Expressing Yourself

Expressing Yourself

0 INK

In the far future, knowledge becomes the main priority and art is looked down upon until it becomes outlawed to sing, dance, draw, or express yourself in any other way. But what happens when children of a large city start breaking these laws?

2,609 readers have visited Expressing Yourself since stormwolf321 created it.

Introduction

During years and years of growing technology and science, knowledge starts becoming the main priority of the entire world until it has dominated the peoples aspects. Things though, that do not require knowledge of any importance are looked down upon such as art, drama, and sports. Soon with mobs and uprisings, art itself is outlawed by all countries. Art teachers, drama teachers, and coaches are fired and put to jail until all art and sports in schools is banned. Years later, people laugh at the word art and mere drawing in the sand or tossing a ball back and forth in public will earn you a lifetime in prison.

But this all starts to change when teenagers and children start breaking these laws secretly but eventually they will have to get caught. But can these children of the glorious Nyukami City show the world what these laws are doing is wrong, or will they be the very few that get put in jail for a lifetime.
Image
**The main street of Nyukami City. This holds most of the markets for food, gadgets and parts.
Image
**The factory part of the city. It holds most of the robot industries and hovercraft industries. This is also where people tend to 'hang out'.

Fauna

Fauna sat awkwardly at the dinner table with her parents in front of her. She slowly played with her food some until... "Fauna! Stop playing with your food! It is highly unlady like and very inappropriate at the dinner table!" Her mother shouts immediately. Her mother shared the same green hair and green eyes as she did. "Okay..." she says in her usual monotone voice.

After another awkward 30 minutes, Fauna had finally finished her food. "Well, I'm done here. I'm going to study some for my medics test next week..." She said before getting up and walking over to her bag. "Alright sweet heart. Just be here in 1 hour." Her mother says. "yes, mom..." She says at last before slinging her book bag around her shoulder and walked out the door. She carefully walked through the streets in her regular school uniform until she was out of the peoples, and police's reach. She was on the outskirts of Nyukami. In fact, she believed this was the only place that the city hasn't touched.

The sides of buildings are swallowed by kudzoo and the cracks in the concrete are aligned with dandelions. She continued through the alleys until she saw what she was searching for. The old abandoned art school. She smiled and eagerly crawled through a whole in one of the doors. she was greeted with a sunlit room with posters about art and hand made crafts sit on one of the tables untouched. The government hadn't found this place. In fact it thought that kids would stay away from this. She chuckled and went into one of the closets and dressed into a loose white dress with a green ribbon. She let her hair loose and then dug into the closets clothes until she found a small gadget. It was touch screen and had an apple on the back, god only knows why. But it was precious to her.

She sifted through the thousands of songs until coming across one in particular. She clicked on it and it instantly started playing. With that she opened the door and did a series of movements and twists while she sang the words note for note. It was the only time she actually felt free in her life...

Avastir

Avastir walked through the market holding a small box of tools and things needed to repair a hovercraft. He stepped onto a large tile. A keypad was in front of him and he quickly entered in the numbers before the tile lifts out of the ground and starts ascended until it meets its destination. The transparent door slides open and he walks in and was greeted by the loud mouthed Mr. Ayinuik. "Mornin' there son!" He practically shouts and giving Avastir a hard pat on the back. "M-morning..." he sputters out. "Hehe, she's in the back room there..." Ayinuik says as he pointed his thumb at the back room.

Avastir sighs and enters it. He never wanted to be a repairs man. He wanted to be a professional soccer player or a skateboarder like that Tony dude was when these laws didn't exist. Oh how he wish he could go up to the man who made these laws and... "Oh! And f you get a scratch on her it will owe you big time!" Ayinuik says interrupting Avastir's thoughts. He sighs inwardly. "Yes sure..." Is all he says before the metallic door slides closed in the blink of an eye.

"I don't care! Shut up and tinker with your little toys! I'm going in my room!"

Screaming like every normal day, Konstantyn growled at his older brother, whom at the moment was in Konstantyn's face, both of them staring eachother down like hungry pumas in the mountains. Unlike little Konstantyn's brother, the male had his teeth bared like a feline. Good resemblance, huh?

On the other hand, Kon's brother had an expression of "i-just-ate-a-lemon".

"They are not toys. They are robots. ROBOTS. Must I spell it for you, incoherent moron?"
"I think I can spell quite nicely, bro. Now get out of my face, or I swear to my heart, I will slap you right across the face. Your breath smells like crap. God. Get mouthwash."

Kon's older brother, which I shall now identify as Aaron, grabbed the younger youth's arm to stop him from trying to hit him. "Childish." Shaking his head, Aaron shoved the younger male to the side and stomped up the winding staircase, growling and huffing.

Shuddering, the younger male clenched his hands into fists and went up to his own room. "I'm going to my happy place," he muttered, slamming his door loudly like a pack of elephants and snatching up his notepad, locking his door, and hopping right out of his window.

Mocking his older sibling, he muttered under his breath, cursing. "I'm better than you because I can make robots. Alright then, older brother, why don't you make a robot go haywire and murder you? That'd be wonderful." Not actually meaning his words, his mouth began aching considering he fell on his jaw a couple of hours ago.

Konstantyn turned a sharp corner, nearly running into the protruding wall, and made his way to the old school, sighing in obvious pleasure. "At last, away from the drama and my stupid brother." The male's scowl turned into a small, soft smile as he silently, as silent as a lingering ghost, made his way through the door and to a windowsill.

Plucking out a pen from one of his pockets, he seated himself comfortably on the windowsill and began sketching, so entranced into his artwork that he didn't hear the melodic songs coming from a nearby lawbreaker. The male soon was singing as he worked, mainly a hyper song that he rather enjoyed, called "Doktorspiele". It was a German song, and though he didn't know what the actual words were, he liked it.

(Lul I'm serious. I don't know what the English translation is for it, but it's a pretty epic song. xD Nightcore version, atleast.)

Fauna

Fauna, unaware of the lawbreaker just outside of the room continued dancing and singing the flowing music as her feet would practically have a mind of it's own. When the chorus began, her motions were faster and more thrilled and her voice became higher whereas, when the solo started, her movements would become more focused and slow. On the final notes of the song she did a twirl and stopped as her foot steadied her. Her dress falling to her sides.

