Introduction
Evolution. The human race has always been fascinated by it. Wishing it would happen faster so they could become some new super species. Except when it happens, they panic, and become angry because it wasn’t them who has evolved. So now they are hunting down those who have evolved. Now have entered a new world and left the Homo-sapien species behind. For over a century now, the humans have been repressing evolution. Much like Hitler’s concentration camps, the humans threw the “mutants” or the “freaks” into very similar camps. Trying to figure out what makes them tick.
After studying them for years they found on one common “anomaly” in every captured “freaks” DNA. On the 17th chromosome, there is a minor change, but enough to make us, better than the humans. Humans likes to call that mutation an “imperfection” of the perfect homo-sapien DNA. Fools. Maybe Stan Lee had it right when he wrote the X-Men comics… there would forever be a war. And I like the idea Professor X had in trying to get those with gifts to try and work with Humans, but in reality, that’s not possible.
We “mutants” are everywhere, and we are being hunted by the fearful humans. And the worst part, it’s a law to arrest or to kill a mutant on site thanks to one Mr. Steven Gallagher. Asshole. Next time I see him, he’ll only wish he gets a few burns.
My name is Phoenix, and I’m called a Hero to mutants. But I’m a Demon to the humans.

Taking another of the doritios he replied, still perched on the arm of the couch. "I've had then for as long as I can remember, though they were just bones for the longest time." He wasn't really relaxed but he seemed slightly at ease here. Enough so that he didn't mind talking a little. He gave a flap of his, still tattered wings, glancing back at them before crunching another chip. He seemed to have lost himself in eating the doritos until Phoenix spoke his name again. He looked up at her, blinking his eyes once, before responding. "Yes?"

"Excuse me miss." The voice belonged to an officer of the law, who was staring goggle eyed at Anna. She'd bet he didn't see many almost topless, one-armed warrior women around his beat.
"Sorreh offisah. We pahtied a bit too hahd, an' my frin is a bit sick. I wuz tryin ta take her back ta our dorms, but it's jus' a bit too far a walk. C'n ya help a girl out?" Anna made her best puppy dog expression and the officer fumbled for his radio. He called his partner to pick them up and drop Anna and Cyclone off at the college. She thanked the officers, making sure to act extra sexy as she dragged her burden inside.

"Alright gentlemen if one of you can get on the bench press machine, and other others spot him." Bud said. The one of the three men got into the bench pressing machine and positioned his arms on the bar. "Alright now the other two put your sound masks on and when you see a green light blink you add more weight to the bar, and when you see a red light blink get your friend off the machine." Bud said. The Men nodded as they put their masks on. Bud sat back in his seat and pressed the button that made sound come out of speakers in the room. The sound-waves weren't designed as music for right now so they sounded like white-noise. The Green light blinked.
Almost immediately when the white-noise played the man's, in the bench pressing machine, eyes began to dilate and he started lifting the weight with great ease. Bud watched and took notes. The Green light blinked again and the other men added more weight, still the man was able to lift the weights which weighed 500 pounds now, and this was a slender man doing this. Bud nodded and wheeled over to his laptop to take voice notes. "With this new sound I've produced I'm able to simulate the brain into forcing the body to use more then just 20% of it's muscle mass." Bud clicked on a few things on his laptop "Scans show that the brain hasn't even activated the adrenal glands yet." Bud smiled as he looked over to the man still bench pressing the large weight. "The noise though can't force the brain to make the body go over the 50% mark without the adrenaline, the body is still protecting itself." He looked back at his laptop "But If I add a few new notes then..." Bud pressed a few keys. The noise did change a bit in sound and the man seemed to get a bigger boost in strength when the green light lit up. The Adrenaline was now kicking in and the scans showed that the man was now using close to 90% of his muscle mass and was lifting a bit over a 1000 pounds. Bud laughed as he spun in his office chair "Success! of course this will tire the body out later but I don't think that should matter to much." he said.
He wheeled over to the sound booth and pressed a button making the red light blink. The men ended the test. When the man was safe he cut the noise off. The Man returned to his normal state and he fell to the floor in pain "GAHHHHHH!" he yelled as all the muscles in his body gave out at ounce. He laid in ball on the floor in pain. Bud leaned toward the laptop "Warning don't activate the adrenal glands unless you have too." Bud sat down at his laptop now working on which song or beat to hide the noise in.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bud still had another plan though but he would need the permission of the Agency, and a good parade float. As he was working he got the alarm that one of the bases was under attack. He looked at his phone that gave out the alarm and sighed.

