"Uh, okay. I guess," Kishi mumbled. Looking over, he realized the waiter was still there and looking at them both. Kishi gritted his teeth, clenching a fist. "What?!" he yelled at the waiter.
âFood time Ojii-san,â Ichirou shouted happily, patting Kishi on the head and the waiter on the shoulder. âThese pregnant women get cranky without our food.â The waiter bowed quickly, making his way off to the kitchen. âSay, Kishi,â Ichirou started again, âno yelling at old men, you got that? I will treat you like a bad little kitty. Spray you with some water or somethinâ.â He smiled at the Cat and chuckled. âDo you want to go to a gym after this? You can wail on me! I know you want to, cause everyone does. But I might be able to beat you up ⊠just maybe. I mean, you are a scrawny little guy.â Ichirou punched his chest as he flexed. âAnd I work out every day.â The waiter returned with a plate of random sushi, along with two extras for them. âThanks Ojii-san.â
Kishi watched as the waiter left, trying to ignore the fact Ichirou was calling them pregnant women. â...no yelling at old men, you got that? I will treat you like a bad little kitty. Spray you with some water or somethinâ.â Kishi glared at Ichirou for calling him a little kitty, but didn't say anything. As lame as it was, he really didn't want to be sprayed with water. "Okay," Kishi mumbled, thinking the conversation was over when Ichirou started speaking again. He was asking about going to the gym. "I mean, you are a scrawny little guy.â
Kishi's anger flared up again. Is he trying to piss me off on purpose? he thought, clenching his hands into fists again as he forced himself to stay seated, even though he wanted to flip the table. "You're on," was all Kishi said before the waiter returned with sushi. Kishi licked his lips, looking at the sushi. Without bothering to ask what it was, he began to eat while Ichirou said his thanks. "Arigato," Kishi mumbled around a mouth full.
Ateryu often calmed Nani after one of the family meetings that was the great thing about having a woman near your own age. Nani snapped out of it and smiled.
' Thanks Ryu, you know I just hate him so much.'.
Nani noticed her friend smoking, it was a habit she hated often reminding her of her fathers cigars. Her mothering instinct wanted to tell Ateryu to stop but she never did.
It was at that moment Daisuke appeared, the Ram. Nani truly felt comfortable around him because before she left the family they had grown up together much like the younger zodiacs now.
' How have you been?' She asked him as she fumbled into a large black bag she had been carrying. She pulled out her phone just to drop her sister a quick text.
Yoshi I forgot to make your lunch... home for dinner?
As she send the text she was zoning in and out of the conversation. "Hey I'm up for anything. I have no plans today, Nani do you have plans?".
Nani had to think a little, often she would clean up the house alongside Taiga, however she did need some food to make her sister and Taiga's dinner.
'Well I was going to head into the market to get some ingredients for dinner, your both welcome to come I'm sure Taiga wont mind'.
The snow crunched under Kenji's feet. It was cold but he loved it because it reminded him of English weather.
As Kenji basked in the winter sun he fumbled in his pocket to find a pen. Often his inspation for art hit him at strange moments and this was one if them. He brushed some snow from a garden wall and placed his bag onto it. He pulled out a blue book and opened it. Picking his bag back up Kenji began walking and drawing down the street.
He began sketching a tiger in the snow
It only took him a few minuted before he pushed the book into the bag on his back, not realizing it had fallen into the snow behind him.
"Th...thank you" when the girl said her name she nodded "Yimme my names Suzume... I'm out of high school I'm afraid", she got up from the ground.
It was curious how this girl would even think she knew who she was... then as other came out of the Sohma estate she realized she was surrounded by several members of the family. Suzume blushed a bit out of sheer embarrassment she was trying to avoid interfering with the family but had ended up doing quite the opposite.
You guys want to do something? I'm pretty bored plus when was the last time we hang out aside from family gatherings? Like middle school....weren't we at the hot springs."
Suzume looked up at the young man, he seemed familiar to her perhaps she had seen him in school before. She straightened out her haori. She would have loved to spend some time with them, but would they want to hang out with someone that wasn't a member of the family.
