Monarch Academy, a private school founded in the late 1980s that occupies a rather hilly area in Northern California, is quite known for its Fine Arts department. It is in fact one of the main reasons people choose to apply to Monarch, however, even taking that into consideration, the student body of the academy is incredibly diverse, in family backgrounds, race, and personal goals alike. Eden Storm is just one out of the differing group, having spent all four years of her highschool education at Monarch and is well known by both the staff members of the academy and her peers.

Josette Dragoste less so when it comes to being known, as she is just transferring to the academy for her final year of high school after her father had set everything up for her and sent her on her way. Still, she hasn't been at Monarch for more than three weeks, and yet she's already heard of the crazy antics Eden has been up too, accompanied by her fellow friends. Their story will be one out of many that occur at Monarch, the two of them among the many throngs of people who attend the academy. The students at Monarch Academy have always been known for being distinctive from one another, no two people too similar or too different from each other, and this isn't different in the case of Eden Storm and Josette Dragoste, and eventually they will drift towards each other. Though a few of these diverse students have less then unsavory pasts and some have equally as unpleasant secrets. And it doesn't take much for them to eventually come to light.

        "Shit."

"Ya know, you really suck at this, E."

The empty water bottle had bounced off the rim of the trash can, right before it unceremoniously fell to the ground. Astra snickered at Eden, before effortlessly making a clean shot into the trash can. "Show off" she grumbled before turning away from Astra. "Hey, it's not my fault you just happen to absolutely terrible at trashketball." She shrugged. "Now I see why you never tried out for any sports teams. Can't even throw a water bottle into the trash. Sad and pathetic."

It was a little before school was supposed to start that they were hanging out together in the courtyard. The earliest signs of autumn were started to show, the green leaves gaining just the slightest hint of orange, some of them already beginning to fall off the tree branches into small piles on the ground.

Though truly, trashketball it was an immature game for them to be playing at the time, given that they were about to be college freshmen. But that wasn't much of deterrent to them. However, it was always more than a little annoying whenever the teachers bugged her constantly.

And one was about to do just that.

"For the last time you two, trash is meant to be thrown away, not played with like it's a toy." A teacher had said to the Astra and Edan as they walked up to them. Funny how it was always the same teacher bothering her about things. 'Just shut up and leave already' Eden had inwardly groaned, but on outside she smirked at the teacher. "But we are throwing the trash away!" she quipped, before throwing another empty water bottle into the trash can, actually making it this time. "See?" Eden grinned. Astra chuckled at her friend's sarcasm, "You really did sign yourself up for that joke, Teach." The teacher began to say something else but quickly stopped themselves before walking away, shaking their heads. Astra stuck her tongue out at them as they left.

"So, you still getting those weird packages?" She questioned, leaning against the brick wall next to them. "Yeah...still can't figure out who or where they're coming from." Eden ran a hand through her hair and let out a frustrated sigh. "And it's not like that little stake out we did in front of your doorway didn't help out either. Why did you come up with such a terrible idea anyway?" In response, she only received a glare from Eden. "That was your idea, I really only went along with it because it was the only thing we could do. There was a moment of silence between the two of them. "Ya know, I've never really seen you this worked up over something before, but try not to worry about it too much before classes start. Speaking of classes, hurry up, we're gonna end up being late."

"Alright Alright, calm down I'm coming," Eden said as she picked up her backpack. Walking off, Eden had shoved Astra into the way of the trash can, knocking both her and the trash can over. "Okay, that was just rude. I know you're still pissy over losing the game, but you don't have to be violent about it."

Astra stood up and dusted herself off, before jabbing Eden with her elbow. "By the way, have you met the new transfer student yet? I think her name started with a J?

"No, I haven't met her, much less know what her name is. There's too many to keep up with and the school year barely started. How did you even find out her na-? You know what, never mind. Knowing you, you're probably stalking the poor girl.

Astra scoffed, "Hey, I can be creepy, but I'm not stalker-level creepy...at least I don't think I am.

A scientist once estimated that it takes seven years for us to truly get over something because that’s when all of the cells in your body have died and been reborn. Unfortunately for Jo, it had only been two months since the day a single drunk driver caused her crashing, burning life to come to a screeching halt. It’s a terrible thought, but on those nights when the allure of the bottle was too great, Jo thanked god for what had happened. Her mother was the main source of abuse in her life; with her father being the one who just stepped back and threw the occasional insult. But at the same time, she cursed the mythological deity for killing her brother; the only person on earth who she could have a real, adult conversation with without being criticized or verbally abused. Despite the fact that he, in essence, was the reason she was constantly assaulted was because of how perfect and better he was. But he really was perfect; such a kind, pure person didn’t deserve to suffer in this cruel, terrible world.