But Shade's worries were unfounded. They landed without indecent. They were at some sort of campus. Funny, Shade didn't remember a university on this side of town. Shade looked at Endellion, back to her human form, as she walked towards him. "So, am I going to meet this "Professor" now?" Shade looked around the campus. It was fairly empty, except for a very large building to the northwest of the two mutants. The building was old and very stately. Shade let out a quiet whistle. "Quite a place you got here."

The rest of the place could be really silent, but not where Paradox was: At full throttle, his bike was noisy as hell. The mutant chose speed as his shield, not stealthy. Thats why, even despite of not yet hearing or seeing the MARK, Paradox was certain that the enemy already spotted him. Crossing the hallway will be a matter of seconds if nothing blocks his way.
He also knew that his chances of surviving there were nearly zero. Great odds for him. Having nothing to lose, he could only win.
By this time, at the parellel reality, Paradox reached his home: A medium-sized apartment astonishingly usual. He than turned on TV to watch some breaking news about the mutant attack. So boring they were that he soon changed to another channel to watch a talk show about people who were abduced by ETs.

While he spoke Phoenix watched him, but the rest of her senses were on high alert. That new robot has given her and uneasy feeling and it doesn't seem like something that is easy to beat. Human feel pain, metals from the Stalker will be highly heat resistant and strong, so no matter how hard she'd beat on the thing she'd probably be lucky to get a dent in. While he continued to speak she brought an image of the thing up in her mind and see remembered the eye. That would be the best point of attack...
____________
Just as Steven got to his off his phone began to buzz and alarms began to go off. Rolling his eyes and cursing to himself Steve pressed his com to give himself access to the Agency level speakers, "All Agents to arms. We have a break on the third floor. Non-lethal force until target is identified. Use caution."
Tapping the com again he spoke so only Bud could hear him in his com, "Bud. You sobered up enough to fight and do you have any new noise makers? I'm not sure what we're up against but it could be a good time to test your new things along with the nylon and tazers." While speaking Steve checked his nylon gun and made it way towards the stairs. The elevator was just a bad idea with an unidentified target in the building. Running up the stairs like a true track star and not running out of breath Steve reached the third floor and saw MARK. "Report AI."

The AI platform was passing by the stairs when Steven appeared out of breath at the top of said stairs. The machine turned it's cyclops eye towards agent Gallagher as he spoke.
"Report AI!" The machine spoke rapidly but the human mind comprehends words very very quickly so it wouldn't be hard to understand. It spoke with it's usual dry monotone.
"An unauthorized individual approached the building at approximately 21:00 hours. The individual departed under threat of security turret gunfire. At approximately 21:15 hours infiltration via window ensued. Facial scans from security cameras indicate the two individuals are the same. This individual is also in possession of a motorcycle. A live security feed of the infiltrator shall be transmitted to whatever device you desire. Other courses of action include real-time location information of the infiltrator. Alerts have already been sent to all available agents. Note: Individual does not match any accessible facial databases. Further information on the infiltrator is acquirable only by overriding base commands. Addendum: Overriding base commands is ill-advised by the director of the MARK AI platform project and such information can be acquired upon apprehension of the infiltrator." It said all of this in the space of about forty seconds to one minute.
"Is there any further information you desire Agent Gallagher? If not, this platform will follow it's original self-directive and attempt to apprehend the infiltrator. Situation analysis note: Directive "Phoenix: search and capture" can be performed now if you deem your own personnel suitable for apprehending the infiltrator agent Gallagher."

