Korzion Aryisar

A man from a far off place, Korzion is kind, but somewhat mysterious.

a character in “Frozen Hearts”, as played by TheRose202

Description

Age: Unknown, appears to be in his late twenties or early thirties
Race: Unknown, appears to be partially of foreign descent, with darkish olive skin.
Sex: Male

Description: He stands at about six feet five inches tall, with soft, flowing locks of midnight black hair that cascade down to his shoulders. He has somewhat almond-shaped, piercing brownish orange eyes, and eyebrows that curve in a way that seems to accentuate the intensity of his gaze. He has darkish skin, the complexion hinting at a mixed ancestry, as he is not quite as dark as one from the deserts, but not quite as light as an average Caledonian. His voice is smooth and softly accented with tones of an unknown origin, and is generally placid, though this only makes it all the more dangerous-sounding when he’s roused. He is well-built and his facial features are handsome and sharp with a longish nose, but the left side of his body is marred by old burn scars. They appear to have been from a very serious burn, though they aren’t so bad as to detract from his looks. The entire left side of his body is covered by ritual tattoos, the design exotic and almost tribal.

Clothing: He generally wears robes of a fairly nondescript design, but of a resplendent and deep crimson. He also usually wears a warmly glowing ornate steel greatsword across his back, the steel dyed red and the hilt plated with gold. He wears a leather satchel on his hip at all times, the front of which is emblazoned with the symbol of a flaming cross-hilt blade.

Weaponry: He has been trained in many different sorts of weapons, but he favours the greatsword over all of them. He is also highly proficient with spears, shortswords, longbows, and crossbows. He is also able to comfortably wear very heavy armour without decreasing his battle efficiency, and he has been trained to a lesser extent in spear and shield combat.

Style: In battle, he is a very calm and collected fighter. He is both strong and fast when wielding greatswords, particularly his specially crafted blade, Lightrend, which has been perfectly balanced for Korzion. He usually lights his weaponry aflame, and the fire created by him spreads to other objects very easily, turning cloth into a fiery prison and burning skin quicker than any mundane fire. Despite his prowess in combat, he prefers a more peaceful approach, and will always take to negotiations whenever there is the chance. Though he wouldn’t say it, he views those who relish combat too much in a very negative light. This is part of the reason he has been sent to Caledonia instead of one of the more militant members of the faith.

Background: Korzion is, technically, an orphan, though his background is somewhat unclear. It is only known that he is a priest in a cult hailing from a far away land that worships light and flame, and has the ability to take use of the element himself. He doesn't conceal his faith by any means, but his abilities are a different story. Only once has anyone in Caledonia seen him use them, and even then it was an accident. He is a man truly shrouded in mystery, and none have yet gotten close enough to unlock these mysteries, despite his friendly nature.

So begins...

A man in long, resplendent hooded crimson robes walks about the streets of the city of Glenora, basking in the crisp night air about him. His mission could wait for tomorrow. The Temple hadn't given him a timeline, after all, and this night was too nice to pass up. The street is somewhat crowded at this time of night, but people seem to give him either a very wide berth, odd looks, or both due to the strange dress and faintly glowing ornate greatsword strapped upon his back. Luckily for him, his hood is up, concealing the burn scars and the ritualistic tattoos which would most certainly gain him even stranger looks. In any case, he doesn't appear to mind, simply going about his business with a calm silence.

It is at that unfortunate moment that Korzion decides that he isn't really interested in anything the streets have to offer this late at night, and so begins to make his way toward the keep. Having gained the trust of the local lords a while back, he is able to get in without too much struggle. That's when he hears the shouting. Soon after, he's pinpointed the source, and begins making his way toward the dungeons, keeping his hands within his sleeves for now. The sound his plated boots make upon the ground are nothing short of a small cacophony. Certainly anyone would be able to hear him coming far down the hall, but the Valyrian man doesn't mind much. If it's prisoners, they'll be trapped. If they're guards, then getting the jump on them would be unfortunate for all parties involved.

((I do not know why the NPC bartender is there, btw.))

"I would really rather avoid more trouble," said Gem as she stepped cautiously into the hallway outside the cell she'd occupied. She was thankful to Toji for letting her out, but she was not particularly fond of the idea of following him. He was clearly quite familiar with violence and she was definitely not partial to the idea of fighting more guards.

