Short, Echo has always been small.

{☛ ⓌⒺⒾⒼⒽⓉ ☚}
Isn't it rude to ask a lady her weight?

{☛ ⒽⒶⒾⓇ ⒸⓄⓁⓄⓇ ☚}
Her hair is the color of white so light it almost appears to reflect the colors that bounce around it. Some might say that Echo's hair is a rainbow, a multitude of hues, when in truth, it is merely a silvery white.

{☛ ⒺⓎⒺ ⒸⓄⓁⓄⓇ ☚}
Her eyes are tinged pink, soft, inquisitive. They most always hold fear or tears in them.

{☛ ⒷⓄⒹⓎ ⓂⒶⓇⓀⒾⓃⒼⓈ ☚}
Echo has scars all over her body. She was tortured for nearly three years and bears the evidence of it on her body.

{☛ ⒼⒺⓃⒺⓇⒶⓁ ⒶⓅⓅⒺⒶⓇⒶⓃⒸⒺ☚ }
When a demon experiences terrible trauma, it is not uncommon for their physical traits to change to reflect the change. Echo's body has slowly morphed, changing almost completely. She looks nothing like her old appearance, as though she has evolved into a completely different person. Her skin and soft and porcelain, marred by the scars that have been inflicted upon her. The largest one is on her stomach, from the time she had been poisoned and had to have extensive surgery to fix her insides. Echo's head is perfectly ovular, set with two pink gem stones for eyes. Her lips are thin and tremble easily, while her nose is as small as a button. Like most demons, Echo's ears are pointed; which is what set them apart from humans. Echo's hair is a silvery white, but in the light, it reflects the multitude of colors surrounding her, which can make it look pink or purple.

Now, let's move on to Echo's, erm, peculiarity. Normally, protruding from her back are what almost appears to be two black figures made up of bones, but they were sawed off during her time in captivity. Hanging from these are a multitude of gems, each one representing a different element. Each time one is used, a gem is broken and it can take up to one full day for a gem to regenerate. Hidden underneath her clothing is not one, but two features. One being her tail, which ends in a spade-like shape. This too, was clipped while captive. The other being two slightly pointed ears that at a first glance, are easy to miss.

So I heard you are my sister's friend
You get along quite nicely
You ask me why I cut my hair
And changed myself completely

I don't know my name
I don't play by the rules of the game
So you say I'm just trying
Just trying

I am lost trying to get found
In an ocean of people
Please don't ask me any questions
There'll be a valid answer
I'll just say,

That I don't know my name
I don't play by the rules of the game
So you say I'm just trying

So you say, I'm not trying
But I'm trying

Echo had always been the black sheep of the family. Deemed a failure at birth, she was destined for a life in the East Tower. There, Echo was subjected to experiment after experiment. She grew up in a cage, her sisters occasionally visiting to check up on her progress. It was a life that did not allow much freedom, but Echo did not mind it because she had never known anything else. She was never supposed to be summoned and yet, the first time she had done so, Echo was eager. Her sisters rooted her on, training her on what to expect and prepare for. Echo merely wanted to please her first Master, who was only interested in the demon to use as a tool. She made Echo sleep at the foot of her bed and if she was bad, on the floor. Still, the demon did as she was told, not wanting to go back to the East Tower. It was due to Echo's failure that her first Master had died, having been possessed by the whims of a Baron and forced to slaughter her Master with her own hands.

They did not hold it against the little blonde demon, knowing that she had, had no will power. Still, the Tower Society kept a close eye on her. Her second Master was not much better, but Echo still preferred being bound to him rather than being subject to experimentation in the East Tower once more. Echo was fine with it, so long as she had warm food in her belly and was able to sleep late on the weekends. He hit her, but made Echo promise never to tell anyone. She agreed, taking the beatings silently and hiding them with long sleeves and pants. It was the Director who had taken notice. He promised Echo freedom, that he would not hold it against her if she killed him. Echo followed his orders, but instead of being rewarded, she was punished and sent to the East Tower once more. The Director freed her after nearly a year and contracted Echo as his side demon, to perform the work he did not want to dirty his hands with.

It was Addison LaFleur who approached Echo, the demon still swayed by pretty words. When chaos broke loose during the Second Impact, Addison gave Echo a knife to protect the Director. The knife was cursed and instead of protecting him, Echo killed him in front of everyone, sealing her fate. She was done with humans and cursing the world, was dragged into isolation. Back to the East Tower, where she was awaiting a match to breed. Echo spent her time behind bars, devouring books and food, allowed to shower once a week and use the bathroom three times a day. It was not an ideal life, but the demon figured it was better than being tethered to a human.

Until Flourspar came along. Echo did not like her, at first. She was mistrusting of the kindness, believing Flo to be disingenuous and far too giving. Echo warmed up to her soon enough and was forced to watch as Flourspar became Baroness Zinnia. After the Third Impact, her life was further turned upside down and Echo was now bound to Hawk. The two set off to Berlin to help face off against the vampire threat that began to overtake the humans. The two were captured by Iflet Seylum and held in the basement of the Seylum mansion. Echo was tortured for information, not only by Iflet, but by the other demons. Echo would not give them what they wanted and between torture sessions, Iflet would force toxins into her body to keep her sedated. She lived in a world of nightmares for three years and Hawk, having been turned into a vampire, was unable to help her.

Freed once and caught again, Echo was forced beneath the thumb of Baron Lipidus. He ravaged her body, hoping to impregnate her with an egg. At this point, Echo felt numb. Catatonic to the world and ready to die, she was rescued again by her sister Melody. Scientist Wei deemed her unfit for duty, beyond the hope of recovery, Echo was now slated to be sent to a demon rehabilitation center in Norway.

|| The Death of a Bachelor || Panic! At the Disco ||

Echo was relived. She was not sure why she had been holding her breath, waiting to hear Flo's reaction, but Echo released everything she had been holding in, tearing up as she often did these days. Flo wanted her to get better? But what if Echo left Norway and Flo had to stay here? The little demon hugged herself, "O-o-okay," Echo nodded, glad that her closest friend wanted to help her. Or at least try to, "I-I w-w-wan-want y-o-you to c-come to-too." Echo said quietly, but she knew that Flourspar's condition was a bit more complex than Echo's. Echo, after all, was not trapped inside of her own mind and body. Even if she couldn't look anyone in the eye, touch food, or speak without stuttering, she could still interact, somewhat with the world around her.

Echo nodded, Flo had told her before about Anya. Echo was glad that Flo did not have to be all alone in there, since Echo could not be with her all the time. "N-n-no, I-I've ne-never se-seen her." Echo fidgeted with her hands, she could still feel her legs of course, but with the severe muscle atrophy they were no more than dead weight. It was clear that Flo was struggling with something and in that moment, it became apparent that Flo too, as much as she pretended to be, was not okay. Echo's expression fell, just a bit. They were broken, the two of them. It was like looking in a glass mirror that had been dropped, shattered fragments in a barely held together frame.

"I-it-it'll b-b-be ok-okay," Echo was beginning to cry again. She looked down at her lap, her hands no longer fidgeting, but balling into fists in her lap. "Y-yo-you-you'll b-b-boun-bounce ba-back." Echo whispered, her voice hoarse. "I-I th-thin-think w-we sh-should a-ask El-Elliot f-f-for he-help." He was really nice, even if Oliver was always scowling at them. Echo had the distinct sense that Oliver did not enjoy working for Elliot and was only there because he was a forced contract. The demon shook her head, wishing that she was brave enough to reach out and touch Flo's arm, to try to reassure her friend that everything would be okay.

The demon stiffened, then shook her head once more. "N-no," Echo whispered softly. She remembered her past life of course, ever since the surgery. She remembered what past Echo had done. Flo had not wanted her, Flo was nearly a demon herself. In that mindset, Echo had not understood what was wrong with her, only that Flo had rejected her. She had thought herself to be useless and tried to scale the fence to freedom. "I-I did-didn't me-mean t-t-to d-do th-that." Echo had never gotten to explain her intentions, as she had died shortly afterwards and was reborn as Nova. "I-I wa-was tr-try-trying t-t-to es-escape. N-not di-die."

