Introduction

Setting:
The Kingdom of Tanoa is gravely threatened, invaders from beyond their borders have arrived and brought death immediately to the realm, every form of communication with them has been violent and where words have failed the King has employed its army in an effort to keep the peace but so far the advance of the enemy has not been met with a halt.

If they take prisoners, none have been seen but in their wake they leave death and decay the king has faced them with steel but so far he has failed to defeat them and more of the nation is lost to their vast horde.

Now Reuben the prince, has found a lead to a myth having more legitimacy that was ever believed, it is told that when the mountains still soared the sky and the gods lived amongst men that humankind had magic in their veins, magic that allowed them to perform the most incredible feats.

It is unknown what made that era end, some say that the gods grew disgusted with the mortals and stripped their powers, others that the source was depleted and some say that the gift simply banished without a trace...

But when death is the alternative to a quest to restore it, the choices are quite simple

Tanoa is a kingdom that is composed by 9 cities that are in turn ruled by counts and barons, two have already been lost to the Barbarians of Eirsh and the other 7 cities have put aside their political differences and look up to the king for guidance in this dire time.

Your character has been chosen by the prince and his trusted people, it does not matter if you are a prisoner, a general, or a renowned scholar he and his mentor Lucien have heard or seen your skills and know that you will be vital in the retrieval of the objects that will restore the gift of the gods and give the people of Tanoa back their access to magic.

Will you triumph in the face of adversity? or will the army of Eirsh consume Tanoa when you return?

Toggle Rules

1- Have fun
2- No godmoding, DONT touch someone else`s character without their permission and don't defy logic if your character runs into an army no matter how skilled they are going down
3- Despite being fantasy, it is quite realistic in the fact that there are no elves, dwarves or orcs, there are traces of magic in the world but they are extremely rare, which is the main goal of the quest to restore the magic, maybe your character can have faint glints of magic in their blood but nothing spectacular no teleportation, no fireballs, no manipulation of water etc.
4- If you are going to leave please tell in advance, don't leave us hanging this will be a slow paced RP so if someone becomes absent for more than one month without a good reason, they will meet unfortunate fates
5- Posting at least once a week is all I ask, I rather quality over quantity and im not a speed poster myself im not gona establish a minimun of sentences or anything just put some passion into it
6- all characters need to be approved, provide the following information or if you are playing someone mysterious at least put a ?? at the field
Name:
Age:
Physical description (hair, eye color, built etc.)
Personality ( quirks, fears, likes, dislikes etc.)
Bio (where did it came from, why did it joined the group etc.)
7- No metagaming, this means even if it is in a char sheet it does not mean that your character suddenly knows it
8- Have fun

Leonid listened carefully to what his companion had to say, he too could not wait for the day in which Reuben would finally sit the Tanoian throne, what a wonderful day that would be... yet at the same time one Leonid dreaded.

"I agree, Reuben has some aspects in him that would make of him a great king... however he has others that would lead the nation into ruin" he smiled when he had to share the irony of it all "A soldier is the one who fights most of the wars and conflict as you well know, but we are who above all pray for peace. I pray that the age when Reuben takes the crown is one filled with peace and prosperity the nation loves him so dearly he is kind and fair to master and minion alike... yet he lacks the spine and stomach to be present in times of war, if he was leading us against the Eirsh horde, I would be the first man at the vanguard doubt it not, but I just know that he does not have it in him"

He saw how the Raven began to withdrawn to the inner parts of the ship "I..." he wanted to say something but the words stuck on his gutter, he wanted to say that he was grateful for that little chat of theirs but he was not a warm man, he too, withdrew to the ship.

***********************************

They had docked and the knight had for the better part gotten at least a semblance of sleep when he was shaken back to his senses by none other than the barbarian Evenstar "got yerself a good nite o sleep ey see?" it was a most unwelcomed sight but it was true that had he had his way, Leonid would have sleept for a day instead "Is everyone awake by now" the big man smiled and noded "Aye, dey are waitin on yer lazy arse of yours to move", Leonid rubbed his eyes with his fingers took a deep breath and followed the barbarian out of the ship.

Outside he could hear the city alive, shouts and murmurs exchanged hearing about deals, merchandise and sales, it was hard to make anything of it, it was diving in an ocean of sound, he found that the group was just outside the ship, all of them ready and willing it seemed "I got our sir up, lets get bloody started then aye?" Evenstar spoke, a monster of a man huge and broad and not at all shy to draw naked steel how many heads he had severed was only Leonid`s guess, it puzzled him that it was men of his like that were endangering the kingdom he called home, to have him as a companion was something that unsettled him.

