Full Name: Nathan Alshane

Nicknames: Nate (naturally)

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Sign: Virgo

Role: The Moon

Romantic Interest: ???

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Nationality: Fully American

Alignment: Neutral Good...?

Face Claim: Akama Yuto (Mikagura School Suite)

ImagePhysical Description/Clothing Preference:

Body type|| Stands at (a not so impressive) 161 cm, or roughly 5'3". He's actually pretty thin, though. So thin, in fact, that when bare-chested, he looks more muscular than he actually is.

Skin Tone|| Pretty pale, since he coops himself up indoors so much these days.

Hair|| Light brown, and very messy. Usually hangs over his left eye.

Eye Color|| Some bizarre cross between gray and brown.

Clothing/Attire|| Wears a dark gray T-shirt, and black pants with a white strip running down the outside of each leg. On top of that, he wears a white hooded jacket with a black interior and tan sleeves, and dark brown boots. The most bizarre part of his ensemble is his leopard-inspired hat.

Birthmark/Piercing/Tattoo/Scar/Noticeable Features: There isn't really anything that unusual about him, at least that he himself can tell.

Gift: Skilled at doing parkour, able to maneuver around places through leaps, vaults, and the like. It almost seems like the moment he sees a place and starts moving, he's already figured out how to get through it in the quickest (and flashiest) manner possible. No matter what new obstacles lay ahead of him, he can get around them all fluidly, without making it even seem like he's trying...or at least, he used to. He's horribly out of practice now.

Hobbies/Skills:
  • Playing video games (always of a Nintendo variety).
  • Parkour, of course!
  • Walking outdoors, usually in evening or nighttime hours. But never running, except when doing parkour.
  • Listening to music.
  • Drawing...?
  • Cracking bad jokes. Puns especially.
Personality: Nathan...is honestly really weird, to say the least. He almost never misses an opportunity to insert some joke, no matter how distasteful or stupid, into a conversation. (He will apologize almost immediately for it, though.) While he does take things seriously most of the time, the jokes still manage to come out, and it feels a little hard to make heads or tails of how much he actually cares.

But despite how much it'd seem like he'd try to make himself the center of attention...when in a big crowd, Nathan falls almost completely silent. And in fact, no matter who he's talking to, whether he's in a joking mood or a serious one, Nathan always seems to comment on flaws he thinks he has. The sheer number of times he calls himself "immature" is pretty surprising.

When alone, he frequently does a character re-assessment of himself, just to assure himself that he's not getting on anyone's bad side. It's almost as though to him, there is no middle ground between selfishness and self-disregard, or any of those flaws...

ImageLikes:
  • Lame jokes
  • Being outdoors
  • Video games, particularly Nintendo ones
  • Hanging out with friends, but preferably one-on-one
  • Anime-style art
  • Listening to music
  • Simply being accepted...

Dislikes:
  • Sports (Surprising? While Nathan likes being outdoors, he's still more of a "my pace" kind of guy. He doesn't like how much sports force him to work.)
  • Having his flaws pointed out by other people
  • Public speaking
  • Social events
  • His old classmates
  • Remembering things he did in the past, because the first few he thinks of had him acting "immaturely."
  • Being made fun of by...or worse, rejected by...others

Flaws: Really, even if one flaw isn't in this section, Nathan will probably accuse himself of having that flaw.
  • Way too self-critical
  • Socially awkward
  • Doesn't really understand himself
  • Can't really think of his own ideas
  • Cripplingly perfectionist
  • Lazy and unmotivated
  • Uses the cold shoulder way too much on anyone he hates...to the point where he can't even tell them he hates them.

Fears:
  • Being rejected by others
  • Screwing up...anything, really.
  • His own "immaturity"
  • Large crowds

Secrets:
  • Used to write fanfictions online, but doesn't anymore. He considers his writing trash now.
  • Sometimes puts his art online as well. Constantly envious of other peoples' cleaner computer-generated drawings, compared to his hand-drawn ones.
  • If put in the "Number 1" position for something, he usually asks that he be demoted to "Number 2."
  • A case sits in a corner of his room, but it has remained unopened for over a year. Inside is...a clarinet...?
  • He actually fakes a lot of smiles these days. The person he's trying hardest to deceive, though, might just be himself.

ImageBio: Growing up, Nathan had quite an average, unremarkable childhood. There wasn't really much to say...

But when high school came around, things started going wrong. Nathan started finding himself having more and more problems with one of his friends...that friend asked to be in his stories, and then complained when Nathan didn't give his character special powers...he complained when Nathan became the first chair clarinetist in band...he complained when Nathan managed to win in video games...and more often than not, if Nate tried to get on his bad side, he could expect a punch to the face or a threat that their friendship would end. Not even one year had passed before the two had a falling out.

After ignoring each other for the whole of sophomore year, Nathan finally decided to give that friend a chance again. However, everything just got that much worse. Once again, Nathan became the first chair clarinetist in his band, which should have meant that he would be asked to play all solo parts. However, his friend, who became second chair, argued about this once again. The band director claimed their skill levels were nearly equal, and thus, they should share those solo parts. Though Nathan didn't like it, he was worried about what the other clarinetist might do, and gave him the majority of the solo parts.

