Introduction

A grace, is a unique, and sometimes strange, skill that one has. Graceling, people with Graces, can be identified with their mis-matched eyes that can be of any color. Graces can take time to appear, normally a few months after childbirth, but it has been known to do so much later in life, in the early stages of childhood. Graces can range from survival to mind-reading, to dream-giving, to singing, and to fighting. The graced are taken by the ruler of their country and are deemed useful or not to the crown. Should they be useful, the graced looses all rights and must act as a slave to the ruler. Should the grace be deemed not useful, the graced are returned to their family where they live with the neighbors hatred towards them. Only Liened allows graced to be free and live however they so please regardless of how useful their grace is.

This role-play takes place a few years after the death of Katsa and her beloved Po. Queen Bitterblue is still in power along with her husband Sapphire. However, her actions are currently focused on interactions with the eastern lands that no other kingdom is aware of yet. Estill is more peaceful thanks to Katsa's actions, Monsea is prospering under Queen Bitterblue but preoccupied, Liened is peaceful yet going through a rough time in the harsh season, Middlums is flourishing as King Raffin brings the land back from the cruelties of his father, and Wester and Nander are at war again bringing their already poor countries to the worst state they've ever been in.

Our characters know of the characters in the series but may not be related to them or have the exact same grace.

Nander is located to the North of the seven kingdoms. It is a humid and very hot place where the typical style is cotton and light weight clothing. Drownen City's palace is located right on the river to provide the king with all the amenities the water could offer including lower rooms that act as bath houses heated and cooled. The markets flourish during the day though the city is so poor, money is a rarity. The market day is more so a day or trade than a day of shopping. Individuals wear light weight clothing that ranges from rags to exquisite silks. Only the upper class can afford the silks leaving everyone from middle to lower class to wear plain cotton or rags of cotton that have been discarded.

Soldiers are everywhere as the king of Nander is paranoid and looking to weed out any spies Wester might have sent to his country. The palace is not open to anyone except the nobles and upper class who are at each others throats in fear that one another is a spy. Crime is high and the soldiers do little to control it, encouraging it in fact as they are bribed and paid off to look the other way. Murder is not uncommon and often dealt with by a fine or nothing at all. Any individuals who do not pay the taxes are arrested and brought to the king to either work as his slave, sent to be a soldier on the front lines of the war, or executed.

The Nander king takes in the graced mercilessly, keeping those that are useful and executing those that aren't. The king taxes his people mercilessly as he attempts to win the war for his own sake, not the countrys. The houses in Nander are relatively nice, the merchant families able to afford a house of mediocre size that keeps them cool at night and provides a roof. All those who are not wealthy er executed.

Though the Nanderan king is hated by his people, the prince is loved for his kind and strong heart. The world of Nander changes when a graced girl is found in the market one day. She is nearly killed for not already being in the king's service because of her age yet the prince prevents it from happening. He finds that she is a girl who is nothing but trouble yet he can't seem to stay away as he finds himself developing feelings for her. He must make a decision, follow his feeling or keep his father from accusing him of treason.

Name || 19 || The Prince of Nander || Country of Origin: Nander || Dexterity || FC: Max Schneider || Reserved by CutUp
Nothing like his father, the prince of Nander loves his people. He often spends his time in the town trying to help others as much as he can while keeping his father from knowing. The prince of Nander's father disproves greatly of his son, suspicious that he might be trying to take the throne though the prince has no wish for that at the moment. The prince is greatly loved by the people and he strives to do his best for them though he doesn't necessarily believe he is doing enough. He is greatly against war but holds no sway to his father. Upon the arrival of the liened girl he can't help but wonder if all that he's ever known is worth leaving behind for the possibility of a greater future for not only himself, but his kingdom. If he succeeds, the people will live better and the war will end. If he fails, he will be executed for treason.

Image
Name || 18 || Liened Graced Rebel || Country of Origin: Liened || Aim || FC: Katherine McNamara || Taken by Zoey26123
Originally from Liened, the graced rebel was sent by her king to attempt to help the rebels of Nander as they try to dethrone the current king to place the prince on the throne in hopes of gaining better conditions. When first arriving, she was nearly killed, believed to have defied the king by not being in his service, but was saved by a boy around her age who managed to get her away. She finds herself developing feelings for him but struggles with herself as she tries to focus. She doesn't realize he is the prince, under the impression he is just some noble looking for the same thing she and the other rebels are looking for, to free the graced and bring the kingdom out of the poverty and suffering it is forced to endure under the king set on winning an impossible war.

Image
Name || Age (18-25) || Rebel Leader || Country of Origin: Nander || Weapon of Choice || FC: Jennifer Lawrence || Open
Originally born to a lesser noble, the future rebel leader was made an orphan upon the king believing her father had committed treason. Thrown into the streets, the girl lived a hard life until she was recruited by a group of rebels looking to overthrow the king. The young prince appeared promising as he cared for his people and the rebels' goals changed to put the prince on the thrown. The previous leader passed, the girl took over the lead and upon calling for aid from Liened, works to dethrone the current king while freeing the imprisoned gracelings.

Image
Name || Age (17-21) || Best Friend/Servant of Prince || Country of Origin: Nander || Weapon of Choice || FC: Luke Pasqualino || Open
The Prince's best friend since birth the two have been inseparable. The boy was immediately paired with the prince to act as his main servant and has done so happily and willingly throughout his entire life. The two get along very well and though the boy has a sharp tongue, gets away with it around his best friend. Nearly killed multiple times, the boy owes his life to the prince more times than either boy can count and would do anything or his best friend and prince. Is unsure of his feelings towards the graced slave but believes he might love her.

Image
Name || Age (16-21) || Graced Slave || Country of Origin: Nander || Grace (Must be Approved) || FC: Rosa Salazar || Open
Taken from her parents at a young age, the graced slave is treated well and as if she is a servant though she and the entire palace know she is a slave to the king and nothing more. She is friends with the prince and cares for him but not as much as she cares for his best friend, in fact, she believes she is in love with him and is unsure whether or not he is in love with her.

