Introduction
You're what they call a traveler. Once human, you found yourself whisked away through a portal into Dreamworld to become something more than you ever imagined. Here, all things are decided by the universe and the choices you, and those like you, make. Each traveler plays by the same rules but not all are equal. The universe gives power to those that seek it.
Upon your arrival to Dreamworld you experienced a great change. You suddenly became anything you imagined until you were satisfied with your new form. With this change came a new title; the name other travelers would come to know you by. Special strengths and powers blossomed and could be used with ease. In this moment you became uniquely yourself and a part of this universe. You achieved the first level in a long journey to your ultimate form.
You may come and go as you please: terms coined as logging in and logging out. Once you step into the portal time doesn't exist. Along your journeys the universe will test you, making you stronger until you achieve the next level. The only penalty for defeat is to be forced out of the game. If you decide to return, you will do so in your designated spawn. A traveler may set their spawn wherever they decide, by accessing their control panel. A control panel can be used to map your location, message other travelers from great distances, and much more.
While death might not matter in Dreamworld, each choice you make does. As you unlock your true power the magnitude of your choices can shape reality in itself. There is much, MUCH more that could be explained.. but why not find out for yourself?
Have fun.

Nice. Wonder if they have a Skylands around here. β¦ Eh, probably not.
She finds: North - Dream City; West - Wood Forest; South - Wood Forest; East - Mushroom Forest.
"'Mushroom Forest'? Sounds like a wilderness adventure title. I'll check it out."
Stealth Elf heads east.
"Geez, these are some pretty tall mushroom trees! I'd better get my daggers out, just in case some enemies come to attack me."
Stealth Elf equips Elven Sunblades. Stealth Elf takes readied action "Defend".

Opps first time using the footnotes section. Anyway just pointing out that I prefer to go more story-style writing than game-style, so I'll probably only do the game parts when leveling up and gaining experience points etc.

Kryo materialized in his spawn location that he had set up a few days ago, just at Northern border of Dream city. He checked his control panel and made sure he still had all his equipment. He was in his light-weight black leather armor right at the moment but he didn't really like the color scheme so he pulled down the menu and adjusted the color of his armor and the accents through the use of a rainbow color wheel. When he got to the scheme he liked, dark blue armor with black and ice blue accents, he closed his clothing menu.
"Display map." He spoke and a the regional map appeared floating in front of him. He touched the holographic display and scrolled through the map getting ideas for what his next adventure should be. He hadn't explored much, so a lot of the areas still only showed the region name and very few specific locations. He saw that to the North of Dream city was a mountain that he had yet to discover the name of. It was tempting to go there, but from what he knew of these types of games, mountains were normally for more advanced levels and he was still level one. Dream city, however, was huge and it was where he had spent a majority of his time since he started coming here and yet he had still not managed to explore the whole city because it was so vast.
"Hmm, I haven't been over to the East side of the city yet. I might as well go check it out." He said to himself.
"It'll be nice to see what kind of shops they have over there."
He made his way over to the East side of the city after about an hour of walking and it was suddenly becoming clear to him that he should look into whether or not there were mounts available or perhaps vehicles as all this walking was going to be time consuming. Or maybe he could look into teleportation spells or portable gadgets that could do the same thing. He soon found himself in front of a large department store with at least five floors. He went inside to go look at the merchandise and see what was available for level ones like himself.

Right now I conveniently assumed that the exp need to level up to 2 is 50, and the exp needed to level from 2 to 3 is 100. Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong.

She meant, sure, Selene could double as a spear, but when her enemies were this tiny and swift, that would be of little use.
Now, one might be confused about her grumblings, so we're taking a little swim upstream the river of time.
Dawn was surprised at how /right/ this body felt, when compared to the one she had in real life, but didn't stop to question it. She excitedly went through the tutorial, and as a result spawned in whatever starting location the game saw fit. Which was Dream City in this case.
She opened the map to search for quest NPCs, and found one nearby, which she leisurely walked towards, in awe of how realistic her surroundings were. She saw a troubled looking storekeeper, and one look at the map confirmed that this was the NPC in question.
Walking closer towards the old woman, she heard part of her grumblings, "... Stupid rats nibbling at my wares..."
Dawn approached the woman, "Ah, I couldn't help but overhear you just now", she began, "But do you need some help with those rats?"
Dawn stomped her hoof in frustration, which resulted in a squelching sound.

She looked down, and surely, she had just squished a rat to death. She pulled a face at the blood and intestines sticking to her hoof, and was relieved when the remains dissolved into motes...
She shrugged in the end, "What works, works", she muttered to herself, and began stomping at the rats. It wasn't that much better than wacking at them with Selene, but at least it was slightly faster. It took a while for her to get the hang of it, but it paid of in the end.

