GAME OVER

Initializing First Time Setup...
Welcome to the Dead System or as I like to call it Game Over for the goal of it all is for me to witness you take your very last breath. Oh, how rude of me I have not introduced myself. I Emilia Victoria Lafrey will be your guest, your friend, your enemy, your overseer, but most importantly your game master. Oh yes, the very person you will most likely label crazy will have your very lives within her hand. Ah, I am getting ahead of myself first let me explain your dire situation. You see you were within my universe the Dead System universe and before you attempt to call for help or seek the fire escape this place is nonexistent in your world, this universe is nonphysical. THIS WORLD IS OUR VERY OWN CREATION, THIS IS THE DIGITAL ALL COMPRISED FROM WITHIN MY VERY MIND! Don't get me wrong I received plenty of help from mother and father but they only helped create this place I was the brains. I digress, your purpose here is for my own very amusement. You shall try to survive and obtain the Dead Key, the only plausible way of escape and only I can grant you what you wish for I can grant you whatever you want whether it be food, weapons, love, recognition, or the very gate key but at a price. In order to receive anything you must win my favor and in order to obtain a favor you must in turn complete the tasks I ask of you or amuse me through the very things I find amusing and that's not an easy one for I only find amusement from truly wicked deeds. Like every game there is a point system, so look upon my favors as a point system collect as much as you want in order to turn in my favors in order to purchase something from my Mad Box, yes my very own mind. I digress one again... WHY DON'T YOU WARN ME WHEN I DO THESE SORT OF THINGS! Moving on, you are not the only victim of Game Over yes there are others, others in the same situation as you. Just like you these people have families, loved ones, careers, lives that they have to get back to and just like you they will do whatever it takes to make it back home so if I were you I'd eliminate the competition or at the very least keep one eye open. To make things clear, you are trying to get back home while fending off hostiles, compete against the others, and survive my wrath. As for me, I'm here to slaughter each and every one of you in whatever way possible and I shall get what I want for I am the Game Master, in other words... GAME OVER

Story Mode...
You and three others (Might allow more) are trapped within this digital world called the Dead System, where a obviously insane and wicked girl that calls herself the Game Master have trapped you within. You are to play Game Over, a game that is centered around your attempt to earn favors from the Game Master in order to survive and earn enough favors to obtain the Dead Key which grants you escape from the Dead System, all while trying to survive but inhabitants of the universe and the very Game Master that holds the key to your escape. The story has three endings, the first being your character successfully escapes, your character fails resulting in their death, or your character choose to remain within the Dead System (For whatever reason, but keep in mind the Game Master will still attempt to take their life). Keep in mind the goal here is for you to escape, the goal for me is to slaughter your characters. Let the games Begin

Gameplay...
This Dead System universe is comprised of multiple worlds that all differ in difficulty but with better rewards, while playing the Dead System you can purchase extra features that will enhance the gameplay with favors. These features range from IC to OOC components of the story, all of them being beneficial. Tasks grant favors and tasks are given from IC or secret tasks that the Game Master whispers within your character's mind (PMs). Be aware that if your character escapes or dies the story as far as they are concerned is over meaning you are politely kicked from the story, this is to have a rotation of roleplayers and characters. Because of this I will always allow reservations for future opened spots, I will simply keep a list of reservations and go down the line and once a spot opens up I will contact you. So roleplayers that have had their character win the game or die and wish to still be part of it (Because nothing is redone the story progress and changes constantly to keep the entertainment and increase difficulty) you can still reserve even though you already had a run of it. As for the gameplay, the story is a sandbox meaning you decided where you go, how you handle things, what actions you take, and so on. Everything is free will, I will simply react to everything meaning if you kill a villager I will place a set of events for that action or if you go for a walk and saw you find an ancient ruin I will set a set of events for that as well. The only thing you cannot do is create NPCs such as villagers, barbarians, assassins, etc. The way things work is that you give me the location (Such as a village) and I will fill it with whatever I like (Including flying spaghetti monsters). With this in mind I will come up with multiple events and almost never regurgitate any (Or if I do there is a major twist to it). By the way, there will be rare occasions when the Game Master will deprive you of a certain amount of favor points, anyone with a negative amount of favor points is place with the Dead Curse. This curse labels your character wanted throughout the universe making nearly everyone hostile towards them, as Emilia likes to call it "The Deadman's Curse". I also have placed multiple ways to illegitimately leave the Dead System and other secret story plots.

