Description

Vincente Flynn Ardente
Image

Role: Nicolettaā€™s Self-Proclaimed Protector

Gender: Male
Nickname(s): Vinnie and Vivi
Age: 19
Love Interest: ā€Iā€™ve got more important things going on then worrying about ā€˜love.ā€™ā€

Appearance: The truth? Vincente is actually a rather handsome young man. Heā€™s a bit on the tall and lean side, so he doesnā€™t really maintain a very intimidating presence if heā€™s just skulking about in the background or something. He seems to have gotten the tall gene in his family, like his twin sister, so of the Ardente bunch, he happens to sort of tower over the lot of them. Luckily, heā€™s at a healthy enough weight, so his tallness isnā€™t a probably, but he still kind of skinny though. Due to the exploits in which he carries out, Vincente has developed a bit of a muscle mass on himself, nothing that could be considered bulky, but enough to show that he is a strong young man, and that he is not to be doubted at all. In truth, heā€™s more of a lean figure who possesses a look of strength without overdoing it. He practices with his sword a fair amount, and is always working to keep himself strong, so thereā€™s not any sort of fat present on his body.

Heā€™s got scars. Some rather nasty ones, a few that his family knows about and a few others they donā€™t because he wants them to be kept secret. Much to his own relief, Vincente doesnā€™t have any scars that canā€™t be hidden by some well worn articles of clothing. The reason he bothers to wear as much as he does? Itā€™s to cover up the marks on his body. The worst of the areas on his skin would have to be the one right beside his heart, the scar he received after he was pierced through by that splintered piece of wood those years ago when heā€™d intended to go in and rescue Nicoletta. From the front of his chest and the back, there is a visible discoloration and indenture there from the incident. The rest of his form is mixed up with various sorts of markings for the most part, slashes, puncture marks, and other sorts of things. . . . In his normal state of attire, youā€™d never think that Vincente was a man who had seen as much as he has, he really looks ordinary when heā€™s like this.

Because Vincente maintains his weight and does his best to stay strong, his form is rather normal really. His face carries a healthy appearance, itā€™s not really slim like it would be if he were younger, no, you can tell heā€™s his age due to his features being rather sharper, and more developed due to no longer being a child, there is no baby fat on his face. Despite his efforts to look and be healthy, Vincente carries a bit of a pallor appearance, his skin is of a lighter tone than that of Nicolettaā€™s for an unknown reason, and he seems to carry no color in his cheeks at all. Unlike Nicoletta who shares those same grey eyes as he does, Vincenteā€™s eyes donā€™t pop in the same way as hers, yes, they stand out, but because heā€™s a boy whoā€™s just riddled with lightly colored features, his grey eyes are just another part of the package.

In terms of his hair, itā€™s kept short for the sake of convenience, unlike his father and his sister, Vincente has straight hair. Itā€™s of a rather light coloring, even being blonde, itā€™s not all that far off from almost being white . . . despite the fact that his hair is kept short, it kind of does its own thing some days, being unruly and whatnot. However, that ashy hair is simply what it is as far as far as heā€™s concerned.

Really, he just keeps a rather serious expression on his face most of the time. He doesnā€™t seem to smile a lot, only seeming to do so when with Nicoletta, and is teasing her. Normally, it seems like a forlorn expression is worn over his face, a thoughtful look that seems to hide something. . . . For the most part, it looks like Vincente is a calm man, for his expressions betray his emotions, no matter the situation, he almost always looks like he is calm.

Preferred Clothing: Clothing that can be moved around in, and that also will covered up his scars. This means pants, jackets, gloves, boots, anything thatā€™ll get the job done.

Height: 6 ft 2 ins (188 cm)
Weight: 154 lbs (70 kg)
Hair Color: Ash Blonde
Eye Color: Light Grey

Personality: Heā€™s a somber fellow really. Mindful, ever thinking, level-headed, and attempting maturity he might not be entitled to, Vincente is a very solemn young man. For the sake of his sister, he tries his hardest to be a protector, someone to whom she can look up to for safety, someone who she can rely on since their mother and father have distanced themselves from the both of them. Truthfully, Vincente is a smart person, he is intelligent and unlike Nicoletta who is on the naĆÆve side of the spectrum, heā€™s not so quick to trust, get attached to others, and he doesnā€™t define a person as good or bad off the bat and then maintain that view point. No, if anything, he tends to be suspicious of most individuals for long periods of time, until otherwise can be concretely confirmed, and heā€™s also quick to jump to conclusions when it comes down to Nicoletta. It doesnā€™t matter what his feelings are regarding a person, if he suspects that they mightā€™ve done something to his sister, heā€™ll act. Even if the person is a friend or a family member, if it is to protect her, Vincente will do what he feels like he must.