❝Does the frog know what's beyond the well?❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#FF7BC1 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #4ba348

|| The Ballad of Mona Lisa|| Panic! At the Disco ||

She was an utter failure in the end. She wasn't smart enough to manuever around her mother, around Doll, around Seele's plots. She wasn't smart enough to secure freedom for Echo where she could live without being under control of the humans. Flo's original plan, all those years ago, was to order Echo to escape far away, and then she would kill herself erase the trace to find Echo. This is, of course, after removing any possible trackers within Echo's body. But it didn't work, she didn't even get the chance to try it because Echo turned her into a demon. Flo was just too stupid to do anything right. Even now, it was proving true again. For all of her so-called intelligence, she accomplished nothing for Echo, for Echo who did everything for her.

Echo wasn't even trying to die. She just wanted to get away.

Flo could feel her chest hitching and it wasn't because of her congested lungs. Her breath was painful, her eyes shaking, she was crying but there were no tears, in this strange mental form of hers she could not truly cry. Yet she had a feeling Echo understood. "I-if - please just don't... don't get hurt again. Don't die before me. I was always... supposed to die before you, wasn't I?" From the beginning Flo was the one with the limited lifespan, and Echo was the one who had many hundreds of years to go, potentially more even. Her head was pounding, it was getting hard to think, her chest felt as if it were bursting open into bits. "Can you ask Elliot... for us?" Maybe he had an idea. "I'll ask Ayna and see... if she can do anything?"

A doctor Flo didn't recognize came around then, looking surprised as he checked Flo's heart monitor. Oddly enough, she didn't even notice it but apparently it was beeping. "Her heart rate is spiking, and there's heightened brain activity." They said though Flo could not hear any of it. "Echo, it seems like she can hear you somehow, because she's reacting you your presence." Flo closed her eyes and felt as if she were floating, drifting. What was this odd weightless feeling? "Maybe we should make these visits more frequent, perhaps there's a chance you can get awake again."

In this form Flo couldn't really sleep. She could go dormant and be still for a period of time, but it wasn't exactly sleeping. It seemed her waking periods were connected by periods of dormancy where she floats there, unable to move or think of much of anything. "Won't ever... reject again... Kuuu...?" She was already barely conscious now, fading into a resting state.

Echo shook her head, crying once more. "I-I wo-won-won't." She stuttered pathetically, feeling like a child trapped in a high chair. "I pr-pro-promise." Echo reached out and took Flourspar's hand, placing it against her heart. She wasn't sure if Flo could feel it, but Echo could feel Flo's pulse beneath her fingertips and it calmed her. "I-I'll a-a-ask hi-him," Echo said quietly as a doctor strode in. Elliot, followed by Oliver, who was glowering. He gently checked Flo's heart rate, noting that she was responding to a presence for the first time since arriving. "Echo, what do you two talk about?" Elliot inquired and Oliver snorted in response. "F-Flo l-lik-likes t-t-to kn-know what-"

"Stop stuttering you stupid brat," Oliver hissed.

"Hey!" Elliot snapped to his demon, who flinched in response. "That's not anyway to talk to Echo, apologize."

"Sorry," Elliot grumbled.

"Nicer."

"Sorry!" Oliver stormed out, Echo tearing up once more. The nurse walked over to comfort her, patting Echo's head, who flinched at the touch. "He doesn't mean it, Oliver is just a big baby." Elliot tried to reassure her as he turned back towards Flo, "F-Flo do-don-don't go-go ye-yet." Echo begged, but she was already gone. "So you can speak to her?" Echo nodded in response, releasing Flo's hand. "W-we t-tal-talk al-alot." Echo whispered, "a-abo-about ever-er-everything." Elliot nodded, his smile gentle. "I'll make sure you two can have more frequent check in's then." He turned to leave, the nurse wheeling Flo away. Echo's nurse came to take her, it was group therapy time. She had made a promise after all and Elliot had aid that the first step to getting better would be to be around other people.

"Everyone we have a new face in the group today!" Elliot clapped his hands together to get their attention, Echo flinched, they were sitting around one of the circle tables today, their group having grown by one member. "Do you want to introduce yourself?" She was ethereal, one of the most beautiful demons Echo had ever seen. Her hair was white and reflected the sunlight, her eyes a rose colored red. "Hello everyone," her voice was heavenly and the whole table was enamored. "My name is Angel," she fidgeted with the white gown she was wearing. Everyone else wore their own clothing, but it seemed Angel had no one to bring her, her belongings. "I don't have any memories, but I'll do my best not to forget any of you!"

❝Does the frog know what's beyond the well?❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#FF7BC1 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #4ba348

|| The Ballad of Mona Lisa|| Panic! At the Disco ||

The dragons grazed on the snowy grass of Sweden's fields. The battle was won, and humanity was forced to fall back. They would not get to save Europe, Queen Kitra was not going to let them do that so easily. "Sis, what should we do?" Lilim asked, twiddling her thumbs. Raphael was drinking tea next to her as the other demons cleaned up the battlefield. The angels didn't officially approve of this war, so Raphael had come wearing a demon costume to support his wife, and to help "What do we do with him?" She pointed at their prisoner who was bound and chained and forced on the ground. A tall lanky boy glared at them but remained silent. His demon was cursing a storm, naturally. "Calciferous Graves. Do you not know who your Queen is?"

Calciferous Graves did not seem very intent on listening to her. "I won't join you, Queen! I have a human to protect!" He struggled and thrashed but would not submit no matter how Minerva held him down. "I can see that." Kitra sighed, shaking her head tiredly. They were trying to capture the English Princess Charlotte as a prisoner of war this battle, but her guards, Calciferous and Shadow, fought nearly to the death. They were both horribly wounded before Lilim fixed them up with her magic, but now they weren't at risk of dying at least. "You tried so hard to protect that Charlotte girl. Why?" Calciferous looked at Queen Ktira as if she were crazy. "You think I'm letting you turn the Princess into a demon? No way! She's a good girl and she won't be one of us!"

Wasn't that so disrespectful? "I have no mercy for anyone who sides with the humans." Kitra growled, her scissor blades slicing Calciferous to ribbons, reducing him to nothing more than a soul piece on the ground. Messiah carefully lifted it up in a containment bag and sealed it shut. "What should we do next, Kitra?" Minerva asked, ever ready for battle. There was a reason she was the head of Hell's military. "Minerva, can you do something for me?" It would be good if they could add more demons to their roster. There were too many demons trapped on the surface, unable to return home. "Take Raphael with you and go to Norway. I heard there's a group of demons locked up in some sort of prison. We need to rescue them and take them home." Queen Kitra fought for the sake of all demons.

But even so, Baron Messiah was a mystery. He was immensely powerful of course, and a huge threat overall. But for now he was cooperating with her and working with her. If she wanted to beat Messiah, would she be able to? Honestly, Kitra wasn't sure. "Messiah, you should go with them to make sure nothing goes wrong." No doubt the crafty humans would have something planned to defend the prison facility in Norway. Messiah would serve as a failsafe to make sure nothing goes wrong on that front.

❝Why do I always end up destroying everything I've ever loved?❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#EE3B3B ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #FFCCCC

|| The Death of a Bachelor || Panic! At the Disco ||

"Lock down everything," the shutters were drawn over the windows, the rehab facility sealing itself shut. "Don't worry," Melody smiled, her sister trembling, she tried to sing a soothing song, but their sibling bond did not allow her abilities to work on Echo. "Everything will be okay," Doll's voice echoed outside, ordering the nurses to put things in order while Christopher did a perimeter check. They were defending their last facility in Europe, the UK having been won back, but the EU lost. "They'll target this place next, we need to evacuate everyone." Flame insisted, but Elliot shook his head. "The patients are very fragile, we can't just move them." The head Doctor could not simply uproot all of the mentally unstable demons they had contained here. Even now, just with the windows being closed, you could hear sobbing from almost all of the rooms.

