~History: Demetra grew up in a rough home. Her father was a drunk and her mother was constantly abused by her father, especially when she attempted to protect Demetra and her older sister, Danae, who was two years her senior. Her only solace was when it rained outside. She would often be found sitting out on the front porch of her little, beaten up old house, playing one of the various instruments she had bought for herself. Either that or she would sit in the room she shared with her sister, and stare out the window, watching the rain drip down the only window in the room.
After a severe beating from her father when Demetra was eight that landed her in coma for three weeks, Demetra returned home to a startling realization. She began to hear odd things; both during the day and the night, and slowly apparitions began to appear before her. She went into a full-scale panic attack from fear and the State placed her in a mental institute for one month, paying fully for the cost with tax-payers money due to her family’s money situation, and then was cleared to be sent home. The apparitions continued, though, but she had grown accustomed to them and even strived to help what she now knew was the dead.
Both she, her sister, and her mother knew the only way for Danae and Demmy to escape their father was to go to college, but with their father constantly swindling money on gambling, liquor, drugs, and other useless items, money was far too tight to send them to college without taking out more student loans than they would be able to pay back. They both took on two part-time jobs to help pay the bills and to save up for college. However, both girls also worked hard throughout high school, and Danae graduated with a 4.0GPA and as President of Student Council, along with Football Cheer Captain and Girls Track Captain. Demmy worked just as hard, but was in far more activities than her sister, and she earned a far better scholarship than she did. She received a full scholarship to any college of her choosing across the country, while her sister received a full scholarship for colleges only in a certain region. Demmy graduated with a 4.0 GPA as Tennis, Basketball, and Soccer Captain of the girl’s teams, along with honoring in both Band and Choir and earning several different awards for her various artistic abilities.
She was forced to hide her medals and awards from her father in fear of him selling them for drug money, and as soon as she graduated, she packed her things and left, her mother moving to be near Danae, for she finally filed for a divorce from their father. Soon after, her father was killed in a bar fight after he became drunk and started something with a group of men one commonly wouldn’t try to upset.
While Demetra was away at college, her mother and sister were in a severe car accident that landed them in the hospital, and after three days of them being there, her mother died. Two days later, her sister followed her mother. There is both an upside and a downside to this; they were dead, of course, but Demmy could still see them. And she was alone in the world. She helped them cross, but after that, she really didn’t want to stay at the community college she was in. She decided to transfer and still retained her full scholarship due to her circumstances, and she chose a 4-year-college in upper state New York. She plans on majoring with a musical and teaching degree, and minoring with a creative writing and artist’s degree.
