a character in “Dragon Ball: The Saiyans”, as played by Redred33mer

Age: 17
Weight:197 lbs.

Power Level: 35,000

Special Techniques:

Valkyom Cannon: A powerful beam released from one hand, where the off hand braces the firing arm at the elbow. A signature of his father's, later taught to Orion.
Saiyan Fists: Energy gathers in the fists of Orion, and extends out from is fists for up to fifteen feet whenever he punches. Punches hit harder, but fighting like this consumes more stamina. It also becomes a bit easier for Orion to attack faster this way, with the concentrated energy pulling his limbs, but doesn't increase his overall movement speed.

Personality: There are three big things about Orion's personality. He can be critical, he doesn't want anything to do with power levels and he likes to think. Orion's ability to think critically is what makes him a valuable asset to his structural engineering firm, and he has a general reluctance to fighting due to a deeply rooted belief that any meaningful fighting, which is to say that any fighting with purpose, almost always leads to destruction. And Orion doesn't like the strain meaningful fighting puts on everyone else: close ones, bystanders, sometimes everyone, if it's war like his father has engaged in. In a way, there is so naivete associated with this, but Orion doesn't seem to care. As long as he's awake, Orion tries to keep his mind occupied. His uncanny ability to focus on something is both a strength and a flaw, as he can be stubborn about seemingly insignificant things, but also very observant and studious.

Biography: Orion is the son of the famous general Kaporu. Kaporu has served the current king for nearly three decades, firmly entrenched in service to the royal family. For stretches of months at a time, Kopura has been deployed to different facilities and sometimes different frontlines to manage and develop the Saiyan army, if not to fight for it. Because of this, Orion has had to learn many things from tutors and other hired scholars, even how to fight. But, Orion had a disdain for fighting, because he saw how it took his father away from him, and how it affected his mother, Negita.

After a few trainers to the general's son quit for Orion refusing to train, he hired someone who would force him to. And while that did make Orion train, if only half heartedly, it cemented his beliefs that fighting not only costs more than it's worth, but brings out the worst in people.

This distaste for fighting manifested itself in a few ways. Orion would sometimes hide when his trainer came came to do their job. When he was eventually found and forced to fight anyways, he started running away from home. Eventually, this trainer quit as well, and when Kopura made time to train his son himself, he didn't have the heart to keep hitting his own son outrightly. Later in life, in inappropriate settings such as dinner with nobles, Orion would express his disdain for the perpetual conflict Saiyans seem to find themselves in. One time, amongst the royal family, Kopura begged forgiveness from the King and the heir for his son's misspeaking. It's strained Orion's relations amongst the nobility to nearly not having any relationship with any nobility outside his family at all. Now, Kopura only brings his son to events when he absolutely has to.

As Orion grew up, he was able to get his mother to make his father agree to let him study as an engineer and architect. However, he studies as a structural engineer and architect in the city over from the capitol, getting away from the affairs of nobility and being able to enjoy his interests. He's been able to interact with many other walks of life other than sons and daughters of nobles and warriors who seemed to be unable to stop themselves from remarking on Orion's lack of fighting spirit. And he much prefers it, as there seems to be a lack of expectation for what Orion should do with his life. For Orion, it's much more fulfilling, because he feels he's earned his place in society rather than handed one by birthright.

Now, as Orion nears the age of adulthood on Valkyom, he manages to spend most of his time away from home. Having dinner with friends and colleagues he's interned with. His father barely speaks to Orion anymore, mostly only when there's an event the family has to make a showing to. Negita has tried to explain her husband's distaste for Orion's chosen path, how in all Saiyan society, especially among nobility, sons often took up the father's mantle and roll in things, and that since childhood, Kopura has felt remiss with Orion's resistance. It's almost an irreparable disappointment, if Orion still wasn't stronger than most Saiyans, even if not by great margins.