"Hey I'm up for anything. I have no plans today, Nani do you have plans?" said one girl smoking.
'Well I was going to head into the market to get some ingredients for dinner, your both welcome to come I'm sure Taiga wont mind'. another said that had red hair
"Yeah I need to grab food for my apartment, I heard foods important nowadays. Coffee first perhaps?" replied the girl that was smoking.
Suzume's head snapped back and forth as each person spoke, and then she turned back to the young man that was close to her age. She thought that none of them realized that she was even there, so she picked up her bag, she bowed politely to the girl that had helped her in the beginning.
"Thank you for your kindness again, but I think you and your family have plans" she glanced at the guy and nodded to him, and she then started to walk down the sidewalk once again.
"Also get whatever you want I'll pay. Feeling kind of generous today" looking towards yimmie on that stupid moped. "Hey brat skip school and bring your friend with you." Daisuke thought this was great. He was going to stroll downtown with a couple of good looking ladies.
Sohma House & Phuk Et Cafe
"This event is dismissed. You all may leave"
That was all Rei needed to hear before she stood bowed to God, in an almost sarcastic manor, and dashed out of the Sohma Residence. She was so going to be late for work. She jumped on her bike and peddled like her life depended on itâŠbecause it sort of did. Two jobs and college, what a lifeâŠshe felt like she seriously needed a break but she couldnât afford toâŠnot only was she supporting herself but her sick mother as wellâŠShe skidded to a halt in front of the CafĂ© she worked at and dashed in, putting her apron on in the process. Running to the clock in computer she paused in wonder as she looked at her work statusâŠ.she was already clocked in?
âYou are so lucky I like youâ Said a feminine voice from behind her. Rei let out a sigh of relief as she tuned around to face the slightly taller, beautiful older woman. Rei smiled at Koko, her co-worker and her flat mate.
âThank you so much!â Rei said as she hugged Koko with a smile then brushed her fingers through her long bubble gum pink hair and smoothed down the cafĂ©âs uniform, which was a white blouse and short black skirt.
âYou are the BEST Youkoâ she said and grinned.
âWhy where you late this time?â Koko asked with a look that said she knew what Rei was going to say.
âFamily emergency?â Rei said hesitantly with a small weak smile. Koko Rolled her eyes.
âYa okay, just get to workâŠyou know some day youâre going to trust me enough to tell me why you always have these family emergencies and why dating is out of the questionâŠand why you are a vegetarian tooâŠâ Koko said as she handed the younger girl the platter and turned to finish her own order.
Rei felt her smile drop for a momentâŠshe could never tell anyone about the curseâŠit was hard keeping it from the worldâŠbut it would be harder to explain to the world. She shook off the gloom with a smile and started work, serving a group of older women first then taking the order from some other.
Youko watched the younger girl with a small frown. She knew it was none of her business but she worried about the girlâŠshe was sort of like a sister to her and she didnât want anything to happen to her. She sighed as she brushed her own strands of stray hair out of her face and put on her work smile as she went to greet customers.
Yoshino heard the short beeping of her cellphone letting her know she had received a new mail and quickly pulled it from her jacket pocket. She flipped it open long enough to scan the message from her sister and type her own reply.
I'll be there.
She released a sigh as she shut her phone, rolling her eyes as she put it away. It wasn't that her sister annoyed her, it definitely wasn't that, but she behaved as though she were Yoshi's mother away from home. As they were biological sisters, Nani could be quite overprotective at times and typically made the pink haired girl a lunch for school every day. She was that dedicated to making the younger girl feel welcome and happy.
It was exactly with this thought in mind that she'd sent her short but to-the-point text. It didn't let her sister down and promised that she'd be present, something that didn't change up much. Yoshino often put her sister's feelings before her own, after all.
She raised her head and looked around, not having realized she had paused just to read and reply to the message, and continued on her way. Yoshino crossed the street as the turn to school was coming up but almost stepped on a book.
"What...?" She asked as she turned her head around to search the general area but Kenji was nowhere in sight. She'd seen this book in his possession quite regularly since she'd been in the same class as him for quite some time now. For the second time in the last few minutes, Yoshino sighed as she bent and picked the book up before looking at her watch.
