What have we done?

In January, 2013, the Woods sister's were able to escape from The Lab, a secret government facility hidden in the middle of the Mojave Desert. The Lab is the only home they've ever known, and the scientists, the only 'parental' figures they've had. But while normal teenage girls were worrying about high school dances, acing that pop quiz, and trying to climb the ranks of popularity, these three girls were poked, prodded and being made to heighten their mental and physical abilities. The girls were kept in cages, treated like lab rats. One night, there had been a chemical leak in The Lab. All the scientists were ordered to evacuate, not having time to get the girls' out, they locked the cages and left, or so they thought.

One of the cages was not locked completely and the three girls were able to escape. With the scientists running around, trying to control the chemical leak, the girls easily slipped away. Getting out of the dessert was one of the hardest parts of their journey, there were many times the girls wanted to stop, and give up, but they kept going, helping each other to get through the desert. As soon as they escaped the desert, they found the closest town and tried to fit in. The government was too quick for them, their pictures were already all over the news. There were false reports, saying the girls were murderers and highly dangerous.

At first, it was difficult for the girls to fit in, not knowing anything about the real life or how to interact with others, the scientists were never ones to hold conversations. At first, they stuck out like soar thumbs, not able to stay in one place for longer than a few hours before someone would recognize them and they would have to use their powers to get away. The longer they were on the run, they slowly started to adapt, to become street smart. They did what ever was necessary to get by, robbing and stealing when they needed food or money. It didn't take long for them to commit their first murder. Now, the governments' claims may be true, but the girls only did it because they had no other choice.

They changed their appearances so they wouldn't stick out so much, and moved as far away from the Mojave Desert as possible, slowly making their way up to Maine where they came across a town called Blue Hill. Blue hill is a small town located on Blue Hill Bay, population a little more than two thousand. The girls, with what money they had left, bought a small house on the edge of town as well as a cheap run down car. The house, a dilapidated two story home with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, the shutters barely hanging on, paint peeling off the outside of the house, shingles missing from the roof. Their car, is an old beat up, black, 1986 Ford Taurus. They're going to have to adapt quickly to living in this small town, or run the risk of being arrested and sent back to The Lab.

Lillian Woods

Lillian looked up at the rundown house she and her sisters had just bought. 'It's better than sleeping on the streets,' She thought, projecting the thought to her sisters as she slowly made her way up to the front door, the porch creaking slightly under her feet. She glanced back over her shoulders to make sure her sisters were following her as she reached out and opened the door. It took a few moments for her eyes to adjust to the dimness of the house, she reached out and fliped on the light switch, watching as the light flickered a few times before coming on and staying on. She glanced around the hallway, seeing a couple wide doorways, one on the left and one on the right, the hallway narrowed toward the end, the staircase taking up half of the hallway, with another door going under the stairs, and a back door at the very end of the hallway. She walked down the hallway, to the two wide doorways, seeing that the living room was on the right and the kitchen/dinning room on the left.

They were able to buy the house furnished. So there was an old couch in the living room with quite a few rips in the upholstery, as well as a coffee table and a small antenna TV. In the kitchen, they had all the necessary appliances, as well as a few others; refrigerator, stove, microwave, even a toaster and a coffee pot. There was also a round table in the middle of the kitchen, to serve as the 'dinning room' table, with a few wobbly looking chairs around it. She slowly walked farther down the hallway, to the door that led under the stairs. She opened it up and looked inside, seeing a small bathroom with just a toilet and a sink. 'The bedrooms must be upstairs,' She thought to herself as she glanced back at her sisters, really hoping they'd like their new home, especially considering they don't really have much of a choice.

Lillian walked back down the hall toward her sisters, 'So, what should we do first?' She asked them in her usual manner. As soon as she asked, her stomach growls loudly. She blushed and giggled quietly, 'Maybe we could go into town? Get some food?' She asked, glancing between her sisters. She was glad that they actually had a place to call 'home' now, she just hoped that they can be 'normal', what ever that was, and stay under the radar. 'I really don't want to go back to that horrible place,' she thought, thinking about The Lab that she and her sisters grew up in.