The thin nylon shot out of the gun, flying through the air to its target. With Steven's deadly accuracy the nylon tangled with the back wheel until it finally jammed the wheel and went skidding to the ground and riding going with it. Rushing forward Steven was silently signaling to other Agent's to beware and to be careful as the approached the target. The MARK did not recognize the target which could mean one of two things. This is a stupid Human who Steve was going to kick the shit out of, or this was a new and really unlucky Mutant.

Hopping off the arm of the couch and standing straight he smiled at her impishly. "Watch." He said with a hint of excitement. Spreading his tattered, black, leathery wings he promptly and without hesitation began to tear the rest of the flesh from the bones of his wings. His long, blade-like nails easily separating the skin from the bone. Krin watched Phoenix's reaction from the corner of his eye and when all was left was white bone and bits of persistent , black flesh he turned his, sparkling, green eyes to Phoenix.
Expanding the set of bones out fully behind him he grinned. All of a sudden crimson feathers crept over the bones, swiftly covering then and filling out. Within seconds his wings had become a, near, perfect copy of Phoenix's. Krin gave his new set of large, feathered wings a flap to show them off his impish face watching Phoenix's reaction to this.

"Yes sir I'm in better condition now then I was earlier and I just finished downloading the new music into my suit which should only effect human brain patterns and not mutants which should prove an advantage this time. I also took the liberty of downloading the same music in some small ipod shuffles that I can give to you for personal use. I think you'll be really pleased by this." he said. Bud hung up and finished putting on his speaker suit and Daft Punk gas mask helmet.
The Driver stopped in front of the building and Bud Ran into it, security didn't really need to see clearance since Bud was the only person that had a suit like his. Bud bursted thru the doors and followed the noise of the motorcycle hoping he could get there in time.

"Good ta see ya, Merel. Heya Shade. Th' Prof. dinna think th' cops 're gonna be a prebem. I agreed wiv 'im of course, bu' we need yer professional opinion. An' also, I need ya ta watch th' sleepin' girl in room 113. I picked 'er up off th' street where I blew ma car."
With a contented sigh, she put out her cigar in the ashtray on the nightstand next to her. The scent of seabreeze wafted through the room.
"Aight. Sorry fer breakin th' rules, Prof., bu' I couldn' let ma hardware get blowed up." She grabbed her duffel and dragged it in front of her. Inside were guns of all kind. She pulled out two holsters and buckled them to her harness; one on her right side and one on her back. She filled the right holster with a very large magnum revolver and the back one with an over-under sawnoff shotgun. The Professors eyes bugged out when he saw how full the bag was of guns.
"A-anna! Are you going to fight a war!? What is the meaning of this?" She simply looked at him with gravity and stated simply, "Maybe". She continued to dig through the bag. Pistols, shotguns, assault rifles all went on the couch next to her. She couldn't use them because they required two hands. She took her selection of revolvers and other one handed weapons and put them neatly in a row next to her. With a grin, she hefted her M-76 grenade launcher and shoved it in her hip holster.
"I wanna be ready fer th' Agency if th' bastards wanna start some shat. Y'know well as I that half th' students here are muties....Oh! And that reminds me. I saw a girl wiv sum wings 'n fire 'n stuff. Y'know her? She dinna seem ta like me much."
The Professor made a thoughtful noise. He nodded and walked out of the room mysteriously.
"Prof.? Prof!.....Batty old man," Anna said with a small smile.