"I'm late?!"
This irritated her as she placed the book in her bag and, gripping the bag tightly in her hand, sprinted the rest of the way to school. Having grown up learning that tardiness was extremely impolite, Yoshino was the type to absolutely hate being late. Which might be why she only bowed and nodded to the teacher as she entered the room before she found her regular seat near the back and beside the windows. She ignored her family members, as she often did at school, mainly due to her frustration with herself.
Suzume turned back and looked around her like perhaps there was someone else he was speaking about.
"Me too?" she asked.
She looked at Yimme it wasn't a good idea for him to suggest that she skip school. But then again if she were to go she would be skipping out on her turn at the shrine. But perhaps her grandfather would understand, that she went out with someone at the last minute. But then again she would have to explain why she was going anywhere with one Sohma let alone a whole group of them. Her grandfather would be worried for her, if he knew that but maybe she could just say she ran into some friends they invited he.
She stood next to Yimme, and looked at the girl, "Are you going with them?" she asked.
She probably sounded silly asking the question to someone that was obviously younger then her. But as of right now Yimme was the one she was familiar with.
She couldn't tell if he was joking or flirting. Either way she laughed, "I'll keep that in mind." Ateryu liked the idea of the cafe he offered up and was thinking about which way to go when he yelled to two people a few feet away from them. When she looked she saw Yimme and an unknown girl. She didn't think this girl was a Sohma and she wondered why Daisuke would invite a stranger with him, but then realized it was probably because she was cute. Well Ateryu didn't mind. Meeting new people gave her a chance to interact with them and study them better. And the better she understood people the better she could design and write about characters in a book.
So now she would wait for someone to lead the way because she couldn't for the life of her remember where the cafe was.
So Yimme ignored him and looked back at the new girl she just met. Her face seemed happy, well besides the blood rolling down her chin she seemed happy. Yimme realized that this girl might like Daisuke, or at least took some interest to him. So then Yimme decided that she would skip school though she might get in trouble from the older Sohma's later, she didn't mind hanging out with a different crowd.
"Are you going with them?" Asked the girl
Yimme smiled and nodded yes "Hey Daisuke! My names not brat it's Yimme get it right! And also I'll be taking you up on your offer but you better have my back if anyone gives me a hard time for skipping!" Yimme was still a little unsure about missing school especially since some of the kids in her class were Sohmas.

He opened the door, not bothering to hold it for the others. "yo Rei! how's it going" he waved to her before sliding into a booth. He looked towards her and quickly looked away. Waiting until the others came in and sat down did he ask the stranger what her name was. "I'm daisuke by the way, nor am I usually this nice but what can i say I woke up on the good side today" his arm went down the booth almost around whoever sat next to him. It was a rare thing indeed now-a-days.

âDaisukeâŠ.what brings you here cutie? Oh, Hello, Yimme, Ninato, Ateryu Come, have a seat, Iâll be over to get your order in just a minute.â Rei said as she turned to grab another order off the counter.
âRei, donât dally girl, I donât want to have to fire youâ the owner called to Rei making her shuffle faster. An older man slid his foot out of the booth and down Rei went. The man whistled as he could see her pale pink panties. Rei turned bright red as people began laughing. She sat there for a moment, wearing a bowl of clam chowder and sticky white rise before she pulled herself up with as much dignity as she could and started cleaning up the mess.
She felt like crying but wouldnât give the man the satisfaction. People continued to laugh as her boss came out and yelled at her.
âClumsy girl! Now look what youâve done!â her boss yelled. Rei said nothing just continued to clean, only because she really needed the job. Youko watched with irritation and worry wanting to go tell the man and their boss where they could shove their job but she knew the consequences for that would be dire for Rei so she sat back and waited for the girl to come to the kitchen so she could comfort her.

