Cynthia woke up with her head pounding. She remembered a voice telling her where she was...The Forest Asylum...

Cynthia Northfall was ripped from her thoughts as low growling surrounded her. Red eyes were glaring out of the underbrush, circling her. Her reflexes were tense, ready. One of the creatures leapt at her, and she grabbed its skinny tail. The thing was a small cat-like creature. Its claws were out, ripping at her shirt. The tail was long, pale, and whipping around. It screeched, and the other cats attacked.

Cynthia felt the claws tearing, but as she pushed the creatures away, she couldn't register any pain. They were numbing her. How considerate. Her legs were now numb, and she saw the cats hissing as they backed away from her. She fell over, releasing the first one. A bellow from the trees scared away the remaining beasts.

A giant creature ambled out into the clearing where Cynthia sat. "It's like another world..." The new arrival resembled a polar bear. It had long, shaggy, silvery fur, and as it bent over to sniff her, she reached out to stroke its fur. It rumbled happily, nudging Cynthia into the trees. The light of sunset streamed in through the leaves, dappling the forest floor.

Her legs were returning to her, and she walked unsteadily into the forest. The trees were lit with tiny glowing orbs. Closely examining one, Cynthia sprang back when it blinked. Little mice. A tiny, furry body with giant glowing eyes. Adorable, but a little creepy. One swung onto her shoulder, and dropped something into her hand. A fruit resembling an apple rolled around in her hand. The bear sniffed it closely and then ate it out of her hand. The mouse leapt away into the forest.

As the bear's giant blue eyes turned to look at her, she felt a tingling cold rush through her body. Cynthia blinked, and the world took on a shimmering glaze. She turned slowly, and saw her body standing in front of her. She was the bear. Blinking again, she returned to her own body. She was a Tamer, and she had a companion. Climbing up onto its back, Cynthia stared up at the darkening sky. "Good night." She closed her eyes, and then fell into a deep sleep. First day finally over.

Aranda smiled in amusement at his obvious disinterest. She had to wonder if he thought that she wasn't going to cook the meat. She was about to withdraw a very specific arrow from her quiver when she heard a rustle. Her head snapped around to face it, and she dearly hope that whatever it was, it wasn't another monkey. "You wouldn't happen to know where we are? All I was given was a name before I was dumped here," Walter asked.
"Nope," Aranda replied just as a girl stepped out of the bushes, unsteadily holding a rapier in front of her.
"Who are you two? I'm assuming you're criminals. I think everyone here is," she talked pretty fast, like she was nervous, and her hands were kind of shaking.
Aranda looked down at the monkey, picking up her hunting knife. She then proceeded to do what everyone does when they hunt. "Yep," she said, answering the girl's question. "We're criminals. Something you really don't seem like you want to be."

"At least, not here. Do you know anything about this place except for the name? It looks like you two are allied."
Aranda smirked, "Well we haven't quite discussed that yet. Are you hungry... What was your name again? I'm Aranda."
She raised an eyebrow at the girl, finding it curious that she hadn't introduced herself. The girl lowered the rapier and Aranda stood up, "You're holding it wrong."
With a sigh, she took the girl's hand and placed them in the correct position so that she was holding it steadier. "There," Aranda nodded. "Don't go killing me with that thing."

Upon hearing her reply he was a tad disappointed. He had hoped she'd be able to divulge more information than that but unfortunately they were all in the same boat it seemed. Just as everything seemed comfortable a girl came out of the thicket bearing a sword at them both.

"Who are you two? I'm assuming you're criminals. I think everyone here is."

The girl seemed less confident in her abilities than Aranda did in hers. Between her apparent lack of confidence and the fact it was two versus one he didn't show much concern. For the moment he was more preoccupied with thinking of where he could find some sort of canteen to hold liquids with. Everyone seemed to have a weapon but him but he still had his ability, a weapon in the hands of someone knowledgeable enough to use it correctly. Now that I think about it since they are all criminals like me who on earth captured them and then released them with a weapon? What about me? He wondered about that curious little quandary while he leaned against a tree and put his hands in his pockets. His right hand came into contact with something cold.

What in bloody blazes? He mentally exclaimed in the surprise of his discovery, his eyebrows jumping up a bit before he produced this odd object from his pant pocket. In his hand he had produced a slightly impressive switch blade knife. It's foldable blade was about as long as his hand from the tip of the middle finger down to the base of the palm and it had a custom grip which fit him almost perfectly. Hot dang this is a sweet blade. Someone must of gone out of their way to get me something like this. Who on earth would take a guy like me out of prison and land him in a forest with a knife like this though?

He seemed stirred out of his deep thought after some conversation from the other two had past him by. Clearly whatever they were talking about didn't involve him so he didn't really concern himself with the details they were divulging. What did get his attention was the fact that there was a set of footsteps too many on the bank of this stream. The grass wasn't exactly high right next to the water so the footsteps weren't too hidden for him to spot. Looks like we have another mystery guest. Is this one another criminal or someone with a modicum of knowledge about this place?

"I'd hate to interrupt your conversation but judging from the footprints leading up into the woodland it seemed we're not the only ones here. Perhaps we shouldn't stand in one place too long in case that becomes a problem?"