"Well, now it looks like I gotta go earn a little more coin. I better find a quest." He said as he walked out of the store. He looked at his map again and decided to go to the South East, to the Mushroom forest.
"Mushroom Forest? Sounds like someplace to find some easy enemies and some easy money."
He took out the bike from his inventory and rode it out of the city through the South entrance and then headed to the South East and rode through until the trees gave way to giant, tree-sized mushrooms. He braked and a few yards after the bike finally stopped. He got off the bike and it instantly went back to his inventory. He started walking through keeping his eyes open for any enemies he could attack. He equipped his swords in each hand and they began to glow as his magic flowed into them. The forest was a bit dark, but his glowing eyes seemed to help with that. Suddenly an arrow whizzed by his face and he turned to the direction it came from. There was a small group of what looked like tiny goblins that were shooting at him with primitive bows. He managed to dodge the arrows and went running up at them and sliced at them with his swords. They froze as his blades channeled his ice powers and, while they were frozen, he chopped them to bits.

His experience points went up with the first three that he killed. He then searched the goblins and stole all the gold they had as well as all their arrows. Their armor was worse than his own and he didn't ever bother with shields so he left those for someone else to take. He heard more grumbling in the distance and saw more goblins running through the underbrush right at him. He made short work of them as well.

Kryo stopped after he had killed the last goblin in the area and pulled up his control panel and added the Stat Point to his Cryomancy skill tree. He could now use any level 2 ice spells as well as all the other level 2 perks. He felt a little bit stronger and he went through the second group of goblins to loot any treasure they may have. He grabbed more gold and arrows as well as a few low level healing potions. It was as he was finishing his looting that he saw a small green elf creature with blue hair and a pair of shiny daggers creeping off in the distance. Her stance was clearly defensive and he wondered if there was something bigger out here than just the goblins. He equipped his cloak and his stealth went up by one level making him a little harder to see. He watched the elf's movements to see if there was a boss she was about to fight that he could take on himself after she left. He knew it was a little sneaky, but there was nothing wrong with studying an enemy while someone else attacks to find their weaknesses. That is, if there was an enemy. She may have been as lost in these woods as he was for all he knew.
STRIFE Turn Order: Stealth Elf (Bonus to Init from being prepared), Shrooman 1, Shrooman 2, Shrooman 3
"Welp. Here we go."
Stealth Elf uses COMMAND OPERANDI: BLADE FURY! Stealth Elf charges forward in a tornado of spinning knife blades, damaging the SHROOMEN caught in blast! SHROOMAN 1 takes 25 damage. It is dead. SHROOMAN 2 takes 23 damage. It is dead. SHROOMAN 3 takes 19 damage. It is dead.
Stealth Elf has won the encounter! She gains a total of 24 EXP.
Stealth Elf's NINJA POOL is out of energy. She will have to wait to use her damage-dealing Operandi until it recharges. In the meantime, Stealth Elf's SAINT FOUNTAIN and LIFE WELL are still teeming with power, however.
"Darn. Better be more careful with not wasting powerful attacks on minion enemies in the future."
Stealth Elf spots PC Kryo!
"Um... Hello? Are you one of the new players as well?"
"Yeah, I'm a little bit of a newbie here. I just hit level 2. I thought there might be some sort of boss out here or a side quest at the least, but all I've found so far is a bunch of goblins. But I guess it's good for leveling up and grinding out your skill points." Kryo explained.
This was the first player to actually talk to him since he started. It seemed like the higher levels didn't talk to the noobs that often.
"So why are you out in the forest all by yourself?"
Stealth Elf and Kryo can hear great rumblings coming from nearby. A loud roar pierces their ears.
"... Well, crap. Guess you were right about there being some sort of boss here."
A SHROOMAN COLOSSUS LEVEL 3 attacks!
STRIFE Turn Order: Shrooman Colossus, Kryo, Stealth Elf
SHROOMAN COLOSSUS attacks Stealth Elf with it's greatclub! Stealth Elf manages to dodge out of the way, due to being of the Ninja class and being trained in acrobatics.
"Whoa! That was close."

not sure how well a turn order in fighting situations is going to work in this. It just doesn't feel very realistic that the enemy or player would just stand there waiting to be attacked. Perhaps a fighting system more like Skyrim, or a FPS might be better for a virtual reality type of environment like this.

While the Shrooman colossus's club was still in the ground where Stealth Elf had been, Kryo jumped onto the club and ran up the giant mushroom creature's arm with a sword in each of his hands. When he got to the shoulder, he jumped high into the air above the creature's head, did a somersault and came down jabbing his swords into the creature's neck and slid about half way down its back pumping beams of freezing cold ice magic into the creature. The torso of the creature was now encased in ice as he kicked against his back pulling out the swords and landing on the ground behind the creature.
"That should make things a little easier." Kryo muttered, but he knew it was a higher level so he wasn't sure how much damage had actually been done.

