The kits and Nightfur played and had their fun, but got hungry, and they had only caught one mouse's tail and a cricket. They resorted to walking back to the adults and getting their food from them. Nightfur didn't mind though. Food was food, and she loved food! After their snack, Nightfur got bored of the group, and wandered around the camp. She took a deep breath in, and let it out again. She sighed, sad because any kit caught trying to go out without an adult or a teen would be sat back in the den for a day. So Nightfur sighed and walked over to Snowpaw's den. She flopped down next to them, and they sat together in silence for a while, only talking for a few brief sentences each such as"How's the other kits?" and "Have there been many wounded cats lately?". It wasn't exactly gripping, but they both didn't really know what to say, so they sat there, and basked in the sun.

Hazel Leaf used her hind legs to scratch at the underbelly of the badger and managed to get it off. The badger came charging at her again and she hit its nose with her claws out leaving a big scrape across its muzzle. The badger screeched angrily and bit her leg. Hazel Leaf yowled in pain. "You stupid badger!" She yelled. She scratched at both of its eyes and it let go. Before she could attack back, the badger came around and made a claw mark down her side. Now she was angry, despite her hurt leg, she jumped on the badger sinking her teeth into its neck area. The badger tried to get her off but it was no use. Soon after, the badger was dead on the forest floor.
"Thats what you get when you mess with me." She mumbled to the already dead badger. She began to limp back to camp and her leg and side began to bleed. She soon reached camp and began to limp back to the adults den.
She got to the clearing without getting lost this time, and bounced over to the tree. She saw Kioni sitting on a branch and clambered up next to him. "Hey Kioni!" She grinned and pawed his ear, one of the few things that wasn't wounded. "Are you better? I hope you are! Ooh ooh ooh! Guess what?! In a couple of weeks I'm going to be a teen like you!" She grinned and sat in her little hollow. She smiled, and groomed herself. "All the others say I have to act more mature now, but I'm not sure I want to." She huffed and flopped her head down. She smiled at Kioni, and batted at his tail. "I'm not supposed to be out here, but someone said they saw the badger running far far away on the same day you attacked it! So they think it might be saferish." She wriggled and got into a comfortable position, ready for Kioni's responses and news from Riverclan.
Are you better? I hope you are! Ooh ooh ooh! Guess what?! In a couple of weeks I'm going to be a teen like you!" She grinned and sat in her little hollow. She smiled, and groomed herself. "All the others say I have to act more mature now, but I'm not sure I want to." She said.
"well, If you act too mature you won't be any fun" He said with a smirk. "I just became a teen about a week ago, so you aren't much younger than i am" He said. Kioni was a pretty big cat so he didn't look like a teen.He looked like a full blown adult. And he wasn't even done growing yet. "Anyways, i'm fine. You and your friend did a great job healing me up. Thank you. " He said with a big smile on his face. "So! What would you like to do today Nightfur?" He asked ready to play.
She started on the ivy, then sat on a branch, looking for the next branch to jump to. She saw it, and leaped, gripping onto the moss and lichen. She giggled, hearing Kioni climb up a different route be hind her. She leaped onto a new branch, and used the spring back up to jump higher to a normally hard to reach branch. She then scrambled into a hollow and climbed up through a tunnel some animal had made, leading out higher up the tree. She then leaped onto an unusually large knot, and clambered up another spot of ivy to a small branch, only a few branches below the highest branch. This was as fr as she could go. "DONE"
She rushed over to it, and desperately tried to claw it out from under the branch, she tried moving the branch off, abut it was no use. The branch was almost thicker than the tree trunk, and was not budging. Even if an adult helped it probably wouldn't. Nightfur used her hole strategy, and it worked. she pulled out the wool ball, finding it to be ripped in half by bar and twigs. Her body shook slightly as she cried. The wool ball and the tree had been so special to her, they were both the first two things for her to know and own in this forest. This tree had been the one she had collapsed at when she was just a few weeks old, and the wool ball had been her first claim from her first adventure on her own. She felt the tree's pain too for some weird reason. She closed her eyes and outright wailed. She could hear the other trees and the fallen tree crying too. "They're crying Kioni..." She lokoed at him over her shoulder and realized he couldn't hear it. She gasped inwardly, realizing what her power was. I can hear, feel, and speak with the trees... I'm one with the trees... She cried some more. So many emotions had racked her body these past two days. Joy, fear, panic, worry, and sadness. She just couldn't handle it.

She eventually found an abandoned rabbit den, where she hunkered down, digging it a little larger. She curled up, and let out her emotions. It's all wrong, it's all my fault, and it's not good at all... She sighed, and put her head up as high as she could in an old rabbit den. She groomed herself, and decided to try out this new power of hers. She closed her eyes, and let open her mind.Hello? I think this is what I did before... She gasped slightly as she felt and heard all the trees suddenly in her head.they soon hushed down like the clan did right when the leader was about to speak. The young furred one has found us...
She was puzzled until she realised they were talking about her.Yeah I'm here. I want to know what this power can do and stuff... I'm just really confused at the moment, stuff has happened and my body is changing- Yes child, we know what is happening. She sighed in relief, not having to explain everything. Child, Birkita's falling was not your fault. She has been around since your clan began, and it was time for her essence to return to the earth. Her name was Birkita? I didn't even know...It was not for you to know I had a name my dear. Nightfur gasped physically and mentally as She felt Birkita's spirit come to her.