Image
Name || Age (16-21) || Graced Spy || Country of Origin: Liened || Acrobatics || FC: Thomas Brodie-Sangster || Taken by Zoey26123
Born and raised in Liened until he was five, the graced spy left with his brother who wanted to go on an adventure since the rest of their family had passed and he wanted to get away from Liened. The graced spy followed and the two travelled for a while before the graced spy's brother grew sick while the two were visiting Nander. At the time, the boy was ten. He was taken into the palace with his brother under the terms he would work for the king if the king would treat his brother for his sickness. The king claimed to have but his brother passed and the graced spy was forced to be taken and used as a slave of the king to do as he bid with the grace.

Activity || Please be active! This includes posting at least twice a week. If you are not willing to be dedicated, I do not want you to apply. This is a role-play that I want to last and enjoy! You have three days to get a post up unless you notify me otherwise.
Posts || Posts need to be at least three paragraphs, 450 words. It's really easy when you start doing thoughts, descriptions, how others look, what others might feel. Think!Literacy please!
Metagaming || No metagaming (controlling another person's character without their consent), god gaming (making a character super strong or unbeatable), or Mary Sues (Making a perfect character or a perfect tragic character).
OOC || Please keep up in the OOC. I will post important information there. Please do the relationship thread though it is not required. At least talk with others to find out your characters' relationships with others. Don't guess, it could be considered metagaming.
Books || This takes place in the world of the books but you may not be related to anyone in the books. You can know of them, have seen them, but never met them or talked to them. You don't necessarily have to have read the books, but please at least look over the plot summary of either Graceling or Bitterblue.
Reservations || Reservations last 24 hours until you enter a WIP which then reserves the role an extra 48 hours. PM me if you need more time. To make a reservation, you must fill out the reservation sheet below or I will ignore your reservation. I will take reservations through PM but you must use the reservation sheet still.
Contact || Contact me! I will talk to you and I would love to answer questions you might have. This is going to be fun but you must stay in contact if you have questions so we can keep things going!
Graces || Graces must be approved by me. They cannot be OP. They must have weaknesses or limits. They may not be anything like Lecks, Katsas, or Pos. Sapphire's is fine but the OP ones are not, they must be approved. I will only allow two, maybe three true OP ones.
Characters || Other characters not used by a person will act as NPCs that only I and other gamesters may control (if they are established and important). Someone in the market is fine for you to control but they must be realistic too.

Dani walked by herself. She had just arrived in Nander only a few hours ago. Her small company, her servant and friend Racien was with her along with her guard. He was a large fellow who didn't speak much but was kind and stern in his own ways. Racien was a boy a few years older than Dani who was originally from Monsea but had left when Leck had been king, sent away by his parents really.

Dani had feigned exhaustion and instead of sleeping as she had promised her companions she would do, she left through the window, making her way onto the streets of Drowden City, the capital of Nander. Guards were everywhere and Dani kept her head down. She saw no other graced and wondered briefly why until she realized that she was in a country that was known for it's cruelty towards Gracelings. Dani shivered before moving on. The sun was setting but there was still a few hours until darkness.

Dani's job in the city was simple. Find the resistance, tell them of her plans. She was going to then meet with the king in a few days, though he was under the impression she wouldn't be in town for a few more days to keep him from looking for her, and if he wasn't willing to help his people or free the graced, she was to go to the resistance and they would do what they must to keep the people from suffering any longer. The Liened king hadn't been for the plan, but nearly all his sons had been and so Dani was sent off since she was somewhat diplomatic but could get the job done if diplomacy didn't work, and it wasn't expected to work.

Dani briefly wondered whether or not the prince was like the stories told. Few had really met him in the towns is what she had heard, but that he was kind and nice and a suitable ruler, more so than his father ever had been. Dani wondered how good could have been born from such horribleness but hadn't voices her concerns. Dani's inn was on the outskirts of the capital but as she got further into the city, she saw many merchants still trying to sell their wares.

She had passed people on the streets, in fact, many were just sitting on the sides of the road, looking at those who passed with hunger or pleading. She didn't carry any money with her though and she felt bad as she passed a young child who was looking up at her with wide eyes. Dani stepped out of the way of a guard passing, following suit of those around her as they kept their heads down and bowed slightly to the guard except Dani didn't bow. The guard didn't see her though and moved on. She wasn't going to bow to him when he wasn't anyone of importance other than a guard. Perhaps if the people weren't fearful of him she might, but not when they were only bowing out of terror.

Dani moved on, stepping into an alley to get out of the flow of traffic. "You aren't from here, are you?" A voice asked her softly from behind. She looked back in time to see a boy, Liened from the gold in his ears, looking at her curiously. Dani nodded her head slightly, noticing his eyes. One was a light green and the other a soft yellow. He was graced. Any graceling in the city was either a worker for the king, or a fugitive to the king.

"And who might you be?" Dani asks softly with a raised brow. The boy smiled and shrugged, looking at Dani with a cockiness she didn't appreciate at the moment. "Possibly a friend, not likely an enemy," He admitted as he studied her openly. "The name is Jaron. Someone told me my friend Racien was in town and that he was with a Liened girl who wanted to see someone like me," the boy, Jaron, stated simply. Dani nodded. Racien was to send word to a friend in the resistance that they were looking for them, or more accurately, Dani was. "He also told me to be out here tonight since you were likely to come out here regardless of whether or not it was the plan," He admitted with a knowing smile. So Racien knew she wasn't in the inn. Oh well.

Dani nodded. She explained the situation and Jaron nodded before looking at her with a considering look. "Alright, it's done. I work in the palace and hear a lot and see a lot so I should be able to keep an eye on you when you formally arrive. Until then, perhaps it would be a good choice to go back to the inn before you're seen out here. Graced our age without proof of royal service to the Nander king can get arrested, killed, or worse," Jaron stated. Dani gave him a quizzical look when he said "or worse" but he didn't elaborate, instead giving a shrug.

Dani nodded again, turning. "Watch yourself Fiarello, Nander isn't a safe place for anyone, regardless of being graced or not," He said to Dani's back. Dani glanced back but he was gone, upon looking up, she saw him climbing the stone wall beside him before glancing down from his vantage on the roof of a building. He was on his way back to the palace from the looks of it, and was in a hurry, meaning it was possible people didn't know that he was gone.

Dani moved forward, going quickly. She needed to get back before her guard noticed she was gone since Racien probably hadn't told him, knowing the guard would want to join her. Dani walked with her head down, glancing up once when she nearly bumped into someone. She caught sight of a boy, possibly a year or two older than her, with slightly darker skin and dark curls. His eyes were brown and green and Dani found herself frozen. Who was he?