Soothing music played through the speakers, attempting to quell them. "No one will hurt you," Melody rocked Echo back and forth in her arms, doing her best to keep Echo calm. "I promise, no one is going to hurt you anymore," Echo trembled in her arms, her hands clawing at her ears. Doll poked her head into the room, taking a break from barking orders long enough for Melody to give a shake of the head. Doll disappeared once more, Echo's hiccuping sobs quiet, as she had trained herself to cry quietly in the basement of castle Seylum. If her cries ever grew too loud, she would be punished. It was not always that vampire of course, there were plenty of demons that wanted the opportunity to pick on a King that was downed.

"N-n-no mo-more," Echo stuttered. Why was her world being shaken again? Why were things changing? Why were the windows closed? Melody slid Echo onto the mattress and tucked the blanket in around her, making sure she had her trusty bear and rabbit. "How about we unwrap presents?" They had been sitting in a pile, collecting dust in the corner. "Destroying something is a demon's first instinct, maybe ripping up the paper will help you feel better?" Melody brought over a box wrapped in silver. Echo's hands shook, weakly tugging at the gift wrap. Her tears dampened the paper enough for her to rip through it, a wooden box inside. "Open it, go on," Echo's fingers fumbled around the latch, a violin inside. "Remember how you used to play?"

The instrument clattered to the ground, Echo curling up into a ball on the bed and crying harder until she began to dry heave. "No, it's okay, hang on-" the nurse stood in the doorway, shaking her head. "That won't do," she said softly, kneeling by Echo's side. She pat her on the head, right behind her ears, giving a little scritch every so often. "Right there, that's the spot."

"I feel like a horrible sister," Melody hugged her arms across her chest. "Don't, it's my job to find out all of Echo's weak spots. The disturbance is upsetting all of the patients, but they'll get used to it within a few hours." The nurse made Echo sit up and drink a little paper cup full of pink liquid. The demon's insides felt warm almost instantly and her head began to swim, "it won't put her to sleep, but it will help her get used to the change." Echo lay back in bed, the world feeling slow and strange. She felt the tickle of oxygen in her nose and tugged weakly at the nasal cannula.

"It's okay," Melody stood over her, but she was a blur of bust and vibrant hair. A bear found its way beneath her arms, "I'll be back soon, alright?" Echo lifted a hand up weakly, watching as her sister's back turned.

"Pr-pr-pro-promise?" Echo stuttered, her sister disappearing behind a closed door.

❝Does the frog know what's beyond the well?❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#FF7BC1 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #4ba348

|| The Ballad of Mona Lisa|| Panic! At the Disco ||

The young new recruit to the Tower Society held her bow, gulping heavily. Ariel was afraid, but she was stationed in Norway to help in the defense of the facility to protect the VIPs within from the assault. The team protecting Princess Charlotte was returning to London, fleeing via the English Channel, but until then, the defense squad in Norway was going to have to hold out until a rescue operation could be done. "I'm scared." Ariel admitted, looking at her hands. Lana glanced at her and gave her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, Ariel. I'm here, so I'll protect you. If we have to, we can just escape and push everyone through my mirror, see." Lana's mirror remained in her hands, one of the biggest assets for humanity in her very hands.

Melody returned from her Echo visit, standing at attention. "Flame, are they coming? Do you see the dragons?" Flame pointed to the distance, the horizon over the mountains. He was using enhanced binoculars made by Ellen Winter, they let him see out for miles. "Baroness Minerva is coming with the dragons." Flame warned them, making sure Elliot could hear. They were standing, watching the snow fall, a platform made by the port as a fort for them to hold out within. They were badly outnumbered here. There were only six fighters here to defend against an army. "We might be outnumbered..." Miranda grit her teeth, patting her magical gun, enhanced with some sort of magic crystal from Constantina. "But we're all strong, so if we make a big show of strength we'll scare them off easily." Wicked giggled cruelly, already twirling her dark blade, the Mad Bomber General ready to go.

A legion of dragon riding demons descended upon them, attacking the fortress, just a few miles away from the care facility. Could they hear the sounds of Wicked throwing her limbs to blow up enemies? Could they see the flashes of light as Miranda fired bullet after bullet into demon's soul pieces? "Aah! Help, I'm scared!" Minerva drew her lance, bearing down on her. "Leave her alone!" Lana pushed Minerva from the back so the dragon knight spun and kicked her away. Ariel trembled, this wasn't what she signed up for. She just wanted to help, inspired by how Charlotte wanted to do more to help save humanity. That was why she joined, but she didn't want to die. "W-Wolfe, pl-please..." But Wolfe was dead, they found his severed head at Castle Seylum. Who could save her now?

A sword clashed against Minerva's lance, pushing her back. Flame was panting, injured in his arm, but he growled forcefully. "Why don't you pick on someone your own size? Leave the little one alone!" Fire burst from Minerva's hand, shooting at Flame, who ducked to dodge the attack. "You humans stole our light. So naturally, we're going to be taking her back now." The dragon knight commander spoke, too strong even for Flame to handle. "So you should all surrender and pay for your sins." Ariel whimpered, shaking. Flame had fallen to his knees, Lana hurt her leg when she was kicked, Miranda and Wicked were too far away to help... so she aimed her bow and fired, a golden arrow striking Minerva right in the chest. The dragon knight fell back, eyes wide. "Th-th-that's for Wolfe! I'll be strong a-and make him proud!" The little mermaid screamed. As their commander fell, the dragons grabbed her. "Retreat! We can't lose the commander!" Ariel fell to her knees, sobbing, wishing her father figure was here, wishing she wasn't alone anymore.

Maison Nik was not like other boys his age. Brilliant, he was praised, his testing numbers were off the chart. He was expected to rise quickly among the ranks of the Tower Society, if only his demon was more cooperative. She was a forced capture, not wishing to serve humanity, but here, despite her wishes; just like many other demons. "Polaire, you can't keep fighting me," Mason crossed his arms, having found Polaire asleep on a windowsill rather than their arranged meeting spot. "Why not?" She pouted, her rainbow hair glistening in the light. "Because we're supposed to be on our way to Norway, but instead we're here, you taking a cat nap instead of taking orders!"

"Why would I want to protect a bunch of invalids?" She asked lazily, opening up one eye. "Ultimate command, get down from there," with a hefty sigh and grit teeth, she slid down from the windowsill and collected her bag. The two had already missed their flight, Polaire made certain of that. Now they would have to take the next plane out, tomorrow. "What will we do in the meantime Master?" Polaire asked sarcastically, following behind him. "We'll train, because you're sloppy, lazy, and holding me back!" Mason snapped in reply. "You know, it won't do to have you fighting," the robotic demon, Alex Drake stopped them in the hallway. "Tell that to her," Mason crossed his arms impatiently. "Luckily, your flight was delayed, you two will make it, but you have to leave now."

"Come on Polaire, let's get to the airport." She grumbled behind him, shooting Alex a glare as the two of them stalked off to the airport. Inside of the rehab center, Polaire seemed oddly calm. She was standing at her station, Mason and Christopher talking in hushed voices. It was oddly quiet, most of the patients having been sedated because of the disturbance in their routine. "It looks like the demons are retreating for now," Doll reported, her heels clacking on the tiled floor. Elliot was in his office, Oliver standing guard. He was watching the security feed of course, making sure that the patients were all resting peacefully. Some of them could remain calm on their own, but struggled to keep their heads afloat. Others were completely defenseless.

