When Domonique Malone went off to attend University of Cambridge, the last thing her mother ever expected was for her to drop out of school midway because she was pregnant with one of her professor's baby. Rashida Malone-Bell was not a happy camper when that happened and sent for her daughter's return to Barbados where Naomi would be born nine months later. After her birth, it was evident that Domonique still needed to continue her education, so she was allowed to go back to school under the stipulation that she returned home for every break and that every paycheck she earned while in school would be split in half so that her daughter's care would be financed. Not that Rashida had ever had a problem with providing for her grandchild. From the day she was born, Naomi developed a closeness with her grandmother that has since been unmatched, which lent to a lot of petty jealousies from Domonique in the later years of her child's life. However, during those blissful six years, Naomi was her grandmother's baby and if she wasn't simply helping out (with her tiny hands) in the kitchen cooking meals for their small community on those Fridays after work, she was at the church belting out old hymnals whenever her Nana played the organ.
A little after her sixth birthday, Domonique decided that she wanted to permanently stay in England, particularly High Wycombe. Naomi's father wanted nothing to do with them and Rashida knew that the two would need help. After some careful deliberation and a heavy heart, she decided to leave her home to make sure that her grandchild was being taken care. When she considered the latter, she hadn't actually believed she would be as in control of that matter as she had been. Despite being a mother and having those responsibilities, Domonique still wanted to party. She wanted to have her fun and be out all late and in order for Naomi to not see the recklessness, Rashida stepped up to the plate. In her young eyes, her mother had always been more of an older sister anyway, so it never surprised her when Nana would sit Domonique down for lectures or when the two would be engaged in a heated debate. It wasn't until Naomi was around thirteen when things came to a boiling point and Domonique walked out the door and never turned around. On one hand, after that, Rashida could have brought Naomi back to Barbados with the ever-present sun and tropical weather. At the same time, she had always been passionate about giving her granddaughter a fine education and England had been good. America had family members and schools she could afford that were still great for Naomi. So, they moved there, not really sure where Domonique had gone.
It wasn't until Naomi was fifteen that she saw her mother again. By then, her grandmother and distant relatives had nourished and cultured her. She had played the piano and learned to sing at a young age. She worked small jobs to pay for her dance lessons, and her Nana never let her leave the table to watch television or do much of anything if all of her homework was not complete. Naomi was strong, smart, and had a little mouth on her that could get her out and in of trouble, with hands that could back her up if needed. However, when her mother returned with bruises all over her body and after having two miscarriages because of a marriage that should have never happened in the first place, Naomi took that as a lesson: she shouldn't allow herself to be as vulnerable as her mother had. It left the woman bruised and broken, both physically and emotionally, and Naomi didn't want that. So, she concentrated on her schooling and graduated when she was sixteen. Some part of her was ecstatic about attending an HBCU; she had never been sold on the idea of a 'fine education' coming from a PWI. However, upon receiving Fulton's financial aid package and actually seeing the community for herself, she was kinda sold. Becoming a Zeta came naturally; she found that she was much more rowdier and maybe even a tad bit reckless when not under her grandmother's thumb. The difference, however, between herself and her mother is evident: Naomi has a plan for her life and she's not willing to allow anyone to stop her.
▪Always seems to smell like shea butter and vanilla. ▪Is almost always twirling her fingers in her hair, particularly when it is left in its naturally curly state. ▪Talks with her hands a lot. ▪When angry, she goes from English to Bajan (a mixture of English and Barbadian dialect that not most English speakers understand) and back to English without even realizing it. ▪Can almost always be seen munching on something, whether it be M&Ms or gum. ▪Prays every morning before she goes off on her merry little way. ▪Hums when cooking ▪When she is in a conversation, her stare is unwavering to that particular individual as if she is giving them her full and undivided attention, even if they aren't interesting to her. ▪Spends at least three hours every first Saturday of every month doing a moisture-reconstruction of her hair so that it retains its softness. ▪Cannot sit still in a chair for too long and has to move positions (ie. crossing one leg over the other and back again). ▪Always uses a cake-batter flavored gloss and lip balm. ▪Quirks her lips to the side when she hears something she doesn't like. ▪Has an English accent.
