Ezra stood in the shadows of a rather overly large palm tree, smirking in amusement. He had only recently turned eighteen, yet he felt older than most here. His long blond hair clung wetly to his face and neck, from his quick swim. So far, Ezra was really liking this new job. He taught what he loved and interacting with new people every day was interesting. Graduating a semester early had its perks.

But now... He had coworkers, and lots of them. They looked fun though. Ezra could still taste the salt on his lips and the waves looked so blue and inviting. Too many people. He would surf later, tonight. He smiled to himself. Surfing at night was always fun. His aqua eyes observed it and decided they look like carefree little children. Ezra felt a twinge of envy but pushed it aside.

One girl caught his eye though. She had bright blue hair. Cute. She was currently being talked to. Ezra smirked. She didn't look exactly social. Maybe he'd help her out. He glanced at himself. His pale abs gleamed with salt water and his black shorts were soaked as if he wet his pants. Ezra shook some water out of his hair with a hand and walked over casually from where he had been standing.

"Hey," he flashed a white smile at the girl sitting in the sand. She looked tiny, but then again, he was taller than everyone he met. He met the eyes of the redhead. "Hi, I'm Ezra," then he turned to the girl. "I'm kind of hungry if you'd like to join me for a snack. I know this great place, my treat,"

shaking his he John just sat still "no i doubt if i was here and my sis saw you she'd probably do or say something rude." he sighed looking far off. "and besides it's no fun being a loner." he said looking back "but any way if you do enjoy surfing so much just go any time you feel like it's not like i'm going to judge what being the "amateur" that i am i wouldn't have any room to talk about how any one does on how they surf." he said using his fingers in the air quote gesture then sat back. "but if i'm bugging you just let me know and i'll just head out and that will be the last you see of me today."

Gabe was still looking around for a distraction when her eyes met the blonde-haired boy that had looked as if he had just taken a swim, or was running in his bathing suit for a very long time. It wasn't a bad sight either, easy to be distracted by. Not that she would admit it, but her eyes did happen to travel down to his clearly muscled arms and abs, though when she realized it she quickly shook her head and refocused on the boy next to her. It was unlikely she'd ever see the blonde boy again, he probably was staying at the hotel and she'd be cleaning his room tomorrow morning. There goes that optimism, she thought sarcastically, watching John make air quotes with his fingers. "You're not bugging me, I just saw that you had been heading out to surf and it would suck if you missed some of those waves."

Her eyes returned to where the blonde boy was, and she was quite shocked to see that he was gone. Without realizing it she began to search for the boy, unable to find him as it was like he'd disappeared into thin air. She was startled out of her search when someone spoke, clearly a male but also not John. Eyes flitting upwards, they landed on the boy. Found him. The next bit was a blur, as she couldn't really believe that he was almost sort of asking her to go eat with him, which could very easily be mistaken for a date. "I guess," she muttered, giving John an apologetic look and promising herself that she would make it up to him later. Standing, she was momentarily glad that she had remembered to throw on a pair of black skinny jeans and a thin white shirt over her suit. "By the way, I'm Gabe."

After the male appeared John stood and grabbed his board. "oh you two had better head out if you don't want to lose your chance as well avoid the impending rude comments my sis will speak." he said with a laugh then waved good bye before going back to the water for his chance to surf and enjoy himself. 'freedom at last' he thought diving under letting one of the smaller waves pass over. As soon as a good sized one began to rise he decided to go for it the rush and excitement took over when he even went into the barrel something only the most experienced or the most dare devilish of surfers would do.

After he exited the barrel John forced a wipe out. "whew!! now that is a rush." he said to himself remounting his board then lied there and stared up to the sky 'all that time i surfed and i never even tried to surf the barrel i never knew what i was missing.' he thought kicking lightly in the water. After a while he went back to shore and just sat in the lied in the sand under the shade of a coconut tree before practically falling a sleep.