Polaire was curious of course, as well as bored. The demons had retreated, there was no reason she couldn't explore. So while her human had his back turned, Polaire slipped down the hall, heading into the first room. This one was a girl, sound asleep and it was clear she had been napping for a very long time. Boring, Polaire thought, going into the next. "Oh, you're awake, good." Polaire smiled, this would be fun. Were these demons really crazy? "Holy shit," Polaire froze in her tracks. "Y-you-you're a Baron-Baroness," Echo blinked slowly. "Hmmm?" She giggled, the world feeling slow, her anxiety having slipped away with all of the medicine.

Polaire sneaked closer, poking the tiny demon's cheek. "Not so scary, are you? Actually, you're kinda cute, all helpless like that." Polaire tucked the blanket around Echo and placed the stuffed rabbit underneath her arm. "It's always the little ones that will kill you the fastest. Wouldn't want to get on your bad side."

"Polaire!" The demon froze, spinning around slowly. Doll, the bitch with the stick up her butt stood in the doorway. How had she sneaked up on Polaire in those six inch heels? How did her feet not ache in them no less? Polaire had no idea. "Step away from Echo."

"Echo! Oh what a cute name for such a tiny thing-"

In a half a second, Doll had grasped onto her raid gear, throwing her against the opposite wall with no effort. "Stay away from my sister," she hissed, Echo suddenly crying out. Doll turned to rush back inside of the room, Mason and Christopher standing on either side of her. "What is wrong with your as-" Mason glared, "I mean, what is up with your wife?" Polaire stood, dusting herself off.

Christopher was silent a moment, Mason helping Polaire to her feet. "Melody and Doll are protective of Echo, they raised her from an egg." A vibrant red egg, that hatched under Shiro's watchful eye. Their relationship had always been rocky, but Doll had vowed that she would not abandon Echo in her time of need again. "Now come on, let's go intake the wounded."

|| The Ballad of Mona Lisa|| Panic! At the Disco ||

Flo felt dizzy, she didn't understand what was happening. All the windows were down, metal sheets closing them down, blocking out the sun, the sky, the snowy outside. She didn't understand what was going on, but she knew it had to be some kind of emergency. Were they under attack? "Ayna? What's going on?" She called out to the other comatose patient here. Someone popped into her room there, face pensive. "It looks like the Demon Army attacked." Ayna replied, her blue hair fluttering about. Flo's eyes widened and her face went slack. "...Is Echo okay? Is she safe?" Echo was still very fragile, she may not be able to handle this kind of stimulus just yet. "I'll go check." Ayna said, flitting through the wall.

The door opened then, revealing someone. Flo turned her head to spy a familiar face - two familiar faces were here. An orderly opened the door to let them in to see her and Flo narrowed her eyes in surprise, crossing her arms. Ariel the mermaid who had given her mermaid tears to try and save her from becoming a demon, and her partner, Lana, Asmodeus's daughter, were both here to visit. Ariel touched Flo's body's cheek and said something but the pinkette couldn't hear anything that was being said. Ariel looked sad as she patted her hand, holding it tenderly. "It's okay, Ariel, it's not your fault..." Flo was uncomfortable because Ariel never really was all that close to her. They knew each other and all, but they never actually hung out together or became friends. "It's good you're still alive."

Ariel sniffled, leaving Fluorspar's room. Flo and Echo were some of the best veterans the Tower Society had. Many of their old veterans were dead and gone now. Calciferous and Shadow were taken prisoner and no one knew if they were alive or not. Silence and Pray were gone for almost four years now and there was no reason to believe they were alive at all. Flo and Echo both were out of commission and the roster was only getting smaller. "Let's go see Echo." Lana said gently, taking Ariel by the hand. "Can we go see her, Doctor?" The doctor nodded, leading the way.

Ariel and Lana arrived at Echo's room then to check in on her. "Echo, do you remember me?" Ariel asked, looking at her. "I'm, I'm Ariel. We were friends when you were Nova." Did Echo remember her? "I was the mermaid!" Her eyes were wide and hopeful, she wanted Echo to still know her. "I'm Lana, if you remember me?" The mirror demon gave a shy smile. "You killed me once or twice." It was hard for Ariel to see someone who once was so strong in a state like this. Ariel had seen Echo in infancy, and now she was shattered. "I-I'm an agent of the Tower Society now! Maybe you could... help train me and Lana one day?"

Echo's head was on Doll's lap. Melody was sitting on the end of the bed while Flame was being patched up in the next room by a nurse. Thankfully his injuries were minor. Minerva had taken the brunt of the wounds, but the demons would not stop. They would continue to press the attack, even with Minerva down. "Do you think Kitra herself will show up to the next battle?" Melody asked worriedly as Doll played with Echo's hair. "I'm more worried about Messiah," Doll admitted as Echo let out a tired cough. She felt disoriented and strange, the sedation making her head and thoughts swim. "He has powers that... make me sick," Doll's grip on Echo tightened and her little sister mewled helplessly. Melody looked pointedly at her sister, who breathed and released Echo from her grasp.

The door opened, Ariel coming in with Lana behind her, both looking hesitant and sad. "It's okay," Melody tried to smile reassuringly. "Echo remembers you," Echo made a strange sound, almost like a gurgle in the back of her throat. "She can't talk right now because she's getting silly medicine." Echo smiled a lazy smile in response, unable to string together words and form sentences. "Ahhrrfff," Echo slurred unintelligibly. Elliot watched from the doorway, his eyes widening. "A mermaid?" The cogs in his mind began to turn, "Do you think you have any tears in you?" He asked softly, kneeling to Ariel's height. The blue haired mermaid nodded slowly, "Y-yes." Almost as though on command, she began to cry. Elliot scrambled for a phial, collecting as many tears as he could and capping it.

"What are you gonna do with them?" Melody asked as Echo stirred, attempting to sit up. Elliot rose as Lana dabbed at Ariel's face. "I have two comatose patients that could use some of these," if his theory was right, the mermaid tears could help wake them up. "Frooo," Echo attempted to sit up, but Doll gently pushed her back down. "It's okay, just rest shhh," Flame strode into the room, bandaged, but looking no worse for wear. "Chris called for reinforcements, but no one's coming." It would be up to them to hold down the fortress. "What do the demons want? Why do they keep attacking?" Ariel asked, frightened. "Isn't it obvious?" Mason asked, standing in the doorway. Elliot left to distill the mermaid tears, this was not a discussion he needed to be part of.

"You have two Baroness's contained here and who knows how strong the other demons are?" Elliot could tell them, he was the one that knew everything about each of the patients. "And they have a demon that can put broken people back together," Messiah, of course, but his ability could only do so much. "I'm not going to let them get a hold of any of them," Doll would possess every demon if she had to. She would keep them away from her sisters and husband.

Echo was beginning to come out of sedation. With the crisis averted for now, the windows were allowed to open once more and light trickled into the facility. Echo felt dizzy as she fought off the wave of nausea, wanting to sit up but feeling disoriented when she tried. "Shh, it's okay, just rest, lay down." Doll urged, Melody having gone to see how Flame was doing. Christopher sat by the windowsill, Ariel and Lana going to help make a cake for all of the demons. Echo moaned pitifully. The last thing she needed was another stroke from the stress. "Just close your eyes and rest you silly demon," Doll urged, running her fingers through Echo's long hair. White from shock, was Elliot's theory. Or perhaps the blonde had simply faded to gray after not seeing sunlight for so long.

"D-d-did-did y-you wi-win?" Echo whispered, her eyes closed. "Yes," Doll replied honestly, "For now," Christopher added, watching through the window. He had that a serious look on his face, the one he most often wore when he wasn't brooding or scowling. "The demons will come back," Echo stiffened and Doll shot Christopher a glare. "We won't let them hurt you," Doll said soothingly as Echo began to shake. "I have good news," Elliot strode inside, Oliver beside him. He glared when he met Echo's eyes, the once fiery demon looking away almost immediately. "Flourspar and Ayna have awoken," Echo attempted to sit up, wanting to go to her friend immediately. "Of course, Flourspar is sleeping now because of the pain. I'm going to run some tests on both of them to see just what the extent of the damage is."

