Khari has a pretty basic style, and while he likes to look nice, comfort is typically his choice above all else. Jeans and a t-shirt are usually good enough for him, occasionally he'll swap out the jeans for a pair of joggers if he's feeling extra lazy, or has an early lecture. When he has to dress up, Khari will often opt for the classic black shirt, trousers, shoes and tie look. Then when it comes to outerwear, Khari channels full bad boy in his favourite black biker jacket, or maybe if he's feeling a little less badass, a normal denim jacket. Enjoying dark colours, it's rare to find Khari in anything that's not black, grey, white or sometimes dark red.

A P P E A R A N C E
Khari has the kind of bone structure plastic surgeons use to show their clients the ideal 'after' look. His chiselled jawline is cause for much swooning when it comes to the ladies, and Khari loves the attention he gets from his face. In a college filled with highly attractive people, Khari makes sure he's almost always in the limelight with his eye-catching dreads and tattoos. However, there's one sore spot for Khari when it comes to his appearance, and that is his inability to grow facial hair. You'll notice that the only kind he's ever been able to grow is a measly moustache and a little chin fluff. This is something a lot of his frat mates make fun of him for and Khari gets mad as hell anytime it's mentioned. Khari wishes he could grow a full beard, unfortunately for him, that's most likely not going to happen for a while; so he tends to shave it all off.

T A L E N T S
Acting || Stage fright is an issue that has never once plagued Khari. He lives for the stage, being the centre of attention and having everyone know your name. If there was one person born to be an actor it was Khari.

Befriending People || Charisma oozes out of Khari and he's the kind of person that if he likes the look of you, he'll walk up and introduce himself, which means he's never really had a hard time making friends.

Flirting || Khari is naturally a massive flirt, and he's good at it too. All of the Sigma boys are pretty good at talking their way into your bed, but none quite like Khari, he knows all the moves and definitely isn't afraid to use them.

W E A K N E S S E S
Honesty || Now, Khari is a truthful guy, he doesn't sugarcoat things and likes to tell it as it is. However, when it comes to hook-ups, Khari's not quite so good at breaking things off so bluntly. This often gets him into a lot of shit.

His Family || There is nothing Khari would not do for his mother & sister. They are the only two people in the world he would kill for, and if anyone ever hurts them, they're in for a lot of pain. Perhaps he can be too overbearing, but Khari just wants to be able to protect them.

Isolation || Khari thrives in social situations, so when he is placed into an area where he has to work alone, he doesn't do quite so well. Often, he just ends up looking like a little lost puppy.

P E R S O N A L I T Y
Flirtatious | Fickle | Charismatic | Arrogant

( i )
Regardless of gender, if you've come into contact with Khari, you've been exposed to his flirtatious nature. Even without really realising it, Khari will turn on the charm when meeting any new person, and can either come off as very charming, or sometimes very overbearing. He never really means to immediately fall into flirting, it just seems to be his default, which makes it hard to switch off. However, this flirtatious side does come in handy when he's looking for a hookup as most people already know him infamously as 'that guy', you know, the one you go to if you want a one night stand and not much more. Khari's reputation proceeds him which is good for him now, but perhaps not when he grows older and actually wants to settle down - he can't stay a bachelor forever, no matter how much he may want to.

( ii )
With this flirtatious side, comes a less pleasant one; Khari is incredibly fickle. He has the kind of personality where he'll find a person he likes and be addicted to them in the moment, then five seconds later, someone else comes up to him and Khari wants to be glued to their side all night instead. When you're surrounded by beautiful people, it's hard not to have wandering eyes - or so Khari says. Most people understand that Khari is a one, maybe two, hookup kind of guy and then he's done. Others, however, are a little too sensitive to be down with that arrangement and Khari has been slapped more times than he cares to remember by a jilted lover. Nevertheless, Khari doesn't see the fault with him, but rather that person because they didn't understand the type of guy he was. Again, not the best way to be.

( iii )
The reason Khari makes such a good journalist, is because he can get just about anyone chatting. No matter how shy or difficult the person may be, there's something about Khari that just makes people want to chill with him. This comes in handy a lot when he needs to write an article on touchy subjects, or get information out of a notoriously tightlipped person. It also means that he is somehow one of the only guys to have bedded at least a quarter of the Theta house, who are known to be 'good girls'. But despite this insanely outgoing side to Khari, when he's just hanging with his friends, he can be a pretty chill guy. This charismatic aura simply makes it easier for Khari to talk to people, but that's not to say he's constantly jumping down people's throats trying to talk to them. If he thinks you look like you'd be cool, Khari has no qualms with walking up and introducing himself to you, but that doesn't necessarily means he does it all the time.

( iv )
With good looks, an outgoing personality and a fair amount of money comes a lot of arrogance, which Khari certainly isn't exempt from. It's hard not to have a big head when you have every reason to be a bit of an arrogant dick. Khari likes to think he keeps his arrogance pretty well bottled up, but occasionally he can't help slipping up and having a little brag to some cute guy he's trying to chat up. A little bit of arrogance isn't even necessarily a bad thing, however it comes it when you let that arrogance consume your personality until that is literally all you are. Khari thinks of the Alpha boys when he's trying to explain what true arrogance is. They're shamelessly cocky, at least Khari has the decency to feel a little bad for being this way. Not that he really feels bad enough to actually try to change as a person. That would be way too much effort and, Khari likes himself the way he is - arrogance and all.

"My dad went to Fulton, he never joined a frat and honestly I wasn't gonna either until I met the Sigma guys. Everyone's chill and we all get along really well so I thought, fuck it, why not? Turned out that was one of the best decisions I could've made and here I am, a senior and still living with the Sigma's. I don't know what my college experience would've been like if I hadn't joined Sigma, but I know it definitely would've been way, way more boring."

Khari loves the fraternity that he's in and couldn't imagine never having joined. However, if Sigma had never been an option to him, Khari most likely wouldn't have pledged either of the others because they just didn't feel quite right for it. His whole experience at Fulton has be drastically shaped by the Sigma's, something that Khari wouldn't change for the world.

"I have no fucking clue what I wanna do with my future. Which is intense because it's not that long 'til I graduate. I know media and drama are my two passions and obviously I'd kill to make it as an actor, but as my mom says, you gotta think realistically. I'm thinking of applying for an internship at The New York Times, although that's super fucking competitive so who really knows. Honestly, right now I'm just tryna live life in the moment and see how it goes."

Khari doesn't have a solid idea of what he wants to do in the future. He'd love to be an actor, but he's also passionate about journalism and is thinking about applying for an internship with The New York Times.

Dalia Balewa (nee. Ola) | Mother | 47 | Costume Designer
Being raised for most of his life by a single mother, Khari and Dalia have always had a very strong bond. He'd do anything for his mother, as he would his little sister. Sure, Dalia was strict with Khari growing up, but that's something that he's actually grateful for because he could've very easily gone off the rails completely after his father's death.

Kali Owusu | Sister | 16 | Student
Khari has always been, and always will be, very protective over Kali. Being the elder sibling, and only guy in the house for a long time, Khari felt a kind of duty to be the one that looked after Kali. If he ever saw her having trouble at school, or being picked on Khari would always go over and scare the other kids off. While Kali may not always appreciate this, she does deeply love her brother and knows that he only does it because he cares.

Isaac Balewa | Step-Father | 52 | Trial Lawyer at Balewa & Burns Associates
Isaac came into Khari's life when he was 17, which for most people is already a pretty rocky time, but is only made worse by your mom informing you that a strange man and his daughter are going to move into your house. Their relationship to begin with was not good at all, Khari hated that Isaac became the new authority in the house and often attempted to rebel - something his mother was quick to stop. Eventually, as Khari grew up, he began to respect Isaac rather than resent him, and now the two have a mutual respect and understanding.

Faith Balewa | Step-Sister | 25 | Tax Attorney
Is it weird to have a crush on your step-sister? Because Khari definitely does. It sounds a little 'clueless', but he can't help it. She's hot. And super intelligent. Which is one very powerful combination. Faith tolerates Khari and finds his crush on her funny, but they aren't exactly close. She lives in New York now though, so Khari rarely sees her.

H I S T O R Y
Dalia and Matthew were highschool sweethearts, they had grown up together in Brooklyn, and their families were both extremely close. Being raised in America during a time where tolerance of people who seemed 'different' wasn't common place meant that the two, and a few other African-American families, often had to stick together in situations where they might otherwise have been outcast. Despite this, Dalia has always been deeply involved in her African roots. Her mother would always tell her stories about when she was a girl growing up, and the beautiful country they both originated from. As she ages, Dalia would make sure her children were also well versed in their heritage, and due to her job as a seamstress (at the time), she enjoyed making Khari little dashikis and colourful head ties for Kali. Family has always been an important part of Khari's life. So when he lost his father to a car accident - at only ten years old - the news shook not only the Balewa household, but the community of tight knit friends they had built around them.

Tragedies like these don't soon leave a person and Dalia found that she could no longer stand to live surrounded by the memories of her dear husband. Taking her two small children, she fled Brooklyn in search of a new beginning. After moving around a lot, finally Dalia landed a permanent job Florida, where she took a job as a seamstress in the costume department of the Olympia Theatre, situated in Miami. It was here that she met the man who would soon become Khari's step-father. Isaac had taken a lady out on a (clearly unsuccessful) date to the Olympia Theatre when he spotted Dalia milling around the after party. She was beautiful, even rushing around trying to talk to everyone, her smile was enough to make him melt at first sight. After introducing himself, the pair went on to date after date, and eventually after a five year relationship, Isaac and his daughter from a previous marriage moved in, and then shortly after that, he proposed.

Isaac and Dalia married when Khari was eighteen. An age where you're already struggling with your identity, so when a strange man and his daughter suddenly moved into his house, well, Khari was more than just a little upset. He couldn't understand why he wasn't enough, surely he could take care of his mother and sister, there was no need for this other man. What Khari couldn't comprehend was that his mother was in love, for the first time since his father. Now, Isaac has always been a very nice man, but with Khari's constant rebelling, he struggled to keep his cool. It took a year and whole lot of growing up, before Khari finally realised how childish he was being. From that point on, things got a whole lot easier for the family, and Isaac even offered to put Khari through college, something he's known he wanted to do since his father told him about his college days.

There was only ever one option when it can to college for Khari. He didn't care about what the best place for the course he wanted to do was, or even how high on the league table it sat, Fulton was where he believed he had to go. Not being able to remember an awful lot about his father, Khari felt that if he got into Fulton he'd be just that little bit closer to his father, and really, that's all he ever wanted. With a stroke of luck, Khari just about managed to get the grades that would get him into Fulton, and by the fall he was attending his first ever year at the college.

