Fires of Revolution

Fires of Revolution

0 INK

A city full of conflict. A people oppressed. A police corrupted. With the fires of revolution burning brighter then ever, what role will you play in the coming events?

2,286 readers have visited Fires of Revolution since Mr. Baneling Squishy created it.

Introduction

The last war ended 33 years ago. It had countless death and destruction on both sides. It began when two sub-species of humans, the Purians and the Drevens or "Drevs", conflicted over ideology. The Purians have more pure human DNA then any other subspecies. As a result, they consider themselves superior, and believed the Drevens should serve them, using advanced technology to enforce it. The Drevens are known for their physical prowess, enhanced senses and instincts, and various gene-traits that they evolved to survive out in the now unforgiving nature of Earth.

You see, Earth was subjected to a number of Bioweapons over the years. These bioweapons killed hundreds, but mutated thousands. They created the different subspecies, as well as most of Earth's wildlife, both flora and fauna. Hunting became something you could do for fun to something you could still do for fun, but you had to for survival as well, preventing any animal pack from becoming to large and attacking settlements. Many large groups of Dreven became nomads, hunting the packs for survival, food, and other resources.

The war ended with the Purian-Dreven treaty. This treaty forced the Dreven's to be in their own, low social class that all other social classes were still better then, but most of them remained alive, and technically they had some rights. However, they were still essentially a slave/warrior class. A group of anonymous individuals opposed the clear abuses and enslavement of them to this day, with little results.

But now the fires of revolution seem to be lighting. Whispers are heard that revolution is inevitable, that freedom and equality shall be granted to all. But what side will you be on? Do you believe in the rebellion? Do you wish to avoid bloodshed? Do you believe that these lesser beings must be stomped back into their place? Or do you think that this revolution does not have to end in war?

What is your choice?

The Sub-Species:

THe Purians: While all the sub-species look human, or at least mostly human, the Purians are the most pure human. This seems to have the side affect that they tend to be the smartest of everyone, though wisest could be highly debatable if it wasn't for the fact that act could land you in jail.

The Psions: Those with psionic abilities. They typically have red, purple, green, orange, or pink eyes that glow when using their abilities, a chemical reaction to their brains excreting chemicals as a side affect to using their psionic abilities. Some psionic abilities include telepathy, mental manipulation, forcefields, invisibility and telekinesis.

The Drevens: Also known as Drevs. There is a saying, at age seven a Dreven child is already a natural warrior and soldier. Dreven children could beat an adult of any other Sub-Species in a fist fight with no armor or special abilities. Dreven age (and mature) slower then the other Sub-species, but they are stronger, quicker, and heal faster. While the average intelligence is not as high as the other Sub-species, they have great insticts, and it is possible for a smart or even genius Dreven to exist. Due to their class, typical jobs, and treatment they must deal with, it can be difficult to find an old Dreven. Sometimes they just seem to....disappear. Additionally, the Dreven might sometimes be born with animal characteristics, like retractable claws as strong as steel or tails to help improve their balance.

The Emarons: A sub-species of human that may just be the least human of them all. Emarons have reptile eyes, are cold blooded, and can breath air, water, and can survive in most gasous spaces. However, while all Sub-Species exist in all the societies around the world, with the possible exception of the Dreven society, the Emarons are scarce outside their empire. The Purians recognize the military might of the Emarons, as well as various stratagies they employ in military stratagies that only work for them, and Emarons are given as much respect as they can possibly be given.

The Mutts: Crossbreeds of the Subspecies. Mutts often end up filling low and medium class jobs. All Mutts are considered to have higher social status then Drevs, even Half-Drevs..

THe Sub-Cultures:

The Purians: Purians enjoy advanced technology, numerous luxuries, and the most leeway with their own security forces compared to other species. To just be a Purian means you are likely a higher class then the average population, though there are exceptions. An average Purian neighborhood will involve the remaints of Earth's natural ecosystem, from maple trees to clownfish to dogs. The Purian culture has had a habit of influencing the other cultures in their capital. Every Purian household either employs servants or robotic assistants (the robots get more respect), with the servants usually being Dreven or Mutts. The Purians believe in a clean lifestyle, and took great care in constructing their bathchambers. Most households hold the bathing chamber in the center of the buildings, for all to see from nearly every corner of the house, and have their houses kept clean. They also take pride in having and showing off their full clean bodies when among their family members, and the parts that are not clothed when attending parties.