[For thinking things through, you gain Intelligence +1.]
She startled at the game message. It was pretty standard all things considered, but she didn't know she was entirely comfortable with the game having knowledge of what she had only just decided in her own mind. When she thought it through, it wasn't as terrifying as it seemed, since her current body was entirely data, and the sensory input was send directly to her brain, as were her decisions right back to the virtual body.
[For realizing possible problems, you gain Wisdom +1.]
[For thinking things through, you gain Intelligence +1]
No scratch that, it was still pretty terrifying, as were the implications that haunted her mind right now.
[For realizing possible problems, you gain Wisdom +1.]
She shook her head and put it behind her though, despite her initial thoughts of maybe giving up on Dreamworld because of it. But surely, the company creating this place wouldn't abuse this power, and... and... there were no doubt defenses in place to keep hackers from doing the same.
She had been hoping for another message, but her expectations were to be disappointed. Slightly bad at ease due to this silence, she finally reached another area of the city.
[You have discovered Tantalus Plaza, +25 exp.]
She continued walking towards the point of the next few quests, according to her map.
[You have discovered the Dream City Adventurer's Guild, +25 exp.]
She walked towards the guild receptionist on duty, a man who looked like he'd rather be doing anything but this, if his disgruntled look was any indication. As soon as he noticed her though, he sat up straighter, if only slightly.
"What can I do for you, this fine morning, miss...?", the NPC asked Dawn.
'The sarcasm is strong in this one', she thought to herself, as the NPC still looked like he'd rather be doing anything but this.
"I seek to register as an adventurer", she stated, after thinking possible reactions through.
The man eyed her, "Are you sure?", he asked, "You don't look like much."
Dawn rolled her eyes, although she didn't disagree, on account of only being level two.
"Doesn't that mean I could use the advantages the guild offers even more?", she asked rhetorically, "If I join up I can take requests without worrying if they are suitable for my rank or not, or whether the person issuing the quest has had a background check or not, and it will be easier to find a party."
[For doing your homework, you gain Wisdom +1]
The NPC looked at her with a speculative look in his eyes. "You have done your homework", he stated. "That doesn't mean you are qualified to join however". He clasped his hands together, and if he had had glasses, Dawn was sure they'd be glinting in the light right now.
"Firstly you'll need to go through a series of tests"
He rummaged around for a bit, "First, fill in this form. It will allow for a temporarily guild pass to be issued to keep track of your achievements"
Dawn did as she was told, since it all seemed to reasonable. After taking the form back the man soaked it in a certain solution, and channelled magic into it, resulting into a proper looking pass. Dawn read it.

the NPC continued. "First of is basic combat. You will need to kill 10 Shroomen, 6 Impling Archers and 8 Corrupted Treant Bulblings. The first two can be found in Mushroom Forest. The latter can be found in the Wood Forest. The first location can be found south-east of here. The Wood Forest occupies the regions to the south, south-west. And west.
You will also need to reach level 10 to be able to accept the next part of the test."
He smirked, "Happy hunting", and pointed towards the door. "Teleport Gate can be found on the Dream Avenue, south of Tantalus Plaza. Undoubtedly you already know this, but attune to any Gate you come across. It makes your travels a lot easier."
She gave him a slight wave, slightly non-plussed at his personality change.
He waved back mockingly, "Ta Ta, Now get to it."
"I'm going, I'm going", Dawn answered slightly disgruntled.

Curious as to what an Acces Token was, she pressed the itemname on the popup window that had appeared.
[Access Token: This allows a player to designate a single Teleport Gate as a permanent 'Free Destination']
Hmm, that definitely looked useful. Dawn decided to put her other quest on hold for a bit, to finish this quest right away. She didn't have enough Nano Points to be able to afford Teleport Gate travel at this point either way, so it would be a long walk back without that Free Destination.
After that she decided to close all the windows and opened the Perks Window to see what was available to her. She saw that a lot of Perks were greyed out. Some she hadn't met the level or stat requirements of, others took more Perk Points to unlock than she currently had.
She decided to filter the list to see what was available to her.

Passive Buff: Movement speed +20%
[Temper Tantrum - Basic]

Active Skill: Has a 30% chance to Stun targets of the same level within a 4 meter radius.
Skill Activation: Instant - Skill Duration: 5 seconds - Skill Cooldown: 90 seconds.
Dawn dismissed 'Forest Roots' for now, seeing how she did not need said skills yet. That would likely change with the next instalment of the Adventurer's quest, but she needed to be level 10 for that anyway, which means she'd have two more Perk Points at that time.
'Wind Walker' had the potential to be useful, but she didn't actually need that right now. That left her to choose between 'Temper Tantrum' and 'Slayer Sense'. She had wanted to dismiss the first on principle, but decided to withhold judgment, as she realized just how useful that stun ability would be against small, speedy opponents like the rats earlier.
'Slayer Sense' would help her a lot in her current quest, seeing how both Corrupted Treant Bulblings and Impling archers would fall under it's domain, making tracking them down a lot easier.
After a lot of deliberation she decided to choose 'Temper Tantrum'.
She walked back to Tantalus Plaza, and made to go east this time, hoping there was a Gate in each of the cardinal directions. She didn't know if the Teleport Gate on Dream Avenue counted as the central or southern Teleport Gate if her hunch was correct. But she would see. Mapping the city, even if their was no teleport gate in that direction was better than standing around doing nothing either way.

