|{Personality}|
When new students transfer to Spence, regardless of what year they are, Jem is often the one chosen to give them the grand tour and help them find their group during the first week or two. It's quite clear to anyone who knows the young man that this isn't just part of his job as Class President- he's chosen for it because he is so good at getting along with people in the beginning. Perhaps something he learned from his step-dad, Jem is known for being the guy who wants to try and make everyone happy all the time, even when that is an impossible task. He makes a point to know the name of everyone in school, and while he may not be close friends with everyone he says hello to everyone he sees in the halls, from the queen bee to the trembling freshman. Jem has this deepset need for everyone to like him, and this leads him to constantly over-extend himself. He wants to be at every party, every volunteer event, every everything, even if that means having zero time left for himself. Jem has a really hard time saying no when people ask him for help, and to be honest this isn't because of some altruistic bone. It's because he's terrified of being disliked, and turning someone down might make them dislike him.

His need for everyone to like him leads him to have many acquaintances, but he only has a few close friends. It can be difficult to make time for the people who matter, after all, when you are constantly trying to please the ones that really don't. Jem acts the way he does because he's insecure. He was bullied a bit when he first moved to New York, and honestly growing up abandoned by a father who chose drugs over his kid didn't help his self-esteem much either. He is terrified of being shunned by everyone or looked down on, so much of his energy is dedicated to trying to make sure this never happens. Once you get him to chill out a little bit, however, you'll see someone with a load off of their shoulders. Around his closest friends, Jem is a joker who loves only the corniest of jokes. He seems to be constantly laughing or smiling, and is a really genuinely fun and cheerful person when he isn't letting his insecurity get the better of him.

Unfortunately, his insecurity also leads him to worry too much about appearances. He is on his guard a lot when around school, trying his damnedest not to slip and let everything he's worked for tumble down. Jem has high expectations for himself and if he doesn't meet them, he suffers from some fairly bad anxiety that he refuses to confide in anyone about, even his closest friends and family. He doesn't want people to think he's weird or hysterical, and definitely doesn't want his step-dad to think he's some kind of liability. He's a smart kid, and at heart a good kid. He just makes mistakes when he misunderstands what other people want from him. He will do the stupidest things to avoid being seen as weird or lame, because he's afraid of being alone.

Image Jeremy Atticus Walker, as he was once known, was not born on purpose, or into a particularly loving home, but once he was born it seemed that he would be the thing that kept his mother, Michelle, trapped to Atticus Walker, a man not half as gentle as the one he was named for. Atticus had been a drinker when he and Michelle first met, but only a social drinker. Soon after they married, he lost his job and the nastier side of him began to shine through. Michelle struggled working as a waitress, and was planning on leaving him when she became pregnant with Jem. She stayed with Atticus for three more years because she thought Jem needed a father figure. Atticus fell into drug abuse, and while he never laid a hand on Michelle or Jem the fear seemed to constantly hang over Michelle's head. Atticus was the one who left, leading Michelle to move back in with the parents who, now that Atticus was gone, welcomed her back.

Once Jem and his mom moved in with his mom's parents, things got better. Michelle attended a culinary school, as she had always been a phenomenal cook and dreamed of one day opening her own restaurant. Jem attended school and lived fairly happily, although occasionally kids would whisper cruel things that they'd heard from their parents. Every few months, however, his dad would show up at his school and Jem would have to watch his father get dragged off by security, a terrible sight for a young kid to see. On one occasion, when Jem was seven years old, Atticus tried to kidnap him from school. Jem was mad at his mom for taking away some toy or another the night before, and was more easily lured away than he should have been. Atticus brought him back to a filthy apartment that gave way to the fact that his drug habits had not changed one bit. Jem fell asleep on Atticus's bed while Atticus took the couch. The next morning, Jem woke up to the smell of something vile. He found his dad dead on the couch- he had overdosed in the night. Jem ran to get help, but it was far too late. After that, his mother kept a very close eye on him, worried that he might have been traumatized by what he had seen.

