【Pupukea, Hawaii (0-14) | Las Vegas, Nevada (14-18) | Miami, Florida (18-Current) 】
Bon to an immature eighteen year old, high school dropout, Brooks was born in a very unprepared household. His mother was teenage drug dealer who had been too busy fooling around and selling drugs to realize she would need protection from pregnancy. Brooks never knew why she decided to have him and keep him, but he's not really complaining about existing. The first few years of his life were spent trying not to die from his mother's neglect. As a baby and toddler, Brooks had to rely on the kindness and decency from drug users, drunk party goers, and strangers. Brooks doesn't know who his father is or if he'll ever know, only that he dropped his mom after he found out she sold drugs. When he was young, he used to imagine a perfect family for himself. He'd have awesome brothers and sisters, two loving parents, and a bunch of cousins, aunts, and uncles. When Brooks turned about seven, he realized the only person who will take care of him is himself. He taught himself how to take care of himself with the help of a few of his mom's buyers and hookups. Brooks was content with his life. He could do whatever he wanted as long as it didn't draw the eye of the police or school officials. If things ever got to crazy at home, he'd escape with his sketch pad and surf board, that he paid for himself from odd jobs around his neighborhood. The two things brought him peace and a sense of normalcy. He liked being 'one' with the water and could spend hours out there. It was a simple life, but Brooks was happy with it.

At twelve, Brook's mother was caught selling drugs to a policeman. They stormed her house, hoping to find more drugs to make her sentence longer and were surprised to find a young boy, cooking dinner for himself. Unfazed by their storming in, he simply asked if they were here for the drugs. Brooks lead them to his mother's stash before asking them to leave once they gathered everything. He was stunned to realize that he had to be taken away from his home. Brooks didn't care if his mother was in jail or not. She more of a roommate then a parent. Brooks was then placed into a foster home. All he brought with him were the few clothes he had, his surfboard, and sketchbook. He didn't like living in this new home due to the rules his foster parents put on him. The police were trying to find any family members of Brooks's, but he couldn't give them any leads. His mother never talked about his grandparents or if she had siblings. His foster parents weren't too fond of Brooks since he didn't listen and seemed unnerved by punishment. A couple months into Brooks's stay at this household, another child arrived. It was a three year old girl who's parents always sold and abused drugs, as well as her. One of the few times Brooks showed emotion was when he saw the bruises. His mother never laid a hand on him, but the idea of a parent hurting their child was appalling to him. He took the younger girl under his wing. Brooks would sing to her at night when she had nightmares or just to put her to sleep. The two would spend all their time together. Her parents never gave her a name so Brooks named her Daisy, knowing the flower meant 'new beginnings,' loyal love, and innocence. Brooks considers her his sister.

Upon turning fourteen, Brooks was hoping for a happy birthday with Daisy. He had the beach, her, and his sketchbook so he needed nothing else. Unfortunately, he received a gift he did not want. The police had found Brooks's extended family. Apparently, his mother had a younger brother who lived in Las Vegas with his boyfriend. The forced move made him angry. First, he would have to leave Daisy. The one person he ever cared about and could never see her again. Second, Las Vegas was land locked so he couldn't go to the beach. Brooks was torn away from the home by Social Services, leaving a crying Daisy as he was forcibly pulled from the home. When Brooks arrived in Las Vegas, he was surprised how normal and successful his uncle was. He was the head of P.R. at McCarran International Airport, the only airport out of Las Vegas. His boyfriend worked at home as a writer. Life was difficult among the three at first. His uncle and boyfriend wanted to settle down with a child, but found it difficult to adopt, especially since they weren't married. His uncle saw the surprise of knowing he had a nephew was blessing to the couple since they'd been looking for a youth to take care of. They were surprised how uncooperative and reluctant he was to settle down. He missed the ocean and Daisy terribly. After a year, he opened up to them about Daisy and his need for ocean. The two men worked their hardest to make Brooks happy in their home. They allowed him to drive to California on the weekends to surf, but weren't sure how to get Daisy back to him. Thanks to a friend of his boyfriend, Tyler was able to find the foster home Daisy lived at. Tyler had a great lawyer on hand so they fought the system to be able to allow Daisy into their care. Brooks can't remember a happier time in his life. She lived with them now and it was perfect family he always wanted.

While his uncle stressed the importance of education, Brooks wasn't too concerned with college. He applied to school near great surf sports and had a Marine Biology Program, as well as Architecture. California was closer, but Fulton was his uncle's alma mater. He decided on Fulton since a coin flip chose it. A fraternity was definitely not something he thought he would join. His uncle didn't care much for Greek life so when he found out Brooks rushed he was surprised, but accepting, especially that he was accepted into Beta, a very picky fraternity. Once again, luck chose for him. We'll see if his luck runs out.

Quirks//Habits//Oddities:
| Believes in Luck | Always wears a Seashell necklace | Runs fingers through hair when he's flirting | bounces his leg when he's trying to think | can't snap | doodles on his homework | snores | speaks the language of flowers | can never remember dates | puts sticky notes all over his room | pretends to be drumming to the beat of whatever music is playing | always smells musky | can't sit in one place for too long | talented singer, but hates singing in front of people |

Good personality traits:
| Nonchalant | Funny | Thick-Skinned | Fearless | Affectionate |

Bad personality traits:
| Secretive | Stubborn | Pacifist | Indecisive | Forgetful |

Personality:
While Brooks is definitely a Beta, he doesn't have the attitude of one. His calm and collect appearance is eye catching among the bigger, snobbier personalities in the group. The lack of worry on his youthful face is very appealing to gaze on. While being calm, he always knows when to crack a joke or do something silly to entertain his friends. Brooks simply doesn't care what others think of his current self. He can take their criticism and shrug it off no big deal. However, he still does not like being told what to do. His aura of calmness hides his more closed off part of himself. Brooks can appear as an open book, but there are plenty of secrets inside the surfer. He isn't quick to tell anyone about his past or what his current thoughts on things are. He prefers the simplicity of not responding.