For the first week, the only color Jo sported was black. If not for her bright pink hair, most of her fellow students would have assumed she was just stuck in her scene/emo phase. During the second week, she met a girl named Katherine. Well, Jo had met her before; Katherine was suppose to be her β€œguardian”: aka the person in charge of showing Jo around and helping her adjust to her new surroundings. The two didn’t start really connecting until Katherine found Jo crying alone in the bathroom. After that day, she was Kat, otherwise known as Jo’s new best friend.

When Kat was assigned as Jo’s guardian, Jo was put into all of the same classes as her except for first period; the class was entirely full when Jo was transferred. That was until a student in that class switched out. So now Jo had first period Biology with her new best friend. Life really couldn’t be any better for her. Well, that’s what she kept telling herself, anyways. There were so many ways in which her life could improve, but Jo was not one to dwell on the things she didn’t have.

Now, three weeks since she transferred, Jo’s wardrobe was almost back to it’s usual vibrant self. Today she sporting a mellow green, knee-length dress with a dark blue jacket and some navy converse. It wasn’t exactly warm out, so part of Jo regretted not going for some slacks or jeans. But regardless, she had picked out her own outfit, so she had to deal with the consequences.

So here she was, on a crisp, early autumn morning, walking to class with Kat by her side. Jo wore a pair of red headphones with one ear of it pushed to the side so she could hear the incessant babble coming from Kat’s mouth. Kat was probably the only person Jo has met that talks more than her. Something about… a movie that came out recently with this super hot actor. Kat was well aware of Jo’s sexuality, but she seems to forget things. The thrumming of Sara Bareilles’ elegant voice filled her ears. She hummed along to the song until a soft touch to her shoulder caused her to jump. β€œSo are you going to tell me what song you’re listening to or do I have to take those headphones off of your head?” Despite the fact that she realized Jo hadn’t even been listening to her, Kat’s voice was still patient.

β€œUh… Uncharted by Sara Bareilles. It’s a cute, feel good type song, I suppose.” Jo’s voice was quiet and her books were clung tightly to her chest, displaying her moodiness. She hadn’t gotten the proper amount of sleep last night and her father was still dodging her calls.

Small talk ensued. Nothing too crazy; Jo finally agreed to talk about that β€œsuper hot dude” in the latest action movie. They walked into the Biology room and Jo immediately recognized a few faces, but most were unknown to her. Jo sat down next to Kat and took a look around, waving at some friends.

Class was about to start when a flash of blonde hair caught her attention. Jo couldn’t help but stare; the way that the sun gleamed off of her golden locks and framed her sharp, captivating face entranced her. Kat tapped her shoulder again, making Jo jump once more. β€œDo you know who you’re ogling at, Jo?” A confused shake of her head from Jo gave Kat her answer. β€œThat’s Eden Storm, Monarch’s finest troublemaker. Her name reveals all you need to know; she’s a storm with winds so strong that they drag people in and get them into all sorts of trouble. I’d say steer clear of her.” Jo took another long stare before looking back at her desk.

It wasn’t long before the teacher called for the class’ attention with a couple of loud claps. β€œAlright students, settle down.” Jo noticed him cast a weary glance in the direction of the blonde beauty from before, as if hoping that she would comply without resistance. Before anyone could say anything, the teacher spoke up once more. β€œI’m sorry to announce, but Karen Sycow will no longer be attending class with all of you. But, in her place, I’d like to welcome Josette Dragoste. She recently started school here, so some of you may know her, but I wanted to introduce her regardless.” He smiled at her warmly, but all of this attention from her peers only made Jo nervous and uncomfortable. There was an odd pause as he continued to look at her, and it wasn’t until a few seconds after that Jo realized that he wanted her to get up and say something. Swallowing hard, she stood up and glanced around the room like a deer caught in headlights.

β€œI, uh… Look forward to learning alongside all of you.” Jo could practically feel the burning of the red on her cheeks as she sat back down, hoping that all of the attention will be drawn away from her.

        β€œAlright then! Let’s get started!”

        And Jo sighed with relief.

Miraculously enough, they ended up being not being late to first period, making it by just a few seconds. Though the teacher for Biology wasn't very strict about marking tardies or anything like that, Astra had insisted they head to class a lot earlier than they usually would be, to avoid getting into a "bad habit" so early on in the school year. Really, it was a load of bull, as they both knew that after the first month of school they'd probably end up being late to all their classes, possibly even skipping a few of them to go hang out in the city for a while. But for now, Eden played along.

