Boston

BASICS
Name:Thomas Knight - Not that anyone knows it.
Nickname: Boston (The nickname Charlie gave him) - which is the only way he'll introduce himself to strangers, or anyone anymore for that matter.
Age: Twenty-Five
Gender: He pisses standing up.
Sexuality: Straighter than a straight guy in straightsville
Race: A complete mutt
Nationality: American

APPEARANCE
Eyes: Slate grey with speckles of blue.
Hair: Shaggy chocolate brown.
Height: Six feet...on a good day.
Weight: Roughly 180 lbs.
Skin Tone: Naturally tan
Build: Relatively tall, broad shoulders, long limbs, and calloused features.
Body Markings: The more noticeable markings being the scar he has that can be seen cutting through the left side of his bottom lip, and the burn mark on the right side of his neck, shoulder and forearm. A not so noticeable scar is the large, jagged, and puckered mark between his shoulder blades.
Voice: Deep, slightly accented, and smooth but with an almost husky sound to it.
Description: Just brushing six feet, tone and muscled with a head of untamed shaggy brown hair. Striking almost icy grey blue eyes coupled with bags from lack of sleep contrast against his naturally tan skin. He has a posture that gives off the aura of effortless confidence while his eyes tell a different story of feigned indifference and defensive nature. Some form of stubble is almost constantly adorning his face giving him a more rugged appearance and on the rare occasion he smiles, you'll see a surprisingly clean set of pearly whites and dimples.

MENTALITY
Quirks: He's a chronic lip biter, and has the tendency to run his hand through his hair when he's nervous, thinking, or whenever he damn feels like it. As with practically any Bostonian, he has the fun accent where he has issue's pronouncing the letter 'R' when he's not thinking about it or when he's stressed. Occasionally you might see him reach into his shirt and toy with what appears to be dog tags around his neck, running his thumb over the engravings. Unknowingly, he talks in his sleep - when and if he sleeps that is.
Fears:
  • Being alone -- No matter how much he seems to dislike you; he won't push you away on purpose if only for this very reason.
  • Being vulnerable...
  • Burning alive
Likes:
  • Rain -- the closest he can get to snow I suppose.
  • Cigarettes -- A relaxing, yet increasingly difficult habit to maintain.
  • Reading -- His mother's books.
  • Tinkering - using his hands to create or fix something makes him feel useful and at the same time calms him down - however it also often results in him staying up late and subsequent lack of sleep.
  • Running|Swimming|Overall being active -- Need to be in shape if you want to survive in this fucking wasteland
  • Music - anything to dispel the silence
Dislikes:
  • Lies & Liars -- He may be an arrogant asshole at times, but he'll gladly tell you the blunt truth to your face.
  • Being dirty - he'll shower any chance he gets.
  • Getting sick - besides feeling like shit, he hates when something stupid such as having to stop and vomit slows him down and the group down. Not to mention, it's how his family died.
  • Nightmares - particularly ones about burning alive.
  • Silence - it can get eerie and just makes him uncomfortable at times.
  • Needy, 'can't take care of themselves', complain-y people -- Oh. So. Annoying.
Personality:In a few words; one of those aloof, sarcastic, cryptic yet charismatic and occasionally goofy kind of characters. He's an enigmatic, seeming to think sometimes, more than he speaks as he prefers to observe, and not get to tangled into things; a trait he's acquired to help him not to get caught off guard. -- A lot can be learned from reading his body language and facial expressions. Something he hates is how his eyes always seem to give him away. He's passive aggressive at times, preferring to mess with people’s heads rather than get physical; As far as he's concerned, any idiotic brute can lose his temper and throw a punch. He's extremely stubborn, to the point of sheer stupidity sometimes; and often "bites his nose to spite his face" as some might say.

Don't get me wrong though; Boston's not all bad. When he does lighten up; he's s goof, and a sarcastic one at that. Making side comments, and cracks at his friends just to get amusing reactions out of them. As long as nothing has pissed him off recently, he should be in a pretty good mood most the time. He tends to act like typical protective older brother one you've you can be trusted, he will be unfalteringly loyal. Overall, it just takes time to figure him out, as well as getting him to trust you -- Once you do that, he's a great guy and great friend to have by your side or watching your back. On the opposite side of the coin, once your on his bad side -- it takes quite a lot to get off of it. The most common way make him not like you -- unless he doesn’t like you 'just because'; which can happen-- is to not be upfront about shit. He much prefers someone to grow a pair of balls and say shit to his face to the latter of people being fucking sneaks, talking behind people’s backs, or just being afraid to say what you think. In the words of Boston -- "Grow a pair."

EQUIPMENT
Clothing: Dark colored jeans, plain ol' t-shirts, and a leather military bomber jacket.
Carried Items: One small, folded, and worn out family photo, & one equally small, folded, worn out, and scribbled on piece of paper. -- Both of which he keeps securely in his wallet. A backpack with his personal belongings inside. A Boston Red Sox baseball cap and aviators he found that help protect him from the sun. Charlie's dog tags.
Main Weapon: Anything he can have on his person at all times -- A simple handgun tucked away in the back of his jeans; an army knife. Though, being practical; to preserve ammo he'll make use of any and all objects around at the time.

