Bon to an immature eighteen year old, high school dropout, Brooks was born in a very unprepared household. His mother was teenage drug dealer who had been too busy fooling around and selling drugs to realize she would need protection from pregnancy. Brooks never knew why she decided to have him and keep him, but he's not really complaining about existing. The first few years of his life were spent trying not to die from his mother's neglect. As a baby and toddler, Brooks had to rely on the kindness and decency from drug users, drunk party goers, and strangers. Brooks doesn't know who his father is or if he'll ever know, only that he dropped his mom after he found out she sold drugs. When he was young, he used to imagine a perfect family for himself. He'd have awesome brothers and sisters, two loving parents, and a bunch of cousins, aunts, and uncles. When Brooks turned about seven, he realized the only person who will take care of him is himself. He taught himself how to take care of himself with the help of a few of his mom's buyers and hookups. Brooks was content with his life. He could do whatever he wanted as long as it didn't draw the eye of the police or school officials. If things ever got to crazy at home, he'd escape with his sketch pad and surf board, that he paid for himself from odd jobs around his neighborhood. The two things brought him peace and a sense of normalcy. He liked being 'one' with the water and could spend hours out there. It was a simple life, but Brooks was happy with it.
At twelve, Brook's mother was caught selling drugs to a policeman. They stormed her house, hoping to find more drugs to make her sentence longer and were surprised to find a young boy, cooking dinner for himself. Unfazed by their storming in, he simply asked if they were here for the drugs. Brooks lead them to his mother's stash before asking them to leave once they gathered everything. He was stunned to realize that he had to be taken away from his home. Brooks didn't care if his mother was in jail or not. She more of a roommate then a parent. Brooks was then placed into a foster home. All he brought with him were the few clothes he had, his surfboard, and sketchbook. He didn't like living in this new home due to the rules his foster parents put on him. The police were trying to find any family members of Brooks's, but he couldn't give them any leads. His mother never talked about his grandparents or if she had siblings. His foster parents weren't too fond of Brooks since he didn't listen and seemed unnerved by punishment. A couple months into Brooks's stay at this household, another child arrived. It was a three year old girl who's parents always sold and abused drugs, as well as her. One of the few times Brooks showed emotion was when he saw the bruises. His mother never laid a hand on him, but the idea of a parent hurting their child was appalling to him. He took the younger girl under his wing. Brooks would sing to her at night when she had nightmares or just to put her to sleep. The two would spend all their time together. Her parents never gave her a name so Brooks named her Daisy, knowing the flower meant 'new beginnings,' loyal love, and innocence. Brooks considers her his sister.
Upon turning fourteen, Brooks was hoping for a happy birthday with Daisy. He had the beach, her, and his sketchbook so he needed nothing else. Unfortunately, he received a gift he did not want. The police had found Brooks's extended family. Apparently, his mother had a younger brother who lived in Las Vegas with his boyfriend. The forced move made him angry. First, he would have to leave Daisy. The one person he ever cared about and could never see her again. Second, Las Vegas was land locked so he couldn't go to the beach. Brooks was torn away from the home by Social Services, leaving a crying Daisy as he was forcibly pulled from the home. When Brooks arrived in Las Vegas, he was surprised how normal and successful his uncle was. He was the head of P.R. at McCarran International Airport, the only airport out of Las Vegas. His boyfriend worked at home as a writer. Life was difficult among the three at first. His uncle and boyfriend wanted to settle down with a child, but found it difficult to adopt, especially since they weren't married. His uncle saw the surprise of knowing he had a nephew was blessing to the couple since they'd been looking for a youth to take care of. They were surprised how uncooperative and reluctant he was to settle down. He missed the ocean and Daisy terribly. After a year, he opened up to them about Daisy and his need for ocean. The two men worked their hardest to make Brooks happy in their home. They allowed him to drive to California on the weekends to surf, but weren't sure how to get Daisy back to him. Thanks to a friend of his boyfriend, Tyler was able to find the foster home Daisy lived at. Tyler had a great lawyer on hand so they fought the system to be able to allow Daisy into their care. Brooks can't remember a happier time in his life. She lived with them now and it was perfect family he always wanted.
While his uncle stressed the importance of education, Brooks wasn't too concerned with college. He applied to school near great surf sports and had a Marine Biology Program, as well as Architecture. California was closer, but Fulton was his uncle's alma mater. He decided on Fulton since a coin flip chose it. A fraternity was definitely not something he thought he would join. His uncle didn't care much for Greek life so when he found out Brooks rushed he was surprised, but accepting, especially that he was accepted into Beta, a very picky fraternity. Once again, luck chose for him. We'll see if his luck runs out.
Quirks//Habits//Oddities:
| Believes in Luck | Always wears a Seashell necklace | Runs fingers through hair when he's flirting | bounces his leg when he's trying to think | can't snap | doodles on his homework | snores | speaks the language of flowers | can never remember dates | puts sticky notes all over his room | pretends to be drumming to the beat of whatever music is playing | always smells musky | can't sit in one place for too long | talented singer, but hates singing in front of people |
Good personality traits:
| Nonchalant | Funny | Thick-Skinned | Fearless | Affectionate |
Bad personality traits:
| Secretive | Stubborn | Pacifist | Indecisive | Forgetful |
Personality:
While Brooks is definitely a Beta, he doesn't have the attitude of one. His calm and collect appearance is eye catching among the bigger, snobbier personalities in the group. The lack of worry on his youthful face is very appealing to gaze on. While being calm, he always knows when to crack a joke or do something silly to entertain his friends. Brooks simply doesn't care what others think of his current self. He can take their criticism and shrug it off no big deal. However, he still does not like being told what to do. His aura of calmness hides his more closed off part of himself. Brooks can appear as an open book, but there are plenty of secrets inside the surfer. He isn't quick to tell anyone about his past or what his current thoughts on things are. He prefers the simplicity of not responding.