"I'd just like to leave the prison, nothing more," she added to emphasize the point that she didn't like the idea of fighting. She was already charged with witchcraft. Breaking out of prison would be added to the list now that she'd stepped out of her cell and she didn't like the idea of adding more charges to that short list that was growing faster than she would ever have liked. Aiding a fellow escapee with attacks to guards and possibly murder at that? Not her idea of a party. Unfortunately, the knowledge that she wouldn't be able to get out of the situation by going by the rules was growing in her mind.

She looked behind her at the stairs that led to the next floor of the prison. Before Toji noticed - since he was looking away from her, possibly in the direction he felt the other lightning user, Gen dashed up the stairs and to the main floor. When she looked over her shoulder to look and see if the crazy kid had followed her she ran headlong into someone. Panicked that it was a guard, she jumped back and put her hands up knowing that enough fear would trigger the weird purple electric-like power she seemed to have sometimes. Instead, she was looking at Korzion, the man who'd tried to help her once very shortly after her mother died.

"It's you!" she said dropping her hands and trying to shake off the tingling feeling that came with the purple energy she conducted. "You have no idea how glad I am that it's you and not more prison guards!" The relief clearly showed on her face.

Korzion is suddenly hit in the stomach by a rapidly moving object that turns out to be a small girl. One he'd seen before at that. He gives a soft half-smile. "Gem? Now what would a noble Lady like yourself be doing in dungeons such as this? Why are you wearing such plain clothes? And why would you of all people be afraid of...more prison guards, hmm?" he asks, his voice as soft and calm as it usually is, though his tone is tinged with curiosity. "Been getting into trouble, have we? In any case, it can't be so bad as to restrict the rights of a nice young lady such as yourself. Let us leave this place. The guards shall be silent with a bit of gold to line their empty pockets."

The burned man turns, then, not looking to see if Gem's following as he walks down the dark hallway toward the alternate exit to the castle's east wall, which leads then almost directly out into the city. It's a fairly obvious flaw in security, but it expedited things when it came to imprisonment, which is presumably why it still existed. In any case, Korzion speaks little as they walk, seemingly looking straight ahead but in reality paying attention to every little detail that his senses provide. He would much rather not get into a scuffle with prison guards or whoever was yelling down here before. It would not make his mission any easier.

"I was arrested for witchcraft!" exclaimed Gem, trying to be quiet. "My stepmother, Nicolette had me charged while my Father is away on business. So they dragged me here."

She was trying not to whine or grumble too much. For some reason the fact that Korzion managed to seem calm almost all the time seemed to bring that out in her. She was also trying not to get worked up so she'd start making things fly or get all "energetic". She still had a hard time controlling the telekinesis, but she had learned to calm down and keep the other power - the pale violet-blue energy she could wield occasionally - from getting out of control.

"Why are you here?" Gem asked him, suddenly wondering why he was at the prison at all.

"Ah. Witchcraft, hmm? Perhaps your stepmother is a blessing in disguise. With this development, it will be much easier to get you out of this awful place and back to Valyria, where you will truly be safe and able to develop your abilities. I see you becoming a rather gifted Savant, if that is the life you so choose." says Korzion, smiling back at her for a moment before focusing back upon the path ahead. "As far as why I am here, I heard some fool yelling his name. Sound echoes fairly well off stone walls, you know. Whoever that was was not very smart, if my assumption is correct and they were not, in fact, a guard. Oh, and I became friends with the local lords over the time that we have been separated. They appear to enjoy the mystery of my 'exotic' culture, or something to that effect. It makes it easier to get places otherwise restricted to the general public." His voice is even softer than usual, though his boots still aren't the quietest. Perhaps it's for the best; it will block out the fact that there are two people walking down here instead of just one, Korzion having been the only person to descend the steps in a long while.

They do finally reach the steps leading up and out of the dungeon, having been uncontested in their journey up till now. "Now, follow me, and stay silent if you would. I would rather not have to run like we did the last time, and I am fairly apt at talking -- or bribing, if it comes to that -- my way out of difficult situations." He begins to ascend the staircase, then thinks of something and turns about again. "Ah, yes. Put these on." He tosses her a set of heavy metal cuffs, attached to each other with a strong steel chain. "It will make the image more realistic."