It didn't go as planned at all. When Nathan claimed he felt he would be better at one of the solos, the other clarinetist demanded to play that one--but Nathan didn't even give his consent before the other clarinetist played every last one of the solos. At the end of it, he even claimed Nathan should give him more solo parts. Enraged, Nathan started arguing once again, prompting the band director to start assigning them solos from then on.

But it only got worse...both clarinetists were far too loud, and Nathan kept blaming himself for any mistakes they made, believing that the other clarinetist would never try and fix those mistakes if he outright told that boy what he was doing wrong. And in the last concert, the other clarinetist, once again, played Nathan's solos, ignoring what the band director had told him. It was too much for Nathan, and he dropped out of the band for his senior year.

From that point on, Nathan tried to ignore the other boy while he walked through the halls and attended classes, but he soon found something big had changed--as if his mind urged him to, he started bringing up his own flaws more and more. And whenever that other clarinetist was around, he would throw a snide remark in Nathan's direction, as though his opinion was all that mattered. How selfish Nate was, how bad Nathan's writing was, how jealous Nathan should be of his girlfriend's drawings and how he should just quit trying to draw...

...and no matter how hard Nathan tried to ignore that boy, those constant insults worked. Gradually, Nathan distanced himself further and further away from people, quietly commenting that they probably thought he was "too immature for them." As his social circles kept shrinking, he found himself constantly getting distracted with wondering if he wasn't good enough. The constant self-doubt affected his parkour, too, and he found himself getting hurt frequently. They were only scrapes and bruises at best, lucky for him, but it was enough for him to stop doing it as well eventually.

Then, one day, Nathan found a strange letter in his mailbox...

Hospital Mental Evaluation: It's clear that Nathan suffers from some sort of depression--he even has admitted a few times that he was contemplating suicide. There were people to pull him back before, but since he's been trying to isolate himself from everyone he used to know, there's no telling what he might do next...

Other: Nathan keeps a dark blue 3DS with him. He has downloaded Kid Icarus Uprising, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Fire Emblem Awakening, and it also holds a physical copy of Pokemon Y. He actually has completed the games several times over (bar Animal Crossing, because it's a life simulator), and switches constantly to whichever game he feels like playing.

Lack of clarity — Tension — Doubt — Fantasy
Deception — Psychological conflict — Obscured vision
Confusion — Illusion — Fear — Imagination — Worry
Romanticism — Anxiety — Apprehension — Unrealistic ideas

So begins...

It was honestly quite interesting as to how quickly the situation in the dining room had deteriorated. The two males, silver-hair and black-hair, had seemed to be fighting over the a female. Rather, it seem more like the dark-haired male had just been wanting to pick a fight as a means of showing who should be the alpha male. Nonetheless, their argument had been making Rook's milk taste sour. Being in proximity of such a high-octane argument just simply ruined the, otherwise simplistic, mood of the evening. Rook was just about ready to leave the table when a large bang emitted, shaking the silverware and nearly spilling his glass, had he not quickly held it down. The source being the male with the animal-print hat. "Sorry. Bit of a stomach pain." He had said, before standing up and leaving the room. Now, Rook knew was no doctor, but it didn't take one to know that it was more than just a bit of stomach pain.

Following the sudden exit of the male, the female whom the two from before had been bickering over stood up as well. He didn't quite catch what she had said, but she did not look pleased. She picked up a bowl of dessert before following suit, and leaving the room. Rook turned back to the other two males as it seemed it was the turn of one more to exit stage left. "Well, I guess we all should get going. This grub is getting cold, anyways, and I hate cold food. Don't you?" This question put out by the male with darker-hair. He too spun around and left the room. Then there was the silvery male. He faced the rest of the people who had remained seated and, quite surprisingly, apologized for the event displayed before them.

As the silver-haired male walked out, Rook noticed the slight tinge of sadness contained within the voiced apology. Silently taking another sip from his cup, Rook noticed one more body leave the room. This one belonged to a girl with glasses, though it seemed like she left with no intention of making contact with the rest of the remaining occupants of the dinner. Perhaps she too is just not a people person. Rook thought to himself, finishing off his glass of milk.

Taking a quick glance around the table, Rook noted that there was but a remaining six who had yet to leave, if they had the intention to do so. Just then, Rook was corrected as another person, rather late, walked into the dining room followed by a small dog. Rook let out a rather long sigh and begun to fill his plate with food. With the exeunt of five people, the room felt both calmer yet suffocating. Rook considered himself to be one of the lucky ones. At least, for the time being. It appeared as though the person whom he was partnered with, Kay Ainsworth, was not among the many oddities of the group. Either that or he was the most odd. Rook stared at his now full plate with distaste. Despite having had nothing but a glass of milk, he felt rather full. Perhaps it was more apt to say he had simply lost his appetite. He pushed his plate forwards before leaning his chair backwards so that two of its legs were suspended in the air. "Well, for better or worse, at least it feels a bit calmer here." He voiced aloud, "I didn't know what to expect from a school for 'gifted' people, but it sure as hell wasn't this. Then again, I guess you could consider such absurd levels of stupidity a gift in its own right."