Like everyone, Brooks has his faults. He is an indecisive person. The idea of making decisions big or small can be a lot to put on him. A natural 'live in the moment' person, the idea of making long term decision is concerning for him. He's more likely to ignore the problem until it either solves itself, disappears, or blows up in his face. One usually happens and it tends to be the latter. Forgetfulness also plays a role. If you need something remembered, it would be better to ask an amnesiac for help than Brooks. The boy can never remember important dates, events, or the time. He tries his best, but it's easier to constantly remind him. His pacifism can be thought to be a positive thing, but Brooks has been described as a 'wimp' due to him not wanting a fight. He's the first to break up a physical argument and first to back out of a fight he's involved in. Again, he doesn't care. Violence is never the answer for him.

Romance is a sticky situation for the sophomore Beta. It is said that Brooks is affectionate with everyone. He flirts, but isn't a massive one like some of the Sigmas. He prefers to have small talk before he decides if she, or he, is someone he wants to be with. Public displays of affection are of no concern to Brooks. He doesn't worry about others' opinion of who he's dating or hooking up with. Brooks is the kind of man who wouldn't fear saying exactly his thoughts towards his companion. However, due to his indecisiveness, choosing the right opportunity takes a while. He enjoys putting his hands on his partners. Cuddling after sex, gentle caresses, and couple like stuff are amazing for him, but he doesn't like having serious relationships. It can be difficult having a friends with benefits situation when he wants to have relationship like fun with his hookups.

Greatest joys in life:
The Ocean: It's been the one consistent thing in his life. The feeling of being in the water is a feeling beyond euphoric. Surfing: It's his favorite hobby. He would go surfing forever if possible. Ice Cream: Nothing's better than ice cream on a hot Miami day. His Family: His uncle, his uncle's boyfriend, and Lydia are one of the few things he appreciates in his life. His Penguin Pillow Pet: Brooks hates the cold, but he adores his Penguin Pillow Pet is Uncle got him when he first moved in. Singing: While surfing is number one, singing just relaxes him.

Greatest fears:
Pollution: Other people don't respect the environment and Brooks worries it will be seriously damaged. His Background: Brooks knows his background isn't exactly positive so he isn't eager for his fraternity brothers or anyone else to find out, especially since the Betas are so picky about their members. He fears they may kick him out. Losing Daisy: He can't lose her again. Violence: While Brooks can defend himself, he's seen violence from his life with his mother and Daisy. He doesn't want to hurt anybody. Commitment: The boy's never had to commit to a person or career before. He's scared of how that'll affect his normally carefree life. Singing in Public: While he appears aloof and uncaring of what people think of him, singing in front of others terrifies him. He likes to have it as a relaxer and would rather not have something people can tell him to do better.

Life philosophy:
"Things that are done, it is needless to speak about. Things that are past, it is needless to blame." ~ Confucius

Thoughts on Greek Life:
"I didn't really realize I was rushing a fraternity till bid night. I just showed up and I got a few bids. I wasn't smart enough for the Kappas so it basically Sigma or Beta. I flipped a coin and it landed on tails which was Beta so I'm a Beta. I like it so far. The guys are cool and our sister house is awesome, but I don't like the whole 'I can't talk to you, because we're in different houses' thing. It's lame. As well as the 'hiding sexuality thing,' I don't make a big deal about it, but if someone wants to know I'll tell them."

Brooks didn't exactly rush on purpose. His roommate dragged him to a rush with him and Brooks thought it was just some party thing. On bid night, his roommate got no bids, but Brooks ended up with a choice between Beta and Sigma. A coin chose Beta so that's where he went. Beta has been great since he gets invited to all the parties and all the girls are interested in him. However, he didn't understand why the other fraternities and sororities don't like him. He tries to be cool with all of them, earning some disapproval from his fraternity brothers, but he does his own thing. He thinks the party houses are awesome and the smart are sweet and helpful. As for his sexuality, Brooks doesn't care if people know he's with or not. Beta can deal with that if they want.

Plans for after college:
"I've always loved the ocean so working in Marine Biology will be doing what I love, but I also like drawing and designing buildings. I'm still a sophomore so I have some more time to decide."

Brooks is struggling to decide whether he wants to work in Marine Biology or be an Architect. He likes the idea of both careers, but double majoring in them will be an extreme, and almost impossible, course load. His advisor told him he needs to make a decision before he reaches junior year. He likes the idea of running his own surf shop when he gets more established in whatever career he chooses.

Build:
Brooks is proud of his muscular body from years of surfing. He has clear muscle in his arms, legs, and abdomen

Height & Weight:
5'11 ft. & 165 lbs.

Hair Color:
Brooks has always had a big of mass of wavy curls hair on his head. The roots of his hair is a dark brown, but it gets lighter the further you get down the strand. His hair is natural, gaining his blonder locks from so much time in the sun. He typically leaves his curls down in a sexy 'just had sex' kind of way. If he is working, working out, or gets tired of his curls in his face, Brooks will put his hair into a man-burn. He might use a headband occasionally, but prefers the bun. He absolutely hates ponytails or braids in his hair.

