“I want to believe that people’s hearts can resonate with one another’s. I think when people tie their thoughts together; the bonds that they form with each other are where legends are born. . . . Seeking out the meaning of their births, driven by their unwavering convictions, people learn the strength to protect through the meeting of their hearts. Whether for the sake of themselves or another, people enforce justice, and they learn, awakening their souls. Through this, the name of Fate becomes known, and it is released from its slumber.” -The Goddess Sevda

-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-†-

The world lies upon the periphery of demise. . . . Once a verdant heaven, abundant with life, teeming with evergreen forests and seemingly boundless fields, what remains of it now is but a simple echo of times long since passed. Millennia ago, the world was an Eden, life existed in harmony, there was no war, no corruption, no struggles to survive. . . . Yet, with the passing of time, the Golden Age of existence has become but a legend, now, things are much different. There is much suffering, people starve, there is war, people fight for food, corruption runs abound within the organizations who are suppose to bring order, and those who do not have money endure much torment.

People are crying out, wondering why it is that this has happened, they yearn and pray to the heavens to bless them with a paradise akin to that which is spoken of in their mythos. No matter how people pray and plea though, relief has never come . . . and the masses are losing faith in the words spoken by their Goddess. In the times when the world was ever-producing, and perfect, it was said the Goddess of creation and birth herself walked the surface of the planet, living with her mortal children. She lived alongside her many children, shared with them her powers, the earth’s bountiful harvest. She laughed with them, smiled with them and shared many wonderful moments with those people. This was a time of innocence, where the whole of the world was nothing but a playground, and all sentient life were but as children. . . .

The Goddess, the mother of these many children, watched over them as they grew and played, attributing to them much adoration and love, giving them all of her blessings.

However, as things always go, this paradise and wonderful time would not last. That which is pure shall always become tainted in some manner. . . . Jealousy, envy, the desire for the Goddess’ attention, spite and other such things would come to seed the minds of all the mortal children. The seeds of taint planted, it did not take long for them to germinate into something terrible, something that brought harm unto the Goddess, that darkness blooming in the hearts of those she loves, it would bring about the end of the age of innocence.

Without the pure love of her children, the Goddess found herself weakening and growing frail, unable to successfully give life to the world. She was unable to sustain the paradise as she had for so many eons. As her children fought and squabbled among each other for the attention of their mother, failing to notice her sufferance, the Goddess found herself growing embittered toward them. . . . In pain, and unable to support the world that she had once regarded with much love, she would soon fall into a deep slumber. Her body and soul sealed away deep within the earth, leaving the message that she would awaken again someday, and revitalize the world and once more awaken the paradise of yesteryear.

Since these times, much has changed. Corruption spread like wildfire within the hearts of people, from humans to elves, to all forms of sentient life, no one people were spared from this taint. Life subsists, despite the difficulties of it all, yet the wilderness is an unforgiving place, the distance between places livable is slowly growing wider and further apart and powerful monsters have grown crazed by the conditions of the world.

In towns and cities, those who rule in power are often corrupted, greedy, and are not beyond exploiting the poor citizens of their town. Things are growing worse and worse, while it seems like there are fewer and fewer who are willing to do good. It is in this world that a small group of people shall meet . . . perhaps some of the few left with the want to do good, to better society and life. . . . This is their story, and the chronicle of a tale that is bound to become a fragment of history.

This is the story of Fate’s awakening. . . .

If you exceed the 48 hour cap time without asking for an extension, I will open the character slot back up and allow someone else to take it.

The Pierrot ~ Cináed Rubina de Amore played by Beta Type Jakuri
The daughter of nobility, long before her very birth, her father was murdered. . . . With his death, a threat was made known that all who shared his bloodline would be eliminated from the face of the world. Following this, upon her birth, the Pierrot was passed onto her mother’s sister and her husband, the couple happened to run a small, travelling circus. In order to keep her safe and sound, she was raised as their daughter, and reared as such. As she grew, she took on the role of a Pierrot within the circus and its acts, this happened to be both a literal and figurative phenomenon. For the last eighteen or so years, she has lived as this, as a Pierrot, knowing nothing else. Yet, shortly before her eighteenth birthday, she is brought back to her birth mother, and left to carry out her fate, and to be restored to her place of birthright. Given her place as the daughter of a noble, the Pierrot is engaged to be married upon her actual birthday. To this fate, she is not pleased, yet even for the mother she barely knows; she silently endures this unwanted destiny. Quietly, she feigns an act of happiness, placing a smile upon her lips when she is not at all joyous, as she was raised, the Pierrot is a submissive girl, who puts others before herself, and would rather suffer alone than burden another with her problems. . . .

The Dhampir ~ Rivuldi Chindasvinth Euric played by Abraxas
A long-lived life form, he is half-human and half-vampire. He has lived for a long time, and as such, he has witnessed the horrors of the world and the very worst it has to offer. Yet still, he quietly exists on, often never interfering in the events happening around him, from past experience, he has learned that living is frequently far more peaceful when you only have to worry about yourself, and not about the happenings of others. . . . His existence is a careful one, given his non-human heritage, he bears weaknesses akin to that of his vampire parent, he possess a need to sustain his body upon the blood of humanoids, along with normal food and must be cautious of the sun. While he will not die from the light of the sun, it will make him ill. Naturally, he seems frail and fragile, as he should, the crossed-bloods within his body reject one another and at times makes living difficult, but there are times when he displays abilities on par to that of a full blooded vampire, strength, speed, reflexes, etc. . . . The Dhampir has managed to survive this long due to the fact that he is able to hypnotize the weak minded, and even temporarily alter the memories of said people. His existence is rather idle, and he is a passive person by nature.

The Alchemist ~ Com Mitchell played by Lloyd999
A rather eccentric man, highly-intelligent, well-versed in many subjects and gifted in the practice of alchemy. He is confident in himself and what he can do, and comes off as such, it is not unusual to see him with a smile on his face, or to find him with his nose in a book. Behind his smile, he hides a scarring past, having lost someone dear to him, the Alchemist took up the art and science of alchemy at a young age upon learning of the fabled ‘homunculus.’ His goal in life came to be a desire to create one of these artificial humans in order to revive the person he lost whom was so dear to him. . . . Given his studies, he is quite skilled in magic, solving problems and other such things. He lives in the world, minding his own business while studying all he can as to improve his skills. He can be regarded as arrogant in a sense, loving to go on miniature lectures regarding the many things he knows about alchemy and the many subjects he is versed in, yet still, he hides a bitter side to him that arises on occasion. Deep inside he is asocial, preferring his own company to others, only seeking out one thing from his subsistence; and that is the successful birth of his desired homunculus.

The Chevalier ~ Astrazonica Bronach played by Alpha Type Shurelia
A resolute woman, strong of mind and body, she was born magically blessed and trained from a young age to become the defender of aristocracy. She is strong, stern and aptly gifted as far as battle goes with her magical gifts and her rigid training. At the same time, she was once an idealistic, she possessed a naïve and romanticized view of what her duties would be, as well as what justice was. The Chevalier was a proud woman, happy that her position in life would be what it was, yet when she was assigned her tasks, to be the hand of the law to a ruling family of nobles in an isolated town, she knew not what to expect. She was eager to begin, happy to take on these tasks, and to deal out evenhandedness to those two did wrong. . . . Yet, she was disappointed in what she found awaiting her. Those she was assigned to serve under were naught but corrupted, greedy and pompous nobles who exploited the poor. Gradually, she has become sickened by that which she is expected to do, she is disheartened by the degradation of aristocracy, and coming to form her own sense of what ‘justice’ is. Soon enough, she plans to cut ties to the family she was assigned to serve under, and become a freelance warrior, acting upon her own will and volition.

The Cyborg ~ Paragon played by Bromander Shepard
An unusual thing, regarded as a failed experiment from years past, the Cyborg is something strange. It is an androgynous being, only identified as a gender based upon its body’s physical appearance. Born from the desire of immortality, the Cyborg possesses a steel/metal body, and it is obvious that it is not human; the plating from which it is composed is put together crudely in some areas. Inside though, the Cyborg has the inner workings of a normal human being, a heart, a brain, working organs. . . . It must eat and sleep like a normal person in order to survive. Despite the fact that it has the inner workings of a human, the Cyborg itself does not yet hold emotions. Yet, it does retain the ability to understand these sentiments, and to learn them. Only recently has it awoke, while being prepared for disassembly and disposal, something triggered it to rouse. Possessing basic knowledge of the world and its workings, it set out on its own in order to live, yet still, it cannot live even a remotely normal life thanks to the apathy it has from a lack of understanding regarding feelings. Not good or evil by nature, the Cyborg is a neutral existence that is simply just working to find its place in this world.

The Rogue ~ Nadia Saraphine played by foreverxraining
A spirited young-woman who is bold, brash and known for her mischievous ways. She has lived out the last several years of her life as a wandering around what is left of the habitable world, and she has seen all that has become of Leu Chrysallia, as well as what has become of the people in it. While her early life is something of a mystery, it is believed she was left to live in deplorable conditions and it led her to believing herself a savior of the weak. In her many travels, she has gallantly stood before the corrupted nobility who rules above the majority of common society, dared to steal from them and distribute her gatherings out to those she felt deserve it. The Rogue is a woman who exists by her own rules and sense of time, her life is piloted by her and no one else and she goes about living it as she sees fit. Her bright spirit is an unusual find in the world, as she never seems to let the faults and darkness of the world bring her down, as she seems to be an optimist, and naïve despite her many experiences. In a way, she is living by her own definition of what justice is, because she opposes those she herself deems corrupted in the open and aims to put them in their places.

The idea of this roleplay’s plot is that while there is a very loose one, it is also VERY much open. I’m kind of leaving power in the hands of everyone who joins, we build the plot together, and the roleplay is very character driven. This is meant to be fun and to not be overly restrictive.

1. Use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation please! No txt talk, and about posting length, while I'm not a freak about this, I ask that you please post about a paragraph? ^^;; I am not fond of one liners.

2. No godmodding! It's not fair.

3. I'll ask that you post a minimum of once every five days. If you are unable to post in this amount of time, I'll ask that you notify me via the OOC thread. If you do not post for this amount of time and you give no notification of this, I reserve the right to render your character into an NPC until such a time you return and are able to post.

Nothing personal here, I've just seen WAY too may roleplays die as a result of people going inactive for a while, one character stops acting and stuff, then others get stuck too because they were talking with the inactive character. . . .

When you return, I'll return full control of your character to you.

4. About romance, yeah, that's strongly encouraged here since it's one of the driving points of the roleplay. But, I ask that you keep materials and content clean, even if the roleplay is tagged with 'adult,' I don't want to see smut. . . . Abide by the site rules regarding adult content and all's well.