Dani didn't even realize a guard was walking nearby until he bumped into her because she didn't get out of the way. She stumbled slightly, her hand going to her hip though it looked like it was to keep herself from falling but it didn't do much as she tripped over the uneven stones and landed hard, her hood falling back. The guard looked at her with wide eyes that told her she was in trouble and should run. She looked to the boy again for whatever reason before turning to try and run yet her cloak was caught under the boot of the guard as he prevented her from going. Dani gasped before releasing the ties and leaving her cloak, taking off in the crowd.

"Stop her, she's a graced fugitive," She heard being shouted behind her. The narrow streets were crowded and people couldn't get out of her way fast enough though she tried to keep from knocking them over, yet the guard couldn't care less. Dani didn't see the blow coming until it was upon her and she was shoved to the ground roughly by a hand she didn't see coming. She looked up to see a guard, a very tall, very burly guard standing over her. She tried to move backwards away but her back eventually hit something and she glanced back to see a fountain that was bone dry.

"You're coming with us girl," The bigger guard stated gruffly and Dani gave an apologetic smile and shrug as if she would like to but couldn't. She looked around for another option but couldn't quite see one. The gold rings on her fingers scraped on the ground as she pushed herself further against the fountain to get away from the guard more. She couldn't bring out her knives unless he tried to grab her and he looked like he was about to do just that. She would give away her identity right away and the plans with the king would be ruined as he would know she and Liened had lied to him... "I'm actually busy and would rather not today," Dani stated persuasively but the man just smile more as moved forward.

Well, it was time for some fun. Leto began putting on the finishing touches of his commoner outfit before he was leaving the castle for the night. He took a bandage, and began wrapping it around his head to cover his left eye to prevent himself from being discovered as a Graceling. Not the best time, or place for a graced person in his country. He ajusted the rag several times with increased frustration. The rag was thin enough in certain places that could allow him to see out of his left eye just barely. But he was having trouble this evening.

He finally gave up on it, and got it as good as it was going to get. He then leaped out of his bedroom window, and onto the rooftop of an adjacent building to his. He ninjaed his way out of the castle grounds unoticed like he's done so many times before. Once he was out of the castle grounds he jumped down to the ground level in an alleyway. He then walked out of the alley, and merged with the crowds of people. As he walked through the marketplace he continued to adjust the rag on his head, still not satisfied with it.

He almost bumped into several people as he walked, but he was able to weave through them rather expertly. He caught a glance at a girl who he was sure saw his mismatched eyes. He stopped, and turned around to look at her. His heart began beating rapidly, his chest felt heavy, like something was sitting on his chest. What was happening? Was he scared that she saw his eyes? He then noticed her own eyes, she was graced just like he was. His mind was in a fog when the guard yelled at her, and tried to take her.

Before he could react she was off with a couple of guards chasing her. He kneeled down, and grabbed the robe that was ripped off from the girl. He stared at the direction they ran off in, and sighed slightly. He moved the rag above his eyes, resting it on his forehead, and stood up. He rushed forward, moving through the crowd like a breeze of wind. He leaped up on the vendors, and hopped from merchant to merchant. Once he was close to the guards he jumped from the shop, and tackled the guard.

Leto quickly jumped up from the ground by the time the guard could get one knee up. Leto rushed over, and stepped off the guard's knee to gain leverage, and swiftly kicked the guard in the head, knocking him out. Leto let out a huff of a breath, and looked over at the girl he rescued with a comforting smile. From behind he could hear several more guards yelling at people to clear the way. "Sorry, I'm gonna need to barrow this." He stated as he held up her cloak. He turned around, and held the cloak before him, and rolled it up.

The first guard that rushed at him had his sword drawn, and jabbed at Leto. Leto ducked to the side, and wrapped the cloak around the edge of the sword. He spun around, and tossed the sword out of the guard's grip. He then delievered a swift kick to the guard's torso that pushed him back into a couple other guards that were coming after them, slowing them down a bit. "Come on!" He ordered as he picked the girl up off the ground. He grabbed her hand, and ran forward into the fleeing crowd. "I hope you aren't afraid of heights."

He then released her hand, and started jumping on several merchant's carts, using them as a steps to leap upon a rooftop, it was a rather easy climb that he was certain that she could pull off. He ran across the rooftop, and leaped to the next roof, which was quite a ways away. He turned back to face the girl, and gave her a nod. "Come on." He stated with a warm smile. "I'll catch you." He kneeled down, and held out his hand to catch her. The guards were soon catching up as they climbed over the carts. "You have to trust me."

Dani was getting frustrated. If she didn’t pull a knife soon, she would be taken to the king and he would either see her early arrival as a sign that something was going on outside of the diplomacy, or he would outright kill her. There were other options but it was unlikely that she would walk out of the palace, alive or on her feet.

She briefly wondered about the fellow who she had seen trying to hide his eye with the cloth as the guard reached for her. She was ready to fight back. She could at least get to the inn at the edge of the city. The mission would have to be aborted, but at least they would get out alive. The Liened king would send some other girl or possibly a boy to do the job she almost ruined because she couldn’t help but stare at a boy.

She froze in her movements to prepare herself to push herself off the ground to hit at the guard when she saw a blur. She looked to where it came from and her mouth dropped. It was the boy. The graceling boy. He was running on the merchants’ shops. The guard saw her surprise and was turning to look where she was when the boy tackled him. Dani stared at him in awe. Why the hell was he helping her?

Out of the corner of her eye, Dani saw the first guard coming towards the two. She drew her knife at this, but kept it hidden in the sleeve of her tunic. She saw the boy kick the guard when he tried to get up and wanted to pause to stare at him again but moved instead. She managed to send the knife in the approaching guard, hilt first, hitting him directly where she wanted to. He fell to the ground, his eyes rolling into the back of his head. Dani grabbed her knife and turned to find the boy was using her cloak as a way to get a sword from another approaching guard.

Was the boy a part of the resistance? How on earth could he be such a fighter if he was anything but? Where had he trained with whatever his grace was so that he was at the level Dani was at with her own? The king wouldn’t have trained him and released him, so where was he from?