Eye Color:
Pear Green

Distinguishing Marks:
Style:
Brooks embodies the surfer look in every way, especially in his clothing. He always dresses like he'll be going to beach or pool at any moment. His slightly dressier version of himself is a more nautical, preppy style. Typically, you'll find Brooks in flip flops or sandals. He likes easy to slip on and off school. Cargo shorts and loose pants are common as well. Brooks prefers simple T-Shirts and tank tops for shirts. He will always be found wearing a shell necklace he made.

Being the President meant having certain privileges versus the underclassmen. For starters, having a room all to yourself and being able to move in before everyone else. She decorated to the best of her ability and hoped the other girls liked it too. Normally, rooming by herself was a big no-no, but it felt right now. Scarlett would still keep her door open though. An open door policy is essential for being a good President.

Scarlett was currently doing some yoga in her room. She was finishing placing the last of her textbooks on her shelf when the need to practice caught her. Yoga has always been relaxing and she needed to be at peace currently. It was her last year. She'll be out of college and into medical school. Her dreams were getting closer and closer to her, but she felt sad. Theta Chi has meant so much to her and she can't imagine leaving any of these lovely girls behind. Her mother and father would be happy to see her graduate with a perfect GPA and honors. Her stepfather would be happy as well and her step siblings would be happy, but not quite understand what was happening. It was going to be a bittersweet event, but one to remember.

Scarlett heard chatter downstairs and hurried down. She was so caught up in yoga she lost track of time! The new Thetas would be moving in and she wasn't there to greet them. So far being President was going swimmingly. The first two people she recognized was Katiana and Annabelle. Annabelle held a special place in her heart since she was her little, but Katiana was just as precious. "Girls!" She ran over and gave them each a quick hug, Annabelle's with a squeeze. "How was your summer? Can I help you with anything?" She caught that Annabelle was going to go help her father and followed her. She quickly took the bag from Annabelle's hand with a smile that said 'let me do this.' With a big, friendly smile, she stuck out her hand to Mr. Everett, "Hello, Mr. Everett. I'm Annabelle's big sister, Scarlett. It's nice to finally meet you!"

The lukewarm water running down Brook's body felt amazing. His family and him had just spent the last two hours moving in and it was finally over. The manly labor and bossiness from Daisy did not make it easy. Brooks had done surfing earlier that morning and it was an amazing way to start out the year. The waves were perfect, the beach wasn't too crowded, and the sun was shining without being overwhelmingly hot. It felt almost as amazing as this shower does.

After finishing drying off, Brooks returned to his room to change when his phone rang. Caller I.D. said Uncle Tyler. Although the man has been a father figure, Brooks never wanted to call him Dad or Father. It felt wrong to fall him that. Brooks shrugged off the thought and answered the phone.

"Are you having a party already?" A young voice asked on the phone. Brook smiled, knowing it was his sister Daisy.

"You bet I am. It's gonna be amazing and you're not invited."

"You big meanie!"

Playful banter between the two of them was common. A few years ago, Brooks would've thought he'd never have this. Daisy was still in foster care and Brooks was stuck landlocked, away from her. As much as he loved his uncle and his partner, Daisy is Brooks's world. He'd do anything for her and being so far apart kills him. Sure, they have FaceTime and phone calls, but that's not the same as having them physically in front of you. Their conversation continued for a while until Uncle Tyler said they were about to enter a dead zone. The two siblings said good bye before hanging up. Feeling bored, Brooks took out his phone to text a few people.

To : Mama Kori <3 ( Korinna )
Uhhhh, I'll buy you coffee and explain it to you. Long story. Not really. I got in trouble for getting in a fight at the supermarket. Dude was asking for it though, he kept snickering at me. So I had to. Sowwwiie.

Looking away his phone to receive C.J's hug he laughed. About to answer and being pushed aside, he would make a fake noise of jealousy and look for his big, Harry. Now, they hadn't been very close over his freshman year. But they got better, and Arden accepted Harry as his big, as long as coffee was provided by the man. His eyes a shade of blue currently, he would smile towards his big.

"Ehh, truth be told, I missed you guys. AND WAIT! We're getting a new coffee maker!? YES. I LOOOOOOOOOVE YOU HARRRRRRRRRRY," drawing out the r in Harry's name, yell from the kitchen in glee. Now, anyone in the house knew, of Arden's very very unhealthy relationship with coffee. It seemed to be all he drank, and sometimes he'd be a little wired. Making a small groaning sound, he would unenthusiastically accept his room being across from Harry's. In truth it made him feel safer, but....he couldn't let them know that. "I vote for pizza, it's a fundamental and all-around healthy food item. Introducing all the basic food groups, in one convenient dish.

He also loved greasy food. Moving to the entrance area, and taking his few bags to his room he collapsed on his bed. Sending a few quick text messages to a few people he hadn't gotten a chance to earlier.

To : Surfer Boy ( Brooks )
Hey, you on campus? How was your summer broski.

Okay. That was weird, ignore that please <3

After what felt like hours of her brother's concerned ranting down the phone, she was finally free. 'Take care, don't flirt with boys, don't drink too much.' Yeah, like I'd listen to that. Glancing at that few messages, she'd be sure to leave the messages a while before responding. It was part of her princess attitude charm. With a light hum, there was however one person she definitely did want to talk to.

To: Angel Face/Katrina

You here yet? My shoes are already killing me

And they were. They clicked with each step, almost covering the noisy sound of the wheels bumping again the crooked stone. She seemed to be confident enough, shoving through people without much of a thought. Eliza didn't really care who she moved, they should have gotten out of her way in the first place. Surprisingly enough, the new Alpha hadn't brought too many clothes with her. There was only two suitcases, a backpack and a handbag. Not a lot at all. She reached one of the benches, a simple glare clearing the few freshmen that lingered around it. Hauling her bags next to her, making sure she took up the whole bench, she took out her phone once again, simply debating whether she should reply yet or not.

