Isole

M, controls ice, nickname Soul, brother of Aarush.

0 · 192 views · located in The Forest Asylum

a character in “Forest Asylum”, as played by IvyCoppersky

Description

Name: Isole Tori, meaning 'Ice ruler bird', but his friends just call him 'Soul'.

Gender: M

Age: 18

Appearance: He is tall and lanky, though strong enough - not to say he's weak, though, quite the opposite. He specializes more with pin-point accuracy, speed, and turning his opponent's strength against themselves than with the kind of strength to, say, punch through a boulder. He is incredibly agile and co-ordinated. He has light brown hair and light mist-blue eyes.

Personality: A bit reserved around strangers, coming off as cold and indifferent, but once you get to know him, he is smart, creative, a bit playful, and daring, though still pretty quiet. He is passionate about his likes and dislikes, though he rarely outwardly shows that. Soul is completely fearless when it comes to situations that don't involve girls crying, but if they do he becomes awkward and unsure what to do. He looks at things logically, easily calculating the best move in battle. His senses are very sharp, and he can feel when he is being watched. The best place to find him would be the highest vantage point, wether that's the roof of a house or the edge of a cliff. He loves the sky, especially when its raining or nighttime. If angry, his abilities tend to go a bit out of control, making the air nearby become really cold, and if angry enough frost even starts forming around him. He has high values taught to him by his karate master, whom he looks up to greatly and kind of god-worships a bit. He is very protective of those he cares about. He is extremely protective of his sister, and she is the only one he has ever really opened up to.

History: (DISTURBING CONTENT, BE WARNED.) His father was put in prison for raping a young girl before he was born, so he was raised by a single mother on a paycheck from the state. When he was four, his father got out of prison on good behavior, and for the next year his life became hell. Their state funding was cut off because his father was back, but he refused to get a job, and began abusing he and his mother. One night about a year after that, his father beat him until he was half-dead before his mother came home and saw. She screamed and ran to him, protecting him with her own body, taking his punishment for that without a single sound. In revenge, Soul's father raped and beat her right in front of him, until he couldn't take it anymore, grabbed his family's heirloom katana from the wall, and killed him. His mother, in the struggle, had been thrown aside and hit her head. He was unable to save her, and she bled out. The cops thought his mother was the one who used the katana to kill her husband, so he was not accused and was adopted by his karate master, a friend of his mother's. He began serial killing men who tormented their families, helped by his sister eventually, not getting caught until he was 18 and his sister was 15.

Weapon of choice: Sword, but thanks to his training it can be anything, really. His master trained him to be observant, and to use his surroundings as a weapon if he does not have one. He greatly prefers a Katana of about 4", which is a bit longer than a normal one. He is trained in Swords, Kamas, Staffs, Daggers, and Sais, in order from what he's best at to what he's worst at, but using anything besides his sword makes him a bit uncomfortable. He can get by with them, though.

Accusation: Serial Murder.

Ability: Soul can freeze anything solid, and it will not melt unless he lets it. He is always the first to know if rain is coming, or where the closest water source is. He can withstand any cold. If given a water source - or any other liquid, really, water is just easiest for him to control, and this includes the water in the air - he can easily form it into a weapon, but can only create ice equivalent to the water he has available, such as a giant glacier from a lake or a dagger from the air. It's limited only by supply - he would be nearly helpless without a source of liquid, so he trained under a master in swordsmanship and Tae Kwon Do.

Other: Heat makes him exhausted easily. He tends to sleep though days over 90F to avoid this.

So begins...

(Message for Felilla, because she has the PM feature turned off: The correct term is nocked. A full quiver is 12 arrows, 20 at most, it would be far to bulky otherwise. Arrows are not made of steel, it's too heavy to fly. The best arrows are made of carbon or aluminum.)

My eyes snap open, and I instantly take in my surroundings. Trees, ground, ferns... all completely unfamiliar. I reach with my right hand for the hilt of my katana... only to freeze unpon not feeling it there. I glance around frantically, finally finding it about a yard away, hidden in some brush, and quickly walk over and sling the strap over my shoulder. During these actions, my mind was on overdrive.

The last thing I remembered was the police officers running me down... I couldn't very well freeze them, that would kill them, and I was a serial murder. I didn't kill innocents. And then... darkness, and that strange voice.

Forest Asylum... fitting... I smirk wryly.