”Who are you?” She asks as she dodges a guard approaching from the other side’s first attack. She wasn’t fast enough though and his fist caught her cheek just barely. Dani went down, grabbing at her cheek for a moment before kicking at the man’s feet, then aiming for a less honorable part to aim for.

She felt hands on her and nearly fought them before she saw it was the boy. Right before he pulled her along, she grabbed her knife before running with him. He seemed to know his way as he guided Dani and Dani couldn’t help but feel really nervous that something was off. She pushed away the feeling though as he called back to her.

”Not really,” She responded as he began jumping up merchant’s carts. She followed, slightly slower, but still faster than average, she had no trouble placing her feet where she needed to since it did involve aim and direction. She followed him, thankful now that her cloak was gone as it would only have inhibited her progress. She wasn’t far behind him when she heard the guards finally catch up as they climbed the carts. She looked down, then back at the boy as he jumped.

It was a far jump, between two buildings that formed a narrow street that carts could even move through. Dani stared at him, realizing his grace must have something to do with his ability to do amazing feats with his body. She looked down the wall before back at the guards now climbing up to the roof on the other side of the structure. She looked back to the boy and he gave her a nod.

She was breathing hard in her nerves and from running but nodded as she glanced back once more before looking back at him. If he didn’t catch her, she’d fall, probably break something, then get caught and killed for running. His smile for whatever reason allowed her a wave of confidence, as if he really did believe she could do not only the jump, but succeed in her mission too. She breathed deeply before taking off running. She jumped and slammed into the wall. Her hands scrambled for purchase and found his hand. She jumped right where he was kneeling.

”Why are you helping me?” Dani asked of all the questions she could have asked at the time. Dani scrambled up with his help before rolling over on the roof. She glanced back at the guards who stared at them and shouted angrily. Dani smiled slightly. They’d have to go around and deal with the crowds and what looked to be a dead end the way they needed to go to get to Dani and the boy fastest.

”And thank you, by the way,” Dani stated simply as she stood and felt her cheek. It was bruising and she huffed softly. ”Who are you though?” She asked softly. She gave him an appreciative smile but she still didn’t know him.

When the girl jumped to the building Leto caught her arm. He struggled a bit to pull her up, but he managed to do it. He chuckled slightly as he looked back to see the guards so angry. It was a good day. He turned back to face the girl when she began asking him questions. "Well, why wouldn't I help you? It seemed like the right thing to do." He answered with a slight shrug. He looked around, and saw the guards getting down from the rooftop. "We better get going. We don't want to be here when they figure out a way to get up here."

He walked over to the edge of the building, looking for a path for them to use. "Me? My name's Lee." He stated as he turned to face the girl. Lee was the name he uses when out of the castle. "I'm afraid I'm not too terribly interesting. What about you?" He asked as he redirected the questions to her, and helped her off the ground. "You don't really seem to be from around here huh?" He pointed out. He looked at the bruise on her cheek, and frowned slightly. "I'll try to be faster the next time I play hero."

"I hope you have a place to lay low at. I don't really have one." He stated as he turned back to the edge of the building. Leto backed away from the edge of the building, and then leaped off of it. The next rooftop was rather close by, and a easy hop over. "Oh, you aren't a dangerous killer right? I'd feel kinda bad of if I just rescued some kind of mass murderer or something." He asked with a slight joking tone. "Not that I'm saying you're a killer, or look like one.....I'm going to stop talking now."

Dani didn't answer his questions he returned but she wasn't sure if she was supposed to regardless. She studied him. So far, from what she'd seen, people didn't just help people because it was the right thing to do in Nander. This boy was different. He was stronger than the people she had seen looking lost and helpless in the streets of the run down city. She followed him as he spoke, interested in him in the way a cat might be interested in another cat, potentially an enemy, hopefully a friend.

He seemed relaxed, like he'd lived like this for a while. She smiled back at the guards once more before following him to the edge of the building. He announced his name was Lee and Dani felt a memory tug at the back of her head. The name was somewhat familiar but she knew no Lee and there was nobody of significance by that name that she could think of at the moment. She nearly bumped into him because she was looking down over the edge of the building as he turned around. She looked up sharply, finding they were hands width apart.

"My name's Dani and it can't be too obvious can it?" Dani asked in response to Lee's question about her being from around there. If her not knowing of the world around her wasn't an indicator, the gold on her fingers and in her ears as well as the different accent hinted at it. She accepted his hand as he helped her down before they moved.

He looked at something on her face and Dani felt herself grow self conscious for a moment before realizing he was looking at the bruise. it wasn't the first. Would not certainly be the last. She was rather miffed that she couldn't do anything about it herself since she needed to stay under cover, but she would heal and he would forget her and she would go her own way and everything would be the same as it was before he did decide to play hero. "Honestly, I'm not as fragile as I look," Dani stated with a smile that said he was being ridiculous.

He spoke again and she couldn't help but feel he was accidentally forcing her to invite him to join her. She took a deep breath that wasn't audible or visible before seeming to shrug indifferently. [color#5c9bde]"You could always spend the night in the inn me and my companions are staying at. There's three of us so there's room for one more in one of the rooms,"[/color] Dani offered as she jumped after him without hesitation with the smaller gap.

She smiled at his words. He wasn't entirely wrong... She was a dangerous killer, but only when need be, yet she was certainly not a mass murderer, regardless of what the Liened king asked of her. She did have standards. He seemed slightly at a loss of words by the end of his talking and she couldn't help but smile. "Well, not really. I'm not fragile, but I'm not a total monstrous being. I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong colored eyes," Dani admitted as they finally reached the ground. She beckoned for him to join her, but she kept her head low as she walked.

"I'm merely visiting for a bit but made the mistake of bumping into a guard when I saw you trying to cover your eye. I forgot in Nander that it's different for the graced... What's it like here? Really?" Dani asked genuinely curious as she began walking backward nimbly, trusting the boy to warn her of any obstacles in her path.

"It's not too obvious, but obvious enough." Leto replied with a smile. "Well Dani, despite what happened, it's nice to meet you." He stated with his smile growing somewhat bigger. He watched as she followed behind him, impressed that she's been able to keep up with him like this. "What? No, it's ok. Really. I've got a place to stay, it just wouldn't be the best idea to bring in people I just met. My father's a little.....overprotective I guess you could say." He replied to her offer of him staying at the inn with her. He gave her a reassuring smile to show that he would be ok.