"S-s-see, I-I wa-want t-to s-s-see her." Echo attempted to sit up, "Now just hold on right there miss," Elliot strode over, hands on his hips. "You haven't drank your cup of water today," Echo looked down at her feet. "How are we ever gonna get this tube out of you if you don't eat or drink?" The demon avoided his gaze, looking at her feet. "Echo used to do this as a baby too," Doll added, "she's had an oral aversion since being reborn." Echo's cheeks turned bright red, it was true, even as a baby she had, had an NG tube. It was thanks to the efforts of Hawk and Flourspar that they had managed to get Echo to eat. "It's alright, we'll get it out of you eventually," Elliot reassured them. Echo hadn't been able to eat without throwing everything up since her arrival.

Doll and Christopher left, going to do a perimeter check. Echo transferred herself to her wheelchair, the never setting sun feeling nice on her skin after spending an entire day locked up. Elliot and Oliver too, had gone to check on the other patients. Echo went to the wooden box on the table, the one with the beautiful gold latches and velveteen inside. She opened it slowly, taking the violin out. Her hands trembled, it had been so long since she had last gotten to play. A part of her cried out in longing, recalling much more simple times when she did not remember her past self and had composed music beneath the East Tower, awaiting her match. Echo set the violin on her shoulder, pressing her chin against it. She took a deep breath and placed the bow against the strings, breathing out slowly as she played.

Christmas lights. People dancing all in a row, Melody's voice a serenade, singing for everyone here. Flo felt dizzy as she ran about the place, looking for someone in particular. Stallion had called her something weird, but that was okay, Flo didn't mind. Stallion was like one of her closest friends. Despite how abrasive she was, of course, and how mean she could be somet- oh, there she was. "Silence!" The strange dark girl that looked so much liker her yet not at the same time. Flo decided to give her a snog right on the lips, surprising the quiet girl. "That's not fair nor is it appropriate." Silence said robotically, pushing her away. The glaive-wielding girl gave her a hard stare. "You shouldn't do that." But what was the big deal? Flo probably liked her, she thought.

...

"I'll attack you three times." Silence said, her voice a clear threat, her eyes like a dagger. Her glaive almost glowed with power, the Glaive of Longinus was a mighty weapon. Flo held her nails and Annalise's Eye, gritting her teeth. "Okay, do it. I'm ready." Silence struck once, again, and one last time but Flo managed to remain standing, stabbing her foot to keep herself upright. Flo was allowed to ask one question. "Who are you?" Silence sighed, looking at her with misty eyes, putting her glaive away. "I'm Pandora Vale. I'm your cousin." Flo's heart skipped a beat and she shivered, shaking her head. "P-Pan?" But wasn't Pan dead? That's what her mother told her all this time, killed in the demon attack that took away Gerard Vale's life as well...

...

Flo's heart swelled as she looked at Silence again. After the chaos that was the Third Impact, after being imprisoned by the Kings in what used to be the Oxford Campus Tower Society building, she was glad to be here at last. Echo had become strange, horrible, this wasn't her Echo anymore. "You really should treat her better." Silence told her pointedly, frowning with thin lips. "She's your partner, not an animal." Flo grimaced, a cold chill down her spine. "No." She growled, crossing her arms. "My Echo is smarter than that! She's better, she at least can walk upright on two legs." Silence frowned, displeased. "Just be careful." The quiet girl warned. "You don't know what you have until you've lost it."

...

The Berlin Branch needed them, they needed to win this fight here if they were to save the EU from the Third Impact. Flo opened her eyes, feeling dizzy and sick. She vomited, getting up to her feet. "Echo? Echo!" Where was Echo? They had landed in Berlin to see the warzone, they were supposed to help... but where was she? It was so loud... was this the battlefield? "She's right here." Queen Kitra sneered and Flo realized she was in cuffed. Echo was bound and locked in a crate, and who knew where Hawk or Samurai were now. "Let's go, Messiah wants you both." Kitra kicked Flo in the head, her eyes making stars. "No..." A dragon had grabbed Silence by the throat, lifting her into the air. "No...!" Pan was in danger, Pan was going to die-

...

Flo woke up with a start, shaking, her whole body in agony from pain she didn't even remotely understand. Pan was gone. Pan was dead. She was dead and gone and Flo would never see her again. She shivered and trembled, curling and sobbing as silently as she could.

The song never finished. The violin clattered to the ground, Echo's breathing constricting. Why was this happening again? Her face sagged, but Echo didn't understand. Why did she suddenly feel weak and dizzy? The demon slumped against the mattress, attempting to cry out for help. "H-he-help," Echo stuttered pathetically. Her vision was going in and out, but there was no one here to intervene. The call button... that had to be close by, didn't it? Echo pressed it, but when the nurse's voice came through, she didn't know how to answer. The door opened a few minutes later, the nurse running over in alarm. "It's alright, I'm going to call Elliot." Echo could not recall what happened after, only the rush of oxygen in her nose and the relief of being able to breathe once more.

The plane touched down on the ground of Berlin, snow and ash mingling in the air. "It looks desolate," Echo noted quietly as Gwenyth fixed the badges on her lapel. "Yes, well, we'll be stationed here as long as they need us." Echo rose, slinging her bag across her shoulder. She glanced back at Flo and Samurai, giving them a two fingered peace sign. "We'll kick demon butt here too," the stairs lowered, Echo was the first one down. Her feet had barely touched ground when the world became engulfed in flames. The demon peeled her eyes open, smoke filling her lungs. Gwentyh, she had to protect her! A diamond shattered, the wind parting the ashes enough for Echo to see her human.

"I'm coming!" Water broke next, sweeping across the flames, enough for Echo to make her way to her human. "What a pathetic attempt at protection," a demon grinned. Echo grit her teeth, removing her daggers from their sheath. "I'm afraid I'll be taking those," her limbs were suddenly pinned down, a scissor held against her throat. "Let me go!" Lightning coursed through her body, but it was not Echo's. "Where is she?" The demon asked, her steely eyes meeting Echo's flame colored ones. "I don't know who you're talking about!" Echo thrashed, her wings pinned painfully behind her. "Useless," a cage opened, a tentacle dragging her inside of it, the door shutting.

"You're lucky, brat. Messiah wants you alive."

Lucky? She was lucky... "Oh, Echo!" Melody's voice filled her head, the demon wincing. The lights were too bright, the sweetly tinged oxygen too vivid. What was happening? Where was she? "You're in your room, you had another stroke," Melody spoke softly, smoothing down Echo's silver hair. Another one so soon? Her head throbbed with the intensity of the sun. "W-wh-why do-do-does thi-this ke-keep ha-happen-happening?" Echo choked, her throat dry. Melody helped her sit up and placed a cup of ice chips in her hand. Echo sucked on them hesitantly, her throat feeling a bit better. "Your shunt is probably worn down, you're supposed to have it replaced every few years." Her big sister's smile was soft. They couldn't replace it now, not while the base was under attack.

"They're not prepared for that kind of surgery here. You would have to go back to London to have it."

|| The Ballad of Mona Lisa|| Panic! At the Disco ||

"Every Director had a second-in-command, a person they trusted above all else to serve at their side. For Director Harway it was a man named Alistair, who had a hidden dark side no one but poor Echo knew about. For Director LaFleur, it was Silence who served as her shadow and performed many dark deeds in her name. Director Wei had one too, and he assigned Crescent Winter this duty. Everyone expected ice cold Ellen to be the one to be his primary assistant, but for some reason Wei thought the jubilant and bright Cress to be more suited for the role. Crescent flew into Norway in a high priority private jet, with orders from Director Wei himself. "It's good to see you, Ms. Winter." Elliot said, bowing to his superior. Cress gave him a smile even as Keron glowered behind him.

