Introduction

Synopsis

The Country of Tsuchimei is cut off from the rest of the world by a vast mountain range and plays host to humans, demons and spirits. While the demons and spirits are content to keep to themselves, only pestering the odd human every now and then, the human species is constantly at war, fighting for control of the land. Several villages play host to Warlords and their clans all vying for power, each seeking to take the title of Daimyo and unite the land under their banner. However, the position of Daimyo is a precarious one, few people last  more than a year or so before they are unseated by a rival warlord. The bloody civil war rages on with no end in sight, meanwhile the supernatural entities of Tsuchimei grow tired of the era of human dominance and began to plot their own rise to power. Take your place and shape the history of this world! Save the country, conquer it, or destroy it!

 

Rundown

So that’s the skinny. A civil war is raging on and you can carry it on, end it, or ignore it and do your own thing. We’re rather open minded and willing to let people pitch and run with their ideas here. If you want to play the current Daimyo, go for it. Want to make a two rival ninja clans and fight for dominance? Have at it. Want to play a demon out to destroy all of humanity? Have fun.

 

Races

Any race is allowed so long as it abides by the power structure.

 

Power Structure.

There are three types of power classifications: 1) Elementals 2) Weapon Summoning 3)Special Cases

Powers in the world of OBTS are a slight deviation from your typical ‘elemental-based’ powers. They do all originate from an element in a way, but they are more specific in other ways- for example, within the country of Tsuchimei there are different factions of earth-based power, as well as combinations between two elements (for example, the shirokuro glass ability is a fusion of earth and fire).

In addition to the elemental powers, there are powers known as ‘special cases,’ which tend to crop up in unexpected areas and have little to do with elements.

In this universe, power runs on energy. Two positives result in a straightforward element (+Fire and +Fire=++Fire A Fire Elemental).  Two positives of two different elements results in a new element (for example, +Earth and +Water = ++Wood).

A negative and a positive of the same element result in neutrality, for example a -+Fire is just a normal person  with a dominant and recessive trait for fire. However, even a normal person can summon a weapon, with the right spiritual capacity.(See Summoning below.)

Double negatives are rare, and are theorized to be the result of special cases. Some, like the Shirokuro (-fire –earth) have branched off to become clans of their own. Occasionally a special case will pop up in a village where elemental powers aren’t common at all.

Go crazy with the elementals, but special cases require approval. Here are some of the in-universe special cases. Keep in mind that those with more than two energy affiliations are never completely human. Humans never have more than two (positive or negative) energies unless there is demon blood in them somewhere along the line, even if it’s very far back.

Shirokuro: Mirror manipulation (-Fire –Earth)

Akagane: Mind-reading (-fire –water)

Kozuka’s power: reversal and manipulation of all other powers (-earth –fire –water)

Honemei’s power: physical ability to change the form of whatever he touches (+fire +earth +water +wind)

Kin’s power: solid shadow manipulation (+fire –wind)

You can kinda see what I’m getting at.

 

Healing: Technically anyone can heal, but they can only heal someone who’s energy signature matches theirs- elements nonexclusive. Basically, anyone with two positives can heal a double positive, and same goes for double negatives, regardless of their native elements. However, healing when done wrong causes necrosis, especially when done by the wrong energy signature, so it isn’t advised that you attempt it unless it’s your specialty.

 

Summoning: Weapon Summoning is extremely simple: anyone has the capability of manifesting a weapon and calling it wherever they may be. if you have neutral energy, you still qualify for the ability to summon a weapon, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good one. Ultimately, it depends on your character. Weapons can be anything and it’s possibly for them to grow into different weapons overtime, but essentially they don’t change unless the person does- a weapon is a physical manifestation of your soul.