Once they got to ground level he continued to follow her back to her room at the inn, wanting to make sure she got back fine. He was a gentleman after all. When she asked him what it was like to live in Nander he gave her a curious look, feeling like it was an odd question. "Hmm, that's a odd question to answer. I haven't lived anywhere except for Nander, so I really wouldn't know what to compare it to." He stated as he pondered an answer to a question he thought impossible to answer.

"Well, I guess it's hard, tough really. So many people get hurt, so many in pain. But even more stand by and let it happen, not doing a thing about it. I think that's even worse." He stated as he began pulling the cloth over his eye. "Whether we're Graced, or not, we're still people. We still bleed, we still hurt, we still feel joy, and love. At the end of the day no one's really all that different when you think about it." He continued, clearly showing he felt strongly about this topic, despite what others of his country think.

"Ok so how about you? Where are you from? From you accent I would have to say...Liened right?" He asked in equal curiosity as her. "What's it like there?" He asked her. He took in a deep breath, and sighed. "I've always wanted to travel to other countries, to see the world outside of these borders. But my father would never allow me. I've got too many responsibilities here to be able to do something like that." He stated in a somewhat disappointed tone. He chuckled slightly when he realized he was telling a girl he had just met about his biggest dream.

"So why are you here anyways? In Nander I mean." He asked, not worrying if he was prying too much into her personal life. He felt comfortable around her for some reason. "It's not exactly a great vacation spot with the war, and all. Especially for those with Grace."

((I'm not going to do an intro for this post. I'm too tired. If I don't get a character up for your new RP by tomorrow, then I don't need you to hold the spot or anything... I'm a tired person... Pardon any errors in this post please.))

Dani smiled in response to Leo as they walked. He seemed like a good person. Someone she'd want to hang out with and be friends with and travel with if only he had been born into a different lifestyle. Dani shrugged, slightly embarrassed she had misunderstood, but knowing it didn't matter really. She realized what he meant and looked at him with an odd look. "I wouldn't expect you to take me to your house you know," She stated with a slight laugh as she studied his features again before looking away so he wouldn't think she was staring.

She wondered how the question was odd, but found that it only increased the expectation for his answer. She considered his first answer, slightly disappointed but using her diplomat face to not give the feeling away. She realized he was merely considering his answer before responding. She listened, finding her heart weighing heavily more and more. Not only were the graced giving no rights whatsoever, but the people were struggling to live at all as well, perhaps with a few more freedoms, but not many. It was so different than Liened...

Dani wondered what this boy knew about his own country. He probably didn't know of the resistance if he didn't think people did much of anything. He spoke of the graced and how they were people not just tools and Dani wondered briefly how he had never been caught yet on her first day in Nander she had nearly been killed for being graced. He was confident about his words too, as if he had thought them many times.

"You are right of course. If the accent didn't give it away, nearly everything else about me probably did," Dani stated with a smile as she walked. She considered her own response for a moment before taking a deep breath and beginning, "It's not necessarily grand, but... It's home, and everyone is free, regardless of whether you're graced or not. I've rarely seen someone go hungry there, but I haven't lived in the worst areas for years so I don't really know for certain if that's true or not..." Dani admitted before listening to his words again.

So he wanted to travel but had a father who wouldn't let him. She wondered what kind of father would rather force his son to stay in a place that was dangerous and deadly for him being graced and all but didn't voice her concerns for him. But responsibilities? Like what? Caring for siblings and the family? That could be reasonable. Dani shrugged it off since it probably meant little.

"Why am I here... Why are any of us hear Leo?" Dani asked with a smile before shrugging. She responded reasonably but not entirely, "I'm here to see if I can do anything to help. There's always a need for people to help, even when others won't admit it or there is danger, escpecially if there's danger. I want to try to help others have the same privileges and freedoms I have and other people around the world have. Monsea with Queen Bitterblue is now free, Liened is free, the Middlums is free under King Raffin, other countries are bad but not as bad as Nander, it's time Nander has it's own time to prosper," Dani stated softly so as to not be overheard by those around them since her words were treason in the country.

She pushed open the door to the inn she was staying at as she spoke, wondering, and hoping, the boy would join her. She held the door open for him, ignoring the glaring looks from her bodyguard that sat at a nearby table. "So Leo... Do you want to help me?" Dani asked softly, openly inviting him to join her in trying to help the country of Nander. She was only then aware of the fact that he could potentially be a spy and she just killed herself entirely, but pushed the idea away. No spy would have saved a graceling in Nander, it would result in their own death.

Leto followed behind Dani, listening closely to what she had to say. Especially about her home land. He shrugged off her description of it not being grand, from the way she spoke of it it seemed like paradise to him. He raised an eyebrow at her question. While he liked her words, her purpose for being here, he couldn't help but feel out of place. He was no warrior, no freedom fighter. He was beginning to think she had the wrong impression of him. From the way she talked, she was some kind of warrior, something that he could never be.

As she opened the door to the inn she was staying at Leto took in a deep, and uncomfortable gulp as he got the death glares from the men inside. "H-hi....I'm.....Lee." He greeted them with a awkward, and slightly terrified wave. He of course got no response from them. "Look, Dani, I....I uh appreciate what you're trying to so here for Nander. But you got the wrong idea about me." He stated as his usual smile started to fade away. "I'm not a warrior, or some freedom fighter. Sure I want things to be better for this country, and it's people, but I can't change that. I'm not a soldier, I'm just one man."

He then briefly looked back at the sky, and let out a sigh. "I need to get going before it's too late." He stated. "I do want to help, I really do, but I don't think there's much I can do. A problem like this, it has to be solved by someone smarter than me. I'm afraid I can't help you." He said as he turned away from her. "But....I did enjoy talking with you. Few people can keep up with me......and are as pleasant to be around as you. Maybe we could do it again sometime?" He asked as he briefly turned back to face her with a small smile on his face.

Dani smiled at Lee's discomfort, finding it amusing. She couldn't help but like him, and was disappointed he wasn't ready to fight yet. He was graced with a grace that was quite useful and yet he wasn't prepared to use it to fight against the suppression Nander was facing. It truly was horrible and Dani wondered if Lee was too nervous to do it or he just didn't see the depth which the pain and suffering held. She tilted her head, curious as he explained he wasn't a warrior and practically felt her heart sink. Perhaps she wouldn't get to see him again if he wasn't willing to be a part of the resistance.

