❝Why do I always end up destroying everything I've ever loved?❞

|| The Death of a Bachelor || Panic! At the Disco ||

They stood on a blustering street corner, Echo with her daggers and Hawk with her sword. The two of them made quite the duo, one a vampire, the other a demon. "Ready?" Hawk asked as Echo closed her eyes, sniffing the cold, windy air. The Thames was frozen over, solid enough where there were groups of school children skating on the ice. "I found it," Echo had picked up the scent close by, a small square of their purse snatcher having gotten caught. They had traced the scent this way, the children lingering near the ice rink to play in the frozen sand. "This way," it was clear that Hawk was still amazed everytime Echo spoke. Eight weeks ago, she had only been able to make wheezing noises. Now, she was speaking in inunciated sentances. "I'm right behind you," there were scars on Echo's neck from where Hawk had bitten her, a rare moment of vampiric madness.

It was the moment that had signified the downwards spiral, but had Hawk not attacked Echo, Wei may have never realized how deep seeded the trauma truly was. She may have gotten worse instead of getting the help she needed to function. Echo and Hawk were still supposed to stick to a strict schedule. They had mandatory theraputic sessions and mental health check in's. They wanted to make sure that the duo were up to par and not simply pushing everything down where it could well up on them again. "Almost there," Echo shivered, the wind howling through her coat. "I'm right behind you," Hawk reassured her. They were at a dead end, the alleyway closing off. Echo stopped and sniffed the air, but the scent had disappeared. "It's gone," she blinked, doing a 360, but the scent had evaporated into thin air.

"It's alright, we did our best. What's say you, we go get some ice cream?" Hawk asked, patting Echo's head. Echo was frustrated though, they had come this far only for their trail to disappear. "I guess," she said at last, her shoulders slumping. "Don't be upset, this happens all the time. You know it, just be happy that we didn't have to fight or arrest anyone." Echo was happy about that, as recovered as she was, she was not sure that she was ready for a brawl just yet. "Let's head back," they turned around, tracing their footsteps back. "I'll take the lead, stay close," Hawk directed. Echo grasped Hawk's jacket, the two of them walking through a crowded street and pushing their way towards a less busy path. Echo's ears perked up, her tail stiffening. "Hawk," she tugged on Gwenyth's sleeve. "What is it?"

"I smell it again," Hawk turned, her eyes widening. "This way," back into the crowd they dove, but the smell was quickly becoming muddled with a thousand other scents. Echo was quickly growing frustrated, it was clear that the demon was playing games with them, it was following them. "Hey, don't worry about it. If that demon is hiding, it just means we'll catch it another time. It wasn't meant to be today," Hawk guided Echo back onto the not busy side of the street, the two of them heading in the direction of ice cream once more. "I wanted to catch them, I wanted to prove I was ready." But all Echo had proven to herself was that she was still a failure.

|| The Ballad of Mona Lisa|| Panic! At the Disco ||

Sana and Pray both heard the panting before they saw the one responsible for the sound. Silently both girls agreed to slip into hiding and waited, watching. Sana pressed a button to kick in the inhibitor, hopefully making it harder for the mysterious demon to sense Pray's aura, thanks to her being the Forth General of Hell, the Blinding Light. The demon was panting, rubbing his overly large nose. "Gosh, that was close." He waddled over, clutching the strange egg. "Those two agents almost caught me." Two agents were hunting him down? There was a purse in his hands, was he possibly a petty thief? "Here you go." He opened the purse, trying to find something inside it. Just what was he looking for? Sana and Pray watched in curiosity. What could it be?

"Why did Messiah tell me to take care of this dumb thing anyways?" He shook his head in derision, pulling out what seemed like a clean handkerchief. He placed it gently on top of the egg. "Now you can keep warm. Good egg..." He gingerly pat the top of the egg which was now covered by the handkerchief. Sana decided that now it was time. She stepped out from the corner of the alleyway, holding out her badge. "Tower Society agent here! Step away from the egg!" The demon let out a yelp. "Seriously?! You two again?!" He grabbed at the egg, spinning around. "I'm not scared of you! Just leave me alo-" Blinding light shone in the alley as Pray removed her eyepatch, appearing behind the demon. "Y-you aren't those two. Wh-who are you?!"