"Yes, yes well I-" Leonid looked at his other companions and realized that unlike him their faces bore no trace of sleep they were all ready to set out but they did not know what was their objective after all the prince had commissioned the knight with the endeavor they currently were at "- know it seems I have taken forever, while I would hate to present you any excuses for my absence I am here now and that is all that matters" he hoped that was the last he heard of it but he was quickly proven wrong

"Arite then, what are we supposed to do ere? find ye a betta pillow?" the barbarian told with a smile, Leonid hated laughs and smiles... he was somewhat akward and deep within himself every laugh make him felt the object of some jest, he was nobody`s buffoon and he sometimes never realized that a joke was being told until everyone laughed around him and he was left quiet with a puzzled look.

The shadow that Ortrada casted about him and the ship, Lucky Lila quickly restored his sense of direction "Very well then, Reuben was not very clear as of what we are exactly looking for and Evardien is a foreign land to me... that being said"

He pointed at the raven and said "you have always have a good sense of the people, they shielded you better than a keep`s walls, however this is not our home and yet I think you are the best suited to find out the what, who, where and when of this city roam around and find us any information that might seem useful" that was the logical thing to put him to do, now what about the others.

"Lady Greywood, you might have hunted beasts as game before now I am going to ask you to track men, the Ortrada is surely guarded and something tells me you would have a good feeling about the patrols that could be deployed there find any information that could see us trough there, do remember, look but dont touch we dont want them on edge just yet" he could not afford the tower to be expecting a group of organized thieves to break in

"Thief" the knight said with a drop of disdain in his voice "certainly you have a good feeling to locate valuable things on this city, find out just what exactly is at that tower, do they sell it? has anyone tried to break in? are there other thieves that could join us to split the loot?" surely the scum of Tanoa was just like the scum of every goddamn place, still he needed to add something else

"Lady Emina, I would not have you at this foreign land wandering alone and putting yourself in danger and yet while Reuben never exactly said what we are looking for I would trust you to employ this... gift of yours to try to get a better clue of what we are looking to snatch out of there, I don't really know, follow anything you find worth of a look, anything that... errr, catches your eye?" this was by far the hardest assignment since he didn't quite knew what to expect of her.

Looking at the barbarian he just knew "Br`nard" Leonid said coldly "You would not leave our sweet Emina alone in this city would you, walk her around and make certain no harm comes to her and I want no bloodshed you hear me? a slap, a punch and a shove or two I can tolerate but dont grab any attention to you or Emina" the barbarian smiled that boisterous smile of his "Aye I can play to being her husband?" Leonid thought it better not "She would easily pass for your daughter rather than someone that goes willingly to bed with you, dont want any would-be-heroes trying to save her from your hands" he laughed "Let em try"

Leonid felt it was pointless to argue more of it "That will be all, I too will be doing my part come back here at nightfall, if you need more time and need to stay before that feel free to do so but only if you give us some notice, you know were our ship has docked and our crew will be here all day leave word with them" they all had their duties now, he trusted they would carry them out "Well then, lets move"

"Before anyone goes anywhere you should all know that slavery is practiced here so whatever you do, do not allow yourselves to get caught and Sir Leonid it would be wise if you appeared to be a commoner," Raven warned as she started to walk off then paused and looked back, "Oh and one more thing be wery of the soldiers here, they are not to be trusted." With that said she turned back around and vanished among the hussle and bussle of the busy docks.

Traveling through the shadows and back alleys Raven eventually made her way to a forgotten, run-down looking bar and knocked three times, stopped, five times, stopped, three times, stopped then once. A small square of wood swung open revealing a pair of black eyes and they stated in a gruff tone, "Password?"

"The thief is one with the night. She hides his secrets, she hides his deeds, and most importantly she hides him from those that would have him dead. The thief takes what he wants and gives nothing back, he feels neither remorse nor regret for those he robbs. But alas the night must always come to an end so until the day has gone this thief seeks refuge among thieves," she recites in a low whisper so that only he could hear.

"You may enter thief but lose the cloak, none here will betray your face," stated the gruff voice as the door is opened for her to reveal a robust man with thick black curly hair as she slipped inside and as soon as the door closed behind her she had a knife at his throat.