She gave him a knowing look that said she didn't believe he wasn't a fighter but held a question within her glance. "I don't think you realize this isn't a job of intelligence, it's a job of love, hoping for a better future, of independence," Dani explained to him, her hands on her hips and her hip sticking out slightly as she explained to him why she did what she did without directly saying that. "It takes one person with a bow and arrow to suppress a crowd out of the fear that someone might get shot, it only takes one person to distract to free the rest though. I'm not asking you to die, just be willing to be a part of the crowd, Lee," Dani explained though her tone wasn't pleading so much as hoping he would agree. She sighed at his final decision but nodded at his question. "I'd like that," Dani agreed with a smile before waving goodbye and joining her companions who passed her a piece of bread as she joined them at the table.

Dani saw Lee again over the next few days. They explored Nander's capital and he showed her many things while she watched the people more than the magnificent architecture. She couldn't believe how terrible the conditions were for the people there. Even the homeless in Liened had some food either given to them or paid for with some coin earned after working for a day. The people here were starving and stared with gaunt eyes at Dani and Lee as they walked by. Some recognized Lee and held out their hands for something, possibly food or money, Dani reasoned.

Dani told Lee of her belief that the king shouldn't rule anymore and that his son at least cared for the people and would do much better due to his compassionate side. Dani told him more of herself, though not much more. She also told him about the differences between Liened and Nander when requested. Dani gave what little coins she had to the smallest children who begged her for money and tried to steal from her though failed due to her having learned all the tricks growing up.

Dani wasn't confronted by another guard since she did well in keeping her head down when they were in the slums and practically against her chest when in the upperclass areas. They passed the palace multiple times and Dani always marveled at the grandness, how it only housed the king and his slaves and servants, not any of the people who slept on the steps and the streets with nothing beneath them but dirtied stones.

On the night before the day she was to arrive at the palace, Dani thanked Lee for all that he did and wished him luck in the world, offering him one more chance to join the resistance. She told him how she was thankful she met him and that he had been kind and helpful. "If I don't see you again and you don't hear of me again, you should leave Nander. Go to Liened, or even Monsea or the Middlums. Queen Bitterblue is reasonable and King Raffin is very kind. It'll be better than staying here for certain," Dani explained to him. She took a step closer in the alley she had pulled him into and passed him a Liened coin, a gold one with the intricate designs Liened gold held.

Dani stood on her toes to give him a kiss on the cheek before smiling at him once more and waving, slightly embarrassed, before walking away, only glancing back once to give another small wave before entering the inn she would leave the next morning. She hadn't told Lee she was leaving the inn, nor had she told him where she was going. Perhaps he would think her act that night odd, but she couldn't risk not seeing him again and knowing he was still trapped in such a terrible place without any warning.

Dani stared at herself in the mirror. She wore simple traveling clothes that were worn, the ones from the day she arrived in fact, as they hadn't been washed on purpose. She was to go to the palace and there she would be provided her luggage and she would change for her audience with the king at midmorning.

Upon arriving at the palace, people did not rush to greet them, but rather, took their time and had no problems showing their contempt for Dani and her eyes. The nobles were to prepare her and it was clear none of them wanted to touch her. Dani allowed herself to be washed, though she wasn't happy about them doing it for her, and had her hair and make up styled using the powders and minerals of the country. Dani was outfitted in an elegant traditional dress that was made of silk and made Dani feel uncomfortable though she didn't show it.

Dani was led to the throne room where she was made to wait, standing with her back tall and her stomach a twist of fear. Her companions had been separated from her when they first arrived and she hadn't seen them in over an hour and it was beginning to make her nervous. The doors were opened and she was ushered inside, walking down the long path to the king where she bowed before him briefly before standing. The king's contempt was clear on his face for her but Dani met his eyes for she was present to represent Liened's royal family and she would not cower beneath the glower of another king for he did not scare her.

Dani was unaware that her companions were in the hallway to her left, being hidden behind a corner, both unconscious and injured though not fatally so. The negotiations were anything but negotiations, rather, an opportunity to acquire another slave or increase the death count of Liened citizens.

Over the course of the next few days Leto enjoyed his time with Dani. Though it did pain him to not be able to tell her who he truly was. He was fearful of what she'd say, what she'd think given her views on his father. And what she'd think of him for lying to her. He had thoughts about telling her, he felt a certain connection, a bond with her during their brief time together. Maybe she would understand? But no, he couldn't take that risk. She'd try even harder to get him to join the resistance, to dethrone his father. And he's not prepared for that.

As the day came to an end he noticed that Dani was acting rather odd that day. She acted as if she was never going to see him again. This had Leto slightly worried. As she said her goodbyes, and told him that he should leave Nander he smiled softly at her as he clinched the coin she gave him. "Hey, you worry too much. Things have a way of working themselves out. I'm sure....no, I know we'll see each other again. Count on it." He reassured her with the greatest of confidence.

As she leaned up to kiss his cheek a wave of embarrassment flowed over him, and his cheeks began to turn red. He waved, and smiled back at her as she entered the inn, and his face returned to it's normal shade. He looked down at the coin she gave him, and ran his thumb over it's designs with a smile on his face. He then let out a sigh, and headed out to return to the palace before he was noticed.

As the morning came he woke up as usually, he washed up, adamantly refusing the aid of any servant, and squeezed himself into his tight fitting noble attire, which he absolutely hated. He stared out of his bedroom window into the streets of the capital. He let out a sigh. The only thing on his mind was Dani. He wondered how she was doing, and what she had meant by the things she said last night. He looked upon the courtyard and could see the nobles parting themselves as a small group of people entered the palace. He watched them curiously. By the way the nobility had acted they must have been people of importance, but he was not aware of any such visit. Not that anyone would tell him anyways.

And then he caught a glimpse of her, at first it was her golden blonde hair, and then he was able to see her face briefly. It had to be Dani. But what was she doing here? Was she captured? Possible explanations rushed through his mind as he began to tense up. No matter the reason he knew she'd be in trouble. And he had to help her, even if it meant going against his father, he'll protect her. He has to. He put on his belt with his rapier attached, and his his dual daggers on himself.