Her imagination got the best of her. She saw an audience in front of her clapping and shouting. Instead of feeling stage fright or shy she did a curtsy cause in her mind, no one called her a freak. No one said she had to be a doctor. And best of all. No one arrested her for doing what she loves to do most. Poetry, dancing, singing, drawing, she loved it all. And no one in her mind could ever degrade her about it or arrest her cause in her world, she was free.

She chuckled, her eyes now closed as she could here there shouting out 'more'! It wasn't like she wanted to be the center of attention. She just wanted someone to like her for who she is and what she does.

But when she opened her eyes, they were gone... Yes, sometimes Fauna had to be reminded that she was still in this cursed world... She had to be reminded that she wasn't free at all...

Fauna's eyes drooped but she perked up when another song started. This time it was her all time favorite song. She laughed at her sadness and sprung up before singing the solo. She then imagined the colors and posters around her were swirling around until it was a colorful pool below her feet. The drawings coming to life and flying above her as if it were real. Eh... Fauna can be reminded later...

Avastir

Avastir was just about finished when Mr. Ayinuik came into the room with one of his buddies. "Ah! That'a boy! I see there ain't a scratch on 'er!" Ayinuik says as he patted 'her'. Avastir was under the craft and frowned at the man. He hated fixing things or building things for these people. They were all emotionless and cared nothing of others. Only technology. These people were so stuck up about their precious toys and useless junk that they forgot all about the real beauty of things. The beauty of what they can do.

When Avastir was little, sports were outlawed. He might have not been old enough to play in any, but he sure knew what that meant. No more soccer football, tennis, ping pong, and skateboarding. He was thinking of more hings to say about the sick government when something that Mr. Ayinuik says catches the male's attention. "Yeah, I heard this one boy got arrested for playing with a ball in his back yard." Ayinuik says. Avastir grinds his teeth. "Eh, serves the kid right. He shouldn't be disobeying the laws like that..." "Yeah, but he was just a kid..." "Kid or adult, it doesn't matter. Stuff like that takes attention away from the real things like how to build all these cool contraptions. Besides, all that stuff is a bunch of useless knowledge anyway..."

Avastir had heard enough. Pulled away from his work and slid out from under the hovercraft. "Alright Mr. Ayinuik! It should be up and ready to go!" Lie. "Ah, Thanks Avastir." "No problem..." The others might have not detected it but there was a hint of coldness to his voice and he slightly took a quick look over at Mr. Ayinuik's friend. Avastir gave him a quick glare when he wasn't looking before walking out of opening and hearing the sound of soft glass rub against each other as the sliding door shut.

Munch! Munch!
The sounds of eating had echoed throughout the entire building, with the only other sound being the soft pitter-patter of paws against the hard concrete floor. There wasn’t a soul in sight in the main entrance, but further back in the one story warehouse, behind the turning walls and pipes that sprawled all over the floor, was a girl sitting on a bench, munching on a sandwich she had managed to buy this morning at the market near here; the black and white cat sat beside her, eating its own small fish Anaee managed to buy as well. From the looks of this small young lady, she had been painting all morning, and part of the night; her hair a wild mess while she had green, red, blue, purple and a shade of dull rose color all over her, even her hair had crusted paint in it. She was dressed in cargo pants and a gray tank-top that had paint stains from previous painting adventures. Anaee was having her full attention on her sandwich; her eye brows knitted together as her cheeks appeared chubby as she chewed the sandwich, looking like she had a mission to destroy the sandwich. The cat meowed, notifying Anaee that it was done with its food; it raised its leg and started to groom itself. She pulled her attention away from the sandwich to look at the cat, its belly plump with food as it finished grooming itself to stare back at Anaee. She couldn’t help but to let out a giggle and smile real wide, swallowing whatever food was left in her mouth.

Putting her sandwich down by her side, Anaee reached over and pet the now purring cat. "Your such a cute cat!" Her hands tracing from the head to the stomach, the cat rolling over like a dog; that only made Anaee laugh louder. She reached up to the sky, stretching her limbs before getting up, walking near the huge square figures that lined the walls with white sheets over them. Anaee lifted one of the sheets to reveal a beautiful painting of a cat, one that looks exactly like the cat besides her. The cat jumped down from the bench and crept up towards painting and stopped, just barely looking at it before pawing. "Do you like it? Its you Tabby!" She said, already having a name for the small cat. Tabby sat back and looked at her as if he hadn't liked it, which in return only made Anaee puff out her cheeks and pout, crossing her arms as she squatted next to the cat. "That's not nice, I worked hard on that!" She scowled. As if Tabby could really understand her, the cat crawled towards her and rubbed its back against her leg, purring. Her scowl turned into a gentle smile before squeaked, grabbing the cat abruptly and making Tabby hiss and meow out of surprise. "Your so adorable! I wish I could take you home!" Anaee's voice carried throughout the warehouse and if anyone saw her, they would thought she would be mad. She swung the cat side to side, Tabby looking like he was either holding onto dear life or trying to break free from her grasp.

Kodi layed on her bed, with her notebook against her lap. Her back as up against a wall and her legs were brought up. Her notebook was pressed against her skinny thighs. She drew an eagle flying freely in the sky, with no worry, no law, no nothing. Just freedom. Oh, if I was like this eagle, i'd be the happiest girl in the world. Kodi thought. She smiled and admired at her drawing. She was interuppted when her younger sister barged in the room. "Hey, Tata! Whatcha' doing?" Her little sister, which looked like Kodi but her eyes and her hair legnth. Her little sister was named Yessyina but Kodi calls her Yessy. Yessy waddled over to Kodi's bed and scrambled next to Kodi and glared at her drawing.

"You breaking the law again?"
"Shh, they will hear you!"
"Sorry.. That's a nice birdy."
"Thanks."
"When i grow up, i'm going to draw just like you!"
"No no no no! You DO NOT want to draw like me!"
"Why not?"
"They'll take you away from Momma and Dani!"
"No!"
"See? Now i got to go to my happy place."
"Fine. See Ya!"

Dani was the family dog. He was a Great Dane, hence the reason his name is Dani. Yessy scuttled off the bed and waved to Kodi before exiting her room. Kodi shut her notebook and walked towards the backyard door. She silently shut it when she was on the other side. She hid her notebook and pencil inside her jacket pocket. Her jacket was a dull grey color, with the name Kodi sewn in the back, on the collar in black.