5. Violence, keep it sane and not horror-movie level, okay?

6. There is no set posting order; just no double posting!

The city of Cellé was abuzz that night. Stirred from its normally quiet and rather mundane existence, the aged city was alive with the markings of a celebration that stretched from entrance to entrance, all throughout the settlement’s entirety. From district to district, from the rich to the poor, all were involved in that night’s festivities. It was an unusual occurrence, a once in a lifetime happening. For the classes to be intermingling so easily, truly, it was a night of nights. And, indeed this one night was considered a very special evening in the eyes of the town’s reigning noble, Duke Auttenberg, for it was the night before his son would be married. And it marked the short time before the young man would ascend from being a simple heir to becoming a ruling noble himself.

So joyous was he, that the Duke announced to the city of Cellé that the eve of his son’s wedding would be a celebration for the whole of the town, for everyone who lived within its confines. Rich or poor, all were invited to take part in the grand occasion to honor their soon to be leader and his fiancé. Truly, it was to be a very special instance. . . . The Duke’s only son would be introduced with his fiancé to the city, and they would spend the rest of the night and the following day celebrating them and their blessed union. That night marked the eve of the marriage between Louis Auttenberg and Cináed de Amore.

As soon as darkness fell upon the city, the lamps were lit upon the sides of the stone streets, and people wandered from their dwellings to take part in the party, to forget their troubles and wash it all away with one joyous night before having to face reality again soon enough. Though the merriment was meant to be an unveiling of Louis and Cináed to the residents of Cellé, for most, it was simply a chance to escape the grim reality at hand—to not be reminded of their dying world. For most, that reason alone was more than enough to encourage them to participate.

So strong enough was that simple reason, that most failed to even question or think about just whom this Cináed de Amore was. It seemed almost as if she had appeared from nowhere. Such a short time ago, her very existence was not even so much as known of, and suddenly she was being revealed to the public as the only heiress to the noble de Amore name and household. Most knew not what to make of this happening, but then, most did not care either. The de Amore clan was a fading name in the world, their influence in matters of aristocracy had dwindled greatly . . . and it was only when Cináed had been announced as the fiancé of the next in line to rule over their town, did people express any interest in her at all. Even then, what interest was shown was minimal. As far as many were concerned, Louis and Cináed were to be nothing more than a couple of corrupted and greedy aristocrats who did not care at all for the people they were meant to lead into prosperity. All nobility seemed this as of late. . . . So, why would these two be at all different?

So, the questionings of Cináed’s origins remained untouched, and few bothered to even give these a passing thought. . . . She was a child with no reputation, a rather ordinary looking lass who seemed frail and fragile, looking as if she were made of porcelain. It seemed likely that she would be like the wives of many ruling nobles and simply be a figure standing in the backdrop, never uttering a single word.

And this was good enough for the citizens of Cellé, once they were informed of the merriment her marriage to Louis would grant them, what reason was there to care for someone who would do nothing for them?

These were the thoughts of the settlement’s many citizens. They cared not for her . . . yet, among the other few families of aristocracy, there were whispers and rumors regarding the child’s existence. Gossip spread about her in the short time she had come to live within the town of Cellé openly, and the families began to wonder of her, yet never dared speak of their true thoughts regarding her too loudly because of her engagement. They all knew better than to question the words of the Duke.

And while these were the happenings and thoughts regarding Cináed, the child herself was a strange one. Aware of the position she was suddenly thrust to in life, being placed into the spotlight without warning; she never seemed to display a reaction against it. Always, there was a look of apathy upon that ordinary face of hers, nothing else. Though the rumors and gossip of her were audible to her ears, as well as the questions, her deep blue eyes never hinted toward her remotely acknowledging some of the terrible things said about her. It seemed she simply lived as she was, mindlessly doing as she was told without a thought.

This is perhaps the reason why it was that she did not show signs of protest to the man she was engaged to. Despite the fact that Duke Auttenberg was throwing a rather impressive celebration the eve of Cináed and Louis’ wedding, there was a terrible truth about the noble’s son. It was a well-known reality that Louis Auttenberg was a lowly womanizer, an unfaithful thing who cared only for a moment’s pleasure. To him, a woman was a disposable item that he could use at his own convenience, and many believed that the only reason he was settling into marriage was so that he may acquire his father’s title and power.

No matter how true this was, the fact remained that Cináed herself was not resisting the marriage, but idly going along with it. And all knew that she was to be making an appearance upon the eve of her wedding with Louis at the manor of the Duke, so that they may be formally introduced to Cellé as husband and wife. So no matter what questions may be had regarding Cináed’s origins, or what rumors may’ve gone around about Louis’ reasons for marrying her, the simple fact remained that they were to be wedded the following morn, the day of Cináed’s eighteenth birthday, and all in the city would be there to witness it. . . .

†–†–†–†–†–†

She had remained still and seated, uttering not a single word the entirety of the carriage ride. Her pallor face remained without expression, reflecting nothing in the way of displeasure or excitement, what it was she even felt was hard to say, or to even speculate. If she were even feeling anything at all. All that was simply to be said, was that Cináed de Amore had been finely dressed to attend the celebration being held in Duke Auttenberg’s manor in the honor of her and his very own son. Unlike days past, the young noble herself looked the part of her lineage. For the first time since her arrival in the city of Cellé did Cináed look as aristocracy.

Dressed as she had been told to, the girl’s form was held in a simple off-white gown, neck adorned with many pearls, her pallor face was stained and painted over with cosmetics, eye shadows and falsely red lip stain. . . . Truly, she did look the part of nobility this way, but it also did not seem to fit her, the unnatural beauty provided to her by the makeup seemed to merely cover up what was really there. It really did nothing but make her appear as if she were trying to be something she did not seem to be.

Cináed had not argued against its application though, for, she believed that all she was being told to do was for the very best. Even if she did not understand all that had occurred in her life in the last some odd weeks, she could only guess that it was what was meant to happen, she believed in all honesty that this was for the greater good. No part of the once-Pierrot could think of a reason otherwise. . . . Why would anyone steer her in a direction that would not be for the betterment of her life, or the lives of others? As far as she had been taught to believe by those she had once thought her mother and father, every decision made for her was one made in her best interest. It was her place to listen and obey, simply that.

Always had she been told that was her place in life, so, it seemed that her soon to be marriage was no exception to this. The woman who was her true mother, Violetta, had gone and helped make the arrangements for all of this. And she was the woman who was now overlooking Cináed’s life, her words were the ones Cináed needed to follow now. Everything she did and said, all she put together for Cináed was for her sake . . . in her best interest. And that’s truly what the young woman believed.

Remaining ever still and silent, Cináed awaited her arrival to the manor of her fiancé’s father, her deep blue eyes cast down to the floor of the carriage. Just outside of the vehicle’s thin walls, the sounds of festivities could be heard, the merriment of the townspeople in their excitement and drunken stupors as they indulged themselves and forgot about reality for but a night. Their economic status in life, the fact that Leu Chrysallia seemed to be tilting upon the edge of disaster, the harsh environment that lay just outside the reaches of Cellé, all of it was forgotten for this one night. Cináed herself had seen the state of the world in her travels with her aunt and uncle as she had been trained as a Pierrot. She knew the fact that life was not an easy thing to sustain.

So, if anything, she was able to understand the fact that the citizens of the city were more interested in losing themselves to indulgences than for the true reason behind the celebration. It was hard to forget reality most of the time unless given something to lose yourself to. The girl herself though? She did not care at all what the people did. What they chose to do that night, it was their business. Her place was simple in all this—travel to the Duke’s manor and allow herself to be shown to the town as Louis’ wife. Let herself become known as Cináed Auttenberg.

That was her duty; it was what she was suppose to do. It was that easy. . . . There was no other reason. For her own sake, that was what she had to do, it was for the best. It had to be for the best; why would Violetta do anything that wasn’t for that reason?

It was then that Cináed’s body was pulled forward, as the horse-drawn carriage came to a slow stop. She made no noise as her form was jerked forward before stilling once more, knowing well what the halt meant. Fully expecting it, the young woman adjusted herself as the door to the carriage opened out to the side, and a hand was held out to her. One hand upon the long skirt of her gown, head slowly turning upward as she stood to her feet, stooping down as to not hit her head, Cináed carefully placed her empty hand into the one held out to her lightly and accepted the aid given to her as she stepped down and out of the carriage.

Upon solid ground once more, Cináed brought her hand back to her side before she gave a well-practiced curtsy to the coachman and gave a soft remark of, “You have my gratitude for providing me with assistance.” With these words, the man gave to her a stern nod before shutting the door and proceeding back to his place upon the carriage, quickly driving it away, leaving Cináed standing at the entranceway to the rather impressive homestead of the Auttenberg family.

Doing as told by her mother beforehand, Cináed checked herself over before daring to tread up the rather intimidating stone staircase ahead of her, making sure that she was in proper order and that there were no wrinkles in the gown she wore. There was no room for her to go and look the part of a fool now, no, that part of her life was over. She was no longer a Pierrot, but the soon to be wife of a nobleman. . . . This was her destiny. These were the choices that were made for the betterment of herself and her position in existence. No matter the things said of her, or the things said of Louis, Cináed was certain that none of it mattered. She was sure that this was how her life as meant to go.

Whilst she checked herself over, and using her gloved hands to smooth out anything that might turn into a wrinkle upon her dress, Cináed was being watched and looked upon by those who were heading into the Duke’s manor themselves. Other nobles who weren’t beyond murmuring idle thoughts or gossip regarding her. Something to which Cináed had grown accustomed to in her short time within Cellé. . . . Even some of the nastier, more terrible things that had been said about her, they were things which did not at all faze the young woman it seemed.

Ignoring and not giving acknowledgement of the things being said regarding her by those who passed by, Cináed returned to standing to her full height before she carefully clutched onto the skirt of her gown again. I believe I am as prepared to present myself to all within the manor as I shall ever be. she told herself, maintaining a look of apathy as she suddenly moved forward, heading up the stone staircase lithely. Her small form moved quickly, bypassing those who would turn to speak of her and her appearance to whomever they had chosen to attend the party with.

As she entered the foyer of the Auttenberg’s home, Cináed’s eyes took in her surroundings, seeming unimpressed by the many lavish things which decorated the noble’s home, nor did she at all seem to care of the large crowd of people standing and sitting around within the room, talking amidst themselves upon seeing her arrive. Some of these people were dining, whilst others seemed to be enjoying drink, and the live music that was provided. Yet still, there was the undeniable fact that people had begun chattering among themselves about her when they noted her arrival and makeup stained face. . . .

A soft breath escaping her reddened lips, Cináed drew her gaze back down to the floor below her before she quietly began to head toward the staircase, which would lead her up to the upper floor of the foyer, to where it was her fiancé and future father in law would be awaiting her. Hands clasped at her front, the dark-headed young woman walked with as much grace and poise as she could manage as to not make a fool of herself as she proceeded through the crowds, for the first time thoroughly perceiving some of the more terrible remarks made of her by some of the aged noblewomen of Cellé.

