Jaystin Isilus Quahl

The main magician who is known as Fayde.

0 · 522 views · located in ANA Academy

a character in “Fullmoon Freakshow”, as played by Skittles ♫

Description

Name: Jaystin (Jay-s-tin) Isilus Quahl
Nickname: He goes by either Jaystin, Jay, or Fayde
Show-name: Fayde
Age: Seventeen
Gender: Male
Image
Personality: Jay is very light-hearted and fun. He likes fun. Jay loves to joke around or goof off. QHe enjoys pulling pranks and is typically a good sport when a prank is pulled on him. He loves performing and is undeniably good at it. The crowd always loves him and what he can do with his quick hands and card deck. He is very clever, thus the ability to create new magic tricks to present during the show. It is indeed a very rare occasion when someone can guess or catch how he does his tricks. He is definitely an attention seeker, even though he doesn’t mind sharing the spotlight (as long as he has a time of his own to shine).
Number: Seven
Act: Magician
Talent/Natural Ability: Illusions and trickery.
Crush: Caitlyn (also known as Whisk).
Grade: Junior in High School
Image
History: For as long as he can remember, Jay has wanted to be a magician, and for as long as he can remember, he’s been good at magic tricks. The only really tragedy in his story is that his parents were rich and didn’t approve of the childish tricks that Jay created. They wanted more for him and called him a freak for being capable of such foolish things. Jay was terribly upset and ran away from home when he was ten years old. He began street performing for the locals and the people fell in love with him. One day he was visited by the Headmaster who offered a place in his academy. Jay agreed and left his homeless street performing life to join the academy. He fit in with the rest of the “freaks" and became a star performer for the Headmaster once the show began its monthly routine. He has never heard from his parents since he ran away, although he tried writing them once or twice. They never wrote back.
Other: He always has a deck of cards with him, no matter where he is or where he goes.

So begins...

Emily watched as clouds rolled under the wings of the plane. Guilt swelled up in her, causing her throat to dry up and chest to hurt. She left Caroline with nothing but a note explaining her disappearance. What would her parents think? Would they care? Would they be furious? What if they took it out on Caroline and Simon?
She pushed the thought from her mind. They wouldn't notice she was gone, and they definitely wouldn't mind she was gone. How had she gotten mixed up in all of this circus stuff anyway? All she did was fix a generator. Nothing special. Nothing worth notice.
She shifted in her seat. Wow, these seats are really uncomfortable, she thought. Without thinking, she glance to her left and found the boy from earlier with a disapproving glare. She looked away almost immediately and sunk further in her seat. She didn't belong there. What was she thinking? She slowly moved her eyes to him again and gave him a shy and awkward wave, accompanied by a shy and awkward smile. Who was he anyway?

The first class cabin was lively and full of laughter. Flick smiled as the Favored Eight celebrated their performance. She nearly died of laughter when Fayde gently put his hand on Cat, which made her choke on the soda she was drinking. The cabin erupted in laughs as Cat struggled for air.
"So," Fayde began after Cat collected herself. He sat down next to the animal trainer and crossed one leg over the other. "That was a close call with the generator, don't you think?"

Caitlyn inhaled deeply, swallowing and trying to regain her breath. Her lungs ached and the panic that had risen up in her was finally starting to settle, but she could still feel Fayde's shoe, gently resting against her knee, causing her brain to do things it shouldn't be. Scenarios flashed before her eyes, scenarios of situations that Caitlyn was sure would end in her falling over, flushed and awkward and babbling. Stupid Jaystin, always making her so flustered.
"Yeah," she said smoothly, taking another drink of pop to minimize the stinging in her throat. "I'm just glad Em was just wandering around. Seriously, it was just fate she knew how to do that."
Quake nodded, smiling pleasantly. "The kid's pretty awesome," he agreed, laughter still in his voice, which caused Cat to scowl deeply at him.
She wasn't sure if the boys had caught onto her fawning over Fayde; Cat wasn't exactly the best at hiding her emotions. She knew for sure all the girls knew, mostly because she had actually told them she was crazy about him. Still, it annoyed her that they were always reminding her about it. The raised eyebrows and small, knowing smiles were getting old, especially when everyone was around and watching.
"I wonder how she'll fare, though," Glitz pointed out. "She doesn't seem like the most confident person, and with everyone going to the academy being so ... so competitive, don't you think she might get kicked around a little bit?"
Griz frowned into his orange juice. "It wouldn't be fair."
Cat looked at him curiously, then at Fayde, Smoke, Vamp, and Flick. "When did this place ever become fair? No one here likes us, Griz, if you didn't notice."
The tall daredevil's eyes darkened and he flicked his gaze up to her. "Exactly, which is why we should bring her in."
Glitz blinked. "What do you mean, bring her in? As in ..."
"As in, in the group," Griz finished, looking at the others. "Shouldn't we at least give her a chance? No one else will."