"Hey!" Daisuke wouldn't let someone do that to the girl he liked. He got out of the booth his eyes narrowed ready to beat the living crap out of both of them. "don't yell at her. That jackass over there tripped her to get a shot of her panties" His red eyes looked fierce and dangerous. He grabbed the older man by the collar knowing all to well he could kick his ass. "Tell him how you tripped her to see under her skirt." Looking into the older mans eyes before pulling him off his seat. In his mind rei would be grateful for him to stand up for her. "Girls you saw that to didn't you!"
"I saw it clearly. Dai you should just kick his ass, show him for perving on an innocent girl."
Nani nodded in agreement about the cafe, though she had to be back home to make lunch for Yoshi, a cake at the cafe wouldn't hurt.
Nani smiled at the two younger girls that joined them but her mother Hen vibe began to shine through.
' Yimmie I would prefer you went to school, it's not wise to be skipping or listening to Daisuke' she scowled at him as she spoke but then smiled briefly.
She engaged in general chit chat with Ateryu on the way, mostly about work and life. They had been friends for a while now and Nani could always knew she could trust her though Nani did trust easily unless it came to her sister.
As they entered the cafe Nani noticed Rei and smiled at her taking the seat that was offered. She barely hadtime to breathe before Rei clambered to the floor. In all honestly Nani had not seen the accident and being quite conservative she did not want to be involved but Daisuke began to shout. Felling it her duty she gently stood up and placed a hand on his shoulder to let him know she would handle it. She gathered from the older gentleman's smile that it was he who had tripped Rei up.
'Try to calm down Ram...' she muttered before indicating for Ateryu to follow her.
She headed over the owner of the cafe ' Your staff member was tripped by a customer, if you would be so kind to make him apologize before my friend over there makes him with force'.
It wasn't a threat, but Nani liked things to be kept neat but she was also protective of people just like a mother her and Rei did not deserve to be bullied.
Kenji took his seat next to the pink haired Sohma. There were other Sohma's dotted around the room but they never seemed to acknowledge each other which always confused him.
Kenji went to unzip his bag to get out his work pad only to find the bag already open without his book in. He panicked a little and frantically began looking around his desk, causing himself to push his chair back and fall off it. He lay for about five seconds before jumping up to the sound of laughter
' I'm OK guys, just a little trip' he laughed nervously when his eye caught the teacher.
' You Young man are a trouble maker, sit back down before you embarrass yourself further' the teacher barked at him, this was a regular occurance for Kenji so it didn't bother him much, though he was worried about his sketchbook.
Suzume immediately went down to the floor and started to help the girl named Rei, she knew that it would probably be odd for a total stranger to help her. But there was no sense in her cleaning the whole thing by herself.
"Here I'll help you out" she said as she picked up a bowl that had went flying.
She then pulled a cloth from her bag and started to use it to help clean up some of the chowder that had spilled on the floor. She then put the bowl on the tray that Rei had been holding in the first place.
"There..." Suzume tucked a piece of hair behind her ear when she got a good look at Rei she was sure they had some classes together when they were in high school. "Rei... right I think we were in home room together during my last year of high school. My names Suzume Nakashima."
Girls you saw that to didn't you!"
Suzume turned when she heard... what had they called him Daisuke yes that's right.
"Yes Daisuke we saw it but, bullying back a bully isn't going to help Rei" she said quietly but still loud enough to be heard.
She was sure that after his actions that Rei might loose her job for his hasty reaction. She understood that they wanted to protect Rei but perhaps the family was going about it in the wrong way.
She turned back to Rei, "Here you should go back you have chowder all over the front of you, I might have a change of clothes in my that might fit you if you need it. I think we're about the same size".
"Tsk" he was aggravated and once he saw the stranger helping rei he grew more irritated. Sitting back in the booth he stared out of the window and watched the snow. Waiting for either the situation to be over or be called to rough up the customer.
Either way he was staying and getting some hot cocoa. To see Rei so active from one table to the next looking cute and flustered. He smiled lightly as he drifted in his own world for a few seconds. He thought this would turn out differently. He'd make I the boss and Customer apologize to rei and she would fawn over his heroism. But this was reality and that never seemed to work in his favor.