Really, his devotion to Nicoletta is probably his most defining trait. While his mother and father began to distance themselves from their children, and his twin sister Isolde began to turn into a wild child, ever changing, Vincente took on an unintentional role for his sister. To himself at least, Nicoletta was really the only stable aspect in his life that wasnā€™t changing too much, so, he took up the reigns of making sure she was safe. As such, heā€™s developed a mindset that seems mature at first glance, and as he is, he really seems like heā€™s a grown-up. Vincente is a serious person, he rarely ever jokes around and more or less, heā€™s the type who hates it when people ā€˜screw around.ā€™ Jokes, goofing off and those who dilly-dally utterly annoy him.

Of course though, whenever Vincente is in the company of his little sister, he lightens up, that seriousness seems to fade away and he begins to act his young age, like he really is nineteen. Jokes seem to bubble out of him, and he really . . . acts like something of a dork. He pokes fun at Nicoletta, teases her and plays the role of overly protective brother, to the extent that she finds him to be embarrassing. Even though he knows he is embarrassing his sister whenever he pokes fun at her, Vincente continues on doing it, because it is really one of the only things in his life thatā€™s normal, the relationship with Nicoletta looks like an ordinary bond between an older brother and sister. He protects her, and she tells him to shove off because sheā€™s not a child anymore . . . but he continues on doing what he feels like anyway. Despite knowing Nicoletta is a gifted child, he holds no terror toward her, he knows sheā€™d never intentionally hurt him or anyone else with her powers, and he only fears that he could lose her, like Aylin.

In total, Vincente is a good person, very much a protective guy regarding his sister, but underneath that heā€™s actually pretty much a normal nineteen year old, dorkiness and all. Even if he tries to act like heā€™s an adult, the fact of the matter is that heā€™s not, not really. While he does possess maturity, there are clear holes in his logic and how he thinks, and it makes it rather apparent that Vincente Ardente still has some growing up to do, no matter what heā€™s been through. While heā€™s not naĆÆve like Nicoletta, he is naĆÆve in how he views the world, and people, he seems to think that things are simple in a sense, that there is good, and evil, plainly. He doesnā€™t think the world has shades of gray, and for him, he measures whether people are good or evil based on how he perceives them in regards to his familyā€™s safety, namely Nicoletta. . . .

In truth, Vincente really isnā€™t too hard a person to figure out, you can stay on his good side by making sure youā€™re not a threat to Nicoletta, and you can easily tick him off by hurting her. Of course, there are other things which will press his berserk button, overall though, those things are rather commonplace in society, and they arenā€™t really noteworthy. They are matters such as, perceived injustices, corruption, people being wrongly treated, that sort of thing.

Oddities: Although he is a rather well-practiced swordsman, Vincente has never revealed the extent of his skills to his family or Nicoletta, not fully anyway. He doesnā€™t want them to know of his antics or to know how badly heā€™s been injured in training to become stronger.

Even if he is a swordian by nature, Vincente actually has a rather unexpected hobby, he enjoys domestic work, like sewing and cooking. . . .

For all the training heā€™s put himself through with his sword, Vincente is still a little bit of a clueless guy, heā€™s not stupid, but heā€™s of average intelligence and if something pops up in a conversation he doesnā€™t know about or understand, he wonā€™t admit it and heā€™ll just nod along.

Heā€™s a sound sleeper, unlike Nicoletta who is a sleepwalker, and talker, he doesnā€™t move in his sleep, at all. Vincente will just conk out wherever he is, and remain there, snoring and potentially drooling until he wakes up, or until someone violently forces him to rouse.

Despite possessing some powers of his own, Vincente is fairly unaware that he is, himself, one of the gifted people of Portum Animasā€™ populace.

Likes: Swordplay, poking fun at his sister, reading, cooking/domestic work, being active, animals, and exploring.
Dislikes: Rain, being injured, things heā€™s powerless against, the church and government, injustice, etc.
Hobbies: Cooking/domestic work, practicing his swordplay, reading, and going out exploring.