Kodi walked to the back of the town, her long skinny legs catching up to go in front of on another. She arrived at at a big abandoned building. If Kodi squinted she could've seen an art school. She sat in front of the building. She was sitting on the cold, dull concrete. She looked around to see if anyone was there, and took out her notebook and pencil and begain doodling away her imagination.

I hate this already.

It hasn't been, at the very least, 5 minutes since he had stepped outside his apartment, and already he felt uncomfortable to be out here in the streets. Despite that he lived in a more secluded area, therefore a more lack of people present, Erlin strongly abhorred being without the darkness of his room where he could work with his little gadgets and formulating plans to create and sell to companies of his prototype weaponry designs, but he also hated having to be called out on his feminine features - as everyone doesn't live under a rock, like he'd hope to. Eventually, they'd comment on his appearance and say something that will irk him to no end. And so, he'd have to come out at some point, and then release some vitamin D from his skin as he did. In this view, he'd help maintain health, so he wouldn't have to go to some hospital, which was more undesirable to think about.

Stopping himself from over-thinking too much to the point that he'd just go back inside to sleep, defeating his purpose of being outside in the first place, Erlin kept walking as he walked past several districts and began towards an area where he often went to. He tried to supply himself with reason of having to purchase new, stronger material to fully be able to plan out a new idea forming in his head, but the sunlight and the increase in people being about was extremely distracting.

When he finally arrives to the appropriate market that contained the material he needed, he stuffs his face behind the large black scarf in a sad attempt to hide his face - not that any one would be bothered to look - that was wrapped around his shoulders and neck many times due to its long size. His gray eyes kept to the ground in a blank expression despite the slight turn in his brows that made it seem like a frustrated frown, keeping his hands in his dark gray jean pockets in the slight chill he felt for being inside an extremely warm apartment for too long. Pulling the long sleeved gray and white shirt down more to go reach his knuckles, he makes a note to himself to go and try to find his trench coat among the mess in his room later.

He only stops momentarily to look up to stare at the sky overhead, as if to expect a bird in the sky in a moment of weakness, but of course to his disappointment, there were none. Standing there for several moments before walking again with his head low and slouching figure, he kept his pace, only to hit something in front of him moments later, and took several steps back before pathetically losing his balance and falling backwards. Now hitting concrete with a pain in his gluteus maximus and gluteus medius muscles, he hoped that he had either walked into a wall or a pole when he wasn't looking, because it's be utterly embarrassing and completely troublesome if it were a person. To hell if people saw, he'd worry about that later. Erlin held a hand to his forehead as he pulled back his long fringe, to feel if there were any damage done, already feeling a headache coming on.

He could almost indefinitely feel his cheeks and skin began to flush in red, trying to keep himself together with a blank look to hide his embarrassment for not watching where he was going. He does not dare look up until he could gather enough pride to do so.

Avastir

Avastir walked along the streets of the city. His shoulders were slouched, hands in pockets, and his two long bangs covered up his eyes to where a only a small portion of the blue color could be seen. He was being awfully slow. His steps seemed to drag the ground and it appeared as if he had just got fired from a job. He was greeted with strange looks and murmurs from other people around him but Avastir didn't seem to notice. Instead he seemed to walk even slower.

He reached the main street and looked out. The river in the middle of the two side walks stretched and snaked its way through the building. On the map, it appeared as if it had cut the city in half. Smaller rivers that met with main street were built as water ways for people to move around on. There were sometimes boats here and there from people who have recently used the river. Avastir's most favorite thing to do as a kid was to jump around on the square tiles along the river that helped with transporting people from one end of the street to the other.

He would have competitions with himself, of course out of view from others. He would step on the automatic moving plate and once it had moved as far as his eager self could wait, he would jump as hard as he could to the other side. Sounds childish but growing up with no means of fun at all and you sort of... create. Avastir began to smile at the times when he would lose when he fell into the river and he would have to return home with an excuse as to why he was soaked. It was always the usual, 'I slipped... and fell...' with the exact pauses.

Avastir stood there just staring at the river until the people behind him had started to chuckle. He turned around and saw a boy across from him holding his head as he sat on the ground. It looked like he had just rammed into something and since there was a pole in from of him, that only added on to the possibilities. Ouch. Avastir thought as he clutched his own head. He looked around and found that the people had now returned to their daily lives. Avastir sighed and decided to make confrontation. He started by walking up to the boy who was now flushed a bright red and offering his hand to the fallen male.

Slowly, he wrapped up his drawing, finally realizing that someone else was here, and he could definitely keep this as a fact since there was a melodic singing voice with music.

Konstantyn gradually blinked, his feminine eyelashes brushing under his bottom eyelid as he twitched once in confusion. "How could I have ignored that?" Clutching onto his notepad, he wiggled for a brief moment before feeling himself falling, and then suddenly, THUMP.

"Crap," he growled, groaning in dissatisfaction and brushing off his attire of grime. Flipping open to a new page in his notepad, he gently clicked his "trusty" pen and crept along the floors, following the music. At last, once he was close, his cheeks flushed a gentle hue of pink, occurring from anxiety. His eyes sneaking around the corner, unsure of what he'll see, his heart pounding a million times a second.

The European male, his bangs falling to cover one of his eyes, he shifted uncomfortably and poked his head out from behind the door, the rest of his body covered.

Oh, phew. It's just a girl. Maybe I should make a fragile approach, so as to not scare her? Maybe..

Kon sighed, and stared at the girl for the longest time before gaping his mouth to speak.

"Hello."

Fauna was still singing the final notes unaware of the boy behind her until a single voice broke through the hush at the end of the song. Fauna's eyes widened and she quickly turned around only to stagger back. Thankfully, she was close to a table. Her hands had found it first before falling against it. She was breathing quickly out of the adrenaline rush and looked up at the boy.

Her face began to tint a soft pink. 'A guy has walked in on you SINGING and DANCING! Nice going Fauna...' "H-hello..." She stammered out. She didn't know what else to say nor do. Should she just accept the fact that she had been caught, or should she take the 'emergency' exit. The 'emergency' exit is an exit in each room that Fauna has made. In this one, the window was always open and that was the exit.

