Introduction
The Future Earth
The year is 2145, the world a barren wasteland unbefitting for life and brutal for those that attempt to survive. Religion has fallen and technology long forgotten. What husks of such science exist are scraps and difficult to piece together--the information from the "golden age of success" having been lost when the world was laid to waste.
The Parallel Earth - Isallia
In an alternate, parallel world called Isallia, steam is power and king. All humans run on it, and perfection is the only important value. Though religion does not play any role, technology reigns supreme and science is held at the forefront of society. Intolerance falls upon "the flawed", the name given to those that have become influenced by "the mutation"--the result of a drug that had been taken to increase genius some generations previous.
Though having at first been regarded as an acceleration of science, it soon became clear that those effected became anything but perfect and were soon abhorred by society. A new law was passed upon society, making it mandatory to be tested at a young age. The results are subdivided by government officials and used for the Battle Royale, a gruesome match held every two years.
Democracy plays no role whatsoever in deciding who the rulers are, instead, the rulers draw lots from "the flawed" and choose a champion to represent them. It is a bloody death match and the representative of the victor is crowned the new ruling class. Those that are not cycled into lots and even the victors are hunted by pure steambots. This circle continues biannually and helps keep "the streets clean" of the flawed ones.
The Bridge Between Worlds
There is a darker purpose to this game, however, only part of the government is aware of it. For these two worlds, which are so very different, are parallel to one-another and exist in two alternate time-streams. Each person has an alternate version of themselves in the other world. However, the only way to successfully kill anyone in the steampunk world is to kill their twin in the apocalyptic one. So what better excuse than public death matches disguised as elections?
Though officials are aware, the team of scientists that make it all possible to create a bridge between the two worlds are not. They remain ignorant and unaware of the murder they propagate. And the government continues it's assassinations, getting rid of those that interfere in their workings and those that can act as a potential threat. The games are quite pleasing for the royals, as the mutations of the flawed allow them to possess abilities that are beyond normal scope of human capacity. And so the true purpose goes under the radar...
But not all flawed wish to live their lives constantly being picked off as prey, knowing that they will be killed whether or not they win. And despite what the ruling class may decree, flawed are most certainly capable of intelligent thought and begin to wise up to things. And perhaps it is time for that uprising, for the rumors of this parallel world have trickled down to them. To those with imperfections, this world acts as a beacon and a sanctuary, a relief from the constant hunting that they endure from the ruling class.
Though it is publicly deemed impossible to be able to communicate with alternate selves in the apocalyptic world, there are a few royals, perhaps even a scientist, that can do so. This communication is strictly forbidden and the government has worked hard to take out any royals that can do so. The scientists also wish to work to prevent this, since meeting one's alternate self for a prolonged period of time in either world will create a fissure in time space and make both worlds unstable. Not all scientists are as ignorant, for there are some that are really rogues planted by the government to oversee the happenings and hunt down any escapees during the death matches. As such, the time-space portal that allows one to commune from one world to another is heavily guarded and those that know how to make the object work are few in number. And in the middle of all this pandemonium is where our story begins...
Joint Ownership
While most of the concept did indeed come from me, I must give credit to my close friend MelodyAce for her contributions. As such, she is also to be treated as a secondary GM and will be in charge should I ever have to leave for an extended period of time.
Sample Writing
As you will see when you head over to the OOC threads, there is a thread designated for sample writing. I only want people who can contribute, and that means people who are used to writing. Therefore, I am asking for a written sample. This can be taken from another roleplay you've done, perhaps even a prologue post for your character. Whatever you decide, make sure you submit this with your character; otherwise, you shall be disregarded. For those that I privately invited to this roleplay, you can skip this step--I already know you guys can write.
Character Submission
In addition to sample writing, I would also like all character submissions to first be displayed in the corresponding thread in the OOC section. This is namely so that the roleplay can be organized and we can all see who we'll potentially be working with. This will also help me better address any issues (if there are any) with the character. For those that I have privately invited to this roleplay, you needn't go through this process and can skip ahead to actually submitting your character into me.
Skeleton Outline
Name (This can be any type of name you'd prefer, though it may be slightly for the best if they aren't strictly ordinary names like "Bob" and such. Choose wisely!)
Age (The physical appearance if the true number is something of a guess. Please note that "flawed" are younger due to the fact that many are killed off before they even reach 20 years old, only kept alive long enough to participate in the battle royale. For other roles, please keep ages realistic to your position.)
Gender (Female? Male? Or perhaps even an "it"? Just be sure to specify!)
Role (Simply state which part you shall be playing--whether it be flawed, scientist, or royal)
Appearance (An accompanying picture is naturally expected, however, if you opt to be without one, be sure to provide a thorough enough description so that the character has a firm appearance.)
Personality (Why not give us a better idea into the character's quirks, mannerisms, and general tone?)