In fact, he suppressed most of the memory of it. He remembers going out to ice cream with his dad, but thinks that afterwards he went home, and that it wasn't until days later that he got the call that his dad had died. His mom was all too willing to encourage his false memory. Meanwhile, his mom had been working as a chef at a very popular restaurant in Birmingham. That is where she met Anderson Quill, Jem's step-dad. He had asked to meet the chef, and upon seeing a beautiful young woman immediately asked her on a date. Even once Anderson had to return to New York, he came down to see her regularly. Their courtship went on for two years before Anderson proposed. At 12 years old, Jem was moved from Alabama to New York Cty. Anderson was a politician, a member of the New York State Senate, as well as the second son of a very old and wealth family. It was a new life that Jem had trouble adjusting to, truth be told. He was teased at his school for his slow, southern accent and nervous disposition. After spending middle school like that, Jem begged to be sent to a different school for high school. And once at Spence, he reinvented himself. Jem studied magazines to find out how to dress nicely, but not like he tried too hard, got a better haircut, and trained himself to hide the thick southern drawl. And it clearly worked, given his current position as Class President. These days, his mom owns a very nice restaurant in Manhattan (his step-dad helped fund the opening of it, but it's been successful in its own right since), and he spends at least one or two weekends a month at publicity events with Anderson and his mom. Anderson is nice, and his mother seems happy, so Jem is satisfied with where he's at. Except when he has those little anxiety attacks that he hasn't told anyone about, or panics that everyone will think he's a fraud and shun him.

Gossip Girl here, giving you all the details on the rather scandalous elites that attend Spence High. School has started back for these elites last week and it is the first weekend of the school year so I know there is bound to be some drama going down. Especially since the reigning King Bee, Denzel, posted on social media that he was having a yacht party to celebrate their survival from the first week of school. Just about anyone and everyone were invited to attend. The question is though, will you be attending? I know I will be. While there is a party going down in the matter of an hour or so, another scandal amongst these elites is after a sudden disappearance is the sudden reappearance of the flower girl known as Iris. Where has she been? No one truly knows but whenever someone finds out... I'll be here waiting. You know you love me.

Denzel could not help but let out a light scoff from his lips as he placed his phone back into his pocket, reviewing over himself in the floor stand mirror in his room. He had posted on social media, Snapchat and Instagram specifically, about his yacht party and it was basically an "here's to surviving week one of hell" type of thing. Denzel heard a knock on his door as his mother entered and smiled towards him. "Oh, no. You're not going to give me the responsibility speech, are you?" Denzel inquired as his mother chuckled as she stepped closer to him and adjusted his collar slightly. "No. I know you'll be responsible. Just make sure everyone else is responsible on your father's..." Denzel interrupted her by calling him the much more proper term. "Stepfather." His mother sighed as she raised a hand up to him. "Whoever. Just make sure people do not damage his yacht, okay?" His mother continued as he nodded his head and she exited his room so that he could finish getting ready.

A thought crossed his mind though. 'Iris is back?' He pulled his phone out of his pocket and read the latest Gossip Girl blog one more time. It seemed like it was official but he just had to find out things for himself.

To: Iris
Are you really back? Did not tell me anything? You must come to my yacht party tonight. Remember where the docks are?

Denzel sent the message then exited his own room as she walked down the stairs, which led into the kitchen as his mother looked at him. "Taking the limo. See you later." He mentioned towards her as he pressed the button for the elevator and stood there, waiting. Denzel was excited for the night, honestly. This was his first official party as King Bee so he hoped that he'd do a good job at hosting it. The elevator dinged and the doors rolled opened before him as he stepped right on the inside. Honestly, he was nervous about tonight as he rocked on the balls of his feet until the elevator stopped and the doors opened up before him again. Stepping out, he reached his hand into his pocket and pulled out his cell phone to send her royal highness, Sienna, a text message along with Jeremy.