Cat looked up from where she was taking out folded shirts from her suitcase and laying them on her bed to hang up. When she caught sight of Jay, her stomach did a flip flop and a smile widened her mouth. "Hey," she said softly as he walked in, and nodded slightly when he asked to help her.
She wasn't sure what had come over him. Sure, Jay was nice to her all the time, and teased her mercilessly the rest of it, he never offered to help her unpack. If anything, he had more to unpack than she did with all the magic supplies he hauled around. Still, it was nice to have him at such a close proximity. It made her all warm and content inside, even if it drove her crazy that they weren't more. Cat was getting to the point where she felt like she needed to be around him all the time.
It sucked.
"Thanks," she said, still smiling, as he started putting her books back on her shelf, which was more of a library. Her entire wall, the largest in the room, was covered in alphabetized novels. She had read and memorized ever page, but she couldn't bring herself to leave them sitting there, so she always reread them.
Cat shuffled barefoot to her closet and grabbed a handful of hangers before turning to Fayde and giving him a quizzical look. "I'm not saying I'm not thankful for what you're doing--I'm grateful you are--but ... why are you?" she asked, her head tilted slightly to the side.

Andrew had been walking down the hall to a vending machine to get a Coke when the girl, Emily, opened her door and stepped from her room. He paused and took her in, momentarily admiring her gentle features, before his face was contorted in a scowl. He had worked so hard to get where he was, working late nights to make his shows more unique and beautiful than anyone else's, and this girl fixed a generator even the smartest technicians on the team couldn't fix, and suddenly she was hanging out with the Favored and getting to meet with the Headmaster. Drew got she did something no one else did, but she should still have to work like everyone else did.
Still, just by the look on her face, how lonely and confused she was, he couldn't help feeling a little bad for her. "Hey, kid," he grunted gruffly at her, letting his scowl softened slightly. "You need to know the campus so you don't get lost and force someone to find your tiny butt."
He took her wrist in his big hand and pulled her along. He knew it was mean, but he was notorious at having no friends and no time to make them. Drew was good at what he did; he didn't need to be distracted, but something told him this girl would definitely be doing that.

"Look," Fayde began, interrupting her question. He finished neatly placing the books on her lower shelf before standing and taking a step towards her. He didn't want to seem too forward (or creepy, for that matter), but the thought of not being with Cat irked Fayde greatly. She was perfect. Smart, beautiful, funny, and that smile...HER smile. He wanted to be the one who made her smile. He hadn't realized it until Smoke said what she did that he even felt this way. But he did feel this way.
Before long the two performers were just inches apart. The walls, the bed, the bookshelf all crumbled out of existence. As hard as he tried, Fayde couldn't take his eyes from Cat's. He didn't want to. She was perfect. Her eyes were so beautiful. Unsure, Fayde brought his hand to her face and gently cupped her cheek. He had done this with many of the girls in the audience as well as school, but it never felt like this. Felt so right, so real. All of the other times was an act, but this was with Cat. With the girl he liked more than his card deck.
"I..." he said softly as he slowly got closer. He moved his hand from her cheek to her chin. As smoothly as he could in his flustered state, he lifted her head. "...really like you." He lowered his eyes as he dared to move even closer, so he was still looking into her eyes. She was so warm and small, fragile. "I really like you, Caitlyn," he breathed again. He, once again, moved closer. Their lips were only centimeters apart when a voice snapped him back to the real world.
"Hey, Cat," Smoke's voice came from right outside the door. "Have you seen my mini flamethro..." Smoke cut herself off when she approached the door. Stupid Smoke!

Emily stared at the kid as his gentle features turned into a scowl at the sight of her. Why did he hate her so much? What did she ever do to him? Her mind nearly burst of confusion when he grabbed her wrist and pulled her behind him. She fought the urge to wince in pain as he dragged her around the dorm building. Who was this kid anyway, and who gave him the right to pull her around like some nerveless baggage? "Um," she tried to say, which proved to be harder than she thought. "Wh-where are we going?"