"I am not so privliged that I can take that chance, suggest such a thing again and I will kill you where you stand," she threatened, pressing the knife closer.

The man nodded franticly but she still held the knife to his throat until a skinny black haired blue eyed teen came up to them with his hands up showing that he was unarmed. "Easy there Raven, the guy just didn't know who he was talking to, he would've never said that if he did," the boy explained.

"I suppose you are right, Kaal. I have returned to hear more of what has been been happening in this country, more specificly this city. Tell me everything you know and everything you have heard even if it is just a rumor, I do not care I want to know everything. After I would like someone to bring me the leader of this so-called resistence. Now someone bring me a cup of brandy and keep it coming, I have a feeling that this is going to take a while and I will need it before long anyway," she ordered as she sat in a chair at the centermost table as her drink was brought to her and they started talking. Sure enough not fifteen minutes later of listening to the recent events of the city and she was starting to down her third cup, it was going to be a long day.

For a second, Levent wondered if the Raven had allowed him to follow her through the alleys. He dismissed the notion once the door was hastily closed behind her. Her cloak also prevented the young man from reading her lips. He was alone again and, despite loving to move alone, he wasn't too comfortable in that moment. Levent scratched the side of his head; the turban made him feel itchy, but that's what happens when you improvise and make one out of cloth you don't know.
It was time for plan B.

---

"Are you staring at my girl?!" Levent heard someone roaring, it was the other Alhazradian sailor, a man almost as big as B'rnard, but with fat covering whatever muscles he would have. The yelling was intense enough to briefly get the attention of other sailor around the dock.

"No, I... No!," Levent lied. Sort of; she was the one staring at him. "I-I just wanted to ask for some information about, Zaphyr. My homeland," he added.

"Oh! "the sailor, who could almost grab 'his girl' from the waist using just his hand, now frowned not from anger but of curiosity. "And where are you from? You look to skinny to be from there."

The sailors' eyebrows rised in amazement when Levent started to speak in Alhazredian. But his eyes still showed distrust.

"You say that you're too young, but your chest shows otherwise," the sailor approached him, and the stink of alcohol made Levent sick.

"Oh, come on, Mustafa! You were that hairy when you were 11!" Said the other sailor at the table, the tallest one. "What do you want to know, little bro?" he took an empty chair from another table and put it besides Levent before pulling his friend back to his chair and next to the girl. Levent sat at the table but refused the drink the tall sailor offered to him.

"I want to know if my family is alright. Actually, I was thinking of returning home. Ever since I traveled so far, I've only encountered trouble." Levent put a sad face and looked down. He then rised his eyes and asked "Do you think I could travel with you?"

The fat sailor looked at him with contempt. "You would have to help the crew, and you look too weak for that. Maybe Tamir here "he looked at the tallest sailor" finds some use for you. I'm heading to my girl's place. I have no time to waste."

He left with the girl, who smiled at Levent and winked. She was too pretty and not plump enough to be a public woman at a dock. It had been a while since had... any. He thought of the wild flower in the party and blushed, deeply ashamed of himself.

Then he got a redder shade of blush when he felt the sailor's hand on his thigh.

"Oh, come on, little bro. It's obvious what you're looking for," the tall sailor said after Levent sprung from the chair, his eyes glassy with drunkenness and desire.

"You've got me all wrong, I..."

"I know who you are, Levent Akin." Levent's heart was absent for a moment, lost in some black hole which engulfed his vision. "I was your cousin's neighbor. So, please sit. We can't talk. I'm quite sure I can be of help to you - As long as you do me a small favor..."

She walked away from the boat, feeling awkward and uncomfortable wearing the clothes of a merchant. “Look but don’t touch…” Azalea remembered Leonid had said, “As if I were going to go wild killing someone just like that… stupid soldier, he thinks I’m a brat!” She said, wondering if goofing off around would be much more fun than going straight to business, however, the words of the Raven remained fresh in her memory, becoming a slave surely didn’t figure in the plan of gathering the info required by Leonid.

“I might need to find myself a good spot to take a look around from the heights”. Azalea thought, as she stumbled upon two soldiers dragging on a cloaked man through the streets. She kept her distance, not wanting to be noticed, but close enough to listen to a hint of what they were arguing about.