A twig snaps. I draw my katana. My eyes flick over the brush warily, and I turn to walk in the opposite direction on a slight, not-really-there path, brushing foliage out of my way with my left hand, my katana, still drawn, in my right. I hear creatures chittering in the shadows, and howls in the distance. Soon, the trees start to become more spaced-out, pines and redwoods taking over the unfamiliar jungle trees, carpeting the ground in layers of needles that muffle my already quiet steps. The tree's sharp scent comforts me - there were a lot of redwoods back home.

My eyes narrow as I see a flash of silver through the trees, and stop for a moment before choosing to head towards it. As I get closer, I realize it is some kind of creature, a bear, with a girl asleep between it's paws.

Okay then, random girl in a forest with a polar bear.

Huh. Can't say I was expecting that one.

(To BurningDark: Haha, ok, thats fine. I just thought she might wanna know that so she never tries it for real, she'll get herself killed trying. And I looked at your character sheet. You could use a better picture... and she's SIX feet tall?!? Heck, my mom is 5'9", and she could see clear over the heads of all the boys in her dance classes. Literally. XD)

Isole

I watch as the bear swivels it's head towards me, looking straight into my eyes and keeping my gaze. So, it wants to challenge me to a staring contest? Huh. Weird bear, I think. I notice the girl slowly get up and move off at an angle, in a wide circle around me. She was attempting to tip-toe, making the fallen redwood needles crackle under her steps, and I smirk, laughing slightly. With conifer needles of any kind, its best to walk normally, not on your toes. The needles naturally soften your step, making them completely soundless. But if you tiptoe, the smaller area that is pressed down on makes the needles crack, therefore making your steps three times louder. It's all about weight distribution. I remember my Master explaining to me.

I hear her creep up behind me, but don't look, not breaking from the bear's stare. It bared it's teeth slightly, warning me not to hurt the girl. I make sure that my teeth are not exposed in return, showing I have no outright malicious intent, before looking at the girl when I hear the metallic sound of metal being drawn. I turn my head to face her, keeping my hands casually in my pockets and still facing the bear.

"Who are you, and why are you here? Are you a criminal too?" The girl demands, pointing a rapier at me. I raise one brow at her, a bit skeptical that a fencing sword could face off the Katana slung over my shoulder. Rapiers, in my experience, were a bit bendy, pliable. They would be easily deflected by a Katana, not having enough strength to keep a steady pressure in a blade cross.

"I suppose I am." I reply at last. "So are you one of us, or do you live here? If your this wary of criminals, I'd say most of the criminals you meet try to attack you. You can relax. I won't. Believe me or don't, your choice." I shrug.

"I don't live here. Really, who would want to live in an asylum? I just got here about eight hours ago." The girl began, lowering her weapon. "I don't have much experience with natural landscapes or weapons. I probably couldn't do much damage anyway. I think that we're stuck here. So... what's your name? I'm Cynthia."

I smile slightly. "I could tell." I reply, nodding. "I'm Soul."

The bear moved slightly, heaving itself to it's feet, and I sharply turned back to face it, hand on the hilt of my Katana, but not drawing it quite yet. I watch the bear warily, and it in turn watches me. I glance once at the girl.

"So... the bear your pet or something?" I ask. "Cuz I think he wants to eat me... you mind calling him off? If he attacks, I'm not going to just let myself get mauled, you know."

My eyes widen faintly when I hear screaming, and I turned my head to the left so my ear was facing that direction, to better hear. Cynthia suddenly took off running, and I sigh and follow, running a bit behind and to the left. She was navigating the terrain fairly quickly, especially for someone who had never been in a proper forest. I myself easily dodged the bushes and fallen limbs, only stumbling once when I had to pretty much cartwheel down a whole tree to keep my balance, tripping slightly when I landed, but instantly regaining my stride. We stopped at a tiny semi-clearing in the trees, which had two people standing in it.

One was a male, one a strong-looking female with a bow. I could tell by the way her eyes scanned around and how she held her bow that she had experience with hunting, and therefore being in forests. If this went bad, she could be a bit of trouble. Bows were long-range weapons though, so as long as I took her by surprise, I would easily gain the upper hand by getting in at close quarters. I ducked behind a tree, scaling upwards a few branches. Humans normally looked around, down, anywhere but up. If they saw my eyes midway between the sky and ground, they would be momentarily confused, unable to comprehend danger fast enough, because they had no natural instinct to fear a creature that attacks from somewhere not above, equal, or below their line of sight.

But then, Cynthia drew her weapon and stepped out into the clearing. I reached out to try and stop her, but she was barely out of reach, and my hand couched at empty air. She pushed aside the trailing branches, loudly demanding answers. I face palmed.

