Background: Niko was born into a broken home. At a young age his parents separated, leaving him to be raised by his grandmother who he wasn't very close to. The only person he ever felt close to was his older brother, Quinton, who taught him about their Maori/Samoan heritage joined the military once Niko entered High school. In school Niko was very active. He was a member on the track team and participated in a number of clubs. When teachers had tech problems with equipment for school plays, they'd call him to come in and fix it. Overall, he was popular a popular guy who loved to travel and party, but didn't do drugs because he liked to consider himself a "straight edge".
The summer before he was supposed to start college in New York, he decided to stay with his brother and his girlfriend in Chicago. When all order began to crumble in Chicago, Quinton ,kept a level head and barricaded them inside of his apartment. Once he realized what might be the cause of the madness he gave them both guns and made his girlfriend and Niko promise that if he lost his mind like the others, that they would kill him. The girlfriend couldn't take it. She became too afraid of Quinton and fled their home. Quinton tried to go after her, but the Stim had affected him severely. Leaving Niko to deal with his crazed brother alone. The two faced off and Niko had only two options: to kill or be killed. He chose the former.
Now, he's lives alone in the apartment that he uses as a base, mostly because it has a back up generator. He goes out at night to scavenge for food in other supplies in other apartments and department stores. Unsure of how long the generator will last he's been planning on leaving the city.