Greatest Joys In Life
▪Her number one greatest joy, even above music, is having her Nana. Her grandmother raised her when her mother would not and Naomi feels undoubtedly grateful of that unconditional love. She loves spending time with the older woman, calling her every Sunday after church, and seeing her grandmother's face first whenever she gets on a plane ride back to D.C. ▪Music is what has sustained Naomi's family for as long as she could remember. Her grandmother first got her involved when she was little and the older woman would play the piano during Sunday services. Eventually, it led to Naomi singing and then to her dancing and playing the piano herself. It's just something about the way the smooth tones can move her that she just can't help but feel at ease. ▪Spending time with friends because of regardless of their differences, her friends are her friends. Nothing changes that. So, if her crew wanted to chill and watch movies or even play video games, she's down. If there's a party, you know she's dragging everyone with her. ▪If there was any way to move her heart, knowing good place where milkshakes are made would be the first place to start. Her favorite is anything with peanut butter. ▪Connecting with people is something that she cherishes. Whether it is on a spiritual, emotional or even an intellectual level, Naomi loves those interactions. She learns from them and some people can be downright inspiring.
Greatest Fears
▪Falling prey to the same type of love life her mother had. ▪Going through life without having really made her mark or done some good. ▪Losing her voice ▪Death, or rather, the unknown of death (ie. Will it hurt? Will she feel it?) ▪The day her grandmother dies ▪Sexual assault

Life Philosophy
“It isn't what you have or who you are or where you are or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about it.” - Dale Carnegie
"If you ever see me in class, you know that I'm always questioning things and why they are the way that they are. I think about everything - I take EVERYTHING in, even if people don't think I am. I think about peace, I think about equality. I think about Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, and all those kids who won't get the chance to grow up. I think about a world where we aren't silenced. I think about a world that I can actually be happy in and that makes me happy."
Anyone who knows her will tell you - Naomi is a great ball of energy with a never-ending supply of happiness and sass. She has to be. If she's going to be one of the personalities on the campus' radio, then she needs to be able to engage people and engaging is definitely a label you can place this Zeta under. One thing is to be said is that Naomi doesn't things for attention nor is she the bubbly sort that is just practically bouncing on their toes like a toddler. She can be quite down-to-earth and mellow when the time comes. However, Naomi is also one who can never simply stay off her feet for too long. She needs to move, that's what her Nana taught her. Whether that means she is prancing around the Zeta house's kitchen dancing to Beyoncé or simply rocking in her seat in class to music that no one else can hear, it's very obvious that she is a lively character and along with that animated characteristic comes an individual who very easily be a good person to simply get to know. Naomi loves getting to know people. She doesn't hesitate in large crowds and she's definitely not afraid to be at the center of attention. Granted, this has left some pretty interesting things to be said about her. For instance, she can come off as simply this bubbly sweetheart and her continued presence at mostly every party on and off campus leave others thinking she doesn't take things seriously. However, there is only a thin line between Nomi and Naomi and the two are so irrevocably intertwined that it's hard for anyone to try to make the distinction between the two. Nomi is your DJ at the party. She is the girl who can compete with the best of them at drinking, even though she knows she'll fail. Nomi dances to every song and probably has a routine planned out. Nomi is even the girl you wish you had, casting sultry looks over her shoulder that leave you begging for more. And then there's Naomi and it's important to note that while the aforementioned line is thin, it is very much still there.
For Naomi, once Nomi is on a break or is simply waiting in the background, is a fairly intelligent and remarkably conscious individual as it pertains to the society in which she lives. Regardless of how completely passed out she was after coming back from that party at Matthew's or who she was flirting with at the club last night, Naomi will gladly set all of that aside to enlighten you. Because of her party girl persona, it is sometimes hard to remember that Naomi doesn't have a 4.0 simply out of thin air. No, she has worked for it and has worked for a lot of things her entire life. She applied for two jobs during her freshman year and still found time to do both her homework and get her party on. And even still, her grades don't equate to the amount of work she has done, but to the knowledge that she possesses. Naomi is a naturally oppositional conscious and questions a lot of things, sometimes because they are questionable and sometimes simply to engage others. That's who she is - an engager. She favors intellectual conversation and people, especially those who sees inequality and wrongness in the world. She is a passionate individual and that is evident in the unwavering attention she sheds on something that she cares about or even a simple conversation. She's not some dainty little flower in the garden that you just want to nurture and care for; she is a powerhouse waiting to explode upon the first sign of an opinion that differs from her own - not because she thinks its her way or the highway, but because she genuinely likes making people think.