Fears/Phobia(s):
Necrophobia ā€“ Fear of dying
Vincente himself is not afraid of dead things, or seeing another person die, sans his family/sister, but he himself fears dying for the sole reason that he would no longer be there for his sister.
Taphephobia ā€“ Fear of being buried alive
For as long as he can remember, the prospect of being buried alive has left Vincente anxious and nervous. Itā€™s a fear that spawned from when he was exploring once, and heā€™d entered a small nook that he could crawl through, he got stuck and the tunnel collapsed on him, leaving him nearly buried. He managed to squirm out of the hole before it was too late however.

Skills: Vincente is an excellent cook, unlike Nicoletta who only cooks breakfast foods, he is able to fire up most any sort of dish and have it turn out well. Heā€™s truly a remarkable chef.

Swordplay, his ability to fight with his sword are quite honed and well-developed, although he is not the best swordsman in the land, Vincente is talented with his blade, especially for one who taught himself.

Preferred Weapon: A longsword he carries on his person most always.

Power:

Dowsing ā€“ Power to locate objects or people.
Psychokniesis ā€“ Power to move objects with the mind.

Abilities:

Dowsing

Locating. . . .
Although he is not in control of it, Vincente has the ability to know where a person is instinctively, when he shouldnā€™t have any knowledge regarding it. However, because he is not in control of his powers, this ability really only activates or acts up in times of emotional distress or when he is truly, truly desperate to find someoneā€”normally Nicoletta.

Psychokinesis

Object Levitation and Movement
Again, because Vincente is not really aware of how developed his powers are, heā€™s not able to do much with them. Possessing no control over his psychokinesis, he is capable of moving things with his mind, but only small objects, such as the size of a cup. If practiced, Vincente would be capable of influencing things to move that are much larger.

Personal History: Growing up as Nicolettaā€™s older brother, much of his past is the same as hers, minus the once potent link he shared with his twin sisterā€”Isolde. Born before she was, his sister actually seemed to take on the brunt of responsibility as opposed to him, acting instead of as the younger of the two, but as the older. He and she got along quite well, and were always connected by a powerful bond, they were close and they loved one another, quite a bit. They were undoubtedly twins, and they shared a sort of closeness that only twins may share it seemed. Vincente mightā€™ve been older, but Isolde always seemed to be the one protecting herself and him from being bullied, or otherwise, she seemed to be the protector while he was the one who needed protection. . . . As their parents first children, Vincente and Isolde were dearly loved, and treasured, Csilla and Aelius were very close to their young twins. And when the news came that there was going to be another member added to the family, Vincente himself actually grew quite happy, as did his twin, and together he and she grew rather elated and anxious for the new baby to arrive.

When Vincente was three, Nicoletta was born, happy and healthy. And as Isolde had done before, she assumed the responsibilities of an older silbing and took to protecting the newborn as she did with Vincente, but this time around, the boy also took part in the act. He took to defending his baby sister from whatever the need called for, he loved her much, and remained very close to Isolde as before. The link forged by the twins was strong as ever.

Vincente grew up a normal boy with his sisters, he wasnā€™t someone who ever really got into trouble or caused it, but he was someone who was indeed teased while at school. Though he wasnā€™t a weakling, he seemed to be a target since his younger sister, Isolde, was always defending him. Regardless of what he went through at school, Vincente remained a passive boy to others, unless it involved Nicoletta or Isolde, then he became a serious lad. Yet still, by some miracle, he never once got into a significant enough event in his younger years that would be anything remarkable. He was just a smart boy who enjoyed playing with his two sisters, that was all.

When he came to be seven years old, Vincente gained yet another sibling, the youngest Ardente childā€”Aylin. She was born sort of frail, she was small and a bit ill after her birth. So, after a bit of a shaky start to her life, Aylin came home and became the center of attention to the whole family. She had the adoration and affection of her three older siblings, and their protection as well, even the four year old Nicoletta assumed sibling duties, emulating the actions of both Isolde and Vincente in regards to the small baby. With his mother and father around too, Vincente was happy, content and his life was good. . . . Despite having four kids, Csilla and Aelius made plenty of time for all of their children, and made it quite clear that the lot of them were all loved equally. Even though Aelius was gone with his work a lot, his research and whatnot, he and Vincente were still pretty close, and shared a healthy father-son bond. Life was nice, even through the harder times when finances were not always a certain thing.