A picture of Orion's father fairly well captures Orion's physique, though Orion has no facial hair and isn't as muscular. Neither's auras are red, and Orion's hair is black. Their eyes are also dark like Saiyans' should be.

So begins...

Orion's Story

Orion woke late with a big yawn. A familiar honking made his eyes widen; he looked at the time projected on the screen in his room. He had woken up fifteen minutes after his alarm started going off, which wasn't terrible, but he liked having a full hour to get ready before leaving for work. Grumbling to himself, Orion pushed himself at bed, still groggy from waking up. Maybe it wasn't a great decision to stay up playing Galactic Statecraft for the third night in a row, but Orion knew he'd find a way through the day on five hours of sleep.

The young Saiyan dragged himself through the shower, of which he spent a little too long in. When he got out, looking at the clock he realized he only had fifteen minutes to get dressed and eat. After putting his pants and boots on, he walked out of his bedroom and on to the kitchen, where his mother was watching the news in the adjacent living room.

"You just got down? I thought you might have left early again," Orion's mother, Negita, asked him.

"Yeah I didn't realize how long I spent in the shower this morning," Orion said, careful not to out himself. Negita got up from the couch she was sitting at, coming over to the island where Orion was making a sandwich, spreading a paste over some bread. The paste was red, and some might recognize it as a nutritional paste that helped ease the strong feelings of hunger typical of Saiyans while delivering concentrated amounts of essential nutrients.

"Your father wanted to talk to you this morning but he had to leave before you got up," Negita told her son.

"Great," Orion replied shortly, with mock enthusiasm.

"He insisted you take transit to work this morning, not fly," Orion's mother started. Orion sighed heavily, not liking the intrusion on his preference for flying.

"He wouldn't say. He just insisted that I make sure you did."

In true Saiyan fashion, Orion fit the whole sandwich in his mouth and looked at his mother for the five seconds it took for him to chew and swallow his food in silence.

"That sounds dumb," Orion conclusively states, turning to take a bag out of the fridge - his lunch he made the night before.

"I'm serious Orion; he doesn't ask you to do much anymore since you've been working at Saiya, it's probably important."

"He thinks everything he says and does is important to everyone all of the time. I don't care," Orion refuted indignantly. "I have to go now, as much as I'd like to stay and talk."

Negita just looked at her son defeated. "Fine, see you when you get home."

Orion exited the front door, looking down the steps to the garden of his home before the street of metallic panel. for a second, he reconsidered flying, but shrugged off his father's demands and powered up to take off. Darting into the sky with his lunchbox in hand, he was on his way to work.

While flying, the young Saiyan closed his eyes. A minute passed, and he could start to feel his flight path dip towards the ground on its own; he was nearly falling asleep.

"Geez, that's bad," Orion spoke to himself. Rubbing his eyes and opening them, he took in his surroundings. The river outside of the city would be a good place to stop for some refreshment. He lowered himself from the sky straight onto the riverbank, dropping to one knee and splashing his face with the cool water.

Floating above the river, Nomiya thought she had a bead on the creature she had been tracking. The bio-scan seemed the right size, but when she got closer and managed to sneak a peak it was a sub-species of the one she was after. It leaped from the water to snatch her into its jaws, but she was able to fly upwards and avoid the bite.

"Not today biggie! I've got even bigger fish to find!"

The creature splashed back into the water and Nomiya flew down to grab her things before flying further up river. And before long, her Scouter detected a new Plasma Density signature up ahead. As she got closer, she was disappointed to see it was another Saiyan. But then again, he was by the river's edge. And that meant...

The Scouter was detecting a bio-scan, larger than before, approaching the Saiyan.

"Heeeee. There you are." She whispered.

She flew down and set her tray down, and then flew over to the Saiyan.

"Hi there! You're about to become lunch!" She called out.

The water exploded, and a mouth of nearly half a dozen tentacles launched forward towards the Saiyan on the river with the intent of wrapping him up and turning him into dinner.