"That fool killed the guard who was guarding our cells," she said distastefully. "He was so loud and full of himself. I express no surprise that he was here in the first place." She said before Korzion told her to stay silent and tossed her a pair of manacles. Gem caught the cuffs and looked at him with a glare. She'd just gotten out of the blasted things, the last thing she wanted to do was willingly put them back on.

'You've got to be kidding me...' she said as she did what she was told. She locked them onto her wrists and followed him with a sour look on her face. She trusted he knew what he was doing, even if it was by means that she disliked.

Korzion senses her rather obvious glare, raising an eyebrow but otherwise not acknowledging it. "Keep your eyes down and do not act like one who was just broken out of prison. Do not speak and do not look at me. They cannot know we know each other. Remember that."

With that, he pushes open the heavy iron door that leads out of the dungeons, the first natural light Gem's likely seen in a bit, and much brighter than the dungeon's dim torches. The guards were currently discussing that, actually.
"'S too bleedin' dark down thar, I say." says the first, his accent extremely lowborn
"Aye, that 'tis, but what're we gonnae do 'bout it?" responds the other, his accent more of the Northern country than of the slums.
"Sh-shh." the other one then hisses, "Someone's comin'. We don' wanna be reported fer slackin' off an' talkin' while we're on duty, do we?"

Korzion emerges from the doorway and looks to either side, the guards giving him grins and sarcastic salutes. "Ah. If it ain't th' lord's favourite." says the first distastefully, "'Ere ta kiss 'is boots, are ye? What're ye even doin' down in th' dungeons?" Korzion refrains from responding to any of this prior to Gem's emergence.

She squinted in the light, the only natural light from before has filtered through that little grate and that wasn't much since it wasn't on the side of the building that had been lit by the sun. Since she'd only been in there a day, she wasn't dirty or anything but she felt like she wanted to take a long bath and wash off the scummy feeling just being in the moldy little stone room had given her.

She stiffened her shoulders and bit when she heard the guard's comment but stayed quiet with her head down slightly, the petulant look on her face as blank as she could make her expression get. She didn't understand how the guards could be so insulting to Korzion. She came out of of the door and stood next to him, like she was waiting for orders. In all truth, she didn't know what else to do and would welcome a command telling her where to go or what to do.

"What I am doing," responds Korzion in a colder voice than Gem would've ever heard she steps out, "is none of your concern. Your Lord has asked me to bring this witch to an inn deep within the town, and he has asked to make it as quiet as possible. If you two say anything to anyone your Lord will have both of your heads mounted above the gates. I hope I am making myself clear enough for your slow minds."

"Tha' doesn' make a bleedin' ounce'a sense, mate. Why would 'e want 'er in an inn?" asks the first one dimly.
"I am sure you can guess, if you really, really try." responds Korzion sarcastically. And with that, he gestures for Gem to follow, opening the door to the exit before the guards can respond, fairly certain that they'll not be any more trouble. When they emerge and he closes the door behind them, Korzion gives her a faint smile. "That went rather well." he says as he unclasps her manacles and begins walking down the motte leading away from the keep and toward the poorer Eastern section of the city proper, placing the cuffs back into his satchel. "Not quite sure why I keep those in there. Perhaps it reminds me of my childhood. In any case, I do believe some questions are in order. What happened with your stepmother?"

Gem momentarily wondered why manacles would make him think of his childhood but decided against it. When he asked her about Nicolette she felt anger flash through her but not so much that anything went flying around.

"My father went away on business. He needed to see to something in another port personally. I didn't think he'd leave Nicolette here but he did and she took charge of the house in his absence. I was staying in my room to avoid her, locking the door and only coming out to leave the house - which with her there wasn't going to happen since she seems to catch me somehow every time I tried - and to go to the kitchen and eat," Gem said. "Then there were soldiers at my bedroom door and I was being arrested for witchcraft. I can only assume by her 'oh, I'm so scared and innocent' act that she called them to get rid of me while my father was gone. This way she can't say it was her who tipped them off. It didn't help that I smashed a vase when they were dragging me out of the house."