Equipment (This is where it differs. For those that are "flawed", this will be your "abilities" section to describe what mutation your character has and what they can do. For "scientists", this is where you can list any tools or inventions that you have at your disposal. For the "royals", you are essentially human as are the scientists, so this will be your fighting prowess, if you have any. For everyone, you can include any accessories and whatnot that your character may possess.)
History (The biography and core of your character--importantIt is impossible for almost all characters to know what happened to them in the alternate world. For the most part, your character will not be aware of their other identity in the parallel world. I am willing to make one or two exceptions for this rule but bear in mind, you can't be "all-knowing". Otherwise, go wild~)
Positions
There are a total of 10 (~11) possible slots as follows:
Flawed
1. Taken by Igari ll Eiurin
2. Taken by MelodyAce ll Rakka
3. Taken by Qaida ll Quinn
4. Taken by Qaida ll Vier
5. Reserved for Fabricator
Scientists
1. Taken by Spica ll Astarte
2.
3. Taken by AceofSpade ll Charlie
Royals
1. Taken by Igari ll Liandre
2. Taken by Ezarael ll Luther
Note: The role of the royal is more challenging, since you will be accountable not only for your steampunk self but your alternate self as well. You will only control one at a time, however, but bear in mind you will have to switch, so please be prepared for when this happens. I have taken one Royal slot to give a demonstration of this but also be aware there is a reason the other self from the apocalyptic world is a flawed. In general, try to keep your other self human. If you take on this role, you have a choice of whether or not your character is aware that the one they converse with is their other self. Parallel selves can be very alike or dramatically different.
Specially Designed Roles
1. Taken by HansenetteHeart ll Orfhlaith
2. Taken by TheFinalOne ll Gargarin

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 11 authors
She looked at the boy with a looked of exasperation as he cheerfully greeted her, though before she could construct a reply the moment was broken by the sound of that irritating brat who was apparently ‘leading’ them to safety. Most likely another string of unconnected pointless insults aimed at them, though it appeared to be primarily aimed at Taran. Referring to him as a monk by the sounds of it? Though the exact details were somewhat lost till he turned to this ’Veir’ and asked her about him keeping something in his pants.
Eve couldn’t help but grin and chuckle darkly at his innocence and even more at the reaction it brought out in the girl in response to his question, clearly embarrassed at his confusion and the implication of their ‘leaders’ insult. Though further retrospection of events was cut short as the girl ahead of them impaled a guard through the throat with an excellent, even Eve had to concede that, throw of a knife. It was the only good point she’d managed to find about the girl since they’d managed to break out of the arena, maybe another good point would be found should they actually escape. The girl then ducked past the other guards and using a key that hung round her neck opened the doorway at the end of the corridor onto what appeared to be an lift, before resuming her hail of abuse for them to hurry up and cease getting be
As the rest of them reached the group of stunned guards guarding the lift, she watched as Taran muttered what appeared to be an apology to the boy he was carrying, though for what she couldn’t tell at first. He then launched himself towards several of the guards, stunning them and knocking them to the floor where they remained, and it was when she saw the grimaces of pain flashing across the wounded boy that she realised why he’d been applogising moments earlier, an attempt to make up for what he’d needed to do. An odd one certainly, this Taran, to still be considerate and simple after being held here?
Moments later, her embarrassment forgotten the girl named Vier following Taran’s lead and lept into the fray. Her arms trickling blood but with no real sign of injury, let alone one to have causes the amount that was passing between her fingertips. As Vier reached the first of the guards Eve saw that the blood had formed into blades within her grip, slashing and cutting a path through those that stood in her way. As soon as the girl had dodged the first slash for her stomach and left the assailant with a vicious strike across his features Eve reached upto grip the pair of swords she now wore on her back but changed her mind as she began to run towards the group. Slipping her fingers into the pockets of her clothes she withdrew half a dozen pebbles and such that she’d picked up in the arena. After holding them close for a heartbeat or two she flicked her fingers outwards, sending small pulsing red stones towards a number of those between her and this purposed freedom. The stones exploded inches away from their targets, sending sharp shards of stone spearing into the faces of those unfortunate enough to be looking in her direction and embedding themselves in others. A few of the shards were still fainting pulsing for a few seconds more before detonating a second time, some of which ripped flesh from bone where they’d managed to lodge themselves.
The hallway was filled with faint ripples of fire, screams and blood as she ducked under the horrified guards that remained standing and pulled the door to the lift shut behind her as hard as she could.
Once inside she turned to take stock of what was happening, noticing that the injured boy was now grumbling as he lay on the floor with Taran speaking to him and their leader seemed as agitated as ever while Vier looked to be concerned for the boy as well. Shaking her head she looked towards the other girl, and cocking her head slight spoke to her.
“So, whats this great escape plan then? Now that we’re all inside the lift.” She smiled softly and began twirling one of the throwing daggers she’d hung around her belt in her right hand.