Joining Sigma was a spur of the moment decision for Khari - his father never joined a fraternity - but it just felt right. And now, he wouldn't change his college experience for the world. He loves his brothers, and knows that he wouldn't be who he is today without them. Not that his mother would necessarily agree that's a particularly good thing.

The campus was alive with excitement, anxiety, nerves, and anticipation. A new school year has begun and for some, they are moving onto campus for the first time. They've looked at DIYs on Pinterest to decorate their new dorm rooms, managed to find the contact information for their prospective roommate so that they could figure out which one of them was going to bring the television or the small fridge, and prepared themselves for the over-dramatic goodbyes they're bound to receive from overprotective mothers and fathers. For some, they are arriving at Fulton or even Florida in an entirely new environment with a set of people they probably never encountered in their hometowns. Others are simply moving on campus from down the street. For a select few, they not only have done this before - this move in process - but they aren't as enthused. Not unless, of course, you are a part of the Greek life system. For these groups, some are older members awaiting the arrival of the new members they inducted just before the summer, little brothers and sisters they can't wait to fully ensnare into their individual fraternity culture. The others are these new members, eager to move away from the communal dorms and into their respective houses for the first times, eager for all the fun and belonging this new year is bound to bring them. This year means exclusive invitations to parties that other students wouldn't get. Hopefully, they're just as prepared for the drama this year is bound to bring as well.

Some upperclassmen were allowed to move on to campus earlier for various reasons. For instance, Katiana returned to campus on Monday because the dance team began conditioning before the school year even started; because her sister and father were helping her in (her mom couldn't take off), she ended up staying at the hotel with them and getting rides to campus during the day. Plus, Professor Lang - Tricia, now that Kat was allowed to call her that - had wanted her there earlier so that they could shape Katiana's schedule around Tricia's. There was no point in her having classes that would put her on one side of the campus when she would have to be in Tricia's class, helping, five minutes afterwards. The last four days had been grueling. The Fulton University dance team earned their stripes by strenuous hours of exercise and maintaining their flexibility, and while Kat was experienced in all of that, she was still human and was sore afterwards. Even now. It probably didn't help that she hadn't exactly spent as much of her summer as she normally did dancing.

"Why are they working y'all so hard? Ain't y'all already on the team?" Aja inquired, thumbs digging into the still slightly tense muscles in Kat's right calf, taking up a soothing rotation as she tried to massage the ache away. It wasn't nearly as bad as yesterday when Kat returned to hotel, but she knew it was going to bother her for the rest of the day. Luckily, Kat wasn't a novice to this. It was her own fault for not being as vigilant this summer. "Not really," she replied after a wince. Aja had struck a particular tense spot and after a few harder rubs, Kat relaxed onto the sofa they managed to make into the space under her bed. Even though Fulton happened to renovate the Greek homes, it didn't stop them from being cheap to an extent and putting beds that would've belonged to bunk beds in the shared bedrooms. It just so happened that Aja already had a plan for her because of that knowledge.

"Everybody but the captain and co-captain gotta audition to get their spot back on the team. Those of us who were, get to do the conditioning and learn the routine ahead of the newbies so that by the time auditions actually go down, we get judged - not just by how well we do the moves, but how much we add a lil somethin'-somethin' to it." Aja sucked her teeth, wincing in sympathy as she eventually stopped her ministrations so that Kat could fully lay back, legs on her big sister's lap. "Sucks, kiddo," she remarked. Kat was busy texting Jake, Kory, and Annabelle before she responded. "Tis life, babe," she replied, taking in her side of the room, hand in her hair. She'd been hit all over again with the giddiness that came with having Annabelle as her roommate and she couldn't wait to see the redhead. Their names had been on the bedroom door in the Theta colors. But she also couldn't wait to see Jake and Kory, even though she had seen both several times over the summer.

To: Jake, Kory
Dad & AJ wanna kno if u both need help?

To: Annie <3
Just moved in. Where r u roomie?

"Let's go. Dad's probably taking up your new sisters on crushing those pasties and coffee," Aja commented and Katiana slid her feet off the older woman; the petite dance rose to her feet and stretched, ignoring the near silent pop in the base of her spine. She needed to do another stretch before the day was over, a longer one at that. "Shit, I might take 'em up on that," she said with a grin, scooping up her phone and keys as she followed her sister out. The older Thetas made decaffeinated and caffeinated coffee that they had freshly ground in the morning with an assortment of scones, danishes, and pastries, with a few savory treats Kat's fast metabolism was ready to take on. Hopefully, they also had tea. Kat didn't feel like coming back upstairs to get her stash of loose-leaf just yet.

"I'm glad to see you not asleep for once." Jax groaned as his Grandfather teased. Today was move in day for all incoming students and as a part of Housing Team, Jax is required to help the freshman move in. If he hears one more new kid complain about their room assignment, he'll rip his, and their, hair out. 'They should've applied earlier if they want a good dorm.' Jax smiled thinking about it. He didn't have to worry about having a decent dorm, new roommates, or unpacking. Being the President of Sigma meant moving in before everybody else. He also has his own room, already decorated to impress. He'd have to check and see how his boys are doing moving in soon though, especially his little. If only he could finish this roommate reassignment form fast!

"I'm about to! I'm getting old. Maybe we can pick out nursing homes together?" While this response would've guaranteed a punch in the face from any one else, Jackson King the First simply smiled before fake punching his grandson. Jax's grandfather, a former Sigma, wanted to tour the campus one more before jetting off to California for the opening of the newest King Hotel. The whole family normally would've helped Jax move in, but his sister had to visit her husband's family in Canada due to her new pregnancy. Anthony was planning his wedding to his long time fiancΓ©, James, with his mother's help. Jax's father... He just didn't want to come. The man despised looking at the Sigma house, even more moving his son into it. The two haven't talked since the beginning of summer so it doesn't surprise Jax that he didn't show up on move in day.

After FINALLY finishing the stupid roommate reassignment, Jax sent some texts to his boys and his favorite girls.

To: Baby Momma #1 / Deanna
Hey sweet thang! Ready to cause some trouble? Where you at?

To: Little Bro / Jakub, Ice Man / Cassius, Sexy Sigma / Khari
My boys! I'm almost out of this hellhole of work. (Β¬_Β¬) About to head back to the house. Let me know if y'all need help!

To: Future Mrs. King / Korinna
Are you talking care of our son? He hasn't destroyed our frat house yet has he?

After pocketing his phone, Jax turned to his grandfather. He had to leave soon. It was kinda weird. Jax has done this several times, but this is Senior Year. He'll see his grandfather for holidays and breaks, but it's the last time they'll have this. Pretty soon, no more college parties or classes, well he won't miss that. "Appreciate the time you've got left, my boy. You'll always be Sigma, a damn fine one too." Jax was pulled into a hug by his grandfather. It was bittersweet. Thankfully, nobody was in the office. He'd die of embarrassment if someone saw such a private moment. "We'll see you at Thanksgiving. Try to bring a girl home too. We love Korinna, but we mean a girlfriend, no space." Jax let out a chuckle before pulling his beanie tighter on his head. 'We'll have to see.' The two men went their separate ways, one going to airport and the other to his house.

~

After approaching the legendary Sigma house's door, Jax got the key out of the fake rock they keep on the doorstep. It comes in handy when the guys aren't too drunk to remember. Entering his home for the next year, Jax hollered out, "The President is here! Where are my boys at?"

Location: Wandering around Fulton || Kappa Alpha House

"Yes, Sir. I'll talk to you later. Tell mother that I love her." Cornelius muttered on the phone as he ended the conversation with his father. A soft sigh escaped over his lips as he knew exactly what he was doing by spiting his father and joined one of the best fraternities on campus, Kappa Alpha. Today was move in day for just about everyone and that's exactly what he was doing right about now as he slung his bag over his shoulder then picked up a small box with his smaller belongings placed inside. With a turn of his heel, he started to waltz towards the Kappa Alpha house though in order to get there, he had to pass by the Sigmas household then made a note to text his buddies, Jax and Khari, later on to see what they were up to. But for right now, many people that he passed eyed him flirtatiously and he could not help but to return the flirtatious glares. Cornelius even stopped to have a conversation or two with people that made him stop, just to say hey and nothing too serious.

After walking a few more steps, he was finally inside of the Kappa Alpha house and immediately went up to his room and just threw his belongings onto his bed. While he wanted to get ready and set his room up, he heard a few voices downstairs and decided to see who was already present within the house. Cornelius turned the corner that led into the kitchen and saw the president of the chapter, Harry, sitting on the counter and saw another member of the fraternity present, as well. "Dude. Some of us prepare our meals there." Cornelius said with a laughter following those words as he stood beside him now. "Anyways, how have you been, man? Anything new with you?" Cornelius asked as he went over towards the fridge and grabbed himself a bottled water then took a small sip from it. He felt his phone vibrate inside of his pocket and heard it chime as he sat his bottled water down onto the counter beside Harry and pulled his phone out of his pocket, seeing it was Nick sending him a text to see if he needed anything.

To: Nick <3
Where was this message at whenever I needed help with my luggage?! lol

But no, I'm good, stud. Just get your sexy ass here! :D

Cornelius sent the text with a smile as he loved to tease Nick and flirt with him constantly. It was not for attraction purposes though, it was simply just to get underneath his skin a little bit. While he had his phone in hand, he decided to send out a few more texts towards people.

To: AJ :)
Dude, where are you? Need help with your luggage or something?

To: Maddox
Gym later? Not that we really need it but just an excuse to see you.

To: Jax & Khari
What's up, fellas? Will it be safe for me to visit the Sigma house soon? lol

He sent out those messages but there was one in particular that was he was definitely going to send out. It was one towards Katiana and he could not wait to see her sometime today or later that night. But her message was going to be the last one that he sent out since he had to give his fingers a little bit of a rest right about now.

To: Kat <3 :D
Hey there. You on campus yet?

Unlike almost everyone else at Fulton, Khari hadn't left Miami much over the summer. His family already lived out there, and he didn't have any fancy internship or expensive holidays to whisk him away. Much as he may wish he did. The longest he went away for was half a week, and even then that was just to visit Faith, his step-sister, in New York. It was only a three hour flight which made it easy for Khari to often go and visit Faith whenever his step-father did. It was something that Khari liked to do just to get away from the monotony of life in Miami. Becoming so accustomed to uni and home-life there, Khari sometimes felt like he needed an escape, so he took the opportunity whenever it was presented.