That escalated awfully fast, Chess thought as she bit down on her fork. Her mind was reeling, wondering if she should attempt to chase after Nathan or strike up conversation with whoever else was left in the room. By the looks of it though, no one was really interested in talking. Belphagor had completely ignored her attempt at polite conversation, further engaging Cassandra who seemed a bit repulsed by him. Then Samuel attempted to jump in to the poor girl's rescue, but was quickly ridiculed by the French female who insisted she need not be saved by a night in shining armor. The commotion was causing the flavors and colors in her eyes and tongue to run rampant and Chess could no longer eat for fear a sound would throw off her taste and wreak havoc to her delicate senses. The situation was already out of control and Chess had a feeling that one more outburst would cause a sensory overload.

So she left, placing her fork and knife on top of her plate in order to alert whoever was cleaning that she was finished. Chess pushed her chair in and headed towards the doors, going to find Nathan and see if he was alright. It took a bit of searching before she finally spotted the boy and sat down beside him. "Are you alright?" Chess asked and reached into her bag for the bottle of unopened water she had taken for the journey this morning. "Here, this might help." She offered the bottle to him, placing it on the floor between them and sitting quietly against the wall.

Outside, the air was cool and clear beneath the evening sky. Sounds of insects buzzed about, the winds not strong enough to stifle them. To be sure, the grounds still looked nice, even if it was dark out...but Nathan wasn't in a mood to enjoy them.

Came here to escape one jerk, ended up with two more... Letting out a long sigh, he slowly laid himself back onto the stones leading up to the door. What was I expecting, really? It's just going to be the same thing all over again, isn't it...? How could I ever expect 'starting over' would work? He was too distraught to hear approaching footsteps.

"Are you alright?"

Startled by the voice, Nathan looked up at the voice. It took him a moment later to recognize the pitch and the accent--Chess was there, looking at him while he was sprawled on the ground in the most undignified manner possible.

Wait, no-- Just when she was turning away to look through her bag, Nathan realized his face probably still looked angry or something and scrambled to put a smile on his face. When Chess turned back towards him to place a water bottle on the ground, a short distance from his head, he was sure his smile was back on perfectly. (It sure as hell wasn't.)

"Oh, yeah....thanks," he replied, reaching up and taking the bottle. "Heh heh...I guess I was affected a bit more by, uh, t-the plane than I thought, huh?" Unscrewing the cap, he raised it to his lips and turned it upwards...only to jump back and let out a yell when he realized he angled it a bit too far downward, causing water to spill onto his shirt. Geez, it was cold!

Still, the gesture was nice. After taking a proper drink from the bottle, Nathan capped it again and stood up. "But, um, yeah...thanks for that. I mean, I didn't think I'd, uh...get stomach pains here. Um...sorry for leaving so suddenly back there." He really didn't know what he was saying at all, but kept trying to convince himself that he was making a good impression.

His stomach let out a small growl, causing Nathan to realize he hadn't actually eaten much before getting the hell out of dodge--and he was usually a big eater. But all the same, if those two are still going around...

"Hey, before you came to find me, did, you know, those two...boys...stop fighting?" he asked hesitantly.

Chess nodded to him, "no problem," she said, straightening and listening to the sound of crickets chirp gently in the breeze. A gentle breeze wafted between them and the taste and sound of the sea calmed her mind. "Happens to the best of us," it was true, Chess had seen a number of passengers get sick on the plane she had taken to get here. The water taxi not so much since it had only been her and the Captain.

"I left when the tension in the room became too much, but if you'd like I'll go back with you?" He was already standing so there was no need to offer a hand up. "We can also stop somewhere so you can get a new shirt?" If she had brought a napkin she would have offered it to him, but unfortunately her usefulness could only go so far. "I don't think the dorms are too far away," plus their stuff was already there so it wasn't like it was inconvenient.

"I think they were going to serve ice cream for dessert, by now the dining room should be pretty empty, I think."

After considering for a moment, Nathan decided it wasn't worth going back to the dining hall, even if he was still hungry. "No, it's...fine," he replied, ignoring another stomach growl. "I think I killed the mood myself, probably...heh..."

Suddenly, it felt hard to smile now. Thinking he couldn't keep it up, Nathan quickly started walking, moving past Chess and back into the mansion. "I...I probably should head to my room for the night, all things considered," he declared. "Well...no one told me where it is, though, so I'll probably have to search for a while. If you feel like coming with me, that's fine...not that I know if you would." However, he didn't actually turn around to make sure she was following.

But as Nathan approached a set of stairs, he caught a glimpse of a rather bizarre sight behind a nearby open door. Pens, papers, and other art materials were scattered in the space beyond the door. From the looks of it, things had been drawn on the papers. "What the...how did this happen...?" he wondered, immediately bending down to pick it up. "Well, it's a shame to see artwork get trampled..."

He froze as he stared at the scene on the paper in his hands. It appeared to be a drawing of outer space, done in nothing but simple pencil. But something didn't make sense. He was no serious art expert, but this...the sheer amount of detail in the atmospheres of each planet, all the stars that were drawn in without looking simply like lazily-forgotten gaps in shading...it seemed impossible. "...you've gotta be kidding me," Nathan muttered, his hands lowering. "This is...amazing. Who made it, though..."