The Mad Box...
This is the Mad Box, the Game Master's mind and reward chest, you will be spending your favor points here. Just so you know any reward labeled with "IC" are rewards that will be delivered or take effect within the story, as for "OOC" rewards they are delivered immediately. Keep in mind favor points are quite valuable and a single death and take it all away.

Code: Select all
Dead Key (IC): The winning item, this key allows you to leave Dead System and go back home successfully beating the Game Master at her own game. (1,000 Favors)

Gate Key (IC): This key has the same ability as the Dead Key, but instead of leaving the universe it only allows you to leave the current world you're in and jump to a corresponding world. (100 Favors)

Death Mark (IC): This places a death mark on the spoken target, this target will immediately die. (10 Favors)

Soul Bound (IC): The binding of souls allowing the two individuals to know each others location at all time, their health status, and can communicate with the mind alone no matter the distance. (250 Favors)

Dark Beast (IC): The bestowal of a dark beast (Any animal the character has previously come in contact with), once an animal has been chosen they will receive a black tattoo of the animal. This tattoo allows the character to summon the beast out of thin air once a day, this beast can kill but can be summoned once again the next day. This beast drains the life force of its master as long as its summoned. (300 Favors)

Dark Influence (OOC): This grants the ability to force an NPC to do one task, no matter what the task is. The victim must be within earshot. (50 Favors)

Dark Reputation (OOC): Grants you "ally" reputation for whichever organization, kingdom, person, etc. even if you murdered the person's child. Only usable on NPCs. (100 Favors)

This is a digital imaginative universe making each world diverse with mythical and non-mythical creatures. You can use this only twice, the first time makes you half human/half the race you chose, using it twice replaces the other human half with the race your chose. (300 Favors)

Immortality (OOC): Your character is immortal making it that their death is only possible if murdered.  Immune to poison, hunger, dehydration, drowning, etc. (600 Favors)

Dark Insight (IC): This forces the Game Master to give you information on whatever topic, person, place, object, etc. (100 Favors)

The Dead System is a system that not only a sequence of ones and zeros but its a living thing just like the very players that it held hostage. The system is the game master herself and much, much more. It lived both within the digital universe it manifested but as well as the real world. Living within the system of today's electronics it observed its future candidates, educating itself on them. It learned, labeled, and examined its players for the game. The very electronics that we believed were there to make life easier soon became the cause of our kidnapping and torture all for entertainment. Whether you were walking down an abandoned alley or sleeping within your cozy bed the system snatched you from the very life you loved or hated and threw you within a world of chaos, a world where insanity was the answer to everything.

The game master stood within a sea of total darkness, she could not even see her outstretched hands but within fractions of a second the Dead System came to life. First it was the stars then entire worlds were begin digitally created before her eyes. Hundreds of worlds were created within an instant, they were bare but before the very thoughts could come to her head the worlds were being filled with with a large variety of creatures of various types and sizes. Within fractions of a second worlds that have never been seen were being created and creatures that normally be labeled as fictional were roaming these worlds as if it was the norm. This was the dead system, a world where everything was possible.

Just like the rest of the Dead System the players of the game were generated on the atomic level, but the players were generated at a much slower rate. The system wanted to recreate the players in the same condition they were in when abducted, but when it was done creating the players their bodies laid limp on the vegetation of the rain forest that it generated them within. The starting world the game master chose was a world that had plenty of rain forest-like vegetation within a large landmass that covered the entire world except for two large bodies of water at the north and south pole and the countless rivers that stemmed out from the bodies of water as if reaching out for the equator.

The game master was seated on a outstretched branch from an overgrown tree that shaded the players. She watched as the system recreated the bodies of the players, but she was not satisfied until her toys had a mind of its own. So she waited patiently as the system individually placed back the very minds of each player that it had taken from their physically body only yo be put into their digital body and the game database as backup. Now all that was left to do was wait, wait for her toys to awake...

She blows some smoke from her mouth as she looks over the city with a tired expression, elbows rested on the railing and cigarette held lightly between two slender fingers. She blinks a couple of times, watching the lights radiating from each individual building light up the city below in the dark night sky. The pressure and stress had gotten to her today. Today's events had just been a series of blurry movements.