From: Princey/Brooks

Need any help with your many bags, Princess?

From: Greedy Guts/Jax

Where is my favourite baker? I expect fresh cookies as payment for me having to text first. How's your summer been?

To: Princey/Brooks

Can't tell if you're joking, but if you could come help me I'd be so grateful. I might even be nice.

To:Greedy Guts/Jax

I had to go on business trips with dad, good lord.
And you can make your own cookies, King. You're old enough.

She wouldn't usual hang tight where she was, but she genuinely wanted to know if Brooks would come to her aid. She very briefly checked her hair, running her fingers through the mass of brown locks. It went in well today, and she was rather proud of herself. Though, it didn't take long for her to become bored of waiting of him. Honestly, for someone so involved in business, Eliza sure lacked the gift of patients. Twiddling with her a stray strand, her eyes suddenly lit up.

To: Local Asshole/River

You here yet? How was your summer?

Nodding, satisfied, she hummed under her breath. Gosh, her bags were heavy. This is light luggage too, dreading to think how much she would have carried all the stuff she wanted to bring.

Alea chuckled her friend’s excitement, welcoming another hug from her before pulling back and watching her put on her new accessories. Alea was just going to drop the whole plantain thing, there was no changing Deanna’s mind about that; she’ll just have to watch over her food like a hawk and plan to eat those as soon as possible. She could eat a couple for breakfast; if she remembers to eat breakfast, or this conversation at all.

β€œYou look amazing Dee,” She grinned bouncing on the balls of her feet now,” I thought they’d be great for your DJ gigs, though I doubt you can see through them so forget that idea.” She chuckled to herself as she helped her with tying the bracelet on. β€œWe had a lot of supplies left over from the weddings and stuff so I made quite a few things for everyone. I’m glad you like it so much,” Alea smiled once more, reflecting Deanna’s own genuine smile. Her being happy made her twice as, as with any of her friends.

Speaking of them, her phone began to chime once more, breaking whatever heartfelt moment they were having and stealing away Alea’s attention. She picked it up to see Kori was on her way back, Khari replied, and Brooks was on campus. β€œKori’s coming back and Khari wants all of us over, the idiot,” she chuckled shaking her head as she relayed the replies the two of them got in their shared group messages before replying to Brooks as well.

TO: Flirty Idiot #1/ Khari
I’m sure you can. ;)

TO: Sister Mother/ Kori
Something greasy and American. I haven’t had anything like that all summer.
I’ll give you your stuff when you come in.

TO: Siren/ Brooks
Yeah, got here a few hours ago.
I have something for you from Jamaica, though you’ll need to come down here soon so you can enjoy it.
It’ll die soon, but I got it right before I headed to the airport so we got maybe 9 or 10 hours?

Can't pussyfoot my way out of this now. She sighed, having quickly sent and put away her phone before she could question all of her life choices with what she sent Brooks, instead choosing to focus back on Deanna.

He only arched his brow towards Jax, watching him sheepishly apologize with a deadpan expression,” Oh how you flatter me, but my summer wasn’t all that exciting; quite the opposite actually. It was torturously boring. The longest 2 months of my existence.” Despite his dramatic words his face barely changed, resting in that expressionless mask he’s known for as he watches Jax from the corner of his eye. He didn’t reply at the suggestion of moving, only looking back down to his phone and was about to go back to reading, if Jax didn’t practically drag him out of his seat.

So with a sigh, Cassius gently moved his snakes back into the small containers on the coffee table before following him into the kitchen, eyes still glued to the words on his phone while the three shared their pleasantries only speaking up at the mention of his name,” I’m already planning on running away, don’t give me more incentives old man.” That’s about as close as Cassius get to playing up this strange family roleplay, those three insist on playing.

The sound of the most bitter of the Sigmas entering the house finally had Cassius give up trying to read through his story with a huff of frustration as the most excitable came in right behind making a ruckus. β€œI just got a headache,” was all he muttered in reply as River made a beeline straight to the fridge, the smallest trace of disdain in his voice as he watched him before a punch to the shoulder brought him out of it,” It’s almost like I never left England.”

He pushed his glasses back up his nose and stood up straight once more,” Shall I start us off, then? My summer was boring as all hell, went back to Rye, bought snakes in London. Nothing else out of the ordinary happened. It’s exactly what you would expect to happen.” He sped through what happened in the past few months, clipping his words to save time and move on to someone else before leaning back on the wall. β€œNext.”

The good ol' Beta residence. Somehow it looked much bigger this time around. Maddox sat in the driver's seat of his parked car, one hand wrapped around the steering wheel while his free hand reached for the cell phone propped inside the cup holder. It was barely the first day back and he already felt overwhelmed, though part of that could have a lot to do with his not-so-relaxing summer. Between his job, a new internship and avoiding his family (especially his father) at all costs, he didn't exactly have the time to take a summer for what it should have been. And going by all the formulated plans he had in mind for the upcoming school year, it was going to be anything but relaxing and uneventful.

The notification light continued to flash on the upper left hand corner of his phone until he opened and read the messages. Abby would be waiting for him and whichever one of the boys volunteered to go help her with her luggage, so he decided to put off replying to her, pop in to give the guys a quick hello and a welcome to the new additions, and then take off to the Alpha residence. He decided to let Katrina know in case she needed the help as well. A good Beta isn't anything if he isn't a proper gentleman.