Eden was preparing for a rather uneventful class period, as Astra probably wouldn't allow any of her usual shenanigans. Though that only held true until she had noticed the arrival of someone new in the class. Truly she wasn't very hard to notice even with such a short glimpse Eden had looked at her with, as the girls hair was dyed an almost hot pink.

However the appearance of someone new didn't hold her attention for very long, and soon Eden was back to her usual banter with Astra. "Okay, I admit, kinda wishing we had waited a little bit longer before we came to class." Eden frowned as she looked briefly and her friend. "You only now consider that it wasn't the best idea? Really?" She mockingly shook her head, "Sad and pathetic." she quoted directly from Astra earlier.

Astra had the look of feigned offense written on her face, " 'Kay, I see how it is." Astra said as she pouted and folded her arms leaving Eden to only laugh at her friend's dramatics. She had noticed the pair of eyes that had settled on her, but said nothing of it, nor gave any sort of indication that she had noticed. They both carried on with their repartee, though the two of them and everyone else quieted down whenever class had finally begun. The teacher had introduced the new girl she had noticed earlier, who had also sort of introduced herself after a moment of silence.

"See, I knew her name started with a J." Eden rolled her eyes, "Yet you couldn't bother to remember the other four or so letters in her name." and that was the last of their discussion before they settled into the monotonous pattern of class, which Eden occasionally found herself daydreaming to keep herself from dozing off in the middle of the class. It wasn't always like this, there was actually a time where Eden cared enough to pay attention in class, and was pretty much a straight-A student.

Not to say she isn't now, though it's less because of her own effort and more because Astra yells at her to do her homework and to study. The change had all started whenever her older sister had disappeared, and it was certainly still a sore topic to speak about even after six years, which is why it was rarely ever brought up between Astra and her. She was really the only one of her friends who knew about her sister disappearing and all the problems that came with it.

The class was nearing its end, and since the teacher had no longer bombarded them with more work to do, people were beginning to talk freely again. It was then that Eden felt it was time to introduce herself to the new transfer student. Astra didn't attempt to stop her whenever she had lifted herself out of her seat, but neither did she follow after Eden either, probably preferring to watch everything from her seat.

Eden sauntered up to Josette's desk, ignoring some of the looks and stares that she got from the other students in the classroom. "Josette, right?" she paused for a moment. "Eden, though I wouldn't be exactly surprised if you already know about me. Just wanted to welcome you to the class since we'll be seeing a lot of each other from now on. I assume you're the one who just transferred to the school three weeks ago?

After that introduction, Jo didn’t care if the class was boring or not. She was just glad that no one was paying attention to her. Usually, Jo doesn’t mind the thought, but today she was in a particularly sour mood so she’d rather spend her time listening to music and writing down notes. When the end of the class began to near, the teacher simply gave the students some work and left them be. Kat and Jo once again began to make small talk; the other girl could tell that Jo wasn’t in the mindset to have meaningful or genuinely happy conversation. Jo was about to ask Kat if she wanted to go see that movie with the super hot actor this weekend, but an unfamiliar voice stopped her short.

        "Josette, right?"

The blush on Jo’s face was almost immediate. Talking to anyone for the first time, especially someone she found rather attractive, made her all flustered. β€œYup, that’s me. How did you know?” Jo said with a twinge of playful sarcasm. She flashed the girl a smirk and tried to disregard the redness of her cheeks.

β€œEden, though I wouldn't be exactly surprised if you already know about me. Just wanted to welcome you to the class since we'll be seeing a lot of each other from now on. I assume you're the one who just transferred to the school three weeks ago?”

[i]β€œ...seeing a lot of each other from now on”? Did she mean something by that? N-no, she must just be talking about the fact that we’re in the same class together… right?

Jo cleared her throat, hoping her blushing had also dissipated. β€œYeup, that would be me. Transferring into a new school senior year… Weird right?” Jo almost flinched at how bitter she sounded. This girl didn’t know why she had moved so suddenly and so far into her high school career, so she couldn’t understand why Jo was so upset. She hoped Eden wouldn’t notice. β€œI think it’s safe to say that I have heard a little bit about you from one source.” Jo glanced back at Kat, who sent her a glare. β€œHowever, I’ve never been one to judge without being able to, you know, determine things on my own. You’re presence hasn’t bothered me so far, in fact, I’ve been enjoying it quite a bit.” Jo let out her world famous playful giggle as she looked Eden up and down and leaned back against her chair.