"I doubt your father will be extraordinarily happy. But, unfortunately you will not get time to say any goodbyes. We must leave now. We can camp outside when it gets dark; I brought supplies for just such a contingency." says Korzion, as they reach the city streets and he begins to lead them toward the East Gate, which is luckily the closest to them and the one that will get them to Dragonsgate the quickest. Despite the urgency of their mission, he keeps a leisurely pace, his hood raised and his hands within his sleeves. Gem would likely blend in here, as all of the children, even the slightly less poor ones, have tattered, worn clothing, though they're generally less clean than her.

"You are still wishing to escape there, are you not?" asks Korzion, the thought having just now occured to him that her conviction may have wavered.

Gem didn't really understand why she was being asked. "Of course I do. Even if I didn't, anything I might have been able to have here - any sort of life just got ruined by the witchcraft charges. I'd still like to know how to control everything too. So far the only thing I've managed to figure out is how to keep myself from using the weird bluish electic-looking energy that runs through me when I'm really frightened or angry."

She looked up at him though she couldn't read his expression since his hood was up and it overshadowed his face.

Korzion grins slightly beneath the obscuring hood. "Excellent. I am glad this is your decision. It is good you have no doubt in your mind; such a thing would not serve you well in the times to come. I must warn you, it will not be easy, this journey. It takes months to cross the Dead Seas, and though I have never seen one, ships have been lose in those waters allegedly due to creatures that lurk within the deep. I do not put too much faith in fishermen's tales, but it is something to be watchful for...just in case." he says, his voice the same level tone the entire time.

"You will progress much further than that when you are trained. I see great potential in your abilities." he continues as they reach the gates, which are opened oddly without any questions. He mounts the red-haired destrier with gold battle armour that waits outside and holds a hand out to Gem with a soft smile. "Remind you of anything?" he asks.

A sound begins to form in the distance, like a constant rolling thunder. And then it begins to grow louder and louder until it becomes so loud that it sounds as if there is a great legendary beast at the gates. Everyone in this area of the city has quieted and looks to the gates. The sound subsides momentarily, and there is the sound of guards shouting and a loud crack, as if a small explosive charge has gone off. And then, suddenly, a massive harpoon explodes through the gate, the many large splinters it creates impaling a guard who looks on curiously, leaving the gate completely defenceless from this side. And then, the harpoon retracts back into wherever it came from, and pulls the gate off its hinges with it, throwing it aside like a used toothpick. Then, the roaring grows to massive proportions again as an equally massive machine made of iron bursts through the opening, shaped as one of the hammerhead sharks that inhabit Dragonsgate's bay, the front covered liberally with blades and points. A large projectile weapon containing a harpoon within its barrel also sits upon the front, swiveling of what seems to be its own volition. The people in the square all begin to scream as soon as the situation truly hits them, the section of the city turning to chaos in an instant.

If Gem were to say anything, it would go unheard, as Korzion scoops her up and mutters, "Change of plans," running towards a different section of the city. The massive machine of iron drives itself into the square on wheels of metal and rubber, copper and brass pipes curving from beneath it belching black smoke into the air, causing mild suffocation to any surrounding it. And then, from behind the dirty glass that protects the round cockpit from wind stands a dirty-looking man with a scraggly brown beard and a cap, goggles strapped over his eyes and obscuring his gaze within their foggy, scuffed glass surface. How anyone can see in those is a mystery.

"LISTEN UP!" He bellows in a rough, heavily accented voice, "Yer bein' raided! 'And over yer women and wine if ye'd like ta avoid a sufferin' most unpleasant." He raises the L-shaped contraption in his hand so that the opening at the end points toward the sky, and a bang rings out with a puff of smoke from the thing. Needless to say, this attracts the attention of everyone in the city. "Me mates'll be arrivin' shortly, an' I'd like ta 'ave this place cleared out by then. Understand?" He grins widely, revealing teeth filed into points. A raider from the Southern Wastes is unheard of this far north, yet clearly here he was, demanding their valuables with no fear at all, despite the guards closing on his vehicle, moving slowly as if that will make the man's attention shift from them. It does not. He smirks as he lowers his contraption to point it at one of the guards, and pulls the brass trigger...