"I hate this place, it's just so cold." Keron whined. The fire demon was not good in weather like this. The two of them were noncombatants during the Third Impact under LaFleur's command - they were more often seen in the background, providing herbal medicines, or therapeutic plants and scents for anyone who needed them. "Come on, let's go inside." Cress told her partner with a wink. They entered the Norway facility with important news. "Elliot, Director Wei has decided that it's too dangerous here. In the past this place was pretty isolated, but now that the demons know, they'll keep attacking. We need to move the patients to London where they can be kept safe." Elliot raised an eyebrow, not entirely happy with that decision. "Some of them are too fragile to be moved." He told her, shaking his head. Cress smiled, raising a finger.

She learned this trick from Ellie. If you raise your finger and smile, it makes you look more confident and makes it easier to convince people you have it all figured out. Ellie was always good at little tricks like that. "We already have a facility set up where the birth mothers used to live, under the East Tower. It's made to be as comforting and as identical as possible to this place here. Using Lana's mirror, it should be easy to bring everyone back and forth." Ellen even rigged up a machine to simulate the wintry landscape that Norway offered, as it was different from London's winter. "It's too dangerous to keep them here, Elliot. You know Queen Kitra will take them and force them back onto the battlefield again." Ariel got a lucky shot once. She may not be so lucky next time.

"Let me explain to my patients what's going on then." Elliot said, finally acquiescing. "You'll be in control still buddy." Keron said with a bored yawn, scratching at the inside of her ear with a long fingernail. "They're still your responsibility." This entire area would be emptied and all forces are to withdraw to London and await the next strategy to save Europe, and then the world. Queen Kitra and Baron Messiah were the enemies. Everyone could only hope Director Wei had some plan to save them all.

Echo crushed the ice between her teeth, the sensation oddly satisfying. It had been a long time since she had attempted to eat. Doll packed up Echo's room with Christopher, Melody sitting with Echo in the infirmary, Flame drifting in an out of sleep on the spare stretcher. "So we'll be moving Echo back to London?" Melody asked, almost seeming relieved. Elliot nodded, "they'll still be under my care, but under the direct supervision of Director Wei." Echo looked down at the styrofoam cup in her hands, her entire body trembling. "It's going to be okay," Elliot spoke softly. "You'll be able to have your shunt replaced and you'll be closer to home." He smiled before he left, having to explain it to the other patients who would be anxious about the change. Melody turned to look at Echo, who was grinding ice chips in her mouth to quell her rising panic. Move? Back to London? "You'll be closer to Hawk there." Melody smiled and reached out, but Echo flinched away from her. With a sigh, the demon crawled onto the stretcher.

"You can't stop me from hugging you," Melody's arms encircled her and Echo tensed, feeling the onset of panic at being touched. "N-no le-let m-me g-g-go." Echo whispered, squeezing her eyes shut. Melody lay her head on top of her sister's, hoping to quell her fear. In the past, if she had ever tried to hug Echo, her sister would have snapped at her or tried to bite her. "It's okay, everything will be okay," but Echo didn't feel okay. Her world was rapidly coming apart again. Why? Why did this keep happening? "You're going to be alright, I promise." In the common area, Lana had her mirror prepared to send them through. The critical patients went first, they were the priority as they had to be stabilized on the other side like Flo. Next came the less critical ones, who could be quelled a bit easier and sent right to their rooms.

Then it was Echo's turn. She felt her throat constrict as Melody lifted her into a wheelchair. "Ready?" Echo shook her head, nausea making her queasy. "It'll be alright," they went through the mirror. There was a flash of bright light and nothingness, then they emerged on the other side. Familiar faces greeted them. Director Wei along with Ellen were waiting for them, a clipboard in hand. "Welcome back," Echo began to tense, the lights were too bright. The smell of floor cleaner too strong. "Let's get you to your new room." The wheelchair squeaked on the clean tiles, the floor different from Echo's other times in the East Tower. She was no longer a prisoner awaiting to become a birth Mother. Her uterus was no longer viable.

They stopped in front of a door labeled with Echo's name in pretty calligraphy, the hallway the same as the one in Norway. Melody opened the door, her belongings already having been put away thanks to her sister. On the bed were more stuffed animals, a cat and dog had joined her rabbit and bear. Melody lifted Echo up, placing her in bed. "The nurse call button is right here, don't hesitate to use it. Alright? I have to go back and make sure everyone evacuates." Echo watched her sister leave, feeling the onset symptoms of the break down. The trembling grew worse, her chest constricting. Tears flowed freely from her eyes, Echo hugging her knees to her chest. The door suddenly opened, Echo flinching. "I heard you were here," Hawk's voice was laced with worry. Flourpsar would have already been moved since she was a high priority patient.

There was a bracelet around Hawk's wrist, not a TB, but a register bracelet. "I guess you noticed," Hawk's voice was soft. She looked better, healthier, but her eyes were still red and she had canines. "I signed myself up to be a test subject. I want to be human again."

❝In the ocean of despair, what lure keeps the fish swimming?❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#FF7BC1 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #4ba348

|| The Ballad of Mona Lisa|| Panic! At the Disco ||

Through the mirror, Flo felt sick and dizzy. Her head was spinning, still aching and her heart felt as if it was in pieces. Her cousin, Pandora, was dead and gone, killed by the dragons that attacked Berlin. She shivered as the orderlies pushed her through. It was one thing to be in a strange spectral body form and largely unfeeling of everything. It was another to be back in her body and experiencing all the dizzy nausea heartbreak that her body was going through. Was this how it felt under the Seylum's Castle, at the whims of Baron Messiah's every sadistic impulse? She barely had any sense of self as she was brought back to London through the mirror and brought into a private isolation ward. Someone was there, fussing over her on the other side, but she didn't know who it was.

After a painful vomiting session that felt as if her entire stomach was rupturing over and over again, Flo looked up, shaking and pale. A little blonde demon was there, timidly tending to her tube, ensuring the machine it was connected to could fit in the electrical slot in the wall. "Pr-Pr-Pray?" What was Pray was doing here, and why? How was she here? Wasn't Pandora dead? "Hello." Pan said quietly in a dull, sullen tone. She was one of the Generals of Hell, but she looked so powerless. "Yes." Wait, something didn't make sense. "You still... have the mark?" The mark that signified the bond between Silence and Pray was still on her wrist. "Yes? Silence isn't dead or anything." Flo's eyes widened. Wait, Silence wasn't dead? She pushed through the waves of pain, trying to force her exhausted body off the bed.

"Th-then show me! Wh-where is she?" She asked, voice frantic and strained. Almost all of her friends were gone. She needed to know. She needed to know if her cousin was okay. The last of her family... Flo needed to see her, after all these years. "I don't know if I'm allowed to. There are special orders about you and Ayna since you're both very weak right now." Pray fidgeted, looking down. "But maybe it would do you well. I'm sure I can explain it to Wei later and they'll worry about it later." Pray had healing powers regardless, right?

So Pray helped Flo into a wheelchair and disconnected her from the machine. "Let's go." Down the hall, through a lobby as the lesser priority patients were being processed into rooms. Echo was already moved to her room a few minutes ago as well. "Here." Up the elevator and Flo winced and shook as she had to breathe the open air of the campus once again, the chill wintry air cold and painful on her bones. To the South Tower they went, the medical tower where Flo once lived, once upon a time. Up another elevator, then to the VIP Ward where important people such as Pebble's boyfriend, Brandon, were. There was a room here for Pandora and Flo wanted to retch as she saw her cousin on the bed.

"She's a husk now." Pray murmured, pointing to the lifeless body filled with tubes and machines just to keep her alive. "The Third General of Hell, Frey, stole her soul to power his magic." Flo's heart plummeted farther than it already was. Frey had the ability to steal the souls of the living and store it inside his body. By torturing his captured souls, it increased the power and strength of his own abilities. "Until Frey is killed, Pandora and his other victims can never return to their bodies. Even if we kill the victims, their souls will be trapped inside of him, being tortured for all eternity."