As it turned out, the answer was nearby as well. It was that girl with the headphones, who those two jerks had been fighting over. She was muttering to herself in her strangely musical accent, seeming quite angry as she picked up the mess. Among other things, ice cream and wine sat nearby. Wait...is SHE the artist?!

Nathan found himself only able to stare with a baffled expression, before he finally reminded himself that he should probably help. Quickly, he picked up some more of the sheets around himself, as well as the artistic tools scattered among them. "Hey..." he called, standing up when he had picked up all the ones in his immediate area. "Um...are these things yours?" He walked forward, holding out the sheets and the writing--no, drawing utensils...

A stray pen just happened to be beneath his shoe.

With a shout, Nathan toppled off balance and landed on his back, the artwork and pencils he had worked so hard to gather up flying everywhere. Man, can I ever get a break? he wondered, rubbing his now-aching back.

It felt as though Nathan were eager to get away. He seemed to stumble over himself and Chess wasn't sure if he was clumsy or a bit daft. She watched him leave, taking the bottle of water she had given him with her. "Am I really that repulsive?" Chess thought once he was out of earshot and looked down. It almost appeared as though she were going to cry, but instead Chess looked up and balled her hands into fists in an almost comical display of determination. It was just first day blues, she was sure, Chess would get over it. Even if she had been rejected by the only semi decent person on the campus.

Chess walked back towards the dining room, glad to see that things had calmed down and they were serving dessert. She dug in to a delicious bowl of ice cream, convinced that tomorrow would be better. Was it naive? Possibly, but Chess liked to remain optimistic because really it was the only thing she had. In perspective Chess had no control over her life so her personality was the one thing she could determine herself.

Chess's watch beeped, startling the girl. She dropped her spoon into the bowl, realizing that she had been eating mindlessly and the bowl was empty. Chess looked down, checking the time, her blue eyes widening quite a bit. Her medicine! Time sensitive drugs to ensure that her body did not reject her lungs. Quickly Chess dug through her bag, searching for the pill keeper she was forced to have on her at all times. "Aha!" Chess poured the handful of colorful pills into her palm and looked around, grabbing a glass of water that had been set out in front of her and chugging it down with the medicine.

It left a foul taste in her mouth, little green squares danced at the edge of her vision. Yes she had always hated the taste of pills, but what could one do? Unless she convinced the pharmacy to begin coating them in colorful shells... Maybe she should ask her dad if they did that, then again it would be senseless since the whole thing was just going to dissolve in her stomach. Thankfully, her stomach couldn't tell what color food was.

Chess swung her legs a bit on the chair, she had always been short but these seats were a new level of ridiculous, they were so tall that Chess was having a rather hard time reaching the floor. Her toes barely swept the bottom. With a sigh Chess hopped off of her seat and looked around. Should she stay? Or go? After one final minute of contemplation Chess chose to leave and turned to exit the dining hall.

As she knelt on the carpet she continued to mutter, her hands reaching for stray bits of paper and dislodged pens and pencils. After a moment or two she sighed and slumped back against the wall, eyes lazily tracing over the items still littering the floor down towards the door she’d came in from. She reached for her bottle again and gulped a few more mouthfuls before giving the bottle a shake to see how much she’d actually drank so far. The answer came more from the fuzziness from her vision for a moment or two before she tilted sideways to lie on her side for a moment, her eyes glancing at the remaining items she’d need to pick up sooner or later.

Stretching a little she set the bottle down properly as she could tell she’d almost spilled what was left when she’d given up to lie down. She was moving slowly across the floor, half throwing half rolling items back towards where she’d been sat and where she’d left her bag. From the end she saw movement and looked up at a familiar looking boy who greeted her nervously before slipping and tumbling backwards to the ground. Her reaction to this was to dart backwards, jumping up and losing her balance as well and crashing loudly onto her backside.

“Merde!” She cried out when she landed and groaned as her tailbone sent a shock of pain up her back. Lying there for a moment as she felt dizzy from the drink and sudden movement and chuckling as stars filled her vision. Sitting up slowly she looked at the boy, who she remembered had been sitting to her right and suggesting she try some food if she wasn’t mistaken.

She sat there for a little bit, head in hands, wondering if drinking most of a full bottle might not have been the best plan and perhaps spacing it out would certainly have helped. “Yes, they are.” She muttered as she stood and walked over to the prone boy, offering a hand for him to get back up. “You alright?”

Taking the girl's hand and pulling himself, Nathan rubbed his back again, wincing slightly. "Yeah...n-nothing's broken, anyway," he replied, readjusting his hat and smoothing down his jacket. "Too bad I dropped everything...hang on, I'll help pick it up."

Bending down, he started trying to clean up the scattered art supplies again. This time, though, he was a bit more careful and thorough, so as not to leave another stray pen out for himself to slip on. It was still utterly astonishing, looking at the artwork...was this girl just very talented, or had she been taking lots of art classes? Maybe she could even...

No, Nathan, it's best not to think about that now. She'd probably throw up if you tried to compare her work to yours.