Pray grinned menacingly. As kind as she usually was, there was a reason she was the fourth General of Hell. "How about you give that to us now?" The demon hugged the egg close to him and even Sana could feel the power flowing inside of it. What the hell could be inside of it? It was anyone's guess. "I-I'm more scared of Messiah than you!" He let out a sneeze then. A cloud of smoke appeared and when it finally cleared, both the long-nose demon and the egg were both gone. "What the heck." Pray sighed, putting her eyepatch back on. "I guess we'll have to report this in." They had failed their quest, they couldn't get the egg. "D-don't we technically win though?" Sana blushed, staring at her hands.

"A-all we had to do was remove the egg, that's what the quest said." While that was true, Wei no doubt would have loved a chance to investigate the strange egg. "It didn't seem very... natural. It wasn't a normal egg." Pray groaned, holding out her hand. "Oh well. Wanna go back home now, partner?" Sana shook her head. It was rare they got to go out. "Wait. Let's go for ice cream first? Was it silly to want to go eat with her friend?

"I'm sorry," Echo whispered as they arrived back at the Tower Society. The ice cream was good of course, but it made Echo nauseous. "What for?" Hawk asked, stopping in the doorway. "I lost him, we failed the mission." She had lost the scent and so they had messed up the mission. "We'll get him next time, don't worry." Hawk assured Echo, "you didn't do anything wrong." She pat Echo's head, the two of them heading back up to their room. "The door," Echo stiffened, "it's unlocked." Hawk tensed, drawing her sword. "I'll go in first," the two of them tip toed inside, Hawk brandishing her weapon as she turned on the light. A swell of pink hair greeted them, short, but slender legs elegantly crossed. Standing beside her was a vampire with blonde hair, both of them with piercing red eyes.

What was the Vampire Queen doing in their living room? Echo stiffened, the window was open, the curtains bustling in the cold wind. "How did you get in here?" Echo asked, swallowing hard. "Put your weapons down," Riven's eyes glowed and Hawk dropped her sword. Echo yelped, jumping out of the way as it clattered to the ground. "We aren't here to hurt you," Riven said, trying to make it perfectly clear. Echo did not believe her, vampires, after all, had never been kind to her. They had never done anything but hurt her. "What are you doing here?" Hawk asked, clearly on edge. She couldn't disobey Riven, not even with the medication repressing her vampiric half. "You're a vampire," Riven stated, rising from her seat. The demon-semi human duo backed up, the two of them clearly feeling threatened.

"You shouldn't be fighting in this war." It was clear that Riven was upset. "The vampires are supposed to remain neutral, your fighting for the humans is breaking the code of conduct." Echo looked up at Hawk in confusion. "Pardon, Queen Riven, we aren't fighting for either side. We're lowly Tower Agents, we barely fight at all. We mostly do recon," it was clear Hawk was nervous. Riven was the Vampire Queen, an Ancient, she could take their heads off in seconds flat. "I don't care what your excuse might be, your partnered with a Baroness, it's clear that the Tower Society intends to use you for something and I can't have word getting out that a vampire is fighting for the humans. It will make others think that they have permission to take sides." Riven had put in a lot of time and effort to pull the vampire forces out of the war.

"Julia," she turned to the blonde haired vampire beside her. "Give it to me," Julia rifled through her belongings and pulled out an unassuming looking box decorated with jewels. "What is that?" Echo whispered nervously as Riven fiddled with it for a moment, removing the lid. She placed it on the floor, the box beginning to glow. "What's happening?" Echo asked, feeling a strange tug within her stomach. "Echo, stay back-" her feet were swept out from underneath her, a scream wrenching from her stomach as she was sucked towards the box. Riven placed the lid back on, sealing Echo inside. Panic rose in her stomach, it was dark and cold. What was happening? Why was she in here? "What did you do!?" Echo could hear Hawk scream.

"I've given you incentive. Go neutral, or else-"

"You can't do that! She has trauma! She can't be separated from me!"