❝Why do I always end up destroying everything I've ever loved?❞

Echo was curled up on the bed, a husk of who she once was. So strong and resilient and now she couldn't meet anyone's eyes. She couldn't so much as sit up right now, for she was far too dizzy. Hawk sat beside her, stroking her hair in silence while Melody and Doll whispered in the corner. Wei wanted to do the procedure tomorrow, to fix Echo's shunt. They turned off the feed, she wouldn't be allowed food or water until after the surgery. The patients had all been safely moved to the East Tower and were in various shades of disarray sedation. "Fine!" Melody stormed out, going to find Flame. Doll sighed and slumped against the door, Christopher was with Sonata and Doll had come to check on Echo, who was mid panicked fit, Hawk attempting to comfort her.

"You probably shouldn't fight in here," Hawk whispered as Doll settled on the bedside. Doll nodded, "I know, but Melody is taking a stupid risk. She wants to go back out there and find a witch she thinks that can track down Fray." A witch? Hawk quirked a brown, her hand never leaving Echo's head. Even if they were no longer contracted, the vampire still felt their bond. They were soul mates, after all, the same way that Echo and Flourspar had once been. "That's suicide," Hawk murmured and Doll nodded, "I told her as much. She's still going to ask Wei for permission," but Doll had the sense that Wei was going to deny them. "Knock, knock," Cress entered, her demon, Keron hot on her heels. Keron seemed agitated, but she was always upset about something. "How is she? I know the move disturbed a lot of them," the door closed behind them.

"Not good," Echo had stopped shaking at least. "I made these as a welcome gift for everyone," she came closer, but Echo stiffened. Cress's smile was sad, she had helped raise Echo alongside Shiro from an egg after her second birth. "You silly demon," Cress shook her head. "It's to calm the senses, an herbal blend. Lemon, peppermint, and lavender." Doll took the phial, grateful. "Thank you, we'll try it now." Doll dabbed a bit of it on Echo's temple, almost instantly her muscles relaxed, her breathing evening out. "Look at that, much better," Cress smiled. "I've gotta go back to Wei's side, but I'm glad I could help, even if it was only a little."

"C-c-co-cold," Echo stuttered, speaking at last. "Do you want me to run the bath?" Doll asked worriedly, feeling Echo's forehead. "I have to go," Hawk rose, "it's nearly curfew," she was free to move about considering she was still an agent, even if she had admitted herself to the East Tower. As long as she didn't break curfew or the few set of rules she had been given, Hawk was free to come and go as she pleased. Echo did not want her to go, but she couldn't say as much, as she was too busy shivering, huddled on the bed.

❝In the ocean of despair, what lure keeps the fish swimming?❞

|| The Ballad of Mona Lisa|| Panic! At the Disco ||

Flo woke up, still feeling as weak and horrible ever. Even though, was it bad to have some hope? Pandora was probably suffering horribly right now as her soul is trapped within Fray's body... but she wasn't dead yet. There was a chance to save her. If they could do something as crazy as kill one of the Seven Generals of Hell, then they had a chance, right? Wicked, Miranda's demon, was the Second General of Hell, the Mad Bomber, able to cut off parts of her body to use as explosives strong enough to reduce anything to ash. Pray was another one, the Fourth General of Hell, the Radiant Light. The two of them were incredibly strong already - and Zeal was someone almost everyone was afraid to clash against. Fray was the Third General, so he was somewhere between Wicked and Pray in terms of strength. Could Flo win?

She would have to do it at night, wouldn't she? At night when she was a demon so she could be at her strongest. But could her time stop ability help her win against Fray's necromancy? Only time would tell. "I have to do it." Flo whispered to herself, shivering unknowingly. It was surprisingly lonely now with Ayna unable to reach her. Flo had come to rely on her a little, similar to how she used to be codependent with a certain spider that was now long gone. "Rowena..." She whispered in a mournful voice, fingering the necklace Doll made of the spider's shattered soul gem shards. It just wasn't the same without her toxic spider. "Gotta be strong. Echo needs me." She still had Echo, she still had someone, the most important someone.

Pray entered the room then, with new formula for the day already in her hands. The eyepatched demon gave a little smile and trotted over. "How are you feeling, Fluorspar?" The blonde demon asked as she took the sponge and removed Flo's clothes, wiping her down to clean her. "Sick. Weak. My body can't move like it used to." Flo murmured, trying to wiggle her toes. "Yes, the doctors say you'll probably need physio to get back on your feet." Pray agreed with empathy in her blue eye. "Who did we lose? Of our old friends... who are the ones not here anymore?"

It was a sad topic but Flo needed to know the people still active. "Samurai is still at the human farm, though he was relocated from Warsaw." Pray said with a shake of the head. "We lost Shadow and Calciferous and don't know if they're alive or dead. Silence and I are as you can see, out of commission." Not to mention other friends they lost along the way such as Stallion, Crowley, Imani and Bruskey... so many faces they would not see again. "But we have some new faces joining the teams. Ariel and Lana are now members of the Tower Society. We also have Miranda and Wicked from Castene City joining us. There's another pair, Mason and Polair, who show potential." Pray held both of Flo's hands in her own. "There's hope, you know. We can still win this."

❝Why do I always end up destroying everything I've ever loved?❞

|| The Death of a Bachelor || Panic! At the Disco ||

It was not a good night for the demon, she had attempted to sleep, only to jolt awake each time a nightmare ended. By the time morning broke, Echo was shaking, had she not been wearing a diaper, she surely would have soiled the bed. "Good morning," the nurse came in, wearing a smile. Echo hid underneath the blanket, not wanting to be touched. "No food today, you're on NPO." The nurse wrinkled her nose as she lifted the blanket, "let's get you changed." Echo flinched away, the woman sighing. "It's alright," she smiled, her expression serene, the picture of patience. "It's just me, we do this every morning, don't we?" They did, but that didn't make it any better. The nurse changed Echo, who could barely put up a fight, weak as she was. "T-t-tir-tired," she stuttered as Doll entered, looking prim and proper despite the early hour. In her arms was a small bundle, the baby.

"Chris is at a meeting, I have to go soon, but I wanted to see you before Wei comes to get you." Sonata was asleep and Echo shied away from the unfamiliar child. "D-d-don-don't." But Doll came closer, her child was adopted of course, a human baby, an orphan of war. She and Christopher could not have children, neither could Melody and Flame. Doll placed Sonata down on the floor, the baby waking almost instantly and turning over to crawl towards the pile of presents Echo had yet to open. "She's such a peaceful baby, not like you were," Doll sighed wistfully. "You were always so loud, always getting into things you weren't supposed to." Echo shifted uncomfortably, averting her gaze. "You were so fiery, like a flame that could never be quenched no matter how much water we threw on it."

Her sister looked at her, there was pity in her eyes. She reached out to hug Echo, who flinched, then thought better of it. "When we heard the news that you were gone, it was like a part of my world had been shattered. First Melody, then you. I felt like the worst big sister in the world." Doll was selfish like that, of course she would try to make their disappearance about her. "You're not going anywhere though, not again." At last she reached over, her arms encircling Echo. The demon stiffened, looking at her lap. "N-n-not ag-again," Echo agreed. She fell silent, Sonata suddenly crying out, as the pretty bow she had been tearing at was now in ribbons on the floor.

Doll rose to tend to her baby, "I'll see you later Echo, alright? I promise," her sister disappeared. Echo lay in wait, too nervous to do much more than wring the blanket in her hands. Time moved at a crawl until the door opened again, "Echo? Ready?" Ellen asked, here to retrieve her. Her demon, Shiro, was at her ankles, wearing a nurse uniform. "Echo!" Shiro chirped, Echo placing her hands over her ears; too loud. "You silly girl, it's me, Mama Shiro." Her tail swished, she was pushing a wheelchair. Shiro lifted Echo easily, placing her in the chair. "Ready?" Echo shook her head, but they left, Ellen grabbing the stuffed bear from the bed to hand to the smaller demon. They went to the elevator, Echo feeling as though she were hyperventilating.

