My Kingdom Runs Like: Elphanor is a small kingdom that floats above where the capital city of Galena used to stand. The kingdom is ruled by the High King. When there isn't a High King, a council, made up of trusted advisers, rule until the next High King is picked. Usually, the next High King is chosen via inheritance. But, sometimes, if the previous High King dictates it, he lets the council or other outside factors decide the next High King.
Elphanor acts as a supervisor for the four land kingdoms (Tibolt, Iroldak, Gai, Ruthen). It is where people go that wish to keep peace between the four kingdoms. Elphanor is where major political problems, treaties, and situations are handled. Royals of the land kingdoms don't only arrive to the airborne castle for problems. More often than not, royals and nobles of the sister kingdoms come to the castle for celebration. When it's a kingdom's major holidays. the ballroom in Elphanor would be decorated for such occasion with banners and colors of said kingdom. Also once a year, the crown families from below will stay all at once for a 'casual meeting'. Where business doesn't truly need discussed and it's more for the sake of being civil to each other inside of the High King's home.
The High King and his family are all Warlocks. Because of this, magic tends to be used to help sustain Elphanor, both in sustaining its people and in sustaining the island's ability to float in the air. The importance of magic leads to any potential heirs of the High King to be heavily trained in all forms of magic. Due to Elphanor's extensive library, the heirs are also made to learn as much as they can about the four kingdoms and the history of Galena, especially the events leading to the separation of Galena.
Talent/Skills: Xan is very observant and knowledgeable, allowing him to be very astute and a quick problem solver. He can be a quick learner when he puts his mind to the task. He's able to keep his emotions buried deep inside of him to where he can be the most level-headed person in battle allowing him to be a natural strategist.
Power(s): Being from a long line of pure Warlock blood does have its advantages. Xan has been taught a wide range of spells. From elemental spells to sheath spells, he learned them and has better control of certain spell types over others. Some of his preferred spells are energy based, illusion, and matter manipulation spells.
Weapon(s): Xan doesn't own any personal weapons nor does he know how to use one. If a battle arises, he'll rely on his magic.
Personality: A word that most often describes the young prince Xanatos is stoic. It's extremely rare to see him without a bored or disinterested expression on his face. If something takes him by surprise, he might cock a brow but nothing more. This and introverted personality easily make people misunderstand him. Many people view him as a cold and standoffish while he isn't. For Xan, people are just confusing. From being happy one moment to yelling and crying the next. Other than in a formal setting, the prince doesn't know how to talk to people. Often saying a greeting in a cold or disinterested tone, or a compliment coming out as an insult. Xan is a very liberal thinker and things like jokes and metaphors go over his head.
On the other side of the Xanatos coin, he's very studious. Often researching new facts and spells. Many a times, trying to create his own unique magic. He'll get an idea in his head and hideout in his little 'workshop' until he's ready to test it out. Nearly everyone of his spell experiments have either ended up in a small explosions or with a odd side effect. The young prince does have his stubborn hermit phases where he would refuse to come out of his workshop unless he was dragged out by the staff.
Past: Xanatos was born from an arraigned marriage between his mother and his father with a younger sister named Athena, born years later. The two royal siblings were surprisingly close given they had polar opposite personalities. Little Athena was warm and friendly that always had a huge grin on her face. While Xan was standoffish and calm that looked like nothing interested him. Even with their differences, they helped each other get through the interesting childhood as the grandchildren of the High King. Their grandfather and their father were wise and kind, their uncle wasn't.
Behind the polite smiles and hollow words lied the younger son of the High King with nothing more than a cold power hungry heart. With his father being older than his uncle and already had heirs, he was in favor of taking the High King title. The High King would often send his parents to foreign lands to promote relationships with them with trade and alliances. During such a trip, neither one of their parents returned home. Instead a report that they became ill after arriving in the foreign land and died of it. All the while their uncle smirking with glee at the news behind their grandfather's back. At the time, both Xanatos and Athena believed the reports. The naivety of children.
Even with his brother out of the way, there was one more obstacle that stood in the uncle's path of being the next High King. The years that followed, Xanatos began his tutoring. So that one day he'll be High King in place of his late father. While his uncle couldn't do anything to Xan that wouldn't catch the suspension of the High King, the frustrated man found an outlet. While Xanatos wasn't around to watch over his little sister, the uncle talked down and spit words of acid to the young girl. The little princess that was filled laughter that would be friends with anybody and everybody became soft spoken and shy. Her childish grin became a rare shadow of a smile. Naturally, Xan questioned his younger sister about her sudden change of behavior and if anything was wrong. The young princess would try to give her brother her best smile and say everything was fine. Every time he wanted the real answer, his tutors would drag him away to his studies.
When Xan turned eighteen, the High King and council recognized the prince as a accomplished warlock and prepared for his Marking Ceremony. A ceremony for warlocks that become of age and gained control over magical forces. Each warlock gets his or her unique tattoos for their 'markings' to symbolize their rite of passage. There was one important missing from Xan's ceremony, Athena. After receiving countless congratulations from his grandfather, the council, nobles, and royals, Xan went in search of his sister.
It took a few hours but he finally found her in the garden, dead from an apparent stab wound. He believed for a time that it might have been an assassin, along with everyone else. Until reason and memories changed his opinion. Elphanor has one of the strictest imports and exports security, nothing and no one comes or goes without approval. So how would an assassin be able to waltz in here? Why assassinate Athena, who couldn't be able to claim the High King title, when there's more profit for her as a hostage. Years of his uncle's glares and mutterings how he would do anything to become High King. The more Xanatos thought about his beloved sister's death, the more he was convinced his uncle was the culprit.
Whether or not he has proof is something he has kept close to his heart. Xanatos became more withdrawn that before with the death of his sister and started to drown himself in his studies and experimenting new magic. The only thing that is for sure is that he is determined to become the High King. But soon, Xanatos planned to make his move against his uncle. He just had no idea the death of his grandfather would give him the perfect opportunity to take what his uncle wanted. To finally get revenge for what his uncle had done to him and his family...and stop his uncle from becoming High King. For the wheels of fate were now turning, and now it was time to see who will become the next High King.