Eden truly thought the laugh was cute. There were also many other thoughts that came to mind but those were thoughts that would remain in her head, for as soon as the words were on her tongue, the bell had ringed, signaling the end of the class. The clattering of students gathering their things in preparation to leave rang throughout the classroom and Astra stood by the doorway, waiting for Eden. "Ah well, glad to know you aren't one to judge too early," she said as she began to walk towards the door. "I guess I'll see you around, Josette."
        β–¬ Time Skip β–¬
The rest of the school day flew by, though each class was still as boring as the last. Eden did a few things to change all of that of course, all that ended in her getting yelled at by a few of her teachers. The rest being used to her usual mischief, giving her only the bare minimum admonishments. Even Astra had joined in a few times, but for the most part, she stayed out of it, still trying to stick to her aversion of bad habits, though Eden could tell that it surely wouldn't last after today, and they'd both be back to causing trouble with each other once again.

Quite a few times did her mind start to wander back towards Josette, though Eden knew that it was only due to her being a point of interest for the moment, one that can easily die out as easily as it came. It was almost like a child receiving a new toy. As soon as she had her fill, she'd move on to the next. It was nothing short of disgusting, the way she threw people away so easily, which she was often reminded of by numerous people in her life, including her family and Astra, though that did nothing to change her behavior. Changing wasn't as easy as just getting yelled at every time, or just her happening about the right person either, and that was something she knew herself all too well.

She and Astra were hanging out in the courtyard of the school once more as she had decided she didn't want to go home just yet. There were many other students surrounding them that had the same thought in mind, each gathered in their own little groups, keeping to themselves. "Mind if I come over to your place today Astra? My house is gonna be empty and I don't exactly feel like being bored for most of the afternoon."

"Of course you can come over, and hey at least we have extra time to work on your trashketball skills!"

Astra was shoved to the ground again for making that comment.

β€œGoodness, I can’t believe you…” Kat scoffed, yet, there was no seriousness behind it. There was still her usual kind smile. The two girls were walking side by side down the hall after last bell had rung.

Despite that, Jo still looked at her with both a quizzical and slightly anxious frown. β€œWhat? What did I do?”

β€œYou were flirting with Eden Storm.”

The nervousness in Jo’s shoulders relaxed. β€œYou’re still going on about that?!” She let out a quiet chuckle, but quickly cut herself short to say, β€œAnd it wasn’t flirting! I told you that. That was the first time I’d ever even spoken to her.”

Kat scoffed once more before bumping her shoulder against Jo’s. β€œIt was absolutely flirting. Not to mention, your face was 50 shades of red, hun.” She snickered and cast a glance in the other girl’s direction.

Jo was silent for a few seconds, staring at the ground as they walked. β€œ... Well, can you blame me? She’s fucking gorgeous.” This made Kat burst out laughing; she even had to stop a moment to clutch her stomach.

β€œYou are so gay.” Jo only rolled her eyes in response. β€œI agree with you, though; she is pretty and I’ll give you that. But that doesn’t change the fact that she’s always getting both herself and everyone around her in trouble. Like, I heard she even went to juvie.”

β€œDo you know that for sure?”

        β€œWell, I heard Kara say-”

β€œThat means it’s just a rumor, so shush. Why does it even matter anyways? She can still be a good person; she just might have made some bad choices in her life.”

β€œA bad choice is garlic before a date. The things she’s done are just downright… terrible. I heard the last girl she dated-”

Jo put up a hand to silence Kat mid-sentence. β€œI don’t need you poisoning my mind with rumors, alright? Gossip does nothing but make everyone look bad.” Kat huffed under her breath, but her happiness returned as fast as it left.

The two pushed through some doors and entered the courtyard where many students had assembled with their friends. A scan of the courtyard led Jo to finding her target: Eden. She, of course, was going entirely against what Kat was saying to her. Jo had taken too much interest in the blonde; she wanted to know if all of these rumors were real. And what better way to get the answers than to go right to the source?

She watched Eden and her friends, which, in hindsight, was rather creepy. Jo just needed to find a way to approach them and casually enter their conversation. She heard the word β€œtrashketball”, which is something she’d regrettably never heard of. But through both context clues and the fact that Jo isn’t an idiot, she was able to figure out what they were talking about. Now she just needed something to throw. She shuffled through their bag; meanwhile, Kat was just watching her with her eyes rolling. Out she pulled her almost empty water bottle, which she swiftly chugged the remaining liquid inside. With a deep breath, she crushed the bottle in one hand and sauntered over to the two of them.

Once she was a few feet behind them, she tossed the crumpled garbage from hand to hand. β€œCourt shot!” Jo hopped in place as she tossed the water bottle into the trash; it rolled along the rim before falling inside. β€œNice, three points for me.” Jo smiled at the two girls triumphantly before acting as if she had just noticed who they were. β€œOh, hey, Eden. What’s up?” Smooth, Josette, smooth.