Fauna was about to make her escape but hesitated slightly when she saw the notepad and pen in the boys hands. Could it be possible? No, people haven't used paper in decades. Now there's usually holograms and computer screens, touch pads much like the gadget Fauna uses to list to except much larger and they certainly aren't used for drawing. The lawbreakers were still thankful that they still sold some in stores but is gradually being banned from stores. Hopefully it hasn't here yet.

Fauna looked at the pen a bit closer. If this boy was exactly who she thought he was then she would probably be the happiest person ever. To finally have someone to actually talk to, normally. "I-I" She sputters. Her tongue not finding the words to say until she finally sputters out, "I'm Fauna." she says in a quite tone. Fauna mentally cursed herself for not finding the right words to say.

'Great. Now the mysterious guy knows your name... Perfect... Well there's always the exit.' She thinks as she waits for the boy to make a move or do something.

((Your fine :))

Avia wrapped her arms around her body. She didn't want anyone to notice that she had a flute in her pocket. She had to find somewhere to practice the flute.

Avia recently took up the flute when she realized she needed a transportable instrument. You can't really carry around a piano or a violin without an official seeing you. They are too noticeable. Avia has a piano at home, deep inside the wall in her basement, used for emergencies only. And when no one within a 15 mile radius is around, which wouldn't be often.

Avia was walking quickly through the streets, until she was on the outskirts of the city. Then she turned. Then, she opened a door at the end of the alleyway.

She found this place when she was running from some city cops. She was quite nimble, being tiny. They chased her to the edge of the city, but since they couldn't leave, they just gave up. Avia had ran into the first door that was unlocked and noticed that it was deserted and unoccupied.

I'll come here one day, she thought. I'll play an instrument here. And behold, the time has come.

When Avia walked through the door, though, she noticed that the room wasn't empty. She quickly put her flute back into her coat and looked at the two people standing in front of her.

"Come on now, you don't have to freak out." Konstantyn chuckled lightly and hopped out from behind the door, his hands flying to behind his back as he skipped towards the female, a silly grin plastered onto his pale features.

"I heard you from far away, since I was drawing on a windowsill a couple of doors down. You sing very beautifully!" He stepped closer to the female, setting his notepad down gently on a neighboring table. He grabbed her hand delicately and shook it. "My name's Konstantyn! Feel free to call me Kon. Glad to know I'm not the only one who likes this place."

The male's grin turning into a sly smirk, he backed away and crouched down next to a cabinet, opening it slowly and rummaging through the things. He remembered he kept a music holder in here, like an enhanced mp3 player..

"So, Fauna, what do you want to be?" He asked while frantically searching, getting more impatient by the minute. Finally, he found it and sighed, turning it in and putting in the earbuds. The male used his pale fingers to navigate where he was going on the pad, and he soon came to a song he loved called "Sadistic Vampire".

Putting the volume a bit low so he could hear the female, he leaned against the table, next to her, a curious and amused glint in his red eyes, that is until another female walked in.

"Hello there!" He called, waving, playfully pressing two fingers to his lips and making a kissy motion to both of the girls, since of course, he loved to tease and mess with people.

As Kodi doodled away, she did some finishing touches at her majestic eagle, soaring through the air, through the clouds. On that thought, Kodi leaned her head back and looked up at the sky. No birds, hardly any sunshine, but some ominous clouds. Her green eyes would've been bright and lively, but scince the sky was dark, her eyes are now dark green and greyish. She shut her notepad and set her head on her skinny arms, which were wrapped around her knees. She thought about her family and her future. 'Would it be gloomy like today? Or would it be all lively again? Would my sister go through this? Would my family too?' These questions raced in her head, like a racefield. Kodi's world seemed depressing. She mostly felt like a vampire. She lifted her head and revealed a red mark on her forehead, traveling down to her chin. She closed her eyes and sighed. She lifted her notepad and flipped to a fresh page, drawing her dream's.

Avia stopped in her tracks. She thought she was the only one who knew about this place. Then again, it was a big city. Anyone could use a secret room.

"What are you doing here?" she said, a little too rudely than she intended to. She knew it was safe to take out her musical instrument, so she took off her coat, revealing her flute, and placed it on the table that the boy was utilizing.

She noticed the boy's music player. "What is that? How are you able to have that?" she asked, jealous because her's got taken away a few days ago.

"Oh, my name is Avia, by the way."

"If I die young, bury me in satin, lay me down on a bed of roses, sink me in the river, at dawn, send me away with the words of a love song ~" Saylee sang softly, strumming the acoustic guitar delicately. She sat at a lake just a few minutes from her apartment, her feet hanging over the edge as the tips of her trainers skimmed the water's surface. The ripples they made in the water gave her face the appearance of being disorted.

This was Saylee's favourite spot in the whole of Nyukami City - away from all the hustle and bustle, where no one bothered to venture, and so it was the perfect spot for her to play her music. She had been coming here for years, her and her family, as they used to always go on picnic's under the big oak tree, and in the Fall they would make leaf piles to jump into. That changed after her father died, of course. Her family didn't touch this spot for weeks, but Saylee finally managed the nerve to come back, knowing it was the most private place she could find. But no one else would come after her.

It was also a good place for her photography. Saylee had always loved pictures, even as a child, especially old fashioned ones. She had of course never seen the black and white and sepia photographs, but the thought of them had always intrigued her. Which was why she sat by the lake, guitar in hand and old-fashioned camera strewn out beside her, a plate full of assorted foods beside her.

She grabbed her sandwich, taking a bite of the ham filling before packing up her stuff. She brought a giant bag with her anywhere to fit her guitar, in a secret pouch at the bottom. She had never been caught before, but she had heard of people being asked to searrch their bags. Better safe than sorry.

Saylee hopped up as the sun set over the lake, giving the lake a pink colour and the sky a majestic glow. The candy cotton clouds let the last of the sun's rays seep through before it slept for the night, and Saylee couldn't help but take a snapshot. It was too beautiful not to.

She started on her way home, taking a long route around as she was in no hurry. She hadn't actually taken this route before, all she knew was that is passed the cafe her mother loved to visit and the old abandoned art school. Mother actually said she enjoyed the cafe because it took a while for the food to be ready. She said when she was a child, it took quite a while for food to be prepared, and she hated all the changes in the world.

