ABILITIES
The Park family has a history of special abilities that manifest more as mental gifts rather than physical abilities. Gene's father is a telepath, able to get into the minds of others. His mother could see the futures of others, and his sister can manipulate dreams. He follows in this vein with the ability to tinker with the inhibitions of others. Everyone has inhibitions of some sort, no matter how impulsive or wild they may claim to be. They are the restraints that keep people from being savage and acting purely on instinct. Self control is a basic part of humanity, and Gene is capable of destroying this to some extent. Much like the God of Wine, Dionysus, his power deals with frenzies of sort. Just as alcohol can give people courage, it can drive people to the point of madness. This duality is prevalent in Gene's ability to remove inhibitions. He may do so and allow someone to speak freely or act confidently in the spotlight. Or he may enable someone to act on aggressive inclinations without something to hold them back. It depends on the current desires and urges of the people before him.
How far this removal goes also depends greatly on those before him. While he has not yet met someone who is completely immune to his ability, the degree to which people act on instinct depends on the self control of the person themselves, or the restraint they have on specific urges they may currently be feeling. As in varying degrees of drunkenness, someone may simply become more talkative or inclined towards foolishness, or they may become inclined to pick fights, steal, or attempt sexual assault. Unfortunately, once Eugene has used his power, he is out of the picture. How the person acts and how long the state lasts does not depend on him, but on them. He can create a monster, but he cannot control them. And as is the nature of all things, he cannot undo what has been done. That relies on the mental state of the person themselves.

APPEARANCE
Eugene takes more after his paternal grandfather than either of his parents, having inherited his height from him. He stands at 6'1", trumping his own father by several inches. This height is supported by a semi-muscular frame, a rather new development since he moved to New York and began doing odd jobs for money. Before now, he has always been rather thin and lanky, never quite filling out to compliment his height. He still has that mop of black hair that sticks out every which way each morning when he wakes up, and has to be combed into submission or else allowed to run wild. He doesn't cut his hair quite as often as he'd like, and when he does usually asks a friend or takes on the task himself, leaving him with a rather choppy cut. His eyebrows are as dark as his hair and can verge on the thicker side, giving him a rather expressive look that always seems to teeter between judgement and amusement. Of course, the true tell of his feelings is his mouth, often turned up into a smile as a default expression.
Generally speaking, Eugene will wear what he can get his hands on, though he has a fondness for long sleeves. He has a single pair of shoes that are starting to tear to the point that something needs to be done, and two pairs of jeans worn nearly every day.

{ "One can be the master of what one does, but never of what one feels." }
xxxxOn the softer side of him, he is prone to long ramblings and stream of conscious humor. Eugene enjoys the company of others and will gladly welcome people into his tiny apartment. This is the part of him which he tries to put forward with an ever present, if occasionally slightly forced, smile and quirked up eyebrows. He'd rather be seen as cheerful than mysterious, better bright than dark. But of course he has seen things in his brief life, and light always casts some amount of shadows.
xxxxHis flexibility and spontaneity may come off as fun and light to an extent, but soon give away to the reality of someone who is flighty and not immune to nervousness. Eugene will hold someone close at one moment and at an arm's length the next, something which stems from his perception of his own inferiority. Believing himself to be worth less for lack of education and for misdeeds committed in the past, the young man tends to internally put himself down in small, subtly biting ways. He's afraid that people will look too closely and notice his countless flaws: pettiness, bitterness, flightiness, etc.
xxxxThis internal frustration prompts his mean streak, which bares its fangs every so often. It is when someone self-righteous makes him feel lowly, and he acts on impulse to bring them down to what he believes is his level by removing their restraint. It is a sudden harsh word shattering a perfectly decent conversation. It is disappearing for days without giving any notice of where he is going or when he'll be back. He can anger like a child, and act with the illogical indignity of one. He wants to help others, certainly, but second-guesses his ability to help even himself in serious situations.
xxxxThese actions seem as though to protect a perpetually wounded pride that has nearly kicked the bucket. It is perhaps the only part of himself he'll lash out to protect, normally having a poor sense of self-preservation. It takes a certain belief in one's self to ensure that one doesn't hurt themselves, and he doesn't always have this. He is the first to volunteer for dangerous tasks because better him to fall than anyone else, as far as Eugene is concerned. It isn't a delusion of martyrdom- it's an inward looking hypercritical eye.