Purians typically hold Government, Management, Scientist, and Overseer Jobs. They are thinkers, planers, designers, and managers. They manipulate, own, and lead. Purians believe they are the best, and it shows. Rarely do Purians do hands on work, unless they are prodigies in that area and are one of the best in the world. Intelligence, cunning, and charm are valued mental qualities, as well as beauty, perfection, and symmetry as valued physical traits. Your fame, appearance, and the amount you own often determines your status, but so does achievment. Despite popular belief among the other species, Purians are not as heartless, manipulative, and calculating as they seem, but are simply affected by peer pressure and social systems. Purians who achieve great things, who truly do earn and deserve their status, can be and usually are considered to be of higher status then just how much they own or how much of their DNA is pure human. The secret group that have been stirring up trouble and fighting for more rights and better treatment of the Dreven were actually crated by Purians who know in truth, if everyone was not so afraid and pressured by the propoganda, a good portion of the Purian Population would rise up with them and speak out.

The Drevens: Most Drevens live in the lower areas of the city, in slum like areas that just have enough resources plus a little extra to prevent hunger, thirst, sickness, and other issues that could lead to a massive revolt. Others that act as bodyguards (which is possibly the most prestigous position most Dreven can earn) or servants live with the people they work for, their living quarters quality depending on their job, the thoughtfulness of the employer, and how many times they have guests. Otherwise, most Dreven households, apartments, and living quarters have the standard items to ensure survival and average to good health, with no to very few luxury items. Many are highly monitored to "prevent crime" and make sure the population is staying in line.

While Purians might be more uptight and less honest in social public, Drevens are more fun loving and loose. The Dreven marketplace is a bustling source of not just goods, but also chatter, gossip, and excitement. Children play in the streets, people express their true emotions, and culture truly thrives. An unknown Purian artist once said "While Purians certainly have the most pure human DNA, the Drevs seem to have maintained the survival of old human culture, before the wars and bioweapons and disasters. I came here to paint their sorrow and brutality, but that is not what defines them. What defines them is that they have ensured the survival of the old human culture of community, social vitality, and enduring whatever conditions they are met with". TO this date, he continues to be unidentified. However, Drevens are starting to get tired of being treated this way. They want better conditions, more resources, and additional rights. And the Capital is starting to feel it as well. They typically hold low level jobs, like factory workers, janitors, servants, bodyguards, and other menial labor occupations.

THe Psions: Psions often enjoy the area of the upper part of the middle class, or the lower part of the Upper class. They hold many of the specialist jobs, or of being the people inbetween the higher ups and the workers below. They are things such as Engineers, Doctors, teachers, and police officers. Psions have an interesting culture that has been influenced by their gifts and status. They are the most respected sub-species to the Purians due to the fact Psionic abilities existed in humans before the wars and the bioweapons.

Psion culture is a sort of mix between Purian and Dreven. They are social like the Dreven, but they care at least somewhat about appearance as well. The sociality is a bit more prevailent though, in part because of their gifts. As psions often have gifts such as telepathy, empathy, and foresight. While they most certainly can keep secrets, and their are ways of keeping them from psionic abilities if you have a strong enough will to do so, this has resulted in their culture being more social then the Purians. Psions as a result value truth, honesty, and morality over other traits. They tend to favor more diplomatic resolutions due to the fact they are not as physically fit as the Drevens or on average the other species, and like to avoid being in situations that will involve them getting hit or being in a close quarters fight.

Ironically enough, Psions also are one of the more prominent species in the criminal world.

The Emarons: While little is known about their homeland, the Emarons do not display any one singular culture, preference, or opinion. They hold all sorts of job, though are given respect no matter what type of job it is. They live in all the different social class areas, but some treat others of lower class as if they were higher, and so on. What is known about Emarons is that they generally value hard work, conviction, and rules. While some view the Drevs as garbage who deserve the situation they are in, others believe they deserve more respect then the Purians.