" Yimmie I would prefer you went to school, it's not wise to be skipping or listening to Daisuke"
Yimme started to think that she was right. Why was she listening to Daisuke!? When has he ever done the right thing! When all of the commotion started to happen Yimme just watched from her seat. She couldn't stop getting the idea that something was happening important at school. But if she deiced to wimp out and go to school first of all she would get into trouble for being late and second of all she would never hear the end of it from Daisuke.
So when most everything was settle Yimme went up to Ninato and said "Ninato I think I am going to go to school you were right it's not wise to skip out." Then she ran out the door not looking at the others. Yimme was a good girl she didn't want to be a bad person she had to keep her innocence it was one of the last things she had.
After getting her moped and driving to the school she was defiantly late. She grabbed her bags and ran threw the front door and towards the class room. Yimme slowed down and stood out side the door for a second, she took a giant breath and open the door. The teacher instantly stared her down. "I'm sorry that I was late I have a good excuse!" The teacher just pointed to a open seat. Yimme in shame hung her head and walked towards the open seat and sat down ready to learn. She looked out the window and thought to her self. 'Maybe I should have stayed with the others...'
Daisuke had defended her....and it would probably get her fired....but damn he had defended her! She couldnt help but smile but she buried it not wanting her boss to see..
"Thank you Suzame" She said and bowed as she took the tray back to the back room.
"Your fired" She heard from behind her as soon as she walked through the door to the kitchen. Rei felt her heart stop and saw her mothers face in her mind. How was she going to pay for her meds now? She felt her eyes well up with tears and tried to fight them.
"Now thats not fair!" Koko exclaimed
"My decisions final, that man out there is threatening to sue if i don't get rid of the brat." the woman snarled then walked out of the kitchen.
"I'm so sorry Rei....we'll get you another job i promise....one with a boss that isnt a total bitch." Koko said with a weak smile. Rei froced a smile back then took off her apron and headed towards the cafe exit.
The meeting had been surprisingly short; it wasn't like Taiga minded in the least, though. He still had plenty of work to do cleaning up the shrine and he hoped to get it all done before too many people came by. By the time he got out of the estate, everyone else seemed to have already gone elsewhere. He certainly didn't blame them for hurrying to get out of the snow, though.
Thankfully it wasn't a particularly long walk back to the shrine, though he knew he'd be out in the snow again shortly anyway. Within a couple minutes he had arrived, panting slightly from the quick pace he had taken up the steps to the Torii gate. Frowning slightly as he realized the branches of the trees on either side of the gate were beginning to encroach it, he shook his head and continued forward, making a note to deal with it later.
Hurrying around to the back of the shrine and through the door into the living quarters, he changed into a slightly heavier white keikogi and a gray-green hakama. Pulling on another layer of gloves over the thin cotton ones he was already wearing, he pushed his white hair out of his face and grinned. Returning to the yard, he grabbed a snow shovel, a heavy-duty broom, and a bucket of salt and quickly set to work clearing the ablution pavilion, and the path back to the living quarters, of snow and ice.
Torako yawned as he made his way to the shrine for his almost-daily visit. It wasn't a long walk from the university and the caretaker was nice and kept the place clean, so he did tend to enjoy making the visit, even on snowy days. He had decided to make a slight detour today, however. Heading through the town to stop at a cafe, he stopped just inside the door, surprised at the commotion inside. There was a waitress with chowder all over her, a table full of Sohmas, a very disgruntled customer, and an angry cafe owner.
"Two hot chocolates to go, please." he waved at the owner as he came in.
Humming the melody he'd been working on in class earlier, he took a seat at one of the unoccupied tables and pulled his music composition notebook and a pencil out of an inside pocket of his jacket. Flipping the thin book open to the midpoint, he tapped his eraser absently on the table to the time of the music he was humming as he tried to figure out how to finish the song.
"You're on," was all Kishi said.