Astra eventually recovered from the fall she had suffered because of Eden, holding her arm like she had been seriously hurt it, but they both knew that was an act. "Sometimes I really question why I remain to be friends with you in such an abusive relationship."

"Because your life just wouldn't be as interesting without me." Eden shot her a smirk and elbowed her.

"I'm also starting to question if that's true or not."

"Obviously it is." They both stared at each other before descending into laughter. Neither of them had noticed Josette walking up to them, but what they had noticed was the shot that she made into the trashcan successfully. Eden only stared in what was seemingly a mixture of amazement and dismay on her face, while Astra chortled.

"If only you were able to make a shot like that Eden, if only."

        β€œOh, hey, Eden. What’s up?”

Sensing that Eden would pretty much be unresponsive for a while, Astra had decided to answer for her. "She's doing fine! And I figure that you're Josette.". She gave Jo a wide grin. "Despite being in your first-period class with you, I don't think I've introduced myself yet. I'm Astra." She shook Eden a little before she continued to speak. " You just transferred here right? How come you came to Monarch so late into high school? Did something happen at your old school that made you transfer? Wh-"

It was Eden who stopped her from continuing her game of twenty-one questions and shot her a look, as it was something that Astra did way too frequently. Astra only shrugged like she had done nothing wrong, but refrained from asking any more questions. "Sorry if she was bothering you, Astra has a bad habit of prying into things..."

"Actually, I was just planning on going over to Astra's house and would like to know if you wanted to come along." Eden didn't really question how strange it was that she was inviting someone she had just met over to her friend's house, and only waited patiently for Josette's answer.

"She's doing fine! And I figure that you're Josette."

β€œYeah, that’s me. But please, both of you, call me Jo.”

"Despite being in your first-period class with you, I don't think I've introduced myself yet. I'm Astra."

β€œWell it’s a pleasure to meet you Astra.” Jo flashed her that award winning, friendly smile.

"You just transferred here right? How come you came to Monarch so late into high school? Did something happen at your old school that made you transfer? Wh-"

The barrage of questions startled her at first; Jo isn’t one to reveal personal information so quickly into a friendship. Before even getting the chance to open her mouth and answer Astra, Eden interrupted. "Sorry if she was bothering you, Astra has a bad habit of prying into things..."

Jo brushed it off, shrugging her shoulders. β€œIt’s no need to worry. She’s just curious.”

"Actually, I was just planning on going over to Astra's house and would like to know if you wanted to come along.”

Jo’s face lit up almost immediately. This was the first time someone had invited her to their house; Kat lives in a dorm and usually just came to Jo’s house. She began to rock back and forth on her heels, a big smile on her face. β€œSure! I’d love to come over! One sec, lemme go grab my stuff. I left it right over there.”

Without waiting for a response, Jo skipped off to grab her bag. When she stood by Kat, the girl gave her a stern look. β€œWhat? I’m just… going to go hang out with them.”

β€œJust don’t expect me to bail you out of jail.” Kat was clearly concerned, but she hid it with her usual playful banter.

Jo could only roll her eyes as she slung her bag over her shoulder. β€œI’ll be fine; you don’t need to worry about me. I can hold my own. I’ll see you tomorrow!”

β€œAlright. Text me if you need anything, hun. I’m gonna head home. Ciao.” Kat gave her a joking salute before disappearing.

Jo sauntered back over to where Astra and Eden were waiting. While she had the slight amount of distance, she looked both of them up and down, although she did mostly pay attention to Eden. There was something about the girl… Her hair that always seemed perfectly windswept… Her angular facial features, like damn, her jawline could practically cut diamonds… She was the definition of gorgeous. Jo let out a quiet sigh, as if she was observing a beautiful piece of art.

Eden and Astra had gathered their belongings as well from a nearby bench. Astra hadn't exactly questioned Eden why she had decided to also invite Josette over, and she truly didn't intend to. After being Eden's friend for so long, she had understood that it was much easier for the both of them if she just went along. Whether that was actually helping Eden and her unhealthy habits was a whole different thing, and the answer to that would most likely be no. When Eden's backpack was finally slung over her shoulder and Astra's handbag being held in her hands, they waited for Jo to be ready before they finally left for Astra's house.

Jo glanced at the two girls with an impatient yet excited expression, still bouncing back and forth on the heels and balls of her feet. Once it seemed as if they had gotten all of their belongings together, Jo smiled at them. "Alright, I'm ready to go. Lead the way!" She hummed cheerfully.