Saylee was just passing the aforementioned art school when a beautiful song hit her ears, the sound of a female voice. She satrted singing along instantly, out of habit, before realizing what she had done. She slammed her mouth shut in an instant, biting her tongue in the process. She squinted her eyes to stop the tears that threatened to spill. But where was that voice coming from?

"-lo"
Saylee froze. Definitely male, and definitely coming from the school. She cautiously approached it, peering over one of the windows, which had a crack running through it. The girl was stuttering in surprise. "I would be, too," Saylee thought. "If I had been caught singing." "I'm Fauna," the girl finally lets out, her fear and nervousness, yet something that sounded almost like hope noticable in her voice.

Saylee stood up, though she probably wouldn't be noticed yet, even so, as she was quite small, being only thirteen. She might as well show herself. What had she got to lose. A whole damn lot, she thought to herself, as she entered the building. "Um, hi," Saylee said, a shy smile forming across her lips, showing her dimples.

Her eyes widened in curiosity at the paper in the boy's hands. She had never been good around strangers, but what if they were like her? It would make sense, the 'rebels' as Saylee liked to call them meeting up in secluded building. It would also explain why the girl was singing. Meet, Saylee thought, mentally laughing. Meet was Irish slang for shift, which was again Irish slang for something along the lines of a 'french kiss.' Old words, of course. But Saylee was a curious grl, and knew more abiut History than her teacher did.

Fauna was dumb struck. So there was a person who she could talk to. "Oh, I'm not to sure what I want to be. You know with the laws and such I can't really be a music writer or a singer nor an artist..." She said gloomily just as another girl walked in. She stayed silent until the girl had taken out a small flute. "Hello, I'm Fauna." She says with delight, ignoring the boys motions, her eyes were handled on the flute.

"So everyone here likes music huh?" She chuckles and turned to the girl. She had lost all bashfulness in her attitude and was now gaining excitement. She perked up and suddenly said. "Hey, I know a room full of instruments... While I was exploring, I just so happened to stumble through the door and to my astonishment, a huge, glistening, black piano was in front of me. I was also even more surprised that more instruments lay scattered everywhere on the floor." She says as she remembers that day. "This place just has everything!" She says. "Oh, and I also have found a great pond not to far from here. I think it's about 20 minutes away or so..." She says stopping a moment to calculate the time it takes to get there on foot.

Just thin a small voice could be heard through the small silence. Fauna turns around only to see a small girl. Wow, this place is full of surprises. "Oh, Hello..." Fauna says in a soft tone.

Avia just watched on the sidelines until there was somewhere she could break in. She didn't know that other people knew about her secret place, so she was really surprised.

"Did you really? There's more doors here? This must be a room that enters into the outdoors, because I came from outside," Avia said matter-of-factly.

Avia started cleaning her flute, getting ready to play a song.

"I heard you singing earlier and noticed that you had a gorgeous voice. Do you mind accompaning me? I've never had someone do that before," she said. The only time she heard singing was her own and that was when she was whispering in the shower.

Avia then turned to the boy. "Hey, I asked you a question," she said, tapping him on the shoulder.

Saylee stood their awkwardly for a moment as everyone conversed around her. "-I know a room full of instruments," she heard the girl who had introduced herself as Fauna say. Saylee's eyes lit up. Instruments? A whole room full of them, just waiting to be played.

"Oh, Hello..." Saylee glanced up at the girl who had said it. Fauna again. "Hi," Saylee said. "I'm Saylee. Saylee Tandy, actually. And I heard your singing, you wre really good." She dumped her bag on the floor, crouching down beside it as she ruffled through it. "And what was that room of instruments you were talking about? And good job to finding this place. I wouldn't have heard you if I hadn't decided to take a long route, and I don't know why the rest of these b*tches are here," she said it all casually, not meaning to be insulting at the word b*tch, it was almost like a habit.

She took out her guitar, lying it on the ground beside her, but not before showing it to Fauna. "I play guitar," she said matter-of-factly. She was vaguely aware of the fact she was babbling, but she didn't give a damn. "Ah, here we go..." she mumured as she tugged out what she was looking for.

"Snap!" Saylee squealed as she clicked the camera, the flash blinding her eyes but giving her a picture of Fauna as a result. "What do you think?" she asked, holding it up to show Fauna. She had purposely done it at an angle so the light wouldn't blind the caera, but it still illuminated Fauna's face. She knew that Fauna woldn't notice, though. You would only tell if you actually knew quite a bit about photography, which she doubted Fauna did. That was one of the things she loved about photography, they made it look so damn easy.

Anaee had remembered once before that her old, great grandmother had told amazing stories of men that history had once forgotten long ago. Men that had once used just their hands to build brilliant, detailed and beautiful things; Anaee's eyes closed as she remember the stories that had spoke from the old woman's mouth. Her great grandmother had always been there for Anaee and she loved that rickety old woman that would tell crazy stories; her father would always detest them and then start to lecture and yell at the old woman for telling such illegal and ridicules stories. Anaee got up, dropping the cat as she walked towards the small bag in the corner of the small area in the warehouse; opening it, she pulled out a dirty rag and small hand mirror that looked extremely high class and expensive, also pulling out a water bottle made of what seemed to look similar to chrome. She poured the water onto the rag and wet it, looking in the mirror as she started to scrub the paint off of her; as she did, Anaee's skin became a cherry color.

This was the part that Anaee had hated, it seemed like it takes forever to scrub the paint off of her. After what seemed like thirty minutes, she had finally gotten the paint off of her skin, blotchy red patches showing that it took her some time to scrub. Anaee's head tilted upwards as she looked at the crusty paint in her hair, combing them out with her wet fingers; once again, it took some time but she got most of it off of her hair. Whatever was left, was unnoticeable unless someone where to concentrate incredibly hard on her hair. Anaee shuffled off her shirt and pants before pulling on a high class dress that squeezed her uncomfortably; she hated the dresses that her family had made her wear, they where extremely tight and itchy. She flipped her head downwards before back up, trying to control her wild red hair. Finally, Anaee was ready to walk outside to roam around the area, looking like she was extremely high class; her hair was pinned up, and she wore a classic dress that many of the women here wore. She shuffled on the shoes and placed everything in her bag, flipping it over her shoulder so it looked like a large purse instead of something carrying paint, brushes, and a change of clothes.