"Yes, we are well aware of Baroness Nova's issues. You have 48 hours to make your decision."

|| The Ballad of Mona Lisa|| Panic! At the Disco ||

As it turned out the ice cream place was closed due to recent demon activity in the area. Many businesses were closed today so instead the girls decided they might as well just head on home now. It was a shame, but it was the reality they lived in. Even though the London Tower Branch was the strongest still standing, even London still suffered from the demons. "Oh well, let's just go home then." Pray said with a sigh, rubbing at her knee as if trying to get a stain out. "Okay." Sana pulled the keys out, handing them to Pray so they could get back into their care and go home. Both of their Tower Braces glowed three times, with three red lights. They met each other's eyes. "The emergency signal." All pairs were to return immediately.

Many agents stood with their weapons at Riven and Julia. How had they gotten here? Yet for some reason they were reluctant to act. Why? An enemy leader was right here, the leader of the Vampires and the only pureblood Seylum left alive. Should they kill her here, the vampires would never be a problem again. With the Orgia kept secure in containment, the vampires would never again have new bloodlines born. "You know this isn't what being neutral means, right?" Pray's voice was dangerous, hand over her eyepatch. Sana trembled at the knees but her face was stiff in an attempt to look cool, metal floating around her wrist, ready to strike. Ariel and Lana were hiding in a corner, the mirror ready if anything went wrong. "We've sealed you in." Leo's voice was calm, a barrier surrounding the vampires. "Those two are ours." They already lost one Baroness - they were not going to lose their second trump card.

Someone walked in then, green hair flowing behind her. Julia's eyes widened in recognition. This was Ayna Anrarara, the sister of Baron Wernicke. "So you're the ones that got my brother killed. I watched it you know." Her eyes glowed dangerously. "I watched as you cried hugging Viola, as Viola tried to show how good she could walk only to fall down five flights of stairs, how you both love each other but still didn't confess your feelings." The astral projecting demon saw a whole lot during her explorations and Castle Seylum was one of her favorite places. "We have the vaccine now. I watched as Sweet Pea examined Jacob's blood." It was a half lie - they still needed to find someone with the same gene as Jacob, the vampire immunity. Julia's whip was resting calmly at her side, but she would not hesitate to attack if the moment begged for it.

"I wonder what would happen if we gave the vaccine to the Orgia. She's the originator, the progenitor of all vampires." The Orgia was a title passed down in that family, the first vampire family and the only ones that were fertile. They lived mortal lives but could grand immortality to others. The Vampire Hunters of Vergincetorix Hall slaughtered the entire family and took the girl. When the demons took France, they had the Orgia transferred to the Tower Society's care, hidden inside the East Tower. "She's the last Orgia left. Do you really want to take that risk?" Did Queen Riven simply think they could antagonize the Tower Society? Ayna knew that once Flo was found and saved, she would need Echo here. So she would do her best to keep Echo safe within the Tower's walls.

Dark, it was so dark. It felt as though cold tendrils had grasped her body, blinding her, suspending her in midair in whatever sort of prison this was. "Pandora's Box," Hawk had activated the signal for backup. She needed help, she could not go against the Vampire Queen, not when there was still some vampire left inside of her. "More or less," Riven tossed the box into the air, catching it, as though she hadn't a care in the world. "Modified to hold more powerful enemies." Pandora's Box was a weapon made by the humans to capture demons in the early stages of demon recruiting. Named as such because once opened up, humans would never be able to tell what went on within. Back up began to arrive in droves, but Riven did not seem tense, no, if anything, she seemed to think it a game. Hawk held steady, her fingers twitching, wishing to grasp her sword. She could not kill the last Seylum, no, Riven was much too valuable to lose. Should she die, the vampires would side with the demons without hesitation.

"Why are you doing this?" Hawk whispered, her entire body rife with tension. She could sense Echo's distress, her Tower Brace was alerting her to it. One by one they came, the agents securing the area. Hawk's eyes widened as Riven grinned. "Is anyone watching the East Tower?" If all back up was here right now, who was keeping track of the other halls? Alex Drake's invention was to keep demons out, not vampires. Riven tossed the box into the air once more, this time, Julia caught it. "Did you really think I wouldn't notice the dozens of other vampires that are being kept hostage here?" This was a three hundred year old vampire, one that would be much harder to trick. "Your cure is a sham, I've seen what it does when you try to use it. I've seen all of your experiments on my kind," her smile was no longer friendly. "The Orgia is only a pawn, just like all of you."