Like everyone, Brooks has his faults. He is an indecisive person. The idea of making decisions big or small can be a lot to put on him. A natural 'live in the moment' person, the idea of making long term decision is concerning for him. He's more likely to ignore the problem until it either solves itself, disappears, or blows up in his face. One usually happens and it tends to be the latter. Forgetfulness also plays a role. If you need something remembered, it would be better to ask an amnesiac for help than Brooks. The boy can never remember important dates, events, or the time. He tries his best, but it's easier to constantly remind him. His pacifism can be thought to be a positive thing, but Brooks has been described as a 'wimp' due to him not wanting a fight. He's the first to break up a physical argument and first to back out of a fight he's involved in. Again, he doesn't care. Violence is never the answer for him.
Romance is a sticky situation for the sophomore Beta. It is said that Brooks is affectionate with everyone. He flirts, but isn't a massive one like some of the Sigmas. He prefers to have small talk before he decides if she, or he, is someone he wants to be with. Public displays of affection are of no concern to Brooks. He doesn't worry about others' opinion of who he's dating or hooking up with. Brooks is the kind of man who wouldn't fear saying exactly his thoughts towards his companion. However, due to his indecisiveness, choosing the right opportunity takes a while. He enjoys putting his hands on his partners. Cuddling after sex, gentle caresses, and couple like stuff are amazing for him, but he doesn't like having serious relationships. It can be difficult having a friends with benefits situation when he wants to have relationship like fun with his hookups.
Greatest joys in life:
The Ocean: It's been the one consistent thing in his life. The feeling of being in the water is a feeling beyond euphoric. Surfing: It's his favorite hobby. He would go surfing forever if possible. Ice Cream: Nothing's better than ice cream on a hot Miami day. His Family: His uncle, his uncle's boyfriend, and Lydia are one of the few things he appreciates in his life. His Penguin Pillow Pet: Brooks hates the cold, but he adores his Penguin Pillow Pet is Uncle got him when he first moved in. Singing: While surfing is number one, singing just relaxes him.
Greatest fears:
Pollution: Other people don't respect the environment and Brooks worries it will be seriously damaged. His Background: Brooks knows his background isn't exactly positive so he isn't eager for his fraternity brothers or anyone else to find out, especially since the Betas are so picky about their members. He fears they may kick him out. Losing Daisy: He can't lose her again. Violence: While Brooks can defend himself, he's seen violence from his life with his mother and Daisy. He doesn't want to hurt anybody. Commitment: The boy's never had to commit to a person or career before. He's scared of how that'll affect his normally carefree life. Singing in Public: While he appears aloof and uncaring of what people think of him, singing in front of others terrifies him. He likes to have it as a relaxer and would rather not have something people can tell him to do better.

"I didn't really realize I was rushing a fraternity till bid night. I just showed up and I got a few bids. I wasn't smart enough for the Kappas so it basically Sigma or Beta. I flipped a coin and it landed on tails which was Beta so I'm a Beta. I like it so far. The guys are cool and our sister house is awesome, but I don't like the whole 'I can't talk to you, because we're in different houses' thing. It's lame. As well as the 'hiding sexuality thing,' I don't make a big deal about it, but if someone wants to know I'll tell them."
Brooks didn't exactly rush on purpose. His roommate dragged him to a rush with him and Brooks thought it was just some party thing. On bid night, his roommate got no bids, but Brooks ended up with a choice between Beta and Sigma. A coin chose Beta so that's where he went. Beta has been great since he gets invited to all the parties and all the girls are interested in him. However, he didn't understand why the other fraternities and sororities don't like him. He tries to be cool with all of them, earning some disapproval from his fraternity brothers, but he does his own thing. He thinks the party houses are awesome and the smart are sweet and helpful. As for his sexuality, Brooks doesn't care if people know he's with or not. Beta can deal with that if they want.
Plans for after college:
"I've always loved the ocean so working in Marine Biology will be doing what I love, but I also like drawing and designing buildings. I'm still a sophomore so I have some more time to decide."
Brooks is struggling to decide whether he wants to work in Marine Biology or be an Architect. He likes the idea of both careers, but double majoring in them will be an extreme, and almost impossible, course load. His advisor told him he needs to make a decision before he reaches junior year. He likes the idea of running his own surf shop when he gets more established in whatever career he chooses.
Build:
Brooks is proud of his muscular body from years of surfing. He has clear muscle in his arms, legs, and abdomen
Height & Weight:
5'11 ft. & 165 lbs.
Hair Color:
Brooks has always had a big of mass of wavy curls hair on his head. The roots of his hair is a dark brown, but it gets lighter the further you get down the strand. His hair is natural, gaining his blonder locks from so much time in the sun. He typically leaves his curls down in a sexy 'just had sex' kind of way. If he is working, working out, or gets tired of his curls in his face, Brooks will put his hair into a man-burn. He might use a headband occasionally, but prefers the bun. He absolutely hates ponytails or braids in his hair.
Eye Color:
Pear Green
Distinguishing Marks:
- No piercings
- A beach tattoo on his right arm
Style:
Brooks embodies the surfer look in every way, especially in his clothing. He always dresses like he'll be going to beach or pool at any moment. His slightly dressier version of himself is a more nautical, preppy style. Typically, you'll find Brooks in flip flops or sandals. He likes easy to slip on and off school. Cargo shorts and loose pants are common as well. Brooks prefers simple T-Shirts and tank tops for shirts. He will always be found wearing a shell necklace he made.
