Vynnessia had not exactly been asleep for eons. While she had catnapped where she could, she had been guiding the life back from the tiniest of creatures, to the elephants, to mankind. Too weak to make her presence known, she had just lent a guiding hand where it was needed and occasionally birthed a new creature when they were needed as well.. and retreated back to her place beneath a hill until it was finally time for the large plants. Then she could sleep in her tree atop the hill next to the lake. Over time, her tree was only one of many in a thick, lush forest that hid her from the slumbering Death. Or at least so she thought.

The birth of mankind was downright exhausting, so once her baby was strong enough to toddle around the world on its own, she slept for a few thousand years to let them do what they might. When she awoke, man had spread over the continent and she stretched and the earth trembled and the birds flew from the branches of her home. Still, though, perhaps she had hidden a bit too well, because she was alone. She sighed and looked down to her bulging belly. It was a bit of a mishmash of leftover parts, but would undoubtedly be a lovely creature all the same.

When it finally sprang forth from the bark of her tree, the creature was a smallish humanoid with the wings of both a butterfly and a dragonfly at once. She had eyes that glowed like fireflies, and a mouth full of teeth that would have made any mountain lion jealous. But her newest child knew not her place, so like any mother, she patiently explained while the creature's power grew until it too knew the forest and the earth almost as well as she did. Then she sent the creature out into the world with a small stash of magical seeds to grow her a new home near each of the human settlements in the area. The trees grew faster than any should, and within a year's time she had several new homes, so she began to reveal herself, staying close to her winged creature who brought people to see the goddess of the earth, Vynnessia.

Each village or settlement would receive the same speech from the winged creature as she gestured to the tree that looked almost like a woman. "Vynnessia wants you to flourish and be at peace with all those that believe in her teachings of living in harmony with the land. She wants to help you have abundant crops and many children because we are all her children and she loves us, every one." And at the end of the speech, a little tremor would shake the earth beneath the assembled crowd's feet and shake apples off the branches of the goddess' tree.