Cat wasn't sure what was happening. For a moment she was trying to make conversation, as gathered as she could be around Jay, and then suddenly he was drawing closer to her, a glint in his eyes she had never seen before. It made her stomach knot and her arms feel like jelly.
When the words she had wanted to hear for so long left his mouth quietly, the hangers she had gripped tightly in her hands slipped from her fingers and fell to the floor. Did he really just say that? Did Jay ... really like her, or was this just another one of his jokes? But as he neared and the dark look in his eyes intensified, Cat wasn't even able to form a coherent thought, let alone worry about how real this moment was.
Suddenly he was in front of her, telling her he liked her, touching her face and looking at her in a way no one had ever looked at her before. His breath was warm on her face and his close proximity made her senses go wild, and, as his mouth moved closer to hers, her eyes closed and her head angled up.
Cat could almost feel his lips on hers. Her hands had moved up to take hold of his forearms, as if to support her; she felt like she would fall if she wasn't holding onto him.
The whole moment was perfect, but then she heard footsteps and Smoke's voice, and all of a sudden, it was over. The two were still very close when Smoke peered into Cat's room and discovered the two. Her question about her mini flamethrower was cut short and her eyes widened.
Cat fell back to her feet and hesitantly drew away from Fayde, eyes now open, cheeks beet red. She turned to her friend and shakily cleared her throat. "Uh," she said thickly, "you put it in Griz's bag..."

Andrew released Emily's wrist, turning to look at her over his shoulder. He could see her face still twisted in discomfort and mentally kicked himself for causing her pain. "I'm showing you the campus," he told her pointedly. "We'll start with the academic wing, where I'd imagine you'd spend most of your time." Though the comment was meant to come out snidely, Drew's tone sounded nonchalant, as if he wasn't burning with jealousy over her excelling as she was.

Fayde pulled away from Cat. Disappointment swelled in his mind. He was so close to doing what he had wanted to do for so long (even if he didn't realize he wanted to). Why did Smoke have to come and ruin this perfect moment?
"Woah, well..." Smoke stuttered. "Thanks, I'll go ask Griz. Sorry to interrupt..." was all she said before running towards Griz's room. Once she was gone, Jay sighed. He turned to Cat, who was redder than a tomato.
"So," he said, still unsure. "Maybe we could catch a movie sometime? Just the two of us?"

Was that jealousy in his voice? She couldn't tell. Why would he be jealous? What was there to be jealous about? She wasn't anything special. "Thank you," Emily began after moments of silence. "For showing me around." She smiled as sweetly as she could. Caroline would always teach her about being nice to those who aren't nice to you, and this kid wasn't exactly the nicest.

Cat watched as Smoke disappeared, and once she was gone, she turned to look at Fayde. The disappointment was evident in his gaze, but his hesitance surprised her the most. He had seemed so sure of himself before. This awkward side made Cat grin, even if she was embarrassed they had been caught almost kissing. It was cute.
At the mention of a movie, Cat brightened. "Yeah," she agreed, smiling, doing her best to eliminate the weird feeling that was seeping through her body that felt slightly like fear. "That would be great."
For a moment, she just stood there, staring up at him, completely captivated in him and what had just occurred. She wasn't sure what was to come of it, but she didn't care. That was the thing about her and her friends. They were reckless; they didn't worry about the future, and that's one of the things she loved about them.
"Okay, uhm... I'm gonna, you know..." Cat gestured to the hangers strewn about her feet. "Uh, clean these up."

Andrew stuffed his hands into his pockets and shrugged dismissively. "Yeah, welcome," he said before walking stiffly away from her and heading for the staircase that lead out of the huge dormitory and onto campus. As he trotted down the stairs, he wondered why he felt inclined to be rude to her. His nature was to be harsh and sarcastic, sure, but for some reason it didn't feel right to be mean to her.
Drew brushed this weird feeling aside and cast a look behind him to make sure she was following, before jumping down the last few steps and waiting for her.

"Here, let me help," Fayde offered. He quickly bent down, bumping heads with Cat in the process. "Sorry," he apologized awkwardly. He was losing his "cool" around Cat. This was either a really good sign or a really bad sign. He wasn't use to being awkward, to being shy, to not knowing what to say or how to react. He didn't like it. It wasn't him.
"So," Fayde began in a failed attempt to break the silence and regain his cool. "You free this afternoon?"

Emily followed the kid. Why was he being so mean? So distant? I need to go outside my comfort zone, she thought. Ask for his name. Just go for it! She couldn't do this. Nerves piled up inside her. She wasn't use to talking to people, or asking for their names (in English, that is).
"I'm Emily," she managed to say. It came out unsure and pathetic, but it was better than silence.