The words struck at her heart, yet as she had been raised, Cináed did not show the discomfort she was beginning to experience as she moved on ahead, choosing to ignore the fact that she had just been called a ‘harlot’ for her rather made-up face. . . .

Other things uttered about her regarding her appearance hailed her as a seductress, a succubus, or even a she demon. Cináed didn’t understand why these things were being said about her, but they did not matter now. What mattered was simply presenting herself properly to her future family. That was, after all, the beginning of the path Fate had laid out for her, was it not?

The young women gazed into the sky, there was party to be held that night in the honor of the marriage of the royal family. Nadia Saraphine chuckled humorlessly. A smile graced her naturally pink lips. It was all set up. Her plan was flawless. Beautiful really. She would act as a lowly civillian would, dancing, laughing, and spitting undeserved praise about the royal family. It would make her wretch afterward but it would be worth it. She would finally be able to taste meat again after all theese years. She hasn't had it in so long, her mouth began to ache for it. A feeling of shame rose over her as she thought about her fear of fire.

Marriage was lovely. The young woman sat on a broken log and clenched her fists. But marriage within the Noble family's couldn't be very happy. As a young girl she remembered when her mother would tell her stories of how princes and princessess had fallen in love and got married. Those were the most ironic stories of all. Royal families marrying for love? If it was true, Nadia smiled humerlessly, then she would stab herself in the leg. Hastily she scrawled a list of the things to steal for tonight. It was important that she took enough for a whole village. She had promised them. If she failed them, how could she look them in the eye?

Silently she put her cloak aside and unloaded all the weapons from her body. The soft worn fabric of the plain brown dress slipped over her head and she patted the dust away with her long fingers. Carressing the material, wondering where she had gotten it, Nadia put her swords to her long legs, strapping it securely in place. She had to be ready. Nadia Saraphine had never broken into a place such as this, fear pulled at her but she ignored it. Hiding everything in her special tree, she pulled her long hair into a loose braid, the way the common women did to keep it out of their weathered faces. It was time.

The Rogue was going to strike tonight.

Com Mitchell was in his usual room, a dark candlelit room near the top of the mansion he dwelled in, tables covered in papers and peices of cherrywood and black iron, and of course a couple basic liquids in tiny vials on their stands. The white haired alchemist was busy trying to make some kind of device that could be used for automaticly blowing air in a person's face to cool them down in hot summer days. He wasn't too successful, for he wanted to make one that didn't require any type of magic at all.

He was low on magic energy in just making it. For it to work, it had a wind up key, but the gears would always get stuck because the tooth patterns didn't match or it didn't have enough oil or a gear would fall out of place. It took a ton of different sized gears to make it, for the gears had to get bigger and bigger and then end in a small one for it to go fast. Also, it used sharp blades the cut peices of the air and blew them forward to make wind, and if Com were to put a type of guard around it, I'd fall forward, and he would need a lot of copper and metalworking to do it. Stumped, he just sort of fell asleep in the chair.

His older Misty bust into the room herself and woke up up. "Mmh, what is it," Com mumbled. "We are late! For the celebration!" she shouted back at the pitiful alchemist. "For what," he mumble back a bit irritated. He looked up at his sister, who was wearing a black and purple dress, and standing right over her. "The Duke Attenburg's son is getting married, and there's a celebration be held over it." she put her hands on her hips. "A'ight," Com mumbled, "Take a bucket of cold water, an' splash it over me, I be ready in 10."

Com failed to notice she already had a bucket of water at her feet, which she immediatly splashed over him. Com, wide eyed and extremely shocked from the blast of cold, got up, did a little shake, and smiled widely. After that, he was as active as a wasp, and ran out the door to his untouched bedroom, changed into an expensive looking white coat and pants, and met his siblings at the door. Josh was dressed in a light blue noble-like outfit, with black pants, and Lucy was in a scarlet red dress. Misty came to the door and met them there. All at once, they set out for the town, which was only a 10 minute walk away.

As soon as they got there, Lucy was over-excited and hyper. Josh was quite impressed. Misty and Lucy just smiled. "Alright," Com said, "Please stay with either me or Misty please, I don't want anybody getting lost, it's a big croud and who knows what kind of people are in there," Com was careful not to say 'vampire', because that would make Lucy even more excited. "We get it, we get it," sighed Josh. Com and Misty looked at each other, before joining the celebration.

As the moon illuminated the world below with it's haunting, gleaming light the city of Cellé needed little of its lunar radiance. The city shone brightly in the night from the thousands of candles, torches and lanterns in celebration of the upcoming union of hearts. The revelry and debauchery was all encompassing in the cities streets, a far cry from the restrained and ordered manner of celebration exhibited by the nobles in attendance at the Dukes manor. Standing in a sea of people in the massive town square where the epicenter of the celebrating was taking place there was a single figure who did not take up a cup and drink the night away. The figure did not dance or sing or indulge in pursuits of the flesh. Not even did the figure follow suit of the countless cut-purses this night and work the crowd revealing revelers of their coin purses. No the being merely stood there in utter silence. His gaze scanning those around him curiously. From beneath the shadow of his hooded black trench coat the being that was once human observed everything and everyone around him with utter curiosity.

Marriage was a legal union of two people. To deem themselves husband and wife until one if not both parties die. This entire celebration seemed odd to Paragon. For what purpose did those around him celebrate? Marriage by definition seemed mundane and almost trivial. Yet those around him seemed to rejoice in the very existence of the thing. There was a small girl twirling happily on a table nearby Paragon. She was holding a candied honey nut treat as she sang aloud in utter joy. Paragon figured perhaps she may know the true purpose of the celebration of marriage. It may have seemed odd for the Cyborg to seek the council of a child but in his experience children could be some of the best sources of information. Adults at times could be so jaded Paragon found it difficult to retrieve any information of value from them on abstract issues such as this. Children were by nature unrelentingly blunt and honest for the most part. Paragon made his way to her and stood beside the table, being now at eye level with the little girl. She paused in her twirling to stare somewhat in worry at the hooded man staring at her so closely. Then her mood changed in an instant and she smiled brightly.

"Hiya! I'm Sadie!"

Paragon's head cocked ever so slightly to the side at her innocence. It brought him some measure of comfort to see she was not suspicious in the least of him as so many adults could be.

"Hello Sadie. I have a question for you."

"Yeah?"

"What is marriage?"

Paragon asked flatly. Sadie seemed blatantly confused by the random question.

"Marriage?"

She asked in confusion as she scratched her head, shifting the bright blue bow in her honey colored hair in the process.

"Yes. There are many here who celebrate it yet I do not understand why. Can you explain it to me?"

Sadie giggled sweetly as she nodded happily.

"Sure Mister! See two people get married when a lady and a fella love each other very much and wanna have babies."

Paragon's eyebrows furrowed at her response. He was unsure how this could be the answer.

"Are you certain your conclusion is valid Sadie?"

Sadie looked immediately lost.

"Wha?"

"The legal status, condition, or relationship that results from a contract by which one man and one woman, who have the capacity to enter into such an agreement, mutually promise to live together in the relationship of Husband and Wife in law for life, or until the legal termination of the relationship or untill the date of the deaths of either one if not both members involved in the agreement. Love never factors into it from what I understand..."

Paragon replied matter of factly. Sadie didn't reply she just stared at him in blatant confusion.

"Yeah... I don't know what any of that means. Bye!"

She replied happily with a wave before hopping off the table and skipping off into the crowd. Paragon found himself with more questions than answers now. If marriage was not some legal bond between two people but some form of physical representation of the organic emotion referred to as love then what was the purpose of divorce? If people married to affirm and announce their love why did divorce even exist? Unless organics possessed the ability to fall in and out of love at will. Yet what was love? How could one be sure it even existed? Then there was the other portion of Sadies response. To make babies. Human's had no physical need to engage in the ritualistic union of marriage to reproduce so this was surely the least likely cause of marriage.

Paragon concluded one thing on the matter. Love most certainly had something to do with the matter yet what and the amount of importance it held was still open for further examination. Love was a fact of life that had shown itself again and again since Paragon first began his search for purpose. Love had a part to play in life and marriage, if Sadie was to be believed, was the physical representation of that. The Cyborg would need to learn more about marriage if he was going to understand love and in so doing further understand his own existence. Paragon's eyes scanned the crowd until finally falling on a carriage coming to a stop in front of the manor belonging to Duke Auttenberg, the groom to be. Many of the crowd nearby the carriage turned all attention to the occupants. Paragon hoped that he could observe more from the actual members of the marriage and those closest to them and began to make his way through the crowd. The Cyborg was like a shade moving through the swarm of people all oblivious to the being that silently moved past them.

Time flowed faster for him than others. Things that had lasted years seemed like only minutes to him, and were forever stored in the recesses of his mind as such.

That was the downside to his immortality, of sorts. The human mind was built to store only enough information for a lifetime, let alone nearly six hundred and fifty years. And so, he developed a sort of forgetfulness for details that were less than trivial. And so, as he neared the city of Cellé, a city which he only remembered because of his personal assignment there, the minutes that passed seemed like seconds to him.

He had been travelling via a horse drawn carriage, shortly after hitching a ride by hypnotizing both the passenger that truly belongs to it and the driver. And as the ride progressed, he merely sat in silence in the cab, staring boringly at the glamoured passenger across from him, whom only returned with a dead stare, looking straight through where Rivuldi would of been. The assignment in question involved Rivuldi's little 'profession'. That is to say, vampire hunting. The vampire in question was a noble in fact, and to be more specific, he was an Auttenberg. Now, he had heard prior to this even that there would be a celebration city wide, which would celebrate the marriage of the Duke's son to some female of dying blood. Rivuldi vaguely recalled her last name being de Amore, which seemed almost eerily familiar to him.

The vampire in question was none other than the Duke's brother, and his son's nephew. Now, of course the Duke's brother would be at the wedding of his nephew, why wouldn't he? But, still, Rivuldi needed to double check his source of information, which would only take a small, short detour before actually arriving in the city. And as Rivuldi thought about it, of course, the time passed rather quickly and his first stop of two was reached. The carriage slowed to a halt on the dirt road paved by the many carriages that drove back and forth on it, and the glamoured drive of such had stepped down from his seat to open the door, unbeknownst to him, for the seemingly invisible Dhampir inside.

His first stop was a small farm house, located only a couple of miles outside of Cellé, and it was the home of another vampire, in particular, this vampire was merely a subordinate of the more major one he set out to destroy later that evening. It was the moment he set foot on the dirt outside of the carriage that things took a complete turnaround. First, he seemingly moved from in front of the carriage to the side of the house in an instant, now crawling crouched down along side the house, head peeking into every window he passed. The vampire he was looking for here was called Demetri, and was a huge coward for his kind. There was a reason he was only a measly subordinate.