Tabby looked up at her, before licking his front paw. "I'll be back later." She smiled, placing her hand on the cat. "You can have the rest of my sandwich." And with that, Anaee turned towards the entrance, dodging the blocking walls and jumping over the pipes, running out of the abandoned warehouse with extreme cautious. Anaee ran towards the market, stumbling and tripping, but managing to keep her balance; anyone could tell that Anaee couldn't walked in the shoes, but it seemed that she was used to it. Once she had arrived at the market, she stopped her pace for a second to catch her breath. Anaee couldn't help but to let out a slight smile, bringing color to her cheeks as she thought to herself that after five years, she still hasn't gotten used to running or walking in the shoes her parents provided to wear. In her warehouse, she was able to walk around barefooted or in some socks, but here, she was required to wear the shoes her parents or society (whatever seems to float your boats) gave her.

Anaee started to walk again; her stance was steady, but her feet was a bit wobbly. Before she could start window shopping, her eyes stumbled upon a boy falling back on his butt, making her both jump, and perk a slight smile to her face. The people around her had started to chuckle at the boy, before turning to resume their business. Anaee couldn't help but to keep staring, the guy's face turning to a shade of red that would match her hair. Anaee's feet moved on their own as she started to walk near to boy, but she stopped instantly as she saw another person walking up to the guy. The boy had black hair and blue eyes that looked as if they could kill someone if the boy decided to glare down at a person, which only made her stomach churn thinking about it. She gave a slight swallow before continuing her way to the boy who had fallen.

The boy who had fallen had blonde hair and was a bit thin. Anaee had to admit that the young boy looked just as beautiful as her elder sister, but at the same time, anyone could see he was guy. It wasn't long when Anaee reached the boy, standing right behind him, swallowing once before she squeaked, "Are you alright?" She gave a nervous smile before her eyes beamed towards the other boy, who from what she had thought, came over to help the fallen person as well.

~Pan~

Pan artfully flicked her wrist, which held the can of red spray paint, causing a Maroon streak to appear under the tag, her pseudonym. Clio. The Greek mythological muse of History. Which was what she was doing. Making history, in her own small way. Pan smiled. Usually, her art would be washed off the buildings she used as canvases. However, it seems that she had hit the "jackpot", so to speak. An abandoned art school, which she had stumbled upon earlier. Perfect. Her art would last longer than usual. Standing back and gazing at the thorny black rose she'd manifested on the wall using the spray paint, Pan wistfully wondered just how long it would remain-

Voices. Both feminine and masculine. Her curiosity piqued, she replaced the spray paint cans back in her black messenger bag and slung it over her shoulder. After straightening her fedora, she hopped into the building through one of the broken windows. Her knee-high black boots crunched on broken glass as she strode out the door of that room and into the hallway. She turned to the left and made her way towards the voices. She could tell they were discussing instruments. Interesting. Fellow non-conformist "Lawbreakers". A small smile played across her lips as she slipped into the room, where three girls and one boy were conversing. Boy, did Pan stick out, with her strange getup. Oh well. Better unique than invisible.

"Evening, fellow deviants," she said cooly, leaning against one of the aged walls.

In this very moment of his life, Erlin was indefinitely sure that the world really wanted him to die of embarrassment and humiliation. It only backed up his theory as he was getting his pride together to finally glance up, but being able to sense the presence of someone near by, he froze up again. He cursed himself for being slower than what catalysts do and their infuriating causes. Moving his eyes slowly from to the hand, then to what was in front of him - .. a pole. Joy. The day couldn't have gone any better. - then back to the hand. If it wasn't bad enough, "Are you alright?" A woman came by to what he could only assume, help him. He briefly glanced towards her: a small girl with an unruly amount of very red hair - it reminded him of fairies, but forced himself to stop thinking so he wouldn't get carried away - that generally fitted her image. She had a nice smile though, but he knew better than to trust the nervousness she held, as if in hesitation. He wasn't to be fooled.

No human had any single inch of genuine kindness and trust - because even if they did, they'd always somehow disappear through your hands, like grains of sand. All exteriors are not to be trusted for their interiors. The most important lesson in life that he had ever learned.

With carefully controlled expression, he softly held the out-reached hand, and felt himself being lifted back up on his feet, and muttering a, "thank you," in politeness, he dusted himself lightly off of imaginary dirt. Fully looking at the male who decided to help him, Erlin noted of the dark, inky like hair that contrasted with bright blue eyes, but he envied most was the strong built the - younger? Erlin wasn't too sure - boy had that easily showed, and it made himself look much smaller and girly than he'd like to think. He bit his lip in irritation as he suddenly became self-conscious of how thin he was in his clothes, the fabrics easily showed that. But then he twitched in an inconspicuous manner when he remembered that he hit a pole with his forehead head on, the pain that was to eventually dull brought his awareness of it to attention. He turned towards the girl, who he noted was well-dressed for a passerby, and secretly wondered if he should stop it with the fairy thoughts - because the girl looked exactly like the paintings of his childhood's 'before'. Erlin ignored how his fingers made another slight twitch in a urgent want to get to some computer coding programming device, pronto. He should find a way to stop his fidgety habits.

"Thank you for asking, but I'm perfectly fine.." He quietly spoke, seeing as he didn't often. Placing his fingers onto his forehead after pulled his fringe back again, for any irregular bumps that have appeared, completely aware that it was sure to have swelled by now - it felt warm to the touch and slightly stung. He should go find medication later - he just knew that this one was going to haunt him by becoming the greatest pain in his brain of the century.

He kept staring at the female, as if in analyzing and observing some strange thing that he didn't know of or understand. There was something off about her, he could feel it in his gut; he just didn't know what it was just yet. Perhaps it was the crazy talking. He certainly felt as if he was beginning to tip off his usual mind set as of lately. The headache and bump didn't help. The blond boy glanced back to the darker haired one, maintaining that quiet voice, like he was some ghost. "I apologize for you having to go out of your way to help me," he spoke it like he had rehearsed many times - to which he had. "But I do hope that you did not feel troubled by doing so."

Keeping a tight, polite smile that severely contrasted with his previous blank one, despite how his eyes didn't seem to go along in sync with his facial expression, he wasn't very willing to staying around any longer and becoming completely socially impaired, so he bowed slightly, and then was ready to turn to set off as fast as he could for a stick like him, completely aware that he will be going in the opposite direction. He should probably go lock himself in his room to try to live down the embarrassment, or for the rest of his life for having to run into a pole. Either sounded appealing at the moment.