Valdimar turned to his new friends: Skye, probably the happiest of the bunch, Hiroshima, who looked to edgy for a coral reef, and Lana, who seemed nice enough. Ready to make an impression, he darted out of the room and out onto the beach, making a mad dash to the water. He didn't know what fuelled such a passionate excursion, just that he was about to run into a group of three people; oh joy.
Valdimar turned, spinning in a slow-motion movement like he was Neo in the matrix. He didn't understand that movie very well, but it was it was still awesome. He briefly locked eyes with the girl, flashing a quick smile until he saw who she was with. Probably two of the best looking beach-bums he had ever laid eyes on. This was getting interesting.
Not as interesting as his momentum, as he continued to spin and resumed running for the shoreline.

Once they got to the beach Skye ran ahead from her new friends and ran towards the beach throwing her beach bag on the smooth sand, and with her surf board in her hands.
"See you in the water guys!" She said with her hand making the surfs up gesture as she was running ahead.

Skye ran inside the water and ran all the way until she couldn't stand anymore, she hoped on top of her board and paddled straight forward an upcoming wave. As the wave was approaching her, she paddled faster to catch it. Once she hit the right spot, she hopped on top of her board and let the way guide her back to the shore, once the wave ended it sucked Skye in, good thing she had her board tied to her leg.
Skye's head popped from the water and she yelled to the crowd on the beach.

"C'mon guys! The waves are gnarly today!" She screamed waving her hand towards her new friends, as she was holding on to her board with her other arm.

Ezra nodded once to the boy before he ran off with his board. People were fun and interesting. Then he refocused on to the girl that had just introduced herself.

"Sweet." He smiled at her and glanced back at the water. "The cafe is pretty awesome. It has these little chocolate cakes with little cherries on top," Ezra turned back to her and started walking, shortening his stride so she could keep up easily. "Hold on a sec." He jogged over to the tree where his baby blue t-shirt hung limply from a branch. Then he pulled it over his head. He wasn't that egoistic, though the shirt was rather uncomfortable against the dampness of his skin. Ezra returned to Gabe. "Plus, the waitress owes me a favor, so its all on the house." Gabe... it was a curious name for a girl, one that he'd never really heard of. But it sounded nice inside his thoughts. Ezra wondered if she was a tourist or a worker.

Would it sound rude if he asked? Ezra tucked a strand of blond hair behind his ear. Girls were rather easy to charm but she didn't seem like most, seriously. She had blue hair. What normal girl had blue hair? She was unique and it intrigued him. If she was a surfer, it'd make it perfect.

"Anyway, do you surf?" He asked, trying not to sound to eager. Most girls he had interacted with since he came here were rich tourists that were more interested in getting into his pants than surfing. Was it abnormal for him not to take advantage of those kind of situations? Ezra mused wryly. It's not like he disliked girls, except he felt bad when they expected a bit more than he could give. Ezra didn't like taking things he couldn't repay.

Hiro smiled as he walked down with everyone, so many people here seem so friendly. Minus the one girl who walked by everyone rudely everyone he has met seemed to enjoy themselves, and even she would probably warm up at some point. seeing the few that started to get into the water he smiled. He didn't bring his board down, because he didn't feel like it today. tomorrow after work he would go out and have a good time. He did however bring his guitar down, because he thought it would be a good idea to play some music on the first day.

He sat on the beach close enough so the people could hear him. Hiro strummed just a simple tune on his guitar and began whistling to it. nothing anybody knew, just his own tune. He loved music a lot, and decided if he was going to be living here for a while he needed to be entertained by the people, the surf, the beach, and his own music. he was hoping to write a song or two while he was here, but that would come later. right now it was all about the tune.

