Inevitable destruction of something in our lives which we consider foundational. Reminiscent of the tower of babel, which was built upon far-reaching human ambition, creating an artificial comfort in our lives. But there is always an upside - when the tower levels, not only do we uncover our own hidden resilience, but we can also rebuild anew, with greater inner insight.

Yet for all his bluster, it's all a false confidence built on his need to seek validation from others. Nothing else could explain the careful mask he built to protect his ego. If all he'd wanted was success, then he wouldn't need to hide his true motivations. His smile is designed to charm, and his words are chosen to inspire. As long as one doesn't look too close, he'd be the perfect model for major arcana holders everywhere. It's unfortunate that his good deeds are borne of a much more self-centered reason, even if others find benefit in it.
It's difficult to deny he has many faults, but really, who doesn't? For the few who've dug deep enough to crack open his cover, the realization that he's the opposite of who he portrays makes his duplicity feel like betrayal. In truth, they'd simply been idolizing his original feint, and Leo attempted to meet those inflated expectations. So he lets his resentment fester, hating those who raise the bar, but unable to do anything but meet it. He's tired of the charade, but he's invested far too much of himself into it that he's afraid of the change, and the rejection that would surely come alongside it.

Physical deceit, which is the manipulation of the physical senses such as sight and hearing, is the easiest form of his magic. He can make one see what isn't there, or make them think they hear a particular person's voice. This is highly dependent on what he's trying to emulate; to imitate someone's voice would require he'd heard it himself before. Most students and faculty of Aurelius think this is the extent of his abilities. A very small handful of people know it can extend to something as extreme as overriding one's personal beliefs and emotions. For example, he can make someone believe they're in love with him; this, however, is quite taxing on him. When it's a belief as strong as this he can only really handle one on a constant basis, as it requires constant suggestion and refreshment on his part.
There are two ways of using his power: eye contact or his personal rune. The former is faster, as it only requires five seconds of directly looking into their eyes. The effect lasts for about two hours until it needs to be refreshed. Unfortunately, he can only channel a limited amount of mana through this method, thereby limiting the effects of his powers into strictly physical deceit and faint suggestions.
His personal rune is required for stronger beliefs, as here he can channel much more of his power. It needs to be on the person he wants to manipulate, which makes it rather tricky to do on a regular basis. The tradeoff is that as long as the person is within a meter of the rune, they will continue to be under his influence. Fortunately, it can be on anything: written on paper or engraved on a pendant. If he anyone ever got tattooed with his personal rune, he imagines it would work the same.

It was first put the test when a mere diluted blood defeated him in mock combat in one of their exercises during his third year. Most spoke of it as a fluke, and he thought the same, talking to his father about it during their typical weekly chats in the medical ward. That was the first time his father scolded him, expecting better of a pure blooded Major Arcana. What struck him most is how he'd failed against someone his father considered inferior to him; he sought to rectify the mistake, and sure enough by the next combat practice, he dealt with his opponent with ease. That did nothing to ease the sting his father's lecture had left, but it did soothe his fragile ego. He pushed himself harder to ensure that there would never be a repeat again of the incident.
Leo's continued excellence and naturally accommodating nature made him popular around the school as an all-around reliable guy. This sense of trust people had in him validated his ego, and his father was happy with the name he'd built for himself. People said he would do great things once he was out of Aurelius, and slowly, he started to believe it himself, despite not having any real goal in mind. It became important to him to be remembered, to be acknowledged; otherwise, everything he'd been building towards would've all been for naught. He wasn't sure where the stairs he was climbing was leading, but all he knew was that something great awaited for him at the top, a testament to his effort. It didn't matter if he'd grown tired of the charade, or that he'd finally seen that people's compliments were simply attempts to approach him due to his status. If he stuck it all a little longer, he'd be rewarded.