Stealth Elf spend 10 NP to perform COMBAT OPERANDI: POISON SPORES. A cone of poisonous gas sprays from Stealth Elf's outstretched hands, dealing 2 damage to the SHROOMAN BEHEMOTH.
CURRENT HEALTH FOR SHROOMAN BEHEMOTH: 48/60
"Dangit! It didn't do the consecutive damage. And I can't risk a slashing attack or else I might break the ice casing!"
SHROOMAN COLOSSUS cannot act, as it is trapped by PC KRYO's ice.
"I don't think poison is going to do much good on this thing." Kryo stated as the creature struggled against the ice encasing its torso. He pulled up his control panel and looked at the list of spells he was able to use to see if he had anything that was effective against plant life. He saw a spell that looked like it would do some damage.
Kryo tapped into his manna and used a spell called "razor flake". He raised his hands and a grey cloud appeared above the colossus before a storm of icy shards fell from the cloud. The razor sharp flakes sliced into the monster's flesh doing a lot of damage. He looked at the HP meter.

"Sweet, at this rate it'll be dead soon."
Stealth Elf spends 5 LP to perform COMMAND OPERANDI: STEALTHIER DECOY. She disappears, and an illusion takes her place. The SHROOMAN COLOSSUS has been fooled by her trick! It manages to break out of PC KRYO's ice and attack the decoy, upon which Stealth Elf spends another 10 LP to perform COMMAND OPERANDI: EXPLOSIVE DECOY! When the decoy is hit, it explodes, dealing 8 Damage to SHROOMAN COLOSSUS! Stealth Elf reappears.
SC HP: 17/60
"Alright! It took the bait! It's a bit stunned, Kryo, so do your attack now!"

The creature fell forward and collapsed dead on the ground in front of the two of them.

Of course Kryo's numbers would be lower than Stealth Elf's as he was a level higher. He looked at the creature then up to the elf.
"So, you want first loot? I doubt it has anything that would be all that useful to me."
Stealth Elf has also gained a level! +10 to all Ability Pools. +2 to Damage with Ninja Pool abilities.
Stealth Elf loots the SHROOMAN COLOSSUS. She finds: 50 DC (Dream Coins), 1 RING OF PROTECTION, 1 WAND OF ICE BOLT, 2 POTIONS OF HEALING, 1 POTION OF INVISIBILITY.
"Alright! I'll take the coins and potions. You can have the ring, because I can dodge most attacks pretty well, and the wand. I can't use it, but you seem to be a wizard guy, so I bet you could use it."
"Where should we go next?" He asked. He was hoping to find a quest soon, so far there wasn't a lot turning up or maybe he was just looking in the wrong places. He also found it odd that only three people had logged on given all the hype in the real world about dreamworld. Maybe it was a different server. He put it all out of his mind and focused on the world in front of him.

It had taken Dawn a while, but she managed to attune to 4 out of 5 teleport gates, on top of getting a nice amount of experience points for continually entering new areas, gaining her a few levels. Aside from the teleport gate on Dream Avenue, she had found the other three teleport gates in the northwest, east and southwest districts of the city. The last gate had remained elusive though.
Questioning NPCs didn't help much in that regard, with standard answer from them being something along the lines of 'There is a fifth teleport gate?'
In the end she resorted to using Sky Dash (something she should have done at the start, had she been smart about it). Even the AI governing such things was making fun of it.
[For < finally > making use of an < obvious > strategic advantage, Wisdom +1]

Dawn had realised early on that it was only her pride, stubborness and spite that kept her from finishing the Teleport Gate Quest at some later date. She didn't care. It had become personal to her for reasons even she could not understand.
In the end it took her another four hours to even find a hint to the entrance to this so-called lower layer.

She was soooo through with this quest though, so she simply attuned to the Teleport Gate. which was near said entrance and turned to leave again, while going through the pop-ups.

She also decided to use her available perk point to get the Slayer Sense - Basic perk at that point. As soon as she did that something seemed to ping at the edge of her senses, but it ended as she kept walking back to the Dream Avenue Teleport Gate to register the Access Token.
She still kept her distributable statpoints in reserve though. She'd see about that later.