Needless to say, however, her seeming openness should not be taken at face value. Any real friend of hers will tell you: it is very rare when Naomi allows anyone to do for her and it is equally rare for her to actually stay in a relationship. It was never that she was too good for a relationship or people's help. She just hates needing people. It is something her grandmother instilled in her, something she learned upon witnessing her mother's own tragic lifestyle. She can do sex just fine. Oh, Naomi can do sex just fine. Ask her lovers, they'll tell you no lies. Regardless of how they ended, that was never the problem. But that fear of intimacy - of allowing someone to care for them and admitting to herself that she needs someone is a daunting process that Naomi has struggled to take part in. Regardless of what anyone will say about how Water signs are the most emotional beings in the zodiac, Naomi will deny it vehemently while kissing you until you forget that you weren't just there for her body - that you weren't just there to be her friend. Needing someone equals weakness and Naomi witnessed weakness first-hand and she never wants to be that way.

"Nana wasn't a big fan of the idea of Greek life and truthfully, if it hadn't been for the connections being in a sorority offered, she honestly would have irked me to the point of not wanting to join. I almost didn't if one of our alums hadn't sponsored me. The point is that at the end of the day, I love these girls. At least, MY girls. College shouldn't just be all seriousness, there's a time for that. At the moment, we should just be able to live and do us and not regret having not done anything later in life."
Naomi appreciates the sisterhood she has been afforded and the time that she's having. Granted, the rivalry between the sorors is pretty ridiculous to her and she'll talk to whoever she feels like talking to, but the idea of long-lasting friendships is what sustains her.
Future Plans?
"Actually, I'm considering moving to LA. My internship over the summer was with 107.9 and they want me back next summer, and possibly during Winter Break, so who knows what'll happen?"
The number one assumption is that Naomi wants to be the next big singer. It's a good dream and yeah, she has the capacity for it. She dances, sings, writes her own songs, and even is good with mixing beats. Why do you think that she's the number one DJ at a Zeta party? However, she is interested in intertwining the political education she has acquired with the media and her music, so she wants to start with being on the radio just as a personality.

Distinguishing Marks
It was bad enough when Naomi was fourteen when she decided she wanted her nose piercing. Her grandmother had been pissed, but not as much as she had been when Naomi got her tattoo, which is on her left side. Other than the standard ear piercing, she hasn't decided on anything else.
Clothing Style
If there is one thing this Zeta Nu Delta member is known for other than her voice and insurmountable energy, it is her fashion sense. It is loud enough to make a statement, but classic enough to remind you that she is a nineties baby. Naomi grew up being nourished by the black culture and from that came an appreciation to hip hop, particularly the fashion style. While she isn't the richest student on campus, Naomi comes out of her sorority house stylish every day and she's not afraid to try out patterns. Her personal style consists of a tomboyish, hip hop influenced wardrobe that can be chic, edgy, but always comfortable. Naomi will tell you any day - she LOVES sneakers and she probably has an equal amount of both sneakers and heels, she does not discriminate. Her style can seem relaxed one day and then sexy yet stylish the next day. Such can be seen here, here, and here. Granted, she does go some days with much more girlier items because she does like them, but give her a choice and you'll see her in some cargo pants, Timberlands, and a basic crop top with a gold chain. Such eccentricity can be seen with her hair. Naturally curly and thick, the semi-tight coils are usually left to their own devices, thrown under a bandana or just left loose. However, depending on her mood, she would braid her hair, style it in some sexy updo, or - and only if the mood strikes her - she will straighten it. Either way, every outfit from Naomi usually is a treat and you're either admiring her devil-may-care attitude, or you're just hater.
