Introduction

You find it when you see the shadow behind you in the mirror, when you find the brightest star in the night. It's hidden deep within the petals of a rose, the shine of an apple, down the deepest rabbit hole. You can find it at the very bottom of the ocean, and visit when in the deepest of sleeps. But no-one truly finds the world in which fairy tales originated, and for a very good reason. Their world lies in another dimension to ours, a dimension no human has ever been able to access. Over time, as stories began to trickle through the space between words, and plant themselves in the minds of others, things were fixed. Cleaned up. Embellished. Loose ends were tied up, and the evil was always vanquished. True love conquered all, and could break any spell. The wolf was always dead at the huntsman's feet, the damsel no longer in distress, the hero's name certain to travel down through history. But those are just stories - the reality is greatly different.

They live in the Grimmsland, a world far beyond our own, and what goes on there never matches up to the stories we tell. The children don't always best the witch, the princess isn't always wakened from her slumber, and people don't always escape with their heads. The true King of Grimmsland has long since been banished, transformed into a monstrous beast by a tyrant, the usurping Queen of Hearts, and those who flocked to her cause. Enlisting the help of dark wizards and witches, she placed a curse on the king and locked him away from the world, planting herself firmly on the throne. Enlisting the help of the greedy Card families, she has allies stationed around the kingdom, and any she disagrees with have all swiftly lost their heads, to leave her unchallenged. Of course, this doesn't mean there hasn't been rebellions, but they've all been cut down swiftly and brutally, the heads of the Queen's enemies displayed on pikes for everyone to see that she is here to stay, and no rebellion will take her down. She trusts no-one but those closest to her - Jack, the famed Giantslayer, a hero to those who worship him, a liar and a fake to those who hate his guts. The mysterious Piper, who can have anyone dancing to his tune after one meeting with him. And hanging over the entire country is the fear of the ultimate threat - the Big Bad Wolf, her secret weapon. Or is he? No-one knows who the wolf is, what he looks like, or even what side he is truly on, and this is what makes him so fearful.

But rumours are spreading through the towns and villages of a new rebellion rising against the mad Queen. They wear the same crimson reserved for only members of the royal family, though most of them will admit they have nothing to do with any of the nobility - they wear it simply to defy her rules, to show they will not stand for her on the throne. Backed by a mysterious benefactor, whom none have ever met, and led by a small group of people, the Red Rebels, as the common folk call them, are making it loud and clear to the Queen that they want her dead. And then Queen is sending back the message that the feeling is mutual. Those who escaped to the Snow Queen's icy palace to save their heads are being called back to the land to take back the cities and take back the heart of the land. But when both parties believe their opponents are out of their minds, it's hard to know who is truly insane, and who is truly the mastermind behind the war of Good vs. Evil - and it's not entirely clear who is on what side. You may not want to go among mad people, much less depend on them for your life; but when they're all mad, do you have a choice?

This is the Grimmsland, and you can say goodbye to happily ever after - it's all about who gets out alive.

please know that this is an intermediate to advanced roleplay. i expect a post of at least three full-sized paragraphs to progress the story. i'll also note that this roleplay has canon characters, and although you mainly have free reign of them, please refrain from drastically changing them from the guidelines. if you have a good reason for requesting a change for them, please PM me to get my approval.

this rp will most likely be mature, not for sex scenes (although romance is encouraged because it's based around fairytales, and you can't look at one without tripping over true love and all that shit). it'll be mature because of the content and i'd prefer we had people who can handle issues of betrayal, brutal murder, torture, slavery, etc. also, language. i'm fairly profane myself, so i know my own characters will be swearing at points, and i'm sure others will as well. if you'd prefer not to see bad language in the roleplay, i'd prefer you went somewhere else. that doesn't mean to say there will be f-bombs all over the place though - anything as childish as that, and we'll have to have a serious talk.
this roleplay operates under a "three-strikes" tolerance system. step out of line through being rude to other roleplayers, acting an idiot, making your character(s) a mary-sue, all that's frowned upon in a roleplay, you will receive three warnings before you're booted from the rp and your character either handed over to another to play, or killed off entirely. boom. headshot.
for now, i'm going to place a cap on the amount of characters that can be played at the one time. at the moment, it's two. and for now, i'm going to place no limit on gender. i understand how shit it can be to desperately want to make a character but you're forced to even out the gender ratio with a half-assed character you'd prefer not to waste time on. provided we keep our genders fairly equal, i'll allow you to take whatever character you like. as the roleplay goes on and i feel we can handle more, i'll remove the limit. just play ball for now.
like it's been said, this character is about fairytales and nursery rhymes. there are standard fairytales and rhymes we've all heard (Cinderella, Snow White, Red Riding Hood for example, Little Miss Muffet as one for the rhymes). i don't mind what fairytale you pick so long as it is recognizable and you portray the character fairly close to the one in the fairytale, or at least have certain things in common with them (e.g. Red Riding Hood having the red hood, Rapunzel having the longest hair, etc.). if you wish to portray a character from a lesser-known fairytale, simply PM the fairytale to me, or a summary of it if you can, and i'll look it over to give you the all clear. other than that, go nuts!
i know quite a lot of fairytales portray animals as having human minds in animal bodies, and this is where I'm giving you the choice - if your portray an animal character, they can be human, walking/talking animals, or shapeshifters. it's entirely up to you.
