Ender's Game

Ender's Game

0 INK

Battle School...it's cruel, it's insane, and it's designed for eight-year-olds. This is the untold story of the children who went to Battle School before Ender Wiggin. [Based off the book]

1,533 readers have visited Ender's Game since Jacopo created it.

Introduction

Before Ender's time, Battle School had already been built. Kids were already being trained. Kids were already fighting their own wars between the armies, learning everything they could for the final encounter, where they would eradicate the Buggers.

None of them ever got to, because ten years later, Ender arrived.

But even though nobody before Ender achieved anything about the Buggers, their efforts and training didn't go to waste. There was another planet, a planet Earth had never heard of. Falcira. It was populated with a humanoid alien species, more independent than the Buggers and possibly smarter than the humans. The Falcirian's existence was largely kept a secret; only the IF knew about it. Not even the children at Battle School knew of Falcira.

Until the planet became too much of a threat.

This is the untold story of the events before Ender. The story of the children who destroyed Falcira, and who were never heard of again. This is not Ender's Game, yet. This is ours.

The world is set in the future. Humankind is in trouble, having barely survived two conflicts with the Formics- or the Buggers, as they are more commonly known. To humans, they are seen as monsters. Disgusting, defiling, and ugly. In preparation for a third invasion, an international fleet maintains a school in outer space to train future commanders from an early age.

They go to Battle School.

It isn't easy to get into Battle School. You don't choose to go, you are selected. Children are tested from an early age- sometimes as early as three or four. Those with stunning levels of intellect get in. Those with average intelligence are left behind; they aren't needed. At the age of just eight or nine, the chosen ones are put on a shuttle and sent into outer space to attend Battle School.

It is a school for geniuses.

Intelligence isn't all that the International Fleet tests for, however. There's a personality test, too. Children who are selected for Battle School are frightening. They're tested for a certain level of ruthlessness, a willingness to kill. In order to be accepted to Battle School, you have to be cruel.

What happens when these cruel geniuses are sent into outer space and made to attend school together?

The Game is the result.

Battle School has an excellent academics program- children are taught military strategy and history with a level of comprehension far beyond their years, but that isn't the main focus. After all, it is called Battle School. The real competition lies in the game- the game that life at Battle School revolves around.

The rules are simple.

Each army of forty (forty-one if you count the commander) dons flash suits and is armed with laser guns; they face each other in a room with zero gravity, so they must move by bouncing off walls and manipulating momentum in other ways. The laser guns do not kill- when you are shot with one, your flash suit freezes up, immobilizing you. The game ends when one side has rendered the other side's soldiers motionless. The ending ritual of the game occurs when the commander passes through the gate on the other side.

Nobody cares about grades at Battle School. It's all about the game. The scoreboard is always up in the cafeteria, displaying the win-loss records of each army, the individual abilities of each player, and the rank of the armies in general. The armies. The army you're in determines the way you live and how much honor you get. Sometime into their second or third year at Battle School, the kids are assigned to an army for a duration.

Armies

It isn't set in stone that you have to stay in an army. Players are traded all the time by commanders. Players are transferred. The commander of an army, however, is the one who calls the shots on everything. They are the leader...and they're also just children. Commanders have been notorious for going insane, or they can win the hearts of their army. It all depends. You live with your army in a dormitory room, and your commander dictates everything. Don't like it, go tell a teacher.

Armies are typically divided into "toons", or groups of 10. Each army has one commander and 4 toon leaders.

The roleplay will focus on three specific armies:

1. Tiger Army
2. Phoenix Army
3. Dragon Army

As a short introduction to the events at Battle School, Tiger Army has been in the lead on the scoreboard for the last few months. Phoenix Army is in close second, and will do anything to take down their rival. And Dragon Army...oh, Dragon Army. They are at the very bottom. But that doesn't mean that there isn't any talent in Dragon Army...it just means that a certain group of rebellious misfits need to shape up.

Possible Character slots:

Teacher (no more than 2)
Toon leader (no more than 12)
Veteran (2nd or 3rd years at Battle School; you're in an army but you don't have a leading position- unlimited)
Launchie (1st years at Battle School; you're not in an army yet but you'll be assigned to one. I'll consider requests on which army you want to go to, so PM me if you have a preference- unlimited)

I know everyone wants to be a commander, but unfortunately, there are only three spots. You have to prove that your character is strategically minded and has an ability to lead; I decide who gets the slot. Commander hopefuls who didn't make the cut will be requested to be a toon leader instead. The reason I won't create more armies to accommodate more commanders is that it'll get more confusing and the RP will start to suck- focusing on the relationships between three armies, in my opinion, is the best way to make this RP fun. However, I might or might not create a fourth army depending on how many people are interested.