To: Miss Kitten
MSG: I hate that I love you, really :P
MSG: If I'm nice and help you move in will you stop sending me these weird songs?

Maddox couldn't help but smile to himself, thinking of all the arguments he and Katrina have had, always over the same thing. He always knew she was right. He needed, or rather still needs to, man up and confront who he is without giving two shits about what others think. Not that he'll be telling her that anytime soon, otherwise the girl will never shut up about it. After skimming over Brooks' message, finding it pointless to reply when he could just answer that in person, Maddox typed out a quick reply to Cornelious. He may not admit it out loud, but he missed the Kappa's company.

To: Corny
MSG: Well, well, Mr. Johnson, if I didn't know any better I'd say ur flirting ;)
MSG: Rain check? I got some business to take care of.

Now there was just one more message left to send. Something he'd thought over a hundred and one times and, after a bloody mental battle and some minor self-therapy, decided he needed to do. His thumb hovered over the name for
a couple of seconds, somewhat thankful that he hadn't deleted the number after all, before tapping on it. Both thumbs picked at the screen with rapid movements, typing out the full message and hitting the send all in one swift move.

To: Arden
MSG: The Roast, 8 o' clock? Just wanna have a talk.

His dark eyes stared at the phone screen for a couple more seconds and then it was slipped into his jacket pocket before regret, or any other bad ideas, made their way into his mind. Leaving everything but his usual charmind smile behind, the Beta quickly stepped out of his car and made his grand entrance through the Beta residence doors. "Home, sweet, home!"

Annabelle's dad looked sligtly confused by Scarlett's introduction. "It's like the buddy system in high school. We just call them sisters."

The confusion on her dad's face cleared and he shook Scarlett's hand. "Nice to meet you too Scarlett.

Annabelle took another bag from her dad. She knew better than to try and take anything back from Scarlett. It wasn't that Scarlett was vicious or controlling, or anything like that, she was just stubbornly helpful. Any protests that they could manage without her would fall on deaf ears. Scarlett had decided that she was going to help and that was what was going to happen. She grabbed another bag from the doorway. "Upstairs then?"

Annabelle bounded up the stairs and walked along the hallway until she found her room. A brief thrill ran through her when she saw she was rooming with Katiana. She dropped her backpack on the unmade bed and helped get the rest of her cases in her room. "I'll have to head off now sweetie, work needs me tomorrow."

Annabelle nodded. "Ok, sure. Don't worry about it." She wrapped her arms around him and pecked his cheek. "Thanks for driving me over."

Her dad gave her a brief squeeze before he pulled away. "Take care. and if you ever need anything, just call."

Annabelle smiled. "I think between Scarlett and Nick, I'll be fine, but I'll call when I get homesick." She looked over at Scarlett. "She's a fine upstanding member of the community. She's studying to be a doctor. I'm in very good hands," she said as she led her dad back downstairs. She could feel her phone buzzing in her pocket. She wasn't usually this popular. Her dad opened the door to the car and gave her one last peck on the cheek.

"Take care sweetie."

Annabelle rolled her eyes playfully. "I will. Drive safe." She waved him off and watched the car pull away until he turned the corner off the street. It was a bittersweet feeling watching him go and she missed him the moment his car was out of sight. She took her phone from her pocket and opened her messages. Her chest tightened for a split second when she saw the first message was from Brooks. She liked Brooks, of that she was sure. What she wasn't sure about was exactly what these feelings were. They had been friends since their freshman year and she had missed him. Being around Brooks was as easy as breathing.

To: Ocean Boy/Brooks
I'd definitely rather be drawing than unpacking. See you later?

And then there was Khari. How the hell had she gotten into this? She wasn't expecting to like anyone, at all, nevermind a senior. He was cute, really cute, and Annabelle knew she got hideously flustered when he was around.

To: Ari
Define fun. I visited some art galleries on my own. Such a rock&roll lifestyle, I know. How was your summer?

Annabelle pocketed her phone and headed back inside. She sat down on the couch next to Kat and took her plate. Annabelle propped her head on Kat's shoulder. "So, how was your summer?"

Helping her little move in reminded Scarlett off her first move-in day. It could be described as tense at first, but became better later on. Her father canceled a week of his English classes in Italy just to help her move in. It was also the first time he would meet Scarlett's stepfather. The twins were left with a babysitter so it Scarlett's mother, her father, her stepfather, and her. The first meeting was very tense since her biological father and stepfather were sizing each other up. Mom was very neutral about her one night stand/father of her child. Jeffrey, her stepfather, was a traditional man so it upset him that Scarlett's birth father left the two of them and didn't take full responsibility. Her biological father was used to being the only man in her life, so that made him feel threatened. A competition began between the two of them. Scarlett and her mom didn't understand, must be a man thing. The two men would try to carry the most or argue over who would set up the lights or hang pictures. The whole thing was hilarious and it let Scarlett and her mom do some last minute shopping. They came back and everything was set up and two were laughing over something, and drinking beer. Scarlett doesn't know where they got the beer from, but the two men were best friends and her room was set up. It was a fond memory.

