A simple soul at heart, Ravi is always quite content when he gets to curl up with a hot tea (especially if it comes with honey) by the fireplace, perhaps even with a piece of cake— he's not picky, although he does like strawberry shortcake and roll cakes particularly. Sometimes he'll be seen with a book as well, a mystery or fantasy novel for a bit of escapism, though lately he's taken a shine to sci-fi too. Back home, he used to unwind watching wildlife documentaries or cooking, but during school months, he's adapted by taking on alchemy, or when that gets a little too frustrating, by taking long, winding walks or a quick afternoon nap. While Ravi likes to relax often, he also does his fair share of work. He trudges through his least favorite subjects first, so he can 'reward' himself with the ones he genuinely enjoys, namely history, potion making, and Arithmancy. (He also sets aside time to pursue knowledge in more muggle areas, like linguistics and languages, as well as theoretical physics.) When he studies, he likes to do so in one of the greenhouses not in use, because while he does like the grey, English weather, he feels quite at peace nestled in among all that green.

Perhaps because he is not a man of extravagance, Ravi is very particular about the small enjoyments in his life. When he has his cup of tea, it is brewed only fresh, never with tea bags or, heavens forbid, premade sweet or iced tea. When he takes time to read, it is never a book picked at random, as he does not like to waste time on something he might not end up enjoying. (This might also be the reason Ravi never liked seeing movies much, even in his youth.) And when he studies, it is somewhere he likes being, not holed up in the library, where the air feels much too stagnant and suffocating. He is good, which is to say, talented, at very little. (Dancing, sports, public speaking, and acting are only a few of the many things that lie outside his area of expertise.) That said, he knows where his skills lie and where they don't, and he prefers not to experiment with new things. That includes new people, as he finds the particulars of navigating new relationships somewhat exhausting, and he never has been a preeminent force in communication. It's a given, then, that he rather dislikes group work, especially with the added element of not being in complete control.

Ravi Chang, in his seventh year of school, and still seen as generally unapproachable. It's no secret why— the disapproving gaze, perpetually stoic expression. He always looks a little faraway, mouthing out conversations with himself when he's not in motion, looking straight forward, walking a little too briskly when he is. He gives the impression of one who has no care for idle chatter about the weather, or the latest gossip, the pretentious sort who only wants to converse with a person about the things that capture his interest. And while Ravi has done little to combat the general aura, it couldn't be further from the truth.

Always a little dazed, he may rarely start conversations, but he never fails to speak when spoken. Once engaged in conversation, Ravi is shockingly easy to chat with, as he's always happy to casually discuss the latest state of affairs (he's a religious reader of the gossip column in the school newspaper, even if he rarely has anyone to discuss it with). He does not often speak of his own intellectual pursuits unless they're asked after—although one might like to be aware he's quite capable of going on for hours, often through tangential anecdotes or discussions, even if he otherwise rarely hogs a conversation.

Reaching a certain level of comfort and friendship with the boy does not bring with it any form of perks. If anything, he's more likely to express his grumpier sentiments along with his unshakeable habit of occasional nagging (the source of his nickname). But he can't help his fretful personality, and while his chiding often has his sister rolling her eyes, it's the only expression of concern he can muster, even if he has a tendency to be somewhat hypocritical. For all his posturing about maturity and responsibility, he himself approaches unfavorable activities or events with nothing less than a childish reluctance. In the public eye, a scowl furrows his brow, and the downturned corners of his mouth seem intimidating. Behind closed doors, he whines to the uninterested cat curled up on his lap while flipping through the pages of the latest retrieval from the library.

Ravi is not, perhaps, the easiest friend to make, but he is an easy one to keep. A forgiving and easy to please nature do not often see him cutting ties with others (although he does not fight when others see fit to leave him), and while his protective tendencies can sometimes seem a touch overbearing, his fretting— not constant, by any means— is often more endearing than not. Ravi is optimistic, in a quiet sort of way, in a way his eyes or his wardrobe or his demeanor do not betray.