"This place is a dump... I can dig it."

Sam would lag a bit behind her other two sisters, only arriving just after both of them had gotten a good look at the place. The ever-familiar crutches supported the pits of her arms, the small little white things that they were. She was clutched on tight, keeping as much balance as she could with her one full leg. "Not exactly wheelchair-accessible, is it, sis?" She joked at her eldest, Lillian. She stood beside her sisters, hobbling for just a split second before catching herself. Giving it a look-over herself, her expression seemed blank a moment. "This place is a friggin' dump... Pretty hardcore. Nobody would suspect a couple of runaways to be hiding away here." Again, sarcasm, but playful in nature. She was happy to have a place to sleep where rain wouldn't get into her wounds. She wouldn't outwardly admit it, but she was happy to have a place to call her home. "I think we're doing pretty okay for ourselves, eh guys?" With a soft little smirk on that small face of hers, she would follow her sisters inside.

Having walls to lean up against was nice as she explored the new territory. Looking around the bottom floor, though, there did not seem to be any bedrooms. She immediately let out a loud and exaggerated groan at that realization. "Great. More stairs to deal with just to get some sleep... You don't think we could reorganize things a bit down here, do ya? You know how groggy I am in the mornings and I really don't think stairs and me mesh well even when I'm awake." Again, that ever-present smirk was upon her face, though she was serious about it. She knew she was being a burden here and she absolutely loathed it, but she did have a fair enough point there.

Sam had thrown herself onto the couch within minutes and threw both arms over the back, legs in an open and ultra casual manner. Not like she ever wore skirts for that to matter anyway. Unlike her sisters, she had gone a bit extreme in her attempts to disguise herself. With her already missing an leg and an eye, she had gone the full mile in disguising herself, venturing as far as to add a black streak to her hair that had gone white with experimentation. She wore black pants, one whose leg was obviously more limp the other. She wore a white tanktop with a black coat above it, whose hood was edged by white, soft wool. At the sound of Lillian mentioning food, she reached into her coat pocket and took out the eyepatch she wore when in public and put it on in a heartbeat. "I'm game for some food." Food was totally worth staying on those abominations called crutches for a while. "Can we get some sweets, too? It's been waaaayy too long... And I'm gonna need some smokes soon, too. Down to my last three this pack."

Lynn Woods

Lynn gazed at the house in a sort of sadness. This wasn't the place she wanted her sisters to live in. It was broken down but it at least had things they never could use back at the lab. 'Yes. It is....better.' She smiled at her sister as she searched the dim house. Though it was small and Lynn didn't like that Lillian was right. She didn't want her sisters having to sleep on the streets were they'd have to watch their backs and sleep with one eye open. A bad thing in all their cases, Sam's mostly.

Speaking of Sam the girl said something that caused her to frown. 'Yeah. But hey, I can always carry you Sam. I don't mind. She grinned and gazed closer at the house. The stairs made her grimace. Of course the bed rooms would be on the top floor. This was one of the reasons Lynn wanted a one floor house. 'Maybe we can get a ramp or something.' Of course this was muttered under her breath. She didn't like it when Sam got upset about her...difference.

At that moment Sam threw herself on the couch. Lynn was of course worried she was in pain, but mentioning it would be more harm then good. She tugged on her shirt wad Lillian walked back. Her clothes were baggy and earthy colors. Something bland so she would blend in. Then her youngest sister mentioned food and on cue Sam put on her eye patch. 'Food does sound good doesn't it? I'm sure a quick stop won't hurt. And of course we can get sweets but uh...you know how I feel about smokes Sam.'

