Every summer he leaves somewhat suddenly to a random vacation to live there in the summer. It's only a secret because every trip is a whim, and he usually doesn't give much notice about it.
He's never been in love.
Personality: He's a more shy boy, and tends to blend in the background. His voice is somewhat quiet, and he goes with the crowd. He's nice enough, and he has a few friends. He's not very outgoing or humorous, so you wouldn't call him popular. He's a bit serious looking, if he tries to be or not. When he smiles or laughs, it's pretty rare, and mostly random. Overall he's pretty independent, finding himself often alone.
His facade is boring, seemingly dull and uneventful. His face is unreadable, and cold be described as stone cold. His eyes lack any glimmer of hope, and his general demeanor is calm in it's own depressing way. Though, he is not sad, lonely, or depressed, getting a vibe like that around him isn't uncommon.
On top of it all, you could guess he doesn't care very much about anything.
Which is very, very wrong.
In his own way he's very respectable. Though he lacks motivation, he makes up for it in ethics. He's a gentlemen, easily that could be given to him. He respects others unless they have given him a reason to not. But even then he's polite and calm. He doesn't take an undue advantage of his power or the weaknesses of those around him. He is a man who does not compel others to do anything against their wish. He never intentionally offends others physically or mentally. He never inflicts pain unless he feels it's right to do so. He often displays his humbleness, his prudence, his calm, his patience and his principles.
You could call him mysterious, but after talking with him you may just decide he lacks depth. Honestly, it takes patience to get to know anyone, him especially. He's no open book, but he is kind. His kindness sticks him out from the others, but then again he doesn't speak up much.
However if one actually took the time to be with him, then they would see that he's a very caring person who just wants to be forgiven. He bears a strong regret and resentment over himself, which has made him quiet and reserved; the type to admire from afar.
He's somewhat of a tough toffee with a gooey center.
If he cares for you in anyway, he'd give his life for you. He has a passion for whatever keeps him alive, which can very well be because of a sibling, friend, or lover. When he feels this close to someone, he's very loyal.
Something that sticks out about him other than his polite nature is his curiosity. His mind is full of wonder, and if he's able he will ask you tons of questions. He constantly analyzes situations, and is very interested in why people do what they do. Psychology is his major, which he's very interested in. He's a bit quirky and clever, asking interesting questions and picking up on little things and trying to find what lead you to do that. He likes statistics and the idea of whether you are the way you are because of the way you're raised or because of DNA. He especially takes an interest in art, mostly of nature, and how artists can distort and apply emotion to a picture of scenery. Though he's not very artistic himself.
History: Colin only had one brother, who was more than a few years older than him. Colin had always been a little weird and quiet, but nice polite and kind. His father was a professor at Cornell University, located in Ithaca. His mother met his father in high school, and he'd always had a crush on her though she never noticed him. It wasn't until after college that they really began talking, and his father asked her out. Four years later they had their first son, and four years after that they had their second. Both boys were brought up to respect everyone, and both were very intelligent even as children. Colin's brother had grown up very fast, and quickly became a gentleman. He thought of child's games as silly, and prefered to keep to himself in studies or with adults who he could converse with. Colin didn't mind this too much, but prefered to grow up at a normal pace.
You could say Colin's father was a dreamer who was grounded. He loved ideas and dreams of bigger and better things, but had something that always made him unable to try to make anything work or happen. He had this idea of reality and the world being cruel and not nice to dreamers. All the same he still brought his sons up, telling them stories and elaborate dreams. Colin's brother quickly got bored, but Colin was always fascinated by his father. There was a long time where he didn't see his mother too much, which he later learned was because she had a mental break down. His parents kept the whole thing very quiet, but eventually Colin was told she had OCD, and that he wouldn't really be able to touch her anymore. Being young, he didn't understand, but as he grew up this influenced his career in psychology.
As Colin grew up, his heart and mind full of dreams and ideas, he slowly learned what his father had. He was observant and perceptive, and saw the world wasn't as lovely as he'd have wished. He wasn't a pessimist or an optimist, he just saw what was there to see. The world itself was always beautiful to him, but as hard as it was to admit, only the humans made it ugly. He didn't dislike humans though, he was fascinated with them and himself. He wanted to know everything about the mind. His favorite question was probably why? Not to ask, but to answer. He like figuring things out like a puzzle, and piecing things together to have an answer to why people do what they do.
Throughout high school he had a smaller group of really good friends, who all split for college. Except Colin's best friend came along with him to the same college. They stayed good friends and were roommates, though their interests were very different. Sometimes they tried to combine ideas. His friend was very into science, so sometimes they discussed ideas. Colin always asked about DNA and how it affects the mind, and both would debate ideas.
Eventually his best friend met a girl and began dating her. Colin liked her too, as a good friend of course. The three became a studying team, and none ever felt awkward about it. The two went off on dates and Colin did his own thing. Sometimes they'd go on double dates, but Colin was never very interested in girls as much as they were interested in him. He did slowly begin to want to be interested though. When he saw them so happy talking about marriage he realized he wanted to find love, but he didn't know how.