That annoying voice in his head just wouldn't stop spouting the negative comments. "So...um, what are you doing out here? Is it...was it really so bad in there?" Nathan asked, trying to distract himself yet again. Aside from those two jerks, he recalled Chess saying how the tension in the room went far too high. How many people left the room because of that?

It occurred to him that he should also introduce himself to the artist girl. Wasn't it the polite thing to do, after all? Come on, idiot, try not to make this conversation trainwreck.

"Oh, that's right...I'm Nathan, by the way," the boy added, briefly tapping the stack of paper in his hands to the floor in order to straighten it up a little. "Hope I don't get on your nerv...uh, I mean, that we get along nicely."

After helping the boy to his feet he apologised to her for some reason, even if his falling had startled her she was the one who’d made her fall, but as he started to pick up her items it dawned on her what he’d been getting at. Muttering thanks she knelt to help him they gathered everything up and looked down a little as he asked about her fleeing, even if he hadn’t been there or most likely because of that.

She shrugged in response as she dropped everything back into her backpack before looking back at him as he introduced himself and chuckling at his final comment she held out her hand properly in greeting.

“Cassandra… Cassie. You’ve caused me a bit of pain in the ass but I won’t hold it against you since we’ve just met.” She smiles and chuckles a little before turning round after swinging her backpack over both shoulders and picking up the almost empty tub of ice cream and the now quarter or less full bottle of wine. She lifts the bottle to her lips and drains the last of its contents before walking slowly towards the door leading back out onto the atrium with plans to head up to her room and maybe get some sleep.

“I should have offered you some… but the ice creams gone or melted and well… I’ve drank the wine.” She giggles a little before coughing as she tries to make herself more stable and smiling sheepishly at Nathan. “Do you have any idea where our rooms are… I never thought to ask; now I don’t know where my chest is.” Her smile had vanished to be replaced with a frown and a faint almost unnoticeable wetness at the corner of her eyes, turning from Nate she moved through the door into the atrium proper.

Accepting the handshake, Nathan wondered just what he had done to cause Cassandra "a bit of pain in the ass", but he couldn't really think of anything. Oh well, the important thing was that she didn't hate him...right? He just responded with a small smile, as she picked up her things...

...which included, to Nathan's utter shock, a wine bottle. "Wait...uh, t-they gave us wine?" he asked, staring at the bottle with a baffled expression. "Weird...I'm pretty sure I'm underage, even outside America..."

Setting that topic aside, he followed Cassandra into an atrium and scowled slightly. "They didn't tell me where my room was, either. Maybe they intended to bring us there after dinner was over...which didn't work, at least not for us." There were quite a few floors here, too, and several doorways on each floor. "We're going to have to do a lot of searching, I reckon. Uh...let's try going this way!"

Needless to say, nothing quite went correctly for the next few minutes, and Nathan found himself and Cassandra getting lost multiple times. By some dumb coincidence, they kept ending up in the same atrium repeatedly, too. Luckily, after a while, they managed to figure out which hallways they had traversed before, and were able to backtrack and head to a different hallway instead.

At one point, however, as the strange duo rounded another corner, they found a certain girl with auburn pigtails walking towards them. "Huh? Oh...uh, hey, Chess," Nathan greeted her, realizing sheepishly that he had completely stopped paying attention to whether she had been following or not. "Yeah...I...no, uh, we--" He quickly gestured to Cassandra here. "--couldn't find our rooms, as you could tell. Heh..."

Chess had left the dining room and was wandering in the hallway. The texture of the walls left a nice taste in her mouth and so she was running her fingers across the cool stone, wondering if she was ever going to be able to find the dorms in this enormous place all by herself. Chess stopped upon reaching an atrium of some sorts, turning in circles as she looked up in awe. This campus really was beautiful and she wondered how out of all the people in the world she had been chosen for this opportunity. Of course Chess was also beginning to realize it wasn't as great as it seemed. Stuck on an island with a lunatic, some sort of ex con, and a bunch of socially awkward kids is not how she imagined her first year of high school.

Still it was better than the all girl's boarding school Chess was supposed to attend. Her parents had figured that since her health wasn't failing it was about time they sent her to the school her mother had attended and her grandmother before her. It wasn't anything more than a small school in the countryside of France dedicated to teaching women to be proper young girls. Chess had absolutely no interest in such a place and so when the mysterious tarot card showed up on her doorstep along with an invitation the female hadn't even hesitated. Her parents had, of course, been very worried. However Chess convinced them that she would be fine, she wasn't like the other girls in her grade that enjoyed showing off their-erm-assets. Not that Chess really had any to show off in the first place, she was as flat as a board and skinny as a rail.

In the end Chess had made quite the convincing argument and so her parents could not refuse, seeing as how passionate their daughter was to attend this school none of them knew anything about. Lost in thought, Chess hadn't realized that she had stopped walking until a certain boy nearly bumped into her. This time he had a girl in tow, the one from the cafeteria that had run out after Samuel and Belphagor began to argue on her behalf.

"Ah, Nathan. What a lovely surprise, Miss Cassandra it is a pleasure running into you again as well." So Nathan's true character was revealed. It seems he was the type to jump from girl to girl, possibly trying to get to know them all before settling on one. Of course this could just be Chess's imagination as he had seemed so sweet and sincere during their first encounter.

