Personality

While he might not look it, Ensyn is a pretty laid back person. He is much more of an erudite than a man of action, preferring to work behind a desk than out in the field. His fitness comes from having to make his way through both city streets and the halls of the magic academies, something easier said than done. He sometimes daydreams, and has been know to fall asleep when he isn't obsessing about a new discovery or an upcoming experiment. When talking about theories or possibilities, he gets so enthused that he has the bad habit of talking over other people. He is somewhere halfway between student and teacher, but that doesn't bother him in the least. So long as he can keep learning and theorizing, he's happy as a clam.

When he was a kid, he was actually very cunning and sly. He could weave his way through politics and usually get what he needed by the end. This was left by the wayside when he went to the magic academy, but this doesn't necessarily mean it's gone. He just hasn't had a reason to need it,

Equipment

He doesn't actually carry too much on his person, he keep it all in his rooms. What he does have at all times is his staff, his wand, his mages' cloak signifying where he came from, and whatever book he is reading at the time. Back in his room he has piles of books and other research materials, most of it borrowed from the library. It's not all about one thing, because no one thing ever holds all his attention. He curiosity is legendary among people in the academies.

History

Ensyn Maclura is the son two Erubran nobles, the third of nine. The fact that he was also the third son left him in a rather awkward position; his oldest brother would inherit the family weath, the second oldest was to be an officer in the military. What did that leave him to do? His parents had no idea. They left him to his own devices, basically ignoring him in order to groom his older brothers. His six younger sisters were the same, to a certain extent, but they could at least be marriaged off to build connections and power. Ensyn, or just Syn as his little sisters called him, was left alone. So he read. His family had a respectable library, but it was no match for Ensyn's insatiable appetite for books. When he wasn't reading, he was either teaching himself magic and science or else talking and playing with his sisters. When he was ten, he foiled his parents first attempt to marry off his sister at the tender age of nine. He did it in such a way that no one could complain. And while no one could complain, that didn't keep his parents from being angry. Even with this anger, however, Ensyn put an end to every single marriage arrangement his parents came up with until he was thirteen. That was the last time he could stop them. The means Ensyn had used had left some bad feelings on the part of the other family, and his parents came down hard on him. He was locked in his room for a month, food slid under the door for him to eat. His sisters would sneak in to talk to him, but he would only let them stay for a few minutes so that they couldn't be caught by their parents. After his sentence of tedium, he was let free, but his relationship with his parents never recovered. And neither could he stop the marriages. That didn't mean he lost, though. Instead of stopping the marriages, he found people among the nobles he felt were worthy of having his sisters' hand and twisted his parents (and targets) surreptitiously into his plan for the marriage. He did this as much as he could each of his sisters before his parents shipped him out at the age of fourteen. The only ones really sad to see him go were his sisters and, surprising, his father, how it turned out had always been at his mercy of his imperious mother. He at least knew that one parent had truly loved him. But it was too late now. He was off to magic school.

It was there that he found his true calling. He had always loved reading and the magic he had taught himself, but now he found that there was a whole world that he hadn't even known existed. It was then that he made the transformation from cunning third son to eager student mage. Any craftiness that he had shown while he had lived in his family's house was lost beneath the curiosity and happiness he now showed. Even as a student his curiosity was legendary, even infamous among his couleges at the Royal Erubran Academy of Magic. At the age of eighteen, he officially graduated from the university and was free to do as he wished. His sisters were first on his list, and they all planned a huge get-together to celebrate his graduation. At it, he was happy to learn that his sisters were all more than happy with their husbands, or at least the ones that were married. His youngest sister, only twelve, was still unmarried, and his parents were looking at forty year-old men as possible spouses for her. He had prepared to rush off to the family home when he learned that he didn't need too; his father was not on board this time. After seeing the truly loving marriages that his other daughters enjoyed (something rare among the noble class), he was determined to do the same for his youngest. As long as he was there, nothing could happen. For the first time since he began thwarting his parents, Ensyn didn't need to go off to save his younger siblings. He was free to really do as he chose. So he went back to the magic academies. This time, he followed his second oldest sister to Britania to study at the Britanian Magical University. All he had to do was study, experiment, and learn. And that's exactly what he did. Until, two years later, his home country invaded Britania to get closer to their mortal enemy, Tesr. And that lead to a nasty meeting with his brother, now Lt. General of the Royal Erubran Army. It hadn't been planned, that was for sure, but that didn't changed the fact that they met. His brother's snobbishness had gotten even worse since they had last met, and his new position only compounded the problem, meaning that Ensyn was thoroughly exhausted after only a few minutes of talking. He had been talking to the army mages, many of whom had been classmates of his at the Academy. Before his brother could go any further, Ensyn had gotten up to leave, but before he could make it to the door his brother dropped a bombshell; their father was dead, their eldest brother was the family head, and their youngest sister was missing. His brother was obviously suggesting that Ensyn had been somehow involved, but Ensyn was not in the mood. He had loved his father, he might have even cared about his mother. But... This couldn't be a coincidence. His father hadn't been old at all, barely over forty, so that had to mean some foul play was involved. And he had little doubt who had done it. But... He really couldn't go back to check. That was what they had wanted, anyway, for him to go running home to check on his sister like the good older brother he was. But he knew he didn't need to go back. It had to have been his father's last act, sending his daughter to safety. That way, Ensyn wouldn't have had to go back, which had been to prevent exactly what they were aiming for. So, as much as he wanted to go searching, he knew that he couldn't get ruin his father's last act. So, for now, he is staying at the Britania Magical University, just doing what he loved best. That is, until he gets a chance to do something.