COMBATIVENESS
Skills:
  • Endurance: Or perhaps more accurately, being to stubborn to give in to anything such as fatigue, injury, or lack of sleep, ect. His pain tolerance is naturally pretty high perhaps because of growing up in such an environment. Stubbornness aside he can withstand a lot and keep on trucking until he's finished with whatever he had set out to do.
  • Resourceful: Boston has learned to make due with what he has in a sometimes ingenious manner. He seems to have an eye for spotting that stray battery, or roll of duct tape left behind. Things that wouldn't normally catch one's eye unless you were looking for them. Coupled with his observation skills is his profound ability to use his hands. With what may look like junk to some, Boston has a knack for making it into something useful be it a weapon or a tool and so on.
  • Strategist: In a scuffle or a full blown shoot out with bandits, Boston can think quick on his feet as well as move quick on them to. The group he was in before this one had an old military man in it that cultivated Boston's potential in many areas. In particular the man taught him how to fight, when to fight, and when to retreat. However his mentor was a bit more by the book compared to Boston's sometimes risky but just unpredictable and ballsy enough to work ideas.

Weaknesses:
  • Trust Issues: As a result Boston is the best team player, at least not yet with this new group of people. He's reluctant to rely on anyone but himself and the phrase 'if you want something done right, do it yourself' definitely matches his feelings on the matter.
  • Patience: It is simply something he lacks.
  • Deafness:Boston is deaf in his left ear and it puts him at a slight disadvantage but his sense of surroundings usually makes up for it.

HISTORY
Marital Status: Single
Family: Charlie - the man that after his family; while trying to survive in the underground; all got sick and over a period of a few months and died took him in. Charlie was an old military vet that taught Boston everything he now knows and uses to survive. -- Deceased.
History: Boston was around five when the shit hit the fan. Not quite old enough to really remember what life was like before it all happened, but just old enough to have photos of the good times and vague memories of snow. The dry spells struck but being on the coast, it didn't hit them as hard at first as some other areas of the country and Boston's parents weren't to worried. They saw things on the news but were in a constant state of denial as they tried to continue living life the way they were used to, as best they could. Then the power went out. It wasn't long after that when the sun really started to get cooking good ol' planet earth. Finally, his parents followed suit with some of their neighbors and close by relatives and made the move to the underground. They survived for a while with hopes that things just might go back to normal and eventually as bandits came into the picture groups began to travel in hopes of avoiding them or even just in hopes of finding a safe place where people were living happily in some sort of oasis. His family's group wanted to stay where they were moving only when they needed to find a spot with better resources. Boston, all things considered, handle the situation fairly well, what with having to grow up pretty fast and forgo his childhood along with many others.

Then when he was around ten, something similar to the flu struck his family's little camp. First dad got sick, coughing, wheezing, aches, and eventually vomiting. It got to the point where he couldn't get out of his cot and they were stuck in a place with little resources. Grossed out by it all, Boston stayed away from him like the plague afraid to get sick - and with good reason. Not long after mom got sick, followed by Uncle Mike, Aunt Janet, and Cousin Kelly. Sometime after the vomiting symptom Dad got simply never woke up. After that, one by one they fell like flies and at ten years old Boston was somewhat used to death. He was alone for two and half weeks, left to his own devices as he tried to deal with the death of his family and at the same time find food, water, stay warm, and overall keep moving. During those weeks he developed his deep seated fear of the being alone. Boston eventually stumbled upon Charlie and his small group of scavengers camp. He thought he could get the jump on one of the men while they were sleeping, steal some food, the man's knife, and then run. Unfortunately the man he jumped was the leader of the group, an ex military man who had seen the boy coming a mile away. After quite a hassle and some restraining involved, the group convinced young Boston that they weren't bandits and weren't gonna kill him, and that they'd take him in. It was with that group he grew up, developing his skills, his rough around the edges personality, and his tough skin. Up until recently when their group was ambushed by a much larger bandit gang, they were out number and in a last ditch effort to escape Charlie protected Boston from an explosive, losing his life and resulting in Boston's sudden deafness in his left ear. While the rest of the men were captured and to Boston's knowledge killed, he was the only one that escaped, finding a week or so later Wade and his group. He's been with them for the past two months but is still adjusting.

Relations: Wade - He respects the guy, his decisions, and his position as unofficial leader but is anything but fond of the tight reigns and control over everyone he tries hard to maintain. Boston needless to say resist's being controlled as much as he can without getting himself kicked out of the group, often going out of his way to take a shortcut and test the waters with Wade's patience within some kind of reason.
Kitty - She's to delicate, to fragile, to needy, and to emotional. She gets attached to things that can easily be dead the next day setting herself up to get hurt. She's like a lamb content among wolves. He's convinced that he or someone else will have to save her seemingly useless ass in the case of a run in with bandits. At least she's nice to look at..
Cora - She's quiet sometimes, to quiet. Boston doesn't like how she's constantly looking around, or rarely takes her hand off of the hilt of her knife. It puts Boston on edge but at least he knows she's alert and ready to act, also the savage look in her eye at least tells him that she can hold her own in a fight.
Yuuta - While he seems to be clever and intelligent, Boston also thinks he's a bit to flighty and needs to grow a pair. Regardless, the guys pretty easy to get along with.
Jessica - Pulling from his very limited knowledge of her, Boston thinks that the bitch is moody..and isn't straightforward enough - he's also not sure what to make of the mind game she's trying to play by making passes at him. Honestly they get under his skin more than he'd like to admit, mostly because he can't figure her motives out. Why can't she just say whatever the hell's she thinking?
Frank - For some reason or another, Boston likes Frank. Not that he'll say so but the guy's cheery attitude is almost refreshing in a way that sort of reminds Boston of his old man.
Rio - She's different, not in any bad way, just different, interesting even. Boston get's along with her just fine when he's in a good mood. As long as she doesn't try to tease or mess with him when he's acting pissy, there shouldn't be any problems. If anything he'll probably say something that'll hurt her feelings and refuse to apologize. Otherwise she's cool to go and have a smoke with.

So begins...