A small smirk grew on Eden's face. "Then let's go." Astra had started heading towards the car before she had been stopped by Eden. "And I'm driving this time. I don't exactly feel like haven't a heart attack today and your horrid driving will guarantee that I'll have several." Astra still grumbled in disapproval, but still allowed Eden to get in the drivers seat while she instead sat in the front passenger's seat, Josette sitting in the back. All it took was the simple turn of a key to ignite the engine, and then they were off.

        β–¬ Time Skip β–¬

They pulled into the driveway of Astra's house about ten minutes after they had left the school. It wasn't anything that would be considered extravagant, but it was still nice going by most standards, being a two story, contemporary style house. Astra had quickly jumped out of the car, already having unlocked the front door and was inside the house as Eden followed behind her, leaving the door open for Jo.

Jo clambered out of the car in an attempt to follow the other girls, who entered the house so quickly. When she got inside, she placed her bags down and took her shoes off near the entrance; a habit that Jo marks off as common courtesy. The first thing that welcomed them was an open living room, the kitchen being on the other side of a half wall separating the two. Eden welcome herself to relax on the couch, resting her feet up on the coffee table in the middle of the living room. Astra had been getting drinks for Eden and her before she had glanced at Josette. "Would you like anything to drink?" she asked Josette from the kitchen.

"U-umm... Got any juice? Anything sweet, really. I need some sugar in me." Jo let out a nervous chuckle before mentally glaring at herself. 'Why am I feeling so... nervous?' While Astra got Jo her drink, she walked off and found Eden sitting on the couch. Well, more lounging on the couch. A tab bit awkwardly, Jo sat down as well, staring at her feet.

Astra gave a slight nod in acknowledgment to Josette's answer as she got her a drink too. Eden eyed Josette as she also sat down before she decided to sit up fully on the couch. "So if you don't mind me asking, why did you end up transferring to Monarch during your senior year of high school?" Eden asked Jo. She wasn't planning on asking as many questions as Astra did, but there was no denying that it was kinda odd to transfer when it was your very last year of high school. Eden ran a slow hand through her hair as she waited for Josette's answer.

For the first few moments, the silence between Jo and Eden was filled with awkwardness. When Eden sat up more formally, Jo tensed up slightly. For some reason, she was rather on edge. "Oh... Um, it's kind of... a long and depressing tale... I'll spare you the time and tears..." When she saw Eden toying with her hair, Jo's heart practically skipped a beat. The blonde was absolutely gorgeous. Breath-taking, even. "L-let's just say some shit went down in my family and my dad didn't feel like dealing with me... or my gayness." She let out a quiet chuckle, but it was clearly filled with nervousness. "Living in the south is... rough, for a girl who loves girls." She sighed and looked back down at her lap.

"Ah." She uttered with the slight bob of her head, understanding the problems that could arise from such a situation, and decided not to pry any further into it. By then, Astra had gotten all three of their drinks, and handed one to Eden and Josette, setting hers down on the coffee table. "I'll be right back." Astra said before marching up the stairs. Eden glanced at her before saying, "Bring a movie down whenever you come back."

"No!" Astra shouted halfway up the stairs.

        "Why not!?"

"Because all you do during movies is talk!"

Eden grumbled before she went back to lounging on the couch, sipping her drink with a look of disdain on her face. "I don't even talk during movies. I make comments, two very different things." she muttered. She stole a short glance at Josette before she went back to sulking.

When Jo was handed her her drink, she immediately took a few nervous sips. She hoped that the extra sugar would make her at least somewhat less jumpy. And thank goodness Eden had dropped the previous subject; that last thing Jo needed was to think about her father more. "I mean... sometimes other people's commentary can be why a movie is actually bearable. That's how I get through most M. Night Shyamalan films." She chuckled before lying back a bit more, taking another sip. "Especially if the commentary is snarky and clever."[/color] She smiled at Eden.

"That's the exact thing I keep trying to explain that to Astra but she honestly just doesn't get it." There was a short moment of silence before Eden continued talking. "So, random question, but what exactly have you heard about me? I remember you mentioned your friend told you somethings about me, but I don't think you've ever mentioned what exactly those things are."

Jo was almost immediately uncomfortable; she hated gossip and spreading rumors more than almost anything else. She looked down at her hands, which were balled up in her lap. "Well... Just, just stupid, exaggerated lies. That you had done a bunch of bad stuff... Were a total troublemaker... I think she mentioned something about you breaking a bunch of people's hearts? I dunno, just a bunch of bullshit." Jo waved her hand in the air as if she was waving away the lies.

