Elarain

0 · 273 views · located in Magna

a character in “Fallen Wings”, as played by VitaminHeart

Description

Full name: Elarain Winterborn
Nicknames/Aliases: Elli, Elarain the Mad, The Dark Rider

Species: Human...at least she was born human. It's unclear what she has become.

Gender: Female

Age: 26

Occupation: Former Dragon Rider

Appearance: Elarain once appeared as a fair young human woman. She possessed long, blond hair and pale blue eyes, a trait shared down by the Winterborns, a norther lineage. She had been quite tall and evenly proportioned, training leading to a slender, agile figure suited to flying. She possessed a heart-shaped, somewhat immature face, with wide eyes and a short, round nose. All in all, Elarain had made for a fine 'poster child' for the Riders, seeming healthy, happy and unmarred by war.

That was a few years ago. Elarain now stands, not as a model of Rider training, but rather as an example of dire corruption. She tends to keep much of herself hidden beneath a ragged black cape, as if to some degree ashamed of what she'd done to herself. Her hair clings togther in thick, greasy strands down to her mid back, fronds hanging down into her face, standing out a sickly yellow against the pallid, greyish skin marked with heavy bruising and broken blood vessels. One blue eye remains, the other appears to be replaced with a deep yellow and black...resembling that of a dragon...though it appears to seep stained, blackish tears down her hollow cheeks. She has grafted somethign resembling a horn to one side of her head, though it remains brittle.

One hand and forearm has also been replaced with a disprotoptionate, claw-like hand, wreathed in scales and bony plates.

She appears almost emaciated and sickly, features seeming sunken and skin pulled tight, the price of years of practicing evil arts. It is not know what horrors she hides beneath the cloak and thick, ragged garments she wears.

Personality: Elarain had once been a kind, cheerful young woman. She had the virtue of kindness and sensitivity, and in many ways served as a yin to Auryn's yang, reigning in his enthusiasm with a healthy concern for the consequences. Her bond with Auryn was extremely strong, something that was ultimately her undoing.

At the time Auryn was lost, Elarain seemed to go into shock. She didn't move, she didn't talk, she didn't acknowledge anyone....and then she disappeared.

Some years along, and the former rider has descended into insanity. She has become fixated with reviving Auryn at any cost. Along with this obsession with bringing Auryn back caomes and obsession with dragons. She draws them, models them, even alters her own body to better resemble them. She is desperate to understand how exactly they work...though her fascination with the creatures does not mean she allows them any mercy.

Beyond this, Elarain is unstable, going through frequent mood-swings and being possessed with a very petty sense of revenge, taking out spiteful revenge, and exacting disproportionate punishments on her captives and underlings.

She seems to care little for herself, neglecting her own health to a great degree, to the point of using the harmful fleshcraft magic in order to carry out her work. She appears to no longer value herself...or anyone else.

Strengths: She has the strength of being incredibly tenacious, and seems to be altered to the point tht it takes an awful lot to kill her. She can use fleshcraft rituals to alter living things, making her dangerous when around any sort of animal, if given enough time to work a ritual. She also appears to have access to an enormous collection of minions that she contructed.

Weaknesses: Elarain's madness makes her tenacious, but it also makes her very erratic. She is quite capable of changing her mind in the middle of a plot, or forgetting her plans all together. She seems to retian little sense of logic and will often follow strategies that make no sense at all.

Along with the madness, her health is in continual decline, making her brittle and sickly, less effective in a direct fight.

Equipment: She carried a jagged looking knife of sorts beneath her cloak.

Abilities: After much years of study, Elarain has been able to gain the ability of fleshcraft. Through rituals and terrible works of stitching and primitive surgery, she is able to bond the parts of other creatures together to form twisted, horrenous abominations. She has applied these techniques to herself in order to patch up her own body, and it has made her incredibly hard to kill.

Brief history: Elarain came form a long line of riders. She was accepted into the order at an early age, and trained alonside the other riders. Her and Auryn bonded with one another very quickly, and performed well during training, going through the bonding ceremony with little problems.

They were present at the Great Battle. Auryn attempted to take out one of the generals, but was seperated off from the rest of the riders, pushed away to the side of the lake where he was killed with spears and blades as he struggled to protect Elarain.

Elarain disappeared after the battle, and was assumed dead...though as it turns out...she was not dead as they had assumed...though possibly that was not for the best.