As Rivuldi was going over what details he remembered about Demetri in his mind, he was suddenly snapped from his thoughts as he passed a window the appeared to look into the pantry. At first, he thought it was empty, going by what he saw in the poorly illuminated room. Then again, not that the poor illumination in question was much of a bother to him, he did have heightened senses, after all. And he was about to move on to look into the next window before he heard just the faintest scuffle. He looked back in, eyes focusing on a cupboard that lay against the far wall. The source of the barely audible noise was coming from there, and upon further investigation, Rivuldi could see the light flicker of candlelight dancing under it. That could only mean that there was some sort of hidden passageway behind the cupboard.

Now, at first, Rivuldi raised his left hand to try to cut himself an entry in the window, by using the tip of one of the Adamantine claws to begin to form a circle. But this, of course, began to make noise and so he halted, only for a moment before thinking 'fuck it' and using his other hand to punch through the window. This sent shattered glass flying into the pantry, and he bound through the window into the home, only to be greeted by the sound of an even greater scuffle from below, and the sound of glass crunching under his boots. He moved towards the cupboard, flinging open the door to find a set of steep cobblestone stairs, that head downwards. More scuffles were to be heard, along with the sound of objects being knocked over.

"Demetri! I know you're down there, and you know why I've come." He called out calmly, begin to head down the steps, skipping two stairs at a time. When he reached the bottom, he beheld a sight that he had only saw once before. The cowardly vampire Demetri, crouched back into a corner, surrounded by broken glass and splintered wood. He was sniveling, and seemed to be trying to phase himself through the wall to get away from Rivuldi.

"Dankánesss," He hissed, gaining only a small portion of confidence at Rivuldi's arrival. "What do you want from me?"

His words were cut off as Rivuldi stepped forward and grabbed him by the throat, lifting him off the ground and slamming him back into the corner. He outstretched the claws and brought a single one an inch away from Demetri's neck. "Duke Auttenberg's brother. He is a vampire, no? And he will be at the celebration tonight?"

Demetri seemed to chuckle at that, spitting in Rivuldi's face and pushing his boundaries. "Yesss, Dankánes. Not that it matters much, he's much ssstronger than you. Even if you do manage to get him, I'll be lurking in the ssshadows to get you."

Rivuldi smirked at this, beginning to shake his head slightly. "No you won't."

It was over in an instant, and Rivuldi soon left the farmhouse, leaving a headless corpse in the hidden basement of it. He was escorted back into the carriage without question, and they set on their way to the city of Cellé.

†–†–†–†–†–†

It wasn't long until Rivuldi found himself at his destination finally, and seemingly melded into the massive crowd right away. He merely blended in and moved with the flow, passing by strangers to move towards the center of the city, and towards his target.

When he finally reached the home, instead of going inside, he circled around outside and began to climb the building using various vantage points. From there, he entered into the upper foyer via a window and remained up and out of sight, navigating among the dusty old rafters that lay in shadows above all the people below him. His eyes set upon a figure with wrinkled eyes and a cold smile, and Rivuldi assumed that he was the Duke. The young man next to him must have been his son to be wed, and judging by the anxiety and gaze of the son, which he followed to a young girl headed towards the staircase, she was his bride to be. He had almost passed over one more figure, a man standing to the left of the Duke. It was easy to identify him as the Duke's brother, for they looked very similar, albeit his eyes and face were filled more with youth. One of few decent side effects of immortality.

Rivuldi moved quick, positioning himself and taking thousands of calculations before everything seemed to slow down. He began to count down in his head.

Five.

The girl who was heading to the staircase seemed to stop mid-stride as things slowed down for Rivuldi, and everything else had come to a near standstill as well.

Four.

He crouched low on the rafter, knees coming up to eye level, and used one of his hands to balance himself.

Three.

He raised his hips, readying to jump, heat rising into his cheeks.

Two.

Adrenaline surged and he leapt straight for the Duke's brother, kicking his shapeshifting abilities into action in mid-air and appearing to instantaneously morph into a bear-sized wolf.

One.

Things sped up again, and he felt the metal claw sink through the chest of the man he had just leaped at. Even as a vampire, he didn't even have a chance to react, and his eyes widened in surprise at the very large arm that was now impaling him. Rivuldi let out a deafening roar before placing his free paw on what was left of the man's chest and pushing him off of his arm, watching the mangled body fall to the ground in a pile. He then quickly moved for the Duke and his son, sheathing his claws and batting them away to the side, doing no harm but slamming them into the wall. His head turned towards the girl and he hesitated for a moment before looking up towards the window he had entered and leaping for it, his now larger body shattering through it and several other windows.

As he exited the building, his claws came out once more and he caught shingle, beginning to run up the outside of the building instead of away from it. When he reached the summit, he let out another howl and jumped into the crowd, shifting back as he crashed into a pile of people, sending himself and them flying. Using this as a distraction, he simply got up and feigned being one of those knocked over, unleashed a wide-spread burst of Glamour, and began running through the crowd.

It wasn’t too long ago that everyone was scurrying around preparing for a grand celebration. Maids ran around doing even more cleaning and decorating than usual. The walls seemed to sparkle as crystal chandeliers hung high on the ceilings. The floors were so clean; Astra doubted that any dirt would even stick if it were tracked in. The air smelled of sweet lavender from all the perfumes they sprayed through the air in order to make everything smell fresh. The maids probably had the most work to do of anyone.

As the maids worked, chevaliers like Astra were going through some re-training. The nobles wanted to insure that if they were attacked, they would be safe. A lot of really long lectures took place in the re-fresher course. Of course, everyone already knew what was going to be said in the refresher course, so it was extremely dull. After the lectures came drills. With the drills, the knights basically went through some physical tests and obstacle courses to insure that everyone was still in shape. Any knight who wasn’t was sent away until they could prove themselves worthy once again. In their place were other chevaliers who had been tested and sent from other noble families who wouldn’t need them for the time being. At least physical tests and obstacle courses were better than listening to lectures, trying desperately not to slouch or nod off.

Even the nobles were working hard in preparation. They were making sure all the plans were flawless before the day of the event. Every noble they knew had to be invited. If they missed even one, all the plans would be ruined. On top of that, their reputation would be unfixable. Oh, how devastating for the poor nobles it would be. Reputations among each other seemed to be all they cared about aside from money. Even then, money was most important when it came to reputation among the others. If one were a noble with a considerable amount of money, even for a noble, it was likely that the noble with the most money had the best reputation. Still, it was bad news to forget one of their friends. At least this new girl… Cináed would probably get a very nice welcome. Of course, as a noble she was probably used to such grand celebrations.

Not knowing her, and having hope that nobles from other places were different than the ones she knew, Astra tried to think about Cináed in a neutral way… Or to at least give her the benefit of the doubt. Until she met Cináed, she could never know. Astra was not exactly excited about meeting another noble. She didn’t quite care. Nothing really mattered. Even if Cináed was the nicest girl in the world, Astra would still see nobles as corrupt pigs with too much power and she would forever remain alone. It was obviously the poor chevalier woman’s destiny.

No one could ever be close to her for long. The only one who did care for her died and the only other one she thought cared didn’t. He only wanted his “child” to carry on his reputation… So he adopted the child her could find with the most potential. It was sickening… He could never really love her as a daughter. He could only love strength, power and legend. Legendary as he was, his adoptive child should hold up his honorable reputation for the family… Despicable. He was lucky that he had never been married and had a child of his own. He would have been so disappointed if the child weren’t talented as a knight… Perhaps that was the reason he adopted instead of marrying and having a child of his own.

Throughout the preparations, everyone was gossiping. The maids talked behind closed doors, as did the nobles. They didn’t know this Cináed anymore than Astra. However, people said some of the most horrid things about her. For all Astra knew, Cináed was the kindest person in the world. It was doubtful though. The only kind person she had ever known was her mother, who was brutally murdered right in from of her eyes… Astra could do nothing. She knew there was nothing she could have done as well, but she hates herself for being too afraid to try at the time… As a knight, she had hoped that she would never have to deal with such pain again. She would always protect people… Little did she know she could only protect people who could afford it and the people who could afford it were absolute pigs.

It was finally time for the celebration… Astra watched as Cináed entered the house of those Astra is to guard. The girl didn’t seem to care one bit about what other people were saying, but it was obvious that she knew. She didn’t seem displease or pleased. She seemed completely indifferent. At least she wasn’t in pain or depressed.

With a sigh, Astra fallowed Cináed as she was told to do in training. Of course, she wasn’t going to fallow too closely or for too long. She was to fallow the bride to be to insure that no one was around to assassinate her. It wasn’t as though the nobles really cared about her. It would just be extremely bad for their reputation. Stupid nobles… They had no appreciation for life. It wasn’t as though Astra did either, because she was far too numb to really experience life. However, she was sick of serving the noble scum who treated commoners as dirt, kicking them around as they pleased. Astra eagerly anticipated the day she would leave the place. And the man the poor girl Cináed was to marry was just as disgusting as the other nobles Astra had known. He, being the horrible womanizer he was, came after Astra more than once. Of course, she only gave him the cold shoulder and left. She would give him nothing. If Cináed was any different from the other nobles, Astra felt sorry for her. No one should have to deal with such disgrace.

The words of the nobles lodged within the ground-level foyer made their way to Cináed’s ears as she moved to set her hand upon the marble handrail of the ornately constructed staircase. She had been called a ‘trollop’ through the means of a hushed, rather venom filled whisper, undoubtedly coming from the lips of a noblewoman Cináed did not at all know. Hearing this single insult caused the young woman to halt in place, not at all showing any signs of discontentment by being referred to by such a terrible title, merely, she craned her slender neck upward, and slowly turned to gaze out into the crowd of nobles with a vacant look occupying her young features. Those deeply colored eyes of her bore through the looks of anyone who met them.

There was just nothing there—nothing but a hollowed out soul with eyes that seemed to reflect a heart far more ancient than the body it beat within. It was unnerving, how calm she looked, how very listless the eyes of Cináed de Amore were compared to her youthful features. As she looked out upon the group of people who were the so called blessed ones in the world, those who were gifted with the right to rule based upon money and family name, Cináed felt nothing, nor thought a thing. By means of her blood, Cináed herself knew that she were a part of these people. All her life, she had been a part of this . . . or she should have been a part of this world. Yet, she had been reared by people who turned out to be her aunt and uncle, and subsequently trained to lead a life as a circus Pierrot, mindlessly performing dangerous stunts for money and applause.

No matter the reasons for her upbringing, or for the reasons her mother left her to raised by Athene and Maxwell, Cináed simply assumed it was what was for the best. Being hidden from the world for eighteen years, and then left to assimilate back into the realm of aristocracy in a short time before being married; it was how her life was meant to go. She was an aristocrat herself, though it mattered not.