He picked up the coin Dani had given him, and stared down at it. He ran his fingers on the grooves of the designs, and let out a sigh before he left his chambers. As he walked the halls he got the usual dirty looks, and glares from the guards, and nobles that he had become so accustomed to. It's rather difficult for a Graced in Nander, even if he is the prince. As he headed towards the throne room he came across several guards as they began shackling Dani's companions. He remained hidden, and out of their sight. There was nothing he could do for them at the moment.

He continued on to the throne. As he entered the throne room he could see the guards in the shadows preparing to capture Dani on their king's order. He let out a sigh before making himself known. "Father, I wasn't aware we were having foreign guests." Leto announced himself as he strode over by Dani. His posture, and body language was completely different from before. He stood his back straight, his arms behind his back, clearly showing noble birth. Even his voice sounded faintly different.

"This is Dani Fiarello. She is a diplomat from Liened." Silas stated with clear disinterest in her. "This is my...son. Prince Leto." Silas stated with a clear note of contempt towards his son. Leto gave her a respectful bow, and gently cupped her hand into his, and gave it a slight formal kiss. "Lady Fiarello, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I hope you, and you companions have a pleasant stay in Nander." He stated, not even showing the slightest hint of him knowing her. As he looked up at her his eyes lingered to their left, where unknown to her, her companions were.

He stood up, and faced his father, taking a few paces ahead of Dani. He kept his left arm behind his back as he held the coin she gave him in it's palm, moving it between his fingers. He did this around ten times, and then stopped abruptly. He was trying to tell her the number of guards he had noticed. "What are you doing here Leto?" Silas asked, clearly showing that Leto was not wanted here. "I merely saw her envoy, and was curious as to who it might be." Leto stated as he took a nervous gulp. "It is of no concern to you. Now leave us, you have no business here." Silas stated in a slight growl. Leto took a few steps forward. "But father-" Leto was then backhanded by Silas with enough force to send the same lad to the ground.

"I am you father, and your king, you will do as I say." He bellowed at him. "Y-yes father.....my lord." He said as he turned away from his father. He glanced up at Dani, and held his hand up slightly to tell her it's ok. He then averted his eyes as he wiped some blood off of his lip. He couldn't look at her from embarrassment. As he wiped the blood from his face he pointed his index finger to the left of her, trying once again to tell her where her friends were.

Dani felt a shiver run over her and she looked around. Finding that she was not comfortable at all anymore. Something was wrong. Something was very wrong and she was beginning to grow concerned. Where were her friends. She looked to the king with a smile that concealed her contempt for him.

She was about to speak again when someone emerged from a hall on the side. Dani felt her stomach drop and couldn't hide the brief moment of shock that she felt at the sight of Leo. It took her a moment to hide her emotions and she knew it was dangerous that she messed up as so, but knew she couldn't do anything else about it, instead, attempting to pass it off as her surprise at the sight of the prince.

Dani couldn't believe Leo. He had not only hidden ehis title, but his name, his birth, even his voice. Dani clenched her fists but hid them in the large skirt that was no becoming more and more obvious as to the wardrobe selection. The large skirt was given to her merely because it would prevent her from moving faster.

"Prince Leto," Dani managed through grit teeth as she curtsied to him, ducking her head to avoid showing her anger to the room. She was livid. He had not only lied to her, but tricked her. Dani didn't want to offer her hand but knew if she didn't, it would appear rude.

He touched her and she managed to keep from flinching or pulling back. When she felt his lips on her hand, Dani did look up at him and her eyes told all she felt. The betrayal, the fear, the anger that he had faked. She had told him her name, where she was from, far more than she wanted the song of the Nanderan king to know.

Dani didn't say anything to Leto as he spoke to her, fearful she might say something inappropriate. She noticed his eyes lingering to the left and Dani resisted the urge to look over. If she hadn't been concerned before, she was terrified then. Where were her friends? Did Leto know? Was he one to know what was going to happen from the start?

Leto moved away and Dani noticed the coin in his hand. She felt her chest lighten, perhaps he didn't set her up, perhaps he was as innocent in this entire endeavor as she was. She watched his movement, silently counting. Ten. Ten something. Ten minutes? Seconds? People? Prisoners? It could mean a number of things. Dani briefly counted things around her, wondering if the seemingly nervous habit meant something to her.

Ten guards in sight around her. Dani took a step back, moving slowly so as to not draw attention to herself as Leto spoke with his father. She heard something behind her and ceased movement, figuring a guard was worried Dani was up to something.

The place was silent as the prince and his father spoke. Dani watched as the king lost his temper and realized not only were all the stories true, they gave the king too much kindness. He was willing to hurt his own son in his temper. Dani took a step forward but stopped herself, her hands in fists. If she moved to Leo, it would be clear she had some connection with him. Seeing him on the ground though made Dani even angrier than she was before.

She couldn't tear her eyes away from him as the king yelled, not even flinching at the raised voice like many in the room did. Leto held his hand up and Dani let out the breath she had held in concern for him. He pointed again as he wiped away blood and Dani knew then that either many guards were down the corridor, or that was where her friends were.

Dani looked to the king again as she managed to reign in her thoughts and emotions. "Your majesty..." Dani lost where she was going to go with her words momentarily. "I am here to discuss the need for Graced in your kingdom to be treated better as well as to cease suppressing your people. I see now that our negotiations perhaps were not meant to be beneficial to your people and the Graced. Give me my companions. We are leaving," Dani stated with one more curtsy to the king before turning and beginning to walk out.

It was daring and stupid but she had no chance doing anything else. Dani spotted the graced boy she had met in market that first day hiding in the shadows. He had a finger to his mouth but it was clear he was a servant and couldn't do anything to help her at the moment. Dani flitted her gaze instead to the guards moving to apprehend her. She wasn't even a quarter across the throne room's floor as she moved towards the alcove that held her friends.

Guards stepped in front of the entrance and Dani turned, anger obvious in her slight frame as she looked at the king, her head raised. "Your highness, you may treat some of your people this way, but I would advise you to remember, I am not your citizen. You are not my king. Allow me to leave with my companions now and perhaps Liened will not have any major ill issues with Nander," Dani spoke with confidence but could not prevent her unhappiness from showing in her tone.