It was getting later in the day and many of the other girls made already moved in. Scarlett spied into the living room to see Annabelle and Katiana talking and snacking on the treats some of the upperclassmen got for the new residents. The older Thetas always try to do something nice for the freshman and sophomores. Dinner was coming up to and Scarlett was in charge of that. Pizza was perfect good her, but maybe they should do something a little nicer. A nearby Chinese restaurant gave special discounts to Thetas, because the owner used to be a Theta and Scarlett was known to come by at two in the morning for fried rice. Annabelle would love it since Chinese is a favorite. Katiana might want something else though. There's an iHop nearby, which is one of Katiana's favorite. "Hey girls! Do we want to order in from Mr. Chen's or go to iHop for dinner? We're not going immediately. I just wanted you all to think on it! If we order in, I think Kappa is doing is doing the same, so maybe a little get together with our sibling house!" Scarlett still needed to call in at home, Mom's orders. Plus, plenty of new texts needed to be answered and she needed to run her idea by Harry!

To: Second Best Doctor / Harry
Is the doctor in? ;P
Did your house plan on eating in tonight? Theta might be doing the same so would you like to have a little get with your favorite sorority? I'll buy dessert!

Brooks couldn't help pacing as he wondered throughout the Beta house. He said hi and had a few conversations with some of the nicer guys, but it was only to be polite. Brooks knew he wasn't very popoular among the other brothers in the house. Most of them wouldn't give him a second glances if he hadn't been accepted. He wasn't pedigree like some of them or a legacy. He's heard stories that some of his Beta 'brothers' have been spreading behind his back. They say that not only is B.S. is his initials, but it's also the reason he was chosen for Beta. Rumors say that he was a charity case, accepted only to make the fraternity look better. Everyone knows he's adopted by his Uncle and his boyfriend, but Brooks said it was because his parents passed away when he was young. He'd rather be known as an orphan instead of a 'crack kid' like in elementary school. Hopefully, his lie won't come to the light. The Betas already think he's lower in status so that would be putting his at literal bottom of the totem pole. He knows he is only higher, because his Big is the President. Brooks still didn't understand, but luck chose him for some reason, only the coming year will tell.

"Home, sweet, home!" A familiar voice called out. Brooks was quick to hurry to the entrance. He knew that voice anywhere. It was the voice of someone he considered a friend. Maddox was one of the few great people in Beta. He didn't care about who Brooks was attracted too, though he would voice his opinion regardless. It was nice to have a friend in the house who was lax about his sexuality since all the others acted scandalized by his interested in the opposite gender.

"I'm glad you're here. No one interesting or nice is here." Brooks didn't care if the other Betas heard him. He knew what they said behind his back. "Want to do anything? I told Eliza I would help her unpack and I haven't seen Abigail yet so could we head over to Alpha?" Brooks desperately wanted to get out of the house. He needed cool people to be around. Speaking of cool people, he felt his phone vibrated.

From: Arden The Awesome
Hey, you on campus? How was your summer broski.
Okay. That was weird, ignore that please <3

To: Broski/Arden
It's now your new name on my phone so I guess we're both weird!
Summer was great! Although, my surf spot in Cali is now private. I learned that the hard way. Handcuffs are not fun, my friend. I'll give you more details later. I told Eliza I would help her move in. :(

From: Princess/Eliza
Can't tell if you're joking, but if you could come help me I'd be so grateful. I might even be nice.

To: Princess/Eliza
NICE! I've always wanted to see that. I'll be there soon. Maddox might be coming too.

From: Music Maker / Alea
Yeah, got here a few hours ago.
I have something for you from Jamaica, though you’ll need to come down here soon so you can enjoy it.
It’ll die soon, but I got it right before I headed to the airport so we got maybe 9 or 10 hours?

To: Music Maker / Alea
A gift for me? Awesome! I gotta help some of the Alphas move in, but I'll hurry.

From: Picasso/Annabelle
I'd definitely rather be drawing than unpacking. See you later?

To: Picasso/Annabelle
Sweetness! I did some sketches that I wanted to show you.

SATURDAY AUGUST 26TH || BACK-TO-SCHOOL BONFIRE || 9:15 PM
The significance of the Fulton University Back-to-School bonfire was that it was originally meant for one to cast into the flames the troubles of the year before; whatever it was that one felt was holding them back, whether it be a relationship they couldn't let go of on their own or anxieties that crippled them academically when all one needed to do was have faith, it needed to be thrown into flames. It was supposed to bring relief and that relief was found in throwing away the jacket an ex gave you or even a bracelet from a friendship you thought would never end. Don't let the alcohol and tomfoolery fool you. It was supposed to mean something and to some, it still does.

Nevertheless, each year the bonfire is hosted at the estate of an undisclosed sponsor - some believe it is an alumna, but until proven otherwise, take advantage of being in a mansion that most won't ever actually afford, #sorrynotsorry - where the beach property is mostly used for celebrations. Students also like to occupy the spacious home as there is a DJ inside, as well as inside, and food. Most have already arrived at this annual festive event filled with drunken hook-ups, wild dancing, tricks and the like while others are still on the way. At the end of the day, though, it's very rare that a night like this doesn't end in a fight or two, especially with the Greek organizations in attendance...

Spending the rest of the evening in his room, silently freaking over the message he received from Maddox, the male decided to play guitar. Eventually posting a cover of Collide by Howie Day on Youtube. Yep, great way to help your feelings.

----------

Arden didn't really sleep. He was known to be a night owl, but sleeping was a thing he rarely did since the middle of summer. He spent the entirety of the night trying to write chords for a project he was working on, but it didn't really work out for him being sleep deprived. He had noticed the dark circle under his eyes, and shrugged, getting dressed into his outfit for the bonfire. He would wave to the few awake Kappas, and visit the Roast as soon as it opened.

After getting coffee, he basically spent the entirety of the day at the radio station covering someone's shift. Getting off around 6'oclock, heading to the roast, he'd send a few texts out towards his friends and a certain someone.