Dragon Name: Auryn (Deceased)

Dragon Appearance: A large, lowland dragon with golden scale, 'Aur' meaning 'Gold' in the old tongue. He had large, entirely blue eyes and a thick purple wing membrane. A long plume of mottled feathers had run down his back and to his tail. The scales acted as a sort of natural armor, forming thick, bony plates across his chest and neck. Auryn had an elongated face, long, tufted ears, and two pairs of horns.

The dragon's legs had ended in large, expanded feet with wide-spread toes and thick, sturdy claws. He normally walked as a quadruped, though had been capable of raising himself onto his hindquaters for short periods.

Dragon Personality: Auryn had been quite a well-liked dragon amoung the fellowship. He was a very caring and affectionate sort, generally keen to look out for his kind, he was also a very brave and courageous fighter. Auryn had an extremely close bond with Elarain, his rider. Auryn had a great enthusiasm for battle...something that may have ultimately been hid undoing. So great was his desire to impress the elders that he overshot his own abilties, and paid the ultimate cost.

Breath: Auryn was able to breathe traditional flame.

So begins...

"You should be put to use."

A voice said next to his ears and Kowareta immediately stopped what he was doing to look around warily. Next to him, Ruby let out a dangerous growl as if she was seeing something she truly hated. Kowareta pressed the tip of his index finger to her lips, gave a clear gesture to the dragon that he needed her to be silent. Ruby glanced at her Rider and responded to his command by giving him a barely-noticeable nod. Kowareta smiled back and retracted his arm but not before giving her a pat on the head first. Ruby sighed and she settled in glaring at the shadow in hatred instead, her claws twitched dangerously like she was trying to suppress the urge to tear the things in the shadow apart, bits and pieces. Kowareta just looked at the shadow with mild interest, knowing who were in there already.

The figures stepped out of the shadow and Kowareta took a good look at both of them. Elarain - the depressed Rider who wished to return her dead dragon to life, what a hopeless cause, but she was also the one he obeyed and called Mistress. It was ironic, really...he, the one who was captured and tortured by the one he used to call 'friend', now was serving her like a loyal dog and became her personal killing machine and play toy. It was just simply too ironic. He let out a bark like laughter and his blonde hair covered his eyes, giving him the impression of a bitter man. But it did not matter if he served her or not, what mattered was...He paused in his thoughts and gave his dragon a quick glance, a gesture that could be easily missed as many things else but his Ruby did not miss it. She inclined her head and sent him her own thoughts. He smirked and turned his head away to gaze at the second person standing next to his Mistress, just several feet away from him. White hair, a girly face and the clothes he wore. Yes, it could not be mistaken. The man standing next to his Mistress was Kitherine - Elarain's blackguard. Who, in the past, had taken part in torturing him into this state of mind. But once again, this didn't matter. Not anymore. He grinned, if only he could take that dependent man to become one of his own.

Finished observing both of them, Kowareta shifted his weight a little bit, making the chains around his legs and arms creak. He waited until he was comfortable with his new position before he looked up. Ah, he forgot to answer Mistress' command. Giving Kitherine a calculated look, Kowareta forced himself to look at a different direction after a while. He cocked his head to one side and asked calmly, locking eyes with Elarain.

"How may your humble servant offer his service to you today, Mistress...?"

He spoke, his question was surprisingly polite and well-spoken considered the fact that he was mentally unstable. His gaze, once again settled in Kitherine's figure and he cocked his head to one side. The madness appeared in his eyes again and he looked at the dark creatures in front of him with an unflinching stare for he was also a part of the darkness now. He looked a his hands and snorted. Since when was the last time he considered himself a creature of justice? Must have been a long time ago because he couldn't remember the feeling of being a proud being anymore. At least, he didn't consider himself a being...he considered himself a creature, now...But it was fitting. Kowareta the Broken Wing, Kowareta the monster. Those tittles, they were more fitting for him than Kowareta the warrior of Pride now. His pride was destroyed by the ones that were standing in front of him.