He made his music surround him and his friends with an upbeat and bright sound, as if his music embodied the ocean and the sun around them, it was something he was good at, playing music to fit the mood and time. The ocean waves lead his rhythm as the sift wind carried his sound. everything fit so right 'Mmmm mm mm." Hiro hummed a tune that fit in just right for it

When they said the beaches were as beautiful as the women, they weren't lying. Stretch of shoreline covered the coast and the constant movement created for an interesting scene. Lana twiddled the idea of writing at the beach, but water, sand, parchment? Not a good combo.
-----
Lana smiled, excited to see the shoreline, although not necessarily excited to see the water. She'd swam in lakes back home, but they were are very tame and not anything remotely exciting like this. Lana peeled out of her sweater and jeans carelessly tossing them into a leather bag she'd brought with. Perhaps it was then that Lana realized her packing choices may have been a little unreasonable. If she didn't develop a skin disease by the end of this she was more than guaranteed to sweat to death.
-----
A little lost from the hoards of people vanishing into the water to surf Lana laughed a little uncomfortably to no one in particular;however, she did take note of two other members who weren't out swimming. The boy named Hiro, who strummed his guitar. And the girl who'd stormed out of the Shack before she got a chance to catch her name. Now. Lana didn't know either well enough to actually go talk, because, Lana was odd about the whole talking with anybody thing, but she did want to appreciate the music. She rested a towel down close to the shoreline, but not to close, close enough to hear Hiro playing, but not to close, and proceeded to stare off into the abyss, bemused by everyone's conversation, and the constant harmonious strumming of the guitar.

As they first began walking, Gabe quickly realized that she had to take two or three steps to match one of his. Another reason she was grateful that he slowed a bit, so she didn't have to almost jog to keep up with him.

He talked about chocolate and she almost grimaced, only just being able to stop herself. "Chocolate is so gross," she said with a breathy laugh, though it was obviously strained. She obviously wasn't the most excited person, usually she wasn't even that nice. Not that she didn't try, just people were way too ignorant or arrogant or, in a females case, terrible. And it sort of just happened without her even realizing it. The boy went off for a moment and she noted that he returned with a shirt, and that baby blue didn't look too bad on him. Then again most boys looking good in blue, so there wasn't anything fantastically special about him. At least he saved her from having to deal with that girl.

They continued walking and she absent-mindedly pulled at her shirt, somewhat annoyed at the looseness of it. Every time she even moved it seem to re-position itself, or slid down one of her shoulders. At that moment she wished she'd worn her hoodie instead, usually no matter how hot it was you could find her wearing it. His voice distracted her from her thoughts again, and she turned her face slightly to look up at him. It was then that she finally realized how much taller than her he was, and she almost laughed at the thought. He almost had two feet on her, and that surprised her, even though most people were a lot taller. "Yupp. Surf, play guitar, starting to work at a five-star hotel that I'm sure I'm going to hate," she said, spotting a building in the distance. It was probably the cafe he was talking about, at least she hoped so. Walking was so not her thing, which was surprising considering she was barely a hundred pounds. One usually wondered how she stayed so small with how lazy she was, though it was pretty simple. She was too lazy to go and get food, so she also hardly ate. "Though I prefer to surf at night, a lot more peaceful and no one else to worry about. You?"

He noticed she didn't like chocolate. He could spot a fake laugh from a mile away, being an expert at it himself. Well the cafe had a lot of stuff. There was bound to be something she liked.  She seemed to fidget with her shirt but figured that was a girl thing or something. The weather was great, the sun blazed and the hot breeze was refreshing. His cotton shirt was uncomfortable and Ezra really wanted to take it off... But he figured he'd come across as some sort of pervert. And Gabe didn't seem to be a people person and there didn't seem to be a point in giving her a reason to dislike him. Surfing was his job, shirts were foreign to him now.

Ezra grinned happily when she said she surfed, played guitar and worked. He must have found a kindred spirit. "I play guitar too and I've been working as a surf instructor for two weeks now. It's a pretty good deal," he opened the door to the cafe and the sweet aroma of cake and coffee surrounded them. Ezra held it open for her as he talked. "You swim at night huh? That must mean your pretty good. I was going to go tonight, want to come? It is usually safer with someone to watch your back,"
he nodded toward the glass display case that was filled with pies and tarts and cake and other pastries and sweets. "Order whatever you like,"

Oh, she was fantastic was she? A sincere smile tugged at the corner of lips. He couldn't wait for tonight. Hopefully she was true to her word and turned out to be some good competition. Truthfully, he had only recently started surfing after his father died. It was a great stress reliever and he threw himself into it with a passions Ezra's never felt before. It was like he was a natural, it all came so easily to him.