The simple truth is, Emarons are the most diverse and the least unified culturally then any other human sub-species, that even Emarons don't know every religion, belief, and opinion held in their species, or even one city.

The Mutts: While they do not have any culture of their own, but rather live in whatever culture they are identified as, Mutts exist in many jobs, classes, and lifestyles. Mutts will seemingly never be in the upper class, but can exist in the middle class. While treated better then Drevs usually, they can still face many of the abuses the Drevs face for those on the lower class, and if they are half Drev half Purian, will almost certainly be died as a Purian even if those are the features that show more.

Some believe Mutts should be even lower then Drevs, mainly Purians, but that action is not taken, likely because of the fact the people who fathered and mothered the Mutts that care about them would be in an outrage, and as they don't know what percentage of the population that is, they won't risk adding more fuel to the fire for any revolution.

Society:

Low Class: Little to average education, high public crime rate, live in the lower parts of the city, poor healthcare, few rights (And some are not enforced fully).

Middle Class: Average to high education, medium public crime rate, live in the medium parts of the city, average to good/great healthcare, most to full rights (depends on criminal record, affiliations, and what job is held).

HIgh Class: High education, low public crime rate, lives in the higher parts of the city, exceptional healthcare, full rights (with unspoken privileges)

Government:

The Government is an Elected Council, Elected by Popular Vote. Though, notably your class level determines how much your vote counts for. After all, those with the most education, intelligence, and enlightenment. There is one High Council of 23 Senators, and five lower councils of 7 Senators. These five lower councils hold special functions, or when needed, can overrule a ruling made by the HIgh Council if a majority in three of the five councils agrees. The Primary council creates laws, and the five lower councils help enforce them. There is a council of Defense, Security and Law, A Council of Medicine, A Council of Finances, A Council of Education and Science, and a Council of Engineering and Industry.

Religions:

Among a few old religions that survived, a few new ones were also born

The Church of Avine: They believe that Avine, The Mother of Humanity, who laid the first humans into the Cradle of Humanity, which was made of dirt and water and trees and rock, a Cradle of Earth. They believe that Avine is simply waiting for humanity to prove itself, such as surviving these wars and disasters, and once they prove themselves worthy they shall grow up and ascend to the Celestial Plane.

Their sacred day is Monday, where the family undertakes a series of tasks known as "The Ritual". Each member of the family uses a wet sponge with soap to wash their body completely, and then meditate for fifteen minutes. After that, they take a ten minute break, and then they have another session. They repeat this two more times, taking up a total of an hour and thirty minutes. After which, they light a special candle using a Ceremonial Lighter, and sit in a circle around the candle talking about their week truthfully and without lies, or risk the wraith of Avine.

Additionally, they also celebrate a winter holiday called "Avine's Blessing", when Avine first gave birth to humanity on the first Friday after December 21st, unless it is the 21st in that case its that day. The family engages in a smaller version of the ritual, only meditating once after completing the wash. They then exchange presents placed under Purpleberry Bush decorated with all sorts of decoration they see fit.

The Chaos: Believing in the fact the world is full of Chaos, the Church of this faith believes in worshipping that Chaos, so that it might spare them from its next strike. It believe it takes peoples lives with a purpose, with some desire to achieve some ultimate goal, and they believe that by worshipping it it will support them once that goal has been completed.

Needless to say, various violent, crazy, and semi-psychotic cults resulted from this religion. They worship by praying to a symbol of Chaos, like a medallion or an Alter, every sunset and sunrise, and they also believe in spirits torn from the void by The Chaos to haunt this realm and herald more Chaos. Additionally, every three months, on the first of that month, they celebrate Chaos Day, where they throw one big chaotic party.

Groups:

The Revolution: A group of people who believe things need to change in the country of New Americas, especially in the Capital City.

PDF: Protection and Detainment Force: Essentially the police, but a bit more corruptable and biased.

Interwhere: A group of highly skilled hackers, tech prodigies, thieves, and the like determined to finding the truth and exposing corruption, unfairness, and cruelty.

The Shadows: A group of Cultist assassins who follow a really skewed version of The Chaos. They are led by The Master, who they believe will Herald in the next Chaos event. Their fee is determined on the amount of kills, the difficulty of the kills, and any specifics on how the kill needs to go down. ANd if you don't pay, they might kill you...or they might kill the people you love the most.