"Ah, ah, aaahhh!!" She yelled as she slammed a kick into the side of the beast to throw it onto its side on shore.

The beast landed hard on its side, kicking and scratching at the air as it fought to right itself.

Meanwhile, Nomiya landed next to the Saiyan.

"Hi there! I'm Nomiya, and I got this! This big beauty is my new research subject!"

The creature got to its feet and unleashed a loud hiss in their direction.

"Oop! Gotta go!"

She jumped and flew towards the creature, dodging a lunge which the creature continued as it opened all tentacles and its beak-like maw with the intent of grabbing the other Saiyan.

"Oops! You might wanna move!" She cried, flying back to try and help out.

Orion looked up as someone was surely calling him. A woman from above, warning him about his impending doom.

"What are you on-" and then water shot from the river in all directions in a chaotic eruption.

Orion jumped back, watching a mess of squishy appendages flail at him. Jumping back again, several shot forward trying to grab him. It was easy to step out of the way of a few, but one grabbed his wrist as he was to slow to react. But the Saiyan from above kicked it to its side on the riverbank.

"Uh, what do you mean, research project?" But the distracted woman pushed on to fight the beast. Orion watched her go forward, letting the beast charge at him again. This time, Orion was more prepared. As the tentacles unfolded to go forward again, Orion lifted his hand and braced his elbow with his off-hand, summoning his energy as quickly as he could. A beam of energy shot from his hand, hitting the beast at the center of its tentacles. The creature flew backwards towards the strange "researcher." With this window of opportunity, Orion flew up into the air, now hovering above the river.

"What a way to start my day," Orion grumbled loudly.

Nomiya had come back to help, but the Saiyan shot a beam at it and sent it flying back towards her.

"... Oops."

The creature slammed into Nomiya as it flew backwards, falling on top of her causing a lot of discomfort as it rolled over.

Muffled beneath the beast... "I'm fowwy my wovewy!" BAM! An explosion of energy beneath it sent the creature skyward, and Nomiya quickly rolled onto her side and flew off to the side. The creature, screaming in pain, began falling. Thinking quickly, Nomiya blasted the ground beneath it which caused it to fly up a few feet and then fall back to the ground, padding its fall and sparing it a potentially crippling impact. The creature landed hard and groaned, its movements sluggish. A sign of being dazed.

Nomiya grabbed her little device and shot it twice with tranquilizer darts, and within moments, the beast went still, breathing evenly.

"Phew! There we go! Sleeping like a baby!"

Nomiya flew to her bag just a little ways down the shore, flying right by the other Saiyan with a quick "Thanks for the help!" as she flew by. Reaching her bag, she put the tiny tranq gun away and grabbed her tray, flying slowly over towards the creature again.

"You're-..." Orion started, about to reply to the woman's thanks, but she simply rushed on by. "Welcome..."

Orion looked down at the fallen beast, watching the display of the other Saiyan's skill. The researcher's undeterred excitement brought concern to Orion. As she finally injected the creature with whatever it was, Orion decided to land beside her to ask her of something.

"Um... are there a lot of those things in this river?" he asked a little bit shyly. "And what are you researching about it?"

The young Saiyan stepped toward the beast, going to lift its tentacles to examine it, looking at its teeth, then at his arm where the creature grabbed him. His forearm was marked with its teeth, but no skin broke.

Nomiya was deep into her examination already by the time the other Saiyan came up to ask her about it.

"Hmm? More? Nah. Too big to gather without conflict in a river this small. As for what I'm researching..."

She suddenly spun and was face to face with him, almost nose to nose, eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.

"Are you interested in studying it too?!" She cried.

Suddenly, she handed him a note pad she'd been carrying. "Hold that, please."

She immediately went to her bag and brought out a small hand-held device which she rushed over to the beast and pressed it to its stomach. Her Scouter began reacting, displaying an image of the inside of the creature.