To: Mama Kori, Princely Charming, Surferboy
MSG:So, I'm seeing you at the bonfire right? You know my ass needs social accompaniment.

He would send these texts individually, basically conveying the same messages. His dark blue eyes would look in his messgaes, noticing Maddox hadn't responded. Typical honestly. The male would type a few versions of the messages he wished to say, but decided on a different approachment.

To: Guy I Fell For / Hate
MSG:We can talk at the bonfire, if you want that is, we don't even have to be seen by your Beta buddies.

With that, he would simply wait at the Roast for his probably third cup of coffee in that day.

It'd been a hell of a first day back. Maddox had done quite a bit, but still somehow didn't get half of the things he needed to done. He spent the majority of the afternoon helping Abby and some of the other Alpha girls move in with the help of some of the Betas. Of course, most of the boys chose to stay and have a bit of fun. Maddox was not the exception, though he decided to stay for entirely different reasons. It had been an entire summer without seeing Abigail or Katrina, two of the few that knew him better than he knew himself. Time flew by, and before he knew it, it was time to hit the mattress.

The next day was spent working on different projects for his internship. He glanced at his phone every now and then, not having forgotten about the texts he had sent out the day before. So much for being a better human. Not that he had deliberately ignored Arden, like he had actually done many times before. This time around he really and truly had just forgotten. He glanced at the read message, and made a mental note to get to it later. First and foremost was his job.

By 6:30, Maddox had already made it back to the Beta house, feeling just a tad bit smug about how successful his projects had been. New and recharged, ready to hit the bonfire. It took him less than thirty minutes to get himself dressed, pressed and ready to impress before he was out and knocking on the rest of the boys' doors. His first stop was a certain sophomore's room, guessing that he would take the longest to get ready. Before reaching the door, though, he decided to check his phone, noticing Arden's message for the first time that day. His dark eyes gawked at the screen for a couple of seconds before letting out an exasperated sigh.

To: Arden
MSG: Done. I'll keep a lookout for a pair of skinny jeans and a beanie.

As much as Maddox ad changed over one summer, or so he liked to believe, Arden hadn't changed one bit. Finding him in the crowd of university students wouldn't be a hard task. Not to mention that, as much as Maddox liked to pretend he didn't care about those he slept with, he did. Not all, but some. And he remmbered every detail about those that he did actually care about. Sliding the phone back into his pocket, he walked up to Brooks' door, leaning up against the door frame as he peered inside. "Well look at you, sexy Betsy." he teased, a playful smirk making its way onto his lips.

Brooks felt happy with how he spent the rest of his move in day. Helping the girls at Alpha was better than spending any more time at Beta. Some of the girls didn't understand why he was a Beta too so it wasn't too different, but Abigail and Eliza made up for it. Katrina was there too, but Brooks and her never got along. There wasn't any animosity between them; they were just very different people. The evening was fun and it was sad to see it end.

Brooks spent most of the next running errands, checking in with his off campus job, and, of course, surfing. The last two were basically the same thing since he had a lesson at eleven. A thirteen year old girl who didn't seem all that interested until she found she couldn't stand on her board in the water. She became determined and by the end of the lesson, she could stay on it for the whole ride. It was moments like these that made Brooks happy with his career choice. He gets paid to do what he loves and teach people the wonderfulness that is surfing. It bummed Brooks out when he thought about giving all this up. He'd still be able to surf, but not as much once he graduated. Architecture or Marine Biology? The same choice he should've made last year. Both careers would be fun and exciting, but choosing was not what Brooks wanted. It wasn't like double majoring was impossible, but it would take up a lot of time. He sighed as he walked into the Beta house. "Why can't I make good decisions?"

After a hot shower, Brooks put on a pair of swim trunks for tonight's event. The location was sweet since it was right on the water, and had a pool. Brooks would be in one or the other before the night ended so it was best to be prepared. He was still debating on what shirt when someone spoke. Brooks jumped, not expecting it. "Well look at you, sexy Betsy." Brooks rolled his eyes before turning to his favorite Beta. Maddox was always a flirt and while Brooks was cool with it, he didn't fall for his charms. Brooks followed one simple rule with his fraternity brothers, 'don't bang your brothers.' It sounded like a disaster waiting to happen so he avoided it. "I swear your mission in life is to see me naked." Brooks teased. He decided on a simple, black tank and some flip flops to complete his look. Brooks wasn't trying to impress anyone so his typical surf boy look should be fine. Speaking of impressing people, Brooks returned and sent some texts before Maddox and him headed out.

To: Broski/Arden
I've got your back, broski! Try not to get super wasted? Don't need a repeat of freshman year :)

To: Music Maker / Alea
See ya at the bonfire? I need my favorite Zeta!

To: Picasso/Annabelle
I'll see you at the bonfire? Us artists have to stick together!

To: Princess/Eliza
Care to let me escort you to the royal bonfire, princess?

With his messages sent, Brooks returned his attention to Maddox. "Did you want to carpool with the Alpha girls or are we all just going to meet up?" Brooks leaned against his dresser, waiting for the older Beta.

Annabelle stared at the clock on her bedside table, not quite registering what the numbers were telling her. It was afternoon...maybe? Close to the afternoon. She rolled over and checked her phone. 14:28 was the time the clock was telling her. That was way into the afternoon. Annabelle sighed and fell back into her pillow. In hindsight, staying up way into the small hours with Kat just talking, and drinking a lot of tea, wasn't their smartest move. Fun, but not smart. At least classes haven't started yet.