Believing herself having stared out upon the people she would soon fully become a part of, Cináed quietly turned on the heel of her shoe before placing a thin hand upon her dress, and proceeded to lift it up in the front before she began to slowly proceed up the stairs; toward the Duke and his son, to her fiancé. To all, this moment shall be what defines us within their thoughts. The introduction of he and I as husband and wife, as the future nobles of Cellé. Cináed reminded herself.

Perhaps other girls in her position would be excited, getting to live out a sort of faerie tale. Perhaps she should have been joyous herself, hearing the news that she would be wed to a man of such nobility after thinking herself the daughter of circus ringmasters—really, it almost seemed a faerie tale in itself. The supposed daughter of two circus performers, she trained as a lowly Pierrot, coming to find out that she were truly the long lost heiress to a once great house of nobles who was set to marry the future leader of the town she was born in. It did seem the sort of story a young girl would be told before she slept. However, there was the matter of the little details not spoken of, the fact that the ‘prince’ in the story was a noted womanizing philanderer, and the fact that the bride to be was rendered without a will of her own.
The ‘faerie tale’ couldn’t be if the bride to be didn’t understand how to love.

Whether she should have been blissful or not, Cináed was simply doing as told, acting s per instructed; presenting herself in the most favorable of fashions to her family-to-be. That was all that mattered.

Eyes downcast, Cináed was simply abiding by the words of her mother when it happened, when all instructions and orders were rendered null. There was a high-pitched shriek from the upper level of the foyer as Cináed neared the top of the staircase. Hearing this caused the girl’s heart to jump into her throat, her eyes went wide with shock and she halted in place, looking up to the source of the woman’s cry to see the root of it. A large canine was leaping down from midair—armed with some sort of weapon, heading right for the Duke and his family.

Cináed simply remained where she was as people scrambled about, fleeing from the scene before it happened, pushing passed her as their cowardly rears nearly tumbled down the stairs. Even as nobles knocked into her shoulders, and very nearly shoved her backward down the hard stairs, the girl remained where she was, simply staring at the scene, as everything around her seemed to go silent. The expression upon her face was one of calm, the only twinge of emotion there were her slightly widened eyes, nothing else. What is it I should do? she thought, completely uncertain. She had not been informed of what to do if a situation like this should occur. No, all she had been told to do was to ensure that she made a proper impression upon the people of Cellé.

Not even realizing what she were doing, Cináed’s form ascended what was left of the staircase, completely halting her movements at the very top when her eyes fell upon the scene she had missed fully playing out whilst she attempted to figure out what it was she should now do. The table the Auttenbergs had been seated at, it was collapsed under the weight of the armed hound, food and drink were spattered about . . . mixing with a very vivid crimson liquid. It took Cináed a moment to fully comprehend what it was she were seeing. “It is . . . blood,” she lightly gasped, her hand clasping over her reddened lips as she felt herself inch back just a touch. Even as she was raised, Cináed’s body was still that of a human, and it still possessed the need to survive, to flee from perceived danger if the need be.

Hand remaining over her mouth, Cináed simply remained still as the too-large wolf snarled rather loudly, rearing its head up but for a moment. Celebratory? she questioned, unable to see what it was doing now, as she was staring at the blasted thing’s backside. Even amidst the screams and panicked howls of the nobles who were now fleeing the complex and cowering in the far corners, young Cináed was able to fully perceive the sickly squelching noise of something wet hitting the marble flooring. Was this an assassination?

And before she could even fully blink, Duke Auttenberg and Louis were being haphazardly shoved to the side and into a nearby wall, the wolf looking at her for a moment. Realizing that it was looking at her, Cináed’s body tensed up and she readied herself to run, before it quickly turned and leapt skyward, toward a window, shattering through it. Her body fell numb, as her mind tried to make sense of what had just happened. What had just happened? The entire happening had only taken less than a minute, but it felt like a forever in Cináed’s mind, as she was not able to understand what she just witnessed, what had just happened.

Hand still clasped upon her mouth, the girl clutched onto the ornately carved banister of the staircase with her free hand and found herself sliding down into a kneeling position as her heart raced within her chest. Her small form trembled as she felt the icy fingers of fear creeping upon her bones, a belated effect. What she had just seen, the creature—she didn’t know what it was, and she didn’t completely comprehend the fact that she had just seen it kill someone, as well as attack the Duke and her fiancé. What is it I am meant to do? Cináed asked herself, shaking.

The girl didn’t know. Her mother had only informed her to make a good impression, to behave and be polite. The woman had only given Cináed instructions on how to act if things had proceeded as planned, if matters had just gone ahead and allowed her to be shown as Louis’ wife. As a noble of Cellé. . . . Breath quickening, Cináed found herself beginning to feel lightheaded.

The entire world around her seemed to be forgotten as Cináed was trying to figure out what she was suppose to do now, the world as a whole was so tuned out, that she failed to notice the fact that the nobles who remained behind in the home during the attack, as well as some of the maids, were looking at her, and whispering among themselves.

”You did see right? That beast, it looked right at her before it fled!!”

”Right at her, it stared right at that little harlot before leaping off into the night.”

”Our Lord’s brother was slain, he was attacked, as was his son, yet it merely looked upon her. Why did it not attack her as well?”

”She had something to do with it, she did!! I’ll bet she’s in line with the killer!!”

Simply knelt down, still in shock, Cináed did not at all hear these things. She did not hear the terrible speculations being made about her now, about her being in line with the killer of the man who was to be her future uncle-in-law. Her mind played back over the things she had seen, and back to the words of her mother as she tried to find some way to compromise between the orders and the situation at hand. Even as she did her best to try to figure out what it was she needed to do now, Cináed’s thoughts froze for a moment as she thought upon the wolf’s gaze . . . it staring at her for that moment. Its eyes. . . . It was almost human. she told herself before being ripped of her thoughts.

“Chevalier! Have her arrested at once for conspiracy to murder and attack my father and uncle!” The voice was of Louis, her fiancé.

Body quickly tensing up, Cináed quickly looked up from where it was she knelt and over to the man she had been meant to marry if things had carried out normally that night. Arrested for conspiracy to murder. . . ? What is this? she asked, staring at him confused. Louis stared at her coldly, pointing at her as several of the family’s Chevalier began to approach her. Her fiancé had a trickle of blood running down his face from an unseen injury located within his scalp. She felt rough hands upon her, grabbing onto her arms and dress, yanking her up to her feet without warning. Cináed cried out in pain as she was shown no mercy; her head lolled downward as a clear grimace passed over her normally blank face.
Her arms were forced behind her back and held there by the hands of two Chevalier. W-What is happening? she quietly questioned as she was able to hear her blood pounding in her ears. Suddenly, a strangled cry came from the girl’s throat again as a hand crept through her short hair, held onto it and forced her to look up.

Wincing, Cináed looked upon Duke Auttenberg himself, the noble having approached her as she tried to make sense of all that was transpiring, A harsh and cold look upon his face, he stared down at her before opening his mouth to speak, “Cináed de Amore, you are accused with the crime of conspiring to murder and being in line with the assassin of my brother. You are to be jailed and tried for your crimes.”

Cináed looked at the man with wide eyes, unable to even form a coherent thought at all, a simple, “W-What?” slipping from her mouth. “But, I-I did. . . .”

“Be silent! Chevalier, take her away at once!”

There was blood… There was blood… All the blood… So much blood… Astra’s mother died in her own blood… Her father had killed her mother… The blood… It was everywhere… It made Astra so queasy. The blood… The blood… The blood… It was everywhere… All over… the horrible, sticky crimson liquid… What to do? How to get away from the blood… Astra stumbled back slightly before collapsing to her knees. No more blood… No more… Make it go away… her mind pleaded. She covered her mouth, trying to hold back on puking. Luckily, she was just queasy because of the sight of blood and would not actually do so.

Did anyone feel pain? The stinging, the fear? Did anyone feel it? Did anyone feel heartbroken, sad? The pain… Was there any pain? No pain… Please no pain… Astra begged… She knew there was pain around her. She hated pain… She feared it more than blood… Pain slowly killed… Pain was wicked… Pain caused her life to be destroyed… Pain had killed her spirit… Pain had caused her to lock away her heart. Pain was evil. Pain was the cause of everyone’s trouble…

Blood was painful… When one bled, it stung… It hurt… It was painful… Did the victim feel pain? Was it too fast to feel pain? It looked slow enough that they had to have felt it… The pain of his blood seeping through their bodies… The pain of death… How long did it seem to them? An instant as it had been for Astra? Years? How long did they think their pain went on? No more… No more pain… It was over now… The pain was over.

Astra, the chevalier who feared blood. Astra, chevalier who feared pain. Astra, currently the most promising chevalier. What kind of chevalier was she? How could she defend people when she feared blood and pain so much? She couldn’t do anything about her fears… They would always be there. But her job required working around blood and pain. How could she be a good knight when she feared things like this? It didn’t make any sense… But Astra wanted to prevent the bloodshed… The pain… She wanted to do what was right as well… She did a great job of it with this noble… He died… Was all the re-training the chevaliers went through for nothing? It was… If this could happen while so many were around, they hadn’t learned enough… They weren’t alert enough or strong enough. Someone died… Someone felt pain… All those who loved the man who died were in pain…

“Chevalier! Have her arrested at once for conspiracy to murder and attack my father and uncle!” Louis, one of the noblemen Astra was to serve, ordered. He was supposed to be the one to marry Cináed. Why would he do this to her is he wanted to marry her? It was obvious that the poor girl had nothing to do with the murders.

So all the rumors were spread about the poor girl in front of Astra in order to frame her for murder. There was no low that nobles wouldn’t sink to. Astra couldn’t even imagine what it would have felt like to have been accused of murder… She had been through many things, but never accused of murder.

But why? Why would they accuse this girl of murder? It didn’t make any sense. Was she so important that her murdering someone could cause a war that they wanted to evoke? Why? Why? Why? The girl didn’t seem important enough to have a war… She seemed more commoner-like than the rest of the people there… It was in the way she had walked before… In the way she stood. Perhaps she was just as much a noble as them… But why would they accuse her of murder? Was it better for their reputations? To the demons with their freakish reputations. Let them keep their evil reputations. Let the devils keep their power for now… But they must be stopped. They cause too much pain and destruction.

Astra flushed out all her emotions. She felt all the blood seep away from her face as she stood up. She filtered the blood and pain out of her mind. She filtered it so well that she couldn’t even see the blood in front of her. She couldn’t see it. If she did, she would collapse again. Nothing could be felt but complete and utter numbness… In both mind and body. Her mind was concentrating on getting out. Astra looked around, trying to find a way out without the other chevaliers noticing. She thought of who was on duty and where. The other knights had no way of knowing what was going on in this area if they were far enough away… Astra thought as quickly as she could… Their best bet was to run down the stairs, out the side door. The knight who was on duty there was observing the bodies of the dead… The could easily get out through that exit.