"Pathetic humans, can't protect themselvs sufficiently and must make weapons that kill everything- purposely or not." She grumbled, shifting from her bird for into that of a tiger. "Tell me Merel," he mused, "If Anna kills anyone...have I killed them as well? I worry about her, but I feel less and less for my fellow man. Am I a bad person?" He glanced down at the large tiger beside him before letting her into his classroom. A couple students shifted about nervously, but they were all human. The mutants acted as if there was nothing strange about there being a tiger following their teacher into the class.
"Hello class. Welcome back to Physics II. Today we cover..."

Anna grinned at Shade. "Help me sort this bunch out on da table 'ere an I'll give ya a fair cut. I'm savin most a it fer any newbies wivout fireballs an' whatnot."
For the next half hour, Anna directed Shade on where and how to sort the weapons while she moved and picked through them. When they finished, they took a rest for a bit.
"Okay buddeh. Ya can pick three ta take wiv ya. I needs ta arm potentially up ta ten of us." She thought for a second and then turned to him. "If ya take guns from me, yer swearin on ta ma crew. I lost ma gang when I joined up wiv da ol' man, an' I aim fer ta get it back. You take a gun, yer my gun. That's th' deal." She looked at him seriously.

Shade walked the streets of Philly, sticking to alleyways and rooftops, avoiding people as a general rule. He needed to get back to his safehouse and collect a few items, not to mention lock the place down. He didn't care that much about the place, he could build another one in about a year. But the steel case hidden in the wall, now that was important to him. It took him about half an hour, dodging cops and the occasional low-level Agent, but finally got to his apartment. He climbed onto the roof of the building across the street from his apartment and stood in front of the window to his apartment. He closed his eyes and when he opened them, he was in his standing in his living room. He went to the west wall in his apartment and began to rip pieces of drywall off in large chunks. Soon, he found what he was looking for. The case, which was about three feet long, and about a half foot wide. With the case in his hand, he teleported back across the street and began to make his way back to the university.

Promptly standing up, the mutant was guessing about his next moves. Two options seemed fairly good for now. He could:
1- Introduce himself and then slaughter them all.
2- Slaughter them all and then introduce himself.
After further reflection, Paradox realized that option 2 was not actually pleasant. Not only because introducing yourself to corpses is usually a boring deed, but mostly because killing all those men without opening a new crossroads would be a rather difficult accomplishment. Specially standing as he was now: Unarmed and with an arm broken. Since procrastinating the difficult things is, for Paradox, a golden rule, he finally determined to first Introduce himself and only then determine his further actions.
And he would have introduced himself if a third possibility didnt came to his mind. Bending forward, The mutant suddenly rushed against Steven, preparing his left hand to touch him. His intention was not punching Gallagher, but simply touching his forehead. What could Paradox be planning with this?

The MARK platform unfolded its treads into legs, the spiked rods in the ends of them slamming into the ground to root it in place while the rocket-propelled scout drone launched off its back and spun away into the darkness and into the sky to scout out one of the buildings. It had a direct link to the MARK platform and similar systems allowing it to collect data from cameras and other nearby sources of information. In a matter of minutes it had reached and was scouting one of the buildings using infrared, night vision, normal vision and the prototype bio-scan vision. It detected nothing from the first building and sent this report to the MARK.
The AI platform had already gone into a physical standby mode to dedicate ALL of it's processing towards the search for phoenix. The moment it received the report from the aerial drone it's systems hummed back to life and it motored forwards into the intersection that was a straightaway for most of it's makeup. The drone was looping around and coming in for a landing, having no landing gear it needed to land directly on the platform which revved its motor and began to shoot down the street on it's treads. The rocket drone performed a series of coordinated flips and engine bursts to slow it down and in a matter of moments it had collided with the drone clamp on the MARK platforms back and stuck there as it should have.
The machine was now only a few minutes away from Phoenixes hideout. It made a buzz and it's red shining 'pupil' opened and shut slightly. It began to barrel down the street but stopped a few buildings away and turned towards one of the nearby structures. It's treads folded into four legs again and it propped two of the legs onto the building. The poles inside them slammed into the side and with a groan of straining machinery it pulled itself up and through the process of withdrawing the spikes in one leg, planting that leg higher up on the building, and shooting the poles out again it climbed the side of the structure till it rested on the top.
It walked a short ways and then withdrew the sniper rifle from it's gun rack and shouldered it. The eye aperture shrinking to gaze it's red shining cyclops eye down the scope of the abnormally large sniper rifle. It's current vantage did not allow it to see it's target through the window but it did see infrared signatures through the walls. MARK calculated wind speed, Coriolis effect, distance to target, and what it was penetrating through to make the perfect shot. Which it took.
Phoenix would suddenly find that the wall that was close to the odd mutant that called himself "Imp" exploding into small bits of shrapnel as the bullet blasted through the brick wall. The bullet had lost a good portion of it's mass from the impact with the brick but it still went through and into Imp's right shoulder creating a rather nasty hole. A moment later the loud crack from the rifle firing resounded within the room.
The rifle generated tremendous amounts of heat and firing it twice in rapid succession would over heat the rifle to the point that it couldn't be fired again for another minute as opposed to the fifteen seconds it took between single shots. So right now the MARK platform was waiting for the rifle to cool down. It's infrared vision was screwed up by the heat emissions as well so it swapped to normal vision. Phoenix and Imp had fifteen seconds to react before the next shot.

