Biography:
Scruffy has been loosing family and friends ever since she was born. Her mother died while giving birth to her. Her father took her home for a few days, cared for her, then dropped her off at an orphanage. There she grew up her first four years. She was adopted on her fourth birthday and very excited to go meet her new family. They turned out to be worse then her father. Their older son who was fifteen bullied her constantly. For two years she put up with this until she had enough and kicked him so hard he laid in the hospital for three days. They send her back.

A few months passed and another family came to adopt her. She was quiet then. They send her to school where, again, she was bullied by the students and even by some teachers. She let it come over her, creating a shell around her of ignorance. Then, one day, a teacher humiliated her in front of the class room. She threw a book at his head, knocking him unconscious and left the school a few minutes later. Her adoptive family took care of her. Then there was the car crash. She was seven and the only one who survives. The police send her back to the orphanage.

Two years passed. Two families in those years got either murdered by a murderer or killed in a car crash. At the age of ten, she ran away from the orphanage and ended up deep in the woods. Though the woods of Austria were not exactly dangerous, surviving there was not easy. Three weeks later she was found high up the mountains in a cave, shaking and shivering. The police officer who found her took her home and cared for her. He was kind and made sure she was alright, but she never talked to him. For five years she lived with him, never saying a word.

Winter. The day she turned fifteen. As she sat in a shadowy corner waiting for the family of the police officer to arrive, she at once blended into the shadows. She had no control of this. The officer saw it and grew pale. He brought her to the office, where she was taken away to the Facility, where she's been remaining for a few months now.

Scruffy felt her head throbbing. The lights were too bright and there was nothing she could do about it. She wanted to hide, hide in the darkest corner of the world and never appeare again. For a few months now, she’d been sitting in the same corner, rocking herself back and forth, slowly going insane – if she wasn’t already. She felt disorientated and sick.

Sounds. Voices, footsteps. They were all too loud. She never liked sound. The only sound she liked was the sound of music blasting in her ears. She enjoyed listening to music, but she had nothing to listen to but her own humming.

She hated the police officer. He took care of her for five years. He sung for her. He cooked for her, played with her and made sure she was alright. He was the only one keeping her from going into depression. When she was taken away, and he did nothing, she felt defeated. Completely defeated. She was alone. She had felt like no one cared for her any more. Everyone would only take advantage of her or bully her or ignore her. Her first adoptive family was the worst though. Scruffy hated them, all of them. They never stopped their son from bullying her. She was so proud he had been in the hospital for three days. Sadly she got send away. And now she was here, rocking herself back and forth, trying to see the light, but it vanishing quickly. She was losing herself it seemed.

'Stop talking,' she thought. Scruffy covered her ears as best as she could in the hope to block out the voices. Her head was full of them, telling her how worthless she was.

"You are so worthless." Scruffy continued covering her ears as she talked to herself, quietly. "There’s nothing left for you. Everyone thinks you are worthless. No one loves you. Everyone hates you. We should show them how powerful you are…"

She shook her head and closed her eyes tight. The light inside her died out and she was covered in darkness. Tears streamed quietly down her face as she tried to find the light in the darkness surrounding her. "I just want to go home... Is that too much to ask for..?"

Scruffy wiped her tears away. “We are not weak,” she told herself and the voices in her head. She started humming, a song she remembered from the boy that bullied her in the first family. He always hummed and sung the song as he laid in bed. They shared a room, she laid on the upper bed, he in the lower. He would keep singing until late at night, keeping her awake until she managed to fall asleep because she was too tired to stay awake. This song haunted her until this day, still. Something about it made her to remember it at all times. She felt strong, humming this song, comfortable and less alone. As the voices in her head continued blaming her for everything that happened, she kept on humming.

In the mean while, she observed her cell for any mistakes that could lead to her escape from this place. She had escaped before, the orphanage. Not many had managed to do that, she had, ended up in the best place she had ever been. And now she was stuck again, as if she was an animal. Scruffy was far from that. And she was not going to let her be treated like that.

She sighed and looked at the wall. She couldn’t figure it out. Why was she here? She had never been an actual threat to someone, and now she was kept as if she was one of the most dangerous people on Earth. She didn’t understand. Everything she knew is that it was because she vanished in the shadows of a home, and her caretaker took her to the police officer where she was handed over to the Facility.

She tested the wall with a knock. She started knocking on it harder and harder, just simply testing it. She wanted to get out, leave this place, never return again. Return to the forests in Austria. 'Let me out,' she thought. 'I'm going insane!'

Scruffy groaned as the light became a lot brighter. She sighed and gave up, quietly curling up on the ground. She had hardly moved the last few days and not eaten a lot either. She didn’t think it was worth to eat, she was going to die in this place anyways. The only thing she wanted was to make it as quick as possible. In the mean while, she would try to keep herself up and sane, though she already knew she was far from being sane. She knew it because of the voices in her head that kept telling her to die, kill someone or try to escape. They kept singing and humming in a strange and creepy way and there was nothing she could do about it.

‘‘Why can’t I die right now, right here? No one cares about me,’’ she whispered quietly to herself. Scruffy shivered and tried to find the reason why she was breathing, still. She missed school, she missed her ‘friends’. She missed certain teachers. She missed the police officer. How could he do that to her?

‘‘And what about dad? Where’s he and why did he drop me off by the orphanage? Wasn’t I good enough…’’ Tears started streaming down her face again as she remembered every horrible thing said to her, done to her. Her head was throbbing worse and she felt sick, as if she was about to throw up. She wasn’t used to being exposed to these circumstances. Scruffy felt no hope, and for a fifteen-year-old kid, that’s something horrible.

She had never felt this miserable and useless before, as if she just didn’t belong in this place whatsoever. Dying was the best option for now. Then, at least, she would be in peace and nothing would be able to hurt her anymore. No one would hurt her anymore. ‘My heart can be cold, but the hearts of people around me are colder than mine will ever be…’