"Okay sweetie, have a good first day! And remember, I'll be back to pick you up later today."
"Okay mommy, see you later!"

In all honesty she was probably more nervous than the four year old, really not ready to let her that long in one place all alone. Knowing no one around her. It was a scary experience. For both of them.

"Levi, I really think it's about time you found someone. I mean... You can't raise Eliza on your own."
"Wow, with that kind of shit you sound like my mother. Look I'm doing just fine on my own. And anyway, don't I have you to help out?"
"Well... yeah... but still. Maybe you should look for someone too."

Her own best friend, trying to subtly say that she wanted Levi to find someone else to help her out. Well, she couldn't blame her. She was only 21 herself, and probably didn't want to spend her evenings in watching Sesame street and other such kids programmes.

Levi ran a hair through her hair and then sucked up some ash and shit from the lit cigarette. She groaned softly and bit down hard on her lip. She hated the anger that built up within her. The constant anger and rage that came about. It probably didn't help that she got called by the police station again the other day. They needed her to go undercover as a prostitute to get in contact with a rich man. A pimp, basically. Oh how she'd look forward to the slutty outfits and such...

She bit down hard on her lip, on the brink of screaming into the dark sky, right before she felt herself squeezing onto a necklace. She opened her eyes and then looked down to her locket. Inside it was a very small image of herself and her daughter. She blinked a couple of times and then let out a exasperated sigh. No. She wouldn't scream. She'd probably wake up Eliza anyway. And the kid needed her sleep...

Alevina put the cigarette in her mouth again and then held her head in her hands. Well at least there was one good thing going in her life....It was at this point that she decided it was about time to go back to the apartment and make sure everything was okay. It was getting late... However, just as she was about to do this, a light-headed dizzy feeling passed over her. She fell back a little and then rose up again, though was seeming to stumble a little over her own feet. "W... what the fuck...?" She rubbed at her forehead vigerously, before falling back and hitting her head on the railing, cutting straight to a deathly black...

After coming around from this blackness with a groan, she slowly opened her eyes, still feeling the smoking cigarette in her hand. "Ugh... I must need to cut down..." She grumbled, before noticing something... odd... Instead of being on the gravely concrete of the balcony, she was laying on soft, muddy grass, dark chocolate hair spread out beneath her. She narrowed her eyes slightly, raising up and rubbing at her temples and glancing around her. "...Some fucked up illusion here..." She commented, listening to the sound of the rainforest and unable to help but question herself. How did she get to a place like this?

"....and the winner, by knockout, is your World Heavyweight Champion, Zachary Ackers!"

Thousands of cheers once again filled the air of the huge building that a title-fight had taken place. Aside from the screams of fans, Zach's arm was raised into the air as well, his signature smirk found on his lips, as always, as he gazed around the audience. So lively they were, so happy and ecstatic that their champion was still undefeated. Were they ever expecting a different outcome?

Zachary gave his usual post-fight greeting to the loser as he finally became able to support himself without assistance. It was a friendly handshake, followed by a 'good fight' and some palling around. Zachary wasn't a sore winner, and always remained friendly after a fight. It wasn't anything personal, it was just them doing their job and their passion, nothing else. How could you hate someone for that?

The champion didn't stick around for much longer than needed. He disappeared into his vehicle and drove away from all the fans, the media and everyone else, only wanting to see one person. The thought of seeing his little sister brought up a warm, welcomed feeling in him, but also a less than pleasant one as well. It hurt just as much as it pleased him to see her.

Zachary parked his car, retrieved his keys and entered his residence in a hurry, not paying much attention to the luxurious place he called home. It was a bigger place, the walls littered with exotic paintings that he didn't really care for, the floor had some form of expensive rug on it, and anyone could tell that it was something no unwealthy citizen could afford. Zach didn't personally decorate the house, he simply went with whatever he was told would look good. But all this stuff had gotten asthetically boring quite a while ago, and seeing his sister was more enjoyable than staring in awe at his own residence.

He passed through the doors and continued up the staircase that laid to the side of the living room, heading straight up them, though not at a horrible sprint. He had slown down by now. Once he had ascended the steps, he took a familiar left and a few steps later, a right, followed by opening the door before his face.

He was greeted by the brightest of smiles.

"Zachary!" came a squeal of excitement. "You won again, just like you promised!"