Red sat at the local diner affectionately named “The Blue Hill”. The place wasn't much to look at, the building being a simple 80s era design with cheap carpet and worn out tables and chairs which only had a few matching sets. The staff was rather friendly, although extremely small in number, and seemed constantly busy as they ran two and from table to table trying to keep their guests happy.

Red came here regularly because the food was decent, the people kind, but most importantly of all, the drinks were cheap. Sitting alone atop an old metallic bar stool at the tiny bar on the right side of the room Red let out a deep sigh as he stared down into his glass of amber brown liquid. Another day another dollar and Red had been left pretty worn out from his labor intensive job and it didn't help matters that the man a few seats down from him was berating the bartender for her 'poor service.'

Finally noticing tears in the young girls eyes who'd been serving both he and the ass verbally attacking her Red couldn’t take it anymore, and the three glasses of whiskey he already consumed only fueled his anger. “Hey asshole! Leave the fuckin lady alone!” Red barked as he sprang from his stool, slamming his now empty glass on the wooden bar table. His voice was as rough as he looked and standing at his full height of 5'11 inches he glared angrily at the well dressed diner patron, his well toned muscles already flexing beneath his dirty red flannel shirt. He was ready to swing and judging by the look on the other mans face he knew it.

“Hey! Cut that crap out!” A large portly man in a white apron boomed in a deep voice as he ran over to the bar. “How many times do I gotta tell you to leave the other customers alone?! Am I gonna have to call the police again?”

Throwing his hands up in a 'I give' manner Red quickly retorted“Woah Big Tony lets not go overboard, I was just-” Before Red could finish he was cut off. “Yeah yeah your always 'just' doin somethin” He poked Red with a pudgy finger. “Now sit down and keep quite! Only reason I let you in here is cause your practically responsible for a quarter of the alchohol we sell.” After berating Red in front of the other diners the pudgy man known as 'Big Tony' began apologizing profusely to the man Red had come awfully close to attacking.

With a sigh Red sat back down and ordered another drink.

Lillian glanced between her siblings as they spoke, glad when they both agreed to go out for some food. "And we can look and see if any places are hiring too. We're getting really low on money." She said silently, the words projected right into her sisters' minds. She looked at Lynn who still had the keys to the beat up car they had bought a few states back. "You're driving," She projected to her. Lillian didn't want to learn how to drive, the thought scared her, she was happy just going along for the ride. "I'm sure there has to be some good places in this town to eat." She projected. She hung back a little, waiting for her sisters to lead the way out to the car. Even though she wasn't quite as motherly as Lynn, she still kept an eye out for Sam. She just did it more discreetly.

"Whatever, sis, let's eat."

"Smokes are my way of coping." That sentence usually worked when it came to getting what she wanted. "They help me forget about the pain in my stump. They relax me. It's not like I'm a chain smoker, anyway..." She grunted as she hobbled up, bouncing as she tried to remain balanced on her one leg while she got situated on her crutches. She really wanted to be on the wheelchair instead, but that meant asking her sisters to push her around. She hated to impose like that, even if her sisters didn't mind. It made her look weak. Frail and small... She hated that almost as much as she did being a bother to her sisters. She didn't like being the damsel in need. It was for that reason that she ignored Lynn's request to carry her. She was certainly small and light enough, but her burdens weighed more than she did in her own heart.

She hobbled her way out, swinging on her crutches playfully before she approached the stairs. She took them one at a time, slowly, like a child. Then she continued the crutch swinging until she got in the car. She climbed into the backseat and laid her crutches across her lap as she waited for her sisters. She wanted a smoke pretty bad, but knew her sisters also did not enjoy it much. So she made it a point to wait until they went away or were asleep. With their new home and her having her own room, maybe it'd be easier to smoke more frequently. All she knew was that she was dying for one right now.