"Now, if you'd please excuse me.. "

"Hello, fellow deviants," said a voice behind Avia. Avia jumped and turned. A girl with strange clothing on was leaning against the doorway.

'How many people knew about this place?' Avia wondered. She didn't acknowledge the girls presence. She just started playing her flute, waiting for Fauna to start singing from wherever she knew.

Avia started playing the tune to "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson, hoping someone would chime in.

Fauna

Fauna was about to reply to Saylee when yet another voice breaks through. She turns her head and sees a girl with a spray paint can. "Oh, more guests, haha!" She clapped happily. "Why hello there! I'm Fauna!" She greets before turning to Avia. "I would love to accompany you. Hey! Maybe I can show you all where the instrument room is." She says.

She then becomes serious. "Hey does anyone here know what time it is?" She says as she remembers her parents saying she was supposed to be there in an hour and she doesn't want to show up late and end up on her mom's bad side. God have mercy on Fauna's soul for letting her survive it at least once.

Fauna then perked up and looked at the photo. "Oh! What a wonderful picture. So, I'm guessing your going to be a photographer when you grow up huh? And by the looks of it, a great one at that." She says before looking over the group and hearing a familiar melody. "Oh, I love this song!' She says before singing the lyrics.

You know the bed feels warmer
Sleeping here alone
You know I dream in color
And do the things I want

She starts the first verse.

((Bit short. Gee, everything is happening at once!))

"Pshh. Sorry, man. I zoned out. What did you ask me?"

Blinking and fluttering his eyelashes, he giggled. "Nevermind, I remember. I got this 'cause, well, I kinda forgot, but I remember gettin' it from my older brother when I was 5 and, well, I was the one who messed with the wires and stuff so I will be able to download music."

Feeling like a sore thumb in a crowd, he pouted, his bottom lip sticking out. "Aww, I'm the only guy. I'm surrounded by a bunch of girls. They're cute, on the bright side, and seem nice.~"

That is, until he started squeeing like a small fangirl at the sight of a very small girl, at the most, estimated between 11-13. He honestly didn't know. "You're so cute! You remind me like, of like, a little kindergarten! You're Saylee, right? You said your name before I dozed off into space. May I call you Lee? Or Say-Say?"

The male's sharp and blood red gaze quickly shifted to Fauna. "I love singing, though, better than listening to music. Though drawing is probably my top favorite."

He glanced at his shirt and groaned. "Crap. Jumping around and stuff makes this shirt fall off my shoulders. God, my brother barely gets me my right sizes. He's such a stupid idiot, playing with his toys, tinkering with his stupid crap..you know, I'm surprised he hasn't even created robotic shit."

Growling and muttering to himself, he crawled into a chair and sat with his legs to his chest, pulling up his sagging shirt, and glaring at the floor as if it was something he hated. The male scowled, twirling a piece of his blonde hair. "Next time, I swear, when he gets in my face, I'll rip that stupid adult a new one..I'll slap the smart off his damn face and tell him to go kiss Albert Einstein. That's all I hear, all day. 'Einstein did this' or 'Einstein did that'. I swear, I'm getting tired of it, and I'm tired of him trying to pressure me into studying astronomy and doing aerospace engineering. Sure, stars are pretty and stuff, but no. I want to be a songwriter. I want to be an artist. I want to like, get on a stage and sing like little cute shotas on those anime shows, even though that's probably not even going to happen. I miss the TV. I used to watch it in a secret shed I had, but of course, I accidentally spilled my water all over it and it died and exploded."

Jumping up and landing onto the ground with a thump, his fist pumped into the air and he had a sly grin. "Yes! I know!" Running off rather too girly than he liked, he poked his head into a closet and pulled out a whiteboard with a marker. Jogging back, he dove into a seat near the table, his tongue poking out of his mouth in thought.

"Yes! That shall be the name of my band when time progresses and all these stupid laws go away! It shall be Sadist Fangs! Oh oh! Maybe, like, Sadistic Chimera, or a cool mythological creature. YES!"

When he had something written down, he threw it up into the air, and well, accidentally tore it in half. "Awww..." Slouching, his blonde hair tangled infront of his eyes. "Life sucks."

Konstantyn pressed a button on his wristband and the magnifier appeared infront of his left eye. "I hear something."

Poking his head out of a window, he gazed around, and saw suspicious rustling. If he magnified closer, he could see a bunny. "Aww, well hi there you little cutie! Have fun in the little forest, cute rascal!"

Turning around on his heel, his cheeks with a lingering hue of blush, pounded his hands down onto the table and laughed. "Stronger? Kelly Clarkson is hot, if I may say so myself. Oooh! Hello there, fellow lawbreaker!"

Fauna was mystified at what Kon had said. She stopped singing. "Ha! I know right. My parents wanted me to become a doctor! A DOCTOR! My parents say it will be fun. Since when is cutting someone open fun!" She rambles on until Kon's magnifier appeared. "Awesome. At first I thought it was some funky watch or something!" She giggle and turns to Avia and begins sing the second verse.

You think you've got the best of me
Think you've had enough the last laugh
Bet you think that everything good is gone
Think you left me broken down
Think that I'd come running back
Baby, you don't know me, 'cause you're dead wrong

She stops and looks over the small group. Finally people she could finally speak to... To actually share things with like art instead of math. People who could comment on her songs and to give idea's to her poems. This was the moment where she finally felt like she fit in.

#, as written by Koda
Kodi got a bit bored from sitting on the cold cement she'd been sitting for about 1 hour, if not 30 minuites, drawing. She finished her eagle drawing, but scince she just recently started her other drawing, of her dreams, she was almost done with it. The drawing was almost a clearing, a river right dead in the middle, with the cleanest water ever. There were eagles flying above a herd of white tail deer running peacefully. The clouds above the birds were as white as the pillows or white cotton candy. The earth was more of how it was meant to be. Kodi called it Yellowstone. She had researched it once on a hidden website, and to Kodi, it seemed like heaven.

Kodi looked at the the drawing and felt a painful feeling in her heart, 'I wish other's can see this.. maybe if they take a good look at it, they could see that drawing can show people's feelings, love and bealifs. Just maybe they could bring back art and singing, and dancing!' Kodi pushed the thought away, or else she would get overwhelmed and get a major anxiety attack. Yawning, Kodi stood up and grasped her notebook. She walked toward the abandoned school, she was walking there because she was wondering if anything useful was in there. Or maybe it would be better then sitting outside.

