Fate of the Olmecs

Fate of the Olmecs

A group of students on Spring Break in Acapulco stumble upon an ancient mesoamerican power that does would prefer to remain undiscovered...

526 readers have visited Fate of the Olmecs since shmband created it.

Spring break, 2011. Acapulco, Mexico - in March with almost ten hours of bright sunshine a day, temperatures of 32 degrees centigrade, and some of the best beaches on the Pacific coast, no wonder it's one of the most popular Spring Break destinations. But this year a group of high school/college friends hear about an opportunity for a spring break with a difference; a chance to stay in a rustic hacienda called Casa Rosaria, nestled in the hills north of Kilómetro Treinta, 22km north-east of Acapulco city. And the price seems too good to be true.

When they arrive, the house is in some ways everything they hoped for; it's set into the mountains creating it's own private eden, with beautiful stonework and luxurious bedrooms, a warm terracotta living area, a wood-burning stove...and most of all a large patio garden cut into the hill itself, with a large pool, outdoor dining area, veranda...and a peculiar fountain set into the rock wall with a very deep, semicircular pool. The fountain comprises a flat mesoamerican carving of a jaguar's face set into the rock face, with the water pouring from it's open mouth.

As the week progresses and the students explore the grounds and surrounding hillside - in between having a good time the way only students on Spring Break know how - they make several discoveries indicating that there's more to this place than they first supposed. The more they learn, the more they realise that they are sharing their holiday with an ancient power that would prefer to be left undisturbed, and which holds the answer to the mystery of the disappearance of the Olmecs - one of the oldest mesoamerican civilisations.

And worse still, there are other parties - less ancient but no less determined and dangerous - some who would love to claim the answer for themselves, and others who would prefer to eliminate any evidence of it's existence...

The Characters

The group should consist of 4 - 8 students, male or female, of any age who's realistically be going on holiday for spring break. I'll be playing a 21 year old uni student who's the designated "responsible adult", but I'd say 15 years is the youngest you could be. If you're at college/ uni, you can choose what your major is.

Each student character will be provided with certain background information by me, which will come in useful at various points during the story.

If you want to play a different kind of character, PM me and we'll talk about it.

Toggle Rules

1 - First up, I'll assume you're familiar with the site rules. No graphic romance (if you can't keep it in your pants, keep it in a PM). Swearing and cursing must be justified by the context. And all that jazz.

2 - Post at least every 24 hours ideally, 48 hours max. Three days without a post and I will auto your characters, unless you've let us know in the OOC that you're away. Leave it too long, and your character may get 'lost' in the jungle...

3 - I'm more interested in getting good players who will stick with this RP, than with getting lots of players. Please don't join if you're juggling 5 or 6 RPs and waiting to see which one turns out to be your favourite.

4 - Medium - High literacy in this one. Posts a minimum of one paragraph.

5 – The plot is developed, but no fixed. If you wanna throw a curve ball and throw in a twist, PM me and chances are I’ll give it the OK.