And then I realized that if she was attacked, I would back her up. What the hell? I didn't usually pick my allies so easily. She was inexperienced and I didn't know her from Eve. But... her overall attitude and aura vaguely reminded me of my sister. If she was anything like Aarush, she would turn out to be the best person I could have chosen in this place. Damn my subconscious decisions, I thought, snarling slightly and silently. She seemed smart enough to learn how to survive quickly, too. I don't want her my enemy, that's for sure, so I guess I'm stuck with her as an ally. I sighed faintly in annoyance.

During my mental calculations on which side to take if a fight broke out, the three had been jabbering away like mocking birds, and were now apparently best friends. I did a double face palm this time, rolling my eyes. Yep, she and Aarush would definitely get along, I thought.

I easily leap from the tree branch into the edge of them partial clearing, vaguely annoyed now. "Great, now we're all besties, can we get going? Staying in one place and making lots of noise is probably a bad idea, you know." I say, arcing one brow slightly.

{OOC: Sorry I've been gone. I was at camp from the 21st to the 26th. But, I'm back now. Yay.}

"Great, now we're all besties, can we get going? Staying in one place and making lots of noise is probably a bad idea, you know."

Cynthia turned to look at Soul, who had one eyebrow arched. The large silver bear had also ambled up behind him, and was looking down at the group tiredly. Cynthia shrugged. "I guess we should get going. Any maps or anything?" She inquired, looking around at the lengthening shadows of nightfall. The bright eyed creatures had shown up again. They were shining like living lamps, sending beams across the forest floor. Cynthia noticed that all of the beams were leading vaguely in the same direction. Could it be a sign, or was this whole asylum place going to her head? Cynthia shrugged and motioned for the others to follow as she walked in the direction of the lights.

(Yay! Hopefully everyone else will come bcd and actually POST something, too!)

(Warning: Blood. Tried not to make it TOO gory, though. But it's still pretty gory. ^.^)

Isole

I fall into step near the back of the group, carefully focusing on my senses, hearing and seeing things moving out in the first. A giant growl, the far-away screech of a hunted animal, the faint scent of blood in a low dug-out grass cave we passed, no doubt the former den of some creature. The shuffling and movements of the other humans.

Time passed. The sky grew no lighter. We continued to follow the faint drifting creatures. To where, none of us knew.

A faint, familiar scream rang through the trees from the distance, and I stopped, suddenly on high-alert."Cynthia.. did you hear that?" I called to her, where she was talking to the two others quietly. Or not so quietly at some points, but girls will be girls.

Again, I heard the scream, off to the left. I unsheathed my sword, holding it carefully away from my side, darting away into the woods, stepping carefully and soundlessly over sticks and dips in the ground filled with fallen leaves. Though being careful slowed me down to jogging pace as I slipped in a half-crouched running form through the trees, I had to be careful with my approach.

After five minutes, I caught a glimpse of something between the trees. A familiar form, clashing with some kind of twisted, ugly boar/kangaroo cross. It was horrifying to look at. Poor wretched creature...

The person fighting was a girl, her hair short except for a small braid in the front. Her face was painted in a snarl, but she was smiling as she bared her teeth at the thing, a growl rumbling in her throat. she was crouched, observing her opponent warily but with eyes gleaming with excitement. Her hand were posed in a practiced front stance form, except for her fingers being curled, bearing nails as weapons that were already covered in red, the same red that dribbled from her mouth, which she had obviously used to bite the thing. And judging by the chunk missing from the creature's throat, succeeded in using.

I leapt forward, a flash of the sword cutting a tear in it's side as it jumped away too slowly. I saw the girl bear her teeth again out of the corner of my eye, growling like a crazed animal as she back away, cradling her wrist. I rushed the creature, angry now, but was too far away to land a blow. I swung my sword anyway... and watched, a bit surprised, as as a crescent of ice folioed its path, extending out from the edge of the blade and reading far enough to cut the creature's whole front open, a sight that might make anyone else sick as the guts... (censored). Turning away, I walked to the girl. "You ok Rush?"

She nodded, calm now, a smile on her face.

"I'm fine, thanks." She said sweetly.

{OOC: Oh. Oh my...}

Cynthia shut her mouth as soon as the scream sounded. I heard Isole saying something, but my brain was too busy being scared to register the words. She followed, watching a girl fighting some odd kangaroo cross... boar, maybe. The creature seemed to be losing, and Cynthia turned away as the blade of ice cut through it. Isole walked towards the girl, like he hadn't just seen the crazed female take a chunk out of the thing's throat. Cynthia shrugged and walked towards the two. "You... You know each other, I assume?" Cynthia asked, hoping she wasn't the next target.

