Embrace The Storm

October 31st 2010 in the small town of Avalon West Virginia, young adults who had just wrapped up their senior year of highschool are spirited away from a halloween party at 3:00am, only to awaken in the dense forest far from the party's location, to discover they had all dreamed similar dreams and are now developing strange powers.

Welcome to Avalon West Virginia

The small US town of Avalon West Virginia exists at the base of the Appalachian mountain range in a secluded valley, smothered by a dense forest of hemlock trees. There exists only two roads out of town, one of them leading to the ski resort atop the nearby mountain proper, the lifeblood of the town. The next nearest town in an hour away by car while breaking speed limits. The small town of 1000 people is what you can only describe as isolated and impoverished, an economy dry spell permeating the town eight seven months out of the year when the ski slopes shut down and the weather becomes too warm for snow to stick. However, it is never warm enough to truly be called warm.

The town's heavy emphasis on Catholicism and the fact that the mayor is also the church's pastor has resulted in the younger generations being heavily oppressed in terms of their enjoyment, but as we all know strict parents simply make sneakier kids. The only approved source of a fun Saturday night is Cosmic Screens, a retro drive in movie theater that occupies most of the older teens and young adult's free time. After catching a few late night horror movies, they tend to head on over to Starlight Diner, a 24/7 classic dining experience. Some of the more socially outcast may prefer the company of a good book at the Avalon Library, or the seclusion of the old hunting cabins on the outskirts of the forest. Of course, even in the off months, ne'er-do-wells are often found playing in the unsupervised ski-resort.

Into The Untamed Forest

The forest surrounding Avalon is densely packed in some areas, and very ancient. It is said that when the town was first founded a law was put into place heavily restricting lumber collection, preserving many of the trees. During the Cherokee migration up the Appalachian trail a large group of native Americans resided close to the town's border for the time, stopping to collect their supplies and bury their dead in a place now known as the mounds just outside of town. Out of respect for the native's culture the town sought and received permission from those members of the tribe that remained to establish a graveyard near by the burial mounds, for in death are all people equal.

Just beyond the copse of trees that divides the town and the resting site, within a grove hidden by massive hemlocks rests an abandoned cabin many young adults use to hide away from the authorities of the town, and it has become a bit of a 'cool hang out'. It is simply known as the abandoned hut. No one alive to this day, nor any records within the library, explain who this hut belongs to.

Dividing the more trafficked parts of the forest from the cave-riddled mountains exists a place known simply Dense Wood, where few dare to tread. Formerly native american land, until the entire local tribe vanished over night. Those who have traveled through it and returned reported extreme colds even in the dead of summer, and the feeling of being stalked.

The Snow Queen's Court

Halloween is an odd time in Avalon. The deeply conservative authorities of the town look down on the holiday and see it as satanic, though they do not stop the young children from partaking in the act of trick or treating. However, the police tend to take a highly tyranical approach to those over the age of 12 out on the streets. Luckily for the young adults of Avalon in the year 2010, a woman by the name of Sarah Winchester's parents had gone out of town to see family, leaving her alone with the house to throw a great costume party, complete with weed and alcohol. Little did they know, that night would change their lives forever.

In one way or another each person at the party, just past 3:00am, found themselves whisked away to a city of ice, ivory, and wood at the base of an impossibly tall tree, ringed by a forest of prismatic trees. Time became meaningless as they were forced to survive and turned into slaves for the grim queen of this cold court, Ephemerality the queen of endless ice and depression. Their purpose? simple, to entertain their queen and thaw her frigid heart.

In this nonsensical dream, the young adults had to make contracts with the elements of the world around them to survive at the cost from their human selves, warping their forms and degrading their minds. Just as they felt the last remnants of their humanity slipping away and could no longer recognize their reflections, the dream ended with a single utterance; "I Don't Need You Anymore."

Inception

As the dream faded the young adults awoke in a clearing lit by an aurora borealis to find their human forms were in tact, and that not even ten minutes had passed. Many questions still remained; how did all of their dreams involve Ephemerality, how did they travel nearly twenty miles in the span of ten minutes, and where are these new powers coming from? To find out, they must proceed... into the Endless White.

If you are interested in joining this game, it will have a more in-depth character creation than usual, as we will be using a tabletop RPG known as changeling: the lost to generate characters. Players are Changelings, crazed half-faerie abominations on the run from a tyranical and abusive true fae. This game will deal with serious topics such as mental health and abusive relationships.

Changelings are constructed by faeries to perform specific tasks and fulfill specific needs for their faerie, and their appearance is warped to mirror this. A changeling created to guard may look like a toy soldier or a fire breathing dragon while a changeling made to kill might look like a werewolf or a faceless hunter. Get creative.