"Great, now we're all besties, can we get going? Staying in one place and making lots of noise is probably a bad idea, you know."

Some guy who decided to make his big reveal showed up.
"Yeah, sure, pretend you didn't basically just rephrase what I just said." Walter rolled his eyes at the wannabe ninja. His words falling on deaf ears they idly started in a direction, the lot of them walking on to their destination. He wasn't much too worried about the new guy but if this stranger was too much an issue he'd just split paths with the group and do his own thing. After all, none of them were all too attached to just say bye and forget each other even existed. At least, that's how he saw it. He worked best on his own skills and he wasn't gonna let the brooding edgy kid cramp his style.

As they were about to get anywhere there was mortal combat going down not too far ahead. Clearing out from the foliage he could see some random girl fighting a screwed up looking kangaroo thing. Before he could put his two cents in on the subject the only other guy in the group rushed to her aid. A shame really. He analyzed the situation at a lightning fast pace. I wish we'd of shown up a bit later so it'd already of finished her off before that putz finished off whatever the heck that dumb looking wrinkly thing is. Two birds, one stone and I wouldn't of even had to have lifted a finger. Oh well, guess not all wishes come true. He saw an opportunity to cut down on competition slip past. Yeah, this guy was probably gonna cramp his style. In any case he did away with the pitiful creature fast enough. Oh look, ice powers, guy thinks he's a ninja, whatever. Basically summed up his recollection of the fight.

As the creatures intestines spilt to the floor, the animal itself collapsing over the pile of it's own guts gurgling a wounded cry in it's own defeat, he just strolled up to the sad soon to be dead thing. He wasn't even phased by the brutal gore caused by the animal's wound. Meh. I'm a modern gamer, I've seen worse and rendered nearly as well as this. Can't say I'm not already desensitized to this stuff. He wasn't going to let a little bloodshed break his stride anytime soon.

"You... You know each other, I assume?" Cynthia asked the most redundant question ever considering the guy knew the girls name. He just rolled his eyes, starting on this thing's tusk since they looked much too useful to waste.

He started by cutting away the excess which was between him and the piece of it's face he actually wanted. Nothing of his was getting bloody since any time blood came in contact with his stuff it turned to water. That made dirty work far more tolerable. Eventually he found the base of the tusk itself. After a bit of chipping he eventually pried the ivory prize from it's mouth. With some time and effort he now had a little something to help out. Now to check one important detail.

Yup, it's hollow... mostly. He was happy to see this beast's tusk was the hollow type but it still had some unpleasant stuff like nerves and stuff which he could honestly do without. He scooped up some of the beasts own blood from it's torso which ran free with the stuff with it's own horn. Once in the horn the blood quickly became a potent drain cleaner AKA sulfuric acid which he gently swirled around inside. The inside of the horn burned and hissed like someone was cooking steaks inside it. After a short while when the loud sound of acid eating flesh became a bit quieter he figured he'd turn this stuff into something else before it started to eat through the tusk as well. Quickly any and all acid within the horn turned into harmless water.

He dumped the fluid out over the now dead creatures face, the water and what little was left of the inside contents of the horn spilling into it's ugly dark brown fur. Now he had exactly what he wanted: a practical cup for holding fluids. Now, time to get myself a proper drink to celebrate my own ingenuity. He was fairly certain he missed most if not all of what the others were talking about but he didn't exactly care either. Extra luggage was extra luggage, no putting a good spin on that inconvenient truth. He figured the sooner they figure out what the heck was going on the sooner he can get out and back to what he did best: Make loads of money off suckers.

Cynthia smiled as the siblings talked. They seemed close, very close. Turning, she saw the huge bear ambling out of the trees, sniffing at the dead creature on the leaf floor. It sniffed the air as well and growled a little. Padding over to Walter, she smiled again. It felt like she was bubbling, even though this was supposed to be an asylum. She wondered what Walter was using the tusk for and looked at him quizzically. "Uh, Walter? What are you doing with the tusk?"

She looked at the new girl. Rush, wasn't it? Rush was clutching a sword sheath, a dark blue covering for some sort of sword. Cynthia wondered how many people here had killed. She shuddered a little, hoping that she wasn't a new target. Cynthia's bubbling joy returned quickly, though and she bounced on her feet to stay awake. The muggy air was slowly lulling her to sleep, but the girl didn't want to sleep until she knew that her throat wouldn't be slit while she slept.

Cynthia smiled as the bear sniffed Rush, the girl who was apparently close to Soul in some way. She stepped over to the massive silver beast and stroked its soft fur as it began to lick Rush, like a dog.

The bear stood on its haunches suddenly, sniffing the air and growling a bit. It ambled into the brush again and came back just as quickly, an elephant-sized deer being dragged behind. The bear dropped the dead animal and huffed. It pushed it in the group's direction, like the bear had just caught them dinner. Cynthia laughed.

The silver animal pulled the carcass towards Rush. It seemed like there was some sort of peace offering being given. Cynthia wondered if this was normal magical beast behavior. She wondered if they should build a fire, to cook the meat. However, Cynthia had nothing to light a fire with. "Who's hungry?" she asked, smiling to herself. These people could definitely be good friends, given time.