However, aside from that one short trip, Khari had spent the rest of his summer working at LIV which was tiring, but certainly came with its perks. For example, Khari worked every night there was an event - meaning that he had gotten to see the likes of Skrillex, Travis Scott and Lil Wayne perform. He'd also worked the same night Fergie performed, although that was something he wasn't in a rush to tell anyone about, especially because he enjoyed it way more than he felt he should. Whoever says they don't like Fergalicious is a fucking liar in Khari's mind.

Sighing as he stretches before hopping up out of bed, where he had been laying for almost half an hour now, thinking about nothing as Frank Ocean played softly in the background. He was happy that he would see his brothers today, having missed them a surprising amount as they jetted all over the world, leaving him in Miami alone. Quietly, Khari curses all the amount of time he spent with Kali, his little sister, this summer blaming her for the reason he was being all emotional and shit.

"Khari if you still want a lift to Fulton, you better get your ass down here right now." Oh shit. His mom was mad. Glancing at his watch, Khari realises why. That half an hour he had spent in bed turned out to be an hour and a half. Switching off his Sonos speaker, Khari grabs his pre packed duffel bag, thanking God for past him having the initiative to prepare everything last night. Giving his room a final once over, Khari turns and shuts his bedroom door behind him, rushing downstairs. "Hey mom, I'm ready." Khari grins, flashing his white teeth in hopes that his charming smile will make her just a little less angry.

Shaking her head at her son, Dalia finishes off her coffee and dumps the mug into the sink, grabbing her car keys off the kitchen counter. "Come on then, you're going to make me late for work." Dalia sighs, as Khari follows her out to the car, stopping only to give his little sister Kali a hug before continuing to follow his mother. As they get into the car, Khari glances back at the front door where Kali is stood. Waving to her as they drive off, Khari settles back into his seat, ready for the twenty minute drive back to Fulton. "Sorry I got distracted earlier, thanks for giving me a ride though." It was at times like this Khari regretted never learning to drive, which was something very uncommon for an American teenager, but since he was always given lifts by his friends or family members, Khari never felt like he actually needed to learn how to drive himself.

Watching the cars driving by out of his window, Khari zones out for a moment before he is brought back to reality by a buzzing from his phone. Smiling as he checks it, Khari sees two messages - One was a group text from Jax and one from Cornelius. Unlocking his phone, Khari quickly sends back replies.

To: Big Boss / Jax, Lil Bro / Cassius, The Accomplice / Jakub
Lads!! I'm nearly home. Hope you didn't miss me too much.

To: Secret Sigma / Cornelius, Big Boss / Jax
You wanna hang w/ the Sigmas now? Come by later I'll have the initiation ritual all set up ;)

Lightly chuckling to himself at the thought of some sort of cult initiation into the Sigmas, Khari knew that it would freak Cornelius out before he realised that he was joking. Thinking about if there were any texts he needed to send out, Khari decides to shoot out a couple of his own.

To: Angel Ally / Alea, Dee Dee / Deanna, Queen Kory / Korinna
I hope my Zeta girls didn't forget about me...Who am I kidding, as if you could ;)

To: Lil Bro / Cassius
You at Fulton yet man? Hope you had a good summer.

Shoving his phone back into his pocket, Khari glances up to see that they are just now pulling into Fulton, he smiles at the school as they pass actually happy to be back. Khari was looking forward to all the chaos he and his Sigma boys were bound to cause this year.

β€œOi, gyal! Don’t ya go tiffin me plantains! If ya want some you ask,” Alea called her out when she turned around to see Deanna sneaking in, having opened her texts as soon as the chime went off and knowing she would; anything to stop her from bending over with her sore back really,” Really now, we live in Miami. There are plantains in the store.” Her accent was thicker than it was before the break, making her sound a lot angrier than she actually was, but the smile on her lip and the shuddering of her shoulders blew that intimidating image away like smoke. Why would she be mad? She’s with her friend! The first friend she’s met since getting of that wretched plane. She was quick to circle the island and pulled the taller girl into a hug only pulling back to beam her with a dazzling smile.

β€œβ€™Ey, wa gwan, Deanna? How was Angeles?” She asked her, moving back around the counter to put away the food once more, starting with the plantains. She worked very hard smuggling this in… Okay that’s a lie. She didn’t hide it and no one cared. Still, she brought it back from her own tree like most of the produce she brought back with her and hell will have to freeze over before she parts from it just like that.

The sound of her phone going off interrupted their reunion and when Alea opened it up, she scoffed and shook her head with a chuckle, only giving Deanna a name before typing a quick reply, ”Khari…”

To: Flirty idiot #1

MSG: And who are you again?

MSG: Are you one of the guys I danced with at the first wedding? Or the second wake?

Of course she’s only teasing, Khari was fun to tease and she wasn’t going to pass up a chance to mess with him. She’ll have to go and find him to give him his present anyway. Speaking of presents- β€œOh yeah! Presents!” Alea bounded toward one of the many bags on the island, skidding in front of one of them. Alea dug through it as quickly and delicate as she could before she squealed in triumph and turning back around. β€œIt’s not much but I hope you like them!!”

While the siblings bickered with themselves in the kitchen, Cassius sat in the living room, his eyes glued to his phone at his thumb scrolled through the book he had downloaded earlier in the week for the flight back to Miami while his earbuds sat in his ears uselessly, not even on to block out the racket those two were making. He had went back to Rye for the summer to escape from the Florida heat and to see his family which was the more socially acceptable reason he supposed. Honestly, it was mostly boring pleasantries in a town much too small for him now. It was like he never left, and that bothered him; nothing changed, and he doubts anything ever will. Still he was able to go to a reptile show in London and bought four new ball pythons, all exquisite genos with amazing features to add to his collection.

They were actually being handled at the moment; all four of them. The VPI Axanthic Firefly sat coiled between the fingers of his free hand, the black and white pattern dizzying to any on trying to follow just how it ended up in that position. The Citrus Pastel Lesser Spider was able to avoid the same fate by instead curling around his forearm, the caramel patterned snake’s tongue flitting about whenever his muscles moved to swipe with his thumb, His third, his Lavender Albino Snow was curled in his lap and slowly making its way up his body, its flicking tongue already visible over the phone as if planned to scale it. And the last, his Sugar Queenspin coiled daintily around his neck, it’s scales nearly pure white. It was surely a sight, but nothing new to Cassius, or any of the other boys for the amount of times he’s taken several snakes out like this.

At the mention of Jax, his phone lit up with text messages from the missing sigmas. β€œThe king will be here soon it seems…Shall I doll out the red carpet and alert the choir?” He called out towards them, sounding as bored and disinterested as he looked,” Oh and Khari is on his way as well, how disheartening.” Of course he didn’t mean it, he was mostly just dreading the noise they will bring with them, destroying what little peace he had and dragging him into whatever they plan on doing now. Might as well try and warn them not to startle, else he’ll be in a world of hurt.

To: Jackson & Khari
MSG: Please try not to cause a spectacle when you arrive. I have my snakesd gf

Too late. Jax’s already busting down the and yelling, causing the small coils of muscle wrapped around him to tense up and squeeze his into submission. The phone stubbled out of his hand as Spider undid his grip while his Firefly wound his fingers around itself. The phone missed his Snow who is currently in a ball under his thigh while his Queen was trying -and failing- to get it’s pudgy body around the column of his throat. It wasn’t all that painful, just not pleasant and after some coaxing he was able to peel them all off to curl into balls in his lap.β€œSo much for the red carpet,” He said bitterly, picking up his phone once more, earbuds now out from the whole ordeal.

Nick honestly shouldn't be surprised when he received responses like the one he just did from CJ, but he couldn't help the way he almost choked on another sip of coffee, effectively catching a little bit of attention when he stopped in the middle of the walkway. Sputtering out an excuse to a passing classmate he remembered from a lab from last year that currently wanted to help, Nick had to clear his throat, cheeks tinted pink, before managing to send out a response to CJ. The flirting had never been anything serious because it would more than likely make being a Big and a Little one hell of an awkward situation, but it never failed to get a reaction out of Nick. And apparently always the ones CJ wanted if the triumph on the guy's face every single time said something. It was only half exasperating, more amusing than anything else.

To: CJ
Srsly? Im gonna have gray hairs b4 i leave here cuz of ur flirty ass. omw

It didn't take long for Nick to return to the Kappa house with the brisk pace he took, and he climbed up the stairs and into the house just in time for Arden's rather enthusiastic announcement. "Well, that's one way to do it," Nick remarked and patted the sophomore on the shoulder with a welcoming smile. "Probably gonna order out tonight if Harry doesn't mother bear everyone, so figure out what you want to eat." They hadn't really talked it through just yet, which was why Nick was headed into the kitchen anyway to look up what menus they still had at the house and weren't thrown away upon renovation, but he figured that no one wanted to eat in the school's cafeteria on the first night. Yes, it was open and yes, it was convenient. But this was also their first night back and it deserved something better than cafeteria food. Nick wasn't against cooking anything since it would be one of the few times during the school year that he would actually have the time to help out, and not have to dip on them, but it would mean that he and Harry would have to go grocery shopping. Which would need to get done now while everyone was still in the process of moving in.

Harry was still in the kitchen when Nick entered it and Nick's smile was bigger, brighter when he saw his best friend. "Hey, man," he greeted, not hesitating to pull the fellow senior into a hug. Soon enough, though too soon if you let his mind tell the story, but Nick squashed that uncomfortable voice down - he was pulling away and rummaging through one of the drawers beside Harry's leg. "So I was thinking we either cook tonight for the guys or order out. We still got the menus from last year? Or do we need to just go ahead and hit up Krogers?"

"Okay, but what's not 'bout to happen is y'all shit stayin' in the middle of the hallway like this," Deanna snapped as she maneuvered through the halls. Boxes were in the hallway along with various other items and she had half the mind to kick over the obviously Ikea-bought chair, but side-stepped it. "Let ya shit still be in my way come tomorrow and I'm throwin' shits away." She was pretty sure there was someone who said "fuck you" amidst the laughs - why they were laughing when Deanna was dead fucking serious was beyond her, but she'd fix them tomorrow and see who was laughing then - so she didn't hesitate to stretch her arms out, as she headed to the stairs, and exclaim playfully, "Name the time and place boo." She was also pretty sure that the tiny decorative pillow that hit the wall above her head before tumbling down the steps was directed at her as well, but Dee didn't care. She was more than likely going to steal it, if it was still at the bottom of the staircase later, and dare someone to come try to take it back.