The man took a seat next to the brown-haired girl's bed, smiling at her before speaking. "Do I ever break promises? I told you your big bro has got this, didn't I?"

"Yeah! But did you get hurt?"

"Pfft! What? No~ho. A little kick like that?" he chuckled a bit nervously. "Nah, I didn't feel a thing!"

Claire deadpanned almost immediately, dropping her smile. "The announcers said you were 'rocked'."

The nervous chuckled slowed to a stop before Ackers spoke again. "Uh.... don't listen to them. They don't know what they were saying."

"....right." she sighed, but smiled again, much to Zach's pleasure. "I'm glad you're alright though." she giggled.

.....
.....
.....

"Huh?" as the life returned to Zach, he found himself in unfamiliar territory. Underneath him was green grass, not white tile. Above him sat the blue sky, obscurred by tress instead of any form of ceiling. The song of the rainforest was audible in comparison of his rather quiet abode. Zachary wasn't a detective, but it didn't take one to deduce that he wasn't in his home anymore. More than anything, he worried:

Did I lose a fight?

Bennie Dewhurst

β€œ... And they all lived happily together ever after. The end.”

Mr. Dewhurst carefully closed the hardback shut with a concluding sigh. One could not ignore the bags under his eyes, although they were crinkled with tender warmth. He lifted his head up and smiled at the child who was tucked comfortably within his bed. Bennie was relatively small for his age; he looked engulfed by the many folds of his duvet. His head was sunken into the softness of his feather down pillow. However, neither of these objects succeeded in concealing the boy’s vivid eyes. Bennie’s irises practically glowed inside the dimly lit room, accented by the illumination of his bedside lamp. Despite the time, he still remained alert; yet to surrender to the night’s tempting caress. His body still vibrated with energy yet to be wasted.

β€œWhat a lovely story! Again, again!” He squealed in delight, kicking out his feet underneath the duvet for emphasize.

Once more, his father sighed. Although not of annoyance, it was something he had gotten used to every night. β€œNo, Bennie. It’s about time you went to bed, you know?” He said unconvincingly, bringing his wrist closer towards his face as he inspected the time on his watch.

β€œAw. Well, if you say so. Are you sure?” The child attempted to put on his saddest face as possible, widening his eyes and pushing out his lower lip.

The man glanced at his son with a grimace. β€œWhy don’t you take off your jacket? You really shouldn't be wearing it to bed. β€œ He replied, hoping that it would change the subject.

Bennie had the habit of wearing his favourite hoodie at night - it was a natural recurrence every night. Mr. Dewhurst should've known, by now, that it was futile by asking that question.

β€œUmmmm, no.” The child said with finality as he shook his head.

β€œI see, I shouldn't have even bothered.” His father rose from the side of the mattress and leaned over to give Bennie a peck on the cheek, β€œWell, goodnight.”

β€œGoodnight dad.” He said and watched him as he turned off the lamp and walked out of the room. With an exhausted smile, the man pulled the door closed.

The boy snuggled into his bed, comforted by the fact that his teddy cat lay cosily in between his arms. He giggled as its wispy strands of fur tickled his nose while breathing in.

"What would I be without you, Alpine." He whispered, a grin still apparent on his face before plunging into a deep sleep.

Bennie found himself standing on something pleasantly cushiony, its colour being a shade of pleasant pink. The child looked down, surprised, as he realised that he was standing on a large marshmallow. He bent down and knelt down on the edge, it seemed that the sugary snack was hovering above thin air. It was difficult to see what was underneath them, as the bottom was hidden underneath a dark mist. Bennie was smart enough to know that whatever down there certainly wasn't going to be good. Above him, the sky gleamed a brilliant magenta with not that many clouds in sight. It faded into a purple in the distance. Any clouds that were to be seen, however, were a clean white - imitating the exact fluffiness of cotton candy. Hundreds of marshmallows, similar to the one Bennie was standing on, surrounded him in every direction and disappeared into the horizon. They were unevenly scattered with a considerable amount of space in between each other. It was unclear what the objective was or where the reward was placed, but the child found himself immediately leaping towards a nearby marshmallow. The soft floor absorbed the impact and did not experience pain when landing.

