Personality

Personality: Devin is fairly cold and calculating, willing to do what is necessary to achieve what he wants. He has his own ideals and faith, and sees many things as a form of art. This results in his very set views on the way magic should be done, and Devin is rarely shifted from his ideas of the world or his developed concepts of battle, honour, destiny and purpose. He has total conviction in his goal of forming a new world, and believes that any other wish of another master is neither grand nor worthy enough for them to seize the grail. Sophisticated, calm, prideful, but with the elegant air of a gentleman, Devin is almost always formal, and will rarely act for no reason. The closest to a senseless act would be one to promote his own ideals, such as giving a blade to an unarmed enemy for a ‘true duel for men of calibre’.

Although a civilised man, Devin would not hesitate to turn to more drastic measures should someone not share his view in a situation. For the preservation of magic and mages, certain sacrifices must be made. One cannot expect a garden to grow every plant imaginable, for not all of them would be compatible for the same habitat. This holds true for his idea of the world, and if the clergy cannot co-exist with the world of magic, then he will make the choice to remove them from this garden.

Character Alignment: Lawful Evil

Motivation: To create a new world order, Devin is of the belief that by taking the Grail, he will build a new empire in his own image, restoring the world of magic, and ruling over it.

Equipment

Magic Element: Earth and Water, the key essences of life.

Spells: Flora and Plant life, Devin has the power of a green thumb, able to make plants grow and manipulate them into various forms, even to the point of breathing life into a dying plant or giving them a degree of sentience. A master botanist, he also harnesses various remedies and herbs for a variety of uses. He cannot however, make something grow from nothing – If he was on a barren rocky mountain, he wouldn’t be able to make something grow.

Equipment: After the accident that took his sister from him, Devin was more fortunate in that his only loss was an arm. To that end, he replaced it with a wooden prosthetic limb, one that he can directly control with his powers without as much as a second thought. Incredibly sturdy and infused with Magic, he can manipulate it into various forms, growing it into a blade or shield, and then being able to break that part off for use. In his breast pocket he also carries a rose, which he can also grow. Aside from that, he carries nothing else of real offensive value.

History

History: Devin Winsley was the first born heir into the aristocratic Winsley family, one that had always held strong magical ties. Taught from a very young age, he learned to harness and control his abilities, always at the ever private manor, away from prying eyes. He had the full devotion and attention of his parents into becoming a man worthy of the Winsley name. However, just a few years after he was born; Angelica Winsley followed into the family. Devin had little to fear of this. By tradition, males were always regarded in higher esteem within his family, as were the first born.

This initial assessment however, proved to be entirely false. His sister was a genius. A prodigy, blessed with magical potential and talents then he could ever hope to accomplish. Though he was the first born, and initially planned to carry on the Winsley name, Angelica’s talents greatly overshadowed him, and she was soon selected to be the great successor – The messiah that would return the mages to their rightful place. A jealous child, but not one to lash out, Devin accepted his place, learning what little he could of magic while his sister continued to flourish.

It wasn’t until years later did events transpiring that changed everything for Devin. The Winsley family had avoided much of the conflict arising from the decline of the Mages Association, but their continued use and promotion of Magic had caught the wind of some of the clergy. That car crash stole the life of his parents, his sister, and his right arm from him.

Despite this however, Devin did not fall into despair, instead deciding that fate had led him on this path. Yes, it was destiny that his family was taken from him, so that he could accept his rightful place in the world. They were misguided in believing his sister to be his superior; this was not something to be saddened about. This was his opportunity, his moment for glory. The world was untamed and uncontrolled, growing wild, choking itself to its own demise. He would redirect it though. He would cultivate a new world.

The years passed, and Devin continued to study magic from what remained at the manor, the only company being that of his plants and his servants, having inherited the vast Winsley fortune. He planned to build a new world over time, but when the letter arrived declaring him the opportunity to change it all in one swift motion… It seemed fate was directing him, once again.
