She grasped her back of equipment and began to walk out, under the eerie glow of the set-up floodlight, making her way out from the tent and towards the charred shells of buildings once passed. It was hard to beleive that the place had ever been inhabited, let along once been thriving business district with shops and offices. She grimacing in distaste as he foot went through what may have been someone's rib-cage at one point, though this close to the impact it had been scorched to carbon within seconds. A quick way to go at least, she mused as she continued to walk.
Crane had been drafted in to study the effects of the 'Influence'. It was indeed not something she had ever come across before. It appeared to take hold like a virus, altering the way the body manufactured proteins, she'd never seen anything quite like it, and she had seen a lot of strange things in her government work. It was even stranger as there was no hint of any sort of pathogen in blood or tissue samples, it just seemed like the bodies were changing by themselves. She wracked her brain as she walked. Radiation could do that...but never so exactly or neatly...
It was at that point that she caught sight of one, a flash of white in front of her feet. She lunged forwards, with a speed quite impressive for her age and grabbed in in her gloved hand, raising it up in triumph as it wriggled and emitted outraged squealing sounds. The creature appeared to be a rat, pure white in colour, its eyes emitting a blueish light. Its feet had gained very sharp, gold-hued talons, and out of its back issued four badly developed, misshapen-wing like protrustions, the feathers poking out at odd angles. She placed the furious rat into a small cage she was carrying, and fastened shut the lid.
"No need to look so cross." she muttered.
"You're one of the lucky ones, Rat...most of your brothers and sisters are dead already."