Bennie continued to hop from one marshmallow to another, with relative ease. The more marshmallows he successfully landed on, the father apart they became. It wasn't long until he found himself almost isolated from anything else. The nearest checkpoint was several metres away. Bennie tried his luck and sprinted off the edge before propelling towards the marshmallow. It was too short as the boy's hand closed around thin air. His arms scrambled for anything to cling on, his body filling with dread as he plummeted deeper and deeper down the chasm. He hopelessly watched on, as everything evaporated into thin air and all that was left was an impenetrable black. An unforgiving black that wrapped tightly around his throat and squeezed him from the inside. He could not utter a single sound as the colour infected his sight and all he could see was it.

The child jolted awake, his hand desperately searching around for Alpine. It had always been her that could comfort him the loneliest of nights. His eyes widened in fear as his fingers brushed not fur, but damp soil and vegetation. His body now rigid with shock, Bennie forced himself to stand up. He had not been lying on his mattress; he did not even find himself in his bedroom. It looked like miles away from his house. Where was he? The nine year-old looked up and stared at the rays of sunlight squeezing through the large leaves of the trees that towered overhead. It took every cell in his body to not scream out in complete confusion. Just what was going on?

The game master watched patiently as her players slowly came into existence, a total of four. She waited and waited, even though the wait were mere seconds she immediately knew something went wrong. Counting the three she spotted she began getting tempered, no she never gets angry just slightly tempered. Sighing, she brushed the thought away knowing that the system simply was searching for the final player. She would get her four, she always got what she wanted. Taking a leap from the branch she slowly descended in the same motion a feather would, in her mind she fell as she pleased and this was her imagination. The sundress she decided to wear for this occasion did not even react properly to the natural law of gravity, even her green vibrant hair remained down not a single strand was pushed up from the descent. Once she was planted on the ground she began her slow walk towards the three with her soon-to-be familiar sadistic smile. Even though she was in front of them her mind was on countless scenarios of ways she could silence her playthings, the latter being more gruesome than the last. These intense visualizations and emotions caused the very vegetation near her to turn red as blood.

"Ah, hello there." As soon as she spoke those words and focused on the matter at hand all the blood disappeared and the red vegetation revert back to its normal properties. "My name is Emilia Victoria Lafrey, no need to introduce yourself I know everything about you," As she spoke she gave them smiles obviously forced and filled the atmosphere with malice. "Alevina Ramone, Player One." She said as she smiled at the player sporting the name. "Zachary Ackers, Player Two." This player she smirked at. "And finally, Bennie Dewhurst, Player Three." Though when she looked over at the little boy she immediately began laughing in hysteria. "Ohohoho, this is going to be quite party." She said once her episode ended, "Don't worry Player Four will join you sooner or later." She added.

"Ahhh, who am I kidding you don't give a damn about greetings you want to know why you're here!" This seem to set her off since she began walking away until she reached a tree and pressed the side of her head firmly against it with her back turned to the group, "Well you see, this is my little playground, this is your soon to be grave, this is the Dead System. Here is where we shall play Game Over, my own little game that forces you to fight for your lives so that you may return home to your world, your life."

"Well, I believe that's all I've got to say to you, don't worry I shall stay in contact I don't want my toys to be lonely after all." With that she began slowly stumbling away like a drunkard.

Alevina blinked a couple of times at the girl that looked like she had a few too many vodka's last night. Looking batty as an elephant on a unicycle. But that was besides the point. What she was saying made no sense what so ever... "Well you see, this is my little playground, this is your soon to be grave, this is the Dead System. Here is where we shall play Game Over, my own little game that forces you to fight for your lives so that you may return home to your world, your life." Dead system? Fight for their lives? Soon to be grave?! Levi just didn't quite get what the kid was going on about. However, she was getting to the point of being pissed off about it. About the way Emilia acted like she had control over herself, and these other two people that she hadn't really noticed before Emilia pointed them out. She'd get round to them eventually probably, but for now Levi was aiming her anger at the girl with green hair.

Levi narrowed her eyes and jumped to her feet, picking up her pace and marching up to the drunken looking girl. "Listen here you little shit. I've got a home to get to, just what the fuck is going on? And I mean seriously?" She asked poking a sharp finger into her shoulder a couple of times in a forceful manner. "If you're gonna act like your... queen of the world or something, just point me to the next bus out of here! I've got things to get back to, and I don't need to waste my time with bitches such as yourself." She commented, folding her arms together and giving her a fierce glare.