When her sisters would appear in the car and seat down, she would put one hand on each of their headboards of the seat and lean forward so that her head was up in the front with them. "You think I could get something with bacon for lunch?" For the first time in a while, her blue eyes seemed to light up. "Last time I had it, it was cold and out of the trash. Pretty sure it wasn't good... I wanna try it fresh, you know? And I wanna get some candy too. Maybe something sour this time. I've been wanting to try those!" She was excited. This was the start of her and her sisters getting to live normal lives. To do normal things. To eat proper food and have a chance at being happy... even how disabled she was. She wasn't even sure what kind of jobs she could get with her disabilities. But she'd take what she could get to help her sisters and not feel like such a nuisance. That was the main goal here. Living honestly and independently... without having to kill anymore.

Lynn Woods

'Got the keys, and I'm pretty sure I saw a dinner on the way here. We can stop there. Smiling she strode out the door, fishing the keys from her pocket. Every few steps she glanced behind her, watching both Sam and Lillian. Many times she wanted to scoop Sam up and carry her, but that would do nothing but make her more upset. Once she got into the drivers seat she looked up at the top mirror to watch Sam settle in. 'Fine. I'll get you a pack. One. Two max okay?' As she said this Lillian got in and Sam moved so her head was poking out.

'Bacon?'She asked putting the keys in and pulling out of their small drive way.'I'm sure the dinner has it. That's normal, at least I think so.' After speaking Lynn let out a sigh as the world sped past. This car was a god send for them, and as Lynn was the only one who drove it she made sure to keep it in the best condition she could. It was hard, but the fast travel it gave them was worth it.

'Maybe the dinner has work? Or someone there is looking for three dashing girls?' She chuckled as said dinner came into view, and she took an empty space in the parking lot. Taking the key out, she opened her door, then stepped to Sam's and did the same.

Lillian sat in the car quietly, looking out the window as Lynn drove to town. When they reached the diner, Lilly got out of the car and waited for her sisters before walking into the building with them. She glanced around quickly before spotting an empty table in the corner where they might have some privacy, out of the view most of the patrons. She walked over to the booth and slid in before picking up the menu. "What are you guys going to get?" She asked after a few minutes of looking over the menu, trying to decided what she wanted to get as well.

"Foooo-hooo-hooo-hooooood!"

She thanked Lynn for opening the door for her, getting onto her crutches and making her way into the restaurant. Her and the damned crutches -- no, her damned missing leg dragged them down and wasted time even when they were going to get a simple meal. She figured that they didn't mind, that they were used to it by now... But she refused to acknowledge herself as anything but a weight on her sisters. Making a final adjustment to make sure that her eyepatch was in place, she walked into the restaurant. Playfully swinging once more, she made her way to the table that Lillian had decided upon and took up an empty half of the booth, resting her leg up on it so that her back was pressed against the wall. Her crutches were under the table beside her. She could just barely see over the booth as well. With her menu in hand, she inspected it like she was reading some hardcore novel.

"I want the BLT club sandwich. And fries. And soda, too. Damn it feels good to be able to eat real food." She was excited and smiling like a doofus, but she spoke low. Statements like that cold arouse suspicion. She covered her face up with the menu as well until she closed it and set it on the table. "This feels good, you know? Just being out. Able to just... relax and eat?" Her small smile was big on her face and genuine as it could have possibly been.

Curiosity would tempt her to look around the diner before the waitress would even get to them. One man in particular sat by himself with a drink in his hand and a pretty impressive beard coming in. She thought he was pretty cool, just based on appearance. Grizzly and tough. However, what she said to her sisters was, "Hey. Look at that guy. He kind of looks like an axe murderer, doesn't he? Careful not to mess with him." She would giggle at her own joke whether they found it funny or not.

Lynn was the last to sit down, taking the time to inspect the dinner and all in it. Nothing made her radar go off, so she didn't feel like anything here would harm them. Finally she took a seat next to Lillian, and picked up the menu with a smile. All the food looked good, and she'd take anything. 'I think I'll settle with a nice salad. I'm not that hungry. Honestly she was picking this meal due to it being the cheapest. While they could afford three meals, Lynn wanted to save as much money as possible. Expecially if she would be buying Sam smokes.