"Well, there's always a little bit of truth in every lie." Eden said with an almost joking tone of voice before she stood up. "I'm gonna go see what's taking Astra so long, I'll be back." However, before she began climbing the staircase she saw a glimpse of white near the front entrance. There was a white envelope that was presumably slid under the door. Picking it up, Eden examined it. No return address, no stamp, not even the name of the person it was addressed to. Just a plain white envelope. She felt a little apprehensive about opening it, but eventually, she tore open the envelope and emptied out its contents before looking at them. "Shit."

Jo sat there and pondered as to what Eden meant. Sure, there was always a kernel of truth in every lie, but how much of it was true? Not to mention, she couldn't figure out which one of the lies would be the worst. Troublemaking was no big deal to her, but... being a heart breaker. Jo sighed and laid back for a moment. "I knew it was too good to be true." She grumbled under her breath. It was then that she heard Eden curse in the room over. Jo couldn't help but get to her feet and walk over; the curiosity was too much. "What's wrong?" She asked, quirking her head to the side.

At the sound of Josette's voice behind her, Eden quickly hid the pictures the envelope contained and tried to mask her anxiety as much as she could before she finally spoke. "Ah, nothing that I need to worry over right now." Shoving the envelope into her back pocket, she went back to her position on the couch, clearly more distressed than previously. Before long, Astra had come back down the stairs.

"I brought a movie since you were complaining about it so much." She said as she took her own seat on the couch. "But I'm not exactly sure if it's any good." Eden only grumbled a thanks in response.

Jo joined Eden back on the couch, but she couldn't help but glance at the blonde nervously. She was rather worried about what was plaguing the girl so much. Astra coming downstairs didn't distract her from this. Jo bit her lip and looked down at her empty juice cup. "Hey, Astra, I hope you don't mind, but can I have some more juice before we start the movie?" As soon as Astra had left, Jo, a bit cautiously, put her hand on Eden's shoulder. "Eden, there's clearly something wrong. What is it?"

She slightly shifted away from the hand that Jo had placed on her shoulder and ran an anxious hand through her hair. "You know how you have.."problems" with your dad? It's kinda like that, but with my younger sister instead." There was a slight pause. "She doesn't have any type of problems with me but with someone else..." Eden let out an irritated sigh, "I'd rather not have to talk about it." Getting up, Eden grabbed the movie that Astra had brought down and slipped it into the DVD Player before she turned on the TV.

Jo's face twisted up with confusion. If the problems were with the younger sister, then why was Eden so stressed out? And what had come in the mail that brought her mood down in the first place? "Well... Hmm." Jo paused, trying to choose her words carefully. "I don't know... if those situations equate. My dad dislikes me being gay, but this seems... different." She stopped again, looking down. "I don't know for sure, of course, because I know you're not telling me everything." She grumbled the last part a bit more quietly, but her voice was still audible. She raised her gaze back up and let it rest on Eden, her eyes full of both curiosity and concern.

"Well, maybe I don't feel like telling you everything." The statement had come out as harsh, a lot harsher than she had intended, but she had said it none the less. Astra had returned with Jo's drink, and sensing the tension that was in the room, had quietly set it down and had sat down the couch, not saying a single word.

The ice in Eden's words stung sharply, causing Jo to shift in her seat as if an actual chill had washed over her. She looked back down at her feet, which had started to twitch and move slightly in response to the awkwardness of the situation. "I-I'm.. sorry. I was just, you know, worried. I suppose I shouldn't have the... privilege of knowing this personal stuff... I only just met you and all..." Jo's soft, defeated tone of voice displayed her yielding, and her line of sight never raised from the ground.

By then Astra had already started the movie, an attempt at trying to defuse the awkwardness and hostility of the situation. Eden felt a slight tinge of regret behind her words, the statement coming out as crude and generally apathetic. Yet she made no effort to apologize for her words. Despite the questions being reasonable, Jo's "prying" had only furthered Eden's agitation, and now she only seemed turned off to conversation entirely. This was probably one of the most awkward moments Jo had every experienced, which is really saying something considering she had come out, face to face, to both of her conservative parents. It was so awkward, Jo didn't even want to look up from the ground to watch the movie.

After a few minutes, when Jo thought she would die of a mixture of discomfort and embarrassment, Astra jabbed her side. This made her jump slightly, but before she could question the other girl, she gestured to another room, wanting Jo to follow. She glanced back at Eden before she stood; she knew the blonde would notice their sudden departure, but Jo needed answers. With a quiet sigh, she got up and followed Astra into the other room.