âGood! This is going to be fun,â Ichirou retorted. Silence then fell upon them as they ate, but to Ichirou it wasnât one of those awkward ones. It was a nice one. Of course there was the chitter chatter of others around them, but it wasnât horribly loud. Something about the low hum of voices calmed him. âI have a question,â Ichirou stopped momentarily. âDonât you like being outside? I mean, not locked up all the time? I donât really understand why Yami didnât confine you after you graduated.â Ichirouâs voice was hushed to the point where only the two of them could hear. âDonât get me wrong, Iâm glad youâre not ⊠but why so tense around everyone. People that donât know about us arenât going to look at you different, they donât know you. I think you should get out more, make friends. Ya know, other than me,â Ichirou said with a smile.
It seemed as if Ichirou had no perception of what was okay to say around some and what wasnât. If Kishi was getting upset at all, it was completely impossible for Ichirou to know. âMaybe Yami doesnât want to confine you ⊠maybe someone else has caught his eye, maybe he wants someone else to be locked away forever.â
Keiko noticed Yoshino walk in, but Yimme never appeared. She was at the meeting today ⊠she might have been skipping. The late bell rang, all calm, when a very tired looking Yimme appeared. Keiko wanted to say something, Iâm glad you didnât skip, or Happy youâre here, ⊠but something about talking to the other Sohma, besides Ichirou, just made her choke up. Then a thud came from somewhere in the back of the room. Everyone but Keiko looked back, considering the fact that she was taught to never take her eyes off the teacher if another student was disrupting. âI'm OK guys, just a little trip,â Kenjiko Hima said. It was her job to know everyone in her class and the other class reps. His voice was easy to identify.
âYou Young man are a trouble maker, sit back down before you embarrass yourself further,â the teacher barked at him. It didnât take long for the teacher to begin lecturing, and Keiko was trying hard to keep focused. There were just too many things buzzing around in her little head.
âPsst, Keiko,â Shou said. He sat directly beside her, so it was hard to ignore. âKeiko,â he whispered a little louder. She simple shook her head.
âMister Shou, you really should be paying attention. If you have a question, ask me. Donât bother the other students.â Mrs. Takahira shook her head and went on talking.
âKeiko,â Shou tried again. âKeiko!â Finally, she gave in and looked at him. âI love you.â Keikoâs eyes opened wide into a âseriouslyâ stare. With nothing to say, she looked back at the teacher. Something was telling her that was going to be a very long class.

Kishi was happily eating, content with the silence. It was comfortable to him, since he was so used to it.
âDonât you like being outside? I mean, not locked up all the time? I donât really understand why Yami didnât confine you after you graduated.â Good point... he thought. "Donât get me wrong, Iâm glad youâre not ⊠but why so tense around everyone. People that donât know about us arenât going to look at you different, they donât know you. I think you should get out more, make friends. Ya know, other than me,â Ichirou said. Kishi paused to consider the question as he finished chewing his food. He never really thought about why he acted like he did, it was just natural. After a moment, he answered. "If your whole 'family' has this bitterly out look on you, and it's what you grew up with and are used to, you kind of just feel that way all the time. Like you should be alone," he said before popping the last piece of sushi into his mouth.
âMaybe Yami doesnât want to confine you ⊠maybe someone else has caught his eye, maybe he wants someone else to be locked away forever.â At this, Kishi choked slightly on his food before mumbling a 'yeah maybe'. If he does, I don't want to be a part of it, Kishi thought.
"If your whole 'family' has this bitterly outlook on you, and it's what you grew up with and are used to, you kind of just feel that way all the time. Like you should be alone," he said before popping the last piece of sushi into his mouth.
âYeah, I guess youâre right. I mean, thatâs obviously how it works. People act the way they do because the way they grew up. I used to be a total brat âcause I got whatever I wanted. Iâm even sure that if Keiko hadnât had everyone constantly telling her what a âhorribleâ and âdisgustingâ person you were, the two of you might have actually been friends. But I guess the ârents and the rest of the Sohma messed us all up. Sucks,â Ichirou said on a rather cheerful tone as he waved over the waiter. âHere you go, Ojii-san. Keep the change.â Ichirou handed the man a $20 bill, already knowing about how much it had cost. âNow Kishi! To the gym!â Ichirou got up quickly, practically dragging the younger man out of his seat and out the door.
After the car was started and warm, Ichirou let out a sigh. âI cannot wait till it is summer!!â