Sadly, all of those earlier actions resulted in her not being as stealthy as she wanted to be upon entering the kitchen and seeing Alea distractedly putting food away. At least, Dee had thought the girl had been distracted until Alea whirled on her. "But Leeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaa," Deanna whined, effectively turning from a woman in her twenties into a rather tall two year old, lower lip poked out and everything. She had pulled her lollipop out of her mouth before she entered the kitchen. "They're Miami plantains. You and I both know there's a difference between Miami plantains and island plantains." That wasn't exactly true. Sentiments demanded that she believe that plantains grown on their homelands were better than the ones in the states, but out of all of the states for plantains to be bought, Miami was the best. They had really good ones, sweet and non-sweet. Yet and still, Deanna pretended to sulk, sticking her candy back in her mouth all sullenly even as she accepted the big hug her fellow Zeta gave her. Obviously, the face wasn't going to work at all since Alea was going back to putting food away, so Deanna only grinned at the inquiry about LA and hopped up onto one of the empty counters. "Amazing," she insisted around a mouthful of lollipop, gave a prompt suck so that she could swallow of the juicy deliciousness, and then pulled it out to better talk. "Definitely better waves, awesome vibes, and honestly better everything cuz a bitch's hair is out here growin' and ish," she added with a glide of her fingers through her shoulder-length hair paired with an arrogant grin. Before she could follow up with information about the internship or even ask about Alea's summer, both of their phones went off and Deanna was too lazy to reach into her pocket at the moment, so it was probably luck that it was Khari texting all of them, Deanna and Alea included. Dee rolled her eyes the second Alea told her and grudgingly pulled it out only to see Lea's response in their group chat, and laughed. "Daaaaaayyyuuuummm son." She chuckled as she also text him back.

To: Khari
We dont luv dese heuxes ;D

As she grinned at her own response for him and slid her phone back into its place, Alea was rummaging through one of the bags and Deanna perked up, sliding her lollipop back in her mouth to further enjoy it. To be quite honest, she had half the mind to get more coffee, but the candy was a pretty decent substitute and it was sweeter. Of course, all thoughts of candy and coffee were literally dumped from her brain the second Alea turned around. Not because Deanna couldn't shades and a bracelet anywhere, really. She liked them so much because Deanna just liked presents. She didn't get them often, only for Christmas really. So, whenever she received a gift, it brought a genuine smile to her face, much like the one she gave Alea. "Whaaaaattt? Of course I like 'em, boo. I'm 'bout to be cute," she declared and delicately took both from the girl, hugging her real quick so that she can actually put the glasses on.

MSG: U know me so well...b there soon ;)

After putting his phone down, Jakub finally manages to get the coffee machine parts in order. It took much longer than it should have, but it's done. At least, Kory hopes he did otherwise there will be firetrucks surrounding the Sigma house within the next couple of days. Kory swiftly pushes herself off of the counter she'd been leaning on and checks her phone one more time. It seems she'd been so caught up with Jake, she missed the opportunity to help her girls move in. Of course. She sighed, knowing all too well this would happen. She would just have to make it up to them somehow.

To: Liitle Lea/ Dee
MSG:I'm sorry babes, u know takin care of Jake is like having custody of a five year old.

MSG: on my way over. Want some food?

Okay, so maybe Jakub wasn't as wild and difficult to tame as Kory made him sound, but there's also the fact that anytime he is out of her supervision he manages to get himself in some bullshit trouble. Trouble that she later has to deal with, and knowing that Khari would be back soon didn't help at all. Between the two of them and Deanna, Kory is sure she's going to have gray hairs by the time she's thirty. She bit her lip, looking over the message from Khari for the second time before exiting back out without a reply. Maybe before the summer began, she would have been fine with being just another one of "his girls", and she was. Until she wasn't. And Kory knows she should be, because being anything other than friends with someone like Khari is a nad move and one she will probably regret. So ignoring the message is the best possible move, or so she tells herself.

"So should I be expecting this house to catch on fire sometime during the next few days?". Jakub's deadpan expression was followed by a playful pout as he pushed the machine into it's new permanent place. "How little faith you have in me." the Sigma says dramatically, earning yet another eyeroll from his sister as her fingers type out a quick reply for Arden, who might very well add to her speed aging.

To: Arden
MSG: You WHAT! >:(

She also doesn't miss the message from Jax, and her fingers hover over the keys for a moment, until the sound on the front door being opened. "The president is here! Where are my boys at?" Jakub gives his sister the best Cheshire grin, not willing to miss an opportunity to annoy her by calling out excessively loudly, "Your wifey is in here!". Korinna's glare is payment enough. The two walk out of the kitchen in unison, Jakub's lips stretching into a wide smile the moment he sees his big. "Damn, could you be any louder?" the Sophomore jokes, giving his big the best of high fives. Now that both Cass and Jax were here, all that was missing was Khari.

Kory also noticed, of course, and decides to split before said Sigma joins the party. It is much too early in the year to deal with conflicting emotions. "While you two go on with your little reunion, I'm gonna bounce. I've got sorority girls to take care of." she informed, sliding her cell phone into her small purse before adding. "And if the new coffee machine blows chunks, it's all Jake's fault."

Whenever Katrina patted the spot on the bed for Abigail to sit beside her, she did not hesitate to maneuver herself to do so. Abigail heard the girl's words but before responding, she decided to let Katrina take the picture of them first and could not help but chuckle at Katrina's following words. "It is the first day, I understand but more people should be here." She commented as she nodded her head. "We are the most interesting Alphas, huh? But we cannot forget Jas in our little trio though." Abigail continued as she eyed the picture and a soft smile followed towards Katrina now. "Oh, please. You know that your the one that makes the picture sparkle and shine." She complimented while feeling her own phone vibrate beside as she took her attention away from the other Alpha for a moment to see Maddox's name scroll across the screen.

"Sounds like a busy Summer." Abigail muttered as she eyed Katrina again after she liked their picture on Instagram. "Hm, mines wasn't as interesting as yours but it was good. I did not do anything exciting for real. Been saving that for this year." She responded towards her then started to type a reply towards Maddox's message from a few minutes ago.

To: Maddy :)
Sounds good to me! I'll meet you guys in the parking lot in ten.

After she sent that message and since no one else had responded to her messages yet, she stood up and walked a few feet towards Katrina's door then turned around towards her again. "So, I'm going to get my luggage with the help of Maddox and Nate. You going to be okay by yourself?" She asked then snapped her fingers as she thought about another idea. "Or you could come with me and tell me about your Sigma situation in detail." She could not help but throw that little bit in there as she already started her trek down the stairs and into the living area. But in her mind, since she was just speaking about the Sigmas, she decided to send a text towards their newly elected president, Jax. Just to see if he was on campus and to mess with him a little bit.

To: Jax

Cornelius eyed Harry as he responded to the remark about him sitting on the counter and shook his head at his reply. He continued to listen to the president of Kappa as he mentioned someone having a crush on him, along with their mother. Cornelius could not help but smirk slightly at that as he could not help but add in his own two cents. "How can someone, hell even their mother, not have a crush on you." He responded then could not help but shrug his shoulders towards him whenever he asked how he had been. "I've been all right, thanks for asking but I'm just ready to get this year started on the right track." Cornelius responded then eyed Arden as he entered the house.

He looked down at his phone that was situated on the counter and saw that he had just texted him not too long ago. Cornelius also saw that multiple people had responded to his previous messages and as everyone was focused on Arden's entrance, he decided to take the opportunity to respond the messages after sitting down his bottled water.

To: Jax & Khari
I'm only coming to hang, Khari. lol Not to join. Give me a moment and I'll be there.

It was when he was typing that message that Nick had sent him a reply that caused him to laugh a little as since he was on his way to the house, he did not even bother to reply towards him. His eyes cut towards Arden now as he walked up to him and gave him a soft hug. "What's up, hot stuff? How was your Summer?" He questioned towards him then saw Nick finally walked into the kitchen and literally pushed Arden aside and smiled brightly towards Nick. "Hey there, Nick. Also, how many times do I have to tell you that age is nothing but a number." Cornelius said with a wink towards Nick as he walked back over towards Arden now and heard something about food. "I'm honestly fine with whatever, as long as I eat something." Cornelius muttered as he lifted his shirt up a bit and rubbed his stomach.

First thing Jax saw when he walked in was three or four snakes around Cassius. The boy look irritated and Jax couldn't help gritting his teeth in an awkward smile. His snakes don't respond well to loud noises so his yelling earlier probably scared them. Cassius gave everybody a talk on how to behave when his snakes are around. Jax doesn't always follow what he says, but he'd rather start the new year on a high note. "I scared the snakes, didn't I? Sorry about that. It's nice to see the Snake King is back though! How'd your summer go?" Cassius and him were very different people, but the Jax wanted him to be happy where he's at. The two texted briefly talking about their summer, but it wasn't an everyday kind of thing, more of a once a month. "Why don't we go talk with the trouble twins in there? I'm sure they want to know too." Jax let Cassius to put his snakes away before he dragged him to the kitchen.

The sight of his little/best friend and his other best friend was a welcome sight. He missed the two and kept in touch daily with both of them. The high five between the big and little was legendary with loud smack, and a explosion like sound coming from Jax's mouth. "I can be louder, but I reserve that for the bedroom." Jax stuck his tongue and winked, mostly at Korinna. "Don't be jealous, Mrs. King. You'll always be number one." With that being said, he pulled her into a hug, picking her up off the ground to hear her squeal for a minute. All they need is Khari and River and they've got everybody!

Hearing that Korinna was going to leave, Jax pouted dramatically. "You're leaving me already. Does that mean I get Jakub and Cassius in the divorce? We can share Alea, but the boys are mine." He was sad to see her go, but being President means putting the little ones first. Blowing her a kiss goodbye, Jax checked his phone and DANG! He had a lot of texts, some surprising, but awesome. "Well boys, looks like I'm sliding into those DM's. This guy is not going solo this year." Jax replied quickly to his texts and sent a few new messages too.

Where is my favorite baker? I expect fresh cookies as payment for me having to text first. How's your summer been?

He then put his phone down and looking at Cassius and Jakub. I need to hear about your summers! Any cuties, hookups, drama! I need to know." He said dramatically.

There was nothing that River dreaded more after a long summer than going back to school to see all the people he hates. It sounded as dramatic as it was. The only reason River even went to college in the first place was because his father kept pestering him about doing something with his life. River wanted to join the Marines out of high school, but his trouble with the law resulted in some disciplinary action that wasn’t waiver-able right away. He’d need to wait a few years before attempting to enlist. So that’s what he decided to do. He’d go to college on daddy’s dime and just fuck around until graduation, and afterwards, he’d go back to the Marine recruiter and enlist. For now, though, River had to pucker up and kiss ass to make sure that his father would pay his tuition so he didn’t have shit to worry about. He even told his dad he’d go major in Business so he can learn all about the trade so he could take over for his father when the time came. River knew it was bullshit, but he didn’t care.