Character Sheet:

Name:
Nickname: (Optional)
Age: no older than 13 or 14, if you're that old, you should have graduated by now. Most first-years are 7 or 8; work your way up from there. Kids regularly become commanders at 11, so unless you want your character to be a slow one, I'd recommend not choosing any age over 11.
Ethnicity: students are recruited from all over the world, but everyone speaks Common- a form of English
Grade level: (How long you've been at Battle School- launchies are in 1st grade, etc)
Appearance: [READ THIS: For your avatar, please edit a photo so it looks like it would be in a Battle School database- look at the avatar of Nathaniel Lester for reference. If you don't know how to edit it/don't have the necessary tools, feel free to send me a PM and I can do it for you. In other words, go ahead and submit your character, but know that the avatar might have to change.]
Personality:
History: No sob stories here; your parents were not murdered by the IF and you are not a magical warrior. Sorry.
Specific Skills:
Army:
Rank in Army: Nobody starts off as a commander. You can be a toon leader or a launchie

Everyone is allowed to have up to 2 characters, if you want.

Roster thus far:

Dragon Army:
Commander: Aidan Spade- Jacopo
Launchie: Travis Morgan- Stellabellum

Phoenix Army:
Commander: Celeste (JT) Justice Tomlinson- Stellabellum
Toon Leader: Melissa (Darky) Klauzer- one-wing

Tiger Army:
Commander: Nathaniel (Britboy) Lester- Jacopo
Toon Leader: Stacker (S) Strovani- RPglover123
Toon Leader: Miller (M) Strovani- RPglover123

Toggle Rules

1. I am the GM. What I say goes. If you play fairly, we'll all be cool with each other. If not, you're out.
2. No godmodding. Obviously.
3. No overpowering. Nobody likes a character who's so much smarter than everyone else that its impossible to beat them in a battle room. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses.
4. At least 2 paragraphs per post. Posts should be fleshed out and contain thought; don't just post for the sake of posting.
5. If anyone even STARTS to resemble a Mary-Sue, I will personally send them to hell.
7. The same applies to Gary-Stus.
8. If you cannot use grammar properly, don't even bother posting. The occasional spelling mistakes and typos are understandable, but seriously, guys...use punctuation okay thx
9. Please post at least once a day, or inform us on the OOC thread if you'll be away for more than 2 days so we're fore-warned.
10. Romance will be allowed...but seriously, we're talking about ten year olds. The most you're going to do is make friendship bracelets and hold hands. Sorry.

"Hey guys." Darky said in a sad voice, and sat down morosely in the corner. Adrian was out flirting with some girl, but Viiktor had been waiting.

"I was getting worried." He said, walking over to the much smaller girl. "You okay?"

"I'm fine." Darky said softly. She hoped Viktor wouldn't notice the punch she had gotten. But on the other hand, why not? It's not like she owed Miller anything.

"That girl you fucked over." Darky said conversationally." She punched me. Butthurt, I guess." At these words, Viktor got angry.

"The Tiger girl? Miller, right?"

"Yeah." Darky replied, slightly bemused, but still yearnig for Skad's forgiveness.

"i'm gonna beat her to hell." Viktor growled and stormed off.

[sorry. This is like the most I can do atm.]

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

I'm sorryyyy for not posting! I'm working on it, I really am. Will school starting back up and tests and new classes and all this crap, I just don't have the time to really write a post. I'll hopefully get one up tomorrow.

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

I won't be able to post for a while, school started and my frigging retarted bio teacher sprung a project AND a lab on me. Sorry/

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

Good. I'm one of those people who doesn't take 'You lose' very well xD Usually that just makes me want to kick some ass.

Ah I know heehe. It's so interesting to watch them argue, but to have that close bond. I'm sure it'll lighten up a little soon enough.

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

Yeah, Tiger-Phoenix is going to win. I hate losing too >.<

And Tiger and Phoenix would be soul mates if they weren't so busy hating each other XD

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

Jacopo wrote:Oh please, Phoenix loves Tiger. They just don't want to admit it.

Ehem. I believe if Phoenix loved Tiger they'd be kissing your smelly little butts. But as you can see, we're only working together because of, oh yes, our GM's choice. hehe. >:]

can we have our teams win this battle??? I hate losing rofl. I mean, I do think it'd be good for Celeste and Darky to have an epic little battle while everything rages on, and I don't care if Celeste loses that, but I think Tiger-Phoenix should win.

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

That's not mean, that's just exerting your authority as a GM :3

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

What's mean is being number one over Phoenix! Well, not it's mean to be better than Tiger. But still!

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

Oh please, Phoenix loves Tiger. They just don't want to admit it.

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

Nah. That's a nice thing to do. ^^ It's mean to team up with a team that has someone who really doesn't want to join you. >:D

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

Mean? Let's talk about mean- how about breaking someone's arm? :P loll

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

well duh. that's why he's being mean =D

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

Yeah, all that is fine. But keep in mind that Skad, for now, hates Darky for what she did to Britboy. It'll take some major plot turns before we see a reconciliation

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

Alright. Thanks. ^^ So like talking and stuff is okay, as long as it isn't too important?

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

Nope, it's fine. Just check with me over PM if you do anything really drastic with Skad

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

okay. ^^ sowwy. And I hope you don't mind how I used Skad.

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

working on that now XD

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

I'll only believe you if you post. =D

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

The exclamation is valid for the entirety of January 1st, not just midnight :P

Re: [OOC] Ender's Game

you too, but you're late by almost 3 hours. ^^