The sound of Levi's footsteps closing in on Emilia caused the girl to smirk. She heard Levi's fierce words as she closed in on her but she continued to walk away up until she so rudely poked her, repeatedly at that. Stopping immediately she listened to the rest of what the girl had to say, the smirk now gone. Once Levi finished she turned to face her rowdy player, maybe she had more to learn from them after all. She observed the stance Levi finished with; looking Levi up and down her eyes took on an artificial nature of focusing on what seemed to be random points of Levi's body as if her eyes were a machine scanning parts of a product.

When she finished she smiled up at Levi, "So this is what it means to be angry." With that statement the game master immediately took on the same stance Levi was in, even her facial expression imitated Levi, "Queen is not such a bad title, but like I said before I am the game master and this is my game." Smirking she continued, "It just happens that your life is on the line."

"You see I was going to have mother upload all the information you needed to know after I left," Her words were cold and emotionless along with her face as her smirk disappeared, cocking her head, "But you had to be impatient, very well... mother if you would."

As soon as those words left her lips all the players were frozen as information was being uploaded to the minds of the players and being stored within the memory bank. Information on the Dead System, Mad Box, rules, the game 'Game Over', death penalties, their last moments of their abductions, and just to be dramatic the last bit of information was the one thing that gave them reason to get back home. All this information was done verbally within their minds and visually. Once all the information was given to them in what to seemed to take an eternity when in actuality took on milliseconds, they were unfrozen and reality fizzed back into visual.

"Now do you get it?" The game master asked as she slowly walked backwards with her arms outstretch, "The only way out is through playing... GAME OVER."

Well, it seems that whatever happened, Zachary wasn't awake yet. Though he was surprised at this - he had never dreamed anything like this before. Maybe he was drugged or something, and that's why he was having odd dreams about waking up in a field with strangers with one telling them indirectly that she was batshit insane. He couldn't think of a time beforehand that he'd every think of a scenario such as this, because it made no sense to him at all. The only thing that did make sense was that she said they had to FIGHT to the death. Zachary of course took that literally, and started feeling a bit confident, though he wasn't entirely accepting of the situation still.

But it would seem like he had the cool head of the group, as one was a child and the other instantly set off with unpleasant words towards the crazy woman. She even poked the girl's shoulder a few times, obviously unhappy with this joke. Zach watched as the green-haired girl took to being a copycat, maybe just to annoy the other woman. Zach smiled. This smile soon disappeared as the green-haired crazy mentioned something about her mother and a buffalo (he couldn't really hear from where he was) and his mind was assualted by not only the rules of the game, but the memories of his abduction.....

"Well, I'm glad you're glad I'm alright." Zachary smiled towards his little sister. "Now, how about I go fetch us our dinner? I'm sure Rosie is done with it, right? She usually starts at six."

She smiled. "Yeah, so go get it!" she ordered.

Zachary stood himself up and started out her bedroom. His smile wasn't there anymore, now that he wasn't with her. Just a blank expression, like usual for him when nobody was around. As he descended the stairs, one could easily tell he wasn't happy. Not because his parents were dead - he had long ago come to terms with that, but because Claire was so limited. It hurt him to know that he got to walk around and do what he loved when she couldn't manage to even stand. She was robbed of her legs at such a small age that she hadn't really lived. While in truth, she didn't mind it that much and cared more about spending time with her brother rather than walking, Zach couldn't realize this, and moped.

He stepped into the kitchen, noticing a skinny, white maid. She smiled at him as was her routine. "Hello." she greeted him. "I noticed you ran straight up to see Claire. I didn't see your fight, so I don't know... was she happy?" she asked casually as she subconciously began making two plates.

Zachary smiled. "Of course she was. Have I ever lost?" he boasted quite confidently.

She smiled innocently. "Yes."

Zach shut up for a minute, mumbling something under his breath. "So anyways, how was she today?"

"If she could, I bet she would've ran fifty laps around the house." she started enthusiastically. "She was so excited that you were fighting near home, so you can imagine."

"Yeah, I could." he chuckled as Rosie began finishing the plates. A large potato, fried veggies and ham sat on each plate. "Here you go." she offered them to him. Zachary nodded graciously before heading out the room. Up the stairs and through the door once more, he found Claire still smiling. She glanced up at him expectingly and he handed her the plate.