Eugene has always found the intimacy of parties to be comforting, especially when people are drinking so he doesn't have to worry about accidentally affecting someone. Although he never went to school beyond the sixth grade, Eugene is a lover of books, and in particular is fond of anything to do with Greek Mythology. And of course, he didn't need to go to school to learn how to cook, which is perhaps his favorite pastime despite often lacking decent ingredients. Anything with mushrooms in it suits him well. He's inclined towards erratic hours, leaving him fond of walks at strange hours. He's also partial towards spontaneity, and gets along best with people more inclined towards extroversion.
DISLIKES
Although he finds something comforting in the fact that people willingly yield control to alcohol, he himself is not a fan of becoming drunk, partially because it makes his abilities go haywire. And truth be told, he's not really a fan of his powers in the first place. They've always made others uncomfortable, and eventually this made an impression on him. And yet he uses them almost too easily, due to the influence of his father, whom he'd prefer to ignore the existence of. When people look down on him he has the nasty habit of bringing them down a notch by reminding them of their base instincts. Unfortunately this leads to some sticky situations and doesn't fly well with some of the other gifted. He's glad to be back in New York after several years in the south because he's not a fan of the heat.

✤ Bites his lower lip whilst thinking
✤ Erratic Sleeping Patterns
✤ Tendency To Have His Hands Constantly Out of Sight- In Pockets or Hidden Behind Crossed Arms.
TALENTS | STRENGTHS
✤ Cooking | When Eugene was young, he could often be found in the kitchen with his mom, who loved to cook. He grew up learning recipes from her and experimenting with his own until she died. For a while after that, he didn't cool unless told to. However, now that he has gained a sense of independence and distance from his father, he has begun to find warmth in preparing meals and desserts. Most part time jobs he works are at restaurants.
✤ Bilingual | The child of Korean Immigrants, it makes sense that Eugene is fluent in both Korean and English. Many say that growing up speaking more than one language leads to greater creativity and flexibility, and perhaps that is true. He more frequently speaks English than Korean these days, but is happy to strike up a conversation in his first language. Speaking in Korean makes him feel more at ease.
✤ Instinct | Suitable for someone who can cause people to act almost purely on instinct, Eugene is someone who tends to trust their gut on things. And half the time, acting on instinct works in his favor. He has a good sense of his surroundings that allow him to make quick decisions without dragging himself down with excessive reconsideration. Sometimes, the first thought that comes to mind is the best one- people too often second guess themselves.
✤ Flexible | As perhaps seen by his ability to leave everything behind and move to New York on his own, Eugene is someone who survives well in a diversity of situations. He is able to adapt to his surroundings without growing rigid or depending too much on a constant in his life. If anything, he avoids such dependence, blaming it for the path his father has taken. He tends to avoid becoming set in stone for fear that such stubbornness will drag him down to the bottom of the river.
FLAWS | WEAKNESSES
✤ Academics | Eugene did not have a traditional education. That is to say, he didn't really attend any one school for a substantial period of time following around sixth or seventh grade. Because of this, he lacks the knowledge that others might have regarding things like mathematics, science, etc. It's a bit of a tender point for the young man, who grows visibly uneasy when people discuss things out of textbooks he's never had access to.
✤ Commitment | While his distaste for dependence may leave him open to flexibility, it also makes it difficult for Eugene to commit to things with any definite resolve. He may be described as flighty, and has the tendency to randomly cancel plans or become nervous when a situation calls for a long term promise. This applies to friendships and goals, but without a doubt would make any long term relationship difficult as well.
✤ Petty | Like a child, Eugene tends to become caught up over offenses. He isn't the sort to hold a grudge, but in the short term has difficulty not answering back to things he perceives as insults. This is why he always feels this itching desire to make people who act high and mighty take a taste of their own baseness by removing their inhibitions. The longer he is away from his father, the less prominent the itch, but it's still there. He's far from forgiving, though he's likely to forget.
✤ Inferiority | Due to his father causing the shunning of his family, and to the lack of education he has received, Eugene has a bit of an Inferiority Complex. He has a fear of not being worth the same amount as others around him are. Should a situation arise where a suicide mission is necessary, he'd volunteer simply out of the belief that he is the weakest link, and easier to replace than the others. This likely contributes to his duality in personality.
FEARS
✤ Going to Prison
✤ Lacking Control

