s t y l e x // x Though she grew up practicing naiad traditions (including their garb), she was still in New York City. She didnât need the fancy brands, but for a special occasion she liked to go shopping for a new outfit. Usually something on trend to wear once and then return. Though that was before. Serving as a vessel for the river god now, she actually preferred being nude in the water. For ease, she prefers clothes that are easy to put on or take off. In previous lives this would have been a toga or burlap sack with holes â but dresses were easier these days. Most times sheâs seen barefoot, though when she has to enter the Pantheon she can be talked to into a pair of sandals.

It was hard to know what you were missing when you never really had it, but she still felt that void. It made her become fiercely independent, refusing to succumb to whatever someone else planned for her.

Destiny has made the choice to serve Rio, operating wholly as a vessel. Rio adapted Destinyâs persona to interact with the world around them. A piece of her was ever present, but she had no need to take the driverâs seat. She had always been easy-going, much more likely to allow others to take the lead.
With the wisdom of a god being whispered in her ear from a young age, Destiny always moved with a sense of security and certainty in her decisions. She knew that there was never a perfect decision, you just had to accept the one you made. There was nothing to gain in looking backwards. She put faith in herself and in Rio.
Blessed to Rio as a baby, Destiny had always known that she had a purpose.
When they emerged, Destiny went right to work. She took on her role with grace, starting by cleaning the rivers and visiting the naiads who served her. Though they would fawn over her, she never let it go to her head. Just as they brushed and braided her hair, she brushed and braided theirs. Her touch left the water with restorative properties, enriching the lives of those it touched. It was her duty to share that with those who served her.
They never subscribed to the petty politics of gods, more concerned with their acolytes than power struggles. While they do return to the Patheon from time to time for certain ceremonies or inaugurations they never stay long, wary around the presence of gods. They own a bath house in the city where they stay when they are around. Theyâve tried regifting it to the staff many times, but they hold her exalted and refuse her gift insisting her ownership.

H I S T O R I U M
Naiads were notoriously closed to the rest of the world. It wasnât very often that youâd see one alone, they only ever left their communities together and usually with the intention of running errands or procreation. Their traditions had been carried over for generations, something they took very seriously. Destiny had been promised to the River god they served by the matron of their community against Destinyâs mother will. Her mother ran away with Destiny in the middle of the night, fleeing to New York City. She hoped for Destiny to never find out about what had happened.
Though they had been separated from their people and culture, her mother always made a point to make sure Destiny was in tune with their roots. Within the confines of their apartment they lived as they would in their communities. There werenât any solo naiads where they lived, so all they had was each other. It was hard to worship a river as polluted as the Hudson, but they made do.
For as long as she could remember, Destiny had a little voice in the back of her head. It never told her what to do, or what to say â it was just ever present. Sometimes it even gave her advice, like when she was losing patience with her mother. They thought everyone had this voice until they told their mother. To this day Destiny could still remember the look of horror on her face when Destiny had told her.
Her mother forbade her from speaking to that voice again, but it was hard to just cut off that connection. Sheâd been speaking to this voice her entire life, she literally had no idea how stop, it was as natural as breathing. Destiny just kept her little voice a secret.
Destinyâs 20th birthday, she told her mother she knew that she was promised to Rio â that she was meant to be a god. Her mother denied everything as Destiny expected. Rio had told Destiny they would wait until her cognitive functions were fully developed, that it would help the transition for both of them. It was time to start her new life. Destiny told her mother that sheâd love her forever, that sheâd always be there for her â that Rio had promised that much. Her mother was adamant that it was wrong, that sheâd been brainwashed by this god.
Destiny knew that this was where she was meant to be.
Her mother kicked her out. Destiny took to the river, diving in and emerging as a god. Her first act as a newly emerged god was to clean the lakes and rivers. She traveled through the country, cleansing the waters and visiting naiad communities. They were elated that their lady had returned, life was a stream of celebration for the first couple years.
She came to the city hearing rumors about a witch who was enslaving spirits and humans to work in her bathhouse. Destiny was able to release the spirits and humans using the steam in the air to help restore their memories. Weakened by the loss of control, the witch retreated. The people exalted Destiny as their savior â the Lady of the Waters. Every time she returns people line up around the block for a turn to be in her blessed waters.
Preferring to wander, she lives along the water wherever she may find shelter often among naiads â though she does have a room within the bathhouse. It is one the staff of the bathhouse made for her, the ones who stayed behind after being released from the witch who now wished to serve the Lady of the Water. She would not call the place home, but it can feel like it at times.