"Unfortunately I haven't had much luck myself. If you'd like though, six eyes is better than four?" It was her way of asking to tag along, Chess was not the type to admit that she actually needed help unless the situation was dire.

Cassandra had followed Nate somewhat fuzzily through the maze-like interior of the mansion, not really focused on where exactly they were heading but after a little while the route had started to seem familiar to her. Her view of the world was a little unsure as she felt the alcohol sloshing around her head, making her think she’d maybe been a little rash in finishing the bottle. She was giving her head gentle shakes while half muttering under her breath, even knowing it was barely making a difference. She was so caught up trying to clear her thoughts that she walked straight into Nate as he greeted someone ahead of them. Peeking weirdly around him Cassie stared at a weirdly orange blur for a few moments before clearing to reveal the girl who’d been sat on Nate’s right when they’d been seated.

“Um… Er Hey.” She mumbled, half raising her hand to wave before realising she was still carrying the empty bottle and the sight of it caused her to jerk slightly. A soft hick of air escaped her lips causing her to blush slightly before continuing. “Your name was, Chess?” She asked a little unsure, her voice a little unsteady as she battled between sobriety and drunkenness.

Before Nathan could even think of a response, he let out a yelp as he was shoved forwards a few inches. Looking back, he saw Cassandra awkwardly giving a greeting with the hand which held that wine bottle. Oh, geez, she must be drunk, huh...uh...should I steady her? No, wait, she might consider that rude or something...but what if she ends up crashing into something again? Uh, uh, uh, crap, uh...

"Uh, y-yeah, that's right...t-this is Chess," he stuttered, trying to get his bearings straight again. Man, why do I panic so goddamn easily...? "And, uh, yeah...y-you can come with us, Chess. Even though...you'd think we'd have found it by now, heh..."

Looking around, he tried to remember which way they had been going before meeting Chess. Wait, but that was the way from which she came, and she couldn't find it either...maybe it'd be that way, then? "Hm...maybe we should try this way?" Nathan suggested, pointing in the direction Chess had originally been walking towards. "I don't think we passed that one earlier, after all..."

He started to walk in the indicated direction, but paused briefly to consider something. Finally, he let out a sigh, mentally steeled himself for any possible tongue-lashing he'd receive, and took Cassandra's hand in his own. Then he started pulling her along, trying not to be too forceful. With the artist being somewhat drunk, it was probably a good idea to guide her.

"Okay then...come on, Chess," Nathan called, actually turning back to make sure she was coming along this time. As he kept walking, he wondered if he should try talking with either girl some more...but couldn't even think of a single thing to talk about.

Chess lifted her hand to wave in greeting at the other girl, giving a bit of a shy shake of her palm more than anything. She narrowed her eyes at the bottle in Cassandra's grip, wondering how the other female had managed to get alcohol on the campus. Of course Chess should have suspected something like this would happen sooner or later, teenagers were teenagers after all and they were naive. To get drunk on the first day though? They had hardly been here for three hours and already Chess had seen fights break out, students running off together, and now a girl drunk off her rocker. The smaller girl shook her head and sighed, wondering what society had come to but made no mention or indication that she had noticed the empty alcohol container.

Instead Chess followed Nathan, going down the direction he had pointed to. "This place is a lot bigger than the building lets on," Chess mentioned casually, walking with her hands swinging at her sides. If only Chess had paid more attention upon arrival, then maybe she would know where to find one of those butlers that could lead them to their rooms.

The path took them down a long hallway, Chess continued to run her fingers along the wall, wondering how they were ever supposed to find anything here. Maybe they should have started this off by giving them all a tour, that way tomorrow they would know where to go for classes. At this point it seemed as though none of them would show up for anything, seeing as how no one knew where anything was. Or maybe a few students did know? After the display Chess had seen in the dining hall though she hardly doubted anyone was willing to help one another. Another sigh escaped her, this was going to be a lot harder than she had anticipated.

As the wandered through the halls Cassandra heard the other girl comment about the endless nature of the building and nodded her agreement. Though the sudden movement of her head seemed rather ill advised given the surge of dizziness it caused, even if much reduced from what it had been a little earlier.

“So far formal schooling has been less than appealing, would either of you agree?” Her voice had regained its more lyrical tone, even though it was slightly tinged with her diminishing intoxication. “I wonder if this is similar elsewhere? I have so little, I believe the word is ‘understanding’? No, experience perhaps? School is rather unknown for me.”

She smiled from the red haired girl back to the awkward boy and shrugged as if to back up her statements, her overall bearing having settled back into being somewhat sheepish though her cheeks were still quite flushed and her breath rather alchoholic.

Guessing which direction to travel in next was really getting old, and Nathan's legs were actually starting to hurt a little from all the walking. "Ugh...yeah, if you ask me, this place is WAY too big," the boy agreed, glancing around an intersection of hallways before deciding to move left. "They could have at least given us a map, though..."

At the very least, the fact that Cassandra wasn't flipping out from getting dragged along--especially by quite possibly the most socially awkward boy in all of existence--was a good sign. Instead, even in her drunk state, she just kept talking as if things were normal, only slightly slurring her words.