Arriving at the school, Kodi entered through the door that had a hole in it. Kodi looked and smiled as she looked over at the posters in amazment. As she continued walking, she stumbled upon a class of students. She looked at the teacher then at the students. Her cheeks flushed pink in embarrasment. She wanted the earth to swallow her. She thought it was rude to leave, so she decided to at least stay. "Sorry for interuppting.. I was just wondering about.. i'm sorry." She tried her best to seem small, and looked down in shame.

Re: Expressing Yourself

Ahaha, decisions, decisions, decisions. XDD Take your time, :3 I'm sure either way the post will be good. :P

Re: Expressing Yourself

No, I like how she is so persistent. But I'm unsure as to what to make Erlin do here in this situation. One way he could go by being unable to say no due to the inability to understand how to interact with people, but then in that sense, he'd try to refuse her, but the pleading look would make him think otherwise. Gah. ._.

Re: Expressing Yourself

I'm sorry, would you like me to edit it a bit? Aha, I wouldn't mind if you wanted me too. :P

Re: Expressing Yourself

Ah.. I'm not sure as to what to make Erlin do without making him seem out of character. ._. Anaee's so persistent.

Re: Expressing Yourself

I edited my post a bit. :P

Re: Expressing Yourself

Sounds like a plan you two! (B^D

Re: Expressing Yourself

Hm, I guess your right. :P We shall wait until we bring Erlin out of his shell. We will attack at dawn! >:{D Ready your horses men! xP Alright, then, I will have Anaee to try to make friends and bump into people I guess. Though, I won't rush it. :3

Re: Expressing Yourself

On Erlin catching Anaee painting or something in the means - it could happen, but Erlin is made as character who isn't easy to befriend, what with his lack of understanding of how to interact with others. I'd give it some time, he's going through a shift in where he really belongs, as his law-breaking activities are only really starting now..
Well, if you do want to go that way, just figure out how to actually get him to be able to see Anaee painting/etc., the sympathy and the beginning of the change of heart will eventually come after he's stuck between whether or not to report her. [o w o];;

I think that if they all keep bumping into each other, a good three-way friendship will develop.. But they don't really have anything solid to keep them tied together, other than that they have some sort of connection to law-breaking, y'know?

We shouldn't be too hasty to get to the action too fast, or it won't develop properly and will get to the climax too premature. But, if you don't want it to drag out for too long.. Perhaps the government begins to search the city in order to "cleanse" it of anything "unnecessary" that they may have missed? It does exert a more heavy and timely issue onto the more law-breaker status established characters in this sense, but it could also cut off opportunities to fully establish relationships and friendships between all the characters, and for more reluctant characters like Erlin, he could shut off early and just side with the Regulars, more or less. But it could also make characters like Avastir more likely to decide on finally doing something about the gov'; so it would be a good idea in the future? Just my suggestion on the matter, though. o: .. I think I thought too much on it, though.

Re: Expressing Yourself

She could. But since you haven't made any 'real' friendships with the characters then they would probably disregard it. Unless, of course, Erlin has a change of heart and stands up for you. Maybe Avastir could probably stand up to them as well. I'm trying to make it seem like he is gritting his teeth as he watches the laws and the people disregarding 'useless knowledge'.

Idk, maybe Erlin could catch her painting or something in that means...

Re: Expressing Yourself

True. :P Hmm, maybe Anaee's next post, she could get founded out? I don't know, ahaha, do you have any ideas? :3

Re: Expressing Yourself

Hmm, well it all can't be sunshine and rainbows. There has to be some action here and there to make it good and of course romance. <3

Re: Expressing Yourself

I agree, I really liked that post. :D Though, I have to admit, I feel bad for the boy. ;^; It must've hurt when he got punched in the jaw~ :\
Ahaha, I'm glad you like her~ XDD

Re: Expressing Yourself

Haha, well, it was sincere. And yupp, that feeling is almost as evil as the feeling of procrastination is.
It is a bit scattered, but I think that it creates a better effect on what the post was trying to achieve. And achieve it did. :D

. . . You know, just going off topic: I think that somehow, in the midst of this, Erlin has somehow developed a majorly and oblivious crush on Anaee. ._. I just can't seem to shake off that feeling.

Re: Expressing Yourself

Well, I'm glad you think that way. I did this in practically middle of the night so I continued to lose my thought process in almost every other paragraph, haha. We all know what that feels like.

Re: Expressing Yourself

.. So, uh. Breaking up any awkwardness here.. I suppose.
Just wanted to say that, storm, your most recent post had a really great impact on me to how this roleplay's backstory is truly in dire and serious atmosphere. Bravo, good sir, bravo. * - * It was very well written and really helps back up just how seriously this society shuns the idea of anything that is non-profitable to science and (attaining useful) knowledge itself.

Re: Expressing Yourself

That's a great idea. Certainly a plot twist. :) Also, sorry if my posts are coming in a little slow. Life has been hectic. Anyways, I probably won't have the time to post today. I'll try tomorrow though.

Re: Expressing Yourself

I'm seriously considering having Pan captured at some point, most likely told on by her sister, who will most likely find out sometime.

aaaaand.... 15

Re: Expressing Yourself

Hmm... I'd say about 15 or 16 since I'm 14 myself. C:

It will probably be soon. You all can control the police yourselves. It all just depends on how the role play starts coming along.

Re: Expressing Yourself

Wow.. It's so.. quiet. ._. So, uh. Any idea how we'll all generally head towards the direction where some'll get get caught and all'll eventually share the same ideal of having the world the way was once was, or otherwise? o - o

Conversation material! :D I agree with Twisted, I'd say that you're around 14 too, Grumpy. :D 15, to be on the safe side. o u o;;

Re: Expressing Yourself

@Grumpy-Converse,
I say 14. :P

@stormwolf321,
I don't mean to bother you, but me and reveries had a post that included your character. Sorry if it bothers you, I just thought that if you didn't see it, it would be alright for me to tell you. Of course if you wanted to wait on replying to it, then that's fine too. :P Sorry once again if I'm bothering you about it. ^-^;