(Mwahahahaha! I noticed a few typos re-reading it today, though, sorry about those. I don't have spell check. :P)

(Ah, gore. Its so much fun to use it to mess with people's minds...)

Isole

Rush carefully touched her left wrist, which was swelling. She glanced at me, her calm demeanor reassuring me it was just a sprain, before she turned her head away to spit out some of the creature's blood. "Grooooooss." I hear her grumble.

"You... you know each other, I assume?" Cynthia said hesitantly, seeming a bit afraid.

"Ah - that is correct. Cynthia, this is my sister, Aarush." I said, gesturing from her to Rush, sword in hand. Then I take a soft rag out of my pocket and carefully wipe down the sword, sheathe it to free my hand, and take the tiny bottle of oil I had found in my pocket upon waking out. I put a tiny dab on the cloth and put the bottle away, unsheathing my sword to spread the oil thinly across the edge of the blade, where the tip had raked through the thing.

During this, Rush introduced herself. "Hello." She said, bowing at the waist with her eyes up. "I'm Aarush, but please call me Rush."

At my glance, she turned to me and bowed with her eyes down, striking a casual pose once she stood. "Thanks for the help, Sunbae. But where did you find your Katana? I woke up, and mine... was not there..." She said nervously, hand unconsciously moving to her waist to grasp at the air where her sword usually hung.

"It was lying on the ground near me." I explained. "I panicked a bit at first, too, but it was there, simply hidden. The others we have met here have weapons too, ones that were on their person when they woke that they have never seen before."

"Do you think they hid ours because they were ours before... this place?"

"Possibly."

Rush glanced at Cynthia. "What do you think? I woke up when that creature attacked me, but looking around I don't see my Katana. You've been awake longer than me, so whats your thoughts on that?" She asked, curious about an outside opinion.

#, as written by Zalgo
"Great, now we're all besties, can we get going? Staying in one place and making lots of noise is probably a bad idea, you know."

Some guy who decided to make his big reveal showed up.
"Yeah, sure, pretend you didn't basically just rephrase what I just said." Walter rolled his eyes at the wannabe ninja. His words falling on deaf ears they idly started in a direction, the lot of them walking on to their destination. He wasn't much too worried about the new guy but if this stranger was too much an issue he'd just split paths with the group and do his own thing. After all, none of them were all too attached to just say bye and forget each other even existed. At least, that's how he saw it. He worked best on his own skills and he wasn't gonna let the brooding edgy kid cramp his style.

As they were about to get anywhere there was mortal combat going down not too far ahead. Clearing out from the foliage he could see some random girl fighting a screwed up looking kangaroo thing. Before he could put his two cents in on the subject the only other guy in the group rushed to her aid. A shame really. He analyzed the situation at a lightning fast pace. I wish we'd of shown up a bit later so it'd already of finished her off before that putz finished off whatever the heck that dumb looking wrinkly thing is. Two birds, one stone and I wouldn't of even had to have lifted a finger. Oh well, guess not all wishes come true. He saw an opportunity to cut down on competition slip past. Yeah, this guy was probably gonna cramp his style. In any case he did away with the pitiful creature fast enough. Oh look, ice powers, guy thinks he's a ninja, whatever. Basically summed up his recollection of the fight.

As the creatures intestines spilt to the floor, the animal itself collapsing over the pile of it's own guts gurgling a wounded cry in it's own defeat, he just strolled up to the sad soon to be dead thing. He wasn't even phased by the brutal gore caused by the animal's wound. Meh. I'm a modern gamer, I've seen worse and rendered nearly as well as this. Can't say I'm not already desensitized to this stuff. He wasn't going to let a little bloodshed break his stride anytime soon.

"You... You know each other, I assume?" Cynthia asked the most redundant question ever considering the guy knew the girls name. He just rolled his eyes, starting on this thing's tusk since they looked much too useful to waste.

He started by cutting away the excess which was between him and the piece of it's face he actually wanted. Nothing of his was getting bloody since any time blood came in contact with his stuff it turned to water. That made dirty work far more tolerable. Eventually he found the base of the tusk itself. After a bit of chipping he eventually pried the ivory prize from it's mouth. With some time and effort he now had a little something to help out. Now to check one important detail.

Yup, it's hollow... mostly. He was happy to see this beast's tusk was the hollow type but it still had some unpleasant stuff like nerves and stuff which he could honestly do without. He scooped up some of the beasts own blood from it's torso which ran free with the stuff with it's own horn. Once in the horn the blood quickly became a potent drain cleaner AKA sulfuric acid which he gently swirled around inside. The inside of the horn burned and hissed like someone was cooking steaks inside it. After a short while when the loud sound of acid eating flesh became a bit quieter he figured he'd turn this stuff into something else before it started to eat through the tusk as well. Quickly any and all acid within the horn turned into harmless water.

