Hello everyone, and welcome to my most recent roleplay, seeing that my previous ones has always been major flops. I’m getting really fucking tired of it, so please, if you want to join, stay around for more than one post or I’m going to be really pissed. If you just leave without warning, I’ll probably run after you with a knife or something, so please, remain in your chair, or simply don’t sit down in it, it really ruins the game for everyone else.

Well, with me finally being done bitching, allow me to introduce you to the world of night-shades, hunters and huntresses, magicians and warriors. The world is an uneasy place at the moment, and the tension is rising parallel with the danger of the city known as Kyoto, and the 60 strongest hunters from all of Japan has been gathered in this one city to deal with it.

Nightshades

The correct term is Nightshade, but they are far more commonly known as Youmu. A nightshade is normally seen as an animated object, or as a strange monster. Their form-factor varies and their origin is unknown, though there are countless theories. Messengers from god, messengers from hell, scientific experiments, you name it. Most causes regarding suicide or murder has nightshades somewhere in the picture.

Nightshades comes in ten “levels” that the Nightshade hunters use to decide the threat level of a nightshade. There are friendly ones that are on the hunter’s side, though their numbers are vast comparing them to the real forces the youmu holds.
Level one – A human could have taken it out if it could see it.
Level two – Multiple humans could have taken it out if they could see it.
Level three – One low-ranked nightshade hunter could easily take it out.
Level four – One or multiple low ranked nightshade hunters could easily take it out
Level five – Multiple low-ranked nightshade hunters would have problems taking it out.
Level six – One medium-ranked nightshade hunter would be able to take it out.
Level seven – Multiple medium-ranked nightshade hunters would have problems taking it out.
Level eight – One veteran or multiple high ranked nightshade hunters would be able to take it out. Not allowed for low-ranked hunters to approach.
Level nine – One veteran nightshade hunter would have problems taking it out.
Level ten – Not allowed to approach without allowance from the society. All attack groups must have at least one veteran hunter, preferably three or more.

The Hunter Community

The Nightshade Hunter Community is the organization that ties those who can see Nightshades together and pays them for killing off the demons. There are 260 ranked nightshade hunters. Number 260-161 are the low-ranked hunters. They have the lowest pay-grade, but if you have the right skills, it’s easy to advance up the grades. A standard sector of Japan has ten low-ranked nightshade hunters to take out the small jobs, primarily in groups. Are also often set to clean up after the medium-ranked hunters.

Next are the medium-ranked ones, which are between 160 and 61. Becoming a medium ranked hunter isn’t that hard and can easily be done in a year if the hunter only focuses on his or her hunting. There’s an average of ten medium-ranked nightshade-hunters in each region, and they primarily support the high-ranked hunters in the background, or clean up after them. Like the low-ranked hunters, they primarily work in groups.

The high-ranked hunters are those between 60 and 11. It takes a lot of work to become high-ranked and it takes an average of at least four years to advance from rank 260 to 60, if the hunter works intensively. The high-ranked hunters are the main force in each region of Japan. There’s an average of five high-ranked hunters in each of the ten regions, though they jump in between the regions if they are called in from a neighboring region. No region is allowed to hold the top ten of the high-ranked (11-20) because it would make the region a lot stronger than the rest. High ranked works for the most part alone, though they would work together if the task calls for it.

The last rank achievable is a veteran, which is from 1 to 10. There are one veteran in each region, though they are free to leave their region if they are requested to, however, only to the neighboring ones. The veterans has the most experience out of all the nightshade hunters and normally don’t go after nightshades under level 8. Each veteran has their own fighting technique and weapon, though some might be similar classes.

Death perception



The thing that mainly splits the high-ranked and veterans from the medium and low ranked hunters is something called Death Perception. Death perception is like a secondary class for Nightshade hunters of rank 60 to 1.


Death perception is a special ability the nightshade hunter has that makes it more efficient in combat. The abilities vary from person to person and what the ability is depends on what kind of life the hunter had lived in previous lives. The ability can be anything really, though they never affect the body of the person that uses them. In other words, there are no such thing as “Super-strength” or “Body-transfer”. The ability always lies in a spiritual level and can be either a magical attack, or things that comes visible for the user. The first official nightshade hunter’s Death Perception was to be able to see how to kill anyone. The power would be shown in the form of cuts in the air that if a blade was drawn along it, it would be one slice closer to the person’s death.


Others have magical abilities. Some might summon fire, others manipulate the weather, the possibilities are endless. There are no “energy source” and the death perception ability can be used as much as the warrior would like, though they are normally used as a secondary weapon, as their strength are normally not as high as a normal weapon unless trained.





The Current Situation

At the moment, all veteran and half of the high-ranked nightshade hunters are gathered in Kyoto. There has been a huge increase in terms of Nightshade activity and it has therefor been decided that the area is going to be cleared out completely for any Nightshade over level five. However, the constant stream of Nighshades doesn’t stop at all, no, it has been steadily increasing, and it is now the job of the hunters to find out what is the reason for the sudden increase of activity, and to stop it.

Ahh Robbhus I'm sorry, I went to my mothers house for New Years and with them having just moved in their computer wasn't setup so I wasn't able to PM you nor submit my character. My character is complete though, just need to put on some finishing touches

First, I want to tell you to add at least one image to your character. As it is now, there is only the avatar, and I don
t see that as enough.

How strong a hunter is depends of course. A stealth-based fighter would be doomed in an open area, while an open area fighter would have trouble in locked areas. Circumstances are always relative when judging a hunter's power, but under the absolute ideal circumstances, comparing Nr. 1 with let's say Nr. 15, Nr. 1 would be so superior it'd be done in a second. If you take number 5 and number 1, it would be done in less than half a minute. If you change the circumstances so Nr. 5 is in his/her ideal terrain etc. while number 1 is in his worst, Nr. 5 would be superior, but Nr. 1 would still put up a struggle. Number 10 would most likely lose regardless with the same stances. I hope this answers the first part.

As for rankings:

A person's rank is determined by their strength and experience. You advance in ranks by showing superiority to those above you, or if someone above you dies. If someone dies, everyone after them advance one rank. This means that when you're a low rank, you easily advance in ranks, but it slows down under the way. It is up to those around a person to determine if they deserve to be risen. If there is a struggle between two ranks (With the low one wanting to take the spot above) the most common way to deal with it is having an harvester challenge*. Within the top 10 ranks, it normally takes years between each advance because of the clear split of power level, so harvester challenges are normally not a way to determine the problem, seeing that the power difference is so big. However, it has happened. I hope this answered your question.

*The Harvester Challenge - The harvester challenge is a challenge taking place over a set amount of time (Normally three hours in low ranks, one day in medium ranks, three days in high rank, in veteran, it varies too much) where both parts of the competition are spending the time to slay as many nightshades (Youmu), the winner is determined by the amount of money their slays were worth.

What's the power level of a hunter? Let's say, how powerful is a Rank 1, 10, 20, etc, for comparison. Also, how are ranks determined, and are they absolute? Is a rank 10 absolutely weaker than a rank 9? I mean, it never made sense in many series how rankings are so absolute. When you look at sports most top players are at a similar level and rankings change very frequently depending on performance.

Valeric - It's probably a coding bug. I had the same issue, I'll look over your coding and track down the mistake, though if you actually read the rules, you would know that you must reserve before joining.

EDIT - Valeric, I took a look as well, and yeah, it was gone, all of it. Shame, you'll have to start all over. However, without a reservation, it doesn't matter.