"Shame that..." Anna mused to herself. "Merel's quite easy on th' eyes." She sighed resignedly. No chance there. Anna tossed a blanket over the table covered in guns, pushed it to one side, and then left a note saying "DON'T TOUCH" on it before she left the Professor's office.

In no time at all, the little Imp had a set of wings exactly like hers. Scanning over his wings she stood up and began to examine the wings, slowly walking around him, but careful not to touch. Phoenix was mumbling to herself as she walked around, making comments about the color. "Color is dead on, the feathers texture is a bit different. Lighter than mine. And his bone structure. They looked hollow but still heavy. You don't have that much avian in you," she wasn't really talking to the Imp more so to herself as she looked him and his wings over. Stopping just off to the right of him Phoenix smiled and nodded. "That's a cool trick you've to there-"
CRACK!
Phoenix was sprayed with a fine layer of blood, the Imp's blood actually. Her eyes instantly narrowed as she took in his wound and what could have caused it. Grabbing the Imp she pulled him towards her and with a sweep of her foot knocked the kid down to his belly. "Stay down!" she yelled and in the same instant Phoenix raised both of her arms up, white hot flames shooting out of the floor in an attempt to protect them from any scopes the attacker may be using to spot them. Keeping low Phoenix stood over him and aimed up at the ceiling. Taking aim Phoenix created a small concentrated ball of fire in the palm of her hand then threw it up. On impact Phoenix leaned over Imp to protect him from falling bits of wood and tile. Over her head now was a small hole, but if she folded her wings right she'd fit. Looking down Phoenix looked at Imps wound and it was already healing but it was in a very bad spot. "Kid, when I say go, you have got to fly straight up then immediately to the right. got me?"
Setting

Suddenly he found himself on the floor and a wall of fire shot out of the floor. Finally everything caught up to Imp, he wasn't used to being taken by surprise. He looked up at Phoenix as she fired at the ceiling, leaning over him to procect him from falling deris. Barely looking at the hole he stared at Phoenix, nodding numbly as she gave him sitructions. He didn't understand her. Whay was she doing this, proctecting him and risking her own saftey and well being for him. Imp was known for getting into trouble situations but not for helping anyone, mutant or not.
With adrenaline pumping through him and the throbbing pain for his, quickly healing wound, Imp shifted his position to make a sudden take off easier.