To: Sienna
Can you at least try, I do mean try, to be nice tonight?

To: Jem
You coming to party, right?

Denzel sent the texts and was really eager to see their replies. Denzel really wondered if Jem was coming to the party or not and if Sienna was going arrive with Cam, whom he needed for some banter right about now. He knew that it was sort of a mistake to do but he did it anyway. Once he exited through the revolving door, his family's driver, Thompson was already out there and waiting for him. "To the docks, Thompson." Denzel said as he got into the limo then pulled up Instagram again to record a video.

"Yo, yo, yo, peeps. This ya' boy, King Denny and I am heading to the docks to board the yacht. Will you be there waiting for me or will I be waiting on you? Let's see shall we?" He posted the video on the app and received multiple likes within an instant. Luckily for him, the docks were not too far from where he lived in the city so he arrived there within fifteen or so minutes. Some people were already there as he greeted them then stepped foot onto the yacht.

His eyes examined the food and drinks and even greeted the bartender, just to make sure everything was in order as more people started to arrive at the docks. Denzel pulled his phone out of his pocket to see if either Iris or Sienna responded to his message yet. He grabbed himself a glass of the champagne that was near then walked over to the side of the yacht and chugged the glass down. It was no doubt that he was nervous, which was a feeling he tried not to show but it was there and hope no one notices.

He checked to see what the time it was, which it was approaching about seven o'clock and the yacht was going to dock in a few minutes. Denzel removed himself from the railing that he was leaning on for the moment to take out his cell phone, wondering to himself if he should text Christian or not. Just a simple would be alright, wouldn't? Denzel sighed as he started to type those three little letters towards Christian anyway.

To: Chris
Hey.

Denzel's phone chimed inside of his pocket as he waited a little while before checking it. He was currently attending to some guests that had come early and offered them refreshments along with drinks while they waited for everyone else to arrive. He dismissed himself from the group before he then took his phone out of his pocket and seen that Christian sent him a text. Just as he was about to respond to the message, Christian was standing right in front of him with his arm wrapped around Moonflower.

"Is this guy bothering you?" Denzel asked towards Moonflower, his eyes gazed upon her before they shifted towards Christian with a chuckle. "Yeah but Queenie has arrived yet and you know how that is. Jeremy probably won't come because he hasn't texted me back yet and we all know Sienna's little sidekick, Cam, is more than likely coming with her." He commented with a shrug of his shoulders. He glanced down at his cell phone and seen that Sienna had shot him a text back. Denzel sighed heavily at her response and did not bother to text her back because he did not want to provoke her or anything.

He placed his phone into his pocket then eyed Christian for the moment. "I think I do need to be a little tipsy right about now." Denzel said as he motioned with his fingers for Christian along with Moonflower to follow him to the table where the drinks were and the bartender. "Tequila shots?" He questioned towards both Moonflower and Christian right about now as the bartender went ahead and sat three shot glasses before them while twirling the tequila bottle in his hand.

"Oh, dude, Ricky's coming and he's not coming alone either." Denzel went ahead nodded for the bartender to pour him a shot but still waited for Moonflower's and Christian's response. He downed his shot then slammed his shot glass down on the countertop then looked at Christian. "He better not wreck this yacht or I am throwing him overboard." Denzel joked while leaning against the countertop now.

"Well, we can at least say I set Denzel straight," Sienna remarked flippantly; she had already exited out of her conversation with Denzel and moved along to checking her Instagram feed, still chuckling to see herself. Did he expect any other response? "Doesn't have a smart ass request now, so he's left me on read. Whatever shall I do?" She inquired in mock hurt, her smirk making it quite clear that she found the issue amusing. By the time Sienna saw Denzel, she would more than likely be on the cusp of quietly teasing, the only true source of her amusement and jesting in her eyes when in front of classmates and whomever else they happened to invite to the party. As much as everyone knew that these events were actually for Spence students, it wasn't a surprise to see Dalton, Constance, St. Jude's, and even a few college kids who hadn't yet transitioned into college-only-parties-for-them. Sienna didn't know if she could be the latter when she got there, but it never failed to be a source of entertainment to see a few Spence girls attempt to be jailbait for college boys who didn't know any better.