The Agency: A rumored secret group of Scientists who kidnap people and do secret experimentation on them. Believed to have people in the Government in their pocket. They are Arch Enemies with Interwhere.

As for the character sheet, you can make whatever character sheet you want, but it must be detailed, and provide all the basics at least. You may have multiple characters if you choose. As for content, be reasonable. Romance, nudity, violence is all fine, but we don't need unnecessary details. And you should know what those are.

(So, I might have gone a little bit (massively a lot) overboard with this first post, but I needed to make it epic enough though, needed to put some groundwork for people to build off of)

"Oh you have got to be kidding me" Engineer Jacob Murrue mentioned as he hung from a pipe, in a partially destroyed section of a building, above acid with pink fleshy monsters known as Mutants were coming towards him from all sides growling. He manged to get his weapon out, but unless he came up with a solution quick, he was screwed.

"Alright, wait a second. Hold on. Sorry for interrupting the story like this, but we started out on the wrong foot. Hi, my name is Jacob Murrue. I am an Engineer, trying to keep the city from falling apart. And we should not start the story here, but fifteen minutes earlier..."

ARCNet Main Datastorage Building, Tefani Plaza:

The guards were letting people in as normal. Everything was running fine, and the people were all going about their normal business. A mailman came through with some packages, and behind him, a special agent came through with some important tech. It was supposed to be the new advanced Processing Unit, that would enhance ARCNet's systems so that it would be able to tell them who was with the Revolution, Interwhere, and Shadows with a 98% chance of success per target. He quickly got into the elevator, and headed towards where he needed to insert the device.

"Hey, you hear? A member of the High Council is coming to visit. Wants to see the new system at work, and apparently they hired some mercs to help defend it during the next few days as well. I wonder which Councilor it is" one of the guards for the next shift said as him and three other guards walked into the building with some new expresso coffee they created across the street at the new Starlight Cafe. They got onto the elevator, and proceeded to head to their posts.

And then, just about twenty seconds later, it happened. The ARCNet building came online, and then seven seconds after that, a series of explosions rattled the area and devastated the building. Four explosions in total. One in the main reactor, two along the powerlines and datafeeds, and one in the data storage area. ARCNet just took a hit.

"And now, this is where I come in. That's me, sitting at the table at the Cafe across the Plaza. And lucky me, I was on call for Rapid Response Duty. Basically, that means that if there is a technical emergency, like a building blowing up and needing repairs, I would be called in to help do initial fixings and structure stabilization, as well as making sure to eliminate the risk of additional damage. Of course, this can sometimes be hampered by people's prejudice towards Drevs and Half Drevs. Anyways, ima stop interjecting with comments here".

Jacob quickly started getting his gear together, and began running towards the building. He scanned the ID code on his left arm at the door, his Hazard level clearance giving him access. He approached the front desk. "Engineer Murrue here. What is the situation".

"ARCNet data drives are down, and our power core just went boom in the basement. Or its highly damaged" the guard told him as he looked up. "Hold on, aren't you a little young?"

"I am fourteen, which makes me a legal adult. I just had inherit slow aging from my mother so I look nine or ten, but I inherited my Psion father's, whoever he might be, intelligence. Now, I assume you are having security sweep the area. Have you encountered any mutants or tunnel breaches?"

If the explosion breached into the tunnels below, mutants could be crawling into the building as they spoke, and they would make his job more difficult.

"None yet, but we do have an issue. This building has two backup fusion engines to power it, but the fusion lines on both are damaged or something. If you don't get those patched, everyone trapped on the upper levels is dead" the guard told him, as Jacob took out his tools. He began setting up the Tri-pod that would connect to his harness. He had his Grav-Shoes on, but the simple fact is the plasma residue on the walls would likely make it impossible to work. Additionally, the exhaust a hoverboard gives off to prevent overheating would likely trigger the fusion gas filling up in that room, causing another explosion. So, harness was the only way to go in.

As Jacob went lower, he saw the full extent of the damage. Data drives in pieces, Plasma residue everywhere. Just being in the room was toxic, but thanks to Jacob's Dreven DNA he was able to withstand it...so long as he did not touch the walls. The catwalk below him was already clear of Plasma Residue. "Hey, what happened to the clean up drones?"