"Well...what they've got going here is definitely is different from what I had in America, I can say that much," Nathan replied, looking around another corner and banking right this time. "Over there, the teachers actually are decent enough to meet their students in person. And it's a lot noisier." He paused for far too long before adding, "And, uh, I think saying 'understanding' in this context does make sense...I think." Great. Yay for redundancy.

Presently, they reached a flight of stairs. Hm...I dunno why, but I have a feeling that the place we're looking for is up there... But as Nathan gazed up at it, he thought of something that made him even more worried. Crap, will Cassandra trip over the stairs? Oh, geez, um, uh, um, um...should I carry her, maybe? N-no, that's way worse than just pulling her along! I shouldn't...oh, screw it, I've already done at least five stupid things within one night anyway.

His face flushed, Nathan released Cassandra's hands...before bending down, putting his hands around her waist (while she was behind him), and lifting her up onto his back. And almost immediately, he started to topple over. "Whoa! Ah! Oh, crap--" Somehow, he ended up with his face planted against the railing on the side of the staircase...but still on his feet.

...I don't even know what I'm doing anymore... Letting out a long sigh, half of relief and half of exasperation, Nathan pulled himself away from the railing and slowly started to ascend the stairs. "...this is already way more close body contact than I'm comfortable with..." he muttered. By the time they reached the top of the stairs, Nathan was exhausted--and yes, he wished he even lifted. But as he struggled to move around the next corner, he noticed something strange about this hallway...

Slowly straightening up his body to let Cassandra stand on her own (but still keeping her hand in his own), he approached one of the doors and frowned. There seemed to be some kind of image drawn upon it--an image of a boy in flowering robes, with a bag tied to a staff which was held over his right shoulder, and a flower in his left hand. He was standing upon a rocky cliff, with the ocean spraying up below him, and a very tiny...dog?...rearing up next to him. At the bottom was written the words, "THE FOOL."

"This looks oddly familiar...no, wait..." Quickly searching his pockets, Nathan found what he was looking for in the left pocket of his pants. Taking out the Moon card, he held it up in front of the door. Yes, the styles seemed to be the same. Then, that probably meant...

Looking around, he saw that the other doors in the hallways were marked similarly. Soon enough, he saw a door with the same image as the Moon, at the far end of the hallway. "Could these be...our rooms?" Nathan wondered, taking out the key which he had received. Raising it to the lock on the Moon door, he pushed it in and turned it counterclockwise. It worked perfectly, and he pushed the door open.

"Well...looks like we found my room, at least," Nathan murmured, turning around to face the girls. "Hey...you guys know which of these--" he held up the Moon card for them to see. "--you have, right?"

They were walking in a group now, the three of them. All was quiet at first, then Nathan felt it necessary to make conversation. Chess was perfectly alright with the silence, she found that at times silence was appropriate. Obviously not everyone felt the same way, but then again Chess was very odd. "They could have done a lot of things differently." Chess agreed, wishing that the school would have taken a different approach to the introduction. It was nice of them to do that whole video thing and all but what they really needed were maps or at the very least signs to point them in the right direction. Even the worst of schools had some sort of directory in the front or a staff member that could help a lost student locate a classroom.

"So you've never gone to school?" Chess turned to Cassandra, eyeing the older girl curiously. She knew that there were unfortunate circumstances where children did not have the opportunity to attend school. However, how did one get into a high school if they had no formal primary school education? "Were you perhaps, home schooled?" Chess asked, then quickly added, "You don't have to answer if you don't want to. I'm just curious." Chess herself had a rather unorthodox schooling due to the fact that she had quite often been sick and had attended school via Skype or would simply go to the little school room in the hospital rather than tune into her classroom.

It was then that they arrived at the dorms. Chess pulled out the card from her bag, The Empress, it read with a sort of impressionist take on an Empress. She held the card up to a door with a matching title and heard the lock click. Oh, so this must be her room then. Chess pushed the door open and glanced inside; her bags were there, waiting beside the bed. It was quite a spacious place and Chess could tell that once she unpacked and hung all of her pictures up she was going to like it. For now though it felt a bit lonely.

Screams erupted from the courtyard of the gigantic mansion. If one got close to the origin of the terrified, pained shrieking, they would see a boy in a leopard hat, cradling a tiny girl with auburn pigtails.

Even though they were the sources of the noise, the girl had her hands over her ears, shrieking incomprehensibly. Her eyes were wide and staring up at the sky, which had decided to be cruel and shine with the clearest blue it ever had been. For his part, the boy was asking desperately what the matter was, unable to figure out the problem himself. A look of utter panic was frozen on his face, and tears were appearing in his eyes.

"...Chess...C-Chess...!" he wailed, completely overwhelmed. "Please...j-just tell me you're okay...c-can you hear me? It's Nathan! A-answer me, please!"

"...you're so immature, Nathan!"
"You really don't know how to treat girls...at all, do you?"
"We got called out for
your mistake...again. Get it right, moron!"
"Wait up, asshole! What are you rushing ahead for...?!"
"Evidently, you don't spend any time...or effort."
"It's all your fault, you...Look what your selfishness caused this time...!"