“You rebel scum! I’ll beat the shit out of you!” A soldier with a scar on his face said out loud as he struck the prisoner’s gut with his knee.

“I want to show him a thing or two before we get to the tower…“ He said. Make it quick, we are already late”. The other soldier replied. Both men started to walk into a dark and foul alley, dragging the prisoner against his will.

This was too much for Azalea, she was mad at the sight of such aggression. She followed the men into the alley readying one of her knives. She would have to be quick… and kill them.

Azalea heard the soldiers beating the man as she made haste; she grasped the knife with anger and ran towards them, getting ready to strike them as fast as she could. But out of the sudden, and for their surprise, the prisoner started fighting back; he took a knife out his sleeve and stabbed the scarred soldier in the chest, the second soldier charged against his former prisoner holding his sword, he slashed through the air with his blade, but the prisoner quickly moved avoiding the attack and cutting through the soldier’s throat.

Azalea stared at the man with interest as he pulled off the cloak.
“You shouldn’t be here, go home.” He said while kneeling over the corpses to steal their belongings. “If you don’t take the leave I’ll have to…“ The man halted his speech as he looked into Azalea’s eyes.

“Brier… I never thought I would see you again”. Azalea said, astonished by her finding. That man had been a friend of her father and hers as well. He was a hunter and merchant and had lived within the limits of their Village for ten years.

Brier remained motionless and pale. “Azalea, I thought you dead” He said. Azalea hesitated, “Is there anyone else… from home, with you?” She asked, but she knew the answer already.

“Everything happened so fast” He said, looking down at the fallen soldiers. Azalea's frustration showed in her eyes. “Let’s get the hell out of here… let’s talk somewhere else.” Brier said as they walked out of the alley back into the crowded market place.

She hated it when she was right about such things; indeed had been a long day and it hadn’t even reached noon yet. After she’d lost count of how much she’d drank, Raven figured that she should slow down or else she would cause herself to pass out. Not only would her cover be in danger, but it might induce a state of amnesia and she would have a major hangover when she came to.

As noon came the tales of horror dwindled to a stop until suddenly all was quiet once more. Lifting her head from her hands she looked up to notice that everyone was staring at a man that was flanked by two other thieves. The man had black peppered hair, raggedy brown trousers and white shirt, and well-worn shoes that looked like they were going to fall apart any minute. He was obviously under-fed, judging by the slight protruding of bones, but despite all of this he stood proud and defiant.

She nodded to him in greeting which he nodded back in acknowledgment. “I am the Raven of Aeos, I understand that there are more than a few problems with the nobles in this country. Although this is not the reason for my coming here I am willing to help while I am able, in exchange for information. Please tell me what is going on,” she requested as she sat up straight and alert, trying not to look too drunk.

"Raven, I had heard that you were in the city... it seems that the rumors were true. I am Tavien, leader of the resistance, I don't care reasons brought you here I can only say that I am grateful that you are here. I am sure that you have already heard of all the injustice and corruption that's overrun our city, most of these men here were once upstanding citizens, but now they struggle to survive and provide for not only themselves but their families. The royal family safeguards some mysterious thing at some secret place in the castle. I know because my great grandpapi saw them bring it in all secret-like in the middle of the night, that was when all of this trouble really started getting bad," he told her, with a bit of a spooked look.

"That's all rubbish, your great grandpapi was a drunk, he might've been just imagining things that night," one of the thieves reprimanded sounding like he'd heard this story many times before.

"Well do you have any other explanation for what happened and why things suddenly went from getting steadily worse to all downhill?" Tavien defended his grandfather, like he'd no doubt done countless times before.

Thinking over everything that'd been said Raven suddenly stood up, instantly drawing everyone's attention to her. "Thank you for your time, you have been a great help, I need to take my leave now. For the moment have the resistance lay low and thieves just keep doing what you’re doing, when you hear that I have left town wait a week then attack the castle once more, you should have a much easier time then," she ordered as she made her way to the door.

"Wait, do you mean to say that you actually believe me?" the leader asked incredulously.

"I believe that there might be some credibility to your great grandfather's tale, and that is all I need," she stated before opening the door and heading out into the light. Once outside she moved a few alleyways away before falling to her knees and puking up her guts in the gutter before crawling to the other side of the alley to lean against the wall. She would rest until nightfall or someone found her, the second of which she didn't want so she hid the best she could in what shadows were available.