"There is too much residue for them to get all of it, but they managed to clear away some areas. You should have a clean path to the fusion lines".

That was when Jacob heard growling below. "Guys, we need a containment team down here stat. I think I just heard Mutants".

Jacob looked around. He did not see anything, but he could smell them. They were barely making any noise either. He reached into his toolkit, and took out a standard Engineering issue Plasma Pistol G-X9 series, known for destabilizing mutants genetic structure on contact. He then made a run for the fusion line, getting to it as a Mutant jumped up from below and charged towards him. Luckily, his support drone known as Blue showed up and zapped the thing back off the catwalk. Blue was run by a Level 4 AI. AIs had ten levels. The higher level an AI, the more powerful it and its processing power is. However, it also is less human, has less emotions. Lower level AIs are more like people, but are not as powerful or efficient.

Jacob managed to seal the Fusion Lines using some sealing gel and spreading it among the breach. The fusion lines reconnected to the engines, causing the lights to turn on. This revealed dozens of mutants crawling up the walls out of a breach. "Blue, we need to get out of here now!" Jacob tugged on the harness so that they knew to pull him up. They started to, but before he made it out of the hole in the ceiling/floor, a mutant lept across and severed the nano-rope with its claws. Jacob just barely managed to grab a pipe before he fell.

And now, he was back in this position. He fired at any Mutant that got close, but even he knew this level of a mutant breach was too much for how much energy was left in his weapon. Before the mutants got any closer though, a rope was dropped down. He quickly attached it to his harness, and tugged on it again.

Now that he was back up, he sighed with relief. "Make sure security and the engineering team that will be headed here is ready to deal with a level 4 Mutant incursion".

With that, he then noticed there was some plasma gunk on his shoes. He took them off, and put them into a containment bag so he could safely transport them home later. His feet had some bandages on them, from his new hobby of learning a variety of martial arts. He made a mental note to change them later, and he got out his spare pair of shoes.

That was when he spotted someone entering. He didn't know the guy, but Jacob was good at spotting people who were hiding things. And this guy, he had something to hide. BUt what he was more curious about was who did this, why did they do it, and how did they do it.

Storm Tidus

A single armored bus pulled into the parking lot of the ARCNet building, the black plas-steel complimenting it's amber colored insignia in a cross shape. Inside the transport sat several mercenaries preparing to enter the building. They were loading up their gear and checking their weapons, but all of them were anxious about the mission. One in particular, a young mutt sitting in the corner, was seemingly depressed about what lied ahead. His anxiety had gotten to him, as it was his first mission and such an important one. He was comforted however as his mentor sat beside him and put a hand on his shoulder. The orange colored holo-visor obscured the man's face but it was simple enough to get at his meaning. Storm Tidus accepted his mentor's comfort and checked his sword before sheathing it on his back, and immediately the order to move out was issued.

Two teams of four mercenaries exited the mobile transport, each securing the perimeter before Storm's mentor Kevin lead their team inside to talk to a representative waiting for them. Storm stayed close behind Kevin and inspected the location to get as much of an idea of the damage as possible. Kevin spoke with the rep and found out that some levels of the damaged power rooms needed clearing of mutants. Their team headed down to the mutant infested areas and scouted the area, setting Storm at an uneasy pace. While Kevin and Storm had Drev blood they were unaffected by the noxious fumes, but the other half of their team had to keep their protective helmets in place.

Commissioner Cain

"Command, Verify why R-177 are the first ones on scene outside private security and freelance forces? As I recall, the Precinct house is across from the ARCnet building for a reason? I know damn well they have the equipment to get over there sooner, I did the inspections last week!"