He dumped the fluid out over the now dead creatures face, the water and what little was left of the inside contents of the horn spilling into it's ugly dark brown fur. Now he had exactly what he wanted: a practical cup for holding fluids. Now, time to get myself a proper drink to celebrate my own ingenuity. He was fairly certain he missed most if not all of what the others were talking about but he didn't exactly care either. Extra luggage was extra luggage, no putting a good spin on that inconvenient truth. He figured the sooner they figure out what the heck was going on the sooner he can get out and back to what he did best: Make loads of money off suckers.

(Taw Kwon Do, what my character practices, is Korean, not Japanese, Zalgo. Nothing to do with ninjas. XD)

(Oh, and to answer a question about my last post, Sunbae is basically a term you use for the most experienced student, who stands at the front when the class in in formation. Sunbae is the less formal term for it, at used only for people you are good friends with, otherwise its Sunbanim.)

Third Person P.O.V.

While she spoke, Aarush began looking around carefully, scanning the bushes and leaves for the gleam of polished wood, which made up the sheathe for her sword.Finding nothing, she frowned anxiously, once again circling the clearing, not noticing Walter's efforts with the horn as she passed by. She prodded at leaves, parted bushes, walked out a few years into the forest... nothing. Still nothing. In a strange place, a dangerous one, she was unarmed. A shiver unconsciously found its way down her back.

Reaching into her pocket, she found the same things Soul had - a tiny bottle of weapon oil and a soft cloth. It has to be here somewhere! Please! She pled in her mind. But after yet another circuit of fruitless searching, her anxiety was through the roof. She was almost about to cry... she hadn't cried in two full years...

"Rush." Soul's faintly, unnoticeably to others, amused voice intoned. She looked to him. He pointed upwards. She looked up at the tree branches, and could faintly make out... the gleam off her dark blue sheathe, caught on the first two branches of the tree, right above her head.

"...Oh." She blinked, then darted forward and launched herself up, catching one of the branches in one hand and tugging it down, falling along with a few leaves as it came loose. She quickly regained her footing, dusting herself off, flushing with embarrassment, and held her sword gently to her chest before strapping it to her waist with a sigh of relief.

Cynthia smiled as the siblings talked. They seemed close, very close. Turning, she saw the huge bear ambling out of the trees, sniffing at the dead creature on the leaf floor. It sniffed the air as well and growled a little. Padding over to Walter, she smiled again. It felt like she was bubbling, even though this was supposed to be an asylum. She wondered what Walter was using the tusk for and looked at him quizzically. "Uh, Walter? What are you doing with the tusk?"

She looked at the new girl. Rush, wasn't it? Rush was clutching a sword sheath, a dark blue covering for some sort of sword. Cynthia wondered how many people here had killed. She shuddered a little, hoping that she wasn't a new target. Cynthia's bubbling joy returned quickly, though and she bounced on her feet to stay awake. The muggy air was slowly lulling her to sleep, but the girl didn't want to sleep until she knew that her throat wouldn't be slit while she slept.

(shortie, lol.)

Rush

A rustling in the brush to my left caught me off guard, and I leapt away and turned to face it, then blinked in astonishment. "... A... polar... bear?" I asked in utter confusion. A polar bear. In the middle of the jungle-type forest around us.

"Ah, I saw it earlier. It's Cynthia's." Soul provided, gesturing to the female that had entered the clearing with him. I quickly nodded in understanding, then cautiously approached the bear.

"Uh... good teddy-weddy... I'm, uh... your friend... please don't eat me..." I said soothingly, holding out a cautious hand to it.

Cynthia smiled as the bear sniffed Rush, the girl who was apparently close to Soul in some way. She stepped over to the massive silver beast and stroked its soft fur as it began to lick Rush, like a dog.

The bear stood on its haunches suddenly, sniffing the air and growling a bit. It ambled into the brush again and came back just as quickly, an elephant-sized deer being dragged behind. The bear dropped the dead animal and huffed. It pushed it in the group's direction, like the bear had just caught them dinner. Cynthia laughed.

The silver animal pulled the carcass towards Rush. It seemed like there was some sort of peace offering being given. Cynthia wondered if this was normal magical beast behavior. She wondered if they should build a fire, to cook the meat. However, Cynthia had nothing to light a fire with. "Who's hungry?" she asked, smiling to herself. These people could definitely be good friends, given time.