Being the intelligent young socialite that she was, what Sienna should have done was secure the presence of a few of her followers and circle, checking to see who was coming and what excuses she was going to allow them to fling her way. She might have even deigned to continue her earlier conversation with Ricky or post more selfies with Cam. What she should not have done was pull up her last conversation with Jeremy, the very swipe of her thumb on the smooth protected screen giving her pause. It had been a fun summer, more relaxed and laid-back than perhaps her past summers had ever indicated on social media. And probably one of her favorites, an admittance she would only own up to in the privacy of her inner thoughts. But their...whatever it had been, no matter what prickling yet warming feelings her classmate had induced in her might try to make her think, it had been the summer. Things like that did not carry well into the school year. And yet, her fingers moved despite her thoughts and she was pressing send to her inquiry without a second thought, only after seeing it delivered thinking that she had a role to play, and his friend wasn't it.

Truth be told, Jem originally had doubts about attending Denzel's yacht party. The doubts were ultimately futile, because the young man had serious FOMO about pretty much anything that involves people he found to be cool or interesting or even just a little bit influential. Still, Denzel was the stepson of his stepdad's biggest political rival, and if there was one thing that Jem tended to be over cautious about, it was pissing off his step-dad. Not that the guy would ever really do anything bad, this caution doesn't come from a fear of punishment or anything like that. Jem simply was afraid of disappointing anyone, but most especially of disappointing Anderson Quill, wealthy New York Socialite and Politician, and the man who plucked Jem and his mom out of Birmingham and dropped them in the glamorous world of the Upper East Side.

His mind mostly made up, the young man had stopped with brief hesitation to sit at a diner not far from the docks where Denzel and the early birds of the party no doubt were. Jem was eating a grilled cheese at a speed which would cause a lesser man to choke, but that hadn't seemed to phase him in the slightest. Jem was always a fast eater and a big eater, ever since childhood. He glanced down at his phone when the text from Denzel pops up on his screen, but elected to wait until he had finished eating and could wipe the grease off of his fingers before responding to it. Just receiving the text is enough to cement that he would be at the party, although he would certainly avoid cameras and the like just in case some wealthy kid's instagram picture made it to some trashy tabloid or blog and found its way back to his stepdad.

This same patience was thrown out the window as soon as a different, more feminine name pinged onto his screen. Sienna Arnault. Jem nearly choked on his cheese burger with a hard swallow washed down by mere drops of what water he had left, and without concern for getting his phone screen dirty immediately picked up the phone to read the text and quickly respond.

To: Sienna
I'm actually on my way right now! I'll see u there :)

As soon as the text was sent, Jem regretted adding a smiley face and an exclamation point. Sienna probably thinks I'm a huge dork now. What guys use smiley faces? I should have just run into her and pretended I don't check my phone. What? Jump to answer at the sight of your name? Why would I do that? Jesus, despite concerns about seeming overeager or lame, Jem has already dropped cash on the table and high-tailed it out of the diner with a napkin in hand wiping off crumbs. In his speed it turned out that Jem was closer to the docks than expected, and he arrived in little to no time at all. As soon as he saw Denzel, the memory of Denzel's text flashes across his mind and he grimaces at his forgetfulness.

"Hey! Sorry I didn't respond to your text, I was eating. Figured I'd better fill up on food before drinking, eh?" Jeremy approached the collected group with a smile, still brushing his hands off against his jeans despite them by now being clean.

"What's up? Your counterpart not here yet? Figured you guys were hosting as a duo or something," Jem says, trying to be as casual about it as he can. "Oh! Hey, you're the new girl, right?"