A group of four PDF Prowler's, with markings from the Precinct R-177 across the doors on each side on otherwise matte black vehicles, moved with an incredible sense of urgency as their sirens wailed to clear the way ahead of the pack of Prowler's. In each Prowler were four PDF officers, the lead vehicle being driven by the Commissioner of Precinct R-177, and well into his older years Dreven, Alexander Cain. Due to the sensitive nature and priority of the response he had taken personal leadership of this mission. The lead Prowler was leading the other three in a diamond formation, and while they flew Commissioner Cain was arguing with superiors and the head of the Precinct as to why it was up to the R-177 PDF to be on site first, when they were anything but the closest first response force available from PDF. The other R-177 officers were loading up long arms, a mixture of shotguns and compact automatic rifles. Due to the confirmed Mutant presence increased firepower was authorized for the responding PDF officers, and they were coming ready for a fight.

The sirens would alert the on scene personnel of the arriving PDF Prowlers. What was likely unexpected was the four matte black R-177 Prowlers touching down as they came from around a corner, hatches on the Prowler's already sliding up to allow the sixteen man reaction force from Precinct R-177 to get boots on the ground fast. The freelancers and private security would know the Precinct by reputation, if nothing else, as the Prowlers were parked and the men formed off into four man squads. While armor and weapons varied between members (And only the Commissioner carrying personal weapons outside his sidearm), each and every one of them wore a long black all weather coat, which was what gave them the nickname the Precinct had. The Blackcoats, no nonsense and did not deal in shady, border legality operations. They were lawmen, first and foremost, and the Commissioner and his three closest men would head for the recovering first responders from the building itself, while the other Blackcoats fanned out to secure the perimeter, reinforcing the work that the mercs had done already. Commissioner Cain approached a lad who had bagged his shoes, plasma exposure it looked like, pegging him from the short brief he got from his higher ups as an on duty Rapid Response. Best get first hand information on what had happened so far, rather than rely on shoddy reports, and with his personal shotgun hanging across his vest, he wasted no time while his three men fanned out to work with other first responders, already knowing what their job was.

"Engineer Murrue? Commissioner Cain, Precint R-177. Heard you boys got yourself a nasty mutant infestation down here after initial detonations, what other problems we looking at beyond those, lad?"

Candice Jackson was comfortably seated in a black SUV headed towards the ARCNet Main Datastorage Building when her bodyguard had received a phone call.

“Yes, sir. Goodbye.” He finished the phone call and turned to Candice. “Seems there’s been a disturbance at the destination. I suggest we postpone your visit.”

Candice rolled her eyes. “Define disturbance.”

“A number of explosions, m’am.” He explained.

Candice thought to herself for a moment. “Potential for further danger?”

“A level 3 alert has been issued.”

“Oh please, level 3? We continue. Hardly any danger, and it could be a good publicity opportunity.” She sat back in her seat and enjoyed the remainder of the ride.

Candice arrived at the Datastorage Building and stepped out of her vehicle. Her bodyguards cleared a path for her to reach the building. She paused to pose for her photography drone as she ducked under the police tape that warned the public to go no further.

She considered approaching someone to get some information, but decided that photo opportunities took priority and scouted the area for the best images. Although, she did keep an eye out for certain people. She was particularly interested if that Dreven, Commissioner Cain was here.

As everyone showed up, someone walked up over to him, introducing himself as Commissioner Cain. He mainly asked about the situation.

"Well, actually it was just me. I am currently the only responding Engineer to this situation, unless you want to count my friend blue" Jacob told him, pointing out the hovering drone nearby. He then brought up a holographic display of the ARCNet facility. "Its a level four breach. Ravager class mutants from what I saw. I killed a number of them before getting out of there myself. From what I saw though, it could have been any number of things. A destabilized Plasma Charge placed on the reactor itself, which caused destabilized plasma to also get into the flow pipes and cause the secondary explosions in the three other rooms. Someone overloading the Plasma in the reactor with a contaminant that caused their own plasma to destabilize, though this would require intimate access to the reactor controls. Another possibility is precision det charges were somehow sneaked in, and that all four explosions were set off by seperate devices in a blind attempt to try and damage what they could, which would mean the bomber probably never even entered the building, but had it hidden on four other people. Additionally, it could have also been a reverse chain reaction. Normally, a chain reaction would work from the reactor down through the pipes, but a powerful enough explosive that was plasma based could have been planted in whatever other room got mainly hit, and the plasma's mixed in a way that caused a rapid reaction that went fast enough to ignore flow speed and reach the reactor as well as two other spots, build up there, and then explode within seconds of the primary explosive".