Not knowing much of the outside world, Astra did not know where to go after leaving the building, but when she got out they would find a place to hide. There had to be one… And as a knight, Astra knew how the investigations were handled and could predict where the knights would go and how they would attempt to find Cináed. Of course, for helping her, Astra would become wanted as well… It didn’t matter. Astra was going to leave soon anyway. She always wanted to help people who needed it instead of the nobles. This was her chance to get out and she was going to take it, even if it killed her. With her abilities, she doubted that anyone in the building could stop her, but outside where many people just as powerful as she, if not more so.

“Cináed de Amore, you are accused with the crime of conspiring to murder and being in line with the assassin of my brother. You are to be jailed and tried for your crimes.” “Cináed’s fiancé charged. What a despicable man… he would go after any woman and evidently accuse the innocent of crimes they had not committed.

“W-What? But, I-I did. . . .” Cináed stumbled with her words… The wouldn’t come out clearly. This was no way to defend yourself when facing a noble. In fact… There wasn’t a good way to defend against a noble… Noble’s always got their way.

Astra reached out to grab Cináed’s hand. “Hurry,” she whispered in a voice only she and Cináed could hear. “Fallow me. I’ll get you out of here.”

“Be silent! Chevalier, take her away at once!” Astra was ordered once again. He was desperate. Did he just want someone to blame for his father and uncle’s death, no matter who it was? Cináed would be easiest to blame, as she had just arrived… But why would he choose his fiancé? It wasn’t right.

Again, Astra whispered, “There’s no time. We have to go now.” She stayed soft enough that only Cináed could hear her, but she said her words urgently. She stayed numb, but the noble girl had to get out now or she would be accused of crimes she did not even commit, maybe even killed for them.

How interesting, Nadia peered out silently as she leaned against the cool stone wall of the Dukes home. It made her sick. How many people had died to put all the stones together? This was a place of blood. The Nobles were living in a house of blood. Nadia felt wrteched even as she watched the lady Cináed who was to be the next woman of this noble family, become framed for deaths that she did not commit. She unsheathed her dagger, ready to lunge in. There was no way she could let such injustice go unpunished. But a question stopped her and she could only watch. Why? Why were they charging her because of a simple coincidence? The beast had looked at her before leaving, but what did that prove? Nadia clenched her fists so tightly, her knuckles became white. How disgusting. They were going to put her to death at the very best, less they torture her beforehand. Goddess, have mercy. Nadia sent up a quick silent prayer and she turned her attention back to the present scandal.

What should she do? Would her concience be alright, knowing that she had let an innocent young woman be taken to her death? Then her eyes caught something. Did the Chevalier just say something? Nadia wondered curiously what it was as Cináed's fiancee shouted,

"Be silent! Chevalier, take her away at once!"

Nadia almost chuckled at how pompous and arrogant he sounded. It made her want to stab him over and over again... or maybe cut out his tongue. She noticed the look on the Chevalier's face and felt a wave of approval. That was not the face of a killer. That woman was going to lead this poor victim out. She knew what she was going to do. She grabbed her dagger tightly and pulled out the other from under her dress. She had already taken many riches from this hell.

Now she would let the charged woman escape.
Swiftly, with a speed only one can learn from necessity, she darted into the way of the fiancee's pointing finger. She held back the urge to bite it off. Then she glanced back.

"Go," She said firmly. Her body slipped in to and offensive stance. She hadn't fought in a while and her blood was boiling with the need to cause pain. To hurt the ones that had ruined her life.

"Who are you? Leave immediately! This does not concern you, commoner!" He shouted, his pasty skin changing into a dark red color, Nadia concluded, from anger.

"May this family be cursed. Cursed forever and more," The Rogue let out a feral snarl. The need for vengeance was too strong. It was so hard to restrain.

Nadia burst into flame.

"Demon! Demons! The whore summons demons!"

People began shouting in the crowd. The nobles of Celle seemed incredibly irrational to Paragon as he watched in silence from the crowd that paid the hooded stranger no mind as they focused their fear and anger at the young bride to be. If this was the result of the union of marriage what hope could their be for love? Could it even exist in the hearts and minds of these people who so quickly turned on the innocent because it was easy. Paragon stared in interest as the woman stood defensively in front of the young woman and as well the Chevalier who was charged with her arrest. The stomps of heavy booted feet resounded in the chaos of the scene as guards rushed in with shining halberds and quickly surrounded the woman who was wreathed in flame. Something about this entire scene unfolding before Paragons eyes caused his hands to reflexively clench. Was this what anger felt like? The idiocy of the humans around him was baffling. One guard stepped out in front of the line of halberds and glared at the bride to be. A strong looking man, thick with muscle with bright, icy blue eyes. His shaved head seemed to add to the strength of the man in his brilliantly shining armor as he rested his hand casually on his long sword. Alexander Mikael D'Canith was the captain of the cities watch and Astrazonica Bronach's commanding officer as commander of the knighthood in the city though these were names Paragon did not yet know.

"Ms. Bronach... I'm not happy. You should have drawn your blade and stopped these murders yet there you stand. The foolish girl playing at being a Chevalier. You don't deserve the title... Allow me to take over from here. Cináed Rubina de Amore... You are hereby bound by law and ordered to stand down. Have your... people surrender as well or my men will run them all through. I won't ask twice Ms. Amore."

He stated boldly, his ice cold eyes locking on to Cináeds. In the blink of an eye Paragon had made his move and the first bone had broken. Effortlessly Paragon had moved through the crowd and wrapped a hand around the nearest guards wrist. With a quick twist and the proper application of force the wrist shattered in his mechanical grip. Paragon rose his leg and kicked the guard in the chest sending him flying into the crowd before catching the lunging halberd of the next guard and pivoting around to stab another with the first guards halberd before snapping the polearm in two and plunging blade end into the chest of the guards neck. Two more rushed Paragon but were unable to land a single blow. Paragon's speed was uncanny and the two guards were on the ground in seconds, one with a broken leg the other with his own halberd lodged in his gut. The remaining four guards all cast each other worried glances before taking a few steps back behind their captain as Paragon moved to stand between the guards and the three women.

"What's this now... Another assassin Cináed?"

He asked never once looking at Paragon.

"Your investigation protocols are inefficienct."

The captains eyes flicked to Paragons and locked on.

"Excuse me?... I am Captain Alexander Mikael D'Canith. Commander of Celle knight hood. You are just an assassin. A knife for hire. What right do you have to-"

"I am not an assassin. Your assumptions are inaccurate as is your accusation of this woman."

Captain D'Canith's eyebrow arched at Paragons words before his eyes flicked to Cináed then back to Paragon.

"Is that so?... I don't suppose you have proof of her innocence."

"I have no more proof of her innocence than you do of her guilt Captain."

D'Canith chuckled and drew his long sword.

"The proof is my word because I am the law."

Paragon's head cocked to the side ever so slightly as he looked at the sword.

"Sheath your sword Captain D'Canith. In combat I am your superior in every way."

The captain chuckled and rolled his shoulders as he eagerly steeled himself for a fight.

"Arrogant little bastard aren't you?"

"Arrogance has nothing to do with it. It's simply a fact. If you attack me I will kill you."

Paragon shifted his footing ready to fight and kill this guard captain as he stood with the woman whose entire body was still engulfed in flame and stood defiantly to protect Cináed and the Chevalier.

Who . . . these people? Why? Why were they all. . . ? For her sake? Were they acting as this for merely her own sake? Cináed, she didn’t, she didn’t understand. The Chevalier was risking her place as a guard of the Auttenbergs, and her own freedom to aid her when they had not so much as even exchanged names, and then, the woman who had cloaked herself in fire. . . . And now, this odd man? These people, why would anyone be bothering to do something that would only pull down their lives and worsen the conditions of their existence? Always, always had she been taught that the choices made for her were for her best interest, as well as the betterment of those around her but, now. . . .

Everything she had been taught to believe had been torn down around her in moments with the assassination of her fiancé’s uncle, with the death of Duke Auttenberg’s brother. She was accused of murder, of conspiring to kill a noble, and also ordered to be arrested and tried for this crime when all she had been told to do by her mother was to show up to the banquet and celebration, and let herself be known. That was all she had to do, that was. . . . All. There was nothing else she was meant to do, and with her life, having been taught that the choices made by others were for her best interests. . . . Was the order given for her arrest meant to better her life? Cináed simply didn’t understand—she was confused, scared and uncertain of all of this. All the once-Pierrot understood, was that there were now people around her who were trying to spare her the Fate before her, to keep her free when it would cost them.

A look of fear etched itself upon the young woman’s face, as tears began to prick at her dark eyes, rimming them as she looked up and at the scene around her. Confusion, anxiety and the terror of everything around her becoming completely uncertain, her having to decide things on her own with no way of knowing what could happen—! Something she did not want, no, no, no, no, no. . . . Choices were made for her, not by her when she could so easily mess things up and make everything go so terribly wrong. She wasn’t capable of making decisions, not when the fates of others hung in the balance.

Now, in her hands lay the fates of three strangers who were risking themselves for her, for reasons Cináed could not at all conceive. Never in her whole life, in all the places she traveled, had she ever heard of this, of people standing their ground against the word of Chevalier and Nobility for the sake of a stranger. Even in her own troupe, when she had been a Pierrot, would anyone have done such a thing for her. . . . Even knowing her well, there was not a soul Cináed knew that would dare put themselves in peril for her, not against aristocracy. Not when rumors were spreading around the crowd like wildfire still, accusations of her being a child who made pacts with demons in order to bring about the destruction of Cellé.

”Our city was peaceful before she showed up!! She’s not more than a demoness who seeks to pull us into destruction, those around her are naught but her minions!” someone shouted out from the crowd, a noble who was too much a coward to step forward to aid the Chevalier in taking down the ‘demoness and her minions.’

At hearing this, Cináed craned her to gaze into the now gathering crowd of remaining nobles, expressions of anger and fear laced their features as tears began to flow down her own. Why was this happening?

“Captain D’Canith, you would now do well to end the life of this man who threatens us and protects the whore who conspired to kill my dear brother.” The Duke spoke, causing Cináed to look at him, true bewilderment upon her features, as she was held back by the Chevalier who offered to help her to freedom, the girl began to shake her head back and forth in response to the Duke’s order.

“Chevalier! Deal with the three harlots,” Louis called out, Cináed unable to see him. Cheers rang out from the crowds of maids, servants, and nobles. “End them.”

Cináed felt her heart sink into the depths of her stomach at his words, Louis wanted the three strangers killed for attempting to aid her. . . . People would die due to her, the fates of people she didn’t know, on her head. I . . . for the sake of these people I do not know, who would defy the words of a ruler to spare me a fate I am undeserving of, I must speak. she told herself, taking in a shaky breath before she opened her painted lips and her words came out in a manner most hesitant. “P-Please, do—do not bring harm to these three Louis, Lord Auttenberg!!” Cináed pleaded, “The lot of them, the Chevalier, the Mage and the man, before the passing moments, never before have they had contact with me, they are innocent of any crime!!”