Silas only half listened to the young Graceling's small speech about how she's not a citizen. He was more focused on the reaction she had towards Leto. He could almost feel the tension between the two. It was far more interesting to him than anything this girl could have to say. Silas then stood up from his throne, and glared at Dani. "This is MY kingdom! I will not be ordered about by anyone little girl! Least of all your pathetic excuse of a king!" He snarled as he motioned for his guards to grab her. Leto then got apparently nervous, and leaped up, and stood between his father, and Dani.

"Move. NOW." Silas ordered Leto. Leto stared up at his father, not backing down this time. "No, this isn't right. Let her, and her friends leave. Please father....my lord." Leto pleaded with him. Silas' hand clinched tightly into a fist as he glared at his son. "I said move." He barked at him once more. Leto looked back for a moment at Dani before returning to his father with renewed determination. "No, I can't allow you to do this. This could destroy Nander, and our way of life. Can't you see that?"

Leto then looked around at the guards. "Can't you all see that? This is madness! If we harm her, or her companions it could lead to war with Liend. We are just barely able to keep our head above the bloody water from our war with Wester." He stated, his voice then began to uncharacteristically raise. "We bring in bodies by the cartloads! We have more bodies than we do graves! Your friends, your brothers, and sisters are the ones that lie in those graves to protect this country, would you let their sacrifice be in vain and start another war?"

The guards then began to look at one another unsure of what to do as they hesitated to grab her. "Please, bloodshed is never the answer, and this could drown our country in it. How is that going to help anyone?" Leto pleaded with them one last time. And it appeared to be working. Well, for a brief moment at least. Silas then reached out, and grabbed Leto by his throat to prevent him from saying anything else. Silas then tossed him on the ground causing him to slide across the floor. Silas then glared at the guards. "Grab. Her."

Out of the fear the guards did as they were ordered. Leto hopped up, and his hand instinctively reached for his sword. Silas let out an amused chuckle. He then drew his blade. "You want to challenge my rule? Then challenge it boy! If you want to usurp my throne so bad come and take it!" Silas roared as he held Leto's chin up by the tip of his blade. Leto briefly looked around, and stared up at Dani with a hurt puppy dog look. He then looked away from his father, and backed down. "I...I'm sorry." He said in a defeated tone, aimed more towards Dani than anyone.

Dani knew it was stupid to talk to the king as she did, but she wasn't entirely sure she cared enough to attempt to earn his graces again. He stood and Dani stared right back at him without fear. Perhaps a bit, but not of the king so much as of his guards. Without knives, Dani knew as well as he did that she was defenseless other than her fists, and she was a lot smaller than the guards around her.

Leo moved between Dani and the king and she felt a small urge of annoyance but knew that he was only trying to help. Perhaps he didn't realize she wasn't as fragile as she appeared, and often let others believe. Dani slowly moved to the corridor Leto had pointed out previously, her movements slow enough that they wouldn't draw attention as Leto spoke to his father. It wasn't as if the king couldn't sick his guards on Dani still, perhaps he was planning to strike her as he did Leo, though Dani doubted the king had enough of a spine to do something such as that.

Dani nodded at Leo's words. The Nanderan bloodshed was horrendous. She had even heard children, not much older than twelve, had been picked off the streets, given a sword, and told to go fight. Dani, so focused on going to her friends, barely registered that Silas lashed out at his own son.

As the king made the final order to grab her, Dani took off running for the corridor. One guard charged at her and she managed to evade him though not the arrow that skimmed her calf. Dani let out a muffled cry as she fell to the floor, her leg bleeding. Thankfully the arrow had only barely hit the outside. She had forgotten to search for archers, bound to be present since the king knew she was graced. Kings rarely took chances around the graced.

Dani felt rough hands grab her and saw red just around the corner, most likely that of her companions. Dani felt tears stain her face as she saw Racien's hand with the single ring that he wore for his father on his left hand. It was unmoving and Dani wasn't sure if he was alive or not. She looked for that servant, the graced one from the town, but he was nowhere to be seen. Dani bit back another moan of pain as the guards dragged her, her injured leg leaving a trail of blood out from underneath her skirts. They stopped before the King and Dani met his eyes still, her anger and hatred undisguised now that all pleasantries had been discarded.

Leo looked at her and she just looked at him sadly, realizing how much he had just destroyed trying to help her yet neither of them had succeeded. Dani wasn't sure if Leto was the one who should take the throne briefly, sure he would be a better king than his father, but would kindness and compassion be enough when he wasn't necessarily self confident or uncertain of himself in general?

Dani nodded at him but looked to the king a moment later. "If you harm them, you'll regret it," She stated, not even caring there was a slight quiver in her voice from her fear of her friends' condition. She couldn't even stand properly with the blood slick beneath her and the skirts becoming sodden with it. "It's coming to an end Silas," She stated simply, figuring he was smart enough to understand what she meant.

The guards began pulling her along, forcing her to try to stumble along and attempt to keep up or have her injured leg dragging on the ground mercilessly. She limped along as fast as she could, not even caring how undignified the king would believe her to be.

Re: Graceling || The Prince of Nander

Ah, that's too bad. I think I'll have to pass, I've been a bit busy lately and I think it wouldn't be too wise of me to add more to my schedule. Good luck and awesome roleplay, though!

Re: Graceling || The Prince of Nander

Sorry, but the prince has been reserved in Pm! All other roles listed are open though! You can also submit one you come up with! You could do a second in command for the Rebels or the captain of the guards (though he'd be kinda evil). Let me know if you'd like another role!

Name || Age: 19 [maybe?] || The Prince of Nander || Country of Origin: Nander || Grace (Perfect Memory of all that is Seen) || FC: Max Schneider || BurningDark

(The Prince of Nander is the character I'd like to reserve. His Grace is perfect memory of all that is seen. If his eyes have gazed upon it, even for a split second, it becomes lodged in his memory. This doesn't work with his other senses, and his sense of taste is actually quite dulled. If he were to become blind [like Po heheh] he'd pretty much be screwed. However, since he memorized all seen, he could find his way around the castle with memories of where all the corridors are.)

If you have any questions feel free to ask them here! In order to make a reservation you must read the rules to find out what is required for me to look at your reservation! Thank you!

If you would like, you may also add a hex code but it is not required.
I may or may not change the FC of characters but you have to give me another and expect me to be critical. I really like the FCs I've chosen so please do not try to change them if you have no reason but you like someone else's face better. You have to tell me why.