She sighed and put the menu down. Her eyes wondered around the dinner as Sam spoke. She was brought to attention by the lone man, drinking. 'Hmm...he's intesting. I'll give him that. Lynn shook her head, and leaned against the seat. 'Well, best not to attract attention. Of an axe murder or not.' These last words were sent to Sam with a frown, although her eyes sparkled in amusement.

Lillian nodded her head at her sisters' choices of meals, continuing to look over the menu. "I'm going to have a cheese burger with onion rings. With Dr. Pepper to drink." She projected to her sisters. Lillian never spoke aloud unless she absolutely had to. From lack of use, her voice was a little raspy. It was just easier for her to communicate silently the way she did. When her Sam mentioned a guy, Lillian followed her line of sight curiously. She couldn't help but to giggle, a hand covering her mouth. "Yeah, he does." She agreed with Sam. A few moments later, the waitress came to take their orders. Lillian glanced at her sisters, hoping one of them would order for her so she wouldn't have to talk. She'd learnt from experience, that strangers freaked out when she projected her thoughts to them, and they were trying to blend in, not stick out.

"This for me, that for Lil..."

The waitress would come to their table conveniently just after they had all decided what they were eating. "Afternoon, girls." She began. Once she caught sight of Sam, her gaze quickly averted over to Lillian. "What can I get for you all today?"

Sam had noticed her gaze, how quickly it ran away from the girl. Rather than feel insulted, she would smile. "Well, hey there, beautiful." That smile was definitely playful. "I want a BLT sandwich, gimme some fries and a root beer with that too, will you, doll?" She wasn't afraid to call the waitress by names like that. It demanded her attention with the faux flirting, forced her to keep her eyes on Sam. The spotlight that Sam so loved was hers. "The two bombshells here will have a salad," she pointed at Lynn and then at Lillian, "And she'll have a cheeseburger with onion rings and a Dr. Pepper. And that'll be it, gorgeous. Thanks a bunch."

The waitress would get out of there and back to the kitchen ASAP, more than likely weirded out by a small crippled girl tossing compliments at her with the orders. Sam would snicker and turn to her sisters. "I guess she doesn't swing that way. What a shame." It was obvious she was being sarcastic and just enjoyed the attention she got. This was typical of Sam. Flirting with people who would turn their gaze away from her. She would only keep her smirk and check out the 'axe murderer' again, admiring his beard. It was pretty impressive. She liked it. "Think he's a lumberjack or something?"

Lynn smiled as Sam flirted with the waitress while ordering for them. Out of the three of them, Sam was most definitely the most comfortable talking to strangers. There was no way Lillian would, and Lynn's word were always followed with an untrusting look. She couldn't help it, but anyone but her two sisters she couldn't help but think they were spys for the lab.

As the waitress hurried away, obviously flustered by Sam's words, Lynn's gaze when back to the supposed 'axe murderer'. 'Maybe he's just a normal dude with a dashing beard? Or someone from the circus?' She covered her mouth to hide the giggles that treated to burst out. This was something nice. To sit and talk without fear of anyone attacking them, or looking at them in fear.

Lillian placed her hand over her mouth, trying not to laugh as Sam flirted with the waitress. The flustered look on the woman's face was priceless. Once the woman left and her sisters' looked once more at the strange man sitting at the bar, Lillian picked up a napkin and started to slowly tear it apart, keeping her hands busy. "Maybe one of us should see if they're hiring here?" She projected, not looking up from the shredded napkin that she continued to tear into smaller pieces, and smaller still until she couldn't tear them anymore. She knew she would have to get used to speaking aloud if they're going to be around regular people a lot, but she wasn't looking forward to it.

"Alright, alright, I got it..."