Cat flushed involuntarily as Jay bent down to help her gather the hangers. He probably didn't realize just how much this small act made her heart pound. Her chest ached; he was going to be the end of her, she could feel it.
When Fayde's head hit hers, Cat was jerked from her reverie and back into the real world, where already a headache was setting into her skull. Cat wasn't sure where his nonchalant demeanor had gone; maybe it had disappeared on the plane, while she had been gone, collecting Emily.
She frowned a little, but before she could open her mouth, he beat her to it. Was he actually asking her to hang out?
Alone?
With each other?
With no one else around?
Her heart leapt into her throat. "Uh ... yes, yes I think I am. I mean, we're gonna go partying tonight, but that's tonight ..." She straightened and looked over Jaystin's head. "So, yeah," she finally got out, smiling, "I am free."
Still, Cat needed to ask what had happened on the plane that had caused Jay to act so strangely. She paused for a while, gazing at him, before mustering up the courage to say anything. "What happened on the plane?" she asked. "You got all weird when I came back with Emily."

Andrew was mentally scolding himself when Emily spoke up, introducing herself. He stopped and turned, facing her fully. She was pretty short, only about five foot four, and very small and fragile-looking. He towered over her at six foot, and he had wide shoulders and dark eyes. He still had a gentle face, but Drew looked like his dad; the gentleness would go away.
"I'm Andrew," he said, giving her the best smile he could muster, which wasn't much at all.

(DUUUUUDE!!!! I think Vamp should actually die, so Glitz just gets messed up. That would be so freaking intense and definitely add to the story.)

Emily watched as the two bickered, unable to say anything. Griz moved between the two, the claimed the Headmaster wanted to see her. Her eyes widened. The headmaster? Once the words were out of his mouth, Brad took Emily's arm and towed her away from Drew. Once they were a good distance from the fiery preteen, Emily brought up the courage to say, "So, I'm going to meet the headmaster?"

Fayde looked at Cat, contemplating what to say. Should he tell her Smoke spilled something she shouldn't have? If he told her that, she would think of his romantic gestures as pity. That's how Cat thought. "Nothing important," he finally said. "So, see you at two?" he asked. He took a step forward, closing the distance between them, and brushed some stray hairs from her face. Fighting the urge to bring her closer, Fayde placed his lips gently on her forehead, then backed away and walked out the door.

Brad's muscles were bunched, as though they were trying to pull themselves into him, but gait stiff. Andrew rubbed him the wrong way; he was so arrogant and rude and treated everyone with disdain. So many times, Brad had tried to figure the kid out. There was something about him that could be good, if he just tried to unearth it, but whenever Brad saw it slowly inching its way out of the depths, Andrew would push it back down. Violently.
When Emily spoke, her voice was quiet, timid. She obviously had to muster up great amounts of confidence to say anything, and Brad could only think it was because of how awkward she was with people. She was too gentle for her own good, or Andrew. Brad would have to shape her up a little. If she was going to survive at the academy, Emily would need to learn to stand up for herself, not let anyone push her around.
"Yeah," Griz said, turning to look at her, his features softer than when he was getting up in Drew's face. "I don't know why though; he just told me to come get you."

Cat's hands went numb. The skin where his lips touched her forehead was on fire, and her belly was filled with liquid sunshine. She took several steps back and sunk onto her bed, staring at the door, in shock. What had just happened? Where had her composure gone? Cat was normally so collected, calmer, but whenever Jay was near she...just wasn't. How could she be? He did things to her she never would have thought possible.
"God, help me," she murmured, letting her head fall into her hands. She was trembling, but not from fear of what they were becoming; Cat didn't fear intimacy. Her body was shaking from the joy and pleasure of knowing Jay felt the same way she did. He had wanted to kiss her! He was about to, if not for Smoke walking in.
Silently, Cat was glad they hadn't kissed. She wasn't sure how she would take it. Before then, he hadn't spoken his feelings to her. Kissing so soon would send Cat into a mindset she wasn't sure she wanted to be in, one where all she could think of was Jay.
Jay, Jay, and only Jay.
Even though they didn't do a lot of studying, Cat still wanted to focus on what classes she did have to take. If Jay had kissed her, Cat wouldn't be caring about that. She would be wanting to be around him all the time, never leaving him alone, probably checking her phone constantly to see if he had texted her.
It would be bad.
Sighing, Cat sat up and grabbed her phone from her dresser and turned on some music, then went back to picking up the hangers and going through her suitcase for dirty clothes she needed to wash.