Things were changing far too quickly, they rode down, butterflies flitting in her stomach. "B-ba-back," Echo stuttered, "I-I wa-wan-want t-to g-g-go ba-back." Panic flooded her, this was too different. The elevator was uncomfortable, it was small. A ding made her jump, they were rolling forward. "We're almost there, don't worry." She shuffled uncomfortably in the seat as they entered what was clearly a hospital, only this one for the demon populace. Melody was there, waiting for them, Flame giving a curt wave. "We have to go on a mission, but I wanted to see you first."

Shiro lifted Echo onto the stretcher, the privacy curtain drawn despite the fact that she was the only one waiting in the pre op area. "Hey, it's gonna be okay." Melody took her hand, squeezing it. Echo weakly squeezed back and Melody smiled. "I'll be the first thing you see when you wake up, promise." With that, she left, leaving Shiro and Ellen to care for her. Shiro helped Echo into a hospital gown and Ellen started an IV. "I'm getting a call, it's time to go back." Echo felt panic rise in her throat, she was going to be sick. "It's alright, just breathe," Shiro squeezed her hand as Ellen gave her a bit of versed. Suddenly the room spun and Echo giggled, everything seemed so calm. Her muscles untensed, her breathing evening out.

"See? That's better, isn't it," Echo giggled, then hiccuped, Shiro's words sounded as though she were speaking in bubbles. They rolled into the operating room, Wei waiting, all suited up. Ellen began to scrub in, sterilizing herself. "Alright Echo, ready?" She giggled in response, feeling cold as she was undressed, her diaper thrown out, all sorts of monitors stuck to her body. It tickled when they touched her, her head swirling. "We're going to give you the propophol now, it's going to sting," Wei warned and suddenly nothing was funny anymore.

It hurt.

Her arm burned. Why was she being punished? Echo stiffened, suddenly growing sleepy. She had to fight it, she couldn't fall asleep. Bad things happened when she slept. "It's okay, just relax," Shiro stroked her forehead, an oxygen mask pressed against her face with funny tasting air. "Shhh, everything will be..." what would it be? What would it be?

But Echo would never know, she was suddenly plunged into darkness.

❝In the ocean of despair, what lure keeps the fish swimming?❞

|| The Ballad of Mona Lisa|| Panic! At the Disco ||

"My name is Pray and I'm in charge of physiotherapy for the time being." Pray said to the group. Those who Wei and Elliot deemed would benefit from it were permitted for the session. Flo did not see Echo anywhere but no one was telling her anything either. Echo probably was somewhere else right now then. A girl named Angel was here, though she did not look or feel like any demon Flo had seen before. Ayna was here too, looking nauseous but better off than Flo was at the very least. There were a few others too but Flo didn't know their names. It was good to see Ayna again at least. "Glad you... made it." Flo said weakly at her friend. The green haired girl smiled at her, wiggling a few fingers.

The blonde girl at the front of the room clapped her hands then to get everyone's attention. "Normally Shiro would be doing this, but she's busy with someone else right now so I'm here for now." The eyepatched girl seemed a little but uncomfortable with the duty but it was her job and she was willing to do it nonetheless. "You look worse than me." Ayna said with a whistle, largely ignoring Pray's efforts to get the session going. The others were a bit more attentive. "And I have many more years comatose than you do." Flo shrugged, having a feeling she knew why she felt so weak and fatigued all the time. It probably had something to do with her damaged soul piece from when the Seylums kept carving pieces out of it in order to create time stop crystals. It was a miracle she was even alive now, though her status as human and demon continued to fluctuate. Wei no doubt would want to examine her and see what was going on.

Suddenly light flashed in the room as Pray lifted up the eyepatch, glaring at the crowd. "Please pay attention, this is for your benefit. The doctors can help you get in position if needed." There were orderlies in the room, assisting those who required it. As Pray showed them the laying down position, Flo felt dizzy and faint as she tried to move. A white suit was quick to assist, shifting Flo onto her back, flat. Ayna was able to do it with a bit of discomfort. Angel was the most able-bodied of them here, so it was likely she was here just to pass the time. "We'll be doing leg lifts today to help build muscle. Once you're strong enough, after a few session, you'll get to use walkers to try and learn how to walk again. Now, follow after me." Pray lifted one leg up in the air, making a right angle as she lay there flat on the floor.

Flo whimpered as she tried to raise a leg but she could barely get it up, let alone off the floor. "Unnn,... it hurts..." She panted, coughing because of course her Emphysema was back in her life. Not that she wanted an operation to get it fixed, either, just like last time, Flo was against the idea of a transplant. "Don't force it." Ayna told her carefully, satisfied with being able to curl her knee. "Take it slow, and we'll make it. Won't Echo be proud of you for being patient?" Did they have time to be patient? Maybe life seemed peaceful here but Flo knew the enemies were coming. It was only a matter of time.

|| The Death of a Bachelor || Panic! At the Disco ||

Echo's surgery took a bit longer than expected. Her shunt was infected and tied around a large blood vessel. He needed to untangle it, with Ellen's help, the two working to remove the infected shunt and replace it with a shiny new one. They then had to reconnect the thinning blood vessels to a better flow, the Moia Moia having wrecked havoc after being unchecked for so long. Aside from those unforeseen complications, everything went as planned. They closed Echo up, Shiro alerting them of something. "Blood pressure and O2 are dropping," she squeaked behind the sterile mask, her hand holding Echo's. "That's not good, push some-" the heart rate monitor began to beep as it rose. "Dammit, she's septic. When we removed the old shunt, it must have been holding off the infection." Sepsis was a deadly blood infection, if left untreated, it would kill. "Push some penicillin, we're gonna have to move her to the ICU until the infection clears." Wei began to wipe down Echo's chest, putting in a midline so that they could administer medication quickly.

"I'll take her up," Ellen offered. Wei nodded in appreciation. "I can stay with Echo," Shiro said, her tail swishing. Echo was like her child, she wanted to be with her. She thought of every demon baby she had raised as her child, a motherly instinct the little demon had gained. "I need you," Ellen replied with a shake of the head, "we can just get her nurse to come." Elliot saw them in the hall, on his way up to the rehab ward. "How did it go?" He asked, seeing that Echo was still asleep, still intubated. "Not well, there were a lot of nasty surprises in there." Ellen shook her head, she wore her normal, expressionless face. "We're taking her up to the ICU for round the clock care until the infection clears." Elliot nodded, Oliver scowling, "weak," he muttered as they rolled past him.

As soon as Doll and Melody heard, they dropped what they were doing to come. Melody, on her way back from a mission and Doll coming from a meeting. Both of their husbands were hot on their heels, Chis holding Doll's pinkie with his, attempting to reassure his wife. They entered the ICU after cloaking up, a nurse already there to take care of setting up the machines that were currently sustaining their baby sister. "What happened?" Doll demanded, wanting to know why Echo was here and not in the recovery ward. "Echo is currently in septic shock, we've managed to stabilize her, but it's in her best interest to have as little visitors as possible right now. Wei is going to keep her asleep until the sepsis is cleared and the infection begins to resolve itself." Ellen's words, while not unkind, were strict.

"Hello, I was called to take care of things here?" Terra stood in the doorway, wearing a nurse's uniform. Her human worked with the human patients while she worked with the demon ones. Shiro and the nurse assisting her stepped aside, Terra's expression dropping when she saw who she would be taking care of. "Echo-" her breath hitched in her throat. Melody glared, there was still bad blood between the sister's and the girlfriend from Echo's previous life. "Why is it her?" Doll asked, tossing her perfectly manicured hair over her shoulder. "Because we needed a nurse and Terra was assigned to it, it's business. Now all of you out."