After all, Riven could turn others into vampires. "Julia, if you please." Julia handed the Vampire Queen what almost appeared to be a grenade. "You're not the only one with inventors," she smiled, holding it up for them to see. Hawk could smell it, although no doubt the room full of humans could not. Her eyes widened slowly as she saw the room of humans, the room full of vulnerable, potential vampires. "Everyone stand down!" Hawk yelled, as she technically had the highest rank in the room. "We're merely being used as a distraction!"

"So clever, bravo." Riven held the grenade out, "I'm sure your dear Gwenyth has already figured out what this is full of." Blood, vampire blood. "We've perfected the vampire curse, you see. All it needed was my blood and we have made the virus, as you humans refer to it, airborne. My deal is simple, you've already figured out that this was a mere distraction. We take the rest of your vampires and you can have back your Baroness. Attack and you all join the rank of the living dead. It isn't that bad and if you truly do have your cure, as Anya claims, then you won't be affected." Hawk ground her teeth, they were playing with a Queen, a loaded chess board. Sure, they had their agents, but who knows how many dozens of vampires were currently lying in wait to attack should one of them lift a finger against their pink haired Queen.

Everyone fell silent as the blood grenade revealed itself. Lana pulled open her mirror, ready to push Ariel through. "No, I'm st-staying!" But the high ranks weren't here, only some lower rank rabble had come to meet Queen Riven in the room. Where were the others? Where were Doll and Christopher, or Miranda and Wicked? "One second." Ayna said with a sarcastic drawl. "Let me speak with my managers." She blipped out of existence, no doubt going somewhere else. Where her real body was was anyone's guess but it was pretty clear now why Ayna stayed with the humans. They were her best chance at fighting the vampires who killed her brother, her best hope to do something and get revenge. Baron Wernicke only tried to protect Gavyn Seylum from the assassins who pretended to be his family.

The lower ranks were panicking now, proving Riven's suspicion correct. The cure was not complete, they still weren't yet able to find someone with Jacob's special gene that made him immune to vampires. "What do we do?" Sana asked her partner, who was much better in these situations than she was. Sana still was not confident enough in herself, not enough to be able to call herself proud to be Flo's partner. "I can't become a vampire, not here yet at least." If she became a vampire she wouldn't be able to be Flo's conduit anymore. Wherever Flo was, she would be dead and never get to see Echo ever again. "Everyone calm down." Leo seemed almost bored. Erasmus seemed as if he were playing with his nails. "Just give me a second." Pray smiled serenely as her eye began to glow. Blinding light filled the room, not even vampires could see through it.

That next moment as the light faded away and people rubbed the light away, it was clear what had happened. Erasmus now had all the blood grenades from Julia and Riven's packs secured in his own bag, his super speed letting him take advantage of Pray's blinding light. "Not fat enough." He was clearly looking down on the vampires. "Asmodeus was more frightening than you, tiny princess." Julia slashed with her whip, the blades tearing at Lana's arms who protected Ariel with her body. "Just try it, you human filth." Julia hissed. "Don't act so superior when you were the ones who hurt my cute sister."

Everyone was about to fight but Sana knew if they truly went at it it would be Queen Riven who returned home alive. Someone broke into tears, sobbing. "I don't want to die yet!" She wailed miserably. "I still didn't teach my dad how to use the new Holotv!" At that moment Ayna returned, sighing at the heightened tension. "Everyone just stop." Ayna waved her hands uselessly. "Wei agreed to it readily. He'll hand over all the vampires. He'll give our research notes on your vampires as well as added bonus." Her eyes flashed dangerously. "But in exchange he needs blood samples from Jacob." There was only so much they could get from Ayna looking, a real sample would help them immensely. "Otherwise you'll find yourselves in some trouble, Queen."

That threat was obvious.

Doll and Christopher were on the way.

|| The Death of a Bachelor || Panic! At the Disco ||

"Please, let me out." Echo sobbed, but darkness filled her mouth and lungs. It coated her tongue and rolled down her throat, choking her. It filled her eyes and ears, drowning out all semblance of sound. It was consuming her, eating away at her flesh, tearing her to bits. She was going to drown in this box, she was going to die in this box. There was no escape, not truly. Were her eyes open or closed? She could not tell. How much time had passed? Had it been longer than 48 hours? Was Hawk coming to get her? Was Hawk still alive? Echo didn't know, there was so much she didn't know. Had they all forgotten about her? Or perhaps they were glad she was gone? Would Flo be sad of her erased existence? Would Flo come find her and release her from the prison? The darkness nibbled on her skin, it filled every pore and crevice of her body. "I want to go home."