This happy-go-lucky, seemingly ordinary lifestyle came to a screeching halt when Aylin had just turned four. While Vincente was eleven years old, he still had that connection to his twin, and was as protective over Nicoletta and Aylin, as usual, his life changed forever when the four year old Aylin was forcibly removed from the Ardente household, and detained by agents from the government due to her status as a ā€˜giftedā€™ child, because she could heal.

Unlike Nicoletta whoā€™d witnessed the entire event, Vincente remained in the room he and Isolde shared, and only heard the muffled cries from downstairs, the stern orders given by the officials, and the desperate pleas of his mother as she screamed for them to please not take her daughter away. Heā€™d been so scared, and so stunned by the noises, that he couldnā€™t even move. Feeling as if his soul had become detached from his body, Vincente simply remained sitting on his bed while Isolde had her ear pressed up against the door, trying to make out what was just being said downstairs. There were bangs, the struggle between Aelius and Csilla, the man holding his wife back so sheā€™d not be harmed as Aylin was forced from their home. . . . The noises are something that have stuck with Vincente his whole life now, the pleas of his mother and the sounds of struggle between his mom and dad, they haunt him.

After Aylin was taken away, things in his family drastically changed, his parents became distant, his mother seemed to become a very passive woman while his dad just dove headfirst into his work, Isoldeā€™s demeanor and personality seemed to flip over, as she became a hostile girl who was rude to everyone. She seemed to have no regard left for any person but herself and snapped at anyone who tried to talk to her about it, or her antics, which had become very dangerous. Because of how Isolde had changed, Vincenteā€™s bond with her crumbled away until nothing was left over the next few years. The two became disconnected entirely, not speaking at all, until finally, she just up and left without notice. Although he probably should have been concerned, or upset, Vincente honestly came to feel nothing at all when his twin was gone due to losing touch with her because of how she changed. He was apathetic. Toward his parents, Vincente began to lose them as well. With Csilla, the boy found himself only acknowledging her, while with his dad he began to not even speak to him anymore, despite how well they used to get along. . . .

It was only toward Nicoletta that Vincenteā€™s relationship remained intact and established, as she was only nine when Aylin was taken, she wasnā€™t as shaken up about everything as the rest of the family was, though she was indeed a confused girl. It was for her Vincente made sure he kept on going for really, because of how disconnected their parents had become, Vincente took on the role of almost-parent, and took part in raising her. In secret, he began to train in the art of swordplay, and discreetly began to hone his skills with the blade.

It wasnā€™t until Nicoletta was fourteen though that Vincente began to really take this position seriously, after he was almost killed by a gifted child in the process of trying to get Nicoletta out of the same room, the boy did his best to recover ASAP, and to get back to his training. After this, he became a serious acting individual that only acted as his true self around Nicoletta. Finding out that she herself was ā€˜gifted,ā€™ as Aylin had been, this only strengthened his resolve to make sure that she was always safe, and that sheā€™d never be detained.

When Aelius wound up bringing two artificial humanoids home with him, deemed Amalia and Momchil, Vincente found himself uneasy toward the two due to how very doll-like they seemed to be. . . . But as the time passed, and they grew to develop semblances of personalities and emotions, he himself came to care for them, seeing them as part of his family, no matter what they were, or how odd.

As the best fell to electrocution, Alexi fairing little better from the injuries heā€™d taken from the Hunter himself . . . Nicoletta found herself not doing quite so well herself. Her shoulder was aching, and her body was throbbing with the need for her inner fire to release itself from the previous battle. It desired to incinerate something. . . . But, there was nothing left o burn up without revealing herself, her status as a Gifted. Death no longer loomed over her head, her life was no longer threatened . . . so why was it that her powers still desired destruction? In this state, what would happen to her? Could she keep control over herself, and resist the urge to burn?

She heard well what was going on around her, and she remembered why it was sheā€™d come to Dominion Hecate in the first place, whoā€™d she come with. The textiles, Momchil, Amalia . . . here for her mother. Her family was still there, and she still had something to do on that hot day, she had been sent to do something simple and had wound up getting caught in a battle with a monster like her sister fought. Mom. . . . I said Iā€™d get your bolts of cloth. Nicoletta reminded herself, her eyes shutting as her small body began to shake from the sense of her powers beginning to overwhelm her. The blonde stood where she had stopped after the battle had abruptly ended, her head cast down toward the ground, her arms hanging limp at her sides, the gun still in her hand. While her shoulder ached in pain, Nicoletta herself had begun trying to stave off the heat that was coming from her bones.