The MARK just gargled out it's analysis of the situation towards it's main self. Infrared vision was no longer an option but now that they were out in the open, night vision was. Now the MARK either had to make chase or wait for the mutants to attack it. The sniper rifle would be another fifteen seconds in cooling down. If the mutants began to run it put away it's rifle and a moment later had launched it's drone into the air to keep an eye on the mutants escape path. If they had taken to the roofs it would keep staring down it's rifle at them. If they took to the streets it simply revved it's engine and drove off the edge of the building to land with it's treads spinning on the pavement. It jostled the machine but it would be perfectly fine. The shock absorbers it had on it's treads and movement algorithms inside it's mechanical head would help it cushion it's fall. This was of course only if they took to the streets.
If they meant to attack, the machine just waited where it was with it's sniper rifle in hand. It's red cyclops eye glaring without emotion at them.

Behind her Imp's wings sounded like they were getting stronger but still not healed. "We're going to the roof, when we are up there, I need you to run. Stay between the buildings. I have another hide out just like this 6 miles south, south west of here. You'll find it." The next moment later Phoenix blasted onto the roof and landed and turned towards where the bullet before had come from. Her hawk eyes zoned in on the robot quickly, but only an instant before she saw a flash. As if in slow motion Phoenix leaned to the left, her wing extending to push Imp out of harms way. In that movement, the bullet cut over her right arm, cutting a deep gash in her bicep and went right through her extended wing and narrowly missed Imp. When the bullet passed through her wing it clipped on of the fragile hollow bones and fractured slightly, but more that enough to make flying a dangerous and just an all around bad idea.
CRACK!
Phoenix put her flaming left hand over her right wound and cauterized it quickly. Her wing on the other hand could not be taken care of that quickly. Phoenix looked back at the robot and saw its glowing eye locked on her. Very slowly she shifted to the left. Then the right. Every moved she took the eye followed her. "Imp. I need to you go. Now. This thing is after me. Not you. Run. Now!"
In that instant, wing be damned, Phoenix launched herself at the robot, her wings beating furiously, pain shooting up her wing into her shoulder with ever move of her wing, but she had her goal. Fists flaming, she flew right at the tin can, not letting up as she rushed forward.
__________
It was a strange thing really. The man was obviously not all there and he seemed to be fighting with himself, or thinking hard about his actions. As Steven rushed in, other Agents from both ends of the hall now were taking their positions. Some with guns, others with newer weapons such as the nylon gun and the tazer. Glancing around Steven took in everything that could happen if this man was a mutant. First, he was greatly out numbered. Unless he could teleport there was no exit. Telekinesis there could be some problem, with the tazer there was nothing physical flying at him. On and on the possibilities ran in only the matter of seconds. Then Steven saw the man stand up, a crazed look to his eye but these things were not new to him. As the mutant came closer Steven drew his tazer and quickly took aim and fired just as the mutant extended his hand to his forehead.

He didn't have time to respond to Phoenix's words before they exited to the roof. His step faltered slightly as a familiar flash of images rushed past his eyes. He responded, twisting around towards the robot and Phoenix. Before he could finish carrying out his intended course of action, Phoenix's left wing shot out. It pushed him sideways and he had to catch himself with with his own set of feathered wings. In the same instant his head shot over to Phoenix, easily noticing the injuries she had taken by removing him from harm's way.
As if frozen Imp didn't move at Phoenix's urgent words. He blinked several times as if trying to clear his vision. He didn't understand why she would do that. Had he been her he would and used her as a shield, knowing she would heal quickly. Instead she was basically sacrificing herself for his sake.
Flapping his red wings he turned his head to follow her movements as she charged the robot. He didn't need to see the future to be sure of the outcome. He had face that machine on his own and had lost, but Phoenix was injured already, before they even clashed.
Tossing everything aside, he put on his imp face and gave a great flap of his wings, propelling him upwards. When in doubt, go for the thrill. Imp thought to himself as he heard the bullet, from his shoulder, clink against the roof. The wind tore through his short hair as he moved swiftly skyward. Then swiftly opening his wings he turned sharply, flying above and not far behind Phoenix as she moved to attack the robot.
