Introduction
It all started out in 2011 with studies, and eventually debates, on disease-carrying animals and what diseases they manage to pick up. Their goal was to figure out how to determine why there were asymptomatic carriers and what made them so. Immediately, researchers and scientists were hard at work with all sorts of disease carriers' DNA in an attempt to manipulate and create animals that are less likely to be carriers. Scientists had eventually made groundbreaking discoveries in science and medicine no one had ever dreamed happened before. Then the unthinkable happened.
The rabies sample from the DNA of vampire bats had mutated.
Earlier attempts to contain this new infection proved difficult. The infection reached the population by December 2011 and spread like a wildfire, from an epidemic to a pandemic. Those who survived the initial outbreak called it the December Pandemic, and those infected Code 12. Only a few have lived to tell the tale of how it unfolded.
Today, the world has healed. The economy's rising, businesses are doing great. Everyone's living decent lives, made easier with new technology, but with one exception β all this happens at night.
The world has fallen prey to vampirism.
Nor do they have a need for air, or food. Their eyes are still the same,
but an eerily strange circle of white illuminates their former color.
Those infected have rebuilt the world according to their needs, for they
can no longer walk with the cool wind and the sun in their faces. Their
flesh burns at the mere exposure of ultraviolet rays. Those who
wander in the day must come under the shade wearing clothing
that protect their skin, sunglasses to see through the blinding
rays of light all around them, much like coming out of a dark cave
after months. Even then, it can be very unbearable for them. They
can go for days without blood, but if they go on too long without it,
the thirst mutates them into unspeakable creatures. Those mutated
have red eyes, and are distinguishable by their more erratic behavior,
especially around fresh human blood and other vampires. They will not
hesitate to bite.

roles
Names can be changed.
The Doctor [wednesdaysun]
Early thirties.
Chief hematologist of Danvers Pharmaceuticals and a head researcher
in finding a possible blood substitute. He's highly sympathetic to the plight
of the humans, and wants nothing more than to feel the light of day again,
even to the extent that he researches for a possible cure. He refuses his
blood rations and he's starting to feel the effects of blood deprivation
The Researcher [available]
Mid-twenties.
A fellow hematologist and also a researcher. Though finding more solace
in being a vampire and wanting to go through any lengths to stay that way,
she's conflicted by her loyalty to vampires and her close friendship with
Harry, whose sympathies towards humans are something she's aware of.
The Head [available]
Fifties.
The president of Danvers Pharmaceuticals, the world's leading provider of
blood, and a strong believer in vampirism. He previously had a life-threatening
disease that could've killed him at any time, but being turned gave him a second
chance at life; something he would never give up. He has absolutely no remorse over
"farming" humans for blood, and will stop at nothing to keep vampires
"alive" and thriving in the world.
The Soldier [available]
Early twenties.
A young Corporal of the Vampire Army and a firm believer of vampirism. He believes
that he's doing his country a favor by hunting humans down. He enjoys seeing human
lives slip away in front of his eyes, but he hates the disgust that his older brother
Harry shows him when he tells his human hunting tales. He highly respects Harry
and is afraid of disappointing him further, especially after an event between the two
of them established a small emotional rift.
to call their own anymore. See those abandoned houses? That's
where they used to live and that's where they're forced to hide out in
the day, when most of the Vampire Army are away. They're being
hunted and farmed for their blood, and they can do nothing but flee.
They know the urgency and have the greatest need to save the
human race from extinction by creating a cure for vampirism.
They are looking for as much help as they can. Even the very thing
that they're running away from can be of great use to them.
They are as passionate about keeping the strength of the human
spirit alive among those who have survived.

roles
Names can be changed.
The Leader [available]
Mid-twenties.
She's been on the run ever since the pandemic started. She knows
that there are vampires out there who are willing to help the human cause
even if others do not, but she hides this hope outside a strong matriarchal
shell that helps her fellow survivors get going. She's absolutely driven and
determined, even to the point where she seems quite stubborn. She's met
Dr. Carson one night when he'd allowed her and a few other survivors to hide
in his car while the cops were looking for them, and ever since, she's been
trying to find him to get him to help too.
The Ex-Vampire [available]
Mid-thirties.
A former vampire turned human by unbelievable circumstances: an
accidental mishap with the sun, paired with Erica's attempts to put out a
fire she'd seen in the middle of the prairie had some unintended effects.
Now officially cured of vampirism, he lives his life happily, but not without
remembering that it has its dangers. He loves the human race and is more
than willing to give his life for humans. He has a group of humans that he
and Erica set up, and their numbers are slowly growing, although they are
still few.
The Survivor [available]
Teenager.
She's a bit roughed up after a bad encounter with a vampire. She hasn't
been bitten yet, but she has been farmed. How she escaped is beyond Bo,
but he's glad to have her as one of the survivors. She hates vampires to
death, and would rather be farmed to death than to deal with one. She
still has a lot to learn about softening up, however, and there's a chance
she may still bend, but as of now, absolutely not.
The Medic [available]
Mid-twenties.
She's very neutral about the situation with vampires, but that doesn't mean
she doesn't acknowledge how dangerous they are. She could even be
passed off as one, what with her strangely pale looks. In Bo and Erica's group,
she's the resident medic-slash-nurse-slash-guidance-counselor. She'll stare you
down, but she'll treat you right. That's for sure and certain.