Birkita! I'm sorry...No child, it was not your fault or your friend's, it was time for me to go back to the earth like my ancestors have done. Nightfur smiled in relief. You can still speak to me, but it might be hard to find me. I'll try and make myself heard for you.Ok. I'll be sure to Birkita. Nightfur paused.Birkita?Yes dear? Who found me?I don't know your clan's names, but it was a male, and he had white paws and eyes not too different from yours my dear. Oh. Thank you Birkita.Do not worry my child. Also, your friend is at a tree not too far away. I'll show you. Nightfur's mind was invaded by the mental image of a tree she had seen before. Thank you. What will I be able to do with this power? She heard the trees speak among themselves, obviously trying to remember what she could do.For now, you can only climb us well, and speak with us, and see and feel us. But when you're stronger, you can bend our branches with our consent, and even become one with us. but that will take time little fur. Nightfur sent out her feelings of understanding and a mental image of her nodding. She is powerful and talented all ready... She felt proud of herself, and said goodbye. She crawled out of the old rabbit den
She stood up, and shook out her fur of dust and dirt. I better go to Kioni. Bye Birkita. Felling her friend say goodbye, and embracing her with her strong homeliness, she set off to the tree Kioni was waiting in for her. She ran, and laughed all the way, relieved and joyful. She arrived at the tree, skidding to a halt, sending leaves floating and flying away in little tornadoes. "KIONI!!" She grinned and bounded up the tree, and felt it help her along with encouraging feelings and making it's bark easier to grip. She landed on the branch right next to Kioni, and hugged him tight."Kioni..."
" Uh...Nightfur? what exactly are you doing right now?" Kioni was confused, no one had ever hugged him before. The river clan cats weren't ones that showed much affection toward one another so Kioni had never received a hug before. regardless he hugged her back, liking the feeling of being close to someone for once. "Hey...i'm really sorry that i broke your tree..." he said, his ears went back and his face went sad. "I tried to replace it...i hope you like it. " He said as he let go of her and turned her around to look at the tree. He was nervous, what if him trying to replace the tree just made her mad at him? He waited nervously waiting for her to respond.
She hugged him again, and even licked him this time. "I'm sorry for being so grumpy and stuff, but lots of stuff is happening..." She coughed awkwardly, hoping he understood what she meant. "You know with my body and things..." She looked down at the bark, and shuffled her feet. "But anyway, thank you so much Kioni!" She laughed and batted his nose. "I sometimes forget you're not that much older than me. You're so big and... Grown up!" She chuckled, knowing Kioni was almost the opposite. She Grinned and hugged him, glad he still wanted to be friends.
"It's even the same feel as the old one!! Thank you." She said. Kioni just smiled.
"I'm sorry for being so grumpy and stuff, but lots of stuff is happening..." She coughed awkwardly, hoping he understood what she meant. "You know with my body and things..." She looked down at the bark, and shuffled her feet. "But anyway, thank you so much Kioni!" Kioni's smile faded a bit when she stated that he was having body changes. Kioni had just gotten over all that a week ago and didn't want to be reminded of it.
"I sometimes forget you're not that much older than me. You're so big and... Grown up!" The smaller cat said.
"Well i don't know aout me being "grown up" but, I'm definitely big." He said grinning. Nightfurn hugged him again and he hugged her back. Then she licked him. Kionis eyes got kind of wide, he definitely wasn't used to that. He wasn't sure what to do so he licked her back on the cheek. "Well I'm glad you like it. I was afraid that you would hate it." He chuckled.
"But I guess my clan can be fun. There's lots of people willing to play, but sometimes they're a tad boring." She shrugged and decided to run along a fallen tree beside the path. "Anyway, what's your clan like? It must be cool to have such a loose clan like yours." She smiled, and jumped up onto another tree, running along it's lowest branches. This one was fairly young, only 10 years old. Not very much for a tree. She realised she was getting ahead of Kioni, and resorted to the ground again, landing with a gentle thud next to him.
"So why exactly do you like to hang around with me huh? Am i just so attractive that you can't stay away?" He smirked and nudged her. He was joking but nightfur didn't know that. He was going to have fun with that joke.
How DARE he? Angry thoughts boiled over in her head, and her expressions stayed the same; angry. But if that's the only reason I hang out with him, what's that weird feeling i get when I see him? Berkita? Are you there? I'm sorry child. All I can tell you is that only you must discover and accept these feelings. Nightfur was disappointed, but knew her almost motherly friend was right. Only she could do this. It was her feelings after all. Is this what a crush is? Is this falling in love? No... It can't be...
' I thought she liked me at least a little...guess i was wrong...she could never like me, i was stupid to think she would...' He thought out loud. He didn't think Nightfur would hear him since he had gotten up a tree farther away from hers. He layed down in a large hole in the tree hiding himself from the world. She was really mad at him, he was afraid that he had messed up again with his one and only friend in the entire world. Kioni felt like crying, but didn't. He didn't understand why but Nightfur had become very important to him in a very short period of time. He had never felt these emotions before and it scared him.