He then put his bagged shoes away, and was still barefoot as he had not put on his new shoes yet. He brought out a sample kit, and took some of the plasma gunk that had dripped onto the floor before securing the sample and putting it away. "Anyways, mutants are not even the worse problem. THe plasma residue down there is strong enough to be toxic. Its contained to the lower levels right now, but eventually it will turn gasous and then we will be in trouble".

It was probably worth noting that Jacob held no fear when talking to Cain, and stood tall (figuritvely, he is a fourteen year old Dreven/Psion Mutt and he inherited the slow aging from his mother's Dreven DNA so in fact he appears to be nine or ten) and proud. After all, most Rapid Response Engineers work in teams, but Jacob Murrue (Which for the record, the Mur as in Murky and the Rue as in Roo) had arrived and immediately started working by himself, managed to stabilize the fusion lines while under mutant attack, and successfully got out of there alive. Not many Engineers could do that. The number was in the single digits.

"We should really be focusing on containment of the plasma down there. That should be a prior....." Jacob started, when the alarms went off.

"Alert. Power has returned to the security functions. Alert, a Cyber Breach has been detected. All ARCNet data was downloaded offsite. Backup files are damaged, system corrupted. Restoring remaining ARCNet data to the database now" the AI told them. A split second later, and Jacob felt a very minor vibration through his bare feet. He immediately took out his weapon, pointed it in Candice Jackson's direction, and shot the mutant that sprang from the vents and right at her, killing it with a headshot.

He immediately looked towards the security officer at the desk. "What the fuck was that? I told you this was a level four breach! All vents should be locked down and monitored!"

Jacob then turned towards Commissioner Cain. "Anyways, if we don't deal with the Plasma Issue, and the gas builds up, even if the toxicity does not reach us, it could cause more explosions if it meets an ignition source. So that needs to be a priority. Speaking of priorities, I should take a damn shower. While the gunk only got on my shoes, I am sure every bit of clothing I am wearing is covered in plasma residue just by being down there. So, lets finish this up. What else do you need to know?"

Meanwhile, in the background, someone passed by all the security and started heading upstairs.

Storm Tidus

Heading further into the explosion zone, Storm and his team kept searching the area but was unable to spot any mutants right away. After ten minutes they decided to break out scanners that scanned for heartbeats, and finally detected where their targets were. The problem was it showed them all right in front of the team, and they saw no one in that direction. It was too little too late when they finally spotted them, the first dropping down on top of Storm and pinning him down. Kevin and his other team mates shot the mutant off Storm so he could get up and draw his sword. There were suddenly beset by a whole dozen or so of them, the mutants far outnumbering the mercenaries. Kevin yelled for them all to run for the exit as he pulled out a plasma grenade, and Storm wasted no time in retreating.

As he neared the entrance he turned just in time to see Kevin swarmed in mutants as he pulled the pin on the grenade. As it went off the fumes in the room ignited and blasted Storm out of the door just as it closed to contain the blast automatically. Storm hit the ground hard in the main lobby but immediately stood and ran to the door, dropping his blade in the process, and starts pounding on it. "Dammit Kevin!" He sinks to the floor and sits there on his knees, out of breath and shaking from the thought of loosing his mentor. He had to call in backup from the other team, so he fumbles with his comm link and tells them about what happened. The second Amber-Cross team arrives momentarily and keeps the door secure while Storm is comforted by one of the mercenaries, the young mutt almost in tears over his encounter.

Candice Jackson flinched as a young boy shot a gun in her direction. She turned to look where the bullet had landed.

A dead mutant lay on the ground with a bleeding bullet wound. They underestimated the danger level here. She thought to herself. She made a mental note to find out who assessed the danger level of the alert. This sort of incompetence was unacceptable.

She also made a note to discipline her bodyguard for his own incompetence. She glanced at him, noticing the nervous twitch in his stance.

She smoothed her hair with her fingertips and turned back towards the young boy. As she approached him, she noticed that he was speaking with Commissioner Cain.

"Commissioner Cain, your forces seem to be having trouble securing the area. The alert issued did not indicate this level of danger." She said briskly before turning to the boy. "Thank you, young man. You're quite the shot!"