Slowly, as though he wasn't even sure he was all there, Nathan opened his eyes. The plain white ceiling of his room in the Gifted Academy was there to greet him, rather than an inconsiderately bright and clear sky, and the curtains were drawn, dimming the room.

The blanket was down to his waist and crumpled in several places. Pain and fatigue was all over his body like an animal. It was worst in his throat, which felt like a hedgehog had crawled through it. Evidently, he hadn't slept well last night at all.

Was it seriously just yesterday...? Nathan thought solemnly, staring up at the ceiling without moving. It already feels like years since...Chess.......left. The waterworks immediately sprange to life, and tears started to flow from the corners of his eyes. Despite getting incredibly sad many times before, he had very rarely cried, but now...

He could still remember it, even now...how he and Chess had been walking and chatting that afternoon. He had decided he should get some fresh air, since cooping yourself up in your room and playing video games the whole time wasn't very pleasant--especially if you kept thinking about all the bad qualities of yourself. It had been a very beautiful day out; the air was warm, and a gentle breeze flew through the air. Many flowers, of varying colors and shapes, bloomed around them as they walked through the courtyard. But then...

Clenching his teeth, Nathan couldn't help letting out an unusually loud sob. He didn't even care if it was "wimpy" or "childish" anymore; he just couldn't contain himself. Even though his mind tried to replay the entire scene, he managed to skip that particular part of his memory.

After a few minutes of that terrifying sight, Chess fainted, and Nathan desperately searched out people to help her. He didn't even know if she was breathing that whole time. He even tried CPR, not even caring how horrendous he was at it, but he had no idea if it helped. At last, he ran into a butler, who took Chess away and told Nathan she would be fine. But Nathan was not allowed to follow, and was left in a frightened, despairing state as he waited for news.

Late that evening, when Nathan was sitting outside of the entrance where Chess had handed him that water bottle, another servant arrived and quietly told him what had happened. She had suffered a sensory overload from entering the courtyard, but they had managed to get her to a hospital on the mainland in time to save her. However, no one knew when...or if...she would be back...

That means...it's all my fault...

The sound of knuckles on the door pierced the silence. "Mr. Alshane." It was a maid's voice. Great. "You are late for class. Please come down as soon as possible." After that, he heard the maid's footsteps as she strode briskly away from his room.

Oh, right...class starts today... Gingerly yet sluggishly, Nathan lifted himself out of bed, raising a hand to weakly wipe away the tears. As he shifted his weight off the bed and onto his feet, he almost immediately staggered to the ground. However, he managed to catch himself on the bed, and support himself enough to stand. It felt like he had no energy to do anything now, and was left with nothing but the feelings of worthlessness he had been carrying for years.

Picking up the same outfit which he had worn on the first day, he pulled on the shit, jacket and pants clumsily, leaving many wrinkles in each component of his ensemble. The full-body mirror on the wall showed that his hair was an utter mess, and even his leopard hat didn't manage to completely conceal it. Dark rings surrounded his eyes, and he looked as though he had aged quite a few years since last observing his reflection. And on top of it all, I have to deal with the other students...I don't think I can even manage a smile today... Rubbing his eyes, he tried his best to put on that "friendly expression," but it looked so hollow that he felt like crying all over again.

Walking on trembling legs across the room, he picked up a backpack and slung it over one shoulder, not bothering to check its contents. It felt like it weighed tons anyway. Stumbling to the door, he pulled it open and stepped out, closing the door behind him. He completely forgot to lock it.

But as he shuffled through the hallways, his throat felt as though it had been pierced by a knife. Instantly, Nathan buckled and let out several coughs, wincing. Looking down at the hand with which he had covered his mouth, he saw with relief that there was no blood or other residue on it. That was a good sign...for the moment, at least. I just hope...I can make it through the day...

By some dumb luck, he found the classroom where Study Hall was taking place soon afterward. Pushing the door open, he tried not to look too upset or tired as he made his way inside. Unfortunately, his condition wasn't getting any better. Spots appeared in his vision at times, and he even thought it completely blurred at various points. With his head pounding, Nathan finally couldn't keep the act any longer and stumbled to what he thought was an open desk, and bent down to sit...but in his daze, he had completely failed to realize that there was a certain girl with pale violet hair sitting in that chair.

The next moment, Nathan rebounded off of something and crashed to the floor, and combined with the headache, his entire perception swirled into chaos. There was nothing he could do but lie there, groaning weakly...

If it wasn't for the lack of activity and Hakon's own slight awareness of the room he was in, he wouldn't have noticed so the fallen leopard headed male that was walking toward Lou looking more like a sleep deprived zombie than an actual human being. He nearly bounded out of his chair and onto the desk beside him out of surprise, but instead bounded onto the floor on all fours next to the Leopard capped boy.

The green made that familiar, curious chirping noise again as he pawed like a curious lion cub at the groaning male on the floor in hopes for some sort of response. "Sie bitte.* You know it ist not gut to sleep on zee floor vithout proper pillows und varmth." he said, now starting to shake the boy and roll him over onto his back. He made a meowing like noise as he started to pace around him, never leaving his four legged mode of locomotion. Every now and again, he would poke a claw at him on his arm, side or what ever was in reach, hoping to get some sort of response out of him.

*Sie bitte. = Excuse me.
