No one knows where they came from or how they got here. The town of Ferndale is horrified and sick, and this baffling scene quickly grabs local media attention. It slowly creeps into state news, but it hasn't gone national yet. That is until...
Two meth addicts are shooting up in the woods of Ferndale, and they stumble across two more bodies. Male and female. Just like the first ones, nude and laying next to each other - one of Jane Doe's hands in John Doe's hand. Both had no faces. Both are strangled. The male was mutilated below the waist. The same MO, the same victimology - beautiful blonde woman with green eyes, and a brunette male with brown eyes. Again, no one knows who they are.
The Sheriff calls around to other police departments to see if anyone has gone missing recently. And well - they get names and pictures from the neighboring cities up the 101 freeway. Dozens of them. Photos with men and women that matched the victim profile exactly. Four of them are immediately identified. The two bodies near the Eel River are James Talle, a farmhand from Hydesville. Jane Doe, a waitress named Cassy Bell from Rio Del, which is only ten minutes away. They don't know each other. It's very likely that they've never even crossed paths. These four victims were not even the beginning of this spree. These four were the most perfect, elaborate, and immaculate designs of a serial killer, or killers, deadly passion.
Ever since those four bodies have been discovered, more have popped up around Ferndale. Four more pairings would be found scattered across remote nooks and crannies, hidden in the woods, in the creeks... in places perhaps only a local would know. All victims snatched from towns along the 101 freeway. Always one woman, one man, the same MO the same victimology. Soon the news of these heinous crimes spread nationally, where sensationalism dubbed them the Faceless Murders.
The town of Ferndale has limited resources. It only has one Sheriff and a couple of forest rangers for the tourist areas. It is a place of a little over a thousand people. It has one school, one library, a town hall, and a church. It looks like a quaint little American city - a place where you can retire and live happily. It has its problems as most small towns do, but it has never seen this before. The town is struggling with how to handle this situation, and the case has finally been passed onto the California Bureau of Investigations.
In the CBI, a specialized task-force comprised of an expert medical examiner, crime scene analysts, forensic techs, and criminal profiles are sent to Ferndale. They post up at the Sheriff's office to begin to develop and deliver a psychological analysis of the serial killer, or killers, to put an end to this killing spree. This is where the story begins...
It will be their jobs to analyze the scene, delve deep into the mind of a serial killer, to face realities that are so profoundly disturbing it would shake even the strongest hearts to the core.

I will note something else. I have never, ever run a mystery/crime roleplay before. I am going to try my best to have everything make as much sense as I can. I will be offering people clues and such through OOC communication. However, your character must ask the right questions in RP and pick up all of the necessary clues. I will make all of these rather easy to see because I do want there to be a successful ending! This will be my first time GMing something like this, so there may be little hiccups along the way. But I hope that I can successfully lead a cast of characters to an ending that makes sense. I don't have a degree in crime or anything, but I do have lots of forensics books because I used to want to do this sort of stuff.
I will NOT be opening a Discord Server. The reason is just that I am simply not into a lot of OOC chat that isn't RP-centric. This isn't because I don't like talking to people, it's just because - right now - my emotions are running high and I am kind of not into it right now. I hope that's okay for everyone, as my patience has been worn extremely thin. That saying, I am a very adaptable and approachable GM, and I like to have my players help me direct the story rather than me laying out A B and C. Strong relationships within the CBI are strongly advised, but new faces are always fun. I will be narrating the POV of the serial killer, or killers, but none of this will be of any knowledge to the characters. This is just for dramatic and creepy flare.
Think of Criminal Minds, people. If this goes well, I hope to make another RP like this!