"Thank you." she said before digging in.

....
....
....

Ow... his head hurt. "Why are you doing this?" Zachary demanded, now realizing that this was no dream, but actually happening. Surely it was on everyone else's mind, but he spoke up first. "I have someone to get back to."

A deep satisfaction crept over Desrow as he washed blood from his hands. In his mind he replayed the scene of his most recent kill several times.

"Please sir, can you spare some change, anything at all... anything will help me."

The vagrant clutched and pulled on Desrow's robes. His pleas sickened the monk and with gentle movements the monk removed the man from his clothing. A large smile crept over Desrow's face as he kneeled to speak to the trash. His pulse jumped with excitement as he reached out to touch the man's shoulder. Such filth, he thought as his hand could feel the grimy texture of the worn coat.

"I'm sorry, I am just a humble monk and I have no money to spare."

The homeless man deflated and looked to the ground. "I see, I am sorry to have bothered you then."

"However..." Desrow stood up and looked around, no one was within sight. Perhaps there were some within earshot, but the cold fog and dark night would provide more than enough cover. His hand reached for a small string of prayer beads and he gently lifted them from his neck.

"However, if you wish I can pray for you."

"Please do sir, I need everything I can ge-" Without warning Desrow's boot quickly found its way against the vagrant's skull. He was knocked backwards and with a sickening crack his head bounced on the rough asphalt. Desrow walked over to the groaning man and dragged him farther into the alleyway. The vagrant was in a stupor, brought on by the intense amount of pain and probable concussion. Desrow propped the man up and lowered the prayer beads around his neck. He pulled tightly upwards, forcing the man to choke and gasp painfully.

"How can I pray for your poor soul when it is caged in such a fleshy prison, don't worry my friend I shall be your salvation from this life." Desrow whispered into his ear "Death is salvation"

Without another word Desrow tightened the prayer beads and reached underneath his robe. From his robe he pulled a long thin blade, more of a letter opener than a dagger, but it was sharp nonetheless. With a silent practiced motion he sliced a thin line from artery to artery. Blood spouted from the vagrant's neck, covering Desrow's blade, prayer beads, and hands.

It suddenly came to Desrow that his mind was getting blurry, and his memory was fading. He no longer heard the running water and he became intensely aware of himself as his surroundings disappeared. He fell to his knees and held his shaking hands before him.

"What the hell?"

As if to punctuate the question, he fell over and lost consciousness. He was asleep for what seemed like an eternity, it was a weird almost lucid kind of sleep. Desrow felt his body materialize and soon felt cold grass against is body, he was aware of voices and sounds, but his body refused to respond to his commands. After another eternity his body finally gave into his commands and he sat up quickly. Without a word he stood up and brushed the loose grass and dirt from his robes. There were several people all of whom seemed to be just as confused as himself.

"Hello my friends. Can someone explain to me what is going on?" his voice was even and calm, despite his furiously racing mind. His demeanor belied how much of a threat he truly was. He carried himself as a polite Buddhist monk, and despite his rather eccentric clothing few would be the wiser. He looked at the others and one by one he examined each of them. Nothing piqued his interest until his eyes stopped on Zachary. MMA fights were a secret pleasure of his, he loved watching the violence that the fights brought. His jaw almost dropped when he saw who was standing before him.

"Are...are you Zachary Ackers? The famous martial artist? Man, I have to be dreaming... this is unreal"

Zachary raised his hand at the green-haired crazy to tell her to hold on and looked towards the new voice. Were people going to pop out of oblivion continuously, or was this just the last person? He hoped so, because he knew what this woman was saying, and that it was true. He didn't want too many people dying, actually, he wanted nobody at all to die. He glanced over the man and raised an eyebrow. She kidnapped a monk? What was the point in that? She must've traveled quite far just to fetch him, but then again, she had a child too so that must not be much of a problem for her - in terms of being unlazy enough to go wherever she went.

Then he called Zach by name. Still confused but also moderately happy someone recognized him, he smiled. "It's always nice to see a fan." Zach began. "Though I wasn't aware that Monks watched me." he gave a chuckle and didn't seem like he was pushing for anything because he really wasn't. "But right now isn't the time to stare in awe at someone like myself, for we're apparently supposed to play a game for our lives." his smile dropped as he spoket his, making it hard to think he was joking.