Erasmus had stolen the grenades, yes, but he did not have the remote. "I came prepared, I figured that was the payment Wei wanted." Riven was a vampire of her word. She removed from her pocket three glistening phials filled with crimson blood. "He can check the labels, it belongs to Jacob." the half demi demon that was immune to the vampire virus. Hawk's eyes glistened with something, hope, perhaps, but just because they had the samples did not mean they had the cure. After all, it could take years to develop, research, and replicate the DNA mutation that allowed Jacob to remain semi-human. "I won't give you the box until all of the vampires are released into my care." It was clear that Riven did not want to hurt them, she merely wanted her vampires, who were being unjustly experimented on, to be returned home.

The vampire was not afraid of being hurt here, these petty humans could not lay a scratch on her. She was her own commander now, no longer was there anyone using her for her weapon-changing ability. "Come, Julia, I suspect Christopher and Doll will be on their way to escort us to him." Her eyes glowed as they settled on Hawk. "You too, you're going to want this back." She held Pandora's Box, not as a threat, but not so casually either. She tucked the box into one of her bell sleeves, Julia following along behind her. In a way, Hawk understood why Riven was doing this. She herself had been a prisoner of humans for so long that she sought to free all of the vampires. She knew she had to target their most powerful pawn in order to attract all of the attention to herself. How many vampires were running amock inside of the building right now? Hawk wondered.

Wei was waiting for them, as were Christopher and Doll. They were wearing their raid gear, their expressions carefully schooled into diplomatic and neutral scupltures. "What a surprise it was when Anya came in to tell me that the Vampire Queen was here for a visit and holding captive two of our agents." Wei said in greeting, he pulled out a chair for Riven to sit down in, the vampire settling into the seat. "Let's skip the pleasantries Wei, I don't like you and you don't like me. You've clearly been keeping what rightfully belongs to me away and continue to do so. I will give you these three vials of Jacob's blood in exchange for all of my vampires." She held them up to the light, the plasma taking on a tempting taint. "Oh and this too of course," she pulled the box out of her sleeve.

Both Doll and Hawk tensed, knowing what was inside. "I see you've picked up on modern slang," Wei's brow twitched as he took a seat behind his dask, clasping his hands together. "I cannot release the Orgia, you and I both know that." Riven placed everything back into her sleeve. "Then I will leave with this," Christopher placed a hand on his sword, making a clear, open threat against the Vampire Queen's life. "Did I stutter?" Riven blinked innocently, "the last I checked, Orgia is a vampire." Both of Wei's brows were now tense. In that moment it was clear how much being Director was aging him. Dealing with one crisis after the next was not kind to one's state of health. He was in a tough spot and aware that the other agents were all listening behind the door. Echo was their comrade after all and they had just gotten her back. They were still reeling from the devastating loss of Flo.

"Fine," Wei relented. "The Orgia is yours. Know this, Riven," he threw away all formalities. "Come after the Tower Society, no, come after any of my agents again and it will be your head." Riven smiled, leaning back in her chair with a laugh. "Now you're thinking like a Director. Perhaps you can be groomed into something worthwhile after all." She examined her nails, which were long and sharp like claws. "No Wei, my plan is to disappear. All of vampire kind will blip out of existence the same way the mages have. Humans are a stain upon this earth and until it can be rectified, we have no place here."

"My Queen, the Orgia and remainder of the vampires are in our possession," Julia reported, listening in on her ear piece. "Well, it seems the time for games has ended, you have been an exceptional player, Director Wei. A bit more grooming and you could very well earn the spot of King on the chessboard."

"If I were King, what would you be?" He asked, out of mere curiosity.

"Why, isn't that obvious? I'm the Queen," Riven placed the three phials onto the desk, along with the box.

"Check mate." They disappeared the same way they came, leaping through the window and disappearing into the night.