"Sooo...I would first like to apologize on Eden's behalf. I'm sure that she hadn't fully meant what she said, well, not in the way that it obviously came out as." Astra had glanced back at Eden for a second before continuing. "Mind telling me why she had even said that in the first place? What happened between you two while I was gone?"

Jo felt immediately uncomfortable, her gaze lowering to the ground. A part of her didn't want to tell Astra what had happened to Eden. If she had gotten so upset about telling Jo, then why would she want other people to know? Jo bit her bottom lip nervously. This was Astra, Eden's best friend... "Well... She got this... weird package, envelope type thing, and when I tried to ask her about it, she got all mad and wouldn't tell me what it is." She shrugged. "I mean, I just met her, and I was kinda snooping so..."

"Honestly, I'm surprised she wasn't angrier." Astra was silent while she mulled it over. "It'd probably be best not to tell you...not before I talk to Eden about it anyways. Don't dwell on it too much, she wasn't mad at you specifically or at the very least she shouldn't be mad at you."

For a split second, Jo's mood brightened somewhat. "Oh! Well, that's good." It wasn't until after saying that she realized it really wasn't good. "I mean... Not really, though. Good she's not mad at me, not good that she got so upset over whatever was in the envelope..." Her curiosity was running wild as to try to come up with an explanation as to the contents of the mail. Perhaps one of Eden's past lovers was blackmailing her? Maybe she just gets really mad about junk mail? Jo nibbled on her bottom lip. "So.. do you know what was in the package?"

"I don't know precisely what was in the package, but I have a pretty close guess on what it could've been, and I really wish I didn't. She's been getting them for almost a year? Maybe longer? Though we still don't know who's sending them, or why for that matter. Of course, we have theories on who could be sending them, but we still don't know enough to confirm any of them, so we're pretty much clueless."

Jo bit down on her bottom lip, "It's like the plot of some sort of horrifying mystery drama." Her voice was low before she let out a frustrated sigh. "So... What now? I want to help, but..." She glanced over her shoulder, trying to imagine how Eden might have been feeling. "I only just met you guys... Uhm.. Have you gone to the police? I'm sure they'd at least try to help..."

"Going to the police was one of our first thoughts, but there were "things" in place that were stopping us. Even if there weren't, if we went to the police now Eden would probably be putting herself in more trouble. At least for now, that option out of the question." She looked briefly at Eden before continuing, and she was clearly becoming more restless by the second. "For now, let's just drop it okay? I want a chance to talk to Eden before telling you anything else."

She couldn't help but sigh and nod in agreement. "Yeah, that's probably for the best... But if you're willing, give me as much info as you can, when you can. I want to... Investigate more into this, y'know?" Jo looked at her, her eyes full of the innocent need to help her friends. "For now, we might as well just enjoy this movie."And Jo put on the best, weak smile she could muster.

Astra gave a small nod, one that was full of unease and concern but nevertheless returned to the seat she had before on the couch, making a joke towards Eden, one that Eden tried very hard not to chuckle at. At the time being, it seemed as though the tense air that the room held had dissipated.

"Still feeling bitter over what happened the other day, huh?" Although Astra question was met with a glare, it was truly the sole answer that she needed. The dilemma from yesterday was still something that clouded Eden's mind, and while she had done many things in an attempt to cheer her up it was practically ineffective. She sighed and slumped into the passenger's seat while Eden and her continued on their way towards the academy.

Soon enough they had arrived there, and on their way to the courtyard of the school. Astra spoke again. "You know, you really should apologize to Josette for what you said the other day." Eden gave her an almost confused look, but she knew exactly what Astra was referring to and stopped walking. "Apologize for what? For telling her to keep out of things she has no reason to be in?" "Okay, so she probably shouldn't have tried to get such personal info since she only knew you for a couple of hours, but that doesn't give you an excuse to be outright rude to her. There were much better ways to phrase something other than what you said."

Eden groaned and continued on walking. "Fine, I'll make an attempt to apologize to her, now can you please stop bringing up what happened yesterday?" Astra simply put an arm around Eden's shoulder and smiled "I'll happily stop bringing it up! I mean, as long as you do apologize." Eden only sighed, clearly the defeated on in this argument. The courtyard was already full of students that arrived at the school, some of them studying and others trying to get a few more minutes of sleep before school had officially started for the day.

Eden was one hundred percent ready to settle down in their usual spot and wait until there was only a few minute before class had started, but Astra had clearly had other plans and, while simultaneously ignoring all of Eden's complaints and protest to the idea, dragged her into the school. She had also decided to bring Eden to class early that day, and it would be safe to say that it had effectively put her in an even worse mood than she already was. They got there along with the other early birds, some who were surprised to see the both of them there so early but still went along minding their own business.