Kowareta gritted his teeth slightly but quickly reminded himself that it did not matter anymore. He was sitting crossed-leg, leaning against the wall of torture chamber, the place that had quickly become his favorite after his mind had broken. Deciding that sitting was not the best position to greet his Mistress, Kowareta slowly pushed himself back up, almost fell several times in trying to do so. Finally, leaning himself against Ruby for support, Kowareta stood on his feet, a little unsteady. He gazed Elarain and with a quick gesture, almost like a puppet being cut from its strings, Kowareta dropped on an one-knee bow, his eyes glued to the ground, demonstrated a perfect salute. His right hand curled into a fist and touched the ground slightly while his left leg bended into a perfect 90 degree angle. His dragon saw that as a cue and stood up from her sitting position, her wings stretched slightly from their uncomfortable position. She gave them a short and curt nod, the hatred and anger never once left her face and if she could, she would be sneering at them right now. Unfortunately, she had to keep her act up. She snorted and turned her head away, the chains on her neck dragged on the ground, giving another clang as if they were trying to tell everyone that she was also being bounded to the darkness like how her Rider was being bounded to the same thing. Ruby almost gave another growl but managed to refrain herself from doing so at the last second. She stood behind her Rider, ready to protect him if the situation arised and gave him the support he depressedly needed right now in order to keep himself from falling apart.

Kowareta glanced at his dragon, slightly relieved that she hadn't lost her self-control yet. He looked at the Mistress and her bodyguard again before saying in his most polite and sane tone. If one didn't know him well, they might even say that he wasn't as mad as he appeared to be. But then again, it was a part of his deception. Sane or insane? Did that even matter? Because in the end, the result would still be the same. His enemies would still be dead at his feet and his body would be covered in blood so, again...he had to ask...why did it matter if he was insane or not? But if he had to choose, he would choose to be insane...Insanity would make him forget about the bad deeds that he had done...Kowareta nodded to himself. Alright, he was insane then. He wanted to be insane so he would be insane. Yeah, that was a logical answer...a good answer. The answer he needed.

"....greetings, Mistress...I welcome you to the tortured chamber...you are still just as lovely as I remember..."

Kowareta cocked his head to one side as he listened to Elarain's and Kitherine's conversation with mild interest. He didn't feel the need to concentrate on something so useless like that. He just wanted to cause pain and death now. He didn't even need a plan. Why couldn't he just go out there, grasp some random dragons and riders then come back to torture the Riders and cut up the dragons into pieces? He pouted, mostly to himself and turned away, didn't even bother to listen to them any longer. He was bored. He wanted to kill. Where were his play things? Kowareta looked around, trying to search for something which could be used to play with but found none and he crossed his hands childishly. This was no fun!

"You may forget the compliments Kowareta. Both of you are to listen. There are two new objectives that must be completed. We need more dragons. I cannot take this one, so we must take more riders. Kowareta can help. He is a rider. He can lure one to us. They would come out of a misguided sense of camaraderie in order to try and liberate him....however we would know of their approach and seize upon them as soon as they got anywhere near the fortress. Kowareta I will allow you to get a message out to Summit. You will beg for help. Plead for a rider to come and fetch you. Kitherine, I shall assign you my best creations to take the dragon when the time comes. Whether the rider lives or dies is unimportant to me. Perhaps it will give my plaything some company...or perhaps he will tear them apart in one of his less lucid moods. It matters not."

Elarain ordered and Kowareta looked at her immediately, paying attention closely to her words. Oh, a job? And seemed like a fun job, too. He grinned, his white teeth shone under the light, giving him a menace look but he didn't seem to notice. He had a job to do. Shrugging his shoulder nonchalantly, Ares said cheerfully "Your wish is my command, Mistress...I'll do what you order me to do..."

Patting Ruby, Kowareta asked joyfully "Right, Ruby dear?...". The dragon blinked her eyes and looked down before nodding slowly and reluctantly "Of course, Kowareta..." She frowned and looked away before thinking angrily 'It's not like I have any other choices in the matter anyway...' Turning her head, Ruby's eyes adopted a calculated look '...though this situation might not be so helpless after all...maybe I can take advantage of this and find a way to get out of here...' Ruby glanced down at Kowareta, who was, once again, poking at his wounds and giggling childishly every 10 seconds.

Kowareta grinned when he listened to Ruby's thoughts before popping his head up and down in agreement. He tapped his cheek with his index finger and asked again "when can we do our mission, Mistress?" He chuckled and said mostly to himself, his madness was visible in his voice "...can't wait to tear their flesh...tehehehe...I heard that the arms are the tastiest parts...tehehehe..."