"I'm pretty amazing when it comes to surfing," he smirked and raised an eyebrow at her. "I wonder who's better," then he walked to the counter where the waitress had been eyeing him with anticipation.

"How are things?" Ezra leaned forward casually. The girl behind the counter blushed and stammered. "I'll have a large coffee, black and three slices of chocolate cake, could you bring it over to that table?" he pointed at a small booth right before he walked over to it.

He watched her carefully as he waited for his food. She amused him. Gabe obviously wasn't comfortable around him, but she stuck around anyway. Why didn't she just leave, it wasn't like they were even friends yet.

Then she asked when he started surfing. Ezra paused then the food came. Mmmm cake. And coffee. It was like an addiction. He thanked the girl before focusing back onto Gabe. The aroma made his mouth water, but he figured he should answer before digging in.

"I started a few years ago in high school. We live near a beach so its only natural that I try to surf." Ezra said before taking a bite of chocolatey goodness. "How about you? How Lon have you been surfing?"

Gabe's train of thought suddenly dipped back to the past, and she found herself thinking of the lovely, innocent young brown haired girl she used to be. At least until her mother died, she had been about seven at the time. It had ruined her for a long time, feeling nothing but numbness towards everything and everyone. Nothing could get to her, not even her suddenly abusive father. He would stick his cigarettes on her inner arms and hold them there until they'd effectively burnt her skin, the scars were still obviously there. It wasn't like she tried to hide them anymore, it wasn't something she felt the need to hide. At first she'd felt that way, but that was because that's what her father had told her to feel. Obviously she had somewhat of a hatred for cigarettes now, or any type of smoking at all. That and it made you smell really bad, something people at least used to care about.

Refocusing herself on the topic at hand, she listened to Ezra's answer, slowly nodding by the end. It made sense, if you lived by a beach why wouldn't you try and surf? "Since I was fourteen-ish," she said with a shrug. "It was either that or join some other stupid team, turns out surfing actually isn't half bad."

Surfing was great. It had helped him pull through but remembering why he had started it in the first place was always depressing. Thinking about that day... he felt the urge to phone home at that moment to check in on his family. He shouldn't have ever left them. However, his mom has basically kicked him out of the house, telling him to go live and stop worrying. It made his chest ache. Ezra knew that he didn't have to protect them so much anymore. It was just a hard habit to break out of.

"You guys had a surf team? Lucky." Ezra stuck his tongue out at her rather childishly. "I started when I was almost seventeen. So it wasn't a few years. I've barely started more than a year ago, actually. Before that, I barely even knew how to swim." The blond silently cursed himself. He had let the last part slip. Thankfully his father had never actually done anything that scarred. Sure, internal damages were pretty bad, but at least it didn't leave a mark. His eyes closed quickly, trying to push out the memories. Ezra sighed. He probably looked a little stupid. So he reopened them and started eating his cake, in between sips of bitter coffee. He observed her silently. He hadn't noticed it before... but she looked rather young. Sure, she was tiny, but it wasn't just her size. Despite the air of someone older, the atitude, she still had a bit of roundness to her face that he wouldn't have noticed if he hadn't basically raised his little sisters his whole life.

"How old are you anyway? Fourteen? Fifteen?" He teased with a smirk, sure that it would get some kind of rise out of her.

The accident that had taken her mothers life often haunted her dreams. It wasn't something that she wanted to dream about, it wasn't something she even wanted to think about. Yet she still did, it was like her insomnia, never going to go away. Luckily she hardly ever slept anyways, so it wasn't like she had to dream about it often. In a way she always felt like the accident was her own fault, but then another part of her clearly said that it was her fathers fault and she wasn't going to take the blame for him.