"Ooohh... I wonder what those glands do!" She said to herself.

"Come over here! Look at this!" She said, continuing to look at the creature while beckoning the Saiyan with her other hand.

"No no, I cant-" Orion started to refuse before having a notepad forced unto him. He watched as she buzzed around, carrying on as if nothing else was happening. "Miss, I-" Orion tried to interrupt, but she was too focused on seeing the anatomy of the creature with her own trinkets. Finally she invited him over to see.

"Miss, I'm sorry," Orion began again, trying to be respectful. "I have to go, I'm going to be late for work over this. Your hands seem full so I'll leave your notepad with your bag."

The young Saiyan turned away, going towards the researcher's bag and putting her notebook on top. Now thoroughly jaunted awake by this encounter with the woman and the beast, Orion began to power up to leave the riverbed and head off. In just a moment, he darted back into the sky, disregarding the woman and her "research" as it seemed a peculiar, unlikely event to have to deal with her or a creature like that again.

Nomiya was deep into scanning the internal organ structure of the beast as the other Saiyan tried to speak to her. But as absorbed in her discoveries as she was, as well as her growing excitement, she didn't process what he said as a rejection of her request for his help.

"Okay. Come closer. I need you to hold this ultrasound device steady for me.............. Hello?"

Nomiya looked back and saw he was gone, flying away towards the city.

"What the-... H-hey! You can't just-... What about this beautiful creature and everything waiting to be discovered about it!?!" She yelled.

Nomiya puffed out her cheeks in disapproval before turning back towards her specimen.

"Fine. It's fine! I can do this myself!" She affirmed as she continued to focus on scanning and documenting the creature's data.

Meanwhile, back at Nomiya's workplace, the Universal Sciences Institute, Nomiya's colleagues were hard at work as she sent the data and information to document the creature and get to work producing warning messages for the inhabitants to stay away from the rivers.

Soaring through the sky, Orion proceeded on his way to his work. Now jaunted awake by the encounter with the river beast, he felt alert as ever. Eventually, he arrived at the city next to him, where towers rose above many buildings like in the capitol, but some of the monstrous structures of commerce, business, and governing known to Valkyom City didn't make themselves known here. Orion proceeded to just outside of downtown, landing himself just outside an office building with a sign over the entrance, "Saiya Structuring."

The young Saiyan walked in and took the stairs up to the second floor of the three story office building. "Mornin'," a male Saiyan greeted, facing a projected hologram building from the work table. The second floor was an open office plan with two rows of desks facing each other and two large rectangular tables where blueprints projected by holograms.

"Just made it," Orion says with a sigh of relief. The office had yet to fill in, as during Orion's study and work here, he usually came in about an hour earlier than the rest of the work force to get things ready and understand more about the field he was in.

"Something wrong?" the other asked Orion, turning from the hologram to face the general's son.

"Well, there was some kind of monster that just burst out of the river between here and Valkyom City when I went to go splash some water on my face to wake myself up," Orion answered, joining his colleague by standing across on the other side of the table.

"Sounds like some real trouble."

"Well, some 'researcher' was looking for it and was there just in time to capture it before I blew it up."

"Hm," the other Saiyan let out. "Well we finally got reports back in from that quake you can take a look at from Gus and Lyel. It's all on the other table, tell me what you see from it."

"Alright." Orion pushed a button on the other table, waiting for the projector to come on. It showed a damaged skyscraper and projected damage and earthquake reports, and now it was Orion's job to run simulations to determine problems with the structure and see what went wrong where, and what support the building didn't have, but also why the building didn't have the necessary support when it was supposed to.

"This is gonna take more than an hour, Mek," he said, as if warning his colleague.

"Then take all day," Mek replied shortly. Orion sighed, knowing this would be a complicated issue that would be hard to piece all of the information together for one person. But in a way, he enjoyed the challenge; it's why he was here.