The plane landed in Miami about two hours ago, but River was in no rush to get to the campus. He knew people would be waiting, he knew his room would still be in the same condition he left it, so why rush? Of course, it was a short-lived thought when his phone started buzzing in his pocket. Reaching into his jeans, River pulled out his phone to see two texts from Jax, pestering him about getting to the Sigma house. River sighed audibly, rolled his eyes, and unlocked his phone to text Jax back: Plane just landed. Be there soon. With the text delivered, River shoved his phone back into his pocket, downed the lukewarm coffee he had been sipping on and stood from the outdoor seating he had chosen at a quaint cafΓ© not even 20 minutes from campus. He pulled from his pocket the keys to the rental car he had gotten from the airport. He needed a way to transport his luggage to school from the airport, otherwise he would’ve just taken an Uber to the storage unit he had left his bike in. He couldn’t wait to get back on that thing. He had fixed it up himself while he was in school; took him an entire semester last year but when he finally got her roaring again, it was all he rode.

River pulled into the rowdy neighborhood where there was nothing but Greek life and other college student housing. Already, the streets were flooded with students moving back in or moving in for the first time. The corner of his top lip rose in disgust. River pulled up by the Sigma house, pulled into a parking spot just in front of the house and stuck the car in park. He threw his head back against the seat and sighed, closing his eyes and running his hands dramatically over his face, as though he were wiping away the regret of having gone to college. He looked out the passenger side window, looking at the house that houses him for another two years and sighed once more. β€œHere we go again,” River grumbled to himself softly as he stepped out of the vehicle and locked it. He’d come back for his belongings shortly. River hesitantly walked up to the house, put his hand to the door knob, turned and pushed his way inside. β€œYo! I’m fucking here,” River called out to anyone who was home at the time. He stepped through the house, leading himself to the kitchen where he figured at least one person might be, digging through the fridge already. In there he found Jax and other members of the Sigma house. β€œSup everyone?” He said with very little excitement to his voice.

Kissing his mother on the cheek, Khari thanks her for the ride and exits her car. Grabbing his duffel bag out of the boot, Khari hastens toward the Sigma house, excitement bubbling up. Shaking his head, Khari hated that he had missed his brothers so much, but there was no denying that he was thrilled he was about to see them. Just before he arrives at the door, Khari's phone goes off and he stops to check it. Smirking at Alea & Dee's response to his text. Quickly he types a reply, looking up briefly from his phone to notice River waltzing into the Sigma house to which Khari only rolls his eyes.

To: Angel Ally / Alea, Dee Dee / Deanna, Queen Kory / Korinna
Ouch Alea, guess I'll just have to refresh your memory when I see you, which better be tonight btw. I've missed u all.

Despite Kory not responding to his text, Khari still added her in the message because it was true, he had missed them all and that included her. Sending out one more text, Khari walks toward the door as he types.

To: Ginger / Annabelle
How was your summer? Do anything fun without me?

Khari was hesitant to send this text out, which he knew he shouldn't be. He was simply asking his friend how her summer was, nothing more. Who was he kidding? Khari knew it was something more. He'd seriously missed Annabelle's cute smiles and quirky personality over the summer, which only confused his feelings for her even more. Khari knew he'd be bad news and that Annabelle is far too good for him, so Khari will never say anything to her, but he can't help to way that he feels. Which is why he sends the text with bated breath, hoping that she responds.

Shaking off his nerves, Khari thinks to himself about how stupid he's being before realising he's been standing outside the Sigma house for a solid 3 minutes now. Placing a classic grin on his face, Khari walks over to the door and bangs it open, announcing his arrival. "Daddy's home!" He yells, as he heads for the kitchen where he knew the other guys would be. As he walks in, Khari is greeted by the sight of his little absolutely covered in snakes. "Jesus little bro, sometimes I wonder if there's any helping you." He teases, giving Cassius a light punch on the shoulder that had no snake wrapped around it. Turning to the rest of the guys, Khari lifts up his arms and says, "Boys!" The laddish behaviour already beginning to set right back in. "How were your summers? I wanna hear it all." He says toward no one in particular, giving anyone the chance to step in and speak. Khari leans back against a kitchen counter, his grin only growing as he looks at each of his brother's. God fucking damn I am happy to be home Khari thinks.

Alea chuckled her friend’s excitement, welcoming another hug from her before pulling back and watching her put on her new accessories. Alea was just going to drop the whole plantain thing, there was no changing Deanna’s mind about that; she’ll just have to watch over her food like a hawk and plan to eat those as soon as possible. She could eat a couple for breakfast; if she remembers to eat breakfast, or this conversation at all.

β€œYou look amazing Dee,” She grinned bouncing on the balls of her feet now,” I thought they’d be great for your DJ gigs, though I doubt you can see through them so forget that idea.” She chuckled to herself as she helped her with tying the bracelet on. β€œWe had a lot of supplies left over from the weddings and stuff so I made quite a few things for everyone. I’m glad you like it so much,” Alea smiled once more, reflecting Deanna’s own genuine smile. Her being happy made her twice as, as with any of her friends.

Speaking of them, her phone began to chime once more, breaking whatever heartfelt moment they were having and stealing away Alea’s attention. She picked it up to see Kori was on her way back, Khari replied, and Brooks was on campus. β€œKori’s coming back and Khari wants all of us over, the idiot,” she chuckled shaking her head as she relayed the replies the two of them got in their shared group messages before replying to Brooks as well.

TO: Flirty Idiot #1/ Khari
I’m sure you can. ;)

TO: Sister Mother/ Kori
Something greasy and American. I haven’t had anything like that all summer.
I’ll give you your stuff when you come in.

TO: Siren/ Brooks
Yeah, got here a few hours ago.
I have something for you from Jamaica, though you’ll need to come down here soon so you can enjoy it.
It’ll die soon, but I got it right before I headed to the airport so we got maybe 9 or 10 hours?

Can't pussyfoot my way out of this now. She sighed, having quickly sent and put away her phone before she could question all of her life choices with what she sent Brooks, instead choosing to focus back on Deanna.

He only arched his brow towards Jax, watching him sheepishly apologize with a deadpan expression,” Oh how you flatter me, but my summer wasn’t all that exciting; quite the opposite actually. It was torturously boring. The longest 2 months of my existence.” Despite his dramatic words his face barely changed, resting in that expressionless mask he’s known for as he watches Jax from the corner of his eye. He didn’t reply at the suggestion of moving, only looking back down to his phone and was about to go back to reading, if Jax didn’t practically drag him out of his seat.

So with a sigh, Cassius gently moved his snakes back into the small containers on the coffee table before following him into the kitchen, eyes still glued to the words on his phone while the three shared their pleasantries only speaking up at the mention of his name,” I’m already planning on running away, don’t give me more incentives old man.” That’s about as close as Cassius get to playing up this strange family roleplay, those three insist on playing.

The sound of the most bitter of the Sigmas entering the house finally had Cassius give up trying to read through his story with a huff of frustration as the most excitable came in right behind making a ruckus. β€œI just got a headache,” was all he muttered in reply as River made a beeline straight to the fridge, the smallest trace of disdain in his voice as he watched him before a punch to the shoulder brought him out of it,” It’s almost like I never left England.”

He pushed his glasses back up his nose and stood up straight once more,” Shall I start us off, then? My summer was boring as all hell, went back to Rye, bought snakes in London. Nothing else out of the ordinary happened. It’s exactly what you would expect to happen.” He sped through what happened in the past few months, clipping his words to save time and move on to someone else before leaning back on the wall. β€œNext.”

Annabelle's dad looked sligtly confused by Scarlett's introduction. "It's like the buddy system in high school. We just call them sisters."

The confusion on her dad's face cleared and he shook Scarlett's hand. "Nice to meet you too Scarlett.

Annabelle took another bag from her dad. She knew better than to try and take anything back from Scarlett. It wasn't that Scarlett was vicious or controlling, or anything like that, she was just stubbornly helpful. Any protests that they could manage without her would fall on deaf ears. Scarlett had decided that she was going to help and that was what was going to happen. She grabbed another bag from the doorway. "Upstairs then?"

Annabelle bounded up the stairs and walked along the hallway until she found her room. A brief thrill ran through her when she saw she was rooming with Katiana. She dropped her backpack on the unmade bed and helped get the rest of her cases in her room. "I'll have to head off now sweetie, work needs me tomorrow."

Annabelle nodded. "Ok, sure. Don't worry about it." She wrapped her arms around him and pecked his cheek. "Thanks for driving me over."

Her dad gave her a brief squeeze before he pulled away. "Take care. and if you ever need anything, just call."

Annabelle smiled. "I think between Scarlett and Nick, I'll be fine, but I'll call when I get homesick." She looked over at Scarlett. "She's a fine upstanding member of the community. She's studying to be a doctor. I'm in very good hands," she said as she led her dad back downstairs. She could feel her phone buzzing in her pocket. She wasn't usually this popular. Her dad opened the door to the car and gave her one last peck on the cheek.

"Take care sweetie."

Annabelle rolled her eyes playfully. "I will. Drive safe." She waved him off and watched the car pull away until he turned the corner off the street. It was a bittersweet feeling watching him go and she missed him the moment his car was out of sight. She took her phone from her pocket and opened her messages. Her chest tightened for a split second when she saw the first message was from Brooks. She liked Brooks, of that she was sure. What she wasn't sure about was exactly what these feelings were. They had been friends since their freshman year and she had missed him. Being around Brooks was as easy as breathing.

To: Ocean Boy/Brooks
I'd definitely rather be drawing than unpacking. See you later?

And then there was Khari. How the hell had she gotten into this? She wasn't expecting to like anyone, at all, nevermind a senior. He was cute, really cute, and Annabelle knew she got hideously flustered when he was around.

To: Ari
Define fun. I visited some art galleries on my own. Such a rock&roll lifestyle, I know. How was your summer?

Annabelle pocketed her phone and headed back inside. She sat down on the couch next to Kat and took her plate. Annabelle propped her head on Kat's shoulder. "So, how was your summer?"

Cornelius always enjoyed mingling around his Kappa brothers but he did want to explore the campus and see the fresh meat that was upon the campus. He took another sip from his bottled water then eyed his phone Jax finally sent a text back towards him and Khari. When he sat down his bottled water on the counter and started scrolling through his phone, he started to type out a reply towards the group text that included the three of them.