The great, tragic event that had killed her mother had been solved long ago. Poor woman left her oven on, house burnt down. Father was busy seeking out his seven year old daughter and thought the wife was already outside, they were lucky to be alive. Even though his little girl had to spend months in the hospital and then even longer sticking with therapy to get over it all. Of course that was all far from the truth. Her mother was the one who had gotten her out of the fire, then gone back into the house to try and get her father. He'd already been outside, had clearly seen the two exit, yet he didn't try and stop his wife from going back into the building. It was his fault, having fallen asleep smoking. "Hah, no. I just needed to get out of the house," she noted that he hadn't put anything in his coffee, leaving it probably bitter and, well, gross. "Doesn't that taste sort of like, shit?"

His next question caught her a bit off guard, and she fixed him with another glare. "Sixteen, actually." She leaned back in her seat, crossing her arms across her chest. "Aw, I'm sorry, is that a problem? I'm sure counter-" whore "-girl over there is still open."

Ezra was having fun. She was easy to bait and maybe a bit too defensive, but he used to be like that too, when he was her age.  Her glare was rather adorable. What lovely language. He just grinned at her before leaning back in his seat, cake all gone. With one hand he took another sip of the bitter drink before tilting it to her. A slut, was what she had been about to say, or something equivalent to one. A lot of people associated that word with the women around here. Girls born and raised here were slightly more spoiled and ditzy than some. It was their only way of life.

"Its taste grows on you after awhile. Plus, it's healthier this way too. Want to try?" he wiggled the styrofoam cup at her, raising his eyebrows invitingly. "And Becca is a very nice lady. She just finds me attractive, how is that her fault?" Ezra grinned. "And I have no problem with sixteen year olds. Though if you've got a problem with my age, you're free to leave." he widened his blue eyes at her earnestly. "Though I do hope you'll still give me a chance to dazzle you with my amazing surfing skills tonight."

Ezra took back the cup, eyes gleaming wickedly. She had taken the cup to his surprise and even kept it down. Usually, young people didn't like their coffee black, he knew it was unusual. His stomach was full and he was actually enjoying himself. Ezra checked the fancy little clock hanging on the wall. He was starting to feel a little sleepy... He shook himself mentally. Sleep was not an option. It gave him more stress than it relieved him. Also, there was this little boy coming in for surfing lessons in half an hour, it was cute how little kids were so eager to try and not give up until they had almost perfected it. Ezra enjoyed teaching.

"And you'll be the one being 'dazzled' tonight, not me." she retorted. Ezra chuckled at that. Sure, he could still be considered a rookie, but they had hired him out of all those other bright candidates they could have picked from... though he guessed it could have just been because of his good looks and manners. A lot of talented surfers were so rudely arrogant, they'd scare more customers away.

"We'll see about that. "I've got a lesson soon. So I'm going to go for a quick jog to warm up. " Ezra stated, standing up gracefully. He placed a twenty on the table, and smiled at the unique little blue haired girl. "Do you need a board, or do you have your own? I'm closing up the shop tonight, since I've got the last shift."

Gabe nodded, tempted to ask if she could join him, at least for the run. But that would be stupid, she'd be seeing him tonight anyways and she was way too lazy to run right then. She was so nocturnal, almost always choosing to sleep during the day and do everything else during the night, like surfing and running. It was because no one else was around, to bother or tease her. Back at home, she just stayed in her room during the day, since anytime she came out it was usually just to get yelled at or told to do something.

She watched as he stood, placing a twenty on the table. Was a coffee and a cake really twenty dollars? Maybe he just has a lot of money, she told herself. But then why would he be working here? It didn't really matter to her, but if coffee was more than five dollars she would be drinking a lot of water from there on out.

"I've got my own board, thanks though," she managed, having been so lost in her own thoughts that she hadn't heard his last words. Standing up herself, she offered a small smile to the other before heading towards the door, expecting him to follow her out. It was too loud in the cafe for her liking, though it was probably the closest place that she could get coffee so she'd have to deal with it. "I'll see you, well sometime after dark."