Annabelle swung her legs over the side of the bed and slowly sat up. The afternoon light filtered in through a gap in the curtains. Annabelle saw her phone was blank and tucked it back under her pillow and wiped the sleep from her eyes. She stretched out and grabbed her towel and shampoo and headed to the shower room. Annabelle sighed as the hot water hit her shoulders, easing the stiffness that had come from the car journey yesterday. She lost track of how much time she had spent in the shower, but she didn't emerge until she smelled of oranges and grapefruit.

With a few hours to kill, Annabelle propped a small canvas up in the corner of the room. Annabelle looked out of her window. The sky was blue and clear, and cold. Blue and purple were squeezed onto a palette and began splashing colour onto the canvas. Great bold spirals and swipes of colour adorned the canvas. When the canvas was covered, she stood back and picked up a new paintbrush and went back in, building a picture that she could see in her mind.

She sighed and dropped her paintbrush back into the beaker. Her phone buzzed behind her and she picked her phone up.

From: Ocean Boy
I'll see you at the bonfire? Us artists have to stick together!

To: Ocean Boy
Like I would dare miss you.

There was a knock at the door and Annabelle looked over her shoulder as Scarlett came in. Annabelle was pretty sure that she had paint smears on her face and hands, it usually happened. "Hey girls! Do you need any help getting ready for tonight? Or maybe a ride?"

"I dunno, I probably need to wash up again. A ride would probably be good."

Her phone buzzed again. It was a text from Khari.

From: Khari
Sucks we didn't get to catch up last night. Hang @ the bonfire?

I'll see you there

The rest of the night was a blur honestly. She remembered Kori coming home and eating a lot of greasy food, everyone sharing their stories about the summer and Alea giving the rest of her sisters their gifts she brought back with her. What she doesn't remember is when she actually got to her bed once more. All she knows i that she woke up not wanting to move; and so she didn't. She drifted between sleep and consciousness for what felt like hours before her bladder screamed at her to get up and even then she sat in her bed for another 20 minutes before actually getting up and wandering to the bathroom.

By the time she was out of the bathroom it was... pretty late. She had to squint her eyes to focus on the clock on her phone, to make sure she didn't read it long. 3:30 huh? Good thing she didn't have classes or anything. Was there anything happening today actually? She honestly couldn't remember at first, but the texts piling up in her phone reminded her real quick.

You & your girls coming tonight? Wouldn't be a party without the Zetas ;)

From: King
The lovely ladies of Zeta better show themselves! I expect the best of my favorite sorority!

From: Siren
See ya at the bonfire? I need my favorite Zeta!

Oh yeah the bonfire, she almost forgot that was going on. Her bed seemed more attractive at the moment than socializing and potentially running into people she rather not talk to. But getting to dance with her friends and not having to worry about her
family trying to set her up with one of them quickly won out.

Msg: You're right it wouldn't be. Make sure to save me a dance~

To: King/ Jax
Msg: Of course! wouldn't dream on missing it.

To: Siren/ Brooks
Msg: Yep! I'll be there.
Msg: We both forgot the present it seems.
Msg: I was going to give you a thing of Luminous Lagoon water but it's stopped glowing.
Msg: Good thing I made something in case that happened.

She would bring everyone's gifts with her there and give them out there but a bonfire is not the place to be giving out gifts. They could get lost, or worse, destroyed. She'll just have to remember to hand them out later. Ugh, remembering... not her strong suit. With nine hours to kill, Alea spent most of the time combing her hair still tangled from sleeping while watching videos online and snacking before getting ready. She took her time, lounging in the bath and singing to herself while she did her makeup; nothing much seeing as it would be night and she'll be next to a fire, but some gloss and liner. She didn't think too much about her clothes either, just a black bralette bikini and shorts with a much too large black mesh shirt and wedges. It was something simple that she would usually wear on the island so she saw nothing wrong with it for a bonfire.

By the time she was ready it was 20 minutes before the shuttles left, and while she could probably ask one of her sisters for a ride, she'd rather have a few more minutes to her sober self before she got illegally wasted. Her head bobbed to the music blasting from her earplugs, as she scrolled through her phone deciding on texting Kat who texted her during her food coma.

Msg: Hey girl! I'm great!
Msg: Sorry for the late reply. I died for a moment there.
Msg: I hope my lovely Kat comes to the bonfire~

The sun was already setting by the time Cassius left his room. He's been up since noon tending to his snakes and reading at his desk, lounging in one of his suits as always. He knew today was the bonfire and while he should've been looking through his plethora of suits to find something suitable for a beach bonfire and mansion he was sitting there...killing time in leisure. There was no reason for it. He could very well stress and waste his energy and patience looking for clothes, but he decided to relax and save all that up for the people he will have to rub elbows with. How draining. Still, he was going to go. He was still hindered by the frustration of home to not go and look for a little thing to relieve himself, and who was he to turn down a chance of some fun?

When he did finally leave his room, he made a beeline for the shower, before taking his time again, the water going cold by the time he left the stall, before once again retreating in his room. The lack of an adjoint bathroom was frustrating at best. There wasn't much he had in his closet that would fit into the theme this party had so he didn't even bother looking into it and went straight to the drawers to pull out his more rarely worn clothes before settling on a simple pale and colorful striped button up and linen shorts in case he felt like swiming; definitely not his usual attire but not bad.

By the time he walked out into the hall, the other boys were finishing up too Jax and Khari bantering in the president's doorway with Jake leaving in quite a fluster. "Yes girls, you're both pretty. Are you going to sleep together or shall we find more participants?" He butted in arching a brow over the rim of his glasses before continuing to the living room," four out of five will be carpooling them; unless River also decides to find his own ride."