Tears welled up in her eyes again, and a sob coursed through her thin form as her face drew up in true desperation, “Though you have chosen to partake of the gossip tainting the minds of the aristocracy before you, please! Do not harm those whom are truly without fault, none of these people are involved with myself, nor have they ever been. Even in the long years I existed as but a simple Pierrot.” Around the scene, the gathered crowd found themselves whispering among themselves.

“BE SILENT!!” the Duke’s voice bellowed forth, causing Cináed to inwardly flinch as the people gathered also went quiet. “Cináed de Amore, your words are nothing more than well practiced lies. You’re nothing more than a deceiving harlot—is is questionable whether or not you really are even ‘Cináed de Amore.’ For all that is known, you could be an imposter, posing as nobility.”

She shook her head back and forth again, “No, I am no deceiver! Even if you choose to believe me guilty of something I do not even understand myself, that is the choice you have made, and no matter how it affects my own fate, I not understand, nor do I care, but M’Lord, I implore you to spare these three. . . !”

Shame this had to happen, Com thought. "At least they had some reasoning for once," Josh grumbled. "How so?" Misty asked him. "The thing left her unharmed, but gave her a puzzled look, as if she wasn't supposed to be there, and obviously it had to have been a shapeshifter and an assassin," he explained. "'Course there's no Motive," Com added. "Can we investigate, pleeaase?" Com pleaded. Melody's look added to his, because she'd rather do anything than go to sleep. Com and Misty looked at each other, and out of some telepthic agreement, they shook their heads.

"Geez, why do you two always treat us like you're our parents!" Josh shouted at him." Com was about to say something back, but he stopped, because he didn't want to shout at his younger brother. Com whispered into Misty's ear to take Melody and Josh back home and put them to bed, and to come back with a certain tool.

Misty took Melody and went after Josh, while Com step a litte closer to the big scene, but instead of paying attention to the action, looked around for clues he could pick up. The shifter was likely gone by now, but, Com couldn't help but glance at the hooded man who was protecting her. Somehow, his intuition told him that this man in a way had clockwork. Ridiculous. Nonsence. Back to the investigation.

First off is the motive. He couldn't think of any good ones, except for the fact that he was the Duke's brother. Considering Com knew nothing of him, he wanted to get a look at the body. Sneaking through the croud, he got a look from afar of the body. Suprisingly, the body wasn't more pale than when he was alive. Seems a man, dead or alive, can only be so pale, that there can be a limit. Maybe if the assassin is caught, than the true motive can be found.

If Com was to recall, there was a vampire hunter in these parts, who happend to know shifter magic, Com just forgot the name. Melody's probably just mentioned him or something. Com scanned the croud. Maybe if Misty was there, Melody would be too, however, she wasn't. Still, is that the motive, the motive is the only thing that can point out the killer.

Com looked back at the body. Only one was to be sure. Com ran where nobody noticed toward the dead brother. He checked many points in the body. He seemed too cold, considering he died a little over two minutes ago. The paleness showed no idication of change in tone in parts of the body, and the teeth, tiny holes in the tiny fangs. The eyes? Unnatural color. Vampire like symtoms. Great, time to catch the killer. Com didn't want to bring up the fact that the Duke's brother was a vampire yet, because he might be arrested on spot for treason. Quickly, he rejoined the croud. Guess he'd have to wait until later, but for now, he'd have to enjoy this fight that was about to happen.

Paragon turned to Cináed de Amore with a curious expression. Here the woman stood, accused of murder, treason, a slew of other charges and yet instead of pleading for her own life she pled for the lives of those around her. The cyborg was intrigued.

"With pleasure my Lord!"

Captain D'Canith said with a wicked grin in reply to his lords order. He charged in his sword held high with a battlecry tearing from his throat. He leapt at Paragon ready to slice the man in two but Paragon's hand shot out with unfathomable speed and caught the blade. If he had been human his hand would have been cleaved in twain yet as it was no blood spilled. No fingers were severed. There was but the sound of metal contacting metal and the shocked stare given off by D'Canith. Paragon's eyes studied him eerily before his head tilted ever so slightly and he pulled forward and threw a punch into the middle of the blade shattering it. The Captain stumbled backwards and fell looking up at Paragon with eyes wide with fear and confusion.

"W-What are you demon?!"

Paragon slowly took a step towards him and looked down at the man.

"To see that which you do not understand as something religious or mystical instead of considering it rationally is typical of your kind. Odd..."

With that Paragon reached down and grasped the cowardly Captain by the throat and steadily began to increase the pressure cutting off his supply of air.

"The demon is killing the Captain!"

One guard shouted.

"Save him! Quickly!"

Another shouted before they all charged. Paragon hurled the struggling Captain through the air to crash into his advancing men before they could reach the small group. The momentary immobility of the guards granted the group a chance to make a decision.

"We can remain and fight or flee. Probability of success favors the latter."

Paragon said over his shoulder not taking his eyes off the guards who were already scrambling to their feet.

(OOC: I just noticed on the OOC about the banners, and I would use them, however, I barely use a laptop, however, occasionally I'll use them, and when I get the chance, I'll put a banner on all my posts when I get the chance.)

Com was intrigued by the man taking on the guards. Though many people in the croud looked shocked, most of them were probably cheering in their heads for him. Com wanted to get involved, but he'd likely get arrested and his family would lose the house.

Com unnoticibly dropped some seeds on the ground, and with a little instant activation magic, it grew into a small rose plant, which the guards ran into when running at the invincible man. Com smirked. Com looked around for other things he could activate. He decided to activate the invincible man, but of course, nobody would notice it. This would be funny.

Com shouted something out, "Hey! I dropped my classes! Can anybody find them?" he exclaimed, while pretending to look around half blind. Using this chance to push his way through the croud, and giving himself an excuse, Com walked right into the field of battle. He reached under a guard's foot. "Hey! What's this?!" Com exclaimed. Suddenly, thick smoke from out of nowhere covered the battlefield, in which gave Com the chance to beat the guards down using basic spells.

As soon as the smoke subsided, Com was wearing some reading glasses, and the guards were on the ground seven feet away. Com pretended to look surprise. "Oh! The Guards!" he exclaimed, looking wide-eyed at the invincible man. "Only a demon could do this!" he shouted in a shocked voice, trying his best to hold back his grins. He looked back at the guards and ran to them. "I know some healing magic," Com said, while using magic to activate their bodies so they naturally heal faster. As he healed them, he smirked. All he wanted to do is teach the Duke a lesson, and the strange invincible man didn't have to do anything but take the glory.

Com wasn't unknown to the Duke. Though they aren't friends, Com was still well respected, of course, that doesn't mean he was less likely to take blame. Though, it's not like he has a motive to kill. Nice man, the Alchemist was, always making life easier with new chemicals or hardware or clockwork. Com was already working on healing each one using magic, but of course it's not like he was going to give them enough power to fight right away, they'd be to wobbily right now.

“P-Please, do—do not bring harm to these three Louis, Lord Auttenberg!!” Miss Cináed pleaded, her voice wavered with either fear or hesitation, “The lot of them, the Chevalier, the Mage and the man, before the passing moments, never before have they had contact with me, they are innocent of any crime!!” This girl was far different from any of the nobles Astra had ever met. Perhaps this noble was her only hope in the world for any goodness what so ever. After all Astra’s dreams were shattered along with all the respect she had for her father, Astra also lost all hope for light in the world. Her mother was truly the only good person Astra had ever known. Heaven save her if she would let another good person die as a result of her not being able to do anything and just fallowing orders. The orders of other people would consume her life and she wouldn’t care. Astra would become a mindless robot just to survive if all her hope was lost. Nothing would matter anymore… Nothing really did now. However, Astra tried to make things matter… Which was why she was trying to save Cináed.

All the other people helping gave Astra a little more hope too. However it would take quite a lot for Astra to start believing in the world again. So many horrible things had happened and so few good things… And the one person Astra could count on in the world was taken from her when she was so little… Astra had held onto hope for far too long. She would not let herself slip up again. No one would ever know her true emotions again. All hope of being able to share her emotions with everyone was gone, even if her hope in people wasn’t… If these other two would help Astra save Miss Cináed, her hope would not be for nothing… She could never tell. Anymore, she didn’t care much. If all her hope for light was taken away, it was taken away. She could just carry on her life as she had been before, mindlessly fallowing any orders she received. Even if that meant turning herself in and being killed for assisting in this assassination. For the time, Astra was going to hold onto her hope for goodness in people and try to save the poor noble girl.

“Though you have chosen to partake of the gossip tainting the minds of the aristocracy before you, please! Do not harm those whom are truly without fault, none of these people are involved with myself, nor have they ever been. Even in the long years I existed as but a simple Pierrot.” Miss Cináed cried. If this girl continued as she was, soon she would be arrest or killed. Probably both. She had to get out soon… Now. Cináed couldn’t afford to stand around and talk anymore, so what was she doing?

The girl pleaded with the ignorant noble. However, it was all in vain. Nobles never learned and nobles never listened. Perhaps it was because all the nobles ever cared about was money… Or maybe they only care about power… Or reputation… Maybe it was all of the above. Still, the nobles were all so ignorant of other people.

“BE SILENT!!” the Duke shouted in a low, cold voice, “Cináed de Amore, your words are nothing more than well practiced lies. You’re nothing more than a deceiving harlot—is is questionable whether or not you really are even Cináed de Amore.’ For all that is known, you could be an imposter, posing as nobility.”

The girl accused of assassination and now even fraud tried to convince the ignorant noble, “No, I am no deceiver! Even if you choose to believe me guilty of something I do not even understand myself, that is the choice you have made, and no matter how it affects my own fate, I not understand, nor do I care, but M’Lord, I implore you to spare these three. . . !”

These nobles were despicable… What kind of monster were born through power…? How bad could they get? These questions could never be answered, because throughout time, nobles became more and more despicable… As Astra had been finding, maybe there was hope for a few of them, like Cináed. One could never tell though… Astra would save Miss Cináed if she wanted to be saved. So far, Astra wasn’t so sure… The girl stood there pleading… She was just begging to be arrested.

“It is your choice right not. Your choice only. You can be captured here and imprisoned. Or You can come escape.” Astra stretched her hand toward the girl even farther. “If you want to be captured, then that’s your business. I’ll arrest you right here. If you want to run away, I’ll get you out of here. Choose now. There is no time to waste.”

Looking over, Astra saw the blood again… The red, sticky substance made her falter once again… She thought of the pain and blood which she feared so much… Afraid of the crimson liquid and the pain that typically came with… And the blood… And the pain… It always made her quiver and freak out… If nothing else, Astra had to get away from it. It would continue to bother her… When things calmed down, then Astra could worry about it and let the fear consume her… For now, Astra had to rise above the fear… She had to suppress it as long as possible.