To: Jax & Khari :D
Sounds good, Jax! lol I'll see if I can sneak away in a moment.

The text sent then he sat his phone down on the counter as he went back to mingle with his Kappa brothers, simply listening right now and not really interjecting into anything that was being said right now. Cornelius then turned towards his phone once it chimed again and saw Katiana name scroll across the screen as he nearly spat his water out of his mouth. With a quick grab and not even thinking to put his bottled water down, he unlocked his phone then opened up the message and even smiled a little bit while typing a reply back towards her.

To: Kat <3 :D
I honestly have to say that Summer would've been way better if you were around. ;) How was your Summer though? Anything new or exciting? lol

He sent the message then saw another message scroll past his screen from Maddox, his gym partner, his study buddy and overall male best friend. With an eye roll towards Maddox's message, Cornelius started to type a reply out towards him.

To: Maddox
If I was flirting, you'd like it. Don't even lie. lol

I'll accept a rain check this time but next time, you better accept my offer. lmao

Cornelius sent the message then grabbed his bottled water while looking up towards his brothers now. "Hey, I'll be right back." Cornelius mentioned then eyed them once more before he left, adding. "If there's something I need to do or grab before I come back, text me and let me know." With those words spoken, he left and went outside as he started a trek towards the Sigma household now.

It wasn't exactly wrong that he was going over towards their house without his own fraternity brothers knowledge since he did have some friends within the Sigmas. Luckily for him though, the walk was particularly far enough that his Kappa brothers could not really tell it was him going inside of the Sigma house, which he just walked into without a second thought. "Jax! Khari! I'm here for the ceremony!" Cornelius couldn't help but joke towards the duo as he walked further inside of the house now, seemingly checking out some of the other Sigmas that were lounging around. "Where the hell are you guys?" Cornelius questioned softly as while he walked around, his eyes also gazed around at their lovely home. It wasn't the Kappa house but it was kind of close enough.

Kory had managed to slip out of the Sigma house before too many of the boys showed up. God knows that if they had all caught her there, she would have never been able to leave. As much as she didn't mind being around the wild pack of wolves, she had her own children to take care of. Being president was no easy task. Not that she ever expected to be.

As fate would have it, Kory received the responses from Alea and Deanna just as she was stepping out of her car and walking her way into the Five Guys location closest to campus. The girls wanted fattening and greasy, and one could never go wrong with a massive burger and fries. She couldn't help but feel a tad bit proud about guessing what her girls would want before they even said a thing. Thankfully, the place wasn't too packed, and miss president was able to get a ridiculous amount of burgers, fries, drinks and even a few desserts to accommodate for all taste buds. After what felt like an eternity, she was back in front of the Zeta estate. She smiled at the sight, already expecting the loudest, most extra welcome possible from her favorite girls on earth.

"Hello! Mama's here, and she brought greasy food!" the senior announced, her eyes scavenging her surroundings as she made her way to the kitchen to set down all the goods before she ended up dropping half of it. "Where are my welcome back hugs?" she called out again, assuming the girls would be in one of the rooms. She hoped they would hear her, otherwise she would have to go room to room to bring them all down herself. She paused for a moment, a large cup of Coke in her hand, while the other type out a quick reply to Nari's last text.

To: Nari <3
MSG: The door is always open for you babygirl :) and you've got some greasy fast food waiting for ya!

Her eyes glazed over a couple of names, stopping for a moment to respond to Arden before the group text between herself, Lea, Dee and Khari came into view. After a too-long pause, her thumb tapped away at the screen, deeming it safe to send Khari a response now, though she paused again before sending the second message.

To: Arden
MSG: Had to, my ass. You're lucky I'm occupied with the girls right now or you would be getting a mouthful!
MSG: Wat r u doing later tonight?

To: Khari
MSG: It's the first day back, please don't encourage my brother into any trouble 2day.
MSG: I guess I missed you a little :P

If Jake said he didn't feel like he was between a rock and a hard place, he would be a liar. He had already told Kat he was heading over to the Theta house, but he didn't want to leave his boys, as much as he never would admit he had an itching need to see his best friends for reasons he didn't quite feel like diving into at the moment. But it had been an entire summer away from sigma, and despite all the sarcastic comments and cheeky insults he often threw their way, he really did miss the wild bunch.

"Sorry to break it to you, old man, but if you and Kori divorce I'm sticking with her." the sophomore said, cheeky smirk in place. His elbow moved up to rest on Cassius', crystal blue eyes focused on his senior. "n' I'm taking Cass with me." his attention was brought out of their little pretend family life by Khari and River's arrivals. Jakub couldn't help but chuckle to himself at how completely opposites their entrances were. How one place such as this ended up housing so many different personalities was beyond him. ” Shall I start us off, then? My summer was boring as all hell, went back to Rye, bought snakes in London. Nothing else out of the ordinary happened. It’s exactly what you would expect to happen. Next”

Jakub let out a soft snort as his feet took his across the spacious kitchen, right up to their fridge. "You've sure got a way with words, Cass. Ever thought of writing a novel?" he teased, as he normally did anytime Cassius was around, meanwhile his blue orbs searched every inch of the fridge for something good to eat. His mind traveled back to Katiana's invitation. And let's face it, getting good food wasn't his only reason for wanting to go, but it was the only reason he would be giving the Sigma boys in hopes of avoiding their usual unnecessary comments about his and Kat's relationship. "I'm gonna dip for a bit, boys. I've got some free food waiting for me at the Theta's."

To: Kat
MSG: Any food left? I'm vry hungry n having some serious Kat withdraws.

The laughing and brotherhood between all the guys was amazing. He hadn't had a chance to see any of them over the summer. His grandfather needed his advice on a public relations disaster. Apparently, a person's room wasn't clean properly, which was their fault. The worst part was someone recorded a screaming match between the concierge and this customer. It was a disaster on both ends and, but, thanks to Jax, the whole incident blew over. The rest of his summer was helping the family with the hotel. It was great getting to jet back between California, New York, and many other places, but he missed everybody at Fulton.

He didn't pay too much attention as Korinna left. River and Khari had just arrived and that meant everyone was here! He made sure to give both of them a big hug. He was an affectionate guy and they've gotten used to it by now. "Summer has been crazy for me, my bros. Traveling everywhere at once and constant work. I missed this place, though." When Jakub mentioned leaving to go to Sigma, Jax went on a crazy story about how he had to explain how he was randomly selected for a pat down at by the TSA and how the girl doing it was crazy hot. The story was more to distract the other guys. Some of the brothers, including Jax, liked to give his little a hard time over his crush on a certain Theta sophomore. Jax gave his little a wink as he went out the door.

With his little spared from unnecessary teasing, Jax checked his phone when one of the guys went into a story about his drunk streaking got him arrested over the summer. Jax heard it earlier and needed to check back with his lovely ladies.

To: My Juliet / Katrina
You know you liked it. Plus, security must not be that tight. That little x on the end means a kiss. :3
Speaking of kisses... What are you doing tonight?

To: Songbird / Nari
I will gladly knock whoever's ass down if they mess with one of my girls. Need some TLC? ;)

To: Sugar Queen / Eliza
Same girlie! All work no play for this guy over the summer. As for the cookies, I need yours to survive. You want me to suffer? I thought we were besties.

To: Baby Momma #1 / Deanna
I can keep biiiihhh, but I lack the equipment you like. I'll settle for being the sperm donor though! ;P Sugar and Baby Daddy sounds sweet lol

River's text from him didn't need a response, but Jax made sure to slide up next to him. Jax and River were pretty similar background wise. They had successful families and a business destined for them to work for. The biggest difference was the lack of love in their households. Jax was lucky to have a good family and River wasn't so. Jax would've flew him out to stay with this summer, but didn't want to abandon River so that he could work. The boy is coming home with him for the holidays though. Jax will fight for it. He laid his head on River's shoulder, making a funny face at him. The boy needed to laugh more. Jax kept making faces when he suddenly heard, "Jax! Khari! I'm here for the ceremony! Where the hell are you guys?" Cornelius mentioned coming over, but he didn't know it would be so soon. He was always welcome at Sigma, but the bad blood between Cornelius and River was not welcome. Jax's eyes flew to Khari, sending him worried eyes. He tried to slyly make Khari go to Cornelius first. Jax had a better handle on River than Khari so maybe they could keep the peace for a while if they could keep the two separated. "So my favorite River, tell me all about the trouble we can get into this year. I've got a few pranks planned. Also, any food suggestions for dinner tonight? I'm thinking Mexican." Please don't notice my stalling.

SATURDAY AUGUST 26TH || BACK-TO-SCHOOL BONFIRE || 9:15 PM
The significance of the Fulton University Back-to-School bonfire was that it was originally meant for one to cast into the flames the troubles of the year before; whatever it was that one felt was holding them back, whether it be a relationship they couldn't let go of on their own or anxieties that crippled them academically when all one needed to do was have faith, it needed to be thrown into flames. It was supposed to bring relief and that relief was found in throwing away the jacket an ex gave you or even a bracelet from a friendship you thought would never end. Don't let the alcohol and tomfoolery fool you. It was supposed to mean something and to some, it still does.

Nevertheless, each year the bonfire is hosted at the estate of an undisclosed sponsor - some believe it is an alumna, but until proven otherwise, take advantage of being in a mansion that most won't ever actually afford, #sorrynotsorry - where the beach property is mostly used for celebrations. Students also like to occupy the spacious home as there is a DJ inside, as well as inside, and food. Most have already arrived at this annual festive event filled with drunken hook-ups, wild dancing, tricks and the like while others are still on the way. At the end of the day, though, it's very rare that a night like this doesn't end in a fight or two, especially with the Greek organizations in attendance...

Khari had spent the entirety of his night talking to and catching up with all of his friends, not only was he filled in on all his brothers shenanigans but Cornelius came over which was nice because even though he wasn't an official Sigma, Khari always thought he was far more Sigma material than he's ever been Kappa material. But alas there seemed to be nothing Khari could do to change his friends mind, so he simply enjoyed the guys company instead. The tales he was told about everyone's summers both made Khari chuckle and also, in some cases, even managed to shock him because of the things his friends managed to get themselves into.

It wasn't until the early hours that Khari finally called it a night and said adios to his buddies. Heading off to bed, he had been meaning to send out a few more texts but as soon as he lay down Khari fell straight asleep.