Park Yuh Joon || Father || Gifted (Telepathy) || Alive - Estranged
Park Hye-Mi (Hannah) || Younger Sister || Gifted (Dream Manipulation) || Alive - Estranged
HISTORY
xxxxPark's mother was the first to know what was coming. But she received the vision hardly more than half an hour before the anti-Gifted extremists attacked. Enough time to hide the children, but not enough to raise enough notice throughout the community. It was the dead of night, after all. While the majority of the community went unharmed (the extremists could only do so much against a community of people with inhuman powers), there were casualties. Park Se Mi was among them, leaving behind two children and a particularly devastated husband. Those criminals responsible were found and punished to the fall extent of the law at the hands of a justice system primarily composed of Non-Gifted. The crime was not tolerated, and yet rather than seeing this, Eugene's father saw only the criminals themselves. He had always been somewhat dependent on his wife, and in her absence Yuh-Joon turned to violence. He became part of a small group of Gifted who believed in finishing the work began by George March. At this time, Eugene was around ten years old, and his sister around six. Naturally, he indoctrinated his young and still impressionable children into this cause. This was more easily done to his younger sister, who still took her father's word for universal truth. Eugene, however, having seen what a lack of control could do to people, what violent emotions were capable of, was more reluctant. However, he followed his father. With the next family member living on the other side of the world, it seemed the only thing he could do.
xxxxThe group was always very small and ragtag, due to their extremely controversial stance, and at first not particularly harmful. Small campaigns to increase awareness of injustice against the Gifted. Raising funds to support the families of those hurt in extremist attacks. They were doing good. This handful of seemingly good Samaritans praised by the Gifted community for their work. But even violent street gangs may be seen as benevolent for paying a senior citizen's rent. As Park grew older, and his father's little group with him, their actions became more extreme. Vandalizing stores that were said to be anti-Gifted. Shattering car windows, things that could be dismissed as the act of any thug. Perhaps they had been fighting for equality at first, but his father and his father's friends began to look more like criminals, perhaps even terrorists, than anything else. They were shunned by the rest of the community for their severe beliefs, and this isolation only allowed the beliefs to fester and grow. It became a matter of Gifted Supremacy. And Eugene managed to continue along for the ride- when he was fourteen he aided in the public humiliation of an official with anti-Gifted tendencies by releasing their inhibitions and prompting them towards public indecency. He threw a brick through the window of a known Anti-Gifted Speaker's mother's home, threatening her for the words of her son. He helped make threats, even took part in direct violence. Eugene was heading towards a dark path, all at the encouragement of his father. But he made sure Hannah had no part in it- an agreement between he and his father.
xxxxThey say that slowly raising the temperature will prevent a frog from jumping out of a boiling pot. This is what kept Eugene from realizing how far he had fallen before he nearly hit rock bottom. His father set his sights on the current Georgia Governor, a known supporter of Anti-Gifted organizations and legislation. Eugene and another person went into his house at night while his family slept. Eugene was sent to make a mess of the study. They were only ever supposed to make a mess- leave a painted message on a wall. Nothing more. But he found the other person with in the governor's bedroom, threatening both him and, in particular, his wife. This hadn't been the plan- not by a long shot. He got into an argument with the other person that led to a fight which concluded in the person's death. From thereon out, he could not be a member of his father's organization any longer. He didn't want to be. His father and his father's friends were being tagged as dangerous criminals, no longer to be overlooked. Eugene got out.
xxxxThis is what brought Eugene to New York City, a place so densely populated that he could go undetected for the most part. No one knows about his past, of course- his greatest paranoia is being brought to prison for acting as an accomplice to his father's misguided little group. His greatest fear is that his sister may have by now been forced into the group's increasingly extreme activities. He was barely seventeen when he came to New York, where he makes his way with various part time jobs, staying with other Young Gifted people in the city after a several month period of homelessness. And with the string of murders going on, he knows he just as well could have been one of those killed- he knows his sister could have. So of course, he must act. Everyone must.