Astra looked up at the noble girl and said, “Miss Cináed de Amore, if you want to be saved, we have to leave now… Even if you choose to be arrested and I take you to them, I have to get out of her now. Neither of us have time to waste. Nor does anyone else who is trying to save you.” Astra tried desperately to hold back her sick feeling. She couldn’t succumb to her sickness which was being caused by her fear or her fear itself… She had to hold on a little longer. Just a little bit longer…

Nadia couldn't beleive her ears. Was the little noble girl trying to save their lives? It puzzled her. What could be the reason for this? Nobles did not speak up for the lesser ranked citizens. THey were supposed to condemn them and take away their hard earned money. This one did neither. She was pleading on their behalf. She did not care if she was arrested. Nadia was not here at this place at this moment out of the kindness of her heart. She was there because she couldn't stand to see injustice, whether she was noble or commoner. But now, maybe she would not regret this as she thought she would. Maybe this strang young woman was worth saving.

The Rogue saw the plants take root and grow suddenly, knocking many guards out of their paths. A mage? And alchemist? No, it didn't concern her at the moment. She had watched the other larger man fight. It was intriguing to her. The man's arm should have been sliced in many places but it held firm. Amazing. What an honor to stand among such powerful, amazing people. And the Chevalier, was also and interesting person. A chevalier was usually a dog for the rotten nobles. But this oone stood firm, her eyes strong and honest. The eyes of a kind person. Nadia grinned ferally as she felt a surge of energy, her mage blood was finally kicking in after years of being locked up deep within her being. Whenever she had felt this power, she had shoved it back down, fearful of what would happen if it was unleashed. But now, she welcomed it. The magic consumed her, and she laughed loudly as the power grew out through her being.

"What is she doing? Get her immeidately!" THe Duke's booming voice cut through her exhilaration and a jet of fire leaped out from her hands, eagerly attaching itself to the armor of the soldiers that advanced on her.

"You've caused so much pain," Nadia's voice was quiet but clear and cold. "I think it's time you stopped,"

Her fiery eyes sought out the Chevalier's. "Go and take her to the village, The small town of Beetle, an hour north from here, Tell them The Rogue sent you and they will shelter you,"

"Go and take her to the village, The small town of Beetle, an hour north from here, Tell them The Rogue sent you and they will shelter you,"

The Rogue spoke, being the first among the group to finally settle on a plan of action. Retreat held the highest success rate and therefore Paragon agreed yet he did not miss the irony in a Rogue ordering a Chevalier about. The young noble wrongly accused of murder seemed to falter in her response. Fear had overtaken her as tears streamed down her face. It was times such as this Paragon valued his inability to truly experience human emotions. Though he missed out on the joys of it he also missed out on the weaknesses that came along with it. Truly a man without fear. Paragon ducked a sloppy swing from a halberd before surging in and grabbing the polearm. Once the weapon was locked in his iron grip Paragon sent three blindingly fast punches to the guards ribs. The second blow cracked the mans ribs. The third completely obliterated them. The guard dropped to the ground in pain leaving Paragon holding the weapon. He spun it and hacked down two more guards in the blink of an eye before launching it across the room like a spear, the weapon burrowing itself in the chest of a third guard.

"Run. We will slow the guards then meet you in Beetle."

In all of the confusion, in all of the ensuing chaos, Cináed heard the offer lain out before her by the Chevalier whom was ordered to bring her under arrest. The cerulean-haired woman was giving her the chance to run—to flee to safety, to save her own head whilst the lives of others were set upon the line for her sake. She had a chance . . . a chance to escape from the Duke and her fiancé, an opportunity to make it to freedom. But, what was freedom worth if it came with the cost of knowing? With such a heavy burden of guilt? Why? Why must the price of freedom be this? Cináed asked herself, her eyelids lowering part way as tears continued to flow from her deeply blue eyes.

The dark-haired girl looked about herself, at the scene before her. At the Chevalier who was willing to defy orders from her reigning noble in order to protect her, to the mage whom she did not know, and to the man who seemed to be invincible against the onslaughts brought forth by Captain D’Canith’s still-loyal soldiers. To the gathered nobles and servants surrounding them as the fight continued and more people were harmed. Because of me, they are harmed because of my protests. . . . she told herself, a vacant expression upon her features.

If she had not gone and protested, if she had just given herself up, proceeded forward and allowed the Chevalier to arrest her for the crimes of aiding in assassination and plotting against nobility, then these people might have been spared this.
In her whole life, she was always taught that she should never make decisions, and never make a single choice. Choices were made for her, for her because others always knew what was best! She didn’t, Cináed didn’t know anything at all. That was something she knew well, but look at what had unfolded before her. While she was suddenly thrust into a situation for which she had no guidance in, no one to make a decision for her, Cináed had gone about and decided upon her own course of action and she just got people hurt. That was all she did, was get people hurt. . . !

As the tears continued down her pallor face, cutting rivers through the makeup worn upon her flesh, Cináed clasped her thin hands over her chest, intertwining her fingers with one another as she felt her heart sink into her stomach. Her mother, her birth mother had merely instructed her to make a good impression upon these people, upon the Duke and her fiancé, she was just suppose to impress Louis and the whole of Cellé. That meant being as nothing more than a doll, a little obedient doll that moved as told, and spoke only when spoken to. . . . Being polite and courteous, having proper mannerisms. That was all she had to do.

Of course, that was only when things were suppose to go as intended, when someone hadn’t barged into the celebration and taken the life of Duke Auttenberg’s brother. That beast which had slain the man . . . it had looked right at her. And its eyes were more than just another average beast; those eyes were ones of intelligence, sentience.

It had caused this; it was the reason that Cináed had no choice in what to do. No idea. Her life did not matter to her, not at all. What mattered was the wellbeing of the others, the people around her. If she just gave herself up, would that remedy it all? Would that solve the problem, and would these strangers who were risking their lives for her meager one . . . would they be spared? Though the Chevalier who was offer Cináed her hand wished to save her, and though the mage and strange man were defending her against the other Chevalier. . . . Cináed couldn’t do it.

Suddenly . . . blood spattered upon the front of Cináed’s dress, and her face, as one of the guards succumbed to injuries inflicted by the man who was defending her. The sudden rush of warmth, the sodden feeling cause the girl’s heart to skip several beats in her chest as her breath hitched within her throat. Her eyes widened, and she went still. More people were getting hurt, hurt because of her. . . !

A rather loud, and uncertain gasp came from the small girl’s throat as she came to realize what was going on around her, as the full impact of the situation settled upon her. The Duke’s brother was already dead, people were fighting to save her when she did not at all know them, and those being fought against were. . . . They were being harmed. Because of her—because of her choice to protest. If only she had maybe just not said a word, and allowed herself to be taken away this would not have happened.

Moving her hands up to wipe at her tear-stained eyes, Cináed made one final choice as her hands smeared the blood that lay upon her flesh. I vow that this will be my last, never again will I decide upon anything uncertain again. Dropping her hands down to her front, and clasping them together, that vacancy overtook her features again, giving her an eerie sort of look with the red stains upon her skin.

Quietly, the girl allowed gravity to take hold of her and she dropped down to her knees, and raised her arms up above her head, holding her wrists together as she bowed her cranium forward, surrendering herself. “Please! Stop this senselessness—I do not desire anyone harmed because of me!” she announced, bending her spine forward. She doubled over, until her elbows touched the marble flooring before her, “Lord Auttenberg! Louis, I surrender myself to you and your Chevalier! Arrest me, and please let this all end; you three, please! I-I do not want to see anyone else harmed this night. . . .”

All the commotion and violence ceased in that moment. It was as if the tiny voice boomed outward and froze all in earshot. The guards stopped their attack. The Rogue and Cyborg no longer battled. They all simply stopped and looked at Cináed Rubina de Amore. Paragon's head tilted slightly in confusion. Surely the girl would die for the crimes she did not commit yet was surrendering regardless. The young woman was so fixated on sparing those around her from harm she was willing to senselessly throw her life away to do so. She was frozen with indecision and it was blaringly obvious that making judgement calls was not something she was accustomed to doing. Paragon did not often think of things in terms of right or wrong or morality but logic. For the girl to give herself over to the Duke and his men was illogical. The Duke was acting out of fear and ignorance. The guards out of some sense of misplaced loyalty. The young woman however was a different tale all together. Her motives were a little less easy to comprehend. Paragon saw the value in her life and could not rationalize her decision.

"Organics always if nothing else display base motives of self preservation yet you show little care for your own survival... how odd..."

Paragon said aloud as he looked down at the weeping girl. Captain D'Canith rose to his feet, wounded with teeth gritting in pain as blood from a gash on his fore head poured down his brow.

"You see... You see you damned monster! The bitch surrenders because she knows she has no hope. She sees her guilt and the cost on her immortal soul."

Paragon's attention slowly turned to the Captain as he continued speaking.

"You all are nothing but demons in the employ of a whore witch and now your master calls for you to heel like the good dogs you are. Put down your weapons and perhaps I'll put in a recommendation to skip the torture and go right on to the execution."

"Confidence born of ignorance. You falsely believe we gathered here are tools in the employ of the one whom you accuse but this conclusion could not be farther from the truth."

Paragon turned to the rogue at his side.

"We cannot do as the young woman asks or we will all surely be destroyed. Between the two of us I believe we could more than likely kill every guard in this building before reinforcements arrive but that will do nothing but risk an injury or possible death of Cináed unnecessarily. I will need you to cover our retreat if any manage to attempt to follow our escape. Chevalier, grab the girl and carry her if need be but above all else stay close to me."

With that Paragon seemingly dissapeared. To the human eye the man had vanished in the blink of an eye. In reality he had moved so quickly neither could the human eye track his movements any more than the human mind could comprehend them. During the bout with Captain D'Canith and his men Paragon had been carefully surveying their surroundings. The buildings structural weaknesses that could be exploited if need be. The Cyborg deemed it necessary to potentially endanger the nobles to give them a sufficient diversion to execute an escape without causing countless deaths. The high frequency blades extended out of Paragons wrists in a flash while he moved around the room. Swipe after swipe his blades went cleanly through the marble support struts surrounding the room. As quickly as he'd dissapeared he returned standing in front of the others. He rolled his shoulder casually and his blades retracted. The captain's eyes stared in shock at what he'd just seen.

"It's.... It's not possible. How did he..."

Before he could continue the building shook and the pillars began sliding off their moorings. The scene became chaos as people began running for their lives in fear that the building would surely collapse on top of them. The bowing of the building caused the ornate stained glass to shatter raining down on the people below causing greater panic as the loss of support caused fissures to develop in the walls and ceilings. Pieces of rubble and plaster started to fall on the people running for their lives. All the while, lost in the commotion four unique individuals cast together by fate used the crowd to mask their escape into the night.