He turned once more to face Crazy Incarnate and pointed at her with one finger. "I don't think Mr....." he turned back to the monk. "What was your name?" he quickly asked then sighed and turned back to the girl again without waiting for an answer. "I don't think he knows what is going on. Can your 'mother' show him, or do I need to explain to him the details of the childish game you worked up?" Zachary shook his head lightly. It was quite obvious that he wasn't taking this as serious as the others, or at least he didn't appear that way.

"Even the most fun game in the world won't sell much if we're stuck in the lobby forever."

Bennie Dewhurst

Who were these people? Who was this girl who had greeted them? Why was he here? Why? Why? Why? He was tired of not knowing, but he was much too terrified to ask. All he wanted was to go back home, where his family and Alpine was. His entire frame quivered with pure fear, the boy was on the verge of crying. Bennie had yet to move from his seated position for the past few minutes - he refused to budge. He didn't like the sound of bickering, his ears were unfamiliar to the gruff and uninviting voices of the men. For once, in his life, he wanted silence. Was that so hard? He had been a good boy, he never asked for anything not within his parent's reach. What had he done to deserve this? Bennie scrambled towards a nearby tree, but still reasonably far, and pushed his back against it. The boy squeezed his eyes shut and pressed his hands over his ears - the sleeves of his hoodie muffling any outside noises. He didn't want to be noticed, he didn't want to be here. He had convinced himself that maybe if he ignored it, perhaps he would go back. Back to the warm folds of his duvet, back to the gentle caress of his teddy cat, back home.

Suddenly, a blinding light flashed through the gloomy inside of his eyes. Bennie jerked back in surprise but he did not open his eyes. He watched, stiff with a combination of curiosity and shock, as a script continued to run across his eyelids. The boy assumed it was information provided to them by the strange girl, but he could not read it fast enough. In random intervals, twitchy images were slotted in between the columns of texts. Each picture projected something valuable he had recently left behind. A half-open door, spilling light into the dark bedroom. His father sitting beside him on the mattress, a loving smile etched onto his face. The glossy pages of a storybook. The glowing stickers of the moon and the stars glued onto his ceiling. Alpine snuggling in between his slender arms. It then abruptly stopped, giving Bennie a sense of isolation.

It was a confusing concept for a child's mind to understand, Bennie was now even more homesick. Had that been done solely for that purpose? To remind the group what was patiently waiting for them back at home? The boy glanced back up at the girl, what was her agenda? Did she not like them or did she just like being mean? Did she not realise how much that short-lived memory had broken him inside? The boy was fed up with asking questions. he didn't want to be with these people. They were all strangers, Mother had told him never to speak to strangers - he hadn't intended to speak to them in the first place. His lip began to quiver and he could feel the edges of his eyes smarting. Without a second thought, Bennie began to cry. He began to bawl and blubber like any child his age. He wiped his dribbling nose with his dirtied sleeve before continuing with an equal amount of bravado. He was too tired to think properly. The inner turmoil of emotion concealed within him had burst out - and Bennie had openly welcomed it.

Emilia watched in pleasure as her final player appeared right before her eyes, she just loved the sight of seeing true life being recreated within her system. This was her prize and joy without it she felt empty... this was her reality. She listened and was rather impressed on how quick player number two, Zachary Ackers digested the information and accepted the situation. He even kept his composure and that brought a twitch to her forced smile.

"Yes you are correct the game has begun now that all four players are here, in other words I am simply wasting your precious time that you could be using to return to your family and friends." She was going to continue but as soon as she said the word 'friends' her smile dropped along with her arms and she simply stood there staring.

She was staring directly at Levi, the first candidate. What the others could not see due to their position was the reconstruction process going awry. Levi's face was literally disintegrating at the atomic level, first slowly then faster. As the process continued the others could see Levi's body literally disappear starting with clothes, hair, skin, muscle, fat, tendons, organs, bones, and so on until nothing was left. To the players this was something random, out of the norm but to the game master this happened often... files can be uploaded incorrectly. Unfortunately for this file, it was a living being.

"That ladies and gentlemen is what happens when you lose, just with more pain," With that Emilia turned away hiding her angered face, they weren't ready for an angry game master... not just yet. "If I were you I would start moving, these forests tend to come alive at night..."

With those words she disappeared like light disappeared from a room once darkness has engulfed it.