Khari didn't wake up until 12pm the next afternoon and had spent much of his time in his joggers and a white tee, chilling around the house. He knew he didn't have to go out until the evening, which was when the bonfire would take place, so he felt no need to hurry out of his comfy clothes. More holiday stories were shared and a lot more laughter occurred before Khari looked at the clock and realised it was getting closer and closer to the time they were supposed to be leaving.

It wasn't until seven that Khari finally began to actually get ready. He jumped in the shower, shaved and got dressed into a casual, yet very much so his style, outfit for the evening. Spraying himself with a little aftershave, Khari winks at his reflection before deciding to check on how the other guys were getting on. He had just assumed that they would all be going up together as a frat.

Walking down the hallway that led him to Jax's room, Khari stopped a few steps from his friend's door to send out a couple text, just to make sure that everyone he wanted to see and catch up with would be going tonight.

To: Angel / Alea
You & your girls coming tonight? Wouldn't be a party without the Zetas ;)

To: Ginger / Annabelle
Sucks we didn't get to catch up last night. Hang @ the bonfire?

To: Queen Kory / Korinna
Saw you'd bailed before I got to the Sigma house :/ See you tonight?

Happy with those messages, Khari hits send and continues on his way to the Sigma president's room. Knocking loudly, Khari calls out "Hey pretty boy, you ready yet?" Leaning his shoulder against the doorframe as he waits for a response - most likely one just as snarky as his own. Khari and Jax had been friends for quite a long time now and had a very particular, and very sarcastic, way of talking to each other.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Jax literally rolled out of his bed when his alarm clock went off. He groaned as he lifted his head from the floor. NINE A.M! "What the hell kind of- shit." He completely forgot he volunteered to help with the freshman orientation. Normally, he would have slept until A. He finally woke up or B. One of the boys woke him up. These freshman orientations were lame as hell, but housing gave bonus in pay if anyone from their office helped with the event. Jax's family wasn't desperate for cash, but Jax would rather wake up at 9 to help with some event than ask his Mom, and especially not his Dad. Jax made quick work of changing into one of his school T-shirts and some jeans before leaving for the school's amphitheater. Hopefully, the freshman wouldn't suck as much as last year.
~
Nope, they are even worse this year. He understands that directions in a new place can be challenging, but when the same freshman comes back FIVE TIMES TO GO TO THE SAME PLACE... It riled Jax's nerves. If it was a girl trying to be cute in asking then that's cool, but that kid was dumb as rocks. Returning to the house was amazing! Jax just chilled in the living room of the house, besting most the few members at Call of Duty. It was a good bonding experience and the holiday stories these young bucks shared were spectacular. Whether it be because they were stupid stories, funny stories, or a combination, the new guys seemed to be prime Sigma members.

It was around six when Jax decided to finally get ready for bonfire. Some of the guys laughed when he said he wanted to get ready early, but Jax reminded them that good appearances get the girls, or boys, to pay attention. It was comical how their eyes grew before the little newbies rushed off to prepare. Jax took a shower, in his private bathroom, before debating on what to wear. It was going to be near a beach and the house had a pool so swim trunks were the smart approach. However, it was unlikely he'd go into the water. Jax isn't shy so he could just strip if he felt like getting wet. He choose a comfy pair of jeans, his slide sandals (which were popular for it's litness), and a black tank. Jax added a yellow flannel, because why not? Plus, gotta rep those Greek colors! He dabbed some cologne on before sending out a few messages to his special people.

To: My Juliet / Katrina
I hope I get to see you tonight. I might have to steal you away. :3

To: Shoulda Been Sigma / Cornelius
Ready to party Sigma style?

To{Group Text}: Songbird / Nari, Baby Momma #1 / Deanna, Future Mrs. King / Korinna, Baby Lee
The lovely ladies of Zeta better show themselves! I expect the best of my favorite sorority!

Satisfied with his messages, Jax checked himself over one last times. "Hey pretty boy, you ready yet?" Jax snickered at his best friend's remark. It wasn't common for any of the guys to be sarcastic with him, but Khari was the only one to get away with it regularly. "I'm glad you know who's the better looking one!" Jax hollered back. He'd pay for that remark later, but tonight was a time for a party! Jax opened his door and took a second to check him out. "Although, I'm not the only hot one tonight." Jax winked then wiggled his eyebrows at Khari before heading down the stairs to the entryway. While Jax is only interested in the opposite sex, he doesn't mind flirting with his own. It gets him in trouble some times, but it's just his personality. "I was thinking we could load up my car with us, Jake, Cass, and River then head out. Sound good?"

In all honesty, Katiana shouldn’t be nervous. She had already dealt with first party of the year jitters last year and should have already developed some kind of immunity to them. These parties weren’t that different from the ones Jake had managed to talk her into before they had even gotten to college; there were just more adultier young adults now and there was less of a concern that things would get shut down because there were more minors than legal adults. So, no, that wasn’t what heightened her anxiety. It wasn’t even the fact that she was approaching the Sigma house. If Jake was at a place and he wanted her there, best believe she was going there, regardless of who had what to say about it. But still, there was a difference between going to the Sigma house simply to hang out or wait for a friend to come out, and going to the Sigma house wearing pretty much a see-through get-up with a bikini underneath.

It honestly shouldn’t have bothered her much. Kat was pretty accustomed to not bothering to wear more than simple crop top or even bralette as the top for the day because she couldn’t be bothered with her usual timidity, or even under an open bomber just because the mood struck. However, at the moment, she couldn’t tell whether it was because she was anxious for Jake’s reaction or simply her being self-conscious with exposing a bit more than she would unless dance was involved. So, she made sure to text Jake as she approached the front door of the Sigma house, the sound of her sandals startlingly louder than the whoops or cheers she could hear from across campus from students getting ready to leave for the bonfire.

To: Jake
Im outside. Want me 2 get uber?

Just as Katiana saw the message was sent and had reached the Sigma porch, a pair of older Sigmas - seniors, if she remembered correctly - opened the front door and would’ve probably went about their business in exiting, but actually held the door for her. ”After you, babe,” the taller of the two said and Kat gave a small, appreciative smile as she entered the house. And chose obstinately to ignore the feeling that someone was staring at her from behind when the guys finally left and the door closed behind her. Jake just needed to come on, so they could leave and she could get the drink she was probably going to regret come morning.

Jakub rarely ever gave his outfits much thought. He was no fashionista, and though he more often than not managed to look like a full-course meal, it wasn’t because he actually tried. So ultimately, getting ready for the bonfire took all of twenty minutes. Fifteen, really, if you didn’t count the times he stopped to read or respond to text messages. Believe it or not, it had been awhile since Jake had been to an actual, legitimate party. The buzz of the excitement felt nice, and something he missed greatly. He could already hear the excitement of other students echoing throughout the streets and he promptly got to his feet, his footsteps taking him out of his room and into the hallway.

His original destination was the kitchen, but he stopped abruptly when the chime of a new message was heard. Somehow, he already knew who it was from before even needing to open it.

From: Kat
MSG: Im outside. Want me 2 get uber?

He smiled at his phone screen, quickly typing out a reply before he reached his big’s door, where Khari was already poised and attempting to get the king out of his royal chambers.

To: Kat
MSG: Yes please :) On my way down

His smile quickly evaporated the moment he reached Khari, his eyes glancing over his senior before moving closer to the closed door. ”Jax, get your ass out here already. You’re going to look hideous no matter what you wear.”. After adding in his two cents, he gave Khari a quick nod. ”I'll meet you boys at the bonfire, I'm taking an uber with Kat.” he announced with a subtle smirk before continuing his way down to met his best friend. Every step feeling heavier than the other. This was all still so new to Jake, unexpected, and it completely threw off his groove. So much so that any phrase or word he planned on saying completely froze in the back of his throat the moment his eyes met Kat’s figure. ”Uh-” he came to a halt just a couple of feet away, looking over her for all of five seconds before his gaze switched to the two SIgma’s hovering by the front door. He frowned immediately, eyes instinctively narrowing in their general direction. ”What are you two looking at? Move along!”

Kat probably had to glance upwards twice when she heard someone bound down the stairs, but the third time was the charm because soon enough, Jake had arrived. That alone was enough to make her beam up at him...until she noted his expression. ”Wh-what?” She asked, looking down at her outfit for a brief moment before her eyes rose back to his. The self-consciousness crept back into her belly, sending a flutter of nervousness she could feel all the way to her toes. It didn’t help when Jake snapped at the two Sigmas that Kat honestly thought had left already. The awareness of their presence made her skin prickle. ”Think this is a bit much? I guess, I could change, yeah?”

Jakub bit his lower lip to keep from saying anything else to the Sigma pair as they exited the house. They hadn’t done anything really. At the very least not a thing that any normal male wouldn’t do, but something about it irked Jake to the moon and back. The thought of other guys looking at Katiana in that certain way made his skin itch. Because she was like a sister...or so he had to tell himself over and over again. He had the right to be protective, and he had convinced himself that his reasons were valid, even if they weren’t true. ”Nah” he finally responded, the right side of his lips quirking upward into his signature half-smile Kat had probably come to know very well by now. ”You’ll just have to deal with your bodyguard, Jakub, for the rest of the night.” he added. He glanced over his shoulder, making sure there was no Sigma eavesdropping on their conversation, or he would surely never hear the end of it later. ”And if you’re going to go home with some asshole, you better make sure he gets my permission first!” he stated, though what he really wanted to say remained in his throat. You better not be going home with any guy unless it’s me.

Traitorously, Kat’s pulse fluttered when Jake gave his signature smile, which was more devastating than it had the right to be. Quietly swallowing down any instinct to actually appraise his appearance for the night because honestly, Kat was having enough of a struggle as it was with his display of protectiveness making her just a touch giddy, she only rolled her eyes at him, grinning. ”Yeah, whatever,” she replied cheekily, biting her lower lip as she set to ordering their uber. Once things were selected, she added, ”Uber’ll be here in five minutes. We should head outside. Got everything?” Kat wouldn’t be herself if she hadn’t brought one of her smaller bags. It was big enough to fit a towel inside along with her charger, and a few other essentials that could help any of her friends even if they didn’t help her. Let it be said that Kat never didn’t come prepared, even if it meant toting around a handbag at a party.

Jakub chuckled softly at the sound of the question, because Kat already knew he wasn’t the type to carry around anything aside from his cell phone. And even that sometimes was abandoned somewhere. ”No, I don’t.” he said, casually sliding an arm around Kat’s shoulders to turn her in the direction of the Sigma house’s front door. Even if the action made his heart pause for a fraction of a millisecond, he surely didn’t show it. ”But I’m pretty sure you do, so let’s go.” he urged, hoping to get out of the house before any of the other boys caught up to them. As much as he loved them all, anytime Kat was around, they were known to be a bit much. They could catch their own uber to the party if they wanted to. The weather out was perfect for the occasion. Jakub noticed as soon as they set foot outside the large estate. He turned to Kat, lips poised to make another comment about how he would beat any guy’s ass that even attempted to look at her the wrong way, but a soft chime coming from his phone stopped him. Jakub wasn’t in the least bit surprised to find it was a message from Kory.