At this rate, she was going to be consumed.

"Well, your textiles are waiting for you and your siblings on the counter of the shop. I advise you to get them quickly before the cops fill the streets, armed with their papers and pens." she heard the shopkeeper speaking to her, but . . . it sounded muffled, completely so. The sounds of Portum Animas were dull in her ears. So, though it seemed rude indeed, the teenager gave no response to the manā€™s words, simply she stood there as before.

Iā€™m losing the battle . . . the fire is going to win, isnā€™t it? she questioned herself, body beginning to quiver as her heart sped up in her chest. A nervous gulp came from the girl as in her moment of panic, she found the grip upon her revolver loosening to the point that she let it go, the thing clattering to the pavement below. If I let go now, Iā€™ll end up following in Aylinā€™s footsteps, Iā€™ll be detained, and forced away from everyone.

Nicoletta didnā€™t want to have to let go of herself, she wanted to keep a hold on this, of herself and her power, she didnā€™t want to be shown as a Gifted. But, she wasnā€™t even sure if she could keep on going as this felt, her body was beginning to ache so much from it. . . . The heat was beginning to consume her from the inside out, her bones felt as if they were on fire, her skin and muscles felt as if they were melting. Tears began to run down the girlā€™s face as she continued her inner struggle to keep her grip. But, without meaning to, words slipped from her lips as she found for control over her own body, ā€œC-Canā€™t . . . I canā€™t keep this up. . . .ā€

Without warning, she dropped to her knees and her body lolled to the side hitting the hot pavement with a thud. No, Nicoletta was not yet unconscious, but she couldnā€™t keep standing and holding it at bay. ā€œGo-going to lose it.ā€ She mumbled, voice wavering as her form suddenly tensed up, and her eyes clenched shut. And . . . just as it felt as if she were going to go up in flames and consume everything around her with her fire, incinerate and burn so much, something broke her of those terrible feelings and thoughts.

A voice called from nearby, a voice she knew so well, ā€œNicoletta!!ā€ Even if she did at times pretend to be annoyed by the owner of that voice, at that moment, the blonde girl could not have been happier to hear it.

Her body felt like it had gone numb for a moment, as she struggled to move her head to look in the direction of the voice whoā€™d called for her. Tears still came from her eyes while the throbbing resumed, yet a weak smile worked over her face as a name came from her lips, ā€œV-Vincente. . . .ā€

Into view, a sword-toting young blonde man came into view, sharing the same grey eyes as Nicoletta, a look of worry etched upon his face. Nicoletta looked at him, happy to see her brother then. ā€œNicoletta, what happened to you?!ā€ he cried out, running over to her collapsed form, kneeling down.

ā€œAl-almost lost it,ā€ she told him, her voice soft. ā€œBut, I-I think I have control over it now.ā€

A look of concern overtook Vincenteā€™s face, ā€œYou donā€™t much look like you have control over it sis. . . .ā€

Nicoletta shook her head, ā€œI think Iā€™ll be all right, it was just an aftereffect of fighting . . . the battleā€™s over now, and there are more important things to worry about than me,ā€ the girl weakly moved herself up and pointed over to where sheā€™d last seen Alexi with his injuries, ā€œAl-Alexiā€™s gotten a nasty wound from all this, he needs medical attention. . . . Then, thereā€™s Momchil and Amalia too, theyā€™re still in the shop, waiting to gather the textiles for mom.ā€

ā€œNicoletta, the textile bolts donā€™t matter right now, mom might not thrilled if she doesnā€™t get them today, but sheā€™ll understand that your health, as well as Alexiā€™s, comes first. Same for the twins.ā€ Without giving his sister a chance to respond, Vincente looked around and spotted the shopkeeper who looked a bit like himself, of course, while Vincente had much the same thought about that as his sister, unlike her, he didnā€™t suddenly go and spout it out. ā€œIā€™m going to assume youā€™re the one in charge of the shop our motherā€™s shipping order got sent to by mistake; I apologize for this, but weā€™re going to have to leave those with you for the time being, Nicolettaā€™s not doing so well and her friend is injured.ā€