Sam would nod at her sister and give a sarcastic sigh. "I'm the one with the people skills here, I guess. Go figure." And she would stick her tongue out playfully before fishing out her crutches and standing them up to get herself up. "I'll be back in a minute, girls. Probably before the food." With a grunt, she would set her left leg forward and moved over to the bar. She intentionally sat next to the bearded man and leaned her crutches up against the bar to her right before asking the barkeep for the manager. They would nod and make their way to the back. This was when she would take her time to talk to the man beside her. With a grin, she would turn to him and nudge his arm. "Hey, dude. Your beard is really cool. You been growing it out long?" Yeah, that was her topic of conversation. She didn't even know what it was about beards that she even liked. Maybe it was how tough he looked. Compared to him, she probably looked like a child. And her injuries did no efforts to hide themselves, beyond the eyepatch.

Lynn Woods

When Sam stood up from the booth a small amount of panic coursed through Lynn. It was stupid, the sane part of her mind told her. After all, she was just across the room. In her sight completely. But still, years of being poked and prodded made her on edge whenever her sisters were out of arms reach. Sighing she leaned back and pinched the bridge of her nose, a headache forming.

'Can't stay near us can she? Has to go talk to everyone she sees...' Lynn mumbled, moving to rest her head on the table. She didn't mean the words in a rude way, but still Lynn had to wonder, would it be so hard to stay low? All she wanted was to see her sisters safe, and happy.

'Hey Lilly, I need to ask. Do you think we can do this? Jobs and such? I'll take as many as I can to get money but I have no idea if anyone will want Sam. Don't tell her that by the way. And if you're uncomfortable with talking you don't have to get one.' Lynn turned her head so it was facing her youngest sister. It was rare for her to ask questions like this, but with Sam away she could spill her fears about this new life.

Lillian Woods

Lilly watched Sam as she walked across the room and sat down next to the guy they had been talking about moments before. She sighed quietly, turning her attention to Lynn as she spoke. She frowned slightly at her sister's worries. Lilly swallowed hard, opening her mouth as if to talk, but nothing came out. She swallowed once more and cleared her throat before trying again. "W-we don't have a choice." She said, her voice raspy from years of un-use. "We have to make it work." She added. Speaking out loud was strange for her, it'd been years since she's heard her own voice.

As Red finished his fifth drink he tried to ignore the glares he received every time he made eye contact with Big Tony who was now running the bar. At this point Red was feeling pretty light headed, and of course, was rather angry like always. Occasionally he'd eye the man he had yelled at earlier, toying with the idea of roughing him up in the parking lot.

Suddenly though out of the corner of his eye Red noticed the table of three girls behind him shooting giggles and glances his way, in his mind they were probably laughing at his unruly appearance or drunken demeanor. As his fist tightened around his glass in silent anger he did his best to ignore the group, his eyes transfixed on the glass of whiskey in his hand in an effort to take his mind off of his constant nagging anger. He was quickly brought back to reality however by the loud clatter of crutches on counter top.

Curiously he turned to look at the newcomer who was sitting next to him and he immediately recognized her as one of the girls from the table behind him, only he hadn't noticed in the quick glance he'd shot them earlier that the poor girl was missing several limbs and an eye. His face momentarily showed his surprise as he eyed her up and down, however he instantly returned to wearing his almost ever present scowl.

The way she had nudged him and blatantly asked a question that he could tell was honest curiosity and not small talk made him somewhat like her immediately, a fact he wouldn't admit to himself having long ago decided his disdain for most people. Having let out an open chuckle Red quickly downed the remainder of his drink before responding. "Ill tell you that if you tell me if you've ever thought about wearin a peg leg" He asked unafraid in his usual gruff voice, his slightly yellowish cigarette stained teeth grinning behind his beard the whole while. The entire time he waited for a response he stared at her, but not the kind of stare many people would give when faced with a person whose body was so broken, instead he stared at her like she was everyone else in the room-a completely normal person.