His lips quirked upwards as he read before turning his attention back to Kat. ”Kory’s already warning me about not starting any trouble. I can be responsible, ya know?” Katiana giggled then, more than comfortable under his arm. Too comfortable, if you asked her on a bad day, or asked the swarm of butterflies that decided that her stomach was the perfect location for their new residence. But at the moment, she decided to bask in it since she was sure any other girl who wanted Jake would, leaning into him as they headed out. Without wanting to, Kat found herself admiring the side of her face just a little when Jake’s attention was diverted to his phone, smile softer on her face than it had no reason to. She couldn’t help it. Besides, she might have been pathetically obvious to anyone else, but at least not to him. That would be mortifying.

At his question, she playfully put on a thinking face, tapping her lower lip while she was at it before inquiring cheekily, ”I mean, yeah, but what’d be my purpose if not to help make sure you stay responsible?” Her own phone chimed then and Kat glanced down, brow furrowing just slightly when she noted the information Uber provided. ”Uber said we’re pulling with a guy named Brian. He’s getting picked up around here somewhere, shouldn’t be that much longer,” she said it with a lilt of optimism, but there was a disappointment underneath that Kat couldn’t exactly deny.

Picking Uberpool was the cheaper option and it always came with the risk that she’d have to ride with another individual who possibly had a guest, but the gamble was usually worth it. It seemed, though, that now that she actually wanted to enjoy the ride without unnecessary others, either Uber or - as her brain dramatically supplied - the universe was against her. She could deal, sure, but she had liked the idea of them riding out together and it just being her and Jake. With how busy her schedule seemed like it would be, and how much the Sigmas usually got into during the school year from what she saw last year, some part of her feared that they wouldn’t have many times where their schedules lined up. Kat wasn’t dependent on Jake’s presence, but she loved it. He was her best friend and even if a very loud, very traitorous part of her wanted more, being her best friend meant longing for alone just as she would occasionally want when it came to Annabelle or Alea.

Surely Jakub hadn’t meant to pout, he truly didn’t, but a small. (or rather large) part of him was instantly bummed by the announcement that he and Kat wouldn’t be riding to the bonfire alone. He quickly switched the pout into an expression of skepticism. ”Brian, huh? I don’t like him already.” the sigma muttered, his thumbs hovering over the keys as he contemplated whether to send a response Kory’s way or not. Call him over-protective, or what Jakub’s own mind refused to call it, jealousy, but he couldn’t help but imagine all the different ways this ride with β€œBrian” could go. He slipped his phone back to his pocket, eyebrows knitting together as he pointed a warning finger towards Kat’s face. ”If he so much as looks at you the wrong way, I’ll chop off an arm.” his voice was low, but playful, letting Kat know that he wasn’t being serious. At least not entirely, even if he did throw a couple more warnings her way before the Uber finally arrived.

Kat snorted and replied, sarcastic, ”Yeah, sure you will big guy.” She ignored the way Jake’s proclamation made her heart skip a beat by exiting out of the Uber app to get to her snapchat, tapping the screen so that they were the ones in the screen and not the surrounding scenery. ”Say hi to snap, Jake,” she demanded grinningly, moving the camera goofily while making a face. ”On our way to the bonfire,” she quickly announced to the screen and added, jerking her head in Jake’s direction, ”Gonna see how long this jerk right here abandons me for the rest of the night.” The smirk on her face remained playful, but Kat was definitely going to post everything on snapchat just because she knew the face Jake was going to make due to her words would be too amusing for her not to have on some form of social media.

Soon enough, a dark blue Honda CR-V pulled up just as her phone chimed that their Uber was approaching, and Katiana exclaimed, ”Oh cool, right on time.” A moment later, and she pondered aloud, peering up at Jakub, ”Do you know who’s already there?” She could already see the outline of another being in the backseat from outside of the tinted windows, which made her smile dim just a bit. She wasn’t exactly over her disappointment, after all. Nevertheless, she pulled the back door open, confirmed that she was the one who had summoned the Uber and that her driver was who he was, before beginning to climb into it, anxious to get the ride over with.

Annabelle stared at the clock on her bedside table, not quite registering what the numbers were telling her. It was afternoon...maybe? Close to the afternoon. She rolled over and checked her phone. 14:28 was the time the clock was telling her. That was way into the afternoon. Annabelle sighed and fell back into her pillow. In hindsight, staying up way into the small hours with Kat just talking, and drinking a lot of tea, wasn't their smartest move. Fun, but not smart. At least classes haven't started yet.

Annabelle swung her legs over the side of the bed and slowly sat up. The afternoon light filtered in through a gap in the curtains. Annabelle saw her phone was blank and tucked it back under her pillow and wiped the sleep from her eyes. She stretched out and grabbed her towel and shampoo and headed to the shower room. Annabelle sighed as the hot water hit her shoulders, easing the stiffness that had come from the car journey yesterday. She lost track of how much time she had spent in the shower, but she didn't emerge until she smelled of oranges and grapefruit.

With a few hours to kill, Annabelle propped a small canvas up in the corner of the room. Annabelle looked out of her window. The sky was blue and clear, and cold. Blue and purple were squeezed onto a palette and began splashing colour onto the canvas. Great bold spirals and swipes of colour adorned the canvas. When the canvas was covered, she stood back and picked up a new paintbrush and went back in, building a picture that she could see in her mind.

She sighed and dropped her paintbrush back into the beaker. Her phone buzzed behind her and she picked her phone up.

From: Ocean Boy
I'll see you at the bonfire? Us artists have to stick together!

To: Ocean Boy
Like I would dare miss you.

There was a knock at the door and Annabelle looked over her shoulder as Scarlett came in. Annabelle was pretty sure that she had paint smears on her face and hands, it usually happened. "Hey girls! Do you need any help getting ready for tonight? Or maybe a ride?"

"I dunno, I probably need to wash up again. A ride would probably be good."

Her phone buzzed again. It was a text from Khari.

From: Khari
Sucks we didn't get to catch up last night. Hang @ the bonfire?

I'll see you there

The rest of the night was a blur honestly. She remembered Kori coming home and eating a lot of greasy food, everyone sharing their stories about the summer and Alea giving the rest of her sisters their gifts she brought back with her. What she doesn't remember is when she actually got to her bed once more. All she knows i that she woke up not wanting to move; and so she didn't. She drifted between sleep and consciousness for what felt like hours before her bladder screamed at her to get up and even then she sat in her bed for another 20 minutes before actually getting up and wandering to the bathroom.

By the time she was out of the bathroom it was... pretty late. She had to squint her eyes to focus on the clock on her phone, to make sure she didn't read it long. 3:30 huh? Good thing she didn't have classes or anything. Was there anything happening today actually? She honestly couldn't remember at first, but the texts piling up in her phone reminded her real quick.

From: Flirty Idiot #1
You & your girls coming tonight? Wouldn't be a party without the Zetas ;)

From: King
The lovely ladies of Zeta better show themselves! I expect the best of my favorite sorority!

From: Siren
See ya at the bonfire? I need my favorite Zeta!

Oh yeah the bonfire, she almost forgot that was going on. Her bed seemed more attractive at the moment than socializing and potentially running into people she rather not talk to. But getting to dance with her friends and not having to worry about her
family trying to set her up with one of them quickly won out.

To: Flirty Idiot #1/ Khari
Msg: You're right it wouldn't be. Make sure to save me a dance~

To: King/ Jax
Msg: Of course! wouldn't dream on missing it.

To: Siren/ Brooks
Msg: Yep! I'll be there.
Msg: We both forgot the present it seems.
Msg: I was going to give you a thing of Luminous Lagoon water but it's stopped glowing.
Msg: Good thing I made something in case that happened.

She would bring everyone's gifts with her there and give them out there but a bonfire is not the place to be giving out gifts. They could get lost, or worse, destroyed. She'll just have to remember to hand them out later. Ugh, remembering... not her strong suit. With nine hours to kill, Alea spent most of the time combing her hair still tangled from sleeping while watching videos online and snacking before getting ready. She took her time, lounging in the bath and singing to herself while she did her makeup; nothing much seeing as it would be night and she'll be next to a fire, but some gloss and liner. She didn't think too much about her clothes either, just a black bralette bikini and shorts with a much too large black mesh shirt and wedges. It was something simple that she would usually wear on the island so she saw nothing wrong with it for a bonfire.

By the time she was ready it was 20 minutes before the shuttles left, and while she could probably ask one of her sisters for a ride, she'd rather have a few more minutes to her sober self before she got illegally wasted. Her head bobbed to the music blasting from her earplugs, as she scrolled through her phone deciding on texting Kat who texted her during her food coma.

Katty/ Katiana
Msg: Hey girl! I'm great!
Msg: Sorry for the late reply. I died for a moment there.
Msg: I hope my lovely Kat comes to the bonfire~

The sun was already setting by the time Cassius left his room. He's been up since noon tending to his snakes and reading at his desk, lounging in one of his suits as always. He knew today was the bonfire and while he should've been looking through his plethora of suits to find something suitable for a beach bonfire and mansion he was sitting there...killing time in leisure. There was no reason for it. He could very well stress and waste his energy and patience looking for clothes, but he decided to relax and save all that up for the people he will have to rub elbows with. How draining. Still, he was going to go. He was still hindered by the frustration of home to not go and look for a little thing to relieve himself, and who was he to turn down a chance of some fun?

When he did finally leave his room, he made a beeline for the shower, before taking his time again, the water going cold by the time he left the stall, before once again retreating in his room. The lack of an adjoint bathroom was frustrating at best. There wasn't much he had in his closet that would fit into the theme this party had so he didn't even bother looking into it and went straight to the drawers to pull out his more rarely worn clothes before settling on a simple pale and colorful striped button up and linen shorts in case he felt like swiming; definitely not his usual attire but not bad.

By the time he walked out into the hall, the other boys were finishing up too Jax and Khari bantering in the president's doorway with Jake leaving in quite a fluster. "Yes girls, you're both pretty. Are you going to sleep together or shall we find more participants?" He butted in arching a brow over the rim of his glasses before continuing to the living room," four out of five will be carpooling them; unless River also decides to find his own ride."
